They fade out after a few episodes and eventually stop releasing new content.Tim never faced this challenge. He loves interviewing people and having the opportunity to ask and learn new things. For him, there is no shortage of things to talk about.His biggest challenge is that he's a generalist. He wants to avoid narrowing down his audience, making discoverability a challenge.[06:59] Tim, Live on AirTim would love to do a live TV show.There have been times when they've prepared to start a live show but have yet to do one.Tim and Glori are taking their time to pause before truly going live.[08:15] Tim’s Favorite EpisodesAn episode close to Tim's heart is the very first episode. Here, Alex was blessed to play in front of thousands of people.An idol is anything that takes the worship or admiration of God. You might see some of the most intense worship in football games.Unfortunately, there’s a temptation in sports and in other possible idols to build your identity on them.As a player, people will place an identity on you. You might find yourself attaching your value and self-worth to something as fickle as other people’s opinions.Alex learned from Scripture that we could defeat this temptation by relying on the truth written in the Bible. Women have more pressure around appearances compared to men. [17:19] We’re All Biased GitHub, a software repository, anonymized data and found that women's software gets accepted 4% more often than men's. However, when they don’t anonymize the data, the acceptance rate for women is less than 50%. Throughout history, white men have been steeped in business and politics while women focus on family and society. Not only that, most women carry the bulk of familial responsibilities. When women want to build a career, they need the flexibility to juggle their job and home responsibilities. Not all systems can offer that.[26:39] Learning More About CocoCoco was born in Malaysia. Her father is a professor at the University of Malaysia, while her mother was a social worker. Her father was researching cocoa beans as a commodity and thought it would be fun to name her after them. Coco's experience with her name had been a mix of positives and negatives. On the one hand, it's a memorable name. Today, however, he is leaning toward rest and peace.He used to be proud of his ability to work long hours while sleeping only 3 to 4 hours per night.When the recession hit in 2008, he began to reconsider his life choices.[24:56] The Challenges of Hustle Culture The hustle culture is about the self—you don't get to trust others.Starting your day early does not ensure you will make the most of it. Prioritize getting adequate rest instead. Maintain constant peace and rest. They are still anticipating God's plan.[22:27] God’s PlanThe Lord may call us to do something we believe is impossible but is actually doable.Be flexible and listen to God’s plan. Don’t lose hope. He started his lawn mowing business in 2009, and it was thriving by 2012.Hiring good people and leveraging their skills enabled their team to do good work. For him, it was fun to grow the business and make people happy with their service.In the past, Sam’s family went bankrupt. He became wary of the risks and possibility of failure in life.Sam started losing energy and passion to work. Secular or “icky, worldly stuff” doesn’t fall under this category.People push themselves into a mold not meant for them because of this flawed dichotomy.Many think that full-time Christian ministry means becoming a pastor or a missionary.However, starting a business and glorifying God through the products you create and people you serve is also full-time ministry.[18:10] Answering God’s CallIf all we had was the New Testament to build and model our church after, would our churches look anything like they look today?Having a full-time pastor encourages the body of Christ to sit back and simply become consumers.It’s not a pastor’s job to do all the work of the church.Depending on just one stream of income could also hold pastors back in their ministry.[18:27] “Your calling can look like a lot of different things in different seasons of life.” - Click Here To Tweet This[25:36] Challenges in the ChurchThe first challenge is the financial struggle for pastors.The second challenge is how most churches are structured after human forms of government.Bringing human politics into the church inhibits a pastor’s leadership.It takes an act of congress to rewrite bylaws and enforce healthier leadership structures.[29:33] Breaking Free from the Scarcity GospelThe idea that the more broke you are, the closer you are to God is false.There’s no shame in making good money. When He ascended to heaven, He left the Holy Spirit to guide us.Even non-followers of Christ would acknowledge the impact of Jesus’s words and actions on our culture and society.[05:33] “Even if you are not a follower of Christ... there is no one that really compares to what Jesus Christ did, and so we can at least try to learn from him.” - Click Here To Tweet This[05:53] The Three Big Categories of How Jesus CommunicatedOver time, Tim has identified trends and categorizations from reading and studying about Jesus.Even if we can’t do exactly as He did, we can still learn a lot from studying Him.These three big categories are the attitude Jesus had, the audience He identified with, and authority.[07:26] #1: Attitude in InteractionsJesus adopted an attitude of love and compassion even when He was speaking harshly or strongly.Love involves a lot of empathy and compassion, but it’s also correcting people when needed.Love is focused and intentional.It’s powerful to get on people’s level when we interact with them.We need to communicate with love and compassion, but we also need to be direct and to the point.[09:43] “Love is actually being very intentional and very focused.” - Click Here To Tweet This[10:40] #2: Jesus and His AudiencesFirst, He interacted with the sheep as a shepherd whose role was to lead and guide.Second, He interacted with the wolves — the Pharisees and hypocrites — and protected the sheep against them.In modern times, there are still a lot of wolves in religion and politics.The third group Jesus interacted with was His disciples. His role was to teach, educate, and encourage — to duplicate himself.[12:58] What We Can Learn from Jesus and How He CommunicatesWith the sheep: Tim used Jesus’s encounter with the woman at the well as an example. The world needs more of the “woman at the well” language, filled with love and compassion.With the wolves: Jesus used stories and parables founded on truth in a very firm tone.Many leaders often confuse the “woman at the well” language and wolf language. You can see people in power use wolf language with the sheep, sometimes to take advantage of them.With His disciples: Jesus used soft and gentle language similar to the woman at the well. There were also times when He had to be firm with them.The biggest learning point from Jesus’s interactions with His disciples is to spend a lot of time with the people you’re teaching.[17:14] "One of the best things we can learn about communication . . . is it takes time. Back then, she didn’t truly grow up in church, nor did she realize what it meant to live for God.Shayna didn’t seek God for herself until her 20s. It wasn’t until her early 30s that she started living according to the Word.At that time, she realized that she didn’t give her all on the most important part of her life — her walk with God.When Shayna was called to the ministry, she was shocked and hesitant. She didn’t grow up in church and felt unqualified for the role.[14:44] Shayna’s God ShiftShayna knew that every spiritual principle has an application. When she started seeking God, she applied what she learned from the Word to her life.Similarly, Tim started seeking God by regularly reading a chapter from Proverbs.Too often, people sit back and let God do everything because of His power and control.However, you also have a role to play in your relationship with God.Shayna found that her mouth was her most powerful weapon.
