On the 62nd Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, singer, guitarist and bassist from the Ace Frehley Band, Gene Simmons Band and also Rock City Machine Co, Ryan Spencer Cook, review the 1968 legendary album from Elvis Presley, "NBC TV Special" or better known as the "1968 Comeback Special." By 1968 Elvis had not performed live since 1960. Although, his movie career had been a tremendous success, even making him the highest paid actor in Hollywood, Elvis was not satisfied creatively. His music had been basically soundtracks to his movies and Elvis was frustrated. Since Elvis rocket stardom was born out of his legendary television performance, Elvis and along with young television producer Steve Binder, created a TV Special that would become affectionately known as the 1968 Comeback Special. Ignoring his manager Colonel Tom Parker's insistence that the TV Special be a Christmas theme event, Elvis & Steve Binder created a TV Special that would end up being the highest rated tv show of the year gaining 42% of the television audience. This special brought the KING back! The television special including various types of performances. Elvis performed some of his greatest hits, sometimes alone, sometimes with his original band in an intimate round setting, sometimes in sketches and even with dancers and gospel singers. The songs were varied and styles as well, matching Elvis' versatile appeal. The audience was young and attractive and Elvis wore various outfits, including the leather outfit which has become legendary and synonymous with this performance. Elvis never looked as good or sounded as good as well. The album went to number 8 on US Billboard charts and eventually platinum. There are numerous variations of this album and special releases that include a lot of the songs not featured in the television special. But all versions, include his incredible medley of Trouble / Guitar Man and the medley of his biggest hits like Love Me Tender, Hound Dog, Heartbreak Hotel, All Shook up and more. The album does include his single, If I Can Dream, which may be Elvis' greatest performance of all time. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was obviously Zeus' pick. This week Tom & Zeus review KISS' 2007 "Hit 'n Run Tour" which although small was very unique. This is SIOL's 10th KISS tour reviewed. This tour was only 6 dates. However, it includes one of the most unique KISS concerts of all time, the time played as a trio and without Paul Stanley. KISS was now Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer. This was beginning of KISS as a legacy act. Kiss was doing corporate gigs, casinos and other unique shows. None more so than the show at Soboba Casino in California, where Paul Stanley had a health scare. Due to this the band was forced to play as a trio. On the 61st Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, the producer of Ace Frehley's "10,000 Volts" and founder, guitarist and songwriter of Trixter, and a former Def Leppard touring member, Steve Brown review the 1981 breakthrough album from Def Leppard, "High 'n' Dry." High 'n' Dry was Def Leppard's second studio album. This was the band's first collaboration with legendary producer, Robert John "Mutt" Lange. They would form a partnership like no other and dominate the hard rock scene. High 'n' Dry was Def Leppard at its hungriest. Led by the underrated lead singer, Joe Elliott, two guitar attack from Steve Clark and Pete Willis (this would be his last full time album), and rhythm section of Rick Savage on bass and Rick Allen on drums. The band broke through in American with their melodic rock songs and videos, which were all over early MTV. The album went to number 38 on US Billboard charts and eventually double platinum. Led by songs like Let It Go and High 'N' Dry (Saturday Night) and their breakthrough hit Bringin' On The Heartbreak, Def Leppard was heading for superstardom. This week Tom & Zeus review the 2005 double CD KISS Compilation album, KISS Gold. This SIOL's 11th compilation review. This 2 CD compilation is part of the Gold collection album that features many different artists. This compilation covers songs from 1974 - 1982, containing 40 songs with each CD containing 20 songs. The album cover is great and the CD contains photos and a retrospective as well. The guys breakdown the track selection and then rank the compilation album and cover versus the previous reviewed compilation albums. Tune in to see what song that was selected baffles the guys. This week Tom & Zeus open Shout It Out Loudcast's Season 7 by reviewing the 1977 legendary live album, KISS Alive II! KISS was perhaps at highest peak in 1977, commercially and musically. They decided to follow the same formula as they did previously. So after Alive, they released three more studio album and now they wanted to release their second live album, KISS Alive II! This live album would not have any songs from the previous live album, so KISS Alive II would not be an actual real concert. The new songs from Destroyer, Rock And Roll Over & Love Gun would only make up 3 sides, so the band decided to add 5 new tracks to complete the double album. The cover of KISS Alive II is known for the images of the band members, the inserts and perhaps the greatest gatefold in vinyl history. For many in the KISS Army this album was the album that solidified their KISS fandom. Fans are often split between Alive vs Alive II. This is SIOL's 10th live album review. On the 60th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, comic, musician from the Ace Frehley Tribute Band, "Ack!" and host of the podcast, Another FN Podcast, Izzy Presley, to review the 1987 breakthrough album from The Cult, "Electric." Electric was The Cult's third studio album. The band recorded twelve new tracks for album to be tentatively called Peace. When they brought the album to legendary Hip-Hop producer, Rick Rubin, they decided to re-record the songs with Rub at the helm. What they came up with is a whole new sound for the band. Rubin took advantage of the band's talent and created a sound which would become their signature. The band went from goth rock to hard rock. A stripped down ACDC type of music led by charismatic frontman, Ian Astbury with his unique vocals, blistering guitar riffs by guitarist Billy Duffy and a rhythm section of Jamie Stewart on bass and Les Warner killing it on drums. The lyrics were written by Astbury & Duffy with the exception of the cover song. The album went to number 38 on US Billboard charts and eventually platinum. Songs like Wild Flower, Lil' Devil and Love Removal Machine have become rock radio staples and this album broke The Cult in the US and onto more mainstream success. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. On the 59th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, Steve Wright from the Podder Than Hell Podcast, review the 1985 album from Bon Jovi, "7800 Fahrenheit." 7800 Fahrenheit is Bon Jovi's second studio album. The young band continued the same basic formula as their debut album. The band was led by charismatic frontman Jon Bon Jovi who was the primary songwriter. Richie Sambora the guitarist also helped write songs with Jon and you could see the beginnings of this legendary duo. David Bryan on keyboards also helped with a few songs. Alec John Such and Tico Torres rounded out the rhythm section. The album was produced by Lance Quinn. The album continued where their debut left off, with some rockers, mid-tempo songs and a ballad. Jon continued his hard working ways to craft an album in between consecutive non stop tours. 7800 Fahrenheit is a polarizing album often panned by Jon, but loved by the fans, especially songs like, In And Out Of Love & Tokyo Road. The album did go platinum and features 3 MTV Videos. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was Zeus' pick. This week Tom & Zeus celebrate their 300th episode with their review of the 1976 legendary album from KISS, "Destroyer!" This was KISS' 4th studio album and the 24th and LAST KISS studio album reviewed by SIOL. KISS was riding high after their live album "Alive" broke through and went gold. The power and energy of a live KISS show was the missing ingredient to get KISS their big break. Not wanting to rest on their recent success, the band brought producer Bob Ezrin from Alice Cooper fame in to help them "get to the next level." Ezrin was like no producer KISS ever had before or since. Bringing the best out of the members and co-writing 7 of the 9 tracks, Ezrin's fingerprints were all over Destroyer. Destroyer was very different then the previous raw three albums. This album had choirs, ghost players, a ballad, orchestras and even a calliope. The final result was KISS most commercial, critically acclaimed and perhaps polarizing album. The album features some of KISS most legendary songs, including, Detroit Rock City, God Of Thunder, Shout It Out Loud, Beth and more. As usual the guys breakdown and analyze the tracks and rank the songs SIOL style. As always, they then compare the album and album cover and rank it against the previous studio albums reviewed. On the 58th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, Brad Rusthoven from the Slamfest Podcast, review the 1990 debut album from Mother Love Bone, "Apple." Mother Love Bone has legendary status amongst grunge fans. The band was formed in Seattle from another legendary early grunge band, Green River. The band was led by charismatic frontman and main songwriter, Andrew Wood. Guitarist Stone Gossard of Green River and latter Pearl Jam on rhythm and lead guitar and Bruce Fairweather on lead and rhythm guitar as well. Jeff Ament previously of Green River and later of Pearl Jam fame on bass and Greg Gilmore on drums. The album was a mixture of alt rock, glam metal and future grunge. Hard hitting lyrics which also showed a lighter and more fun side of the "Seattle Sound." Mother Love Bone was one of the earliest Seattle bands to be destined for greatness with their debut album coming on a major label. However, Andrew Wood's death from heroin overdose on March 19, 1990 was tragic end of this upcoming band. The album was released a few months later on July 19, 1990. A tribute album/band, Temple Of The Dog further created the legend of Mother Love Bone as did the breakout of Pearl Jam shortly thereafter. His portrayal of James Evans, Sr. on the 1970's hit Good Times made him one of the greatest, if not the greatest TV dad in history. He brought a realism and a positive father figure to an audience who had seldom seen such positive role models. He had a long career with many memorable roles including Cleo McDowell on Coming To America, Admiral Percy Fitzwallace on the West Wing and Kunta Kinte on Roots. This week Tom Zeus review the legendary 1975 appearance by KISS on the T.V. show The Midnight Special. The Midnight Special was a late night musical variety show that ran on NBC from 1973 to 1981 after the Tonight Show on Friday nights, starting at 1:00 AM. KISS recorded four songs on April 1, 1975 just after they released Dressed To Kill. They performed 4 songs, Deuce, C'mon And Love Me (which never aired), She and Black Diamond. This legendary performance is KISS at its early inception. Hungry, raw and dangerous. Their look and performance can only be described as jaw dropping. The guys breakdown the appearance in SIOL fashion. The guys then rank this KISS TV appearance against the previous KISS TV appearances they have reviewed so far. On the 57th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, lead guitarist and songwriter from the band Restrayned, Tony Musallam review the 1984 self titled debut album from W.A.S.P.. W.A.S.P's debut album came two years after the band was formed. The Los Angeles based band was founded by lead singer, songwriter and bassist, Blackie Lawless. Blackie was a veteran of L.A. scene. Chris Holmes, who later became famous for his appearance in "Decline Of The Western Civilization II: The Metal Years", was the lead guitarist and rhythm guitarist along with Randy Piper. The drummer was Tony Richards. W.A.S.P. had become a target of the Parents Music Resource Center "PMRC" and their lead single "Animal (Fuck Like A Beast)" was taken off their debut album by their label for fear of backlash. The album featured hard rock, metal and shock rock as well. Blackie's trademark vocals and shock themes separated W.A.S.P. from a lot of the other L.A. bands. The band had a couple of videos as well to promote their shock rock image. The album made it to Number 74 on the US Billboard charts and went gold. The album was produced by Blackie Lawless and Mike Varney. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was Shout It Out Loudcast's Patreon pick.
