"I leaned in, feeling her warm breath fluttering over my face. But then just before I closed my eyes, I saw her face change. Her eyes turned from brown to pitch black, and a sinister grin split her face. I jerked back in shock! Her face changed back to the beautiful girl she was before. Did I really see what I thought I had a moment ago?"Dan has two New England-based horror stories, a couple of areas with haunted origins going back to Puritan times. First, we’ll visit Devil’s Hopyard state park in Connecticut. What may haunt the woods of this park at night? Has it been haunting that area for centuries? These questions lead to a modern encounter story. Next, we’ll head to Portsmouth, New Hampshire’s South Street Cemetery. So many entities seem to inhabit this area’s extremely haunted space and we’ll meet several. Lynze has some creepy tales to share too! She kicks it off with a possible twin doppelgänger. A woman goes her whole life not knowing she was a twin while also seeing "herself" on and off for many years. Closing out the show is a simple story of someone or something knocking at the window. It's the question the listener poses at the end that did Lynze in. "As we got out of the car, we all froze. In the light, we saw very tiny handprints, like that of a six-year-old, all over our car."TW! TW! TW! Examples of suicide, sexual abuse, and murder are present in both of Dan's stories. The first is a shorter tale that Dan promised to share here after a recent episode of the Timesuck Podcast when he talked about the 1980 New Mexico Prison Riot. The now closed prison has been supposedly haunted ever since that riot, and today we explore those claims. His big second story is the tale of Maurice Theriault. A name that probably rings familiar to a lot of horror film fans. Infamous demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren of the Conjuring universe were part of an exorcism on Maurice in May of 1985. Lynze has her usual two stories but this week, it's a little bit different. She shares encounters from the same fan who has two unrelated experiences about 10 or so years apart. In the second story we visit one of Hong Kong’s most notorious haunted houses, Dragon Lodge, and looking into its history and the paranormal experiences some of its residents have supposedly had there. "And then he saw something out of the corner of his eye. A man was running through the woods… with a look of fear on his face. He seemed to be definitely running away from something. Or from someBODY. Joe was about to call out to the man to see if he needed help when his mouth dropped. He saw, just as Vicky had before - that the man had no legs."Dan has two tales that both involve a haunted place. Both involve numerous people claiming to see or hear the same ghost or ghosts. For the first, shorter story, we’ll head to the UK, down by Portsmouth just North of the Isle of Wight, to explore the ghosts of Hinton Ampner. A story of hauntings that supposedly occurred back in the 18th century. Then, we are going to look into the crimes of midwest serial killer, Herb Baumeister, who buried numerous victims on his property in Indiana just north of Indianapolis in Carmel. Did his murders trap numerous spirits on Fox Hollow Farm, the beautiful estate where he lived and very, VERY likely murdered? Little true crime/haunted place mashup. Lynze has two excellent stories and follows in Dan's footsteps with a little warm up and then a big scare. For the appetizer of spoops, she takes us to a college library where something or someone wants to have a few private moments, practicing their music. "Now my mother stopped convulsing and sat up and got face to face with my grandmother. But her face did not look like it should have. And she spoke in Camila’s voice. She screamed in Spanish, “I’ll take EVERYONE FROM YOU, WITCH!” Dan's first story is not one that will jump right out and terrify you but it sure is bizarre and creepy. The Lawson House saw much tragedy around it over the years, literally. A fatal train crash and a series of fires that did not involve the house itself but perhaps came to be the place the lost souls took up residence. One day, a bizarre collection of mannequins arrived on the porch of the Lawson house, with out explanation. Where did they come from? Who was dressing them? Propping them up? Adjusting the poses? No one ever took credit for it and then one day, it just stopped. Weird. Then in story two, Dan takes us to South America to Argentina to explore a possible family haunting, foul play and multiple deaths. A family divide, a disagreement goes next level when one family member not only (possibly) kills one family member but also comes for others after her own death. It's a wild ride and will have you wondering if you should be making offerings to the saint of death. Lynze has 3 tales this week, so fun! She starts off with the most skeptical family, a family of non-believers who eventually all see the same inhuman woman in their dreams. Who is she and what is she doing there is beyond anyone's knowledge but this family works together to attempt to banish her for good. Then, off to Ohio for a haunted bar tale. A little palette cleanser of a story, not super scary but definitely makes you wonder. And then lastly, a pair of teens harass a neighbor who is possibly a witch. "He began growling, a deep, rumbling, angry sound. .. After a long moment, I realized that these were not my husband’s eyes at all. "They’d only made it a few paces when Louise’s boot snapped loudly on a twig. She winced and froze. “I hear you,” The woman sang in a high pitched voice. “Keep walking,” Nathaniel whispered. They made it a few more paces, when Louise heard the distinct sound of a third person’s footsteps, directly behind her. Louise felt a hand reach out and firmly grip the back of her arm."Dan starts with his two stories, like normal, but they’re a bit bigger than usual. They both take place outside and are both classic ghost stories. The first comes from England - Wychwood Forest - and the ghost of Lady Amy Dudley. Does the spirit of a woman who died long ago still roam the forest, searching for the man who may have had her killed? And can she kill? The next story takes us to Southern Oregon - to an old cemetery in Cottage Grove - a town Lynze and Dan once drove right on by when moving from Santa Monica to Couer d’Alene. Did a young couple confront a ghost who still wants to guard his land?The second half of the show, Lynze brings us a story of a person who tells their tale of surviving an exorcism. So often on this show, there are questions about exorcisms and what might happen afterwards. Just last week, Dan told the tale of a woman who died soon after her exorcism. But not this guy. He lives to tell us all about it! Her second tale is beyond creepy. A young couple moves into an apartment, meet all of their neighbors- except one. “What floor?” I asked. “You first,” he said. “You first?” - “Who says that in an elevator?” Jesus. So creepy. Now I was starting to genuinely worry about this guy. Was I safe? Was he gonna attack me in the hotel elevator? Two middle-aged men duking it out? I pushed the 14th floor and he raised up his eyebrows, saying “Good choice! Me too. Safe travels.” I was just about to ask him what the Hell his deal was when the elevator doors closed and the lights all went out."The first story takes us to Dallas, Texas where a traveling businessman has a long travel day turn into a true nightmare when he meets a stranger at the hotel bar. It's a fun and scary story set in one of Dan's favorite horror locations - the haunted hotel. Next we head to upstate New York to explore the legend of The Flying Head. We’d classify it as…. a cryptid, we guess? This is a wild tale. We hope it’s not true. If it was, a pair of hunters had a bloody encounter with a monster - something supposed to be nothing more than an old Native American legend. Tale three is a bizarre and long standing relationship between a woman and a doppleganger. Or maybe it's more than one? It's hard to tell exactly what is happening and why. The last story of the show has us hoping nothing ever crawls into bed with us! A woman recalls her awful encounter with something from beyond this world that joins her while she sleeps! "After a few days of this, the monk and his nuns now carried her from her room and into the church, chaining her to a cross with her arms stretched out in a crucifixion pose while they doused her with holy water at the alter of Christ. As they watched her arms strain against the ties, they wondered if they were hurting her and should untie her." The first story is known as the The Tanacu Exorcism. What everyone agrees on with this story, is that in the Spring of 2005, a young nun named Maricica Cornici died after collapsing after being tied up for about a week in a Romanian monastery. What there is a lot of disagreement on is what led to her death. Did a monk and some nuns horribly handle a case of schizophrenia? Or - was this truly a case of demonic possession? The second story takes place in Garfield Heights, Ohio. An anonymous woman bought her first house and joy and pride quickly turn into paranormal terror. Very unique type of haunting that I can’t set up much without giving something away. But this one is probably gonna be hard to listen to if you hear it right before you go to bed and you live alone. Story three brings us to Cuba! A young girl takes a horse back riding trip while on a family vacation. She discovers what appears to be a stone altar and, unfortunately, removes a necklace from the stone altar. By doing so, she interrupts a tradition in Santeria that helps spirits move on to the other side. Then in the final story, a couple encounters a mischievous ghost in a Dublin pub! "Hanging from the ceiling. Swaying back and forth, holding that cross just like I’d heard, giant grin on her face, and those dark, hateful eyes staring right at me. And then her mouth moved as I heard her speak. “I knew you’d burn when you were a kid, Jason, and I know it now. Your dad is waiting for you. HELL! Hell WAITS!” A truly terrifying story of a murder turned ghost that haunts the woods of Lums Pond State Park, a beautiful park that flies under the radar! In the 1870s, an unnamed young woman from New Castle County ran away from home and ended up in what is now the park. This woman decided to camp out in the woods her first night away from home. A man found her and based on the state of her body as it was found later, he’d raped her and left her for dead. Before she died, some locals heard her screaming late it into the night, but they weren’t able to find her body until long after she died of her injuries. Her body wasn’t found for several days, actually. And her killer was never found. Then for story two, a very specific kind of haunting in a church basement, like one you will never forget. A woman from the local parish who was in charge of Bible study, one day, hanged herself in the church basement and it would appear, she still has not found peace in death. The back half of the show unintentionally takes on a theme of kids and attachments or hauntings, but in different ways. In story one, it would seem that a boy is born with the gift of seeing things that live beyond our realm, whether he likes it or not. In the final story of the show, a true skeptic gives into the other side when he is haunted repeatedly by the little blue boy with the maniacal grin. "We watched silently as Ronald swam towards his destination. And then suddenly…. Ronald disappeared from our view. He slipped under the water, hands flailing for a moment, before his hands sunk under as well. And he never came back up. Moments passed. We waited with bated breath for him to come up. Streaks of red appeared on the surface, pale at first, them blooming out into a giant scarlet cloud. Blood..." Dan takes us to Alaska to explore a new kind of folklore, a new entity we have not yet covered on Scared To Death. The Kushtaka. According to northern legends from southern Alaska , the Kushtaka are shape shifting creatures that are half man, half otter. Not a combo that is probably going to immediately strike fear into anyone hearts when that’s all you hear. When you think of an otter, you most likely think of a cute, water-loving little creature known for floating on its back and eating shellfish. But the Kushtaka is not some cute little creature. It’s a large, bigger-than-a-man, soul-stealing shape-shifter. After Alaska, we journey to Lancaster, Ohio to hear the tale of the Mudhouse Mansion. The history of this house is a troubled one that begins with a tortuous slave owner who abused one of his slave so severely that one night, the slave murdered the slave owner and his entire family. Thus begins the Mudhouse's many bizarre activities. In the back half of the show, Lynze has two tales. The first one, though small, is mighty. A woman has what would seem to be is a lucid dream, at least that's what she thought. She thought the creepy man with wide grin and black hat were simply a nightmare. That is until her child told her not to follow the man. How could her child know about her dreams before she even spoke of them? Was it a dream afterall? Then a story of a haunted trailer! Lynze loved this story because while it had a few moments of being tense, it was really more about confirmation of what a ghost might be capable of that is not necessarily terrifying. "The monster dug his claws into the hood of their car, the claws making a horrible screeching sound as they dented the metal. A married couple takes a trip to reconnect and bring back the spark. All was going well until the final day of their trip. Jordan, the husband, insisted they leave on a late night flight and in order to make their flight. And to save time, they take a short cut. This short cut was the worst decision he made on that trip and it serves as a reminder to always trust your gut! Then off to Nebraska to Seven Sisters Road. A little road with a big history. A brother killed his seven sisters by luring them out, one at a time, to seven different hills where he hanged them. That energy seems to be hanging around to this day. A couple takes a short cut, just like the couple in Aruba, and will come to wish they hadn't!Lynze has 3 stories this week! Going out with a bang! Her first story is creepy BUT you need to look at the picture to really have it sink in as to why finding 20 wooden crosses in a clearing during a hike is so damn scary. "And when they entered the house they were “immediately greeted with spontaneous banging and knocking from around the house, but the focus seemed to be in Gottliebin's bedroom.”To Germany! A story of a very bizarre and long possession are what Dan has to share at the top of the show. Lutheran Minister Johann Christoph Blumhardt was born July 16th, 1805 in Stuttgart, Germany. He would live in Germany until his death at the age of 74 on February 25th, 1880. Blumhardt became a famous faith healer in his day - and his fame began with a book he wrote, Blumhardt’s Battle, published in 1850 - a book that journaled his 1842 exorcism of Gottliebin Dittus, a young woman from the small German village of Möttingen. And Gottliebin experienced, if we are to believe Blumhardt’s account - an incredibly intense and prolonged demonic possession. Then Dan keeps the holiday tradition of an old timey Victorian era horror story to wrap up this holiday edition of Scared To Death. Lynze takes a slight departure this week telling two similar tales that offer more confirmation and comfort in what might be on the other side. In her first tale, she shares the story of a man who spends the night at The Villisca Axe Murder house and brings home an attachment, but it's not what you think. Then in her second share, she tells us the story of a mother who lost her life but helped her daughter save her own. It's a sad story with a happy ending and just enough spoop in the middle! "As he was stopped in front of the garage door, a voice said, “Come here.” Allen prayed to God someone was playing a trick on him. Even someone trespassing on his property would be better than something he didn’t have an explanation for. He crept around the side of the garage and looked into the alley…The Dark Watchers are dark, shadowy entities that lurk in the shadows and haunt the Santa Lucia Mountains. Are they really there or are they simply an urban legend? Young couple Carlos and Julia find themselves coming face to face with the dark watchers when they get lost on a hike. The dark watchers don't seem to want to hurt them but they are getting aggressively close to Carlos and Julia. Julia makes an offering but will it be enough? Then Dan takes us to Wisconsin to hear the tale of the Tallman family. Like any young family on a budget, the Tallman parents are excited when they find a good deal on a set of used bunkbeds. Unfortunately, they will come to regret this purchase when they bring home more than they bargained for. The nightmares, the encounters, the disembodied voices can almost be explained away. It's the fires and the soot that have the Tallman's concerned. Will they make it out alive? Lynze has one, big, fat, juicy amazing tale this week! A life long following? Haunting? Shadow? What do you call it when you are pretty damn sure "you" have been following you around for the entirety of your life? A dopplegänger is supposedly a version of yourself that appears to you as an omen, a warning. However, there don't seem to be any rules about how long a dopplegänger might stick around before one might experience whatever it is they are there to warn you about. Lo, a longtime fan, has been dealing with her shadow friend for the majority of her life. It's been nearly impossible to find out what "She" wants. Or at least it seemed that way until her boyfriend passed away. Was that the entire purpose of "her" following Lo around? And if so, why is she STILL there?! "I slipped off my blanket and put my feet on the floor as I realized that the bathroom light was on even though I distinctly remembered turning it off before I went to bed. I cautiously creeped over to the bathroom and peaked my head around the corner. And I froze when I saw the creepy man from the front desk - seemingly trying to drown some young woman in the bathtub!"Dan has a lot of story to share this week! He starts with the tale of a young woman discovering a man in her hotel room drowning a woman to death. It all feels so real but is it? Can ghosts and the living interact in a way that we didn't think they could? Possibly. This evil man may have drowned a woman, but not in that moment. It's all a bit weird. Then it's time to visit Australia's Letta the Doll. If you brought home a doll for your children and the doll was talking to them in the night, you would think that would be the end of that doll, right? WRONG. Find out why Kerry Walton decided to hang on to this haunted doll. Dan wraps it up with three small tales of haunted mirrors. It will leave you understanding why Lynze will never buy an antique mirror! Speaking of Lynze, she has some juicy tales this week too! A story of two friends who stumble upon an abandoned barn that holds something unexplainable inside. They don't know if they discovered a rotting corpse or the remains of an occult ceremony. Either way, what they discover is less than pleasant. Finishing out the episode, we find ourselves staring out in the dark abyss of the wilderness to find eyes staring right back at us. What a scary thing, to be so vulnerable and then see little sets of eyes spying on you. The worst part is that even after these friends leave the woods, one friend still feels the eyes upon her. "Emilia," he said, turning back to her. "There are people out there coming towards us. People with hoods." "I know," she said calmly. "Sorry, Layton. I really do have feelings for you, but it has to bed fed." "Fed?" Layton didn't like the way that sounded at all. "The beast" he mumbled as he put on his shoes and jacket.A very well documented murder, well actually murders, in Helsinki in 1960 are the basis for this extra creepy tale. Layton and Emilia are a young couple on a trip of a lifetime in Finland, loving life. That all comes to a halt when Emilia tries to offer Layton up as a sacrifice. It's a weird story that will make you think twice about traveling with your significant other. A truly haunted house that also houses haunted objects, possibly, is the basis for tale two of Dan's this week. The house that sits at 50 Berkley Square in London is supposedly home to rare objects, books and items of the occult. Did the Maggs Brothers buy this home because of its interesting past so that they could stash all of their bizarre artifacts there? So many deaths and sightings occurred here, it's hard to imagine anyone would want to own or occupy it. Lynze carries on with the haunted house theme. In the first story, Ana sees a little blonde girl in her house, regularly. Her family eventually confronts the ghost and her many friends, but they don't want to leave. Why do the children want to stay? And is it possible that they simply feel safe there? Lastly, the melting clown. MW has a tale that freaks Dan out. It's one of his greatest fears- Clowns. And that clown shows up in the most vulnerable of places. Many years later, MW finds out just how the spirits that haunted her and her childhood home got there in the first place. And he put the painting in storage."Dan starts with a different angle this week by exploring the world of haunted paintings. It's a totally new space to explore and a really fun and interesting space to find new spoops. Then in his second telling, Dan shares many shared accounts of the Brown Mountain Lights. Lynze has a lot of questions which is really what all of these people have. These mysterious lights are inexplicable and have been going on for years. They are just so bizarre. In Lynze's half of the show, she focuses in on just one story, instead of her usual two or occasional three. A lifetime of hauntings that start when a boy moves in with his grandparents. “Something out here is trying to kill us. It wants us to swerve off the road and crash - it’s TRYING to get me to swerve off the road and crash."Dan has two fantastic tales this week but Lynze's stories seem to be the one's that really give the chills this week. Dan tells the story of a tired, over worked cab driver in Vera Cruz. At the end of his shift, all he wants to do is go home and go to bed. A beautiful woman begs for a ride home and he is so captivated that he drives her home. When he returns the next day to take her on a date, he is shocked to learn that she has been dead for many, many years. Continuing with the theme of seeing weird things while driving, Dan takes us to Scotland to visit one of the most haunted roads. Two brothers encounter so many bizarre things, so many spirits that it would seem impossible to not be real. Lynze, unintentionally, starts off her half of the show with another tale of seeing bizarre and scary things while driving at night, her first tale is a 2 for 1 special about the Smiling Man. While driving through their small town, the see the Smiling Man not once, but twice. Wrapping up the show is an insane story about a shape shifting doppelgänger. "You don’t want to be with me,” Kris replied, her voice gravely and low. Laurie realized that there was still laughter— a different, high-pitched laughter, at the same time as Kris was speaking. “You want to be with them. You hate me.”“I don’t hate you,” she begged, trying not to let her legs give out. She felt like the dolls were closing in on her, could even feel the brush of cloth against her ankles, like they were beginning to surround her. She was about to become hysterical."Dan brings it this week with two incredible stories! The first story is a tale of a couple who decide that, due to the pandemic, they are going to move out of their busy city and out to the mountains of Montana. It all sounds so sweet, almost dream like! The dream of making an old house their new home quickly goes sideways when a room of dolls is discovered. From the moment the dolls are found, everything changes. A possession in the Philippines is Dan's second story. It's a sad story, the story of a young girl living a hard life. Her hard life grows harder when she is incarcerated and then possessed. The ending of this story though, is a real head scratcher. Lynze admits that this weeks stories are a bit less spoopy than usual, she's starting to crack up a little bit. Her first story will take us to the World's Fair in St. Louis in 1904 where an abandoned baby goes on to lead a very interesting life and is possibly still quite interesting in death. Then, a chance encounter with the beast of Bray Rd. Two friends set out to cruise around and enjoy a few beers. When one of them needs to answer natures call, a horrific scene unfolds. Then, to end the show, a protective Grandpa makes a return visit to make sure his granddaughter remains safe. "He stared down at himself with the same horrified expression. I knew right away he saw it too. As I opened my mouth to say something, he screamed. His feet fell out from under him, and I screamed too as his head hit the edge of the bridge, as I watched him seemingly get pulled straight down into the river." In Great Falls, Montana, some police officers are among those who believe that one of their jail cells is haunted. The Old Cascade County Jail was built in the early 1900s, directly across the street from the west face of the courthouse. Bob Edwards, a Cascade County Sheriff , claims he saw a strange mist floating through through the old cells on a video monitor. It spooked him. And to this day, he has no explanation for it. According to local legend, she was believed to dabble in witchcraft. Or at least that’s what she was accused of. One night, some scared local townspeople decided to form a vigilante lynch mob, and take what they considered to be justice into their own hands. They decided to kill who they believed to be a heretic. And when they made it to her house that night, they grabbed the poor woman, and they hanged her from a tree directly in front of her her home. According to legend, in her last moments, she cursed the house and the surrounding land and still haunts the area today. Summer Camp should be a fun time to hang out with your friends and enjoy your freedom from your parents. It shouldn't be a place that you and your friends find themselves terrified of what comes in the night. In story one, Lynze walks us through a very bizarre summer camp story. After that, she has two more tales, both about haunted houses. The first house appears to very angry when the new owners begin to renovate. It's a classic haunted tale! In story one this week, we go to Beijing! A beautiful and ominous, ivy covered French baroque style mansion sits in a complex with another mansion inside an impressive courtyard in the Dongcheng District of Beijing. Originally built by the American Catholic Church in 1910 and then used from 1930 until 1949 as a Chinese language school to train foreign missionaries, the house then began a long, long period of sitting unoccupied, surrounded by stories of the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman haunting the grounds And now, to Iceland! Hurrá is a popular bar/nightclub in Reykjavik, Iceland. Hurrá doesn’t just make the lists of the best pubs in Reykjavik, it also makes the lists of the “most haunted” spots in all of Iceland. Local lore claims that a young sailor was murdered on the shore where the bar now sits, many centuries ago, and his spirit never seems to have moved from the place where he died. Story three considers the idea that being in touch with the other side might be something passed from one generation to the next when a red bouncing ball appears to multiple in one family. A young women is brutalize and murdered for stealing from her pimp. After dying at the hands of her torturer, she returns to seek her revenge. Some of their figures were only shadows.But some of the closest ones, the ones moving towards them now, they could see their faces. Their bodies. All of them looked malevolent. "Their friend said that if you drove through the tunnel at midnight to the hotel and called out the boy’s name… you might see him in your rear-view mirror, running up behind your car, flailing his disjointed limbs as he tried to catch you. " Dan weaves horror this week, telling us about Japanese traditions of Kimodameshi. The folklore that comes out of Japan is possibly some of the best and most terrifying. In the summer months, they celebrate a season of hauntings. What do two friends get themselves into when they try to complete a test of courage? Then back to the states to famously haunted Biltmore Hotel in Miami. A honeymoon gone sideways when a very strong message is sent to the lovebirds that they aren't welcome. A hotel steeped in history and crazy stories, this haunted hotel story is a classic. Lynze knows Dan and others will be divided on her first story, sharing the tale of a possibly powerful crystal that doesn't seem to be doing anyone any good. A couple of teenage kids get far more than they bargained for when they embark on a night time tour of the haunted house of Lunahuaná! Then for a little twist, Dan tells various tales of people who have worked on horror movies and have seen a whole lot more than they bargained for, when the cameras stopped rolling. Lynze has a life long haunting tale to tell of a woman who has been plagued by the same spirit her whole life. It would seem that this spirit showed up in her childhood and never left. Patient seemed incredibly lucid, showing no signs of psychosis. Charming, even. I asked about what she was seeing that no one else could see. “It was just a few weeks ago when it started,” she said, still in a neutral, lucid tone. "The odd rashes began coming and going, I felt something… moving… under my skin. I went into the bathroom so I could have the best possible light. It looked like… and now you’re really gonna think I’m crazy - it looked like a tiny little hand pushing against my skin from the inside. And soon, there was a second tiny hand pushing. Like a little person - or creature - inside of me trying to get out." Boy oh boy does Dan have some juicy tales to tell this week! The first story is especially terrifying. What if you could feel something inside of you, trying to get out, but no one believed you? When a diver needs to go down into the lock system, where she supposedly drowned, he isn't sure if what he is seeing during the routine cleaning is his imagination or something more. "And it was like the man could sense his fear. His grin got wider, green eyes shining with an evil amusement. If he ran, would the man run after him? Chase him? He’d just have to find out. " The Legend of Old Green Eyes has our taking a journey down south to Georgia! There is a local legend of an unknown soldier who was decapitated after being struck by a cannonball haunting the old battlefield of The Battle of Chickamauga. When a group of professional actors assemble to recreate this battle, it seems to upset Old Green Eyes. Possibly worse than being chased by the likes of a lost soul, is what you might be able to summon in a seance. Two friends get together and attempt to get in touch with someone or something beyond the veil. Just when it feels like they haven't been successful, they hear it, "Hello.... We're here...." and so begins their nightmare with the other side. Nursing homes are inherently creepy so when you add in a haunting and an attachment, it's safe to say there are spoops galore! A nurse seems to have let her curiosity get the best of her and has now opened some kind of ability for a spirit, or two or three, to visit her family. When your eyes play tricks on you, you might want to start trusting yourself. While we often catch glimpses of things that perhaps aren't there, we also, definitely see things that are for sure there. The legend of the Lai Tai (or Lai Thai) is one that will make you nervous to go to sleep at night, if you happen to be a young Thai man. This spirit sweeps through villages in Thailand, capturing the lives of men. Could you be next? Dan tells us all about the Lai Tai this week as a little warm up story. Then he brings us to McCook, Nebraska for the The Tale of the ghost of Devil's Canyon. When two friends embark on a day trip and one friend is really into exploring the paranormal, while the other friend tries to keep them safe, what could possibly go wrong when the creeper friend takes the reins? This is a classic campfire tale and Dan really brings you all of the chills with this one. Lynze has a heavy story to start with. The story is sad, spooky, and uplifting, all at once. "C whirled around, momentarily picking his eyes up from the floor, and he found himself staring straight into the mirror. And directly BEHIND him, he saw a dead man. A dead man who was weirdly blurry around the edges. As C watched, frozen and horrified, blood began to pour out of a hole in the man’s chest, spattering the floor, the walls, and even against C’s clothes" Our first tale is about The Hammersmith Ghost Murder Case! Starting in November 1803, the British citizens of Hammersmith were worried about the typical concerns of daily life we all still worry about - money, health, taxes, family squabbles, neighborhood crime, etc.They were also worried about something not of this world.They worried that something paranormal was going to attack them like it had allegedly already attacked some of their neighbors. Now, in our second story, we explore the lore of other cultures. Every culture in the world has its own unique spin on the supernatural. Every religion has their own demons - or demonic equivalents - including Hinduism. From what we understand, the Hindu religion teaches and warns about three primary groups of evil entities. First the Bhuts [ boots ] also sometimes called bhutas [boo tuhs]. The Bhuts are supernatural creatures - often called ghosts. Usually they are described as being the sprit of a deceased person, often considered to be perturbed and restless due to some factor that prevents the spirit from moving on.Next there are Pretas [ prey-tuhs ] - eternally hungry, zombie-like entities. They are the wandering, tortured souls of those who were false, corrupted, compulsive, deceitful, jealous or greedy in life.These dark entities wander the earth at all times, generally unable to be seen. Always miserable. Always looking to feed.And then there are the Pishachas [ pee shakas]. The worst of the dark spirits. What happens when one encounters a Pishacha? I’ve waited too long already” “Please,” Kira whispered, frozen in place, “you’re scaring me.” “I know,” said the man, flashing a predator’s toothy grin - “That’s why you come here, right? This story explores the concepts of the multiverse, an idea explored by many people. Could it be possible that our lives as we know them are only iteration of our lives? What would you do if everything you knew to be true, to be fact, was taken away from you? It's such a bizarre concept to dig into a new topic for some big creep factor on Scared To Death. It's Dan's second story that throws Lynze into a tizzy. Have you ever been in an amusement park and felt yourself overcome with fear of being lost? Or worse, being kidnapped? This story has so many layers of scares, there is no way you listen to it and get a good nights rest. Lynze brings three stories this week for a smattering of shadow people tales. "The mysterious man now noticed their headlights and turned to face them. He was hunched over, collar up, shielding himself from the rain. It looked like he was wearing some kind of long, shabby black coat.While continuing to stare at them, he took a few steps forward, and Sarah flinched back into her seat.Something was off. Who was this guy? No normal person would be standing on the overlook at this time of night, would they? Where was his car?" Dan has two truly creeptastic tales for you this week! He starts off with a bizarre and deadly plane crash that ends with the pilot going missing. But what if he isn't really missing, well, not really? Rumor has it that the ghost of Larry Stevens continues to haunt highway 107 in Greenville, South Carolina. It's entirely possible that a young couple not only saw him but gave him a ride, one dark and stormy night. Keeping the spoops going, Dan takes us up to Canada for tale of the possibly haunted school, Humber Heights Consolidated. The school had been used to house the dead after a hurricane struck the town in 1954. All of these years later, it would appear that some of those who were stored in the temporary morgue never did move on. Hear the tale of a Canadian law officer and his not one but two creepy experiences at Humber Heights! Do you remember the myth of bloody mary? Well, Lynze is ready to give you a refresher. "A strange and satisfied smile then appeared on his face and he asked, “Did you play with Masha?” He paused and then added, “Maybe she’s bored.” At that moment, the familiar sound of Masha’s music box rang through their home and Elvira jumped up in fear. Yuri also seemed afraid and he too stared at the doll in disbelief. Anatoly was unfazed. He was smiling now. “See…” he said calmly, “she’s just bored.” He then went over to the sofa to sit by the doll while his father held his trembling mother in his arms." Dan has two very odd and interesting stories this week! He starts off with the tale of The Dorothea Puente Murder House. This story is similar to a lot of the haunted tales that begin with murders we’ve told, but maybe scarier than most because while it’s typically the VICTIM or the VICTIMS of the murder that haunt a dwelling, in this tale, there’s seem to be some pretty good evidence that the killer that once roamed the rooms of the Dorothea Puente Murder House taking lives, may still be there today, possibly still taking lives. Then for story two, Dan covers some new ground by taking us to Russia for the creepiest doll story you have ever heard. It's disturbing on so many levels. We can't give to much away here so tune in to find out why the dolls are so very creepy! Lynze balances out the second half of the show with three tales, all with the theme of children. "And then soon, they went from concerned to outright scared when Kristine walked into the kitchen one day to see Natalia pouring Pine-Sol into Kristine’s coffee. Kristine says she ran over and stopped her immediately, hoping, praying, that Natalia was just messing around. But then when she asked Natalia what she was doing, she said that Natalia replied, “I’m trying to kill you.” " Dan takes us down a strange and peculiar story hole this week. His two stories are a bit off the beaten path. He starts with the story of a family who adopts a Ukrainian girl only to find out, she might not be who or what she claims to be. A lot of people have drawn a comparison between this story and the movie, "The Orphan". The movie existed before this strange occurrence, so who knows if the family was overreacting because they had seen the movie or if they were inspired to eliminate a threat to their family, quickly, because of the movie. The second story from Dan takes us to Pyramid Lake for some really peculiar details. From giant fish to water babies, Pyramid Lake seems to have some very interesting things living, or not so living, just under the water. Carrying on the theme of the strange and unexplained, Lynze has two juicy tales. The first one is of a haunted house. Perhaps the house didn't need to feel creepy, it could have been a kind spirit but it all took a turn for the south with a simple touch. Did this family accidentally invite something in when they began a remodel? You will think twice about painting your room after this one! In her second story, Lynze has a good old fashioned tale of the monster under the bed. Everyone has felt that kind of fear as a child but what would you do if you actually saw it? And she started speaking to her husband in that same foreign voice - a voice that was angry this time... And then this voice gave him the names — AND the phone numbers — of four different people Teresita knew who could identify this jewelry as belonging to Teresita. And then the voice, after urging him again to PLEASE contact the authorities - it went away again. His wife snapped out of her trance. " It's a bizarre episode of Scared to Death! Dan has two rather interesting stories that walk the fine line between true crime (which they are, for sure) and paranormal (which they might be, who knows?!). Dan kicks off the show with a very well documented death of Cindy Elizabeth Hack James. It's a topsy turvy twister. Cindy is a women who someone wants dead, but whom, or what, is after her? For SEVEN years, Cindy is harassed, attacked, stalked and eventually killed. But who is the killer? Then, in the second story of the show, Dan is certain he has evidence of the paranormal and after life. When a middle aged woman is found dead in her apartment, with no signs of forced entry and no enemies to speak of, it's just the beginning of the most bizarre murder mystery. Teresita was a popular and well liked woman, so when she turned up dead, the questions began swirling. Police would never have predicted just how they would solve this case. It would appear that Teresita was uninterested in finding eternal rest, until she brought her killer to justice, even from beyond the grave. This singular tale has Lynze somewhat excited for what might exist, beyond this world. Listen in closely and follow the details of this Scared To Death: Unsolved Mysteries episode. "He crawled up on top of where she lay. He sat down on her chest and stared into her eyes. And she could now see he wasn’t a little boy at all. He was something… else. Something dark and dead - a ghost of some kind. A monster. She actually told mom she thought he was a monster. And this little monster placed his hand on her chest this time, just below her neck and she felt the cold again. Colder than before. And she felt the fear. It was heavier than before." Dan brings a whole new kind of terror to his first story this week. What seems like your typical story of an older person starting to forget things and misplace things leads to a horrifying reality of no one believing an elderly woman about the "bad little boy" she keeps seeing. He comes to her, when she is in bed and alone, in the middle of the night. He whispers to her. He wants to take her. No one believes her and her nightmare takes a deadly turn. For story number two, Dan takes us to Cumae Archaeological Park, into dark tunnels. There are many mysteries and legends surrounding Cumae. When two young, broke college kids embark on a journey into the hidden parts of Cumae, they believe they are in the trusting hands of their tour guide. However, their tour guide has something very different in mind; he is looking for a different kind of gratuity for his hard work. Lynze opens her half of the show with a not so scary tale but a tale that makes you ask lots of questions, none the less. Reincarnation. Do you believe that we can come back to this world, even after we leave it? A sweet little boy seems to know far too much about things he couldn't know. His family is confused by the knowledge he possesses but they aren't scared. They are hopeful that this youngster is just a former family member. Then, in story two, Lynze takes us on a wild, wild haunted house ride. You will, for sure, need to suspend your rational self to accept this as reality. This weeks episode is EXTRA special!! Dan and Lynze recorded on the road, from one of the most haunted cities in America, NEW ORLEANS!! Dan and Lynze love NOLA, which is no secret. This week the pair was on the road and wanted to try out recording an episode while away from their recording studio in Coeur D'Alene, ID. As the world starts to reopen, Dan will be touring again for stand up, so now seemed like the perfect time to test out the traveling recording kit! With that out of the way, get ready for four stories that all take place in New Orleans! Does is get any spoopier than NOLA themed stories, recorded in NOLA. "Guests began to witness what they would later think was the Chef’s ghost in the dining rooms or near the front door. Sometimes smiling at a guest. A few even claimed he asked them if they’d enjoyed their meal. Does the Chef not know he’s dead? Has his love for Brennan’s tied him to the building? Is there something paranormally “sticky” about the location, for lack of a better term, that allowed hi spirit to be bound?" Dan has a great story to kick off the episode, about one of NOLA's most well known families, The Brennan's. The Brennan's own many restaurants in New Orleans and thus, have a hold on some of the oldest buildings. When one of their top chefs passes away, it would appear he is not quite ready to hang up his chef's hat. In his second story, Dan shares the tale of Louis Congo, a former slave turned executioner, and one man's possible encounter with him. Louis was freed from slavery only to be subjected to a whole different kind of hell. Did Louis enjoy torturing and killing people? Is it possible that his spirit still haunts Jackson Square, awaiting another person to break on the wheel? Lynze also has two very intense New Orleans stories. Taking place very near Jackson Square, a fan submits a story that begins at the Moon Walk. A security guard has the strangest encounter with someone that he can see but more importantly, can small. Is this a vision, a spirit or a homeless person? Stick with the story to find out if whatever it is, has the ability to leave the Moon Walk and follow the security guard to another location. In her second story, we offer a TW about suicide. Lynze shares the story of the NOLA Cannibal. Perhaps you have heard this tale. A story of drug use and mental illness combined with love and the aftermath of Katrina, a man murders and chops up his former lover, cooking and preserving her body. "One of the most intense incidents was when Ernie sat doing his schoolwork at the dining room table and he thought he saw movement from the side of the stove. He thought he saw a dark figure moving past him. A dark figure in the room with him. He soon caught the motion again out of the corner of his eye, and then, following it, he watched one of the pepper shakers from the top of the stove start to levitate before rapidly floating over and landing beside him. After getting spooped in story one, Dan takes up back to Japan to investigate multiple ghost sightings in the wake of the 2011 tsunami. These aren't your average ghosts who hide in the shadows. No. These ghosts are in plain sight, they look like they are alive, just like you and I. Lynze balances out the more traditional stories with two stories that may just get under your skin. To start, Lynze takes us on a hike and camping. When you are in the middle of nowhere with no one else close by, except your tent mate, and screams cut through the night air, you might not want to trust that those screams are human. For the last story of the show, we follow along one sisters journey of watching "the man" who seemed to be attached to her brother, until the end. Something about her terrified the local people - her uncommon height, her uncomfortably intense, piercing eyes. Locals thought she was a witch. Was she? Or just another victim of paranoid persecution? After experiencing Moll Dyer, stick around to explore the ghost ships that show up on the coast of Japan every year. Even skeptics who don’t believe in ghost ships, who find a ship’s crew completely missing or a ship showing up with a dead crew, to be pretty unsettling.
