This week Tom & Zeus breakdown KISS' 1977 appearance on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. Don Kirshner was a producer of ABC In Concert. He left and created his own syndicated show, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. KISS performed on ABC In Concert previously in 1974 so it was natural for them to also go onto Don Kirshner's Rock Concert in 1977. The band performed three videos for songs off of their most recent album, Rock And Roll Over. These were early forms of videos pre-MTV for I Want You, Hard Luck Woman and Love 'Em And Leave 'Em. These performances were with the Spirit of 76 costumes and stage. The band may have been at its greatest height at this time. On the 41st Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & Sonny review the 1988 self titled debut album, "BulletBoys" BulletBoys were led by trio of ex-King Kobra members, guitarist Mick Sweda, bassist Lonnie Vencent and lead singer, Marq Torien. The band added drummer Jimmy D'Anda. The band drew a lot comparison to Van Halen, due to them signing with Warner Brothers, their first album being produced by legendary Van Halen producer, Ted Templeman and the lead singer Marq Torien's style which resembled David Lee Roth. The Van Halen influence along with ACDC was evident as well in the music. The debut album led by singles, Smooth Up In Ya and For The Love Of Money, which were heavily played on MTV pushed the album to gold status. Torien's unique look and style and his amazing voice also brought attention to the band. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 39 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This tour was a for the new album, "Lick It Up", which was the first KISS album without makeup. The album also was the one and only album where guitarist Vinnie Vincent is listed as an actual band member. The tour began in Europe and continued in United States and Canada. Despite the new look and a killer album, ticket sales were at the lowest point since KISS' inception, averaging slightly more than 5,000 a night. Spinning Gold was released March 31, 2023 in movie theaters across the country. Its the touching story of Casablanca records founder Neil Bogart. Neil has always been a huge part of KISStory. Neil was a young succesful record executive when he opened up Casablanca records in 1974. KISS was the first act signed by Neil and Casablanca. Therefore, the movie does have many KISS moments even though its not a movie about KISS. The guys discuss the KISS parts of the movie and breakdown the movie as a whole SIOL style. They breakdown the "Beth" segment as well and that Donna Summer scene. This live album was recorded during the Animalize tour which featured a non makeup KISS. This is the 5th Off The Soundboard release by KISS and this one is very unique. It is the first official live album featuring beloved KISS drummer, the late great Eric Carr. This also featured short term KISS member, Mark St. John. Mark only played a couple live shows due to his unique illness. This is supposedly the only soundboard recording of his playing with KISS. He would be replaced again by Bruce Kulick. On the 40th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & Sonny review the 1981 rock album "Don't Say No" by solo artist, Billy Squier. The album went all the way up to #5 on Billboard's album charts. It produced 3 Top 45 hits and the album went triple platinum and remained on the charts for two years. It was the early days of MTV and Don't Say No was made for it. Squier's song were all over MTV back then. This was Billy Squier's 2nd studio album. His band was highlighted by the hard hitting drummer, Bobby Chouinard, lead guitarist Cary Sharaf, Alan St. Jon on keyboards and Mark Clarke on bass. Billy provided the amazing vocals and rhythm guitar. The album was produced by Reinhold Mack & Billy Squier. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. On the 39th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & Sonny review the 1988 concept album by Queensryche, "Operation: Mindcrime." This was Queensryche's 3rd studio album. Lead singer, Geoff Tate cam up with the idea of the concept album after living in Canada and then convinced guitarist, Chris DeGarmo who then got the rest of the band interested. The story is about a man named, Nikki who gets involved in political assassinations, drugs and revolutions. The band was led by vocalist Geoff Tate and his unique look and incredible vocal range. The dual guitar attack of Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton and rhythm section of bassist, Eddie Jackson and drummer, Scott Rockenfield provide the unique Queensryche sound. The album was produced by Peter Collins and showed that Queensryche although wrongly lumped in with hair metal bands of that era, was something original and had something to say. . As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 35 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. The band had yet to break in the United States. However, the band at this time was continuing to grow in the UK. This album made it to Number 2 on the charts in the United Kingdom and went Gold there. The band was led by the one and only, the charasmatic David Coverdale on vocals. The legendary two headed guitar attack of Whitesnake at this time was Bernie Marsden & Micky Moody. Longtime Whitesnake member, Neil Murray was on bass and the legendary Deep Purple members, drummer Ian Paice and legendary keyboard player Jon Lord filled out this incredible lineup. The record was once again produced by Martin Birch. This is Birch's 3rd album reviewed on ARC. The album was filled with British blues numbers, rockers and Coverdale's naughty lyrics. The album cover is another Whitesnake classic. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. This week Tom & Zeus review the 1974 KISS album, "Hotter Than Hell.” This was KISS' 2nd studio album and the 19th KISS studio album reviewed by SIOL. Produced by the same two producers of the debut album a few months earlier, Kenny Kerner & Richie Wise, Hotter Than Hell was the first album that KISS did not have all the songs ready to go. Some of the songs were left overs from the previous album and also Wicked Lester, but some were created for this specific album. The album features a still hungry bad with contributions from all members. Of the ten songs, only three were sung by Paul Stanley. Ace Frehley had three writing credits, Peter Criss sang two songs and Gene Simmons sang 5 songs! The album was darker and heavier than the debut album and is noted for its tough sounding production. Many of the songs became KISS concert staples, such as Parasite, Let Me Go, Rock 'N' Roll, Hotter Than Hell and more. A couple of KISS' best deep cuts are also on the album. The album cover by John Van Hamersveld features a Japanese theme and photos from the legendary photo shoot by Norman Seeff. As usual the guys breakdown and analyze the tracks and rank the songs SIOL style. As always, they then compare the album and album cover and rank it against the previous studio albums reviewed. On the 37th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & Sonny review the self-titled debut album of The Winery Dogs. The Winery Dogs is a hard rock supergroup with Richie Kotzen as the lead singer and lead guitarist, Billy Sheehan as the bassist and Mike Portnoy as the drummer. Each member is an excellent musician and considered a top player on their instrument. Their debut album features thirteen songs with a ton of influences. Each member shines on all the songs. However, Kotzen's soulful vocals may shine the brightest on the album. The lyrics which are credited to The Winery Dogs, talk of love, loss, mistakes, redemption and hope. The album was produced by the Winery Dogs and was released on May 13, 2013 and did make the Top 30 on Billboard 200 charts. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 35 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was Sonny's pick and new to both Tom & Zeus.
