Dad believed in God but didn’t believe in religion. I remember the day I asked him about it. We we on top of a mountain taking a break on our trail ride. I asked if he believed in God and he said yes. Then I asked why we didn’t go to church. He said, “look around. Look at where we are. We’re in church.” I tried reading the whole Bible but couldn’t get past the guys living 800 years or past the question of where Adam and Eve’s kids found wives if everybody came from Adam and Eve. Having said that, I believe the Bible could be a great instrument for good if there weren’t so many people using it as a weapon against others. This is a public episode. If we want to solve the gun violence question then we have to do something different. I don’t know if this is my best episode or not but I know it’s one of my favorites so far. When I started editing to try and get it down to a 20-30 minute version for free subscribers and a longer one for paid subscribers, I was able to cut about 10 minutes and I’m at just under an hour. One of the goals of my podcast is to expose people to the idea that politics is all of us and not what we see portrayed on TV. I think Steve is a great example of that. He’s using his intellect and his experience to study our history, couple it with our current reality, and inform people. This is a part of our political process that folks don’t think about as being a part of the process.
