Bonus Episode: Joy Ike - Won't You Be My Neighbor?

Bonus Episode: Joy Ike - Won't You Be My Neighbor? Joy Ike is a Pittsburgh based singer and songwriter whose music, voice, and writing have drawn comparisons to great female musicians like Nina Simone, Laura Nyro, and Regina Spektor. Her polished, precise and graceful music defies easy categorization. A write-up on NPR's All Things Considered says "The depth of subjects she tackles in her poetic lyrics are perfectly complemented by a unique blend of neo-soul, with just the right dash of pop...a truly compelling act to watch in person, with the ability to create an intimate setting in locations big and small."Recently Joy released a brilliant cover song and music video for the Mister Rogers Neighborhood Theme song, “Won’t You Be My Neighbor”. She has stopped by our podcast neighborhood for a visit today and I am just thrilled have her with us. Ryan Clair - Among The Pines - Episode 354

Episode 354: Ryan Clair - Among The Pines Born and raised in a small mountain community in southern California, Ryan Clair was the first born child to a young mom who did all she could to raise a kid amidst trials, heartache and broken relationships. Though she didn't play, music was something Ryan's mother shared with him at an early age. Music has a way to help escape reality and bring a sense of joy and peace in the moments of pain and uncertainty. In his early teens, Ryan Clair picked up his guitar and spent much of his life playing in bands, finding out who he was as a musician.A few years later, a now married Ryan Clair, a father of 5, has reached a place where he feels at home in his life and his music.Ryan writes songs that tell his story, a journey of faith as a follower of Jesus Christ. In 2018 Ryan Clair's 'Less Traveled Road' LP introduced us to his impressive, gritty, southern rock chops with an absolute barn burner of a record. The year 2019 found Ryan adjusting course in more ways than one: he made the westward move to the scenic Pacific Northwest where, inspired by his new surroundings, he penned a starkly minimal sophomore album. This brings us to the present:His newest album,Among the Pines, released on January 24th, 2020. 'Among the Pines' is a musical journey of the soul with Clair positioned as the narrator on a solo trek through the mountains. Intentionally never reaching the sheer rock bigness his previous album had, he instead steers into an alt-country simplicity that flows from song to song.Ryan Clair is here to for visit with us today! Episode 353: Rick Lee James Thunder Radio Special

Episode 353: Rick Lee James Thunder Radio SpecialIn partnership with CRW Radio Promotions, singer, songwriter and worship leader Rick Lee James debuts a brand new radio special. The “Thunder Radio Special” can be heard exclusively on James’ official YouTube channel or his website. It was also recently added to Spotify and Apple Music. Radio stations interested in airing the “Thunder Radio Special” can contact Kathryn Ambrose at CRW Radio Promotions at [email protected] new radio special highlights five songs from James’ critically-acclaimed 13-track album, Thunder, released in February, and features his thoughtful commentary on each selection. “I think part of the reason we often connect so deeply with a song is that the story behind it draws us in and gives us a deeper connection with both the music and the artist,” James reflects. “The powerful thing about the format of a documentary-style radio special like this one is that it allows me to share my heart through both the songs and the stories.”Throughout the half-hour special, James shares the story behind the project’s title track—a previously unreleased song co-written by the late Rich Mullins. In addition, the singer reveals his thoughts surrounding the deeply personal “The Lord Is Our Shepherd,” a song he wrote as a love letter to the multiple children he and his wife have lost to miscarriage. Other selections spotlighted on the radio special include “Whom Have I In Heaven But You (Psalm 73),” “Glory To God The Trinity (Trinity Hymn)” and “Stay.”Just like he creates thought-provoking conversations around the songs he writes and records, James has become a well-known podcaster, sparking dialogue with a variety of well-known artists. He’s recorded well over 300 episodes for his official podcast, “Voices In My Head,” where he’s interviewed leading singer/songwriters, including Andrew Peterson, Sara Groves and Keith Getty, among others. In addition, he recently launched a limited series podcast called “Welcome To The Neighborhood,” in memory of the beloved Fred Rogers. Personally inspired by Mister Rogers and the wisdom he shared over his lifetime, James launched a Twitter account @MisterRogersSay in 2017, where he posts quotes from the iconic children’s television star. The account is currently averaging 1K new followers each week. For James, it’s simply one more way to spread the Gospel message.“I honestly believe that running the Mister Rogers Quotes account @MisterRogersSay has been one of the best ministries of my life,” he shares. “Fred Rogers always reminded us, with his Christlike spirit, that we are people who are dearly loved and that everyone has worth. All these years after he passed away, it’s amazing to see the impact on our lives that his words still have, because they were spoken in truth and love.”The first six episodes of the exclusive “Welcome To The Neighborhood” podcast can be heard HERE.Request the “Thunder Radio Special” at www.crwradiopromotions.com. In 2017, Stephen released his first collection of congregational songs called Centerpiece: Songs of Gospel Community. The songs on Centerpiece were born of Stephen’s experience serving as an elder in his church and walking with his community through the complexities of wrestling with Scripture and believing the Gospel in every area of life. Because of the album’s underlying theme of community, Stephen enlisted the help of a number of friends and worship leaders to bring the songs to life. Bonus Episode: Shea Tuttle Exactly As You Are: The Life and Faith of Mister Rogers

Bonus Episode: Shea Tuttle Exactly As You Are: The Life and Faith of Mister Rogers Fred Rogers fiercely believed that all people deserve love. This conviction wasn’t simply sentimental: it came directly from his Christian faith. God, he insisted, loves us just the way we are. In the book, Exactly as You Are, Shea Tuttle looks at Fred Rogers’s life, the people and places that made him who he was, and his work through Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. She pays particular attention to his faith—because Fred Rogers was a deeply spiritual person, ordained by his church with a one-of-a-kind charge: to minister to children and families through television. Tuttle explores this kind, influential, and sometimes surprising man: the neighborhood he came from, the neighborhood he built, and the kind of neighbor he, by his example, calls all of us to be. Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 341: David Weissman's Journey From The Trump Troll To Peacemaker

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 341: David Weissman's Journey From The Trump Troll To Peacemaker Can a person change? How does a person change?Romans 12:2 says, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."With that in mind, if you change the way you think, can you change your life?My guest today on Voices In My Head is blogger and activist David Weissman. David is a person of the Jewish faith. He is also writer for The Times of Israel https://www.timesofisrael.com/ David was born in New York and served in the US Army for 13 years, with two deployments to Afghanistan. He is a former Republican has now joined the Democratic party and is doing his best to fight for the rights of others. That isn’t interesting part of the story however. We all know Republicans, and we all know Democrats and chances are that they are our good friends and family, even if we aren’t all on the same page together. What is so fascinating about David’s story wasn’t just a Republican. And it wasn’t just that he was a staunch Republican. David was a full throated Trump supporter and in fact was Trump Troll online. The fact that he now supports Elizabeth Warren should tell you that there has been a change. To quote David:"After learning to decipher the news for myself, and after many hard conversations with many conservatives and liberals — including Sarah Silverman — I have learned that you shouldn’t take a pundit at their word. It’s good and healthy to question everything and to be skeptical of partisan “journalists.” David's Political views are his own. The purpose of today’s show is not to endorse any political party, but to have a discussion about change and how it is possible, and to listen to a person who has had a major change in his life. Episode Eight: The Self-Control of Fred Rogers

Welcome To The Neighborhood: A Mister Rogers Tribute PodcastEpisode Eight: The Self-Control of Fred RogersIn 1968 Fred Rogers wrote a song that asks some important questions: "What do you do with the mad that you feel When you feel so mad you could bite? When the whole wide world seems oh, so wrong... And nothing you do seems very right? What do you do? Do you punch a bag? Do you pound some clay or some dough? Do you round up friends for a game of tag? Or see how fast you go?It's great to be able to stop When you've planned a thing that's wrong, And be able to do something else instead And think this song:I can stop when I want to Can stop when I wish I can stop, stop, stop any time. And what a good feeling to feel like this And know that the feeling is really mine. Know that there's something deep inside That helps us become what we can. For a girl can be someday a woman And a boy can be someday a man."-Fred Rogers Like to read? Episode Seven: The Gentleness of Fred Rogers

Welcome To The Neighborhood: A Mister Rogers Tribute PodcastEpisode Seven: The Gentleness of Fred Rogers"Most of us, I believe, admire strength. It's something we tend to respect in others, desire for ourselves, and wish for our children. Sometimes, though, I wonder if we confuse strength and other words--like aggression and even violence. Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 335: Simple Hymns - Songs of Redemption

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 335: Simple Hymns - Songs of RedemptionOn August 30th, Venture3Media (V3M) launched its Simple Hymns series with the release of the album Simple Hymns: Songs of Redemption. The project features such well-known worship leaders as Pat Barrett (Housefires), Chris McClarney (Jesus Culture), Leigh Nash (Sixpence None the Richer), Dan Koch, Anthony Skinner, Aaron Keyes and more. This 10-hymn album is available at iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play and more digital and streaming outlets globally. Here today to talk to us more about the Simple Hymns series is Steve Nicolle, President and CEO of Venture3 MediaThe first of several new recordings in the Simple Hymns series to release over the next year, Songs of Redemption combines classic Hymns with a fresh interpretation, some with additional lyrics, as well as new songs that have been written and recorded in a hymn-like style and focusing on the Majesty and Greatness of God. “Simple Hymns is a response to those that long for a return to a richer and more lyric focused worship expression, combined with a simplicity of musical instrumentation,” shares Venture3Media president and founder Steve Nicolle. “Worship music shifts in style from decade to decade, along with shifts in lyrical themes and focus. What makes the hymns so unique and special is their ability to stand the test of time. When times become more turbulent or uncertain, we tend to hold to things that have endured. Hymns give us that anchor, and remind us that God’s love and His nature are unchanging." Some of the classic hymns in this first Simple Hymns installment include songs written by Fanny Crosby, Charles Wesley and John Newton, with Newton’s “Amazing Grace” receiving additional lyrics written by Chris Tomlin and Louie Giglio. This song, “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone),” was newly recorded by Barrett.Other featured tracks include “Like A Wideness Of The Sea” written and performed by Skinner, “Psalm 62” written by Keyes and Stuart Townend and performed by Keyes, “Blessed Redeemer” sung by Nash and written by Crosby with modern interpretation by McClarney, Chris Eaton and John Hartley, and “All To Jesus (I Surrender)” written by JW Van Deventer with a fresh interpretation by Paul Oakley and performed by Brady Toops and Michal Mitha. Along with the new music, compelling acoustic videos of all the songs being sung by the artists were recorded and are featured on a companion Simple Hymns: Songs of Redemption Digital Deluxe Apple/iTunes exclusive version of the album. “These hymns and videos are purposefully simple with acoustic instrumentation, nothing overproduced to allow them to be sung by worship leaders in the most unplugged setting, or added to the worship music song selections in any sized church,” says Nicolle. “These Simple Hymns are also well suited as a background for personal worship, reflection and devotions.” Future Simple Hymns releases that are already being developed will feature hymns set around communion, worship, praise, Christmas, Easter and more. Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 332: Jennifer M. Greenberg - Not Forsaken: A Story of Life After Abuse: How Faith Brought One Woman From Victim to Survivor

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 332: Jennifer M. Greenberg - Not Forsaken: A Story of Life After Abuse: How Faith Brought One Woman From Victim to Survivor —“Isn’t it tragic that in a world so beautiful and diverse, a defining feature we all have in common is pain?”Jennifer M. Greenberg knows pain all too well, having suffered psychological, physical, and sexual abuse at the hands of her church-going father. At the age of 15, as she contemplated suicide with a razor to her arm, she heard the voice of God say to her, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” From that moment on, she knew she had a father in heaven who loved her. She knew she had a purpose in life on this earth. In her new book, Not Forsaken: A Story of Life After Abuse: How Faith Brought One Woman From Victim to Survivor (The Good Book Company, Aug. 20, 2019), Greenberg shares how her faith brought her through the darkest of situations, time and time again, and how faith can enable survivors of all walks to navigate issues of guilt, forgiveness, love, and value. She also encourages church leaders to take the necessary measures to protect the vulnerable amongst them. Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 330: Ben DeLong - There's A God In My Closet: Encountering The Love Who Embraces Our Skeletons There's a God in My ClosetEncountering the Love Who Embraces Our SkeletonsAuthor Ben DeLongForward: Brad Jersak Many have been taught to see God as a terrifying agent of wrath who spews anger at any sign of imperfection. At the same time, they’ve been taught that they are inherently flawed and devoid of goodness. Where does that leave us? For Ben DeLong, it left him hiding his skeletons from the monster he believed God to be. This proved to be a perfect recipe for anxiety, depression, and insecurity. But what if God accepts our skeletons? What if he actually embraces them in love? How would that change our outlook? For Ben, it changed everything. This book is about his journey to find what was always true: we are eternally embraced by God, skeletons and all, and he is never letting go Buy The Book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1532658710/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1532658710&linkCode=as2&tag=rickleejame00-20&linkId=a9a2f03a8b4aa7dac447d1327d0e8208Ben DeLong’s Web Site: https://www.bdelong.com/As always, thank you for listening to Voices In My Head.
