Michael Tullberg: How to capture the moment
EPhotographer Michael Tullberg has witnessed the growth of dance music through the lens of his camera for over two decades. He came by the studio to tell us about his new book, the Raver Stories Project, featuring stories from fans and creators of the rave scene. He tells us some of his own rave stories and how he went from being a photographer on the front lines of dance music to creating his own publishing company. Thes One: How to do it (all) yourself
EThes One — one half of People Under the Stairs — is not going to teach us how to become an underground hip hop legend. But he will teach us how to manage every aspect of our business, how to look beyond genres and conventional thinking, and how to find creativity in boredom. Amazing lessons from a true original in this episode. Brent Bushnell: Take your kids to business meetings
EBrent Bushnell is taking on big challenges. Bringing VR to the masses. Teaching STEAM to kids (and maybe adults) through entertainment. Now he’s reinventing the theme park for modern times. You might think it’s in his blood, as the son of the founder of BOTH Atari and Chuck E. Cheese. But he’ll tell you what he learned from his dad is to work hard, to make stuff, and to sell stuff. We went to interview him on-site at his DTLA factory where he’s creating the future. He gives us some amazing lessons about company culture, parenting, and finding people’s passion. Dave Anthony LIVE at LA Podcast Festival: Don’t let the bass player sing
EThis year Rebel Radio was invited to participate in the LA Podcast Festival. We chose as our guest the founder of the festival, Dave Anthony, who is also a really funny comedian and the host of The Dollop podcast which takes boring facts from American History and turns them into funny stories. In front of a live audience, Dave takes us through the twists and turns of his career and drops some amazing lessons on us, like these: On the key to success: Don’t be an asshole On launching a festival: the amount of work that goes into it is far beyond anything you can imagine. On Donald Trump: He won, by the way. On partnerships: I don't work great with other people On making famous friends: Go make famous friends. That's your assignment. On education: Fuck the people that need an education. ---- If you liked this episode, check out our interview with Brandon Wardell: https://soundcloud.com/rebel_radio/brandon-wardell EDM.com Track of the Week: https://soundcloud.com/ramajeroc/lord-help-me Learn more about your ad choices. Patrick Hoelck: How to tell your story
EPatrick Hoelck is a photographer, filmmaker, music video director, interviewer, podcaster. He combines an eye for beauty with a first-hand experience of street culture, allowing him to tell visual stories that are at the same time raw and romantic. In addition to directing a feature film, Mercy, he has shot dozens of brand campaigns, celebrity portraits, and music videos for DJ Quik, Missy Elliott, Alicia Keys, Beenie Man, and Josh’s former client, WC, among others. He came by our studio to give us a history lesson in hip hop music videos, and tell us how he’s been able to build an enduring career spanning across multiple media. He also tells us how he’s been able to overcome fear and get back to making stuff. Corey McGuire of Winston House: How to go big without getting too big
EAround LA, Winston House has become something of an open secret. Even knowing about it, or better yet, having been, instantly makes you look a whole lot more plugged in. If you do spend an evening inside, you come to understand that being there, being part of the community, sharing the experience, is so much more than clicking Like on the photo. Reminds us of the old days before everyone was hip to everything and every moment was gone as soon as it happened. For those who aren’t plugged in, Winston House is actually some dude’s townhouse in Venice where he hosts private concerts from up-and-comers as well as some of the most famous artists in the world. Corey McGuire is that dude. Instead having him to our studio, we went to his house to hear about the vision that is so much bigger than Venice, and yet so much smaller and more intimate than the intended massive media platform would suggest. He also shares some intimate details about the anxiety that comes with being a founder, with trying to do something good, and with having to be the one to tell people they aren’t invited. Adam 12 and Brian Tarney: How to trust your instincts
EWe had Adam 12 on the show a couple years because he’s a great DJ. If you don’t know, he used to DJ for Obama, Prince, and lots of other important people, and also holds down some of our favorite nights out. He shared some insights in exploring creativity and blazing your own path. Adam’s back with his co-founder Brian Tarney to tell us about their new music festival: Cloak and Dagger. It’s this weekend in Los Angeles and you should go. We also got some great lessons in creating an experience for people — making them feel safe and also challenging them at the same time. Josh Glazer: How to ask for what you want
EJosh Glazer is the host of the Rave Curious podcast, where he’s becoming the Mark Maron of techno. He came by the Rebel Radio studios to reminisce with Josh about the old days when they worked together at URB Magazine and co-hosted the Loose Tooth parties with Steve Aoki and Franki Chan. He also schools us on how brands should be thinking about their content and how we all need to get out of our comfort zones every once in a while and ask for something really important. ANML: How to find happiness in the struggle
EANML has a great story to tell. On the cusp of releasing her new EP, Release!, she shares some lessons she’s learned getting to this point. Although it’s still pretty early in her career, she’s already gone through a major pivot, changing both her stage name and her musical style. Pretty major lesson for us all that when plan A isn’t working as well as it could, switch quickly to plan B. That, and learn when to be patient and when to be, well, not patient. DJ Spider: How to win friends like Bill Murray, Ray Liotta, and Mariah Carey
EDJ Spider was on our show last year, telling great stories about the "Whole Foods Parking Lot" video and the Donald Trump pisstake he made into a hat. Spider came back ‘round to tell us what it was like on tour with Blink 182, as well as his run-ins with Bill Murray (awesome), Ray Liotta (scary), and Mariah Carey (weird). He gives us some insights into how he tailors his approach for different crowds, and how he discovered the perfect promo item to throw out into the crowd. Richard Greene: Part 2 - How to focus on what matters most
EIn part one of our interview, Richard shared some insights he picked up as Tony Robbins’s lawyer, and told us about the work he’s doing to improve our political process with 279forchange.us. If you missed it, check that out here: https://soundcloud.com/rebel_radio/richard-greene-how-to-do-what-you-love-part-1 In the second half, he breaks down his secrets for being an effective public speaker. Richard Greene: Part 1 - How to do what you love
ERichard Greene is one of the smartest people you’re likely to come across. A few decades back, as a young lawyer, he attended Tony Robbins’s very first seminar. Moved by what he heard, he approached Tony to thank him and offer his assistance. Tony hired him on the spot as his lawyer, and later his business manager. Since then, Richard has been tapped by business leaders, politicians, and celebrities to help them become better communicators. He’s written books and delivered a popular TED talk about public speaking, and is now seeking to change the way we choose our elected officials. Richard came through the studio to offer his tips for giving speeches that move people, but more importantly for discovering what we’re really here to do. His secret: "I just wake up every day saying 'What do I want to do when I grow up?’" This one has so much good stuff that we split it into two. Steve Hofstetter: How to focus on the audience
EJosh’s guest Steve Hofstetter knows that when he goes up on stage, his job is to make sure the crowd has a good time. It’s not about getting through his set, telling the jokes he’s worked hard at writing, or destroying the heckler who’s trying to mess things up for him. It’s only about the crowd. To many of us forget that in life. We focus on the obstacles, the haters, the conditions that stand in the way of our success. Steve is here to teach us how to focus on the outcome. He’s built a great following online and at his shows by doing just this. When he gets heckled, as all comics do, he handles it in a way that’s fun for the audience, and then he posts it to his YouTube and gets millions of views. Everyone wins. Check out today’s episode, then check out Steve online and go to one of his shows. Special edition: The reverse interview with Dennis White
EDennis White was my first guest on Rebel Radio when we launched two years ago. He shared some great stories about how he’s built a career making music in various forms, various genres, under various names. It was a great way to kickoff the show. So on the occasion of our two-year anniversary, I figured I’d check back in with him to see what new lessons he might have for us. I figured wrong. Instead of obliging my questions, Dennis took grabbed the mic and proceeded to interview me. We dug into my long and sometimes ridiculous career path and managed to uncover a lot of “what not to do.” Turns out I also learned a couple valuable things along the way, namely… * Get to know yourself really well and make decisions that work for you, which may not be the right answers for anyone else. * Just do stuff. Don’t dwell on how hard it’s going to be. Be in it for the experience and the journey. * Pay attention to your influences. Just because you see something in a movie, that doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. We also talk about the work I’ve been doing lately with Linkin Park. We recorded the interview just days before the tragic death of their lead singer, Chester Bennington. It’s a terrible loss for fans around the world, and a massive reminder that we only have each other in this world. Mark Jones: Be who you are. Don't be somebody else.
EI caught up with Mark in London at the legendary Dean St. Studios. They were kind enough to let us use a room for our interview. Mark is the founder of Wall of Sound records, which has been an influential dance music label for almost 25 years, bringing us music from Basement Jaxx, Propellerheads, Royksopp, among many others. Mark also hosts the Back to the Phuture radio show on Soho Radio and the Question Mark live interview series. I lost control of the interview almost instantly, and Mark took us down a number of rabbit holes — SGI Buddhism (he even does some chanting for us) to his beef with Simon Cowell. At the end of the show, he puts on a clown mask and shows me a card trick he uses at parties. We also get some amazing lessons about creativity and how always to be yourself. It’s nuts. Aisha Jade: How to be a private person in the public eye
EI love how Aisha describes “doing social media” as her job. It’s accurate, but I’ve never heard anyone express it that way. The former Big Brother Sydney contestant — now a full-time social influencer and owner / design of the new clothing line Boy By Her — came by Rebel Radio to tell us what it’s like living in the public eye and how she found both the confidence and discipline to launch her own brand. The first lesson you can learn from her is to be young and beautiful. But after that, it’s about knowing who you are and what you stand for, being willing to say no to opportunities that aren’t authentic, and protect yourself from the wrong influences. Zen Freeman: How to give people what they actually want
EYou might say Zen Freeman leads a charmed life. He DJs for the sexiest brands in the sexiest places around the world. He also does festivals and clubs, and makes his own music. In today’s episode, he gives us a glimpse into the work it takes to make all of that happen, and how he’s taking things to the next level by launching his own festival: RHA Fest, debuting at the end of July in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Roman Tsunder: How to put a dent in the universe
ERoman is one of those dudes who thinks he can take over the world. Spend enough time with him and you’ll believe it too — maybe about him, and more likely about yourself. He’s the founder of the 10-year old PTTOW!, a gathering of the world’s most influential business and cultural leaders, and of Worldz — now in its second year — which seeks to inspire the next generation of leaders. I’ll be at Worldz on July 31st in Los Angeles and would love to see all of my listeners there. You can register and find more information at www.worldz.us Meanwhile, in today’s interview you’ll learn how Roman has built such an amazing career for himself, how he consistently challenges himself to get out of his comfort zone, and how he surrounds himself with such dynamic people. Ian Karmel: How to find your tribe
EIan takes being funny very seriously. He’s down to outwork folks around him, and isn’t afraid of a little luck when it comes his way. In our interview, he gives us some insights from his journey from Portland local hero to TV writer and national touring. We learn how he builds trust with an audience, and how he decides when to show them one part of his persona vs. another. Warning: You’ll probably laugh a little and learn a lot. He helps us understand why #BowWowChallenge, #FyreFestival, and Donald Trump are all about the same thing. And how you can both discount and revere Eminem at the same time. DJ Will Clarke: How to make sure people have the best time ever
EWe caught up with DJ Will Clarke before he took the DoLab stage at Coachella, week 2. He started playing clubs at 13 in his hometown of Bristol, UK, and then scored a residency at Kanya in Ibiza. He’s since built his own club brand and record label, Cut a Rug, and started making records with the Dirtybird crew, among others. In our brief sit-down, we got a little insight into what motivates Will: "the reason why I do it is so that people just have the best time ever.” We also picked up on how he’s been able to let go of control (a little) and how he handles his social media (spoiler: that’s the one thing he won’t let go of). Sofi Tukker: How to be an ambassador for joy
EWelcome to our second of three episodes recorded live at Coachella. Super big shout-out to the folks at Goldenvoice for hooking us up with press passes and letting us storm the field with our recording gear. Make sure you listen to the other two. Sofi Tukker makes it look easy. In person, as on record, the duo has an effortless charm that just seems like they’re having a lot of fun together. In our interview, they’re full of compliments for each other and their team, and appreciation for their fans. It’s infectious. We caught up backstage at Coachella and got them to share a few secrets before they hit the field to party. They give us some insights into how they work together so well and how they adjusted to (y’all might call it a pivot) early signs of success. DoLab's Jesse Flemming: How to do it without a plan
EThis week we bring you the first of three episodes recorded live on the field at Coachella. We talked the Coachella people into giving us press passes so we could sit down with a few creative folks in the midst of one of the world’s largest cultural phenomena. If you don’t already know, Coachella is special because it brings together people from all walks of life. Old and young, rich and poor, indie rockers, hip hop heads, ravers. Sophisticated music lovers and people going to their first festival. For us, it’s a life-changing experience, every year. Our guest today is part of the reason Coachella is so amazing. Jesse and his brothers are the producers of the Lightning in a Bottle festival, the Dirtybird Campout, and the DoLab stage at Coachella. Truly one of the best experiences you’ll have at Coachella. Sort of a hippie rave vibe but calling it that doesn’t do it any justice. Jesse takes time out backstage to let us in on a couple of DoLab's secrets. They never intended to start a festival — they were just trying to have some fun and find outlets for their art. As they’ve gotten more successful, they’ve also continued to question the mission and whether their success is aligned with their motivation. That, and a couple lessons in how to build a great company and curate for 25,000 people coming up in today’s episode. Vans Warped Tour's Kevin Lyman: It never gets easy
EKevin Lyman has accomplished more in the last year than most people will in their whole lives. He’s the founder of the Vans Warped Tour, the nation’s biggest punk rock gathering for the last 22 years. Along the way, he’s created a number of other tours and festivals, supported dozens of social causes, and inspired countless young people to pursue their passions and find their voice. He’s also got an agency that helps brands connect with the amazing community he’s built. What’s remarkable about Kevin is that it seems he works just as hard today as when he started. He still lives on the road, programs every show and even decides the set times. He’s even brought his family into the business. His oldest daughter manages the charities they bring on tour with hem. Listen to our interview to learn how Kevin stays connected to his business after all these years. Make sure you share this one with a friend. DJ Vice: How to be cool with making mistakes
EVice is the type of dude to make everything seem easy. His DJ mixes sound effortless, jumping between genres as if they didn’t even exist; he’s a natural interviewer on his YouTube show, Electric Taco; and he seems to slide from business to business (music production, sneaker shop owner, to name a couple) with style and grace. Turns out Vice works really hard to develop his skills, and he matches them with a confidence that he describes as humble bragging, but doesn’t sound like bragging at all when it comes from him. From he outside, it just seems like he’s good at stuff and he isn’t afraid to admit that to himself or to you. After years on the air at Power 106, Vice turned all of that skill, inspiration, and connection into a multi-faceted global business. He tells us how he’s been able to do that, and what he’s learned from folks like Kanye West and Justin Timberlake. Espree Devora: How to get it done
EIn today’s episode, Espree Devora is going to teach us about being all-in. She blew through our studio like a whirlwind of positive energy, and told us stories about giving everything she has to her life’s passions, at times, even compromising her health to be “the girl who gets it done.” Her secrets: Outsource as much as you can, never let fear slow you down, and show people you appreciate them. Espree also tells us about how her company, We Are LA Tech, is connecting the tech community in innovative ways. Karam Gill: Lessons from the G-Funk era
EG-Funk was the sound that truly brought hip-hop into the mainstream. Dr. Dre’s The Chronic ignited a cultural firestorm that would blaze for the better part of the 90s and embed rap music into every aspect of modern culture by putting streetwise, often violent storytelling over smoothed-out George Clinton samples and live instrumentation. We could take you through all of the twists and turns, but without Dre, there’s no Drake. Our guest today, Karam Gill, is telling the West Coast gangsta rap story in a new documentary, G-Funk. Told from the viewpoint of Warren G — producer, rapper, and Dr. Dre’s stepbrother — and the other creators of the sound that shook the foundation of our world. Karam lets us in on his secret — how he scored his first documentary gig, which happened to be about a movement that happened before he was even born. Most youngsters wouldn’t even have had the guts to ask for this job. He didn’t just ask: he got it. Jon Levy: How to work 100% of the time
EJon Levy calls himself a nerd. But his life is anything but nerdy. He’s the author of The 2 AM Principle, lessons gathered as he built his own life of adventure. Catherine Burns: Live from SXSW
E"This job is one of the great loves of my life, so I feel so lucky to get to do it.” What an amazing thing to be able to say about your work. So much better than her previous career: "The thing I hated about it the most was just going to get worse the better I did.” She’s spent almost the last two decades as artist director at The Moth, helping storytellers shape their stories before they get up on stage. The moth has brought us over 20,000 stories through its live events around the world, as well as books, podcasts, and The Moth Radio Hour on NPR. We interviewed Catherine live on stage at SXSW as part of the Dropbox Podcast Studio, a daylong event featuring five podcasts: — — — — and, for the first time ever in Austin, Rebel Radio. News spread quickly about Catherine’s wisdom, and by the end of our interview, what had been a pretty empty Parish Theater was nearly full. Word-of-mouth travels fast at SXSW. Catherine shared her own stories from her journey from filmmaking into helping storytellers by constantly challenging them to raise the stakes of their stories. She says the first thing she does is find the thing that really matters to the storyteller, because that’s what will matter to the audience. She also talks about the challenges she’s faced along the way. Keeping a brand fresh for nearly 20 years is no easy task. She and her colleagues continue to do it for the love, and challenge each other to get better and better over time. Check out Catherine’s story right here... Mark Sperling: Do What You Love
EMark Sperling is a connector. He connects people to knowledge and each other through his Group Y events and online community. He connects brands to youth culture through action sports and music. For those familiar with the culture, there are a lot of flashbacks here, from the 432F show to the beginnings of the X-Games, Warped Tour, up to last year’s Complex-Con where Mark led the programming of Complex Conversations. In our interview, he tells us how he makes it all happen, braves the highs and lows, and stays focused on his mission. Although he says he’s not into self help, his mantra, “Do what you love” could be the title of a bestseller in that corner of the bookstore. Find out more here... Nico Golfar: How to Be a Collector of People
ENico is better with people than anyone we know. Famous people, rich people, even people like you. That's because he treats everyone like they're important. He comes by the Rebel Radio studio to tell us how he does it. We take notes. It sounds like a ton of attention to detail and a bit of being genuinely interested in people. ELuggage isn’t an industry you’d think of as ripe for disruption. Unless your name is Netta Shalgi. Today’s guest set out to make a better suitcase. He started his journey 11 years ago with an idea and some design skills. Fast forward to last year, his G-Ro luggage launch raised over $4 million on Kickstarter. The first bags shipped at the end of the year. They’re dope. Just making a cool bag with big as wheels wasn’t enough. Mike Walbert is A3C's executive director. On a recent trip to LA, he stopped by the Rebel Radio studios to give us the lowdown on what it’s like being at the center of hip hop culture in 2017. He gives us some tips from his journey from college radio DJ to entrepreneur, and how he was inspired by SXSW to build something meaningful to the local community and beyond. DJ Skee: How to just go for it and not worry about mistakes
EDJ Skee has retired from more successful careers than most people have ever had. He's been a DJ, producer, marketer, TV host. Mark Cuban called him the Oprah of music and he's been called the Ryan Seacrest of hip-hop. These days, he's the founder of Dash Radio, which aims to be the #1 online radio platform in the world. They're off to a good start: Dash hosts Rebel Radio on the Theory of Mind channel, and also features shows from many of our previous guests: Baka Boyz, DJ Hapa, Beat Junkies (Mr. Choc episode), Strange Music (Dave Weiner episode). We stopped by the Dash Radio studios to catch Skee on his location. No surprise — he's one of the sharpest minds you'll come across. Articulate, thoughtful, and fast. He fires off details and theories; we just try to keep up. Skee's formula for success: - Just go for it: take risks - Absorb information; do your research - Know when to let go so you can make room for the next thing Hope you enjoy the interview as much as we did. Justin Rezvani: How to be Relentless
EJustin Rezvani wants me to get an Amazon Echo. I don’t want an Amazon Echo. I want Apple to get it’s shit together and make products that blow us all away. What’s great about Justin is that he isn’t weighted down by all of that nostalgia. His favorite DJs are some guys he heard at Burning Man last year. Not some dude he’s been rooting for for the past three decades. In other words, Justin’s only real passion is success. And it shows. At 28, he was recently named to Forbes’s 30 Under 30, and sold his company for what seems to be a tidy sum. That success may have softened him up a bit, but he shows no signs of anything but forward motion. Lucky for us (and you) he came through the studio to drop some knowledge. #1: Be relentless. DJ Hapa: How to be bilingual in business.
ECalling Hapa a DJ doesn’t quite tell the whole story. Actually, his story is so big that we had to split the interview in to two episodes so we could bring you all of the lessons he has to share. In Part 1, we’ll dig into the beginnings of Hapa’s journey — from early inspiration from the Invisibl Scratch Picklz to becoming America’s first TV news DJ, to launching the LA campus of Scratch DJ Academy and helping build that brand as a leader in DJ culture. Taso: How to keep it positive no matter what
ETaso is an interesting dude. Boston street kid with a heavy spiritual side and a powerful positive mental attitude. In our interview, he quotes The Four Agreements and remembers The LOX vs. G-Unit battle. How often do both of those come up in the same conversation? He seems like the type of dude who would find a way to be successful at whatever he does. But he’s also 100% music. As part of the Teklife collective, Taso is helping bring the footwork genre to the forefront of dance music. Never heard of footwork? That’s because you’re sleeping. All you need to know is it’s gonna make you dance. Patti Astor: Vote With Your Feet. Vote in the Street
EPatti Astor is punk as f… She was the star of hip hop first great b-movie, Wild Style. As the owner of the FUN Gallery, she helped to promote the careers of important graffiti artists like Jean Michel Basquiat, Dondi, Rammellzee, Lee, Futura. She never really made a dime. And that’s kind of how she wanted it. In a world filled with opportunists and con artists, we have Patti Astor: "I made a commitment to those guys when they came into FUN Gallery that this is going to be the artist's gallery and I'm going to make it my promise to you that you are always going to be represented the way that you need to be seen. Just because they're all gone doesn't mean that commitment is over.” At age 66, still as idealistic and opinionated as ever, Patti graciously came by our studios to drop knowledge as only the Queen of the Downtown Screen can. All you young badasses can learn a thing or two from her incredible stories. A couple of her lessons: - Never sell out. Slimkid3: It's good when you hit rock bottom because there's nothing but you.
ESlimkid3 was a member of The Pharcyde back in the 90s, bringing us some of the most fun hip-hop at a time when most of the music coming out of New York and LA was so damn serious. Their hits like "Passin’ Me By” and “Runnin’” blew up worldwide, and then everything fell apart for the group. Now Tre is in our studio telling us how he was able to start over and build a career that’s now into its third decade. Today, he’s partners with DJ Nu-Mark in TRDMRK; he’s part of the rock band Backbone, and he’s performing live with his former bandmate under the name Bizarre Ride, as well as tearing up the dance floor as a DJ. A couple secrets to his success: - Just don’t give a fuck. He’ll tell you how things started happening when he learned to stop caring what people thing. - Get lost in the music. EBua blends hip hop, graffiti, and fine art in a way that’s completely unique. His painting, The DJ, is among the highest-selling posters of all time. I’m sure a lot of you have had it hanging in your bedrooms. But Bua started out with everyone telling him he was no good. His teachers and friends urged him to give up painting. Good thing for us he didn’t listen. He inched his way out of mediocrity, ignoring the critics at every step, working harder and harder to master his art. That’s what it takes to be successful in any creative endeavor. Check out our interview for tips on developing a think skin, and knowing your lane. So much good stuff here. Shira Lazar: How to be a boss in Social Media
EShira Lazar graciously let us into her home, made us espresso, and gave us her secrets to being a digital media celebrity. More than almost anyone else, Shira has bridged the gap between traditional and digital media. After starting out as a tv newscaster, she learned that blogs and social media gave her more control over her own destiny. Instead of waiting for someone to hire her to report the news, she could reach viewers directly through her own channels. That shift brought tremendous opportunity, like becoming her own brand and appearing on countless red carpets and getting complements from legends like Joan Rivers. It also brought some big challenges, as you’ll hear in our interview. She teaches us some valuable lessons, such as: - Too much self-awareness can be a bad thing - How to balance creating value for your audience with creating value for yourself - When to work for free and when to say no *EDM Track of the Week: https://soundcloud.com/chill/froogle-intoxicated-luke-cusato Learn more about your ad choices. Jarret Myer: How to be number one at something
EJarret Myer is one of our favorite entrepreneurs. He's built at least three successful companies, including Rawkus Records, which helped launch the careers of folks we love, like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, El-P (now of Run the Jewels), High & Mighty, among others. In many ways, Rawkus kept hip-hop rooted in the underground just as it was breaking through to the mainstream. He also launched and currently runs Uproxx.com, which seeks to bring an insightful perspective to the insanely competitive world of digital publishing, in which his contemporaries have all but abandoned editorial or artistic integrity in order to squeeze out a few more clicks. Jarret comes through with all of the wisdom you'd expect from someone in his position. Among the gems: 1. Know your mission statement. 2. Figure out your superpower. Then you'll know your place on the team. 3. Ask yourself really hard questions.
