Critics seem to be either loving or hating it, but no matter what side of the Queen Bey camp you're on you have to give it to the woman that she is a BOSS for putting herself out there is such a different genre than what's she's known for. If I'm being brutally honest I truly debated whether on not to answer one particular Ask Riley question for today's episode. I even considered editing it out after I told the story because there are a few things that are truly sacred in life. One of the most sacred being my marriage. Kristin Cavallari broke the reality TV internet last week when she and her 24 year old boyfriend Mark Estes posted kissing pictures on their personal instagram pages. The two have been public since february of this year and have a 13 year age gap between them. I personally don't bat an eye at that age number being that my husband Marshall and I are almost seven years apart, with me being the elder of the two. (cringe that I just used the word elder to describe myself). But Hollywood seems to have an issue, or at least has lots of opinions on the subject. In this episode I sat down with the husband to get his take on the double standard of age gaps with men and women dating in Hollywood. This People Magazine article on whether or not you should leave your person or companion in the dust at TSA if they don't have PreCheck peaked my interest because this has been a long standing argument between my husband marshall and I. As a matter of fact, he's actually done this to me before while we were just dating. But trust me, he did it for an excusable reason otherwise I'm not sure that we would be husband and wife today. Coming up in my early days in terrestrial radio I didn't have many, if any women mentors. Not that I think any less of my male mentors, but there is something special that happens when two women that respect each other get together to have an open and honest chat about the broadcasting industry as it pertains to women. I may have been a fitness ambassador for the past 7 years and have integrated the lifestyle into just about every facet of my life including how I first bonded with the love of my life. But let's be clear on one thing, I NEVER try and position myself as being able to train or create fitness plans for anyone. That would just be irresponsible of someone without actual experience and the factual knowledge, or most importantly the degree to do so. My husband Marshall however, has a degree in exercise science as a registered strength and conditioning coach with the National Strength and Conditioning Association and has successfully trained clients including myself for over 10 years. I regularly get requests from listeners who have watched my fitness videos for advice on training, or even asking for samples of workouts that I would recommend for a beginner. This last year has been one where my hormones just completely went out of whack and the thing that's been effected the most had been my sleep. Through a bit of research and a ton of frustration I came to learn that my cortisol levels have been way too high and that's the culprit for my 3am wakeups. Whenever I have a huge event coming up I always tend to over think my look. Which nine times out of ten has me hating what I spent hours and lots of dollars to put together. One of my favorite questions from this weeks Ask Riley was hands down "What's the WORST piece of advice you've ever received?" Being someone that prides themselves on giving advice from mostly an experience based perspective (as opposed to trying to pretend that I'm a know-it-all) I can honestly say that there are some people who would think I'm crazy for not taking this particular piece of advice. One might I add that was given to me by one of my closest family members. But sage advice isn't always a one sized fits all type of scenario. But as a former single mom, there's something that I've heard more than once that IRKS me beyond belief when people (that actually have that village youre supposed to have when raising a child) will say it. That husband of mine sure does know how to swoop in and make a girl feel special. As much as a pain in the arse as I can be at times, he truly does see me and my vision for where I want my aspirations in life to go. He believes in my dreams so wholeheartedly that it's usually the times that I can't believe in myself that he will pull surprises like this out of his hat and remind me why I am oh so beyond blessed to have him. From almost the first few months we've been together to five years in, he's been elevating not only my heart, but my dreams as well. My friend, my mentor, Kane/Peter Deibler died on March 6th, 2021. Through the good, the bad, and some of the incredibly ugly, he was one of the greatest radio personalities there ever was. In this episode I show you a bit more of the man that he was before, during, and after everything in his life started to crumble. And please be aware that I know not all of it was pretty, or even anywhere close to excusable. But perhaps by telling more of the story if the man, versus the monster it will help someone to choose the right paths over the wrong ones. So why you ask did I wait 3 years and 5 days to give a proper tribute to him? Some will call it opportunistic or strangely timed. And in truth that is truly fine with me. To that I say two things that Kane taught me when he was still the man that was my radio idol. The very first person in my life to give me a true chance. 1.) I can't worry about the keyboard warriors that have never walked a day in my or his shoes. And 2.) I am confident in the fact that my feelings are REAL and TRUE and this isn't about anything but honoring the memory of cherished times past, and making new hope for more good times in the future. Why is it so hard for us as adults to just be selfish? Well let me backup and say that differently? why is so hard for good people to be selfish in a way that benefits them? As little kids we have absolutely no shame in asking for what we want, and saying no even when we know that our parents are going to get mad at us if we do. Asking for what you want seems like it should be like second nature for any adult human right? Its been a very long time since I've gone down this section of memory lane, and my trauma with one particular relationship from my past that shaped who I am as a person today. For a long time this relationship that almost turned into a marriage (TWICE) was one that made me lose a piece of myself that I feared I would never get back. I feared for the better part of a decade that the domestic abuse that I lived through would cause me to be jaded towards not just love, but any kind of trust in relationships in general. And I'd be lying if I said that my sweet husband had one hell of a job convincing me that true, healthy, trustworthy love in another person really does exists. But if I'm honest, as much as I adore that man of mine, U found that love long before I found him. Because after many MANY years of therapy and soul searching, I found it in myself.
