The Amsterdam Staff Band is the national brass band of the Salvation Army in the Netherlands and was founded in 1962. Today I Feature Pennine Brass, the band ceased to perform with effect from Tuesday 21st October 2008.A democracy to the end, the band only founded in 1999, yet with five Championship Section Yorkshire Area appearances (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008), 1st Section National title (2007), Harry & Margaret Mortimer Memorial Championship title (2006), French Open title (2001), four Grand Shield performances (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) and a Senior Trophy victory (2003) to its name have called time on a short but illustrious history.In a time with many bands struggling for dedicated players, all those involved with the band would prefer Pennine Brass to be remembered for its achievements, and as a band that knew when it was time to call it a day.www.sounds-of-brass.co.uk Hosted on Acast. The Stanshawe BandThe Stanshawe Band was formed in 1968 by a small group of amateur brass musicians from the city of Bristol and surrounding area. For most of its life the band was called the Sun Life Band, after receiving sponsorship from the well-known assurance company, Axa-Sun Life. Its ultimate goal was to become the very brass band in the world.The band reached national award winning standards within only a few years and in 1990 it won The British Open Brass Band Championships, suggesting that it had become the best band in the world. In January 1997 the band found themselves in an unattainable position, where maintaining the very highest of standards was taking too high a toll, so, the band was disbanded.www.sounds-of-brass.co.uk Hosted on Acast. My Tribute to James Shepherd.James Shepherd (1936 - 22 June 2023) was a Northumbrian cornet player, described as one of the world's most respected players of the instrument, having won the Championship Soloist of Great Britain Prize in three consecutive years. He was principal cornet of Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band from 1960 to 1963, then the Black Dyke Band from 1963 to 1973, before forming a brass ensemble, James Shepherd Versatile Brass, which he led until 1989. The Southern Territorial Band unites a geographically diverse territory made up of 15 states from Florida, north to Maryland and West Virginia, and west to Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Members, who travel hundreds of miles to meet together for rehearsals and territorial events only three or four times per year, are Salvation Army officers and soldiers currently serving each week as music and arts ministry leaders in their own local Salvation Army churches.
