Paul and John discuss their experiences about pre-celebrations and dive into what it is, how it works and how you can benefit. KEY TAKEAWAYS Pre-celebration. Could be something like a a family get-together, Christmas, weddings etc. With this in mind, lots of people will take their eyes off what they're doing; particularly their goals & short-term goals. In this time, you need to be focused on what you do or were supposed to do and also, you should keep in mind that you need to stay healthy throughout for you to be able to work efficiently and achieve your success. What happens when you start dodging and your cutting things out from your food; what your body requires, your metabolic rate slows down then what happens is your body starts panicking and start storing fat so at the end of the celebration when you go back to normal you start putting weight on very easy because the metabolic rate is really slow. If you are somebody that doesn't actually do any physical exercise/ training and its celebration time, carry on eating as normal but make sure you're eating clean, healthy things. BEST MOMENTS “Most people only want to do things excessively over a short period. A pre-period of celebration is getting ready and relaxed - spending some quality time with the families." “It’s best to keep the physical exercise/ training going.” “Eat clean, eat well but intensify your training if it’s on celebration period.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Speaking From Our HEARTS (Paul's Book): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Speaking-our-Hearts-Mastering-game/dp/1781332819 Emerging From The Forest (Paul's Book): Paul Lowe - ‘Emerging From The Forest’ ABOUT THE HOST Something that’s never been attached to Paul is the label ‘normal’ – for which he is immensely proud. Are you overwhelmed and out of control and have difficulty focusing? You’re probably stressed. Tune-in now, to find out more about dealing with stress and turning a negative into a positive. KEY TAKEAWAYS Stress is a word that has been used for a long time. It's a strange concept that has been used for every type of anxiety that we may come across in all walks of life. Research in recent years has discovered different levels of stress and the best thing you can do is develop your relationship with stress and learn how to live with it by discovering what it is, what triggers it and how to manage it. Acute stress is the most common form of stress but this won't impact on your overall life. Chronic stress, however, which is the most impactful form of stress can wreak havoc on your mind and body. Over time, stress begins to wear you down both mentally and physically, so you must visit your GP as soon as you start to feel the symptoms. Stress can give you an extra push to helping you achieve your goals, if you learn how to make it work for you, rather than against you. Learn how to master the approach of acknowledging your stress and understanding what triggers it. Then you can make it work for you. To combat stress, give yourself time to relax and ensure you get a good night's sleep. Sleep heals the body and the mind. Don’t simply ignore your stress, learn how to turn it into a positive. S1 Ep 27Rob Moore I Want To Know: An Interview With The Disruptive Entrepreneur

In today’s special episode of The Mastering Life Podcast, your host Paul Lowe interviews philanthropist, best-selling author, host of the UK’s #1 Business Podcast and the Disruptive Entrepreneur himself, Rob Moore. Hear Paul and Rob discuss innovation and change in today’s society and why taking risks can be essential to success. KEY TAKEAWAYS Paul: How do you feel about being disruptived as The Disruptive Entrepreneur? Rob: I would rather disrupt myself than have someone disrupt me as a marketplace can disrupt you, You can have a legal case that can disrupt; you can have really bad health and safety issues. I try and disrupt myself and do that by trying to predict and plan for the unpredictable. Entrepreneur. Someone who is creative and have the desire to solve problems and then is willing to scale that beyond themselves into a bigger, wider audience to make people's lives faster, easier, better, more convenient. The entrepreneur is about creativity. It's about freedom of expression of who you are, and finding a market to serve and having that fair exchange between me giving value and you paying a fair price for it. Labels are necessary for society for us to quickly distill an infinite amount of information to save ourselves time, but ultimately, I don't think any of us can be labeled. We're all unique and we're all an individual. I'm worth more. Labels just serve to assimilate and organize information for us. The entrepreneur is about creativity, it's about solving problems, it's about making money. Any one-sided extremity is probably not the overall reality of humanity. If you drive towards material gain at the expense of others, and purely to fill voids that can be destructive. Why does everyone always want more? If everyone was happy with where they were and felt warm and happy inside and we all sat around a tree and held hands and meditated on everything else, then no meaningful work would get done. Purpose of life. The purpose of life is to continue to learn and grow and to fill the voids we have. Give an insight into I want more. It’s all about helping people increase their self-worth. BEST MOMENTS “The most important thing I think you can give people is education and inspiration, belief and hope.” “The world won't throw a problem at you that you're not capable of solving and the bigger problems you solve, the more of a leader you are perceived by humanity.” “Stop wishing it were better. Wish you were better.” "Any one-sided extremity is probably not the overall reality of humanity." “Happiness is defined through his studies as progress towards a meaningful objective.” “Just say it how it is, speak your truth.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Paul's Mastering The Game of Life Book... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Speaking-our-Hearts-Mastering-game/dp/1781332819 Paul's Emerging From The Forest Book...Emerging From The Forest The Mastering Life Podcast... https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/mastering-life/id1421271122?mt=2 Rob Moore’s 'Start Now - Get Perfect Later' book https://www.amazon.com/Start-Now-Get-Perfect-Later/dp/1473685435 ABOUT THE HOST Something that’s never been attached to Paul is the label ‘normal’ – for which he is immensely proud. S1 Ep 26Benefitting From Understanding Your Mind

Welcome back to the H.O.W (Health, Others [Relationships], Wealth) focus with Paul Lowe. Today, learn the benefits of understanding your mind. Paul interviews Jane McGrath to discuss your brain, your mind and how we can better understand our most important asset. Most people think of the brain and the mind as being one in the same. However, in reality, they are two separate and distinct creations and they work in a symbiotic relationship to monitor everything that you do on this planet. KEY TAKEAWAYS Where hardware would be useless without software and software would be useless without hardware, the brain is the hardware and the mind is the software, so they work together - not separately. The brain is one of the largest and most complex muscles in the human body. It’s the physical place where the mind exists and where thoughts are created. Your brain coordinates your impulses, but you use your mind to think. The mind processes thoughts, perceptions, emotions and memories that take place within the brain. It’s the awareness of consciousness and the ability to control what you do and know what you’re doing and why. Our mindset has adjusted to a new era of information. In life, you have two mindsets, fixed and growth. Your fixed mindset deals with your character and your growth mindset welcomes challenges and see’s failure as a springboard to growth. How do you change and develop your mindset? Simple, education. We live in an ever-changing world and we must adapt. S1 Ep 25Never Give Up - An Inspiring Interview With Christel Rohrs

In this episode, Paul welcomes life coach and councillor Christel Rohrs to the Mastering Life Podcast. Christel shares her own story of dogged tenacity, an unwavering faith in God and the search of belief and self-worth. Paul and Christel discuss why we should never give up in life and why happiness comes from what we believe in - a self-fulfilling prophecy. Tune-in today to hear Christel’s truly inspirational story from breaking free from years of abuse and misplaced belief in God; her life-changing illness and the wonderful work she does helping others in Thailand. KEY TAKEAWAYS Why should we never give up? Not giving up is the only option that many of us have in life. If we do give in to our natural tendencies to want to give up when things get too tough, life basically ends. To be determined, to never give up is the best way of making sure you can live every day to fullest. After years of abuse from her ex-husband and low self-worth, Christel shocked herself into the realisation of her life. She made a decision emotionally and mentally to get herself out of her situation and to tell herself that’s she’s worth more. She changed her beliefs about herself with positive affirmations and finding the good in herself on a daily basis. Everything starts with what you believe about yourself. Happiness all starts with our beliefs that lead into our thoughts. Our thoughts influence our words and our words influence our actions, which in turn influence our habits, our values and ultimately our results. What we believe is what we become; it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. BEST MOMENTS “Every day not giving up is the determination to cling to your inner-strength and focus your mind on being grateful. Even though you may be in emotional, physical or circumstantial pain you must try to put your mind into the focus of gratitude. Ask yourself what are you happy for? What makes you smile?” “You are never as bad as how you feel inside yourself” “I have a continuous feeling of, there was something wrong with me, I was a misfit” “Every day remind yourself of the little things and be grateful and every cell in your body will follow suit.” “Your body is not who you are. Your identity is who you are.” “Don’t just exist with a purpose in your life, live with prosperity.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Paul's Mastering The Game of Life Book... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Speaking-our-Hearts-Mastering-game/dp/1781332819 Paul's Emerging From The Forest Book...Emerging From The Forest The Mastering Life Podcast... https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/mastering-life/id1421271122?mt=2 ABOUT THE HOST Something that’s never been attached to Paul is the label ‘normal’ – for which he is immensely proud. S1 Ep 24Benefitting From Understanding Emotional Balance

What are the benefits of having good emotional balance? In today’s edition of the HOW - Health, others (Relationships), Wealth’ mini-series, Paul is joined by General Practitioner, health coach, wellness advisor and author of ‘The Big Prescription’, Dr Shan Hussain, to discuss emotional balance and how it can affect you, your emotional state, your beliefs and your physical body. KEY TAKEAWAYS What are the benefits of having good emotional balance? We can support our overall well-being by understanding what drives us on an emotional basis. It’s our emotions that lead our actions and everything we do is driven by our emotions, so it’s important to understand how to balance them. It’s also important to be aware that the emotions we feel can have very real changes to our physical bodies. By being led by positive emotions there are a lot of benefits to our physical bodies. Gratitude is a very powerful emotion and it can trigger many positive changes that support our overall health and well-being. When we're practising gratitude it can help bring us into the present in a positive manner. You can do this by writing down a list of the things that you’re grateful for and feel that emotional gratitude within you. BEST MOMENTS “Your emotional state will trigger our actions and directly lead to our real-life results.” “Gratitude can help bring about positive changes to our overall health” “Beware of stressors” “The thoughts we have are continuously repeated over and over again.” “Beliefs, thoughts words, habits, values, actions and results. S1 Ep 23Grief Can Be Overcome: Cherri Forsyth

In today's episode of the Mastering The Life Podcast, your host Paul Lowe interviews Cherri Forsyth. Today, they talk about grief and how to overcome grief. Cherri had lost Kerry, her young daughter when she was 41 years old and it took her immense faith and durability to overcome her grief. Her husband, however, took 11 years to be able to recover from the loss that he has experienced. It is not an easy situation when you lose someone. But you have a choice - you can be a victim forever or you can use your situation to become a better person. What would you choose? KEY TAKEAWAYS Grief. In the western culture, we do not discuss grief at all. We are expected to get back to normal, getting on with things early. Our culture kind of dismisses grief as not important; like something you can get over quickly like an illness or a cold. It's like you get hurt and then be back to normal again. In the western culture, Cherri thinks we don’t allow the healing process Misunderstanding. People think that you will go back to normal as time passes. But no, you will never go back to your old self again. It is either you stay in victimhood or become a better person. Time. We do need the process and time to heal us. But it is what we do over the time that will really determine how strong we are. Overcoming the grieving process or maybe how positively we overcome the process of grieving. Overcoming grief. There are no hard rules on when a person can overcome a grief. Why? It really depends on how close you are to the person. Or if you had a row with a person before he/ she met an accident, the feelings of guilt will also affect the whole situation. Or if it is a suicide, a lot of questions can come up in your mind, a lot of what if I did these… I could have prevented it, etc. You certainly would not be able to tell. But once you come out on the other side, you will be stronger and be a better person, provided that you allow the journey to do its work. Positive mindset. This is such a gift. You are experiencing a really dark and painful process, but a positive mindset allows you to know that things will get better in time. Whereas if you don't have a positive mindset, you can't know that things will get better. There is hope if you have a positive mindset. There's a there's less anxiety around. It plays an enormous role. Physical condition. This will affect our ability to overcome our grieving process. Your body is in a weak place. Your mind is also weak. For example, two elderly people lost someone, how will their body cope up with the grieving process? Relationships. During the grieving process, some loved ones will be with you. Unfortunately, some won’t be with you. Relationships are taken away, but on the other hand, new ones are given to you; people that you don’t expect who will come to your side during the whole process. This will make you stop and think. We can release all of that negativity. Be loving, you don’t have to wait till someone dies to do that. Growth. When Cherri lost her daughter Kerry, it made her realise that she knows nothing. There are volumes of things to learn. Being challenged because you are in the process of grieving or being challenged because of a friend who is not there to support us. And then you realise that you have already grown a lot since then. Harness the hardship to make it work for you. Angel mums. These are mothers who have lost their children. Contribution. When you are in a stronger place, grieving people could be of immense value to the other people who are still starting the journey. Purpose. When Cherri was about 18 years old she received a poem about a child that is given to her for a short period of time to look after and then she goes back. She remembered that poem. Why would she remember that poem unless it is part of the purpose of her life to experience the loss of a child, and then be able to help them in dealing with loss. She feels that as far as the grieving journey is concerned, a part of our purpose is to overcome loss challenges across the board and loss is one of them. Prosperity. The wealth of the relationships of the people in our lives and that is what makes us rich. In the grieving side, if you have a lot of people walking alongside you during the journey of grieving then you are very healthy. Philanthropy. Ubuntu is a South African term which means embracing and helping humanity and it's a lovely principle. If Cherri hadn't experienced the loss of Kerry, she knows that she wouldn't be in that position to able to help those associations. BEST MOMENTS“Attitude is very damaging for people who are in the process of mourning for a loved one.” “The grief actually probably expedite the process even more because what we may recognise that pain in small doses is very good because it's a great lever for change. Suffering certainly isn't... There's no benefits to suffering at all... unless we can use it as a very strong powerful lever for change for the better obviously.”

S1 Ep 22Benefitting From Understanding Activity & Rest

Paul welcomes back general practitioner, health coach, wellness advisor and author, Dr Shan Hussain to discuss the benefits of activity and rest, as seen in his book ‘The Big Prescription’ KEY TAKEAWAYS What are the benefits to physical activity? The physical body is designed to be active. There’s a ton of evidence out there supporting the benefits of regular activity and allowing our bodies to move in a physical sense. This includes weight management, cardiovascular and much more. Most people’s rest levels are not where they should be, so progressively we should be introducing more activity and better sleep so that we can achieve our health goals. Generally, 7-9 hours of sleep is recommended per night and when we’re trying to fall asleep at night we need to control our breathing. Using the 4-7-8 technique, this can help us get to sleep. 1) Exhale completely through your mouth. 2) Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose to a mental count of 4. 3) Hold your breath for a count of 7. 4) Exhale completely through your mouth, to a count of 8. BEST MOMENTS Self-talk - “I need to be strong, I need to be fit, so I need to undertake some kind of activity every day” “We do need we are making sure that our bodies are getting enough rest on a regular basis so that we can cover from the day.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Mastering Life Podcast (#019) https://omny.fm/shows/mastering-life/aim-019-balancing-the-three-principles-of-enduring?in_playlist=mastering-life!podcast ‘The Big Perscription’ Book: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Big-Prescription-Balancing-Principles-Enduring/dp/1599327163 Speaking From Our HEARTS (Paul's Book): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Speaking-our-Hearts-Mastering-game/dp/1781332819 Emerging From The Forest (Paul's Book): Paul Lowe - ‘Emerging From The Forest’ ABOUT THE HOST Something that’s never been attached to Paul is the label ‘normal’ – for which he is immensely proud. S1 Ep 21Cancer Diagnosis: It's Not A Death Sentence - Jane McGrath

In today's episode of the Mastering Life Podcast, your host Paul Lowe interviews Jane McGrath. Jane first encountered cancer in the 70's when she learned that her father had lung and oesophagal cancer. He went through all the treatments: the chemotherapy, the surgery, and the radiotherapy. Unfortunately, he died in 1981 an event that started her research trips about cancer. Then in 2009, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She said that when you have cancer, you will know it. She had panic attacks, her hormones are doing things that aren't her and she got checked right away. She went to all three treatments: the chemotherapy, the surgery, and the radiotherapy. She had some severe after-effects from the chemo, even now. Tune-in today to hear Jane's inspiring story. KEY TAKEAWAYS Journal. When Jane and her five chemo friends were undergoing the treatment, they each kept a journal. It has a dual purpose. Firstly, it was sort of a 'Dear Diary' for them. Also, it could be a trigger for their care team, if one day they weren't feeling well - if something seemed wrong they weren't sure what. They could then look back and see what happened within the last week; and thereby a bit of detective work - CSI-type training - just so to see if there's something they could deal with straight away. Support. Family. Friends. Online support. You do not need to feel alone. You will have support and you will soon find out who your true friends are. Power of the mind. Does a strong positive mind that contributes significantly to overcoming cancer? Yes, it does. It depends on how you work with your mind. Mindset is very particularly important to start with. Meditation. Go somewhere quiet. Put on the earphones and meditate - it's brilliant. Try it once, and you will just see what it's like. Diet. When you look at what diets we had 200 years ago, or go back further, our ancestors and what we are eating now. It's the American diet versus the Mediterranean diet because what we should be doing is the Mediterranean diet; but being half-American, Jane says she can say this. The American diet is such rubbish. It should be blown out of existence along with certain people. It's fast food. Environment. It is so difficult nowadays because of so much pollution. Toxic stuff around you that contributes to cancer. Be mindful of those.Awareness. Be careful of what you eat, what you do. What's around you. Awareness and the power of awareness is certainly the starting point for any journey or any learning no matter what it may be. Childhood. Everything goes back to what you have done and eaten in childhood. What causes cancer? Bad sugar. Bad fat. You need to be aware of that. Yes, you can do something about it - have less. The more you can get rid of - or change it to something, more beneficial, more healthy - you are doing so much for your body and your body will pay you back a thousand-fold because it will help you, and it always will do. But you've got to help it. Your immune system is going to be shocked. Your immune system has got to come back. And that is the way you should do it, look after each other. Treatments. - Specifically chemotherapy, chemotherapy drugs are so toxic. If they got a tiny bit of that on their hand, or any part of their body, it burns right through like acid. If you need to go to the loo after you have been treated, there's a special loo to that other people can't go. You have to be separated. That is in a nutshell. It is killing cancer cells and really good healthy cells that look after you. no one knows the percentage of which goes. Surgery. They only need to take off what needs to be taken off. Radiotherapy. No problems with it. It was a bore for Jane. I have this diagnosis. What do I do? The first thing to do is sit down, calm down, go to your happy place, and sit there for a little while. Then, I would say, how do you want to go forward? do you want to go tell your family, tell friends, work people or first thing to do is get one of your best friends, when I say friends rather than family because the family can be overpowering at this stage. Get a level-headed friend who can be your big support who can go to appointments with you and stuff. There are some things you need to sort out but the main thing is how you're feeling at the moment. Look at your diet. The sooner you start pumping lovely fresh fruits and vegetables. The sooner you will be helping your immune system to fight what is gonna go on. Take out the old rubbish and take in new ideas and procedures. Start eating well and start doing exercise. Advice: Say, always I can work on that or I can work with that. Yes, I can change it. Write down what you eat in a week. How much of that is good? How much of that is bad? Get rid of the bad. Explore new foods, explore new lifestyles. Go for lovely long walks on nice days. Don't sit in front of the television or the computer all day. All or so many things you can change which is very easy and you can do it yourself a

S1 Ep 19Balancing The Three Principles Of Enduring Health: Dr. Shan Hussain

In today's episode of the Mastering The Life Podcast, your host Paul Lowe interviews Dr. Shan Hussain, author of the best-selling book, The Big Prescription: Balancing the Three Principles of Enduring Health. Today's topic is the foundation of health. A lot can be learned today as Paul and Dr. Shan discuss the importance of physical, emotional, and spiritual health. They dig deeper into the three areas of wellbeing that we have an influence on. How do we focus on those three areas of our lives? We can control them. We can do something about them. The other areas that we don't have control over, let them go. There are other factors related to human's wellbeing, for example, coaching. Coaching is important nowadays. Somebody just needs to remind us of what to do to achieve our health goals in life. Paul and Dr. Shan also talk about stress. How do we reduce stress? Is stress affecting all three areas of your life? If yes, how do you go about it? Listen now to the valuable insights and advice from Dr. Shan. KEY TAKEAWAYSThe three areas as defined by the WHO that we have an influence on: Physical well-beingMental well-beingSocial well-being The aim behind what Dr. Shan tried to write in the book is to give people simple, practical, easy advice and simple changes that they can implement into their lives to naturally improve their health without the need of doctors, nurses, or medication. We are becoming increasingly distracted from the lifestyle elements of many diseases that have now become increasingly prevalent in today's society. It's a good reminder particularly for practising clinicians to have amongst them that lifestyle problems also require lifestyle solutions. And it's becoming increasingly obvious that we can't out medicate our way out of unhealthy lifestyle choices. What we're all seeking is we just want to be happy. We want to find a way to be happy. But unfortunately, we kind of create a lot of rules around what happiness needs to look like. ‘I'll be happy if I manage to do this or achieve that or get this or any set amount of money or be in a relationship with this person.' Sometimes, we can set up those kinds of rules and make it a very difficult game to play in terms of seeking happiness. Paul's HOW Model: - Health - Others - Wealth It's not about having a great health; it is about what we can do with great health. What we can achieve as a result of great health. Anything we want to do in life, we can do better or faster, more productively, more efficiently if we have our health at optimal levels, and we are also in a stronger position to enjoy and reap the benefits of what we do and what we achieve. We are trying to take people away from illness and into health. But coaching is more about taking people that are actually quite well and quite stable and quite accountable, but they want more. They want to have optimal health and energy and well-being and vitality. That's where coaching comes in. People still need support around areas of health through coaching whilst not actually being acutely unwell. The purpose of the coach is to help you get from where you are to where you want to be and recognizing that actually where you are is okay if that's where you want to be, but where do you want to be? Our physical bodies, our minds, and our environments, our interaction with our environment; each of these three areas are fluid. They're constantly changing. The physical body is constantly regenerating itself. Old cells are dying. New cells are replacing them. Same with our emotional well-being and our mental health, it's constantly changing. It's fluid. We have new thoughts that are rising all the time. And these could all potentially lead to emotions, and behaviours and outcomes and then, our social environments are constantly changing. One of the greatest silent epidemics of modern times is stress. People around the world are stressed. A mindful practice is basically something that when you do, you are completely immersed in doing. You are not thinking about anything else. You are not worrying about the past, you are not stressing about things in the future. You're totally present in that moment. One example is meditation. So every day we've got to do something to help release that stress. Something healthy and it's got to be releasing the stress. It's not about escaping from it with a glass of wine or a cigarette or whatever might be. It's about actually what we can to do that actively release it. Emotional detachment can be very powerful. We have the tendency to surrender our emotional well-being to events that are totally outside our control. It's important to have that detachment. Just remember what we can actually do what we are in control of doing and just detach ourselves from the things that we can't control. Let it go. Most people are only about two or three steps away from the level of health they're seeking. No more than 5 steps. It's about finding those steps. BEST MOMENTS"We've all got th

S1 Ep 18Benefitting From Understanding Fats

Welcome to another episode of the HOW - Health, Others (Relationships), Wealth mini-series. Today, Paul and Trainer John (Batterby) discuss the benefits of understanding fats in our diets. John talks about the three functions of fats in our bodies and goes on to explain the roles of good fats vs bad fats and how this can affect our health, our diets and the functions of the body. Fats provide energy and absorb certain nutrients to maintain your body temperature. You need to consume fat every day to support your functions. Good fats protect your heat whilst bad fats increase your risk of disease. KEY TAKEAWAYS The Three Functions of Fat in the body Fats are a source of energy, your system turns to fats as a backup energy source when carbohydrates are not available. Fat is a concentrated source of energy, with one gram of fat containing nine calories, almost double the calories contained in carbs. Due to fats high-calorie count, we need to limit our intake to 20-35% calories from fats per day. Vitamins A, D, E & K require fat for absorption. These are known as fat-soluble vitamins and cannot function without adequate fats in the body. If you don’t meet your daily fat intake or you’re on a diet that actively avoids fats the function of these vitamins may be affected as a result. Insulation and temperature regulation. Fats cells stored in tissue insulate the body and help to regulate temperature. These are not often visible, however, if you’re overweight you may be able to see an abundance of tissue in certain areas. BEST MOMENTS “When people go on diets they cut out the fats, however, this can affect the vitamins in the body” “Fat is not a bad thing around the body” “People tend to be scared of fats.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Speaking From Our HEARTS (Paul's Book): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Speaking-our-Hearts-Mastering-game/dp/1781332819 Emerging From The Forest (Paul's Book): Paul Lowe - ‘Emerging From The Forest’ http://www.paullowehearts.com/ ABOUT THE HOST Something that’s never been attached to Paul is the label ‘normal’ – for which he is immensely proud. S1 Ep 17Catherine Turner: A Property Investor's Alternative House

In today’s episode of the Mastering Life Podcast, your host Paul Lowe interviews Catherine Turner, mum, entrepreneur and multi-business owner. They discuss the Six Human Needs of people. Be it in business or personal life, it is better to understand these needs, to be able to carry on with their mission and purpose in life. Catherine was working on three jobs and wanted a way out. She went into property and the rest is history, But what made her quit her jobs? Why did she want an alternative way of living? She has a mission and a purpose in life, Catherine discusses these in detail together with Human Needs, beliefs, values, goals, and strategies in today’s episode. KEY TAKEAWAYS Certainty. Growing up, Catherine had lots of certainty in her life. She had consistency in schooling and friends. But you can always see where the void and the lack the lack is. There is an uncertainty about his role as a father in her life for a long time. We all want certainty and security. Security of the people around you, the team. There is freedom when you have security. It is freedom in your mind to know that you have an option to travel, give your children the best start in life, when you are financially free, when you have a certain regular income. She grew up with a single mom. Being a single mom is the hardest job in the world. She needs some certainty in some areas. Now, she focused on that lacking part of her life. Advice to the young generation. The world is different now since we have access to almost everything because of the internet. School is antiquated. You have to go out into the world and find someone who is doing what you want to do. Where they train, what they do, what are their routines? You also have to find people who are 2 or 3 steps ahead of you because they remember where they have started. You need to find a mentor, a coach that could be invaluable. You have to seek out these people. Remember that everything is in your phone if you want it. Contact these people. Pain and Pleasure. The two great motivators in life. Pain or suffering, people will say that if I can get away from it, I will do something about it. Getting away from the pain of something is very powerful to tap into. Uncertainty and Variety. Catherine loves the idea of travel and having that variety because she didn’t really have that growing up. One because there wasn't the certainty of income for them to go on holidays and abroad. It's really interesting that sometimes it's the thing where you've had the certainty of. But it is the kind of certainty that gave her the reason that she wanted the variety. As a business owner, it was doing something against the norm. It is uncertain to go work for yourself and to be your own boss and not to have a guaranteed wage packet coming in. But then again, she always loved that idea kind of being her own boss and doing what she wanted to do. The need for significance. Some people would say that they don’t need significance, but they do. As for Catherine, she was once a dancer on stage. On stage, there is a real buzz and thrill when you hear that instant applause and congratulations. You do love to please people, to make people smile and be happy. It makes you feel better about yourself. We all need significance. The need for love and connection. Love, connection, marriage, and partnership. It takes time. It takes work. And Catherine is really glad they’ve got time with each other. Catherine thinks that if we would say that level 3 would be what you might seem, what you might expect to be a happy loving married couple, and then actually know that there is a level 4 of having true deep communication, connection, love and yes, definitely a kind of empathy as well with each other. Just be kind to each other. It is the simple things. Shoebox. A relationship is like a shoe box. You take stuff out of the box. Then the shoe box is empty and you have nothing to give. Why don't we put stuff into it as individuals? Then you can share between you. Humans mostly say, what is in it for me? Growth. It would have been like an achievement, grades you got. But it is more than that. Catherine didn't realize how much she loves to learn. How much she wants to explore different concepts. Debate things with people. Really kind of getting into the nitty-gritty until the last few years that she understood that she loves that. She loves being able to help other people grow in areas they didn't know was possible or give them some insights and inspiration. Contribute. We are all human. We're all here to contribute something. We're all unique. We've got a unique talent or unique gift that we can share, and inspire people with. It doesn't have to be this massive great thing that this new idea that no one's ever heard of before. It can be really just simple sharing your journey, your insights, the knowledge, and experience you've gained that someone else would have never thought about before or heard about. The need for contribution

S1 Ep 16Benefitting From Understanding Proteins

Welcome to another episode of the HOW - Health, Others (Relationships), Wealth mini-series on the Mastering Life Podcast. Paul welcomes back personal trainer John Batterby to discuss the benefits of proteins in our diets. Trainer John talks about the five major roles of protein in your body, and the importance of leading a life with a balanced diet that includes protein. It’s really important to understand proteins because protein is in every cell in the body and is an essential requirement for the health of the human body. KEY TAKEAWAYS The Roles of Protein in Your Body Building muscles and tissues - Protein is needed in building and repairing muscles tissues if we don't get enough and exercise our muscles this can lead to health problems and other issues. Protein is necessary to the muscle system to help to repair tears and grow. Hormone production - Hormones are chemicals produced by glands that help to coordinate activities and communicate with other areas. Protein hormones bind to the receptors on the cell membrane rather than entering the cell directly. Your protein is needed to run the body. Enzymes - Enzymes are proteins that bind to the molecules that speed up chemical reactions and play many activities such as muscle contractions. Your reactions will be quicker the more protein you have in your body. Your immune function - Antibodies are specialised protein configurations that provide a specific defence against invaders. If you are low on protein you will struggle to get rid of the flu or a cold. Energy - Protein is broken down into imino acids during digestion and provides 4 calories per gram. Including protein in your meals can help you feel satisfied and fuller quicker. BEST MOMENTS “Protein can be found in animal products such as meats and dairy products and also plant-based foods such as beans and seeds” “10-35% of your calorie intake should come from protein” “1-1.2 grams of protein per kilo of body weight” VALUABLE RESOURCES Speaking From Our HEARTS (Paul's Book): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Speaking-our-Hearts-Mastering-game/dp/1781332819 Emerging From The Forest (Paul's Book): Paul Lowe - ‘Emerging From The Forest’ http://www.paullowehearts.com/ ABOUT THE HOST Something that’s never been attached to Paul is the label ‘normal’ – for which he is immensely proud. S1 Ep 15Colin Slater MBE: Life's An Ever-changing Game

In today’s episode of the Mastering The Life Podcast, your host Paul Lowe interviews Colin Slater MBE. Colin is an octagenerian gentleman who spent his life in broadcasting and more specifically, in the world of football. Colin shares his knowledge and insights about how to master life and his views on broadcasting and football. Colin discusses how life has changed over the span of years. He also recalls the time when high blood pressure didn’t have any medicine. He also talks about the most important characters that he met during his lifetime. Listen now to today’s episode on life and how it is an ever-changing game. KEY TAKEAWAYS Insight to life in general. Change is constant in life, and Colin has seen a lot of change over the past decades. He mentions that change is development and therefore, moving forward; but it doesn’t always. Not all changes work for the better. They are not all for the benefit of society because they don't move the world forward. But he's seen changes pretty well in every part of the world in which he had moved and had his being. He cannot think of an area where he has not seen change. He recognizes that there had been enormous changes as a result of technical improvements over the ages. Where would we be today without such improvements? Medical Advancement. Previously, having a gall bladder operation would have left a big scar - not now though. Recently, a friend of Colin's also underwent the removal of a gall bladder; this time by keyhole surgery and without the subsequent external bodily scar. That's a transformation for good. In the 1940’s Colin’s father was diagnosed with high blood pressure. He was advised to lower consumption of salt and very sparingly eating red meat. There was no medicine then, his father died when he was around 46 years old. Unlike now, there is already pretty much a pill for everything. Life is complex. He is not saying that it's frighteningly complex or anything like that, but he does believe that - due to relationships with others - life can often become complicated. A good example being in the workplace; you don't always agree - or even like - colleagues but nonetheless, still have to deal with whatever challenges may be presented. Not all people are co-operative; they're not all even-tempered and not everyone is on your side - but you have still got to deal with them for the benefit of your employers and for your own development as a character, as a person. Bill Shankly. The man who created what Liverpool Football Club is today. They are Bill Shankly's Club. Common trait of great people - be it in broadcasting or football - is never to be satisfied with second best - always wanting to do your best. Success in life, if it's not going to be a flash in the pan, a one-off, is not achieved by sitting-back and resting on your laurels. It’s achieved by very hard, dedicated work. People under-rate how much work goes in. These people haven't just achieved what they did achieve by chance or luck. They don't ever do that. This breed of person, they always take it on and take it further, and that's what makes them stand out as outstanding people. Principles. There is something interesting about people who joined boards of directors of football clubs. He’s known so many of them over the years. He’s known them well. And he’s known that they were undoubtedly successful in business, but they run their businesses to certain principles, and they were keen always to apply those principles year in year out. “That's got us where we are and we are going to stay with our principles. We're not going to be tempted away from them.” Colin thinks that's a very fine trait. Life’s purpose. What he has learned in life, and what he tried to apply day by day, it is to give off his best in all circumstances, and he picked those words carefully because it means to give, means giving of yourself. Voluntary sectors. The voluntary sector helps to keep Britain going. Two examples. One is the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and Saving Lives at Sea running entirely on voluntary subscriptions. Two is the British Red Cross who flourishes despite the problem of having to raise every penny for themselves. But these things only happen and were only able to achieve them because there are enough people in society, could do with more; but there are enough people in society who give themselves. Poverty. An alternative to prosperity, is usually thought of and often is another 'P' and it is poverty, and we know what poverty is. Poverty is when you are scraping money together when you don't have enough money to do what really you need to be able to do. Values have changed. The value of money has changed remarkably. Colin started his working life with a weekly wage of 1 pound and 10 shillings. He knows what it is not to have enough money. He knows and remembers it. And he never allows it to leave him completely. Later on, you get more money and you can do more things like holidays, leisure time. Bu

S1 Ep 14Benefitting From Understanding Carbohydrates

Welcome to another episode of Mastering Life with Paul Lowe. Today Paul continues his H.O.W; Health, Other (Relationships), Wealth series. Tune- in to hear Paul, and today’s guest, Personal Trainer John Batterby, discuss the benefits of carbohydrates. Learn how to avoid the bad carbs, stick to the good carbs and discover how to carb-load in a healthy and fulfilling way. Learn the role of carbohydrates in the body and the three macro-nutrients in everybody's diet. Carbohydrates come in various forms and can be found in a wide variety of foods. Carbs are the most vital food source for the body and are essential for a balanced diet, however, some carbs are better than others. KEY TAKEAWAYS Carbohydrates provide immediate fuel - Every cell in the human body needs glucose for fuel, especially your brain cells. Carbs provide fuel in the form of glucose, and in many forms. Simple carbs such as fructose, galactose, glucose and sucrose which are rapidly digested carbs and then, converted to fuel. These come from foods like fruit, vegetables and packaged foods that have ‘added sugar’ Carbohydrates that we store for energy, used later in the day - Your daily carb intake provides fuel for later use, in the form of glycogen. This form of carbohydrate plays an important role in keeping your energy levels up. Blood sugar levels should remain constant and as a result, the body converts glycogen to glucose when blood sugar levels dip. Carbohydrates help to preserve your muscle - Getting enough carbs through your diet helps to increase the strength in your muscles. When immediate glucose is not available and stored carbs are depleted the body breaks down the protein the muscle fibres to convert to glucose in a process known as ‘gluconageniesis’ Carbohydrates for exercise performance - Your muscles store glycogen to maintain energy levels throughout an exercise. When you get moving and working your muscles glycogen feeds your muscles so that you can work out to your maximum potential. Choosing healthy carbohydrates - Your body attempts to convert all carbs into glucose and therefore the type of carbohydrates you consume is vital to your health. Getting too many carbs from added sugars is very harmful. Attempt to get most of your carbs from fruit, vegetables and high-fibre foods. Try to reduce your added sugar intake to no more than 100 calories for women and 150 calories or less for men. S1 Ep 13Richard Gerver: Change & Simple Thinking

In today’s episode of Mastering The Game Of Life Podcast, your host Paul Lowe interviews Richard Gerver. Richard was a Primary School teacher and then a Primary Head-teacher for the best part of his 20-year career. Then he took a big personal risk and decided to be a freelancer for the first time. Now working across a whole range of organizations and industries, two particular strands fascinated him. One is ‘change’ and why so many people and so many organizations find change so difficult. And the other is why we tend to over-complicate’ everything and why we believe that success and transformation in turn, have to be complicated. Change and Simple Thinking, these are the two books that today’s guest, Richard wrote for these two big topics. This leads to the discussion of how we can make ourselves think simply and go with change so that we can live a happy and balanced life. KEY TAKEAWAYS Richard: Sometimes, I'm feeling like a fraud onstage. Explanation: What he means in the book is that you don't have to have something complex to say, in order for it to be significant. As a Primary School teacher, you spend your days in the company of remarkable young people; all of them are under 11. You don't tend to have to intellectualize what it is you do, your interactions, your human relationships, even your planning and thinking around the teaching and learning that you deliver. Richard has been with former world leaders, celebrities, Nobel Prize winners and their common attribute is they all have a child-like enthusiasm for the world. They have unquenchable levels of curiosity. 5-year-old kids. We learn 70-75 per cent of everything in our lifetime, before we're five. There’s a 5-year period of bounty. What follows is famine. These kids have gorgeous incredible infectious levels of curiosity for the simple things in life. For them, failure is not a bad thing but a path to something. Tower example. When kids build a tower and it topples down, they just laugh and build it once again. They build and build until they learn how it won't topple the next time they build a tower again. As an adult, we mostly won't see the failure that way. We always think that failure is bad. We were taught that way. As we get older, we increasingly tend to avoid situations where we are likely to fail, high-risk environments. Failure. We have to embrace moments of failure and make mistakes. And the trick is because we sensor our behaviour based around that fear of making a mistake, failure or thinking something isn't going to work for us, yet as young children, we don't see that concept of failure as a bad thing. If we can tap into being children once again, it would greatly change our lives. Over nurturing and over protecting the young ones. We always seek certainty. Certainty equals stability and stability equals happiness. We are preoccupied from a very young age. We are doing what we are told and we are doing it to the best of our abilities. This guarantees a job for life, guarantees a regular income per month, and allows us to afford a holiday and so on. We were trained to seek out certainty. But nothing is really certain. When certainty falls. Promises are only as good as long as it is met. But how about when they fail? Education and doing what you are told, being promised a good, bright and stable future, and have a certain future. If all fails, it leads to the massive grating of the emotional and social plates where people did what they were told, and they didn't get what they're promised. Mindset recalibration. How can I recalibrate my own mindset? Not only so that I can survive but thrive in the future. But my family and friends can do the same thing. Many people always look at things externally when in fact; you need to look at internally. You cannot control the outside, but you can change how you react to it. Reinvention. Reinvention. Childhood. Power of curiosity. Children are always dissatisfied. They are hungry to know more, be more and experience more. If we can tap the 5 years old that is inside of us, we will have curiosity quotient. Together with intellect actually defines human beings and our drive to be better and create better societies. Curiosity. You can't lie to yourself. You can't fake curiosity. You can't be interested in stuff that you aren't interested in. Sometimes you have to be disciplined enough to push yourself through those process, and we learned that from being children. You don't have to be curious all the time, just allow yourself to be curious about the things that interest you. The trick in modern life is to make sure you find the space and time to be curious. Beliefs. It’s a very personal thing. As long as they don't interfere with other people. Never at the expense of other people. People are honest with themselves, you can't lie to yourself. People don't follow their own beliefs though. They either follow beliefs that are expected of them or sometimes they follow a belief system which they think

S1 Ep 12Benefitting From Understanding Food Labels

Welcome to Mastering Life with Paul Lowe. Today Paul introduces his weekly quick-bite series which centres around the acronym H.O.W; Health, Others (Relationships), Wealth? "..Something that's in 99.9% of houses throughout the world...The dreaded food label." -John Batterby In today’s episode, your host Paul Lowe interviews John Batterby. John discusses reading food labels. It can be daunting at first but once you get used to it, it will be easy. Stay tuned... Paul talks with Personal Trainer John Batterby about learning to analyze and comprehend the information found on the food label. Trainer John explains to Paul what to avoid, such as trans-fats and high sugars, whilst offering insights into what you should be looking for; giving great information on what to search for when aiming to make an informed and healthy choice. KEY TAKEAWAYS Serving Size. This provides information regarding the quantity of the product. It is usually per 1 serving. But you have to check because there are some that are 3 or 5 servings. Calories. This information tells you how much energy you get in a pack. Fats. This should not be avoided as our body needs the right amount of fat, essential fatty acids that helps with inflammation, brain development, etc. Unsaturated – this is good for the heart. Saturated – this comes from meat and dairy. It causes heart diseases. Trans-fat – this is the worst offender. This is man-made and has no benefit at all. You will want to avoid this at all costs because it will trigger diabetes, heart diseases, cardio vascular complications, etc. Avoid this when you can. Cholesterol. This helps in controlling the hormones. But too much is not good. Sodium. This helps the blood pressure. Normally, we should consume 2000 to 3000 mg a day. But if you have a high blood pressure complication, you would need just around 1000 mg per day. Total Carbohydrates. This is the source of our energy. Processed – this will make you hungry sooner. Whole Grain – this has more fiber. Enriched/Bleached. This is processed carbohydrates. It has little nutrition. Whole Grains. It helps in our digestion process to make it run smoothly. Sugar. Natural - organic Added – this is added to change the taste of the pack. Overconsumption of this sugar will lead to high blood pressure, diabetes. Protein. It helps facilitate with muscle repair and growth. This is needed for our bodies to run properly. BEST MOMENTS “Reading the food label can seem daunting, especially at first. But after some practice, you will be able to know exactly what you look for in the labels. And over time, you’ll know what to expect before you even see itself.” “It is not telling a full picture.” “It is important to remember that the list is only 1 serving.” “Keep healthy, keep wealthy.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Speaking From Our HEARTS (Paul's Book): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Speaking-our-Hearts-Mastering-game/dp/1781332819 Emerging From The Forest (Paul's Book): Paul Lowe - ‘Emerging From The Forest’ http://www.paullowehearts.com/ ABOUT THE HOST Something that’s never been attached to Paul is the label ‘normal’ – for which he is immensely proud. S1 Ep 11There's More Than One Way To Change

In today’s episode of the Mastering The Life Podcast, your host Paul Lowe interviews Matthew Burbridge. Paul and Matt explain that there is more than one way to change in life and that all of us struggle in life. We undergo challenges and pain and we are always looking for guiding lights. However, life is not a one-size-fits-all solution. All those challenges that we face, we learn and grow as we pick up the pieces in life, thus, creating our belief system. It moulds us into a person that we are now, today. Matt discusses his ethos and how it can benefit everyone in this world. It is specifically for entrepreneurs however, it also works for everyone. Learn more about life with Matthew - stay tuned. KEY TAKEAWAYS Have a purpose. All of us need to have a purpose in life. If you don’t have a purpose then you are likened to a ship without a rudder. You are just going to be tossed around by life’s waves, you are going to be hitting rocks and you do not know what you are doing or where you are going. ETHOS Be more. Every day that you wake up you feel that you just want to be more. Do more. Accept who you were in the past. If you hold stuff in, you don’t share it with the world. It will manifest. It will destroy you internally. It just does. Be supreme Understand who you are right now. I am who I am. That’s who I am today. Know who you want to become. Know who you want to be. You won’t get to the vision without clarity and purpose. Be supreme. We are a sum of our thoughts and our beliefs. Our beliefs massively influence us. If your beliefs are in the right place. You can be supreme. Believe in the power of beliefs. Life is full of fake fears, full of failures, full of hardships, and there is nothing that we can do about some of those. We just have to accept them. But what you can do is control the internal that you can control. We can control how we react to those things happening. Consistency. Do you have the ability to remain consistent with your vision in the face of all those things? Because if you do, you will be supreme. BEST MOMENTS “The pivotal moments takes some form of control about how we see ourselves or our future.” “Be more, do more, be supreme.” “I believe that everybody can utilize my ethos to create change.” Paul: The point I’m trying to make is, we need a purpose. I liken it to a ship without a rudder. If you haven’t got a rudder, you are just gonna be tossed around by life’s waves and you gonna be hitting rocks. You don’t know what you don't know; but what you do know is what you can control - ourselves.” There is one difference between the people get somewhere in life and the ones that don’t and that is the ability to retain the same mindset that gets them to their feet during their troughs. If you can do that, if you can control which you can because it’s internal, you can control the same mindset and sustain that place regardless if it’s a peak or trough that you are going through. You will become a winner. You get where you need to go. You will be supreme. That is just how it is. But a lot of people can’t do that.” “Our beliefs become our thoughts. Our thoughts become our words. Our words become our actions.” – Gandhi “Life is a very simple game. Being human, we complicate it. Change is a simple as ABC." S1 Ep 10New Insights Into Life's Purpose: Bill Burridge

In today’s episode of the Mastering Life Podcast, your host Paul Lowe interviews Bill Burridge from South Africa. Bill shares his high-level insights and own life purpose. Most people don’t know what their life purpose is. So ask yourself ‘what is YOUR purpose in life?’ Jim Britt, the coach and mentor of Tony Robbins says that your purpose is ‘what you are doing now’. Plain and simple. Bill thinks that without an understanding of what your purpose is, you will be driven by your needs. Learn how to put your life’s purpose at the centre of everything. Ask yourself, what is your purpose? What is your gift? What is the next step? and, what do you do now? This is where Life Coaches come in, to empower you to believe and live your life's purpose. Tune-in to this podcast to learn more about life's purpose and what you need to do after you learnt about it. KEY TAKEAWAYS What is your purpose? This is really difficult to answer most of the time. People blank out when asked this question. But Jim Britt says that is your purpose is what you are doing now. That is it. It is more about the here-and-now. Without an understanding of what your purpose is, you think to be driven by your needs. Your needs relate to the pressures to perform that society places on you. If you are trying to keep up with what the world expects of you, you lose complete track of what your inner voice is saying to you. You become a puppet on the string, dancing to the tune of the outside world rather than being driven inner voice or life purpose. What is your gift? People can recognize right away. They can uncover people’s purpose in life. Ultimately, if you find your life purpose and you start doing what it is that you want to do, you begin to radiate positivity. You start to contribute to the forward momentum of this world. Change process. You do not understand what I am going through. It is very different for one of us. The only way to move on is to accept responsibility for the situation that you are in. You have to stop the blame-game. The only person to help you is you. Life coaching requires tough love. Stepping Stones. I.N.S.I.G.H.T.S. is the process which New Insights use for life coaching: I – intention N – needs and balance S – self-awareness I – inner power G – growth H – higher purpose T – taking stock S – setting a new path BEST MOMENTS “I think, isn’t that just a symptom of the life we live now. We jump to judgments of people, about careers, about situations, and without really being well-informed very often.” “Your purpose is what you are doing now... It is more about the here-and-now.” “It doesn’t matter how long you are spending on the earth, how much money you have gathered, how much attention you have received. It is the amount of positive vibration you have radiated in life that really matters.” “Everything belongs somewhere; the stars belong to the sky, the waves to the ocean, the rain to the clouds, the wind to the trees, the mountains to the valleys. Everything has meaning and purpose. Some need to fill something to accomplish on earth.” “Surround yourself with people that really do care.” “History doesn’t define your future.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Paul's Mastering The Game of Life Book... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Speaking-our-Hearts-Mastering-game/dp/1781332819 Paul's Emerging From The Forest Book...Emerging From The Forest The Mastering Life Podcast... https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/mastering-life/id1421271122?mt=2 ABOUT THE HOST Something that’s never been attached to Paul is the label ‘normal’ – for which he is immensely proud. S1 Ep 9Louise Farr: The Power of Pets – And Purpose

In today’s episode of the Mastering Life Podcast, your host Paul Lowe interviews successful entrepreneur, business owner and public speaker, Louise Farr. Tune in today to hear Louise’s fascinating and emotional story, leaving us in no doubt about the power of pets and the unconditional love we can learn and begin to feature in our own lives. KEY TAKEAWAYS Whilst in Azerbaijan during the European games, Lou heard of an opportunity to help out with dogs during the winter months and for the remaining 14 months, every Saturday and every Sunday she went to build these kennels and help out at the shelter. Louise believes dogs take you out of yourself and instead of worrying and internalising, you can focus externally and take your mind off of your struggles. They bring out that protective nature and nurturing that humans have inside. Paul: Tell us about the young lady in your life? Lou: The story is, when I came to live in Peterborough I wanted to continue the work I was doing helping dogs in Azerbaijan, and because I have a business and worked for myself, I had the time to do so. This is where I met Rada and she was so scared due to how she’d been treated and over-time - after about two to three weeks - she warmed to me. She changed the direction of my life and helped me to tackle the outside world; she taught me to do things together and with others in order to achieve. Paul: With this new-found purpose, what are your hopes and dreams for the future? Lou: I’m growing my own business and I’m hoping to help people who just need a helping hand. I want to share how the shelter helped me. My dream and my legacy is building towards finding my place, somewhere in the countryside where I can house dogs and provide unconditional love for others. BEST MOMENTS “You can sit next to a dog and say nothing but 100,000 words have been said” “When I came back I knew I didn’t get a dog, but I needed to get involved, I knew this was part of my life's journey” “She has been my constant companion and got me through some tough times in the last couple of years, she’s been there by my side throughout” “I now have great empathy where I didn’t have before, she is the epitome of love, strength and kindness - all the powerful elements of human nature” “As humans, we need to learn how to love unconditionally” VALUABLE RESOURCES Paul's Mastering The Game of Life Book... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Speaking-our-Hearts-Mastering-game/dp/1781332819 Paul's Emerging From The Forest Book...Emerging From The Forest The Mastering Life Podcast... https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/mastering-life/id1421271122?mt=2 ABOUT THE HOST Something that’s never been attached to Paul is the label ‘normal’ – for which he is immensely proud. S1 Ep 8Jim Britt: Coaching & Mentoring - Insights From A World-leading Expert

In today’s episode of the Mastering Life Podcast, your host Paul Lowe interviews internationally-recognised leader, coach and mentor and author of 13 best-selling books, Jim Britt. Jim share tips from a lifetime worth of experience in the field of peak performance and personal empowerment; with Paul bringing you lessons from his own journey from Pain to Philanthropy. Paul and Jim discuss the difference between mentoring, coaching and therapy and how you too, can learn how to break your habitual cycle and overcome the ways you’ve set yourself in, to make a change and be a success. KEY TAKEAWAYS Paul: Who’s the most inspiring person you’ve ever met? Jim: One of my very close friends was Jim Rohn, he is one of the most influential people I’ve ever met. We were together in business for ten years and he helped me to get involved in the personal development world, and even Jim’s mentor Bill Bailey who I learnt a lot from at the age of 22. Paul: How did you end up on the road to becoming a peak performance and personal empowerment practitioner? Jim: I learnt that working hard, was not going to get me ahead in life. After several jobs entered into a business opportunity and loaned $4,000 from the bank. I lost everything. The only thing I didn’t lose is my determination, my willingness to succeed. I then got educated and someone helped me understand what to do, and how to do it. In my second year, I earnt almost $1million. That's when I met Jim Rohn, he invited me to join the seminar business, which evolved into speaking myself, I then developed my own philosophy and over a ten-year period Jim and I put nearly 10 million people through seminars, mainly in California. BEST MOMENTS “The one thing I got good at was talking to people, I just had to do it correctly” “Coaching is helping people to get breakthroughs in their life and holding them accountable on a daily, weekly or monthly basis to ensure they are successful” “We’re all set in our ways but our ways aren’t getting us to where we need to go. S1 Ep 7Overcoming The Loss of A Child, Adultery & Crippling Illness: Cherri Forsyth

Welcome to another episode of The Mastering Life Podcast. In today’s episode, your host Paul Lowe interviews Cherri Forsyth. Paul and Cherri discuss the challenges she has faced in her life and the lessons learnt along the way. Cherri shares her invaluable insights from health to healing and why the power of perseverance and being determined to never give up on something you truly believe in, is essential in life. Life's champions emerge because they’ve learnt to let go of the pain from the past, but not the lessons learnt. KEY TAKEAWAYS Paul: How did you ever survive without becoming lost? Cherri: It’s a question I’ve thought about a lot and it’s a choice that you make, a choice to deal with the hardships and lessons from it, and not letting it overpower you. It’s a tough journey, but collectively as a family, we made a decision to overcome it and carry on living, a good life Paul: Whilst you were ‘down on the canvas’ life dealt you another sickening blow Cherri: Yes, I think of it like an earthquake; the aftershock of our marriage and the fact that my husband Mike could not deal with the loss of our daughter Kerry, emotionally; he didn’t know how to act and how to behave. He became excessively angry and volatile and I had to call on my resilience to get through it. Initially I put my own grief journey on hold so I could focus all of my efforts on our own relationship, I made the mistake of trying to walk Mike’s journey for him. BEST MOMENTS “Collectively as a family, we made a conscious decision to overcome the pain and suffering” “I now had to adjust to a new normal but it was very empty and very heartbreaking” “I really honour my husband in being able to speak about this.” “Mike and I are very happily married and we’ve worked through all of the traumas and the betrayals, It was hard enough to lose a child and then my soul mate. But to not give up and to continue to love my husband, we needed to find a way to heal first himself and then our marriage. We are in now a much more honest marriage.” “When hardship comes it’s a challenge you need to learn about, battle and be weathered by. As your soul is weathered more with each successive hardship” VALUABLE RESOURCES Speaking From Our HEARTS (Paul's Book): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Speaking-our-Hearts-Mastering-game/dp/1781332819 Emerging From The Forest (Paul's Book): Paul Lowe - ‘Emerging From The Forest’ http://www.paullowehearts.com/ ABOUT THE HOST Something that’s never been attached to Paul is the label ‘normal’ – for which he is immensely proud. S1 Ep 3Beliefs: Do Fish Climb Trees?

Challenge your belief system and ask yourself... 'Do fish climb trees?' In today’s episode, your host Paul Lowe describes his own journey from Pain to Philanthropy and how he learned first-hand that your beliefs and truths are simply based on your awareness at that given time; so ask yourself has your belief system really been put to the test? Paul explains that anything in life can become a belief, positive or negative. Environment, education, past outcomes, events in life and creative thinking impact on our changing beliefs. Finally, learn how to 'Let It Go'. Let go of past experiences that don't serve you - but not the lessons learned - creating space in your minds and embracing new, positive concepts, to form better self-serving beliefs. KEY TAKEAWAYS Long-term transformations emerge as a result of creating new and empowering beliefs based on deep-rooted inspiration. Understand your own belief system and find your true core self; it’s a case of establishing what beliefs will empower us in pursuit of our goals and then seeking experience in our life to support our belief. Our thoughts and words massively influence our beliefs. So make sure you reaffirm positive words about yourself and understand the difference in the positive and negative. You’ll become strong when you use strong words and weak when you use weak words. Our mind does what we tell it to do. Constantly tell your mind to do different things and you’ll be more successful. Understand that in essence Awareness, precedes Beliefs and Beliefs precede Creativity. It’s as simple as ABC - creative thinking provides the most power to serve us. BEST MOMENTS “I firmly believe that motivation is superficial and only offers short-term change” “None of us are broken - we don’t need fixing, all we need to do is continuously work towards a better version of ourselves” “Our exceptional performances of yesterday will barely suffice for today and won’t be good enough for tomorrow” VALUABLE RESOURCES Speaking From Our HEARTS (Paul's Book): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Speaking-our-Hearts-Mastering-game/dp/1781332819 Emerging From The Forest (Paul's Book): Paul Lowe - ‘Emerging From The Forest’ http://www.paullowehearts.com/ ABOUT THE HOST Something that’s never been attached to Paul is the label ‘normal’ – for which he is immensely proud. S1 Ep 5Anthony Robbins's Six Human Needs: My Journey From Pain To Philanthropy

Paul discusses the many schools of thought on human needs and takes inspiration from Anthony Robbins's ‘Six Human Needs’ model. Paul explains the powerful nature of the Six Human Needs and how they impact on our lives, by sharing his own journey from Pain to Philanthropy and how each need has played a significant role in his life - both positively and negatively. In a world of emotional instability, Paul felt vulnerable and insecure and as a result, turned to the dominant factor in his life - the demon drink. Hear how he had created an aler-ego and created a black or white all-or-nothing mindset. Quote: “It’s easy to see how the booze at the time met all of my human needs both directly and indirectly. This created a very addictive pattern of behavior. Significance, growth, and contribution, however, were all met through sobriety. Finally, Paul rounds out the episode with a quick exercise to help you identify your own human needs. KEY TAKEAWAYS Anthony Robbins - Six Human Needs We all have four primitive needs that need to be met, before having two higher or spiritual needs we can work towards. Certainty Uncertainty (Variety) Significance Love & Connection Growth Contribution Remember these three things: Human needs are not maybes, wants, likes or loves, these are must-haves in our lives and we will do anything to ensure our needs are met. Having looked at values and rules in a previous podcast, it’s evident that we will violate our values in order to ensure our human needs are met. Most of us have two top needs that act as our key drivers, these create a variety of people. BEST MOMENTS “If three of our needs are met with a rating of six or above (10 meaning completely) - we would become addicted to that behavior” “The third human need of significance, the human need to feel special I attempted to gain significance through charitable endeavours on a large scale” “The highest human need of contribution is about giving to people other than ourselves” VALUABLE RESOURCES Speaking From Our HEARTS (Paul's Book): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Speaking-our-Hearts-Mastering-game/dp/1781332819 Emerging From The Forest (Paul's Book): Paul Lowe - ‘Emerging From The Forest’ (#001) Mastering Life: As Simple As ABC (Podcast) Paul Lowe - A Question Of Bottle (poem) The Three Pillars Of Life Model http://www.paullowehearts.com/ ABOUT THE HOST Something that’s never been attached to Paul is the label ‘normal’ – for which he is immensely proud. S1 Ep 4Values & Rules: Insights With John Batterby

In today’s episode of the Mastering Life Podcast, Paul discusses values and rules and shares his own experience of almost joining the Royal Marines; fulfilling his sense of purpose to serve and protect. Paul describes his inspiring - yet self-destructive - journey; as well as his confusion around his own identity. For Paul’s, all-or-nothing mindset, words were simply not enough as he chased his unreachable value of love. Paul interviews John Batterby, as they compare their own values and goals; whilst aiming for the same goal (love), their outcomes were completely different. KEY TAKEAWAYS Due to Paul’s precarious upbringing, he craved the reassurance of love, simply being told he was loved, was not enough How do your values influence your life? Think of a positive value to move towards Think of a negative moving away value Ask yourself, is there any conflict here, if not continue to focus on what you want Become aware of your rules around achieving your values Is this rule, making your value easy or hard to attain? If it makes it hard, you have the awareness to simply change your rule BEST MOMENTS “I wanted to fight for others, those that couldn’t fight for themselves, rationalizing this is the legacy of my early unjust challenges. In my mind, the Royal Marines was the perfect answer and I was given the opportunity to join.” “At heart, I was a naturally a caring and sensitive person. This fitted well in the true warrior inside of myself” “I was living a black and white polarizing existence, with darkness becoming ever more frequent.
