There still seems to be a fair amount of hunters that think pursuing a top-pin archery shot at a big buck out of a ground blind is a hopeless venture. We are here to change that mind-set. After several years of experience, and several instances of having success with archery gear out of ground blinds, we want to tell you everything we do to help us be successful.

Every deer hunter has that one buck they’re after. The number one hit-lister that consumes your thoughts day after day. This week we’ll be diving into what it takes to kill that deer. Catching a mature buck slipping is no easy task, but over the years we’ve learned several tips and tricks that can help you become more successful, and give you a better chance of getting that hit list buck in range.

Managing deer is always a hot topic. We love bringing in different experts from that field to hear their different opinions on what works. Jimmy Riley has been running Giles Island for 24 years, and is no stranger to big deer. Jordan and I picked his brain on the different things and practices he put into place that has helped make Giles Island such a hot bed for truly big white tails.

Fewer things are more exciting to a deer hunter than calling a buck into range. In this episode, we pick Will's brain on everything we can think about when it comes to successfully calling deer in. Different types of calls, using calls together in a sequence, rattling, timing, stand setups for calling. We cover all of it. Questions about managing tracts of land for whitetail hunting is always at the forefront of requests for show topics. This week we pick Brad's brain on things that he likes to do to improve properties to better hold and hunt deer all throughout the season. We cover everything from food sources, to cover, to specifics on entry and exit. We do our best to cover all of it!

Brad has been a member of the Primos team since the early days, and is easily one of the most respected and recognized faces throughout the hunting industry. So it only made sense to us that we sit down with Brad and get him to tell his story, and we were not disappointed. From first bow hunting experiences, meeting Will Primos in an archery shop, hunting rats in his attic, to finally landing a job on the Primos video team, this is an episode that is definitely worth a listen!

We love the opportunity to bring people on this show that come from all different walks of life. It gives us the chance to get different perspectives and better understandings. Our good friend, Hunter Renfroe, has been playing baseball for the San Diego Padres since 2013, and can tell us from first hand experience what it's like to put the extreme work schedule of an MLB outfielder against a strong love for hunting and time in the outdoors. As always, there are several good stories and laughs along the way.

One of the most common requests we get is to cover successfully managing/hunting deer on small tracts of land. Lake and our good friend, Keith Polk dive into this subject head on and discuss first hand experiences, as well as practical and easily applicable things to do to give you a better chance at success when hunting these areas.

So much of how we hunt deer revolves around what they eat. I can speak for the whole Primos team in saying that food plots have drastically changed how we hunt at Cottonmouth, as well as our success rate. This week, Jordan and I go over in great detail, our step-by-step process of planting. We cover everything from, equipment used, spraying, bush-hogging, discing, planting, and fertilizing. This is the most live update podcast episode we have ever done. With one day of elk hunting left for Team Primos, myself and Troy sit down to go over everything that has happened so far during this elk season. We have had plenty of highs as well as plenty of lows, and thankfully walked away with a lot of new things learned. Mississippi is currently enduring the worst flood it has ever seen. We're talking hundreds of thousands of acres under water. There has been significant numbers of wildlife killed. There are still several numbers of wildlife displaced. Peoples' homes and property completely submerged and damaged by the water, and farmers put out of work. It's a disaster. So we are talking with our good friend Carter Mascagni from Habco who has witnessed this first hand, and can tell us what we can do to help, but most importantly share the stories of the people who live there.

Trapping has been a tool utilized by humans since before recorded history. Although the motives behind it have drastically changed over the years from bare necessity, to monetary gain through the fur trade, and now a huge factor in wildlife management, trapping is still a necessary skill for every outdoorsman. Our friend Derick Vance has been trapping for over 20 years and was generous enough to sit down with us and teach us some of the ins and outs of his favorite hobby. Arguably one of the most attractive things about outdoor lifestyle is that it draws in people from all walks of life. This week we are joined by our first ever NFL football player. Korey Cunningham of the Arizona Cardinals is a great guy and avid outdoorsman that we loved to have the chance to sit down and talk with. The 2018-2019 deer and duck season is quickly coming to a close but we still have a little time left. The River is still high, meaning there is water all over the place. The Mississippi River can be a deer hunter's dream, but it can also be his nightmare. Right now at Cottonmouth we're experiencing a high river that is steadily on the rise. We've had to completely change our tactics this week. We're boating in areas that we could ride Polaris Rangers in just a few days prior. We're having to pull stands and blinds out of areas that are going to go completely under water. We're even duck hunting in waist high water where food plots used to be, and we're managing to still get on some good bucks amongst all the craziness. It all comes into hunting a long side this crazy powerful river!

December is a unique time of year in the Mississippi River bottoms. Hunters are privileged to have the option of pursuing either whitetails in the rut or waterfowl as they continue their migration south. In this episode, we discuss the latest action on Cottonmouth, trial and error duck hunts, and our plans for getting a rutting buck in range.

In much of the South East, Whitetail hunters long for the month of December like hunters in the Midwest long for November. Cottonmouth is no exception. It's a magical time of year.
