Ep 8787. Warning Signs of Spiritual Manipulation: How I Escaped a Cult with Peter Young
Can you recognize the warning signs when someone you love is being spiritually manipulated?Today's conversation with Peter Young, real estate professional and author, is a sobering reminder that spiritual deception can happen to anyone—even lifelong Christians.Peter grew up in a strong Christian home, accepted Christ, was baptized, and read his Bible cover to cover multiple times. Then he married a woman who brought a "family guru" named Uncle Robert into their marriage—a man who would control their lives for the next 20 years.Uncle Robert taught that casinos were the true churches. He convinced Peter's wife she wasn't saved until he pointed it out. He told Peter's father-in-law he was on par with a cockroach. Slowly, like a frog in boiling water, Peter found himself brainwashed for two years. The turning point came when his wife left and Uncle Robert told their five children that Peter was just a "sperm donor and bloodline"—not a real father. That's when the lies started to crack. It took a full year for Peter to realize it wasn't his fault and he wasn't crazy.Peter learned three critical lessons: First, a strong Christian marriage needs Christ at the center—not a parent, priest, or guru. Second, isolation from the body of Christ makes you vulnerable to false teachers. Third, salvation comes before sanctification—anyone switching that order is acting as a gatekeeper to God.Redeem Your Business Today by the Following:How can we honor God in our business?Be honest—period. You're either honest or you're not. Truth doesn't mind being questioned.Stay connected to the body of Christ. Isolation makes you vulnerable. Fellowship and accountability protect you from deception. One challenge from today:If someone you love is headed down a dangerous road—whether a cult or spiritual deception—don't shy away from the hard conversation. Be loving, be kind, but be bold. They don't know they're in trouble. You see it, but they don't.More About Peter YoungWebsite: https://www.authorpeteryoung.com/Book: Stop the Tall Man, Save the LionMore About David SchmidtFree Resource: What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for the Modern BusinessSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Book a call: Get Unstuck and Move ForwardWebsite: redeemingbusinesstoday.comLinkedInDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:Leadership GPS: Christian Business CoachingAre you looking to integrate your faith and business but don't know where to start, book a time to discover if Christian business coaching and training might be right for you. Ep 8686. Biblical Business Principles: Stewardship, Surrender, and Success with Karl Diffenderfer
Is Jesus really the CEO of your business—or just in name only?Today's conversation with Karl Diffenderfer, coach for coaches and author, challenges us to move beyond the label and into the reality of surrendering our business to God.Karl started a marketing company at 24 and sold it at 32. During those years, clients came in to talk about logos but ended up sharing the deepest parts of their hearts. He realized God had given him a gift for discernment, so he became a coach. He's now done over 10,000 coaching sessions. His biggest lesson? He was burning out doing everything God told him to do—until God showed him a picture. Karl was pushing ahead, trying to drag God along in the yoke instead of going at God's pace. God gave him four statements that changed everything: Slow down. Go at my pace. Do what I say. Trust me.Karl learned that success isn't about revenue or impact—it starts in his relationship with the Lord. Spending time in God's Word each day became his true success criteria. Everything else flows from that. The challenge: We can't educate people beyond their level of obedience. If you're not sowing time into client acquisition, you won't reap clients. God's principles apply to everything.Redeem Your Business Today by the Following:How can we honor God in our business?Slow down enough to hear God's voice. Five practices create space: time in the Word, worship, prayer, journaling, and the body of believers. Your job isn't productivity—it's diligence. Results belong to God.Walk in humility, not pride. Surrender isn't something you can work on—you have to lay it at His feet and let Him be in charge. One challenge from today:Are you spending time in God's Word every day? Don't read it to become a better Christian—read it to know Him better. The Word is the only book where the Author shows up and changes you just by being there.More About Karl DiffenderferWebsite: www.HigherImpact.meTurnkeycoachingsystem.comMore About David SchmidtFree Resource: What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for the Modern BusinessSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Book a call: Get Unstuck and Move ForwardWebsite: redeemingbusinesstoday.comLinkedInDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:Leadership GPS: Christian Business CoachingAre you looking to integrate your faith and business but don't know where to start, book a time to discover if Christian business coaching and training might be right for you. Ep 8585. Building a Leadership Pipeline: Biblical Principles for Christian Entrepreneurs with Josh Williams
Are you overlooking the leader right in front of you?Joshua Williams has spent 16 years in youth ministry watching problematic teenagers become faithful leaders a decade later. His approach? Don't look for the most talented—look for availability and willingness. One student crossed so many lines that Joshua had to pull him from youth group for three months. But he didn't stop investing. He kept meeting with him, kept pouring into him. Today, that "problematic" student is thriving in his walk with God and raising up leaders himself. The lesson applies to your business: Sometimes the person who annoys you most is exactly opposite your personality—which means they bring something valuable you're missing. Don't surround yourself with carbon copies. Look for puzzle pieces with different strengths.Joshua learned the hard way that you can't carry weight God didn't give you. Do what God called you to do, then trust Him with the rest. If you've been faithful and it doesn't succeed by the world's standards, you've still succeeded in God's eyes.Redeem Your Business Today by the Following:How can we honor God in our business?God has entrusted people to you. Your job isn't to dominate but to love them first and raise them up as an example of Christ.Don't expect perfection before investing. Coach emerging leaders through their struggles rather than only promoting the "safe" choices. One challenge from today:Is there someone you've written off because they're difficult? Maybe God put them there for you to pour into. Plant that seed. You might be surprised what grows.More about Josh Williams https://www.youtube.com/@BeyondTheNumbersPodcastMore About David SchmidtFree Resource: What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for the Modern BusinessSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Book a call: Get Unstuck and Move ForwardWebsite: redeemingbusinesstoday.comLinkedInDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for Modern BusinessIf you want to go deeper in your walk with God and integrate your faith and business this is the tool to make it happen. Ep 8484. How to Develop a Biblical Mindset in Business | Neuroplasticity and Faith with Deanna Becket
Can your brain actually be rewired from negative to positive?Today's conversation with Deanna Beckett, author and speaker, tackles the stories we tell ourselves and how they shape everything we do in business.Deanna spent years dragging bitterness and guilt into her work and relationships. Through Bible study and daily thought-resetting, she learned something critical: What goes in comes out. Garbage in, garbage out.She talks about neuroplasticity: How our brains can be rewired from dead, gnarly branches into something healthy and growing. But you can't just remove a bad habit and leave a hole. You have to replace it with something good. The workplace reality? More than half of conversations at work are probably negative. That doesn't just waste time—it attracts more negativity and keeps you stuck.Deanna's daily practice: She rewrites Bible verses in first person and speaks them out loud. "He gives me the ability to produce wealth." Instead of scrolling social media and feeling anxiety creep up, she shuts it off and tackles what she's been avoiding. One shift that changes everything: Replace "I have to" with "I get to." Add "yet" to complaints. "I'm not where I want to be... yet."Redeem Your Business Today by the Following:How can we honor God in our business?Control what you can control—your attitude and your response. You can't control other people's reactions or circumstances, but you can choose grace when someone's having a rough day.Chase peace intentionally. Redirect negative conversations at work or remove yourself from them entirely. One challenge from today:Shift two words tomorrow morning. Instead of "I have to go to work," say "I get to go to work." Pay attention to how that small change affects your whole day. Everybody's fighting a battle you know nothing about—be gracious.More About Deanna Becketwww.deannabecket.comwww.shockingyourshtick.comMore About David SchmidtFree Resource: What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for the Modern BusinessSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Book a call: Get Unstuck and Move ForwardWebsite: redeemingbusinesstoday.comLinkedInDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for Modern BusinessIf you want to go deeper in your walk with God and integrate your faith and business this is the tool to make it happen. Ep 8383. How I Crashed My Business and Found God's Purpose | Entrepreneurial Story with David Schmidt
Have you ever felt like an imposter in your own business?I refinanced my house and bought into a coaching franchise in 2021, convinced the systems would carry me to success. Within a month, I knew I'd made a mistake.I wasn't the expert in business they thought I was. I had an inferiority mindset. And I was trying to operate the franchise's version of who I was supposed to be instead of being authentic to how God made me.For six months, I watched myself crash. As an analytical engineer, I knew I was failing but didn't know how to stop it. The depression was crushing—until June 30th, 2022. That's the day I quit, and it became the best day of my life.God's grace kept me going with clients I didn't deserve while I worked a W-2 job. He gave me a coach whose personality actually complemented mine. And He convicted me with a question I'd been asking my own kids: Your success is directly correlated with your relationship with God—so why doesn't your coaching content reflect that? That question changed everything. I stopped trying to help businesses chase bigger profits and started focusing on what I'm passionate about—helping Christian business owners operate God's way through Leadership GPS: God first, Purpose, then Service.Redeem Your Business Today by the Following:How can we honor God in our business?Be authentic to who God created you to be. When you try to operate someone else's version of your business, you'll crash. There's room for you exactly as you are.Get the right coach—one who aligns with your beliefs and complements your personality. In coaching, personality matters. One challenge from today:Ask yourself: Am I doing business God's way, or am I conforming to the world's philosophy? We've been stained by the world's patterns for so long we think they're normal. Ep 8282. How to Connect With Your Kids When You've Been Too Busy With Work with Lori Beard
Many business leaders have work figured out but come home and sit on the sidelines while their kids do their own thing. If you've realized you need to spend more time with your kids but don't know where to start, this is for you.Lori Beard is a life coach, podcast host, and mother of eight celebrating 32 years of marriage. She shares practical ways to break through when your kids are busy with their own lives, why humility bridges connection, and how service projects carve lasting values into hearts. The truth: Relationships are the only thing you'll take with you. Not money, houses, or business success.Redeem Your Business Today by the Following:How can we honor God in our business?Value relationships over revenue. Practice active listening—listen to learn, not to judge. Ask your kids: "How can I be a better dad? What makes my questions feel like interrogation?"One Challenge from Today:It's never too late for humility. Own up to your mistakes with your children and tell them, "I'm sorry I did this." Ep 8181. How to Build Trust in Business: The 4 Habits of Referability with James MacNeil
The Four Referability Habits: Build Trust That Grows Your BusinessSadly, Christians aren't always known as the best employees or business partners. If we're followers of Jesus, we're called to show our light through good work—and it's simpler than you think.James MacNeil has built three seven-figure businesses on one principle: "no surprise, but good surprise"—always delivering more than promised. He shares four referability habits from Dan Sullivan that transform how people perceive your business. The tragic truth? James says he'd be $10 million ahead if he hadn't done business with Christians who failed to keep their word. The Four Habits: Show up on timeDo what you say you're going to doFinish what you startSay please and thank you. Redeem Your Business Today by the Following:How can we honor God in our business? The first promise you make is 100% evidence that you're either completely trustworthy or completely untrustworthy. Make and keep commitments—it's the fastest path to building trust and flourishing relationships.Remember: the business of business is to profitably solve problems. We profit when we deserve it, and deserve means "from service." If you're not earning enough, you're likely not serving enough. One Challenge from Today:Make as few promises as possible and keep them all. Before you say yes, count the cost. Ep 8080. The Christian Mindset About Money: Should Believers Pursue Wealth? With Gino Barbaro
Should Christians pursue wealth? The Bible seems to send mixed messages about money. It says, "Better is little with the fear of the Lord" but also "By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honor, and life." So what should our mindset be as Christian business owners?Today I'm talking with Gino Barbaro, a certified money coach and real estate investor who homeschools his six kids. He's learned hard lessons about money, scarcity, and what God wants for us.Gino shared a powerful quote: "Money does not corrupt an individual—it reveals the individual." If you want to create impact and serve families, you'll need to make money. Money is just a tool.Legacy isn't just financial—it's three things: human capital (faith), intellectual capital (wisdom), and financial capital (resources). Without the first two, wealth disappears.Gino was paralyzed by fear during the 2008 recession, stuck in victim mentality. His turning point came when he stopped being a victim and got clarity on where he wanted to go.Four Steps to Change Your Money Mindset:Stop being a victimGet clarity on what you wantGo easy on yourselfExamine your money biography—what you heard about money as a kid is still playing on repeatWe don't own anything. God owns everything. We're stewards. Profit is the fuel, not the destination. How can we honor God in our business?By keeping Jesus at the center. By being stewards, not owners. By using money as fuel for legacy—not the destination. One challenge from today:Examine your money mindset. Ep 7979. How to Choose a Business Coach: 3 Things to Check First with Kevin Weis
How do you know if a coach is right for you?Not every coach will be a good fit—even if they're getting great results for other people. Today's guest, Kevin Weiss from The Contrarian Way, learned this the hard way when he hired a coach with a five-figure price tag, made all his money back in the first month, and then fired him anyway.Kevin is a coach for Christian coaches who built his business on one simple rule from Matthew 7:12 "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." When you apply this to business—how you market, sell, and serve—it changes everything.Kevin shared his story of running a kettlebell studio with his wife. They hired a coach who got them results immediately, but the tactics felt manipulative and they got delegated to someone else. Three things were misaligned: the person, the process, and the product. The Three AlignmentsPerson: Do your values align? Look at their content—are they real people or just a polished highlight reel?Process: Does the way they coach feel right? When misaligned, your values start changing, you burn out, or you walk away.Product: Will you work with the coach you're hiring or get delegated to a different coach? Is the meeting structure sustainable? You can survive one misalignment. But when all three are off, someone's going to hate showing up to the coaching sessions.Watch for high-pressure sales tactics demanding immediate decisions. A great coach gives you space to pray and discern fit. Tunnel vision for results makes you ignore warning signs. The end does not justify the means—getting results while compromising your values isn't worth it.How can we honor God in our business?By aligning ourselves with God first. Seek first His kingdom. When you align with what matters most, everything else—including how you choose a coach—falls into place. One challenge from today:Do a self-check on the person, process, and product before hiring a coach. Are they aligned with who you are and who you want to be?More About Kevin WeisWebsite: The Contrarian WayFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/thekevinweisYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thekevinweisMore About David SchmidtFree Resource: What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for the Modern BusinessSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Book a call: Get Unstuck and Move ForwardWebsite: redeemingbusinesstoday.comLinkedInDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:Leadership GPS: Christian Business CoachingAre you looking to integrate your faith and business but don't know where to start, book a time to discover if Christian business coaching and training might be right for you. Ep 7878. Character-Driven Leadership: Why Character is Your Competitive Advantage with VIP Leadership Group
What makes a leader worth following?Today I'm talking with three leaders from three different cultures, united by one mission—to help leaders rise with values, integrity, and principles. Dr. Makki, Coach Attala, and Dr. Leroy McKenzie Jr. are the co-founders of the Character Driven Leadership Cafe, a movement confronting the real cracks in modern leadership.Leadership is lacking in today's world. We see it everywhereLeaders who talk about values but don't live themOrganizations that prioritize performance while burning out their peopleCultures built on control instead of connection. The CDL Cafe was born from Dr. Makki's observation sitting with his morning coffee: leadership failures aren't just about strategy or skill—they're about character. The cafe offers Table Talk Wednesdays, resources, and a community where leaders learn to lead from the inside out.VIP Leadership stands for Values, Integrity, and Principles—the three pillars of character-driven leadership. This isn't about adding skills on top of a hollow foundation. It's about becoming the kind of person others want to follow because you genuinely serve them. The business case for character is clear: connected employees perform better. People who feel seen and valued share their best ideas. Stressed, burned-out employees don't. And that energy transfers to your clients and customers. How can we honor God in our business?By leading with character—privately and publicly. By choosing discipline over convenience. By loving the people we lead, not just using them for productivity. God cares about who we're becoming, not just what we're accomplishing. One challenge from today:Write down your Personal Value System—the 3-5 principles that define who you want to be as a leader. Then ask yourself honestly: Am I living these out, or are they just decoration?More About VIP Leadership GroupLinkedInYouTube: @cdlcafeMore About David SchmidtFree Resource: What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for the Modern BusinessSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Book a call: Get Unstuck and Move ForwardWebsite: redeemingbusinesstoday.comLinkedInDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for Modern BusinessIf you want to go deeper in your walk with God and integrate your faith and business this is the tool to make it happen. Ep 7777. Five Steps to Effective Communication That Will Transform Your Leadership with Josh Parnell
Poor communication isn't just annoying—it's expensive. It costs business owners 18% of total salaries paid out every year.If you're paying a million dollars in salaries, poor communication could be costing you $180,000 annually—7.47 hours of lost time each week per employee, all because messages aren't getting through.Today I'm talking with Josh Parnell, a leadership coach and host of the Limitless Leader podcast.Josh left a corporate job he loved when God kept tugging on his heart to start his own thing. He fought it for months until God finally said, "Josh, trust me and I'll show you."The greatest misconception about communication? That it's actually happening. That communication is actually happening. When you're talking with someone, there are often four conversations happening at once.Join us as Josh breaks down his five steps to effective communication that will transform how you lead.In This Episode:Five Steps to Effective CommunicationAssume positive intentSeek first to understand, then be understoodFall in love with asking questionsListen to understand, not to replyStay positiveOne challenge from today:Stop assuming all your thoughts are true. Humans have 60,000 thoughts per day—80% are negative and 90% are repetitive. When something seems off, assume positive intent and go directly to the source instead of creating a false narrative.Remember, meaningful growth often begins just outside your comfort zone.More About Josh ParnellWebsite: www.limitlessleadership.coYouTube: @thebeardedleaderLinkedIn: @thebeardedleaderMore About David SchmidtFree E-Book: What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for the Modern BusinessSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Book a call: Get Unstuck and Move ForwardWebsite: redeemingbusinesstoday.comLinkedInDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for Modern BusinessIf you want to go deeper in your walk with God and integrate your faith and business this is the tool to make it happen. Ep 7676: How to Turn Your Daily Work Into an Act of Worship | Christian Staller on Avodah
What if work isn't just something to escape from, but something you were created for?God created us to be zealous for good works—not for relaxation or pleasure, but for work itself. That's a different perspective.Today I'm talking with Christian Staller from Tennessee Business Coaching about an ancient Hebrew word that will transform how you see your daily work: Avodah.Twenty years ago at a faith and work conference, God told Christian: "This is what I want you to do—but not yet." Two decades passed as Christian became a CEO, started companies, failed, succeeded, and learned everything the hard way. When he finally moved to Tennessee, Christian discovered something stunning: Avodah doesn't just mean work. It means work, worship, and service—all wrapped into one.Your daily work isn't separate from your spiritual life. It IS your spiritual life.Redeem Your Business Today by the Following: How can we honor God in our business? Understand that work, worship, and service are inseparable. Recognize God as the true provider, not yourself. Don't fall into the Deuteronomy 8 trap of thinking your wealth and success where all your own doing. God gives you the power to create wealth. One challenge from today:Start every day with gratitude before checking your phone or diving into problems. Learn to truly listen—not just for information, but for what's being said and what's NOT being said. Let the Holy Spirit speak in your conversations.Process every business decision through work, worship, and service. How you fire, hire, and lead in difficult seasons will make you a light in dark places.More about Christian Staller Website: tnbusinesscoaching.comAvodah: Work, Worship and [email protected] About David SchmidtSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Website: redeemingbusinesstoday.comDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for Modern BusinessIf you want to go deeper in your walk with God and integrate your faith and business this is the tool to make it happen. Ep 7575: Seek First God's Kingdom: Building an Excellent Business That Honors God
What does it really mean to "seek first God's kingdom" when you're running a business? It's Matthew 6:33—a verse we've all heard. But what does it actually look like when you're building and scaling your company?David takes us back to Daniel 2 and that dream about a statue. A stone—carved without hands—smashes it and becomes a mountain filling the entire earth. That stone? It’s God's kingdom. Unlike Babylon, Persia, Greece, or Rome, this kingdom never ends because it's made up of people from every nation following King Jesus. When Jesus shows up, He says, "The kingdom of God is at hand."The Kingdom of God is individuals following Jesus—King Jesus. A multitude of people aligned with Jesus, seeking, loving, knowing, fearing, and obeying Him. From creation to Israel to the eternal state, God's plan has always been the same: a world of people who love, know, and fear God.So what does it mean to seek God's kingdom in your business? It means asking: Is this action or plan in alignment with God's way? Your product, marketing, sales, operations, customer service, treatment of clients, vendors, employees—all of it. And whenever there's a difference between your way and God's way? You choose God's way. Every time.David gives you five specific ways to seek God's kingdom while building your business. Lead by growing yourself. Advance in faith. Work with diligence. Work with humility. And work with excellence. You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world. Seek first God's kingdom by choosing His way—not the world's way, not your way. Pick God's way, every time.Remember: What's good for your faith is good for your business. Dig deeper into those five specific ways you can seek God’s kingdom while building your business by following this link.In This Episode, You'll Discover:What Daniel's dream reveals about God's kingdom todayWhy the kingdom of God is individuals following King JesusThe one question that transforms every business decisionFive specific ways to seek God's kingdom in your businessWhy your business reflects the God you serveRedeem your business today by the following:How can we honor God in our business?Stop treating business decisions like they're separate from spiritual ones. Every choice—how you price, who you hire, what you promise, how you deliver—is a chance to choose God's way over the world's way. Before your next big decision, ask yourself: "Is this aligned with God's kingdom, or am I defaulting to what's comfortable, what's conventional, what everyone else does?" God cares about your sales process, your team culture, and your marketing copy. Do it God’s way.One challenge from today:This week, pick one area of your business where you know there's a gap between how you're operating and how God would have you operate.Maybe it's how you talk about competitors, how you treat a difficult employee, or a shortcut you've been taking that doesn't reflect excellence. Name it. Then take one concrete step to close that gap—not because it's easy or profitable, but because you're seeking first God's kingdom.More About David SchmidtSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Website: redeemingbusinesstoday.comDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:Leadership GPS: Christian Business CoachingAre you looking to integrate your faith and business but don't know where to start, book a time to discover if Christian business coaching and training might be right for you. Ep 7474: Building a Leadership Legacy Your Employees' Families Will Remember | Jonathan Sheeley
Are the people who work for you glad they work for you? More importantly, would their families say the same thing?Leadership isn't just about hitting targets and growing revenue. It's about changing lives—not just at work, but at home too.Today I'm talking with Jonathan Sheeley, founder of Sheeley Executive Consulting, a business strategist and leadership coach who challenges the status quo. After leading marketing teams and traveling to hundreds of schools and churches across 35 states, Jonathan discovered his favorite part of the job: seeing the light bulb come on when someone finally gets it.Jonathan's wife shook him to the core with a simple observation: the best companies aren't just loved by employees—they're loved by employees' families too. That's the true measure of legacy.Join us for a candid conversation about leaving a legacy that impacts not just your direct reports, but their families, your community, and generations to come.Redeem Your Business Today by the Following: How can we honor God in our business?Check your daily purpose. Ask yourself each morning: Am I doing this to glorify God or to glorify myself? Stay grounded in love for Christ and benefit for others, not building your own fiefdom.Build wealth with kingdom values. Having money isn't the problem—loving money is. Create value, build resources, and use them to bless your employees, serve your community, and give generously. One challenge from today:Know your community calendar and honor it. Plan your work schedule around the events that matter to your employees' families. Give them autonomy, responsibility, and flexibility to handle both their work job and their home job. This flexibility and creative scheduling will build a legacy that will impact both your employees and their familiesMore About Jonathan SheeleyWebsite: sheeleyexecutiveconsulting.coLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathan-sheeley/More About David SchmidtSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Website: redeemingbusinesstoday.comDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for Modern BusinessIf you want to go deeper in your walk with God and integrate your faith and business this is the tool to make it happen. Ep 7373: Building Your Business on the Rock with Bethany Rees
Lighthouses. Solitary beacons guiding sailors through stormy seas to safe harbors. They stand as reminders that while we can't eliminate storms, we can prepare for them. The same is true in business. Chaos will come. You can't structure it all away. But you can build a foundation that stands firm when the winds hit.Today's guest, Bethany Rees, knows what it means to weather storms. She spent 18 years in education, rising from small-town classroom teacher to high school administrator overseeing 4,000 students—more than her entire college. She learned to serve every walk of life, navigate constant change, and lead through the unthinkable (hello, COVID).Now as author, coach, and host of Leadership on the Rocks podcast, Bethany helps leaders anchor themselves so they don't crumble when pressure hits.In this conversation, Bethany unpacks the wisdom from Matthew 7—the parable of the wise man who built his house on the rock. Storms came to both the wise builder and the foolish one.The difference wasn't whether they faced hardship. The difference was their foundation. In this episode, you'll learn:Why storms come to every leaderThe number one battle you face as a leaderHow to avoid building your business on the sandy foundation of chasing trends, fads, and approvalWhy memorizing Scripture is one of the most practical leadership tools you haveThe biggest misconception leaders have when navigating stormsHow starting your day anchored in Christ changes everything that followsWhy you should never trust a leader who doesn't walk with a limpRedeem Your Business Today How can we honor God in our business? We honor God by anchoring ourselves in Christ before we make a single decision. When a crisis hits, the worst parts of us will shine. If we're internally anxious, selfish, or short-tempered, that's what will come out under pressure. But when we're anchored in Christ, we don't have to know it all or have it all figured out. We can lead with humility and confidence, knowing we're not navigating the storm alone. One challenge from today:Anchor your day in Christ before the chaos hits. Don't wait until you're overwhelmed to pray.Start your morning with God's Word—even if it's just 10 minutes with your coffee. Ask Him: "Show me what I need today. Give me wisdom for the situations coming my way."This isn't a band-aid for a bullet hole. This is corrective surgery that changes how you lead all day long. Prayer before your opinion. Prayer before strategy. That's how you build on the Rock instead of sand.More About Bethany ReesWebsite: www.leadershipontherocks.comLinkedIn: Bethany ReesInstagram: @leadershipontherocksFacebook: Leadership on the RocksFree Resource: Download the Leadership Survival Essentials Checklist to help you lead with clarity and confidence: www.leadershipontherocks.com/checklistBook: Leadership on the Rocks is available at leadershipontherocks.com/book or on Amazon.More About David SchmidtSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Website: redeemingbusinesstoday.comDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:Leadership GPS: Christian Business CoachingAre you looking to integrate your faith and business but don't know where to start, book a time to discover if Christian business coaching and training might be right for you. Ep 7272: The Leader's Role in Building Great Company Culture with Dustin Rogers
When David started working on a radio frequency welder in 2009, he got so absorbed in the work that his supervisor had to remind him to take breaks. That's passion. But for many employees today, work feels transactional—they're just cogs in a machine with a care meter at zero. The difference? Leadership and culture. They always go hand in hand, either good or bad. Today's guest, Dustin Rogers, knows this firsthand. As owner of DB Rogers and host of Your Impact Story podcast, Dustin has spent his career studying what makes people passionate about their work versus what turns them into clock-watchers. Dustin has traveled the world in the equipment and auction space, witnessing companies decline when new leadership makes changes without honoring what came before. In this conversation, Dustin shares practical wisdom on building culture from the ground up. It applies whether you're launching a startup or revitalizing an established business. Dustin discusses the power of core values that guide decisions when you can't be everywhere. He highlights the importance of seeking feedback from the right people, and why working on yourself as a leader is the foundation of a healthy culture. In this episode, you'll learn: Why your identity as a leader should be in God's purpose, not your work performance How to honor the past while building for the future The critical role of core values in empowering your team to make aligned decisions How to discern helpful feedback from noise (and why "three times" matters) Simple questions that will help you find what your team really needs to succeed How showing your team you're working on yourself inspires them to bring their best Redeem Your Business Today How can we honor God in our business? We honor God by leading ourselves well before we lead others. Dustin reminds us that our identity isn't found in what we accomplish at work but in fulfilling God's purposes through the talents He's given us. One challenge from today: Ask yourself: Are you running a race God asked you to run, or one you decided to run on your own? Then ask your team this week: "What tools or resources do you need to do your job better?" That simple question, asked genuinely, might reveal something your team has needed for years but never felt they could ask for. Ep 7171: Your Secular Job IS Your Spiritual Work with Nate Belkstrom
Have you ever felt like a second-rate Christian because you work a secular job instead of serving as a pastor or missionary? Do you wish your life could count for God more than just the time you spend at church on Sundays and weekends? If so, today's episode is for you. This week we’re talking with Nate Belkstrom, who struggled with these same thoughts for years. After Bible college, Nate expected to enter full-time ministry but found himself back at his old job in food and beverage management. While his friend served as a missionary in Africa, Nate felt crushed. He wondered why he got stuck in a "secular, no-win spiritual job" while others got to serve God full-time. But God didn't change Nate's circumstances. He changed Nate. After crying out to God one day, Nate began studying every verse in the Bible about work. What he discovered was night and day different from what he'd been taught. Join us for an encouraging conversation about how your whole life is sacred and why Jesus wants to be your business partner, not just your boss. Redeem Your Business Today by the Following: How can we honor God in our business? Stop leaving Jesus at the door when you go to work. He doesn't need you to work for Him—He wants to work with you. We are laborers together with Him, and that applies to factory workers, mechanics, doctors, and engineers just as much as pastors and missionaries. Whatever you do, do it from your heart to honor God, and He will reward you for it. One challenge from today: Go the second mile. When your boss asks you to go one mile, volunteer to go two. It's actually easier to go two miles than one because you're in charge of the second mile—you've chosen it. Start with the small things: pick up that piece of paper, stay an extra five minutes, show up fully engaged. Ep 7070: Creating A Hope filled Company Culture with Brandi Kelly
What does your company culture say about you as a leader? Culture is defined as the shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterize your organization. But often, company culture is unintentionally shaped by what you do, not what you say. What you do says more about your culture than what you say. Today we're talking with Brandi Kelly, who has journeyed from social worker to superintendent to CEO of Spark HOPE EDU. After climbing the education ladder and reaching the top, Brandi discovered that success without fulfillment was taking a toll on her health and stealing her sense of purpose. The higher she climbed, the further she got from the people she wanted to serve. So, Brandi started Spark HOPE EDU and is passionate about bringing hope back to burnt-out leaders who feel lost and under pressure to perform. She helps them rediscover their purpose, lead themselves well, and create cultures where people feel valued as human beings—not just employees. Join us for an honest conversation about the cost of striving, the power of practicing the pause, and why HOPE is the leadership quality your team needs most right now. Redeem Your Business Today by the Following: How can we honor God in our business? Surrender your striving. God reminded Brandi to "be still and know that I am God." You can do all things through Christ who gives you strength, but you have to give it to Him first. Be a dealer in hope—your people want to know there's a brighter future ahead. When you lead with hope, you foster trust, compassion, and stability in your organization. One challenge from today: Practice the pause. When emotions run high and people push your buttons, take a step back and take a deep breath. A leader who brings calm brings stability to the organization. Start tomorrow by checking in with your people as human beings, not just employees. Ask "How are you?" and not just about their projects. People are craving connection because that's how God wired us.More About Brandi KellyWebsite: www.sparkhopeedu.com The HOPE-Fueled Leadership KickstartQuick Spark NewsletterFree download, first chapter of Lead with H.O.P.E.Book: Lead with H.O.P.E.: Building a System of Self-Efficacy More About David SchmidtFree E-Book: What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for the Modern BusinessSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God. Ep 6969: Building Faith-Driven Business Communities with Mina Carlson
Are you doing business alone, or are you part of a community of believers who support each other? In business, it's easy to feel isolated, making decisions on your own, wondering if other Christian business owners face the same challenges. But what if there was a place where believers could connect and support each other in both business and life? Today we are talking with Mina Carlson, President and CEO of the Arizona Christian Chamber of Commerce and head of the U.S. Christian Chamber of Commerce Coalition. The original Chamber of Commerce was founded over 400 years ago, built on faith in God and a commitment to strengthen business and serve the community. Over time, many chambers lost sight of that original purpose, becoming more focused on influence rather than service. Today, God is restoring that original vision through the U.S. Christian Chamber of Commerce. The U.S. Christian Chamber of Commerce started just two years ago and is about more than just networking. It’s about conscious capital, keeping your dollars in the Christian community, and supporting believers in everything from dentistry to car repairs. Join us as Mina shares stories of Chambers putting their faith into action in their communities. This is about relationships, not transactions. Redeem Your Business Today by the Following: How can we honor God in our business? Wear the Holy Spirit like a garment each day. Like David checked with God before every battle, seek God's direction daily in your business. Prayer is our most powerful tool. One challenge from today: Be intentional about supporting Christian businesses in your community. Who is your dentist, barber, or mechanic? These believers share the same goal of making an eternal impact. Connecting with the USCCC is a great way to find a chamber near you and find like-minded Christian business owners in your community. Ep 6565: How Leaders Can Break the Cycle of Toxic Culture with Jen Brooks

Ep 6161: How to See Your Business From God’s Perspective
When your business succeeds, who gets the credit—you or God? And when things go wrong, who gets the blame? In this episode, David Schmidt reminds us that correlation does not equal causation. Prosperity isn’t proof of our power—it’s evidence of God’s goodness. From Jeremiah’s warnings to Deuteronomy’s promises, David shares why remembering the Lord in every season is central to leading well in business and in life. How can we honor God in our business? By giving Him the credit for our success, humbling ourselves, and keeping His Word at the center of our work and decisions. One Challenge From Today: Read God’s Word daily. Let humility and the fear of the Lord guide how you lead your business and your life. Key Takeaways: Perspective matters—only God’s view is true. Prosperity can tempt us to forget God; Scripture warns us not to. By humility and the fear of the Lord come riches, honor, and life. Ep 5959: Christ Centered Leadership with Jordan Ames
How did Jesus lead? Is that something I can learn and apply today?Jordan Ames asked that same question and so began a journey through the Gospels to document and define the various leadership skills demonstrated by Jesus. In his new book Red Letter Leadership Jordan not only talks about how Jesus lead but also how we can apply those same principles in our life.Whether leadership in your home, business, or as a professional, we can learn and should learn how Jesus led.As a former Marine Jordan stayed connected with his family by being intentional to spend time with them and live out his faith in everyday life. Ep 5858: How to Hear God’s Voice in Business
Sometimes things go as planned, many times they do not. But God’s plans always work out according to God’s plan. What if you could hear from God so you knew the direction you should go with your business? That would be a game changer.Today we have on Steve Meisenheimer from The Effective Leader to talk about how God speaks to us.Steve speaks from his many years of experience in learning to hear from God and then acting upon it.It’s not a telephone call, letter, or email but God does still speak to His people if we seek His face. This is not a mystical seance where you empty your mind and have it filled with ideas, but a seeking of God’s direction and accepting of what is given you. It is also validating what God is saying through the Bible and other means.Steve has changed the phrase, “This idea might have been from God, but it was probably me” to “This idea might have been from me, but it was probably God.”God may be speaking to you more than you know. Jesus said, My sheep hear my voice, they know me, and they follow me (John 10:3-4).Steve hears from the Lord different from how I believe I hear from the Lord, but this is an interesting case study of seeking God’s face and being guided by Him.I believe that God speaks to us today through the Holy Spirit and uses the Bible, prayer, circumstances, and other believers. When these four are in alignment that is an indication that a purpose or action is from God. God works through unity, not majority rule.Listen in to Steve’s journey and how he has learned to hear God’s voice to lead in business and life.Redeem Your Business Today by the Following:How can we honor God in our business? Ep 5354: Hidden Dangers of Compromise in the Workplace with Rick Johnson
Growth is good. But at what cost are you willing to grow?Partnerships can be great, but not at the cost of compromising your values and culture.Listen in as we dialogue with Rick Johnson who pursued a lucrative growth option and how it cost him dearly. Having realized how compromise in his workplace was costing him his business, he sought the Lord, made changes, and stepped away from this growth opportunity.Operating a business that honors God doesn’t mean you get it right all the time, but when you are going the wrong way, do you listen, adjust, and start going in a way that honor’s God again.Compromising your values and joining together with unbelievers on a business level is not something we are to do according to 2 Corinthians 6:14. We cannot go out of this world, but at what level are we not to be joined together? It’s a line you need to ask God about and follow His lead.Key Take Aways:Don’t put God on a timeline to answer your prayersDon’t go into partnership with an unbelieverListen to warning signs and friends that are alerting you when things are going wrongTake action to make things right. Ep 4646: A Practical Guide to Using AI in Digital Marketing with Jennifer Elia
AI is like a hammer. In the hands of a craftsman, you can build great works of art and construction. However, in the hands of the careless it can do much damage.AI is a tool that if used as such will save you lots of time. However, to get the most out of AI you must train and lead it. Don’t expect it to do all your work for you. You have to tell it what to do or you will only get average mechanical results.Training AI to your way of thinking and writing style greatly enhances its value.Today we have brought on Jennifer Elia, a digital marketer who has effectively learned how to train the AI model to get great results and save tons of time.Like everything else, you get out of it what you invest into it. That said, it is fairly simple to train your AI model once you know what information to give it. Today Jennifer is going to open the doors to her wisdom to share what she has learned about AI and how it can be utilized effectively today. In This Episode:Three great uses of AI for businessMarketing researchSynthesizing information from searches onlineCreating systems for repetitive tasksOpen AI models will take your information to teach and train the entire system so other people can use your data.Closed AI models will take your information to teach the model for you but will not share your ideas with other users. This is how you can build highly trained AI models to suit your business needs without sounding generic and mechanical. There are two levels of training the AI model:The internal training that comes with the model that enables it to read, understand, and synthesize dataThe personal training you give it to tell it who you are, how you write, who your ideal customer is and what they wantMisconceptions around AI. Just because AI can help you shar a lot of content doesn’t mean you should. It’s always better to share less but better content. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.Redeem Your Business Today by the Following:How can we honor God in our business? We have a special mission to help others fulfill their mission. It’s not all about us, life is about serving others. One challenge from today. Have an open mind about AI but be cautious. AI is a tool to use to communicate better to our customers and take some repetitive tasks off our hands. But it is a tool, not the replacement of humans.Today we are joined with AI expert Mat Koenig as he explains a few ways AI can be used responsibly in your business. AI can be used as a customized chat bot on your website to answer questions and book calls all the way to answering your phone calls and responding to texts and emails. However, like all good things, it takes effort, intentionality, and diligence to make it work effectively.Whether you are new to the AI discussion or are a current user, this conversation is filled with useful information for you to weigh out to see if using AI is the right fit for you. And if it is, how you will use it.In This Episode:Learn the three basic guidelines necessary for training your business AI model. Role – What role will your AI play?Goal – What is the goal you want your AI to accomplish?Context – What are the boundaries your AI needs to remain in?And don’t forget to tell your AI not to make up information.
