Ever wonder what a business would look like if Jesus were the owner? What would they focus on? Would the employees grumble about working conditions or pay? What would the culture be like? Well, at Redeeming Business Today we are demystifying that question as we collaborate with likeminded business leaders who view life from a Christian worldview. We delve into how God would do business, which translates into how we should be running our business. As a former pastor, engineer, business coach, and father of nine children David Schmidt analyzes business to find the root causes of success and simplifies it so anyone can understand and apply those principles. The Redeeming Business Today is designed to inspire, equip, and motivate business professionals to take God at his word and to trust him, commit their plans to him, and to delight in his ways. Business success is a combination of hard work and the blessing of God. It is not one or the other, it's both.

Ep 8787. Warning Signs of Spiritual Manipulation: How I Escaped a Cult with Peter Young

Can you recognize the warning signs when someone you love is being spiritually manipulated?Today's conversation with Peter Young, real estate professional and author, is a sobering reminder that spiritual deception can happen to anyone—even lifelong Christians.Peter grew up in a strong Christian home, accepted Christ, was baptized, and read his Bible cover to cover multiple times. Then he married a woman who brought a "family guru" named Uncle Robert into their marriage—a man who would control their lives for the next 20 years.Uncle Robert taught that casinos were the true churches. He convinced Peter's wife she wasn't saved until he pointed it out. He told Peter's father-in-law he was on par with a cockroach. Slowly, like a frog in boiling water, Peter found himself brainwashed for two years. The turning point came when his wife left and Uncle Robert told their five children that Peter was just a "sperm donor and bloodline"—not a real father. That's when the lies started to crack. It took a full year for Peter to realize it wasn't his fault and he wasn't crazy.Peter learned three critical lessons: First, a strong Christian marriage needs Christ at the center—not a parent, priest, or guru. Second, isolation from the body of Christ makes you vulnerable to false teachers. Third, salvation comes before sanctification—anyone switching that order is acting as a gatekeeper to God.Redeem Your Business Today by the Following:How can we honor God in our business?Be honest—period. You're either honest or you're not. Truth doesn't mind being questioned.Stay connected to the body of Christ. Isolation makes you vulnerable. Fellowship and accountability protect you from deception. One challenge from today:If someone you love is headed down a dangerous road—whether a cult or spiritual deception—don't shy away from the hard conversation. Be loving, be kind, but be bold. They don't know they're in trouble. You see it, but they don't.More About Peter YoungWebsite: https://www.authorpeteryoung.com/Book: Stop the Tall Man, Save the LionMore About David SchmidtFree Resource: What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for the Modern BusinessSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Book a call: Get Unstuck and Move ForwardWebsite: redeemingbusinesstoday.comLinkedInDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:Leadership GPS: Christian Business CoachingAre you looking to integrate your faith and business but don't know where to start, book a time to discover if Christian business coaching and training might be right for you. Ep 8686. Biblical Business Principles: Stewardship, Surrender, and Success with Karl Diffenderfer

Is Jesus really the CEO of your business—or just in name only?Today's conversation with Karl Diffenderfer, coach for coaches and author, challenges us to move beyond the label and into the reality of surrendering our business to God.Karl started a marketing company at 24 and sold it at 32. During those years, clients came in to talk about logos but ended up sharing the deepest parts of their hearts. He realized God had given him a gift for discernment, so he became a coach. He's now done over 10,000 coaching sessions. His biggest lesson? He was burning out doing everything God told him to do—until God showed him a picture. Karl was pushing ahead, trying to drag God along in the yoke instead of going at God's pace. God gave him four statements that changed everything: Slow down. Go at my pace. Do what I say. Trust me.Karl learned that success isn't about revenue or impact—it starts in his relationship with the Lord. Spending time in God's Word each day became his true success criteria. Everything else flows from that. The challenge: We can't educate people beyond their level of obedience. If you're not sowing time into client acquisition, you won't reap clients. God's principles apply to everything.Redeem Your Business Today by the Following:How can we honor God in our business?Slow down enough to hear God's voice. Five practices create space: time in the Word, worship, prayer, journaling, and the body of believers. Your job isn't productivity—it's diligence. Results belong to God.Walk in humility, not pride. Surrender isn't something you can work on—you have to lay it at His feet and let Him be in charge. One challenge from today:Are you spending time in God's Word every day? Don't read it to become a better Christian—read it to know Him better. The Word is the only book where the Author shows up and changes you just by being there.More About Karl DiffenderferWebsite: www.HigherImpact.meTurnkeycoachingsystem.comMore About David SchmidtFree Resource: What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for the Modern BusinessSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Book a call: Get Unstuck and Move ForwardWebsite: redeemingbusinesstoday.comLinkedInDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:Leadership GPS: Christian Business CoachingAre you looking to integrate your faith and business but don't know where to start, book a time to discover if Christian business coaching and training might be right for you. Ep 8585. Building a Leadership Pipeline: Biblical Principles for Christian Entrepreneurs with Josh Williams

Are you overlooking the leader right in front of you?Joshua Williams has spent 16 years in youth ministry watching problematic teenagers become faithful leaders a decade later. His approach? Don't look for the most talented—look for availability and willingness. One student crossed so many lines that Joshua had to pull him from youth group for three months. But he didn't stop investing. He kept meeting with him, kept pouring into him. Today, that "problematic" student is thriving in his walk with God and raising up leaders himself. The lesson applies to your business: Sometimes the person who annoys you most is exactly opposite your personality—which means they bring something valuable you're missing. Don't surround yourself with carbon copies. Look for puzzle pieces with different strengths.Joshua learned the hard way that you can't carry weight God didn't give you. Do what God called you to do, then trust Him with the rest. If you've been faithful and it doesn't succeed by the world's standards, you've still succeeded in God's eyes.Redeem Your Business Today by the Following:How can we honor God in our business?God has entrusted people to you. Your job isn't to dominate but to love them first and raise them up as an example of Christ.Don't expect perfection before investing. Coach emerging leaders through their struggles rather than only promoting the "safe" choices. One challenge from today:Is there someone you've written off because they're difficult? Maybe God put them there for you to pour into. Plant that seed. You might be surprised what grows.More about Josh Williams https://www.youtube.com/@BeyondTheNumbersPodcastMore About David SchmidtFree Resource: What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for the Modern BusinessSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Book a call: Get Unstuck and Move ForwardWebsite: redeemingbusinesstoday.comLinkedInDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for Modern BusinessIf you want to go deeper in your walk with God and integrate your faith and business this is the tool to make it happen. Ep 8484. How to Develop a Biblical Mindset in Business | Neuroplasticity and Faith with Deanna Becket

Can your brain actually be rewired from negative to positive?Today's conversation with Deanna Beckett, author and speaker, tackles the stories we tell ourselves and how they shape everything we do in business.Deanna spent years dragging bitterness and guilt into her work and relationships. Through Bible study and daily thought-resetting, she learned something critical: What goes in comes out. Garbage in, garbage out.She talks about neuroplasticity: How our brains can be rewired from dead, gnarly branches into something healthy and growing. But you can't just remove a bad habit and leave a hole. You have to replace it with something good. The workplace reality? More than half of conversations at work are probably negative. That doesn't just waste time—it attracts more negativity and keeps you stuck.Deanna's daily practice: She rewrites Bible verses in first person and speaks them out loud. "He gives me the ability to produce wealth." Instead of scrolling social media and feeling anxiety creep up, she shuts it off and tackles what she's been avoiding. One shift that changes everything: Replace "I have to" with "I get to." Add "yet" to complaints. "I'm not where I want to be... yet."Redeem Your Business Today by the Following:How can we honor God in our business?Control what you can control—your attitude and your response. You can't control other people's reactions or circumstances, but you can choose grace when someone's having a rough day.Chase peace intentionally. Redirect negative conversations at work or remove yourself from them entirely. One challenge from today:Shift two words tomorrow morning. Instead of "I have to go to work," say "I get to go to work." Pay attention to how that small change affects your whole day. Everybody's fighting a battle you know nothing about—be gracious.More About Deanna Becketwww.deannabecket.comwww.shockingyourshtick.comMore About David SchmidtFree Resource: What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for the Modern BusinessSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Book a call: Get Unstuck and Move ForwardWebsite: redeemingbusinesstoday.comLinkedInDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for Modern BusinessIf you want to go deeper in your walk with God and integrate your faith and business this is the tool to make it happen. Ep 8383. How I Crashed My Business and Found God's Purpose | Entrepreneurial Story with David Schmidt

Have you ever felt like an imposter in your own business?I refinanced my house and bought into a coaching franchise in 2021, convinced the systems would carry me to success. Within a month, I knew I'd made a mistake.I wasn't the expert in business they thought I was. I had an inferiority mindset. And I was trying to operate the franchise's version of who I was supposed to be instead of being authentic to how God made me.For six months, I watched myself crash. As an analytical engineer, I knew I was failing but didn't know how to stop it. The depression was crushing—until June 30th, 2022. That's the day I quit, and it became the best day of my life.God's grace kept me going with clients I didn't deserve while I worked a W-2 job. He gave me a coach whose personality actually complemented mine. And He convicted me with a question I'd been asking my own kids: Your success is directly correlated with your relationship with God—so why doesn't your coaching content reflect that? That question changed everything. I stopped trying to help businesses chase bigger profits and started focusing on what I'm passionate about—helping Christian business owners operate God's way through Leadership GPS: God first, Purpose, then Service.Redeem Your Business Today by the Following:How can we honor God in our business?Be authentic to who God created you to be. When you try to operate someone else's version of your business, you'll crash. There's room for you exactly as you are.Get the right coach—one who aligns with your beliefs and complements your personality. In coaching, personality matters. One challenge from today:Ask yourself: Am I doing business God's way, or am I conforming to the world's philosophy? We've been stained by the world's patterns for so long we think they're normal. Not money, houses, or business success.Redeem Your Business Today by the Following:How can we honor God in our business?Value relationships over revenue. Practice active listening—listen to learn, not to judge. Ask your kids: "How can I be a better dad? What makes my questions feel like interrogation?"One Challenge from Today:It's never too late for humility. Own up to your mistakes with your children and tell them, "I'm sorry I did this." Ep 8181. How to Build Trust in Business: The 4 Habits of Referability with James MacNeil

The Four Referability Habits: Build Trust That Grows Your BusinessSadly, Christians aren't always known as the best employees or business partners. If we're followers of Jesus, we're called to show our light through good work—and it's simpler than you think.James MacNeil has built three seven-figure businesses on one principle: "no surprise, but good surprise"—always delivering more than promised. He shares four referability habits from Dan Sullivan that transform how people perceive your business. The tragic truth? James says he'd be $10 million ahead if he hadn't done business with Christians who failed to keep their word. The Four Habits: Show up on timeDo what you say you're going to doFinish what you startSay please and thank you. Redeem Your Business Today by the Following:How can we honor God in our business? The first promise you make is 100% evidence that you're either completely trustworthy or completely untrustworthy. Make and keep commitments—it's the fastest path to building trust and flourishing relationships.Remember: the business of business is to profitably solve problems. We profit when we deserve it, and deserve means "from service." If you're not earning enough, you're likely not serving enough. One Challenge from Today:Make as few promises as possible and keep them all. Before you say yes, count the cost. Ep 8080. The Christian Mindset About Money: Should Believers Pursue Wealth? With Gino Barbaro

Should Christians pursue wealth? The Bible seems to send mixed messages about money. It says, "Better is little with the fear of the Lord" but also "By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honor, and life." So what should our mindset be as Christian business owners?Today I'm talking with Gino Barbaro, a certified money coach and real estate investor who homeschools his six kids. He's learned hard lessons about money, scarcity, and what God wants for us.Gino shared a powerful quote: "Money does not corrupt an individual—it reveals the individual." If you want to create impact and serve families, you'll need to make money. Money is just a tool.Legacy isn't just financial—it's three things: human capital (faith), intellectual capital (wisdom), and financial capital (resources). Without the first two, wealth disappears.Gino was paralyzed by fear during the 2008 recession, stuck in victim mentality. His turning point came when he stopped being a victim and got clarity on where he wanted to go.Four Steps to Change Your Money Mindset:Stop being a victimGet clarity on what you wantGo easy on yourselfExamine your money biography—what you heard about money as a kid is still playing on repeatWe don't own anything. God owns everything. We're stewards. Profit is the fuel, not the destination. How can we honor God in our business?By keeping Jesus at the center. By being stewards, not owners. By using money as fuel for legacy—not the destination. One challenge from today:Examine your money mindset. Ep 7979. How to Choose a Business Coach: 3 Things to Check First with Kevin Weis

How do you know if a coach is right for you?Not every coach will be a good fit—even if they're getting great results for other people. Today's guest, Kevin Weiss from The Contrarian Way, learned this the hard way when he hired a coach with a five-figure price tag, made all his money back in the first month, and then fired him anyway.Kevin is a coach for Christian coaches who built his business on one simple rule from Matthew 7:12 "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." When you apply this to business—how you market, sell, and serve—it changes everything.Kevin shared his story of running a kettlebell studio with his wife. They hired a coach who got them results immediately, but the tactics felt manipulative and they got delegated to someone else. Three things were misaligned: the person, the process, and the product. The Three AlignmentsPerson: Do your values align? Look at their content—are they real people or just a polished highlight reel?Process: Does the way they coach feel right? When misaligned, your values start changing, you burn out, or you walk away.Product: Will you work with the coach you're hiring or get delegated to a different coach? Is the meeting structure sustainable? You can survive one misalignment. But when all three are off, someone's going to hate showing up to the coaching sessions.Watch for high-pressure sales tactics demanding immediate decisions. A great coach gives you space to pray and discern fit. Tunnel vision for results makes you ignore warning signs. The end does not justify the means—getting results while compromising your values isn't worth it.How can we honor God in our business?By aligning ourselves with God first. Seek first His kingdom. When you align with what matters most, everything else—including how you choose a coach—falls into place. One challenge from today:Do a self-check on the person, process, and product before hiring a coach. Are they aligned with who you are and who you want to be?More About Kevin WeisWebsite: The Contrarian WayFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/thekevinweisYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thekevinweisMore About David SchmidtFree Resource: What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for the Modern BusinessSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Book a call: Get Unstuck and Move ForwardWebsite: redeemingbusinesstoday.comLinkedInDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:Leadership GPS: Christian Business CoachingAre you looking to integrate your faith and business but don't know where to start, book a time to discover if Christian business coaching and training might be right for you. Ep 7878. Character-Driven Leadership: Why Character is Your Competitive Advantage with VIP Leadership Group

What makes a leader worth following?Today I'm talking with three leaders from three different cultures, united by one mission—to help leaders rise with values, integrity, and principles. Dr. Makki, Coach Attala, and Dr. Leroy McKenzie Jr. are the co-founders of the Character Driven Leadership Cafe, a movement confronting the real cracks in modern leadership.Leadership is lacking in today's world. We see it everywhereLeaders who talk about values but don't live themOrganizations that prioritize performance while burning out their peopleCultures built on control instead of connection. The CDL Cafe was born from Dr. Makki's observation sitting with his morning coffee: leadership failures aren't just about strategy or skill—they're about character. The cafe offers Table Talk Wednesdays, resources, and a community where leaders learn to lead from the inside out.VIP Leadership stands for Values, Integrity, and Principles—the three pillars of character-driven leadership. This isn't about adding skills on top of a hollow foundation. It's about becoming the kind of person others want to follow because you genuinely serve them. The business case for character is clear: connected employees perform better. People who feel seen and valued share their best ideas. Stressed, burned-out employees don't. And that energy transfers to your clients and customers. How can we honor God in our business?By leading with character—privately and publicly. By choosing discipline over convenience. By loving the people we lead, not just using them for productivity. God cares about who we're becoming, not just what we're accomplishing. One challenge from today:Write down your Personal Value System—the 3-5 principles that define who you want to be as a leader. He fought it for months until God finally said, "Josh, trust me and I'll show you."The greatest misconception about communication? That it's actually happening. That communication is actually happening. When you're talking with someone, there are often four conversations happening at once.Join us as Josh breaks down his five steps to effective communication that will transform how you lead.In This Episode:Five Steps to Effective CommunicationAssume positive intentSeek first to understand, then be understoodFall in love with asking questionsListen to understand, not to replyStay positiveOne challenge from today:Stop assuming all your thoughts are true. Ep 7676: How to Turn Your Daily Work Into an Act of Worship | Christian Staller on Avodah

What if work isn't just something to escape from, but something you were created for?God created us to be zealous for good works—not for relaxation or pleasure, but for work itself. That's a different perspective.Today I'm talking with Christian Staller from Tennessee Business Coaching about an ancient Hebrew word that will transform how you see your daily work: Avodah.Twenty years ago at a faith and work conference, God told Christian: "This is what I want you to do—but not yet." Two decades passed as Christian became a CEO, started companies, failed, succeeded, and learned everything the hard way. When he finally moved to Tennessee, Christian discovered something stunning: Avodah doesn't just mean work. It means work, worship, and service—all wrapped into one.Your daily work isn't separate from your spiritual life. It IS your spiritual life.Redeem Your Business Today by the Following: How can we honor God in our business? Understand that work, worship, and service are inseparable. Recognize God as the true provider, not yourself. Don't fall into the Deuteronomy 8 trap of thinking your wealth and success where all your own doing. God gives you the power to create wealth. One challenge from today:Start every day with gratitude before checking your phone or diving into problems. Learn to truly listen—not just for information, but for what's being said and what's NOT being said. Let the Holy Spirit speak in your conversations.Process every business decision through work, worship, and service. How you fire, hire, and lead in difficult seasons will make you a light in dark places.More about Christian Staller Website: tnbusinesscoaching.comAvodah: Work, Worship and [email protected] About David SchmidtSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Website: redeemingbusinesstoday.comDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:What God Says About Business: 5 Uncommon Truths for Modern BusinessIf you want to go deeper in your walk with God and integrate your faith and business this is the tool to make it happen. Ep 7575: Seek First God's Kingdom: Building an Excellent Business That Honors God

What does it really mean to "seek first God's kingdom" when you're running a business? It's Matthew 6:33—a verse we've all heard. But what does it actually look like when you're building and scaling your company?David takes us back to Daniel 2 and that dream about a statue. A stone—carved without hands—smashes it and becomes a mountain filling the entire earth. That stone? It’s God's kingdom. Unlike Babylon, Persia, Greece, or Rome, this kingdom never ends because it's made up of people from every nation following King Jesus. When Jesus shows up, He says, "The kingdom of God is at hand."The Kingdom of God is individuals following Jesus—King Jesus. A multitude of people aligned with Jesus, seeking, loving, knowing, fearing, and obeying Him. From creation to Israel to the eternal state, God's plan has always been the same: a world of people who love, know, and fear God.So what does it mean to seek God's kingdom in your business? It means asking: Is this action or plan in alignment with God's way? Your product, marketing, sales, operations, customer service, treatment of clients, vendors, employees—all of it. And whenever there's a difference between your way and God's way? You choose God's way. Every time.David gives you five specific ways to seek God's kingdom while building your business. Lead by growing yourself. Advance in faith. Work with diligence. Work with humility. And work with excellence. You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world. Seek first God's kingdom by choosing His way—not the world's way, not your way. Pick God's way, every time.Remember: What's good for your faith is good for your business. Dig deeper into those five specific ways you can seek God’s kingdom while building your business by following this link.In This Episode, You'll Discover:What Daniel's dream reveals about God's kingdom todayWhy the kingdom of God is individuals following King JesusThe one question that transforms every business decisionFive specific ways to seek God's kingdom in your businessWhy your business reflects the God you serveRedeem your business today by the following:How can we honor God in our business?Stop treating business decisions like they're separate from spiritual ones. Every choice—how you price, who you hire, what you promise, how you deliver—is a chance to choose God's way over the world's way. Before your next big decision, ask yourself: "Is this aligned with God's kingdom, or am I defaulting to what's comfortable, what's conventional, what everyone else does?" God cares about your sales process, your team culture, and your marketing copy. Do it God’s way.One challenge from today:This week, pick one area of your business where you know there's a gap between how you're operating and how God would have you operate.Maybe it's how you talk about competitors, how you treat a difficult employee, or a shortcut you've been taking that doesn't reflect excellence. Name it. Then take one concrete step to close that gap—not because it's easy or profitable, but because you're seeking first God's kingdom.More About David SchmidtSubscribe to the RBT Weekly Newsletter for weekly simple, practical, and Biblical steps to help you build a thriving business in a way that honors God.Newsletter also comes with Bible verses for business success for you to read, apply, and be inspired by.Website: redeemingbusinesstoday.comDonate to the ShowMentioned in this episode:Leadership GPS: Christian Business CoachingAre you looking to integrate your faith and business but don't know where to start, book a time to discover if Christian business coaching and training might be right for you. Are the people who work for you glad they work for you? More importantly, would their families say the same thing?Leadership isn't just about hitting targets and growing revenue. It's about changing lives—not just at work, but at home too.Today I'm talking with Jonathan Sheeley, founder of Sheeley Executive Consulting, a business strategist and leadership coach who challenges the status quo. After leading marketing teams and traveling to hundreds of schools and churches across 35 states, Jonathan discovered his favorite part of the job: seeing the light bulb come on when someone finally gets it.Jonathan's wife shook him to the core with a simple observation: the best companies aren't just loved by employees—they're loved by employees' families too. That's the true measure of legacy.Join us for a candid conversation about leaving a legacy that impacts not just your direct reports, but their families, your community, and generations to come.Redeem Your Business Today by the Following: How can we honor God in our business?Check your daily purpose.
