The next story is the legend of The Curse of Ca’Dario. A Venetian mansion, built in the late 15th century, that might actually be cursed or at least extremely haunted. The first of Dan's stories is a very strange urban legend that someone posting a modern encounter story thinks is all too real. The strange, twisted legend of Kansas’s Hamburger Man. For the second story, we explore the rich paranormal history of Cornwall, England’s Bodmin Moor, focusing mainly on the old Bodmin Jail located at the edge of this large, preserved, mostly undeveloped land expanse of land. It’s a story about what seems to be a particularly deadly cursed object. It’s a random tale from a random forum - no real documentation with it. The second story shows up all over the place. The lore of the Toronto Tunnel Monster. Does a cryptid - or do multiple cryptids - dwell in the elaborate and massive system of tunnels that lie beneath Toronto? Dan will be taking everyone to the late 1930s, and to the Greater London area of England, to examine the haunting of Alma Fielding. In 1938, Alma Fielding, a 34-year-old housewife in Thornton Heath, a southern suburb of London, went to the press complaining of a poltergeist having invaded her home. Many, many people witnessed intense paranormal activity centered around Alma. The second story is the tale of a 19th century South Carolina woman who seems to have suffered an incredibly tragic death when she was accidentally buried alive. Does the ghost of Julia Legare still haunt her family’s tomb on Edisto Island, South Carolina? An area of the outdoors that has been rumored to be haunted for decades. I’ll share some lore and an intense modern encounter story. The second story is the sorcerers of Chiloé . In 1880, on an island off the coast of Chile, several residents were convicted of belonging to a secret society of warlocks using black magic to intimidate and in some cases, even murder. The trial uncovered some very, VERY strange local lore involving monsters, wizard duels, and ghost ship, and more. The first story comes from the Warren files. A lesser known tale of demonic infestation from Ed and Lorraine’s seminal book “The Demonologist”. We head to Vermont in 1974 to hear the disturbing tale of the Donovan family haunting. One woman’s Ouija board use seems to have led to contact with something that was NOT what it said it was - something that would terrorize the entire Donovan family for months. His next tale is known as the Exorcism of Gina. In 1991, ABC News’ iconic exposé news program 20/20 would air coverage of the exorcism of a teenage girl identified only as “Gina.” She’d be cured - BUT - did broadcasting what was supposedly her demonic possession lead to the demonic possessions of others? Lynze has a possible hat man sighting. A young mother notices the familiar feeling of her home feeling "off". The feeling escalates to an interaction with something. What does it want- her or her baby? Wrapping up the stories for this week is a tale about a family curse and possibly a warning about the family curse from a long dead family member. A man in Missouri is pulled into a dark mystery in his new home when his nightmares become real. If you have an old cellar this one might keep you from going down into it for quite awhile. The second story is historical A 19th century primarily-London based tale of the boogeyman known as Spring-Heeled Jack. Very odd and interesting. It's hard to figure out exactly what the hell was going with this entity that gave a lot of kids - and quite a few grownups as well it seems - nightmares back in Victorian England. Lynze has her two tales of terror as usual. Her first takes place in some military barracks with an entity that shows up during a party. Then to wrap it all up, Ms. Martha, a spirit living in a historical exhibit, makes it known that she doesn't appreciate anyone touching her things. "The tormenter called the Gillispies’ home phone. When Ron picked up, the caller declared he was observing the Gillispie house . Ron, furious, hung up and raced out the door with the intention of confronting him. Within minutes, he was speeding away in his truck. And he’d brought along a gun. And then a few hours later, Ron Gillispie was found dead behind the wheel."Dan has two out of the ordinary tales this week. He first shares with us the story of the Circleville Letters. A bizarre occurrence of random people who are all connected in some way, receiving letters from an anonymous sender. Much like The Watcher, we don't really know what's going on. Is it paranormal or just some creep, trying to wreak havoc? Next up, five young men disappeared in north central California after attending a college basketball game, and why they went to where some of their remains would later be found is still a mystery. Crazy twist at the end of that story that makes it real, real creepy. Lynze has some great stories for us too! Three sisters all see and hear something in their home. “What’s your friend’s name?” she asked her daughter, hoping for something innocuous. Maybe the name of a pet, like Fluffy, or one of her friend’s names from school. “Mr. Gordy,” Heidi replied. “We play outside on the swings and in my room.” Dan's first story covers the tale of the infamous Wyrick House. Although there isn't much known about the actual location of their home in Georgia, there is enough evidence of a haunting that an entire movie was based around this family's horrifying experience with a couple spirits. Dan's second story follows characters Maria and Akiko, who were simply looking to take a relaxing trip out of town. But their VRBO experience was anything but relaxing. Their woodsy cabin quickly turned into Hell on Earth. For Lynze's half of the episode, we explore some truly terrifying photos sent in by a listener, and then we wrap things up by spending some time in a haunted warehouse. A woman goes her whole life not knowing she was a twin while also seeing "herself" on and off for many years. Closing out the show is a simple story of someone or something knocking at the window. "As we got out of the car, we all froze. In the light, we saw very tiny handprints, like that of a six-year-old, all over our car."TW! TW! TW! Examples of suicide, sexual abuse, and murder are present in both of Dan's stories. The first is a shorter tale that Dan promised to share here after a recent episode of the Timesuck Podcast when he talked about the 1980 New Mexico Prison Riot. The now closed prison has been supposedly haunted ever since that riot, and today we explore those claims. His big second story is the tale of Maurice Theriault. A name that probably rings familiar to a lot of horror film fans. Infamous demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren of the Conjuring universe were part of an exorcism on Maurice in May of 1985. Lynze has her usual two stories but this week, it's a little bit different. She shares encounters from the same fan who has two unrelated experiences about 10 or so years apart. "Soft, dragging footsteps, growing steadily louder. Kyle held his breath. The footsteps grew louder - and he swore something brushed against his arm. It was ice cold. His heart was pounding. And then the footsteps seemed to pass them by...."Dan's first story is set in America, but the ritual carried out in this modern encounter tale comes from Japan. Tsuji-Ura [Sue-Gee Or-uh]. Better known as The Fortune Game. I LOVE this story. It’s all about how dangerous it can be to play around with trying to open doors into other worlds. For the first, shorter story, we’ll head to the UK, down by Portsmouth just North of the Isle of Wight, to explore the ghosts of Hinton Ampner. A story of hauntings that supposedly occurred back in the 18th century. Then, we are going to look into the crimes of midwest serial killer, Herb Baumeister, who buried numerous victims on his property in Indiana just north of Indianapolis in Carmel. Did his murders trap numerous spirits on Fox Hollow Farm, the beautiful estate where he lived and very, VERY likely murdered? Little true crime/haunted place mashup. Lynze has two excellent stories and follows in Dan's footsteps with a little warm up and then a big scare. "Now my mother stopped convulsing and sat up and got face to face with my grandmother. But her face did not look like it should have. And she spoke in Camila’s voice. She screamed in Spanish, “I’ll take EVERYONE FROM YOU, WITCH!” Dan's first story is not one that will jump right out and terrify you but it sure is bizarre and creepy. The Lawson House saw much tragedy around it over the years, literally. A fatal train crash and a series of fires that did not involve the house itself but perhaps came to be the place the lost souls took up residence. One day, a bizarre collection of mannequins arrived on the porch of the Lawson house, with out explanation. Where did they come from? Who was dressing them? Propping them up? Adjusting the poses? No one ever took credit for it and then one day, it just stopped. Weird. Then in story two, Dan takes us to South America to Argentina to explore a possible family haunting, foul play and multiple deaths. A family divide, a disagreement goes next level when one family member not only (possibly) kills one family member but also comes for others after her own death. It's a wild ride and will have you wondering if you should be making offerings to the saint of death. Lynze has 3 tales this week, so fun! She starts off with the most skeptical family, a family of non-believers who eventually all see the same inhuman woman in their dreams. "They’d only made it a few paces when Louise’s boot snapped loudly on a twig. She winced and froze. “I hear you,” The woman sang in a high pitched voice. “Keep walking,” Nathaniel whispered. They made it a few more paces, when Louise heard the distinct sound of a third person’s footsteps, directly behind her. Louise felt a hand reach out and firmly grip the back of her arm."Dan starts with his two stories, like normal, but they’re a bit bigger than usual. They both take place outside and are both classic ghost stories. The first comes from England - Wychwood Forest - and the ghost of Lady Amy Dudley. Does the spirit of a woman who died long ago still roam the forest, searching for the man who may have had her killed? And can she kill? The next story takes us to Southern Oregon - to an old cemetery in Cottage Grove - a town Lynze and Dan once drove right on by when moving from Santa Monica to Couer d’Alene. Did a young couple confront a ghost who still wants to guard his land?The second half of the show, Lynze brings us a story of a person who tells their tale of surviving an exorcism. So often on this show, there are questions about exorcisms and what might happen afterwards. Just last week, Dan told the tale of a woman who died soon after her exorcism. But not this guy. He lives to tell us all about it! Her second tale is beyond creepy. A young couple moves into an apartment, meet all of their neighbors- except one. “What floor?” I asked. “You first,” he said. “You first?” - “Who says that in an elevator?” Jesus. So creepy. Now I was starting to genuinely worry about this guy. Was I safe? Was he gonna attack me in the hotel elevator? Two middle-aged men duking it out? I pushed the 14th floor and he raised up his eyebrows, saying “Good choice! Me too. Safe travels.” I was just about to ask him what the Hell his deal was when the elevator doors closed and the lights all went out."The first story takes us to Dallas, Texas where a traveling businessman has a long travel day turn into a true nightmare when he meets a stranger at the hotel bar. It's a fun and scary story set in one of Dan's favorite horror locations - the haunted hotel. Next we head to upstate New York to explore the legend of The Flying Head. We’d classify it as…. a cryptid, we guess? This is a wild tale. We hope it’s not true. If it was, a pair of hunters had a bloody encounter with a monster - something supposed to be nothing more than an old Native American legend. Tale three is a bizarre and long standing relationship between a woman and a doppleganger. Or maybe it's more than one? It's hard to tell exactly what is happening and why. "After a few days of this, the monk and his nuns now carried her from her room and into the church, chaining her to a cross with her arms stretched out in a crucifixion pose while they doused her with holy water at the alter of Christ. As they watched her arms strain against the ties, they wondered if they were hurting her and should untie her." The first story is known as the The Tanacu Exorcism. What everyone agrees on with this story, is that in the Spring of 2005, a young nun named Maricica Cornici died after collapsing after being tied up for about a week in a Romanian monastery. What there is a lot of disagreement on is what led to her death. Did a monk and some nuns horribly handle a case of schizophrenia? Or - was this truly a case of demonic possession? The second story takes place in Garfield Heights, Ohio. An anonymous woman bought her first house and joy and pride quickly turn into paranormal terror. Very unique type of haunting that I can’t set up much without giving something away. But this one is probably gonna be hard to listen to if you hear it right before you go to bed and you live alone. Story three brings us to Cuba! A young girl takes a horse back riding trip while on a family vacation. She discovers what appears to be a stone altar and, unfortunately, removes a necklace from the stone altar. By doing so, she interrupts a tradition in Santeria that helps spirits move on to the other side. Then in the final story, a couple encounters a mischievous ghost in a Dublin pub! "Hanging from the ceiling. Swaying back and forth, holding that cross just like I’d heard, giant grin on her face, and those dark, hateful eyes staring right at me. And then her mouth moved as I heard her speak. “I knew you’d burn when you were a kid, Jason, and I know it now. Your dad is waiting for you. HELL! Hell WAITS!” A truly terrifying story of a murder turned ghost that haunts the woods of Lums Pond State Park, a beautiful park that flies under the radar! In the 1870s, an unnamed young woman from New Castle County ran away from home and ended up in what is now the park. This woman decided to camp out in the woods her first night away from home. A man found her and based on the state of her body as it was found later, he’d raped her and left her for dead. Before she died, some locals heard her screaming late it into the night, but they weren’t able to find her body until long after she died of her injuries. Her body wasn’t found for several days, actually. And her killer was never found. Then for story two, a very specific kind of haunting in a church basement, like one you will never forget. A woman from the local parish who was in charge of Bible study, one day, hanged herself in the church basement and it would appear, she still has not found peace in death. The back half of the show unintentionally takes on a theme of kids and attachments or hauntings, but in different ways. In story one, it would seem that a boy is born with the gift of seeing things that live beyond our realm, whether he likes it or not. In the final story of the show, a true skeptic gives into the other side when he is haunted repeatedly by the little blue boy with the maniacal grin. "We watched silently as Ronald swam towards his destination. And then suddenly…. Ronald disappeared from our view. He slipped under the water, hands flailing for a moment, before his hands sunk under as well. And he never came back up. Moments passed. We waited with bated breath for him to come up. Streaks of red appeared on the surface, pale at first, them blooming out into a giant scarlet cloud. Blood..." Dan takes us to Alaska to explore a new kind of folklore, a new entity we have not yet covered on Scared To Death. The Kushtaka. According to northern legends from southern Alaska , the Kushtaka are shape shifting creatures that are half man, half otter. Not a combo that is probably going to immediately strike fear into anyone hearts when that’s all you hear. When you think of an otter, you most likely think of a cute, water-loving little creature known for floating on its back and eating shellfish. But the Kushtaka is not some cute little creature. It’s a large, bigger-than-a-man, soul-stealing shape-shifter. After Alaska, we journey to Lancaster, Ohio to hear the tale of the Mudhouse Mansion. The history of this house is a troubled one that begins with a tortuous slave owner who abused one of his slave so severely that one night, the slave murdered the slave owner and his entire family. Thus begins the Mudhouse's many bizarre activities. In the back half of the show, Lynze has two tales. The first one, though small, is mighty. A woman has what would seem to be is a lucid dream, at least that's what she thought. She thought the creepy man with wide grin and black hat were simply a nightmare. That is until her child told her not to follow the man. How could her child know about her dreams before she even spoke of them? Was it a dream afterall? Then a story of a haunted trailer! Lynze loved this story because while it had a few moments of being tense, it was really more about confirmation of what a ghost might be capable of that is not necessarily terrifying. "The monster dug his claws into the hood of their car, the claws making a horrible screeching sound as they dented the metal. It used its grip to propel itself upward, jumping on the roof of the car with a loud, crunching thud. “Drive!” Lori screamed!This is it, Creeps and Peepers, the last episode of 2021!! We wish you and yours a healthy new year! In Dan's first story, we go to Aruba, Jamaica, ohhhhh I wanna take ya... WAIT. J/K! Just going to Aruba. A married couple takes a trip to reconnect and bring back the spark. All was going well until the final day of their trip. Jordan, the husband, insisted they leave on a late night flight and in order to make their flight. And to save time, they take a short cut. This short cut was the worst decision he made on that trip and it serves as a reminder to always trust your gut! Then off to Nebraska to Seven Sisters Road. A little road with a big history. A brother killed his seven sisters by luring them out, one at a time, to seven different hills where he hanged them. That energy seems to be hanging around to this day. A couple takes a short cut, just like the couple in Aruba, and will come to wish they hadn't!Lynze has 3 stories this week! Going out with a bang! Her first story is creepy BUT you need to look at the picture to really have it sink in as to why finding 20 wooden crosses in a clearing during a hike is so damn scary. Then in story two, we visit a family who has two ghost kids living in their house. They seem to be totally harmless until one night, which is always how it goes. This time though, the kids might be the only thing that can save them. And then wrapping up 2021, a story about an encounter in insane asylum during a routine training!
