In May of 2018 I participated in a small forum with attendees of Lexington Calvary Church of the Nazarene on Worship As Spiritual Formation. Matthew Cole is a Pastor, an adjunct theology professor at Asbury University, and a great friend. He is also one of th emost gifted preachers I have ever had the privilege of hearing. Today I wanted to feature a sermon from a service I did with Matthew at his church in Lexington Kentucky at Calvary Church of the Nazarene. There are few spiritual masters who have touched my life in the way that the late Thomas Merton has. His book, "Life and Holiness" is one of the finest books on holiness that I have ever read. In a journalism career spanning more than three decades, Tim has written for the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Politico, Reader's Digest, and for thirty years the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Tim's books included the critically acclaimed The Burning: Massacre, Destruction, and the Tulsa Race Riot of 1921; and a novel of the Greatest Generation and the aftermath of World War II, Every Common Sight. It was a 1995 assignment for the Star-Telegram that led to Tim's interview with Fred Rogers, the icon of children's television, and a close friendship between the two men that last until Rogers' death in 2003. Kevin C. Neece is the author of the Gospel According to Star Trek series (Cascade Books) and a speaker on media, the arts and pop culture from a Christian worldview perspective. It’s the 500th anniversary of the start of the Protestant Reformation.To “reform” is to improve or amend something that is wrong, corrupt, or unsatisfactory. With that definition in mind we thought it would be a great idea to record a conversation about whether or not there is a need for reformation in Christian music.If there is anyone qualified to have this discussion it is Dave Trout of UTR Media.Dave has been in Christian radio in some form or fashion for over 23 years. He has worked for WETN-FM in Wheaton IL, WCFL-FM in Morris IL, Moody Radio, and ReFrame Media. He started the “Under The Radar” radio show in 2008 while working at ReFrame, and in 2014 that show became its own independent non-profit ministry, under Dave’s oversight. In 2017, the organization underwent a creative relaunch, and now produces a wider variety of media projects under the new name, UTR Media.
