George Lucas FULLY Explains Jedi and Sith History
What a treat this is. I'm so thankful for Paul Duncan's book The Star Wars Archives 1999-2005. It has so many interviews and exclusive things with George Lucas that reveals things I never knew about. It's always a fun time reading from this book because you never know what you find in each new page. I feel it's necessary for us to understand what George Lucas thought of the Sith and Jedi Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Natalie Portman Explains What Padme REALLY Thought of Anakin
In Star Wars Archives 1999-2005 book we get a nice little piece from Natalie Portman about how she felt Padme felt about Anakin Skywalker. While I've done a video in the past about how Padme felt about Anakin in universe, it's fun to see what Natalie Portman actually thought too. We have to remember, George Lucas instilled all of Padme's thoughts into Natalie's head to be able to act out the character properly and to have the proper chemistry with Anakin/Hayden Christensen on set...Especially, in Revenge of the Sith. George Lucas Says Anakin Could Have Survived WITHOUT Vader's Suit...
In the making of The Return of the Jedi book, there is a dialogue chapter where George Lucas discusses Anakin Skywalker had he not used Vader's suit that Palpatine gave him in Revenge of the Sith. I would love to know more about this from George as he glossed over it. What would have happened had Anakin chosen the light side, and received plenty of force healing? What if Vader got the most up to date suit that the galaxy could make for him? How limited, or rising, would his powers become? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Why Didn't Darth Vader Clone Himself? - Star Wars Explained
In Star Wars, the Cloning process was mass produced for years, so were cloned limbs...so with all of Vader's pain and suffering to his body, why didn't he or Palpatine start a cloning process for himself to return as Anakin Skywalker or just simply repair his limbs, lungs, and organs to reach his full potential as a Sith Lord or Jedi? George Lucas Explains Why Vader Stayed Loyal to Palpatine After Padme's Death
In Star Wars revenge of the Sith, we saw the final conclusion to Anakin Skywalker until his redemption 30 years later at the hands of Luke Skywalker, his son. Anakin’s journey as a slave boy on Tatooine, wide eyed and Ernest to save his slave mother one day, he goes off with the Jedi on some idealistic crusade. Anakin surprises all the Jedi at the temple with his ability to learn quickly and develop his powers beyond what was believed possible for his age. The chosen one, they called him, Anakin went to become the poster boy of the Clone Wars, killing Dooku and befriending the Chancellor, he was haunted by visions of padme dying. Anakin’s prime power, his main power in Star Wars, was the ability to see into the future, which sadly seized immediately once he lost to obi-wan, losing many of his abilities in the process. Once he sold his soul to the Devil as George Lucas calls it, and pledged his allegiance to Palpatine in exchange for the power and knowledge to save his wife, Anakin obliged all of Sidious’ orders. And only through doing such horrendous things, would Anakin achieve such a power in the darkness, that he would be able to safe his wife from certain death. We all know how the story went… Why did Anakin/Vader stay loyal to the Emperor? Why didn't he just move on? Could he have moved on? Why was he sticking around after Palpatine ruined his life? George Lucas just Changed the Game for Jedi and Force Ghosts
Force ghosts have always been such an interesting concept to me. After the end of return of the Jedi, we never saw them again. It always made me wonder what could force ghosts learn in the netherworld? What new abilities and powers could they progress and is it really another dimension just like the living, but with doors that allow for grander powers to be unlocked? Well, today we get to learn of something along the lines that will open many eyes. In the making of the return of the jedi a constant theme I keep seeing within this book and the dialogue between George and his team in regards to the story details and characters, is that there was such a deeper explanation of the powers and abilities of everyone as you may or may not have seen in my previous episodes regarding the making of books. Now with George, he loved to go into the nooks and crannies of his characters, and for today’s episode, we’re going to talk about this power that he was going to give obi-wan. It’s a pretty over powered ability, but it just shows you how powerful a force user can become once they transcend into the netherworld. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
George Lucas Explains WHY Obi-Wan Never Trained Leia
Well here we go folks. An Age old question that can be answered if we go back to the early 80’s when George Lucas was writing out the details to The Return of the Jedi. That’s right, we’re going back to the making of return of the jedi in today's episode, I’m loving this book more and more each time I pick it up because we get to learn George’s reasons behind his writing. George Lucas Explains Why Obi-Wan Lied to Luke About His Father
In the making of the return of the Jedi, George Lucas is going over many difference scenes, and in one short instance, he comes across a discussion with Marquand on the topic of Ben lying to Luke and why he wrote the story that way. George Lucas Reveals Why ONLY Luke Saw Anakin's Force Ghost
In the return of the jedi, we got my favourite scene in all of Star Wars, the celebration after the death start 2 blew up, with Luke hanging his arm on the tree as he gazes off into the distance to acknowledge his father Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Yoda. Many, and I mean many, have theorized that Leia saw them too, and that even Han saw them, as we can see him staring in the background when Luke faces the ghosts. The real answer, is that no one but Luke saw them. I’ll read the quote from George in a bit which actually goes into more detail about others things too, which is great. So to Leia, Han and everyone else there, Luke was just staring into the forest, probably relaxing that the Empire had now been destroyed, or at least, started to fall apart entirely with the death of palpatine and Darth Vader. George Lucas Reveals Power Levels of Luke Vader Palpatine Obi-Wan
In Star Wars, midichilorians were the closest thing we had to power levels. Anakin, as a 9 year old, were over 20,000, more than master Yoda himself. The prequels were the first time we entered a measurable state of the force, now while midichlorians aren’t to be mistaken for one’s full on power levels, they are an abstraction of one’s potential should they train in the force. Now back in the 80’s when esb was being written, George Lucas actually had devised a power ranking system out of 10 for obi-wan, Luke, and the emperor. So as we can see, Luke Skywalker, is a level 2, Obi-Wan with all of his training from qui-gon, Yoda and more is only a 6. This means during the prequels, he was probably a 4, considering the last 20 years he didn’t learn all that much more when it came to his training. Unless, of course, George completely abolished this level system in his mind, and just went straight to the midichlorians. The interesting thing about obi-wan is that he had the poorest connection to the force of all jedi, he was an embarrassment. Both in canon and legends. In fact, in Canon, Qui-Gon in the novel master and apprentice, talks about how Obi-Wan is so far behind compared to where he was at the same age. Basically calling Obi-Wan useless. So for Obi-Wan to be as powerful as the Emperor now, really is a testament to how hard he practiced and trained. Of course, these power levels shouldn’t be as theorized and analyzed as I’m doing now, as they are outdated and clearly something George established for the originals and possibly abolished going beyond that to the prequels, but it is interesting to know. Does this mean that Yoda in the prequels was a level 6, and Obi-Wan was a level 4? Meaning Anakin was also a level 4 while being so much younger, putting in the effect of his many thousands of more midichlorians compared to the rest? This would have given anakin more of a potential to reach a higher level faster than others. Like giving Anakin a higher iq, which wouldn’t necessarily mean he’s smarter than his masters, unless he studied, in which case if he did, he would destroy all of them. So we could assume the rate at which anakin developed his abilities were maybe 2 to 3 times as fast as others who were more average or slightly above even. With Vader being a 4, this is indicative, I think, of his lowered power state that George always talked about after losing to obi-wan. George said that once he lost to obi-wan he’d never reach his full power, and be only 80% as powerful as the emperor, who was a level 6, about to become a level 10. The massive jump to level 10 from 6 meant that he was about to learn some crazy new ability in the short time span from episode 4 to 6. What he could learn, well it’s never discussed I don’t think, but I could rule out the ability to learn lightning, as originally, George wanted Luke to use lightning against Vader, as well as Vader to use lightning against obi-wan in their fight. I think the idea of the emperor getting ready to jump to an immortal power level of 10 and the heroes had to beat the clock so he didn’t get there would have been a bit too comical for me. I like the idea that Sidious always harnessed the power of a 10 and it wasn’t his power that needed to be matched, but the power of love that Vader showed for his son which beat Sidious once and for all. To show that you can change your ways no matter how evil you have become and the horrible things you’ve done, that it’s never too late to change, and in the end, the power of love triumphs over all evil, no matter the power, which in this case it did. Vader saved Luke in a sacrificial last effort and fulfilled the Jedi prophecy of bringing balance to the force. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
George Lucas on Lando to be the Original Clone Trooper Template

George Lucas' Response to Killing Off Luke Skywalker
In Star Wars Return of the Jedi, George Lucas and his team discussed the early treatment of the story and its characters, namely, Luke Skywalker. A good debate transcript from 1981-82 reveals Geroge Lucas' response to Lawrence Kasdan when proposed to kill Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi. George has an eloquent way of discussing the matter as to why he feels that would not be the best thing at all. We also get a glimpse into an alternate ending to Return of the Jedi with Vader's cape getting stuck during the Death Star countdown, after Palpatine dies. This is when we see Luke taking Vader's mask, putting it on, and saying "'Now I am Darth Vader.'" Kasdan was in favor of that ending, but it's ridiculous in my opinion and I'm very happy George Lucas went with the ending that we got from 1983. Do you think George Lucas has the same outlook on Luke Skywalker dying in The Last Jedi? I would assume so, as he had treatments for the sequels and none of the variations we've heard of had Luke dying. In fact, quite opposite. Luke was a power house, and defended the galaxy with the help of his sister. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
George Lucas Says Vader Beats Yoda in a Fight...
In an original discussion regarding The Return of the Jedi, George Lucas tells Lawrence Kasdan a few things about Yoda and the force, including, how Vader would kill Yoda in a fight. This was pre Return of the Jedi. Now of course Yoda's abilities changed later in the prequels with Anakin Skywalker, Mace Windu, Obi-Wan, Dooku, Ahsoka, Palpatine and more, but it's interesting to know that his original idea for Yoda, was for him to not be the Jedi grand master we know him to be today, and that Vader would have actually killed him in a fight! Luke Uses Sith Lightning on Vader in Empire Strikes Back Original Script
in the early scripts for The Empire Strikes back, as noted in 'the making of The Empire Strikes Back" book, we get Luke Skywalker fighting Darth Vader as he's using force lightning. The idea was eventually scrapped of course, but it's interesting to learn of George Lucas' thought process behind giving Luke this power against his father. The Emperor remains to this day, to have some of the most powerful sith force lightning in existence. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Vader "Kills" Luke in Very First Script of Empire Strikes Back
In the Making of The Empire Strikes Back, Vader was supposed to kill Luke Skywalker through the force, telepathically. They were supposed to fight on what becomes Hoth, and in this first draft, Vader isn't Luke's father. He's the guy who killed Anakin Skywalker. R2 saves Luke, again, and blasts off into hyperspace, where Luke was able to breathe again from the force choke. Luke then goes to meet Minch Yoda. Learn more about your ad choices. Anakin's Ghost Visits Luke and Yoda on Dagobah - Star Wars Explained Original Scripts
What if Anakin had shown up to Luke Skywalker on Dagobah with Yoda? How is this possible, you ask? Well, in the original screenplay for The Empire Strikes Back, George Lucas was going to have Anakin Skywalker be a different character than Darth Vader. This would have made Obi-Wan Kenobi's lie to Luke, about his father being killed by Vader, true. It was later changed of course, and we got Vader dropping the line "NO! I AM YOUR FATHER!" which still shocks Star Wars fans who watch Empire for the first time. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Anakin Rages Out at Obi-Wan for Killing His Mother
In Star Wars Attack of the Clones, Anakin's Mother, Shmi Skywalker, passed away due to the Tusken's capturing her. Anakin reveals in the novel that he felt it was majorly Obi-Wan's fault not only that he was held back, but also that he was responsible for her death in the end. I believe if Qui-Gon Jinn had trained Anakin, then things wouldn't have ended up in the dark side. Vader wouldn't exist, and Anakin would restore peace to the galaxy.
