Matt and Steve are talking about this week in sports updates, including: The Riverhounds have games at Indy Eleven and FC Cincy. The PGA Tour stopped in Paramus NJ at Ridgewood Championship Course. Bryson DeChambeau took the win in the first of 4 playoff tournaments in the FedEx Cup. Bryson was leading after Day 2 and just kept it rolling throughout the whole weekend. The PGA continues to TPC Boston for the second leg of the FedEx Cup Playoff. DeChambeau is leading by 648 points over DJ, Thomas, Finau, and Koepka. Ricky Fowler will be out due to an oblique injury. Tony Romo will try to earn a web.com tour card. Hawaii wins the Little League World Series over South Korea in a 3-0 shutout. South Korea has played in 3 of the past 6 Little League World Series Championship Games, winning only one in 2014. Justin Verlander had a hefty lunch bill at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Odell Beckham, Jr has a 5-year $95 million deal with $65 million guaranteed. The AL West and the NL West are the most exciting divisions in MLB right now. The A’s and the Astros are playing a series that could be a big swing in the division. The NL West is all within a game in the top 3 and they all play each other in the next few weeks. The Pirates are all out of any division and wild card options. The moves made bringing in Chris Archer will be better for the next few seasons but are not going to help now. Archer pitches well, but he hasn't received run support. Again, the Pirates fail and Nutting wins by lining his wallet. NCAA Football is back! Albany comes to Pitt. Appalachian State goes to PSU. WVU goes to Tennessee. Michigan goes to Notre Dame. The Steelers had a bit of a scare in the 3rd pre-season game with the Titans in town. Ramon Foster had a knee injury and the first thought was it was career-ending. Thankfully Foster's knee injury looked worse than it is and he should be able to go week one. The Steelers traded a 5th round 2019 pick to the Raiders for WR and KR Ryan Switzer and a 6th round pick in 2019. The return game is in dire straits and needs help. The QB position and WR position are the ones to watch in Steelers Camp. The 53-man roster deadline is Sunday at midnight. Our overall predictions and thoughts. Matt and Steve are talking about this week in sports updates, including: The Riverhounds had a Nil-Nil draw with the Charlotte Independence. Goaltending and defense kept the Riverhounds in the game. Good news, there are no real lowlights but there weren't a lot of highlights to speak of. The Riverhounds took on the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Brandt Sneaker won the PGA Wyndham Championship with a -21 for the tournament. Brandt started the PGA Wyndham Championship with that magical 59. He started with a bogey and finishing with a 20 ft birdie on hole 18 for 11 under par in round one. This week the PGA Tour heads to Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus NJ for the Northern Trust Open. All the big names are in for the Northern Trust Open as it is a FedEx Cup Playoff tournament. Sister Mary Jo is a curveball sleeper. Big Al hits dingers. WPIAL Football starts. Cutch put on waivers. Pirates dropped 2 of 4 to the Cubs and 2 to the Braves. Pirates offense has come to a halt it seems like, and the defense has opened up some hole. It's time to bring up some guys in the minors and see what they have. The Boston Red Sox had a bit of skid, but are still 8.5 games ahead of the Yankees in the AL East. The Indians are 13 games up in the AL Central. The A’s and Astros are tied in the AL West. In the NL, the Braves are 1.5 games up in the Phillies in the east. The Cubs are 2.5 games up on the Brewers. The Diamondbacks are .5 games up on the Rockies. NCAA Football starts. NCAA Football has already seen lots of warm up games, with very few actual competitive match ups. Pitt's Kenny Pickett is named starter for the season in his Sophomore year. WVU Football QB, Will Grier, has already been named as a first team All-American. Kenny Pickett is a Heisman hopeful for this season. PSU QB, Trace McSorley, was named second team All-American. McSorley could also be in the Heisman hunt. In Steelers news, Ben will play week 3 of pre-season. It looks as though the Steelers will be playing AB and all starters for at least the 1st quarter for pre-season games. The 3rd pre-season game is the one that is used as real game prep and game plan analysis. Please don't get hurt! The 100th PGA Championship saw Brooks Koepka taking the win by 2 strokes. Brooks Koepka held off a charging Tiger the final 2 days at Bellerive. The PGA heads to Sedgefield CC in Greensboro NC for the Wyndham Championship. Tiger is in talks to be on the Ryder Cup team that will be held in France September 28-30. Cleveland Browns Beer Machine. Cutch’s video. Pirates split the series in SF and come home to split with the Twins. Archer seems to be good, but isn't getting run support. Fantasy Football is back! After the second pre-season game in Green Bay the Steelers will no longer be at St Vincent. Steelers break camp still with cuts to be made to get down to the 53-man roster. Juju is not looking to have a sophomore slump but to have a break out year. Mason Rudolph is looking to make a bid for the 2nd back up. The Riverhounds had 58% of the possession time with 9 shots and 4 on target. The Riverhounds head east to take on the Bethlehem Steel. The Riverhounds have moved back into second in the group. The Riverhounds are 21mp, 11W, 7D, 3L, 40Pt, 26GF, 10GA, 16GD. The PGA is at Bellerive outside St Louis for the 100th PGA Championship. Big Favorites are Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Spieth, Mcllroy, Adam Scott, Ricky Fowler. The 9:23 group for the PGA Championship is Tiger, Thomas, and McIlroy. This sets up a big point gain for the Fedex cup. Stan Mikita passed at 78yrs old. Stan Mikita was 14th all-time in points, 18th in assists, 31st in goals, and 40th in games played. Stan Mikita was a multiple Art Ross, Heart, Lady Byng winner, 1961 Stanley Cup Champion. Stan Mikita had multiple All-Star Seasons. Stan Mikita is ranked number 17 of top 100 in NHL. Stan Mikita retired in 1980, has his number 21 retired by the Blackhawks, and has a statue. Pirates acquired Adeiny Hechavarria SS from the Rays to sure up the middle infield . The Pirates are out west a bit to finish up with the Rockies and then head to the Bay to take on the Giants. Then it's back home to have 2 with the Twins, 4 with the Cubs, and 3 with the Braves before heading back out on the road. Archer is under contract through 2021 costing $27.7 Million total which is right around $8 Million a season. Kela is under contract through 2020 at $1.2 Million. Kela will be a closer this season with 38GP, 3 W, 3 L, and 24 S 3.44 ERA Dodgers: Manny Machado and Brian Dozier Brewers: Mike Moustakas Astros: Roberto Osuna (suspended) P 75 game for domestic charges. The Riverhounds took two losses in a row before a win with the Richmond kickers in town. Nico Brett had two goals and Fitzpatrick also came in with a goal. The Hounds are in 3rd with 20 MP, 37 Points, 25 GF, 10GA. The Hounds have TFCII coming to town. In PGA Tour news, The Open Championship came and went with Francisco Molinari as the First Italian to win. Some big names were in it until the end, but Molinari was too good. DJ won the Canadian Open that finished on Monday due to weather. It was his 3rd win this season and 19th overall. It's the Firestone CC on the South Course in Akron OH. NFL Hall of Fame inductees have been named: Bobby Beathard Contributor, Robert Brazile LB, Brian Dawkins S, Jerry Kramer LB, Ray Lewis LB, Randy Moss WR, Terrell Owens WR, and Brian Urlacher. The Hall of Fame game will be held on Thursday Night Football on the NFL Network with the Bears and the Ravens. Urban Meyer is placed on paid administrative leave after rumblings that he knew about the domestic abuse that an assistant coach Zach Smith has against him. While Meyer is on leave, OC Ryan Day is acting head coach. Malkin is celebrating his 32nd birthday, and Crosby turns 31. How long do we see them playing? The Pirates were HOT HOT HOT but have cooled a bit. They're not yet cold. Errors caused the 9-2 loss to the Cubs who newly acquired Cole Hammels who was on the hill. Steelers Camp is underway. The guys are working hard at St Vincents and putting in work. AB, Villanuva left practice early with soreness but is expected to be fine.
