The Seahawks will complete the process of bringing in up to 30 draft picks to Seattle next week. Of the reported names who have visited so far, who do we like? Are there any we don't like? We go through some of the names and talk about some of the recent changes that players are already recognizing under the new head coach. Support the show Get in the Flock! 2024 NFL Draft Quarterback Evaluations: The Outsiders (Part 1)
Throughout the years, even if the Seahawks have needed a quarterback or not, we like to go through the latest crop of NFL quarterback candidates and pick out our favorites. Adam's track record has been solid and rather than bury it in one of our flagship episodes, we're giving it it's own series. In part, because of the amount of depth in this year's 2024 class. We talk about the methodology for evaluating a quarterback, a couple of quarterbacks who may go late or undrafted, and where some of the other QBs may fit. This group fell outside of the Top 7 quarterbacks we'll be talking about on future episodes. Support the show Get in the Flock! Draft month begins! Versatility may be the Seahawks theme
The Seahawks signed a veteran receiver Laviska Shenault to the roster this past week. Should we read into the signing as to what may be in store for the Seahawks offense, or is he some insurance in case another receiver doesn't work out? John Schneider was on the radio this week and talked in generalities about the draft and based on his comments, we aren't likely to see any drastic changes in draft strategy. It's clear to fans the team could use a versatile offensive lineman early in the draft, but will the Seahawks general manager follow that same line of thought? Support the show Get in the Flock! Should the Seahawks Stick and Pick at 16 Overall
Happy Easter! We're dropping this delicious action green colored egg right into your baskets and stirring the pot. Adam and Clinton walk through why this year might be a supremely beneficial year to be picking at spot 16 as they debate what our Seahawks should do at 16 as well as what they think our GM will probably do. NFL Rule Changes, Latest Seahawks News and Rumors
The NFL passed some new rules this week around bringing the kickoff back into the game and taking out swivel hip drop tackles. Seems like a fair trade off. We're getting closer to having a sky judge with another rule change that, if it goes well, most of us won't even notice that it's working. General Manager John Schneider says the offensive line is a work in progress, but there isn't much that can be done to improve it apart from the draft. But the draft won't be able to fix the amount of inexperience on the line heading into the 2024 season. Coach Mike Macdonald says the defense needs a solid spine. That could be another area that could continue to be improved through the draft. Finally, the waffles versus pancakes debate should be over. But is it time to introduce a new entrant into the mix? 432: Grading the NFC West in Free Agency
Now that the NFC West has passed through the first couple waves of free agency, we run down some of the biggest moves by the Seattle Seahawks competitors. Did the Los Angeles Rams win free agency by spending on the offensive line? Or are they the biggest losers because their Hall of Fame defender decided to pack up his locker and call it a career? The Arizona Cardinals have four new starters in the trenches. It would be bigger news if they were players you've actually heard of. Plus, they may have made the most boneheaded trade in the entire conference. Then there's the San Francisco 49ers. They're making some key moves, but they didn't do the one thing that could help them overcome a devastating Super Bowl loss. We take a look at a few areas the Seahawks still need to address through free agency and the draft. Plus, we clear any confusion surrounding the role of Pete Carroll and the Seahawks organization moving forward. Mike Macdonald and John Schneider are working to clear up any confusion around which player is the starting quarterback between Geno Smith and Sam Howell. In the second half of the show, the take a look at the proposed rule against hip drop tackles and some language that is important to identifying the types of tackles the NFL is trying to get out of the game. A Rams fan who doesn't understand the position of nose tackle and the Seahawks front office both land in this week's Do Better segment. We profile a Missouri-based company as well as a Montana-based organization for their Better at Life worthy actions. 2023 Podcast Pick'em League Support the show Get in the Flock! 2024 Seahawks Free Agency - What Holes are Left to Fill?
In the past week the Seahawks made a move to fill a large hole in the defensive line. The addition of Johnathan Hankins adds some beef, but have the Seahawks done enough yet to satisfy all aspects of the trenches? They also added another linebacker and some safety depth. What do those additions mean to the overall strength of the team and their ability to improve the defense in 2024. Seahawks trade for a QB, sign multiple free agents
Days into free agency, the Seattle Seahawks have worked to try and fill holes at positions of need. They needed a backup quarterback with Drew Lock heading to New York, and now they have Sam Howell after swapping picks with Washington. George Fant is returning to the Seahawks, but will he be able to find his way into a starting role? Seattle signed a center/guard, a safety and a linebacker. Are they clear improvements or a sign of the franchise rebuilding? Plus they made moves to bring back Artie Burns, Darrell Taylor and D'Wayne Eskridge. 2023 Podcast Pick'em League Support the show Get in the Flock! Rating the Seahawks 'Cupboards' Ahead of Free Agency
We are days away from the start of the NFL's new league year and the beginning of free agency. Where do the Seahawks currently stand with players currently under contract? Seattle has depth at running back, wide receiver and cornerback. However, it's quite the opposite when it comes to tight end, interior offensive line and linebacker. Based on the areas where they're deficient, it should make it clear where they'll attack free agency and potentially the draft. Support the show Get in the Flock! Jamal Adams, Quandre Diggs and Will Dissly cut ahead of free agency
The Seahawks moved to open up salary cap space on Tuesday with free agency on the horizon. Jamal Adams was player many expected to be released considering his cap hit and injury history. We discuss why Quandre Diggs was cut despite years of selections to the Pro Bowl and if Will Dissly could possibly return. Could any other Seahawks players be next? EJ Snyder of Bootleg Football is back on the show after returning from the 2024 NFL Combine. He talks about the part of the combine that doesn't make it on the television ahead of the drill that begin on Thursday and how that drives some of the information that comes out of the week. Linebacker is a need for the Seahawks, so who were some of the standouts from his perspective as he had an up-close look at the athletes. On Saturday, we got to watch the quarterbacks throw. From the podium: Geno Smith is the starting QB 'until he's not'
John Schneider, general manager of the Seattle Seahawks, took questions from the media at the NFL Combine on Tuesday. He talked about the new coaching staff, the impact of not having the staff at the combine, and what he looks for in evaluating quarterbacks. With regard to the quarterbacks, currently on the team, Schneider gave a dismissive and non-committal answer, but he followed up with some of the process that the coaches will go through during the week following the combine. Position Groups to Watch at the 2024 NFL Combine (w/Seahawks Forever)
Dan Viens of the Seahawks Forever podcast joins the show to look ahead at this week's NFL Combine. Which position groups is he most interested in for Seattle as we head into draft season? Considering the coaching change, have we seen the last of Bobby Wagner for the Seahawks? Saturday is generally the best day to watch in terms of offensive players, but the team needs for quarterback, running back and wide receiver are relatively low. Michael Penix is expected to throw, which is exciting considering the condition we saw him in following the National Championship. Finally, Dan thinks the Seahawks should take Mike Holmgren's advice on how to balance age vs experience when building a team. Support the show Get in the Flock! Ep 431431: Niners lose Super Bowl, Seahawks fill their coordinator spots
A week after the Super Bowl and we're still celebrating a 49ers loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. For a third time, Kyle Shanahan has been involved in a game where he's been up 10+ points and lost. Despite reports of players not knowing the overtime rules and whether or not the 49ers took the ball first, does it even really matter? Did it even matter that the overtime rules have changed? It seemed like the 49ers were simply destined to lose that game based on several second half misfires. The Seahawks new coaching staff is taking shape and we heard from Ryan Grubb, Aden Durde and Jay Harbaugh this past week. Which hire represents the biggest risk among the group and what are some common themes now that we see the leadership of the staff coming together? Geno Smith continues to be under contract, but is he here to stay for the long term? We discuss why we may be in for a couple months of Geno Smith trade talk leading up to the draft. There are two former Seahawks entering the Pro Football Hall of Fame after last week's announcements. There are a couple members of the Legion of Boom who look to be a lock and one who could get snubbed based on how we've seen voting go historically. Plus, we announce this year's pick'em league champion! Pro Football Focus gets called out along with a list of the best Super Bowl halftimes in the Do Better segment. Five Senior Bowl Players to Watch in the 2024 NFL Draft
Last year the Seahawks drafted four players who we watched in the Senior Bowl, and it was five players the year before that. So it makes sense to take a hard look at each of the players there who could be a potential fit for Seattle. EJ Snyder of Bootleg Football joins the show to talk about four players on defense and one offensive lineman who has already been mocked to the Seahawks with their 16th overall pick. We talk about what intrigues us, and what we don't like about: Cowboys Defensive Coordinator Dan Quinn (03:00), Rams DC Raheem Morris (03:13), Texans Offensive Coordinator Bobby Slowik (13:08), Lions OC Ben Johnson (18:00), Panthers DC Ejiro Evero (22:18), Raiders DC Patrick Graham (25:39), Dolphins OC Frank Smith (30:19), Giants OC Mike Kafka (33:13), Former Titans Head Coach Mike Vrabel (37:48), Ravens DC Mike Macdonald (41:02), and Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh (56:32). Ep 429429: Your Word of the Day - Jellied
There's a crude joke from many years ago that led to a word often used on the show for a dominant run performance. The Seahawks were 'jellied' by the Steelers this past Sunday and on top of ruining a potential playoff berth, it's also one of the worst ways to lose a football game. The loss highlights an issue that has continued to show up on defense throughout Clint Hurtt's time as the defensive coordinator. Is it a coordinator issue or is it a problem that goes all the way to the top? Fortunately (or unfortunately) the Seahawks will be tested by a similar running game this week in the Arizona Cardinals. The NFC West rival is coming off a win over last year's conference champion and it offers an opportunity to highlight the difference in coaching versus player performance. Can the Seahawks bounce back after a loss and put the team in a similar position as last year? Will we be cheering on the Bears to victory in hopes our Seahawks can make the playoffs? After the break we talk about a popular name expected to re-enter the NFL coaching ranks and how unlikely of a fit it would be for the Seahawks. We discuss the potential of a civil war brewing within the show. Which side gets the best caterer? We call out the Seahawks general manager for a missed opportunity recently and to the writer of a Seahawks blog. Better at life honors go out to an elite comment from a Browns player and to the Washington Huskies for their title run. 2023 Podcast Pick'em League Support the show Get in the Flock! 3 IN, 3 OUT: No Time for Nuance
Sometimes it's a game of inches. Not this time. Brandan and Clinton ditch the nooks and crannies and talk about five major topics from this last game vs. the Steelers with a healthy dose of looking ahead to both our game vs. the Cardinals and the help we need from the Sausage kings of Chicago... Live & UnCatfished: Steelers build using the Titans blueprint
For the last three weeks of Seahawks football, it was apparent to anyone watching that they were struggling in the trenches. Just last week the Titans nearly got the win by being able to dominate Seattle in the run game. The Pittsburgh Steelers saw that and took full advantage of it in their 30-23 victory over Seattle in Week 17. The Steelers secured another winning season for their head coach Mike Tomlin and it puts into question whether or not Pete Carroll will be able to lead Seattle to a winning season. The blueprint is out on the Seahawks defense and the Cardinals have the capability to use it coming up in Week 18. 3 Support the show Get in the Flock! PNW Prop Stars: Seahawks Props to Ring in the New Year
The last few Seahawks and Steelers games have been low scoring affairs. Will the trend continue as the two teams face off? The guys stay away from the receiving props this week for the most part and stick to more of the ground-based milestones. Is there a major discrepancy in the prediction for how many carries the Steelers top running back should get? We did into some of the primary matchups and how we expect the game to play out as the Seahawks look toward a potential playoff berth. Happy New Year to all! Support the show Get in the Flock! What If?... Seahawks Fans get a New Year's Wish
Our Seahawks take on a hard-nosed team that wants to run the ball and attack the quarterback. Will the Steelers be able to get Najee Harris going? Will T.J. Watt have his way vs. Abe Lucas and company? We ask, "What if we make a wish for the New Year?" What would this game look like? We talk about players we would like to succeed (and perhaps get some revenge on their former steelers team) as well as the opposing playmakers who our Seahawks need to stop. Could we see a Russell Wilson reunion in 2024?
Russell Wilson appears to be on his way out of Denver. Is there anything that could make a reunion in Seattle possible? Based on some commentary about Wilson's 2024 contract, the relative cost could be appealing, but would it be worth it? Is Russell Wilson still a starting quarterback or a high level backup. We discuss what it would take for a reunion to be possible in Seattle and if it's something that we would even want. Support the show Get in the Flock! Ep 428428: The Consequences of Inconsistency
In the 20-17 win against the Tennessee Titans, we saw some of the inconsistencies of the season continue. Fortunately, it still allowed for the Seahawks to get the win and part of that was attributed this past week to the amount of time Pete Carroll focuses on the two-minute offense. There's one aspect of the late-game offense that is different and Pete was asked this week why the team leads the league in throws to the sidelines. The answer was not satisfactory. There are two big matchups to watch coming up against the Steelers on Sunday. Mike Tomlin is also looking to continue a career milestone that is coming down to the final two games of the season. Mason Rudolph is set to get the start in place of Kenny Pickett after putting up 30+ against the Bengals. We discuss what went into the Steelers success last week. The Seahawks do have an opportunity to clinch a playoff spot this Sunday. Even though it only involved the outcome in one game apart from the Seahawks, it's not a very likely outcome. Plus, should we be lobbying for the Niners to get the top seed? We talk about the latest Russell Wilson news in the Do Better segment along with some frustrations with a Mac update. Better at life honors go out to one of the FCS Championship teams and to the Seahawks for coming out way ahead on one of the biggest front office moves in team history. 2023 Podcast Pick'em League Support the show Get in the Flock! 3 IN, 3 OUT: Comeback Kids Win in Nashville
If you think winning is better than losing and you're still riding high from another comeback win (this time on Christmas Eve), well, welcome in ... you'll love this episode of 3 IN, 3 OUT. We're praising the interior d-line for getting after the Titans quarterback and discussing how our wide receivers continue to be clutch when it matters most. On the flip side, some free-runners near the goal line had both Clinton and Brandan shaking their heads. Support the show Get in the Flock! Live & UnCatfished: Colby Parkinson Saves Christmas!
Both the Seahawks offensive and defensive lines struggled against a more physical opposition for most of the game. Derrick Henry reminded us that he could still be the same guy who was as tough to bring down as in previous matchups. Fortunately, the Seahawks reminded us that if they have a shot to win the game in the fourth quarter that they're going to take it. After being knocked back from the goal line on a second down run, Geno Smith found Colby Parkinson in the end zone. Despite being mugged, Parkinson came down with the go-ahead touchdown. Finally, with the Titans able to take one last shot to get into field goal range, Riq Woolen made a heads up tackle to run out the final seconds of the clock. Support the show Get in the Flock! PNW Prop Stars: Seahawks Studs vs. Titans Flubs
The boys are back! Wilson won the week vs. the Eagles and the Boy Prince looks to increase his lead in Week 16. Clinton enters go big or go home time and is betting a certain Titans RB (hint: not Henry) is in line for a good day. Adam and Wilson are riding with Geno while Clinton sees a big day for DK coming right up. Finally, could JSN's upward trajectory continue right into a +2200 situation on Sunday? If it does, there will be a nice Christmas bonus for Wilson. Support the show Get in the Flock! Ep 427427: Amazing Won't Do It Justice
The Seahawks win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football was one of their most important wins of the season. Not only did it keep them in the race for the playoffs, they showed some level of physical football that we hadn't seen in previous weeks. There was also a question of whether Coach Pete Carroll may not have the support of the locker room as the losses continued to pile up. Even if the Seahawks didn't pull out the win - that question had been answered through the first three quarters of the game. Drew Lock answered some questions in this game by driving the length of the field in the final two minutes of the game. His post game press conference was an all-timer. However, it sounds like Geno Smith will be ready to come back against the Titans. He finally has a chance to enjoy a full game with Charles Cross and Abe Lucas at the tackle spots. But the Titans are significantly better than the Seahawks in two particular defensive stat lines. Will that be a difference maker when it comes down to which team comes away with the victory? Will the focus of replacing Pete Carroll shift following the win over the Eagles? Do we need to start looking for a new head coach anyway based on some of the rumors about Dan Quinn? What does a successful head coach even look like? Our pick'em league overlord is pleased this week and we give a shoutout to 9L as requested. Eagles fans need to 'do better' even as one of our own feels as though he can do better. Better at life honors go out to a media member who has Pete's back and to one of the biggest names in national media for avoiding a biased approach at covering Monday Night Football. 2023 Podcast Pick'em League Support the show Get in the Flock! What If?… We're on the Eve of Success
On the eve of Christmas we're searching for a bit of that holiday magic that can take our Seahawks that much closer to the edge of a successful regular season. Can Seattle take down a beaten-up Titans team? Can DK and JSN go back-to-back after the week they had on Monday night? Will K9 get the volume? Clinton, Brandan and Phil talk about some of the things they'd like to see from the team at this point that would lead us all to believe that the playoffs continue to be a possibility for Pete Carroll and the Seahawks.
3 IN, 3 OUT: It's Been 84 Years
When we WIN we start with an IN! It feels like it's been 84 years, but after 4 weeks of losses we were ready to get jolly and scream "We Back Up!!!" Our Seahawks get huge home victory over the Eagles in the 20-17 comeback. Clinton pours the love on "role players" while Brandan gushes over who might be our most consistent Seahawks defender. 3 INs, 3 OUTs, the BrandIN, the MVC, the From the Flock section ... this episode has it all.
