Soren Baker's Guide to Greatness
Soren Baker is a good listener. We get him talking about what he's learned in thousands of interviews for outlets including The Source, Hip Hop DX, the LA Times, in addition to his own Unique Access Entertainment channel. Not to mention the books he's written with and about Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, Tech N9ne, The Game, and his latest — The Gucci Mane Guide to Greatness. As you'd expect, Soren learned a lot — A LOT — about hip hop and the people who make it. But he's also learned a bit about himself, especially how to go after what he really wants in life, without changing up his style. "I'm very soft spoken 95% of the time... But rap is the thing that I love the most, so I want to be the best. I want to be embraced and wanted to be recognized as being good at my job." Kash Johns: Focus on results
Kash Johns is a powerhouse of positive energy. It's no wonder his Atlanta-based company — Winners Circle Publishing & Management — is turning into a real hit factory, with 3 Grammy awards and over 30 #1 hits so far. Kash is guiding the careers of 24 producers including cats like Smash David, Go Grizz, Turn Me Up Josh, London Jae, Poohbeats, DJ Shawdy P. They're turning out hits for artists like Kevin Gates, NBA Youngboy, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Future, Cardi B, Da Baby, to name a few. In our interview, Kash shares some amazing stories of how he's built his career, including stepping away from music to build a trucking company. He also shares his philosophy on educating his clients and the broader music community. He even built the SCMC Music Conference to help other people learn what he's learned. Kash has a tireless hustle (we dare you to try to match his daily schedule) and an incredible positive mindset. It's a must-listen if you're looking for motivation or tips on turning small successes into bigger ones. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

TheDrop.com founder Matt Falcinelli: How to Tell a Story
ETheDrop.com is a streetwear and sneaker marketplace featuring hundreds of brands. You can imagine how quickly the business must be growing this year. Matt Falcinelli is the founder and CEO after learning the ins and outs of ecommerce at Backcountry and Skullcandy. He's putting what he learned towards bulding a company that changes the game for brands and shoppers. We dig into why storytelling is so important for driving sales and what brands are doing right — and wrong. Dig in and then go buy you some new gear. Learn more about your ad choices. Stormi Maya: You got to be unapologetic
EStormi Maya knows how to get shit done. Almost a dozen music releases this year + a movie in the works + keeping up a YouTube, OnlyFans, Instagram. She may be best known for her appearances in the 2019 movie Hustlers, starring Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu or the Spike Lee series She's Gotta Have It, but Stormi is on a daily grind of creating content and building her fan base. In our interview teaches us how to not care what the haters think, and how to sidestep the scumbags in the entertainment business. "I find it flattering that people care about what I do. I'd be more insulted if people didn't have an opinion." Meanwhile, she keeps putting out. Jazerai Allen-Lord: Be willing to walk away
EJazerai Allen-Lord says that sneakers are at the center of modern culture. We believe her. She's been writing about sneakers for over a decade, designed her own sneaker for Reebok, and is helping many of the major sneaker brands incorporate diverse voices into the conversation. She knows her shit. In today's episode, Jazerai puts us up on how sneaker brands are continuing to adapt to reflect a changing society, what personal integrity means to her, and what we can all learn from hip hop (and sneaker) icon DMC. Shawn Prez: You have to answer the call
EShawn Prez was building an incredible career at Bad Boy Entertainment, playing a key role in turning Puffy's company into a powerhouse of hitmaking and brand building. Then, one day, he quit. "I had to answer a greater call," he tell us. Because of the good work he had been doing, Puffy backed Shawn on his new venture Power Moves Inc., which now does urban marketing and promotions and is also the home of Shawn's other entrepreneurial ventures: NY DJ Con, the Global Spin Awards, and the Power Move Makers Podcast. Dang, that's a lot! Listen to our interview where Prez shares how he makes it all happen, how he handles criticism, and what we can do to learn from everyone, whether we like them or not. Adrian Younge: Stay focused
EThis week we connect with producer / composer Adrian Young for a masterclass in focus and discipline. Adrian is perhaps best known for his collaborations with Ali Shaheed Muhammad on the music for Marvel's Luke Cage as well as the Jazz Is Dead series featuring Jazz greats including Roy Ayres. But his list of credits is long and diverse, including film scores (Black Dynamite) and collaborators including Kendrick Lamar, Fat Joe, Lloyd Banks, DJ Shadow, Schoolboy Q, Gallant, Wu-Tang Clan, and more and more. He teaches us a bit about how he's developed that disciplined approach to getting shit done, and why having a law degree makes sense for a creative. Arabian Prince: In order to succeed, you've got to fail
ECheck out Arabian Prince's latest venture at https://covitech.us. He's doing important work to help small businesses respond to COVID-19. He was one of the founders of NWA. As he tells it, he left the group early on over business differences, but you'll also hear that the group's move into gangsta rap didn't really fit what he was about creatively. Since then, Arabian has been on a journey to blend creative and business moves in music, entertainment, and tech and has brought us some valuable lessons on how to get that right. We also get into a little politics and racism, because it's 2020, and you know that's all that's on anyone's mind. Icon Collective co-founder David Alexander: Be of Service
EToday's episode opens with a story David was telling as we were setting up to record. It's so good that we kept it in the show. The beginning is cut off, but the setup is that he went to Ultra Music Festival one year with no ticket and no expectations whether he would get in or what kind of experience he would have if he did. His only rule: Don't ask for anything, just give. I won't spoil the end of the story — you'll hear it in the episode — but I will say it was a great window into David's approach as an entrepreneur and human being and a great lesson about the rewards of always looking to be of service. Lots of other great stories in this episode as we track David's journey in building the Icon Collective, an amazing music production school in LA and online (https://iconcollective.edu). Special episode featuring The Passion Economy with Adam Davidson
EThis week we are dropping a taste of another great podcast into our feed. Check out a snippet of The Passion Economy, hosted by journalist Adam Davidson. Each week Adam talks to entrepreneurs who are thriving by building businesses around their passions. Sound familiar? The episode we're featuring is with Coss Marte, a former New York drug dealer who got fit in prison and then launched a fitness company when he got out. It's an amazing story and Coss is someone we'd want to have on this show, so it seemed like a great fit to share it with you all here. Reverse episode: Ethan Baer interviews Josh about leadership
EOnce in a while I like to practice giving up control. This week I hand over the mic (Not literally, we both had mics otherwise you'd only hear one person which wouldn't be great unless we were doing a one-person podcast, which we aren't. So glad we cleared that up.) to my collaborator Ethan Baer. Ethan is an entrepreneur whose hustle I respect a lot, and he had some questions for me about leadership and business smarts. Of course I start out by telling him some of the ways I've screwed up over the years. Braggadocio! Hopefully by the end we got to some valuable lessons and maybe I'll challenge your perspective on some things. Love to hear from you if I said anything you liked or hated. In the intro I also also ramble on a bit about what it means to be a rebel, which you'd think I would have down to a clean one-liner by now. I don't. I basically make the argument that rebellion is about bringing new ideas into the world, which are likely to meet a lot of resistance on their way to becoming mainstream. I hope our show challenges you to think about what ideas are burning in your brain, and maybe take some action to create your own rebellion. If you want to learn more about Ethan (which you should), you can check out my previous interview with him here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rebel-radio/id1009565465?i=1000408629511 He has also co-hosted a couple episodes with me: - Blake Coppelson, founder of the Proximity dance music label and YouTube channel: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rebel-radio/id1009565465?i=1000488734160 - Gareth Emery, global superstar trance DJ and producer: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rebel-radio/id1009565465?i=1000484746391 If you liked this one, check out the other flipped first interviews with Dennis White (https://soundcloud.com/rebel_radio/special-edition-the-reverse-interview-with-dennis-white) and Milana Vayntrub {https://soundcloud.com/rebel_radio/milana-vayntrub-enough-about-me-lets-talk-about-you) Music featured in this episode: KOH - 4Da Soul THRWDWN ft. Disco Donnie: Time + Effort + Love
ELegendary rave promoter Disco Donnie is our guest this week. He was perhaps the only promoter to be prosecuted under the draconian "crack house statutes" that were invoked to try to bring down dance music in the late 90s. Even that couldn't stop him. Today, his operation is stronger than ever. Donnie recently bought back the company that bears his name and is producing some of the most popular raves in the country. Even in the middle of a pandemic, Donnie is making bold moves. He's got big lessons to share about having a vision and going after it. You can check out his shows at https://www.discodonniepresents.com You can also hear him as a panelist at our AMP Music Summit back in May: https://ampmusicsummit.com/videos/#anatomy-of-a-festival-cancellation Music featured in this episode: THRWDWN ft David Ware: You With Me THRWDWN: Hot Trees Courtesy of White House Music (https://whitehousemusic.net) Learn more about your ad choices. Jerry Wonda: Make people feel good
EJerry Wonda's discography reads like the Billboard chart: Since co-producing the Fugee's mega-hit album The Score, he's worked with artists including Carlos Santana, Mary J. Blige, Busta Rhymes, Miguel, Lupe Fiasco, Migos, Melissa Etheridge, DJ Khaled, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Michael Jackson, and many more. Oh, he also prooduced Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie," which is the biggest-selling record of the century. Music runs through this man. But as much as Jerry makes hits, it sounds like he cares more about the good he can do in the world, whether his philanthropic work with MusiCares, or his new message-driven spoken word project with Ras Baraka, the mayor of Newark, NJ. We join Jerry in his studio in Minnesota to talk about (and listen to) music, legacy, and leadership. We get a little glimpse into what it takes to stay at the top of the game for more than two decades. Dig it. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Proximity's Blake Coppelson: From curation to creation
EBlake Coppelson turned his Proximity YouTube channel into a record label and is now building the company into a lifestyle brand. Want to learn how? First, he built the channel up to 8 million subscribers by posting the hottest EDM tracks each week. Listen to the interview to hear the rest, and where he's planning to take it next, and what he's learning along the way. Then check out some new music at www.youtube.com/proximity. Welcome back to our co-host Ethan Baer who joins us again for this episode. Ethan was a co-host on the interview with Gareth Emory and is the head of electronic music at Create Music Group. Peace Inside Live with Shira Lazar and Jordana Reim: How to make the most of what you have
EI love this one because we're highlighting two entrepreneurs building something in the middle of a pandemic. They aren't waiting for things to get back to normal. They know they don't have it all figured out. They're just executing. They're passionate about the cause, and they're using what they have to create value, to be a beacon for other people, and to build a community of people who care about the same things. Sounds like a formula for success. Shira Lazar was a previous guest on the show. She's the founder and host of What's Trending and is a social influencer and entrepreneur. We're excited to welcome her back to the show. She's partnered with Jordana Reim — former advertising executive and yoga teacher and host of Mount Everest Base Camp wellness experiences — to create Peace Inside Live (https://www.peaceinside.live), a community of instructors hosting classes in yoga, mindfulness, and other resources to impact our mental and physical well-being. Much needed in 2020 and pretty much always as the challenges of modern living continue to pile up. In our interview, they share a bit about how they got a new business off the ground in the midst of all this craziness as well as how they're continuing to learn on the job and to allow collaborators the room to bring their unique contributions. After you listen to this episode, you're going to want to take a class with them. Classes are free so don't forget to make a donation. Felix Jaehn: How to water the good seeds
EI caught up with Felix over FaceTime at his home in Berlin. At only 25, he's already had a #1 hit in over 55 countries (2014 remix of Omi's Cheerleader), and been through the ups and downs of mental health challenges that often ride alonog with success. Just before quarantine, Felix visited the Plum Village Buddhist Monastery in France (is that like a new age Slum Village?) to get his head right. In our interview, he shares some generous insights into what he's gone through to balance personal and professional success and how he's come to find gratitude and joy. Something we can all use a bit more of. Raymond Roker: How to win by evolving with the seasons
EThis is a special episode. Raymond Roker has been more of a mentor to me than probably anyone else. He gave me my first job out of college and he helped me start a career in marketing when we launched an agency together over 20 years ago. Even though it's been more than a decade since we've worked together, I still hear his voice in my head sometimes when I'm considering big decisions. He's also the founder of URB Magazine, which more than any other media, defined underground culture in the US. After URB, he went on to launch The Red Bulletin, Red Bull's lifestyle magazine, and most recently produced the Coachella documentary as head of content at AEG. If you haven't see that yet, you should watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjwilAja7Lc There's so much we didn't get to from our 30 year friendship and business relationship, and in putting this show together I noticed we didn't talk too much about music. Hopefully we'll have Raymond back soon and dig into some of that. But we did get some valuable nuggets of wisdom about how to weather the seasons of business and culture and why we all must always be working on our reinvention. Persue: How to build a brand that will outlive you
ECould Bunny Kitty become the next Snoopy? Persue is gonna find out. Today, graf artist Persue gives us a masterclass in branding. After getting his start as a designer for DC Shoes, he went on to build a career painting walls and doing brand work, and then developed Bunny Kitty, an anime-inspired character that has turned into its own brand including clothing and accessories, plush toys, and a children's book, with more to come. He also created the Wetpaint movement (@wearewetpaint) which features hand-painted "wet paint" subway signs in collaboration with artists from all over the world. Great lessons in the evolution of a career and creating a legacy. Want to work on your coloring or lettering styles? Gareth Emery: Never Give Up
EOn this episode we introduce a new co-host: Ethan Baer. Ethan is SVP and head of electronic music at Create Music Group and was previously co-founder of EDM.com. Ethan is a talented entrepreneur and was a guest on a the show in 2018. This time he helps me interview British trance god Gareth Emery. Gareth has won the prestigious A State of Trance Tune of the Year award three times and has ranked as high as #7 on the DJ Mag Top 100. He makes funny videos, including the "We Are CVNT5" series, hosts radio shows and pocasts and makes us tired with his incredible work ethic. You can listen to that episode here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rebel-radio/id1009565465?i=1000408629511 In our interview, he explains it wasn't always this way. Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff of Lettuce: Be Both a Leader and a Follower
E"We're all human and we're all going to have some days where it feels like the walls are crashing in around us. But most of the time, I think if you can focus on the tasks at hand rather than the big picture, that's going to keep you kind of occupied." Wise words on staying focused during these trying times from Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff, guitar player for Lettuce, one of the funkiest live bands out there. For those who don't know, Lettuce is one of the bands keeping funk alive with performances around the world, now more than 20 years in the game. They got a Grammy nomination this year for Elevate, their fifth album, and have a new album out this summer: Resonate. Shmeeans is gonna teach us some valuable lessons: how to keep a partnership healthy for over 2 decades, how to give feedback to people who might not want it (start with sorry), and more. Bear Grillz: Build The Hype
EBear Grillz is in a category with Marshmello, Deadmau5, Daft Punk — he DJs in costume, in his case a giant bear head. Despite that light-hearted approach to stage presence, he takes his business seriously. He started out promoting clubs and then booking tours before getting behind the decks himself. What a great way to learn the business! Now, he's begun exploring his identity without the costume, and at the same time tackling important issues of mental health that affect him and fans alike. Really intersting journey. Check it out now. If you liked this one, check out our interview with Caspa & Rusko: https://soundcloud.com/rebel_radio/caspa-x-rusko Learn more about your ad choices. Ryden: Be Your Own Superhero
EOne of the amazing things about music is how people come to it as a career. Some start out as kids and never stop down that path. Others pick it up late and just jump right in. Ryden shows us that maybe the path matters. She studied classical music as a kid, then became an athlete and martial artist, a pre-med student in college, a TV host doing interviews on red carpets, and then finally started DJing, rapping, and producing. She also overcame physical and mental health challenges and, as she says, became her own superhero. One of her guiding principles comes from Tony Robbins and could not be more relevant in 2020: "Instead of asking, 'how is this the worst thing that ever happened to me?' Ask yourself, 'how is this the best thing that's ever happened to me?' That's when it becomes fun. Because, yes, this is hard, but there's awesome things that are coming out of it, too." EC-Minus has been at the center of LA's hip hop scene for many years, from multiple mixshows on POWER106 to behind the wheels at Motown on Mondays to holding it down at BReal.TV. He also played an important role in the rap-rock explosion in the late 90s, DJing on tour with Korn and Foo Fighters and bringing a rock show to hip hop radio. sKitz Kraven: I want patience, but I don't want to wait for it
EThis is one of those "don't judge a book by its cover" episodes. sKitz Kraven is a horrorcore rapper and has been called "the Marilyn Manson of rap," which either appeals to you or it doesn't. What we found out is that as an artist and businessperson, he's much more complex than that. Sure, he makes angry, dark, twisted music that has helped to settle the rage inside him and connect with the rage inside his fans. But he's also exploring other sounds and energies and sharing them through a #newmusicmonday strategy that's pretty interesting. He also takes us through learning about TikTok and what a difference it's made in his career, and how he's thinking differently about live performance from a lot of his peers. Dig it. Steingold: "Everything I've gotten is from being in the mix"
EMusic heads are going to love this one. Steingold is our latest guest representing Detroit. He's in good company. So far we've had Kenny Larkin, Latroit, Tuxedo, Rude Jude, Josh Glazer, Chris Denson, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some. And yet, Detroit's contributions to culture run so deep, we've barely even scratched the surface. Steingold is the epitome of doing it for the love. He produces house and techno music, and DJs, often touring with Mike D from the Beastie Boys. He also worked at MySpace early on and co-founded a tech company. In today's episode, he shares some insights into straddling those two worlds and how he stays connected to the people that enable him to make moves. In our interview we talk about... She's the host of the awesome podcast, The JV Club where she talks to friends and other actors about how their childhoods shaped their adulthoods. James Andrews: Hip hop is the way we do business
EJames Andrews is the definition of a hustler. He moves with ease through music, technology, investment circles — collecting and connecting. He came through the studio to shed light on the launch of his new venture: The Authenticated, which is part members-only social network, part brand advisor and startup factory. He shares some great stories from his journey and helps us understand how hip hop has impacted business as much as it has culture, and how you can launch a startup the way you would break a record. Latroit: How to win a GRAMMY
EWe're back once again with Dennis White aka Latroit aka Static Revenger. He was our very first guest ever, and came back a couple years ago and interviewed me. Links below. Since then he won a GRAMMY for best remix of Depeche Mode's "You Move," and today we're learning a bit about what that does for someone's career and how to leverage wins to keep the momentum going. This is a short episode, and it's part one of three with Latroit. Coming up, we'll be tackling a couple topics relevant to his business and seeing what we can learn from each other. Brent Rollins: I want my work to speak for me
EBrent Rollins is one of the people responsible for the way our culture looks. He has been creative director at Complex and Ego Trip (including The White Rapper Show), designed some of your favorite album covers (Black Star?), and worked on iconic films with Spike Lee and John Singleton. Plus Nike. Plus Undefeated. Plus... He shares some strong opinions on where culture is going and where it's come from, and also gives us some lessons on how to think about creativity and the quality of our work. Booyah! Too $hort: Make it last forever
EIf West Coast hip hop had its own Mount Rushmore, Too $hort would definitely be on it. Ryan Kavanaugh: How to be a player (without playing the game)
ERyan Kavanaugh has been a controversial figure in entertainment. He built a very successful business at Relativity — perhaps the largest independent movie studio, plus management businesses in sports, music, and e-sports. He also made some enemies. He was critical of the Hollywood establishment, and took some beatings in the press for his innovations. Ryan came by the studio to tell us how he's tackling the future of media and culture with Triller, building the next big Hollywood idea with the Entertainment Stock Exchange, and how he's learned to build the kind of company he wants to work for. Great lessons here from a leader who's enjoyed incredible highs and lows. My man earned his stripes and he's not afraid to share what he's learned. Tayy Brown: I get DMs talking about "you changed my life"
ETayy Brown didn't set out to make music with a message, but sometimes the message finds you. "I got a DM from somebody, said that they was close to committing suicide, and they said that I helped them. That's when I knew I should be doing this." Tayy is a singer and rapper from Maryland, making music that bangs from his hood to Rolling Loud, to on tour with Ski Mask The Slump God. He came by the studio to give us the real about how to come up without losing yourself. How to stay focused on what's important. How to engage with fans without letting that take over your life. John Lewis: More throttle, less brake
EJohn Lewis is what you get when you combine a corporate dude, an entrepreneur, and a motorcyclist. He's passionate, but tempered, realistic. He rode up to our studio to share some lessons he learned working at Nike, Burton, building his own coffee company, and consulting for the motorcycle industry. He's also probably the first guest who came prepared with notes of lessons he wanted to share. Here are two of the favorites: 1. Swing the bat and go down swinging. Failure is one of the most important things you can do as you go through this process that we call life. 2. More throttle, less brake. When something isn't feeling right, sometimes just by applying more pressure — applying more spending or applying more pressure to your sales force — you can sometimes get a desired result. Junior Sanchez LIVE at ADE: Look how records affect people
EThis episode is a master class in house music. Junior Sanchez is perhaps the youngest of the house music dons. He's at the tail end of the giants who defined the genre and set the pace for the generations to follow— guys like Kenny Dope and Louie Vega, Armand van Helden, Roger Sanchez, Todd Terry, Harry "Choo Choo" Romero, Kerry Chandler. Junior plays the kid brother, and in that role, he's the one stirring thing up, crossing genres, challenging the status quo. In a room full of rebels, he's the rebel's rebel. We caught up with Junior at last fall's Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) and got him to share some thoughts on his own career as well as where our music has come from, and where it's going. DJ B-Hen: How do you show up for people?
EDJ B-Hen comes by the studio to show us how it all matters: Not just the work we do, but how we present the work, how we talk about the work, how we sell the work. This dude has his game tight. He's bringing new dimensions to DJing — more dancing, more fun, exploring music from different places and genres. Lots to learn here. LP Giobbi: Get there sooner
ELP Giobbi is a busy woman. We were lucky to get a few minutes with her backstage at the Shrine before she opened for Sofi Tukker. In addition to a national tour, she's still producing and releasing music; and she's a co-founder of Femmehouse, a nonprofit that teaches women to produce electronic music; and she's the North American music director for W Hotels; and she runs the Animal Talk Collective which hosts parties, provides music publishing, and more. Damn, that's a lot! We cover a lot of ground in a few minutes: hearing stories of her come-up as well as lessons learned along the way about collaboration, prioritization, and other -ations. Dig it. Cito featuring Suigeneris: Stay consistent / creativity takes practice
EThis week's guest brought a surprise guest. Cito AKA Cito on the Beat is a producer on the rise. He already has tracks with some of today's biggest names: YG, TyDollaSign, Kevin Gates, Lil Skies, Troy Ave, Tory Lanez, Cardi B. And he's only just begun. Cito came through the studio and brought his artist Suigeneris aka Suie, a 16 year old trap rapper from San Jose. Suie's first single, "Now" features Lil Skies and he's quickly joining a new generation of artists who release music rapid fire for our streaming pleasure. They gave me some great insight into a what it means to be an artist or producer in 2019 and beyond. For some of us old folks it's easy to sit on the sidelines and compain about how nobody makes good music anymore, but hearing from these guys about what they're going through is illuminating for real. Hope you'll check it an let us know what you think. Daniel Miller: Find the story
EDaniel Miller is a journalist at the LA Times. He's also the creator and host of the Larger Than Life podcast which chronicles the fascinating life of Big Willie Robinson, a leader in LA's street racing culture in the 70s and 80s. A Vietnam veteran Green Beret who stood 6’6” and weighed over 300 pounds, Big Willie was larger than life for real. The podcast takes us from his beginnings to becoming a character who would bring together crips and bloods, celebrities and politicians, and play a key role in the volatile race relations of the time. It's an amazing listen that we hope you'll enjoy here: https://www.latimes.com/projects/larger-than-life-podcast/ Daniel shares stories from the podcast, in addition to his own stories of getting comfortable on the mic and learning to embrace the way that media is changing today. Kevin Allocca: Stay curious LIVE from Cannes Lions
EKevin Allocca gets paid to do what most of us do for free: Watching YouTube videos. I caught up with Kevin at the YouTube beach club during Cannes Lions and he took a half hour away from speaking on-stage and advising the world's biggest marketers to tell us about his fascinating job as the head of trends and culture at YouTube. He and his team are responsible for helping their brand clients understand why some things go viral and how to make content that's relevant and gets watched. He gave us some great insights into the way YouTube has changed over the years and the role it plays in the daily life of the world, and also what it means to him to have his finger on the pulse of billions of people. Samantha Ronson: The Tastemaker LIVE from Cannes Lions
EI met up with Samantha Ronson at the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity and we sat on the rooftop of the FQ Lounge overlooking the Bay of Cannes. Not a bad place to talk to one of the world's most interesting DJs. The audio is a little funky because we're outdoors but our expert producer was able to make it sound pretty good. Samantha shared some details of her personal life — famous family, famous relationships — and a lot about her journey as a musician. We almost managed to get into an argument about "woke culture" but unfortunately it turns out we pretty much agree. Side note: If you're in a creative business, you should definitely be attending Cannes Lions. DJ Brace: Show and prove
EThis week we sit down with DMC champion and Juno Award (that's like a Canadian Grammy) winner DJ Brace. If you look him up online, you'll learn pretty quickly that the term DJ doesn't really do him justice. Sure, he plays records, but he does so much more than that. There's one video where he's working both hands and a foot pedal and basically making up songs as he goes. He also produces music. And makes tools for DJs. And designs turntables. And plays festivals. And teaches. And more. Check it out. Dave came by the studio with our occasional co-host Eddie Donaldson to talk about his newest project Life After Death: A street art persona that allows Dave to express his creativity, dig into politics, and address issues that affect all of us in modern living. "I'm a talent scout. I'm looking for people who are in love with a problem that if they figure out an ingenious way to solve it, their investors make tons of money."
