Ep 186Avoid Halfway Commitment: Going All-In is the Key to Achieving Your Goals

In this episode, we dive into a recurring conversation I've been having with a friend who aspires to start his own handyman and construction business. Despite having the desire to pursue this path, every time we speak, he keeps pushing back the start date. While he has been dabbling in some work on the side, he hasn't taken the leap to do it full-time, even though there is a strong demand for his services. As someone who is already in the same business and overwhelmed with demand, I find myself wondering what is holding him back. The key insight that arises from this ongoing conversation is the importance of committing to a decision and following through. Making a plan is just the beginning; it is essential to fully commit to that plan and go all-in. Of course, the fear of the unknown and the unpredictability of starting a new venture can be intimidating. However, by half-heartedly committing to something, we only set ourselves up for failure. To give ourselves the best chance of success, we must wholeheartedly believe in our skills, the demand for our work, and our ability to deliver. It's crucial to remember that taking risks is never a guarantee of success. Even in our current jobs or circumstances, there is always the possibility of failure. However, taking that leap of faith and fully committing to our goals gives us the opportunity to make our dreams a reality. It is a leap that requires courage, determination, and unwavering belief in ourselves. So, if you find yourself contemplating a similar situation, where you face a decision that could shape the trajectory of your career, remember this: you have what it takes to succeed. Take that leap and go for it. Have faith in your abilities, trust in the demand for your work, and execute your plan with unwavering dedication. I believe in you, and I know that with the right mindset and commitment, you can achieve greatness.

Ep 185From "How" to "Who": Unlocking New Possibilities by Surrounding Yourself with the Right People

In this episode, we delve into the powerful insights provided by "Who Not How" by Dan Kennedy. The book highlights the importance of being explicit about our vision and purpose as leaders. By clearly defining what we want to achieve, we can attract the right people who can help us make it happen. Rather than focusing on the "how," Kennedy urges us to shift our mindset and ask ourselves "who" can assist us in reaching our goals. This shift in perspective opens up a world of possibilities, as it allows us to collaborate with talented individuals who can bring their expertise to the table. By seeking out the right people to work with, seek advice from, and learn from, we can tap into our unlimited potential and achieve remarkable accomplishments. It's common for many individuals to feel overwhelmed by the size of their goals, but as listeners of this podcast, we refuse to let that hold us back. Instead of saying "I can't do that" or pondering "how can I do that," we ask ourselves "who can help me figure this out?" and "who can help me achieve everything I want to do in life?"During a training session, we encountered a powerful example that showcased the impact of finding the right people. High school students participating in a speed reading course saw their reading speed multiply by eight and a half times with the guidance of skilled instructors. Even those who initially struggled with reading experienced significant improvements. This example serves as a reminder of the incredible results we can achieve when we surround ourselves with the right individuals who can teach and train us.So, let's make it our mission to find those who can help us uncover our true potential and expand our horizons. By operating within our areas of strength and leveraging the expertise of others, there are no limits to what we can accomplish. The journey may not always be easy, but as long as we continue to push ourselves and do outstanding work, the possibilities are limitless. Keep striving, keep growing, and witness the incredible heights you can reach.

Ep 182Tailoring Communication for Success

During our time at the Next Level Men's Retreat in Florida, we had the opportunity to observe the fascinating interplay of different personality styles in various situations. It was truly amazing to witness the unique strengths that each style brings to the table. Throughout our sessions on leadership and rules of engagement, we couldn't help but notice the distinct communication and interaction styles among the participants. Some guys were naturally talkative and inquisitive, immersing themselves in deep discussions about how the topics directly applied to their personal lives. On the other hand, there were those who were more introspective and reserved, only sharing their thoughts when prompted. One individual stood out due to his expressive nature, openly sharing his own observations and reflections on how the presented concepts aligned with his own experiences. Another attendee focused not only on how the ideas impacted themselves but also on how they related to others in their life. In our diverse group, we had personalities ranging from task-oriented and outgoing high D's to outgoing and people-oriented high I's, as well as the more reserved and people-oriented high S's. As for myself, I identified as a reserved and task-oriented high C. Throughout the weekend, the dynamic among us was incredibly interesting, leading to engaging discussions and thought-provoking exchanges. When it came time for me to speak, I consciously tailored my approach to cater to the unique needs and preferences of each individual. The high D, for instance, sought a straightforward explanation of how the concepts directly applied to their own lives. On the other hand, someone else expressed their concern about understanding the potential impact on the people in their life. Meanwhile, another participant wanted a comprehensive understanding of how the ideas would benefit them personally, as well as their relationships and leadership abilities. As for me, I focused on ensuring that I had a thorough grasp of all the facts and that I executed everything correctly. It became evident that every individual had distinct needs, encompassing the what, who, how, and why aspects of the discussions. It is crucial to carefully consider these needs when interacting with others, regardless of the context – be it professional relationships, romantic connections, or simply spending time with friends. By paying attention to their behaviors, speech, and actions, we can adapt our own approach in order to establish stronger connections and achieve more favorable outcomes. It's important to note that this doesn't imply changing who we are at our core, but rather adapting our communication style to meet the diverse needs of those around us. By doing so, we can foster genuine connections and thrive in all aspects of our lives that involve interacting with others. Let's keep in mind the importance of doing good work and striving to understand and cater to the needs of those we encounter along our journey.

Ep 181NEXTLevel Men's Retreat Recap

In this episode, I begin by apologizing for missing a week of episodes without any notice. I acknowledge my weakness of forgetting small details when I'm focused on the podcast. However, I assure the listeners that I did not quit and inform them that we are only 20 episodes away from reaching episode number 200, which will be in the last week of November. I even tease the possibility of doing a giveaway for that special episode.Moving on, I share about the men's retreat that I recently hosted in South Florida. I mention that we had a small group of four guys and emphasize the amazing experience we had creating deep connections and lasting friendships. During the retreat, we explored various topics including leadership, finding purpose in life, and understanding different personality styles. Additionally, I highlight a fun activity we engaged in for the sake of preserving the Florida ecosystem - hunting invasive iguanas.I mention my intention to share bits and pieces of the retreat sessions in future episodes, as well as the effort I'll be putting into uploading videos from the retreat on social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. Lastly, I provide a list of the topics we covered during the retreat, which include rules of engagement, the 15 laws of the uncommon leader, the DISC model of human behavior, finding purpose in life, replacing broken soundtracks, leadership in personal and professional life, creating a life of purpose, and how all these aspects come together to create a life of impact.Ending the episode, I promise to be back again tomorrow, and encourage the listeners to continue doing good work.

Ep 180Don't Just Dream, Do:

In this episode, we delve into the importance of actively pursuing our dreams and taking charge of our own lives. We often talk about the significance of creating a life that aligns with our desires and allows us to make a meaningful impact, but mere discussion is not enough. We need to actively seek out opportunities and take intentional steps towards achieving our goals. Jim Rohn, a trailblazer in personal development, once wisely said that if we truly want something, we will find a way to attain it, but if we don't, we'll find an excuse. This serves as a reminder that we hold the power to shape our own destinies. If we relinquish control and allow others to steer our lives, we may find ourselves unfulfilled and living according to someone else's agenda. It's crucial to recognize that while as Christians we should align our lives with God's purpose, He has also equipped us with tools and entrusted us with the responsibility of deciding how to use them. We have the agency to make a positive impact on the lives of others and to lead a life that aligns with our passions and desires. The choice ultimately rests with us. So let us embrace the challenge, step up, and seize the opportunity to make a difference and engage in meaningful work.

Ep 179Protecting Your Digital Identity

The softwares mentioned in the episode:Cloaked.appBitwardenIn this segment, I want to talk about password managers and how they can help keep our personal information secure online. For a long time, I used LastPass as my go-to password manager. However, earlier this year, there was a major security breach that the company failed to inform its users about. It wasn't until six months later when a friend told me about it that I found out. This incident made me realize the importance of trusting the right platforms with our sensitive information. That's when I switched to Bitwarden. Bitwarden is a reliable password manager that not only securely saves login information but also allows for easy access to different accounts. It offers a variety of features, including a two-factor login for added security. With Bitwarden, I no longer have to worry about forgetting passwords or using weak ones.Another platform I highly recommend is Cloaked.app. Cloaked.app not only manages passwords but also provides secure email addresses and phone numbers to protect our privacy. By using Cloaked.app, we can easily block unwanted spam emails and texts.Overall, both Bitwarden and Cloaked.app are excellent options for managing passwords and keeping personal information secure online. They provide the necessary tools and features to ensure that our data remains protected from potential breaches. So, if you're looking for a password manager that you can trust, I highly recommend giving these platforms a try.

Ep 178The Mental Meat Grinder: How Unprocessed Thoughts Can Overwhelm Your Mind

On today's episode, we delve into the importance of prioritizing our mental health. Just like how our physical space accumulates clutter over time, our mental space also becomes overloaded with thoughts and unresolved issues. It's like a meat grinder, where each thought piles up without being processed. This mental clutter can leave us feeling overwhelmed and bogged down, without even realizing why. To prevent our minds from becoming clogged, it is essential to take regular time, preferably on a daily basis but at least weekly, to process our thoughts. By sitting with our thoughts, reflecting on the week, acknowledging our achievements, addressing challenges, and making action plans for the upcoming week, we can clear our minds and achieve better sleep and increased presence in the moment. So, don't forget to allocate time to take care of your mental space. Prioritizing your mental health is key to achieving clarity and well-being in your daily life.

These individuals are outgoing and people-oriented, thriving in fast-paced and social environments. They absolutely love being around others and engaging in fun-filled activities. When interacting with high I individuals, it's crucial to keep things light, enjoyable, and social. They highly value the opportunity to express their emotions and engage in discussions that have an emotional impact on them. Additionally, they have an incredible talent for striking up conversations with strangers, making them incredibly adept at building connections. On the flip side, there are a few things that high I individuals don't particularly enjoy. Firstly, they dislike having to make unpopular decisions or finding themselves in situations where they may face rejection. Ep 176Captivating with Stories

In this episode, we delve into the power of storytelling and how it can create a profound impact on our lives. The ability to tell a good story has the potential to captivate audiences and effectively convey messages. For me, this realization came at a young age while listening to a skilled missionary in church. His storytelling skills not only captured my attention but also inspired me. Since then, I have been on a journey to master the art of storytelling. To enhance my storytelling abilities, I have been exploring various resources, including PIP decks, which focus on improving storytelling and design skills. The evangelist I mentioned earlier played a significant role in my desire to become a compelling storyteller. Their ability to tell captivating stories, embedded with meaningful messages, sparked my passion for this craft.I am constantly learning and growing as a storyteller, continually practicing and striving for mastery. There is a speech coach I have been following on Instagram, who offers training on speaking and storytelling. Even though I won't disclose their identity on this podcast, I would be more than happy to share their information if you reach out to me.My goal in becoming a skilled storyteller extends beyond mere entertainment. I believe that by combining storytelling with a purpose, we have the potential to create life-changing experiences. So, join me in this journey of storytelling exploration and let's uncover the power it holds together.

In this episode, we delve into the concept of tackling life's challenges one step at a time. We explore the feeling of being overwhelmed and the belief that life is conspiring against us. It's easy to feel like we're being bombarded with difficulties, but we must shift our focus from the magnitude of the entire mountain to the next step in the right direction.Rather than trying to solve all our problems at once, we need to concentrate on the task at hand. It's about breaking down the big picture into manageable pieces. When faced with overwhelming situations, we must remind ourselves that we don't have to complete everything in one day. Ep 173The #1 Killer of New Businesses

In today's episode, we delve into the vital topic of accounting for overhead costs in business. It's a crucial aspect that often gets overlooked when pricing out projects. We often forget to factor in additional expenses such as equipment, vehicle costs, fuel, tools, and various insurances like vehicle insurance, tags, workman's comp, and general liability. I cannot stress enough how important it is to account for all these overhead expenses. Failure to do so can lead to working for free or experiencing burnout. Many small businesses fail within five years, and a significant reason for this is neglecting to include overhead costs in their pricing. To prevent this, it's essential to incorporate a rough percentage for overhead and profit in project quotes. By doing so, we not only increase the chances of acceptance but also ensure adequate compensation for the work we do. Let's always remember to do good work and consider all expenses thoroughly. By factoring in overhead costs and pricing our projects accordingly, we can guarantee that all our overhead expenses are covered and prevent unnecessary stress and financial instability. So, let's make sure to account for those overhead costs and thrive in our businesses.

Ep 172Winning Words: How to Connect and Influence the Outgoing Task-Oriented Individual

In today's episode, we delve into the world of communication and how different personality types respond to various words and phrases. We kick off this series by exploring the D in the DISC model, which represents individuals who are outgoing, task-oriented, and value control. These individuals thrive on being dominant within a group and have a strong aversion to losing.Describing the preferences of these ambitious and pioneering individuals, we discover that words like "bottom line," "results," "goal," "winning," "accomplish," "confident," "dominate," "strong," "success," and "action" resonate with them. These terms align with their drive and determination to succeed. On the other hand, there are certain words that these individuals despise. Phrases such as "maybe," "probably," "perhaps," "pretty good," "I'll try," "I'm not sure," "sometimes," "I could," "I'm pretty sure," and "not getting it done" do not sit well with them. These words convey uncertainty and a lack of commitment, which goes against their need for control and tangible results.Recognizing and incorporating language that reflects their desire for achievement and dominance can greatly enhance our interactions and relationships with these individuals. By understanding their communication preferences, we can foster more effective and positive connections with the D personalities in our lives. Stay tuned for the upcoming episodes, where we will explore the communication preferences of other personality types in the DISC model.

Ep 168Where your focus goes, your energy flows

In today's episode, we delve into the topic of energy and focus in the business world. It is crucial, whether you are an employee or a business owner, to direct your focus towards the task at hand. Our energy follows our focus, meaning that if we are scattered and unfocused, we will not be able to perform at our best.To shed light on this subject, we reference the book "The E-Myth Revisited," which identifies three key personality types in business: the entrepreneur, the manager, and the technician. Understanding these roles is vital for maintaining focus and avoiding distractions. We can all relate to witnessing employees who struggle to stay focused in a job setting. Instead of dedicating their attention to their work, they become consumed by their cell phones, checking social media, or browsing the web. This lack of focus negatively impacts their energy levels and overall productivity. The same concept applies to our relationships, where our phones often serve as a significant source of distraction. It's crucial to be mindful of how our energy and focus are being diverted from the things that truly matter, like our relationships, work, relaxation, and even meditation. While phones serve as a common example, the underlying message applies to any form of distraction we may encounter. We need to consciously direct our focus towards what truly deserves our attention. By doing so, our energy will flow more efficiently, enabling us to produce our best work. Therefore, it is essential to remember the mantra: where our focus goes, our energy flows. To achieve success in our work and personal lives, we must prioritize focus, channel our energy in the right direction, and strive to consistently produce good work.

Ep 167Rappelling Down the Mountain: The Surprising Lessons it Teaches About Business

In today's episode, we discuss the importance of embracing new opportunities in business and confidently transitioning between ventures or careers. I recently had a thought-provoking experience while visiting Arkansas, where I found myself wide awake in the late hours of the night, restless with excitement after arriving at my cousin's place. As I lay in bed, unable to sleep, my mind began to wander, reflecting on the successes and failures of various business ventures. It was then that a vivid image flashed through my mind – someone rappelling down a mountain. This vision became a powerful analogy for the process of transitioning between businesses or careers. When rappelling for the first time, many individuals instinctively lean forward, afraid that the rope might break or give way. However, this fear often leads to loss of footing, causing them to crash into the rock face. The truth is, the right approach is to lean into the rope, trusting in its strength, and confidently scale down the mountain. This mountain rappelling analogy struck a chord with me as I realized that many people face similar challenges when embarking on new ventures. Instead of clinging onto what is familiar, they should embrace the new opportunity without fear. Of course, it is crucial to validate the idea, seek advice, and ensure its viability. However, even in the face of lingering fear, when the time is right, we must lean into the new venture and embrace it wholeheartedly.Ultimately, the key to success lies in doing good work and fully embracing the next chapter in our business journey. It is normal to feel apprehensive, but just like rappelling down a mountain, we must have faith in ourselves, our abilities, and the strength of the rope to guide us safely to our destination. So let's not be afraid to take that leap and ascend the heights of our potential.

Ep 166Pushing Boundaries: The Challenges of Operating Outside Your Natural Personality Style

In this episode, we dive into the question of whether someone can operate in a personality style that's not their natural style over an extended period of time. Initially, I believed that doing so would inevitably lead to burnout. However, upon further reflection, I've come to realize that it is indeed possible to temporarily adopt a different personality style if the people around you are accommodating. When those around you allow and support you to be that type of person, it becomes much more manageable to operate outside of your natural style, even if it clashes with others. However, it's important to note that in the long run, constantly functioning in a style that is not inherent to you will drain your energy and make sustainability nearly impossible. That being said, if those around you are willing to acquiesce and follow your lead, it becomes much more feasible to take on a different personality style for a shorter period. For example, if you're naturally supportive and giving but have to temporarily operate in a more assertive and demanding role, it can be done. However, if you consistently face conflict and opposition from individuals with strong personalities, it won't lead to long-term success. Therefore, it is crucial to have a supportive environment that allows you to operate in the necessary style. If those around you aren't supportive, navigating the situation can be challenging. Nevertheless, with the right support, it's possible to adapt and produce good work in a different personality style than your natural one.

They remind us that even if we have invested a significant amount of money or effort into something, we don't have to continue with it if it no longer serves us. Ep 163Unlocking Insights and Elevating Conversations: The Art of Asking the RIGHT Questions

In this episode, we delve into the power of asking questions and the impact it can have on people's lives. We explore the notion that asking questions is often more effective than giving advice or offering solutions outright. Our guest reflects on their own journey of learning to ask better questions and how it has transformed their approach to helping others. They emphasize the importance of holding back and allowing individuals to discover their own insights and solutions through the art of questioning. By doing so, they have found that people are more receptive and open to exploring different perspectives and potential solutions. In fact, they have come to realize that sometimes the individual's perspective and solution may be even better than what they initially thought. The power of questioning lies in its ability to open minds and provide fresh perspectives. It doesn't always require complex queries; even a simple question like "how are you really doing?" can make a significant difference. The guest shares a personal experience where someone asked them this question, leading them to recognize their struggles and feelings of overwhelm. The key is approaching questions without the inherent intention of fixing someone, but rather being present and listening to understand. Nobody wants to be fixed; they want to be understood. By asking the right questions, we can provide a different lens for people to view their situations and empower them to determine what they need in their lives. The guest emphasizes that conversations are built on questions. Learning how to ask interesting and engaging questions is crucial, as it draws people in and makes them find us fascinating even when we're not the ones doing most of the talking. The advice given is to continue honing the skill of asking better questions and to remember the value of simply being present and listening. In conclusion, the episode sheds light on the transformative power of asking questions and highlights the importance of approaching conversations with an open mind and a genuine desire to understand. It serves as a reminder to continuously strive to ask better questions in order to create meaningful connections and positively impact the lives of others.

Ep 162Tuning Out the Noise: Finding Calm in a Chaotic World

In this thought-provoking episode, I delve into the topic of noise that engulfs our society today. While many may dismiss certain things, like Switchfoot's music, as mere noise, I personally find solace in their melodies. Nevertheless, the central issue at hand is the overwhelming amount of noise that surrounds us. From the incessant stream of news and weather updates to the influence of social media and the constant scrolling, it can feel as though we are immersed in a never-ending cacophony. At times, I even question whether my own podcast merely contributes to this collective noise or if it serves a more significant purpose. If you find yourself suffocating under the weight of this noise, if you struggle to find moments of tranquility or repose, if your mind is consumed by stress and you are constantly racing against time, then I implore you to silence this noise. Your well-being takes precedence over the number of listeners my podcast obtains. I do not want this podcast to be another source of noise in your life. Instead, I want you to reflect on the various sources of noise that surround you - the websites you frequent, the social media groups you engage with - and consider eliminating certain forms of noise, even if it means excluding my podcast. I wholeheartedly support that decision. Instead, redirect your focus towards embracing a calmer, more purposeful existence.

Ep 159The Essential Rules for Engagement: Building Strong Relationships

In this part of our conversation, we delve into the rules of engagement that I learned from one of my esteemed mentors. These rules are invaluable in helping us show up fully in every interaction, particularly when it comes to developing strong client relationships. The first rule that I learned is to lead with love. This emphasizes the importance of approaching others with empathy and compassion, treating them as we would want to be treated ourselves. By embracing this mindset, we can create a positive and supportive environment that fosters trust and connection. The second rule is to be curious first and critical second. This encourages us to approach conversations and disagreements with an open mind, seeking to understand the perspectives of others before passing judgment. By doing so, we can foster meaningful dialogue and build bridges of understanding.Next, we explore the concept of being a learner rather than a knower. This rule reminds us to always remain humble and open to new knowledge. No matter how experienced or knowledgeable we may be, there is always room to learn and grow. By adopting a learner's mindset, we can continuously improve ourselves and stay receptive to new ideas. The fourth rule highlights the importance of finding the gift or lesson in every situation. Even when faced with challenges or setbacks, there is always an opportunity for growth and learning. By maintaining a positive outlook and looking for the lessons, we can transform difficult situations into valuable experiences.Moving on to the fifth rule, we discuss the practice of full presence listening. This involves giving our undivided attention to others during conversations, actively engaging in what they have to say. By eliminating distractions and truly listening, we can foster deeper connections and understand people on a more profound level. The sixth rule encourages us to share wisdom rather than merely dispensing good advice. This means drawing from our own experiences and offering insights that have been truly earned. By sharing our wisdom with others, we can provide valuable guidance and help them navigate their own journeys. The seventh rule emphasizes the importance of win-win interactions or no deal at all. When engaging with others, it is crucial to seek mutual benefit and strive for outcomes that satisfy everyone involved. By focusing on win-win scenarios, we can build stronger relationships and foster a spirit of collaboration.Lastly, we explore the eighth rule, which revolves around honoring immersion. This means eliminating distractions and fully immersing ourselves in the present moment, whether it be during conversations or in our work. By practicing mindfulness and being fully present, we can make the most of each experience and cultivate a deeper sense of fulfillment. In conclusion, remembering and embodying these rules of engagement can greatly enhance our interactions and relationships with others. By leading with love, embracing curiosity, staying open to learning, finding the lessons in every situation, practicing full presence listening, sharing wisdom, seeking win-win outcomes, and honoring immersion, we can create meaningful connections and contribute to a more harmonious world.

Ep 157Flipping the Script: Is the "Soundtrack" True, Helpful, or Kind?

In this episode, we delve into John Acuff's book, which explores the impact of the soundtracks we play in our minds. These soundtracks directly influence our actions and achievements in life. The objective of the book is to shift these soundtracks from holding us back to supporting us in achieving our goals. To determine whether a soundtrack is worth keeping or discarding, we are encouraged to ask three important questions. The first question we should ask ourselves is, "Is it true?" Often, we find ourselves believing things that are not entirely true or are completely false. These beliefs may arise from past experiences or long-held narratives. It is crucial for us to critically examine these soundtracks and assess their truthfulness. The second question to consider is, "Is it helpful?" Even if a soundtrack may not be entirely true, it might still serve a purpose or add value in specific situations. However, we must evaluate whether it contributes positively to our lives. For instance, someone not liking us may be true, but we need to question whether it genuinely helps our happiness and progress. The final question we need to ask ourselves is, "Is it kind?" We need to determine whether the soundtrack we are listening to is kind and supportive towards ourselves. Does it make us feel better and encourage us, or does it bring us down? Our self-talk plays a significant role in influencing the way we live and what we achieve. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that our soundtracks are kind and supportive.Ultimately, the beliefs we hold and the things we tell ourselves shape our lives and determine our achievements. That is why we should continually evaluate our soundtracks, questioning whether they are true, helpful, and kind. By doing so, we can replace negative patterns with positive and empowering thoughts that support our growth and success.

Ep 156More than one way to get to 10: The path to finding PURPOSE

In today's episode, we delve into the fascinating concept of finding purpose in life. We explore the idea that just as there are numerous ways to reach the number 10, there are countless ways to discover and fulfill our purpose. We firmly believe that purpose entails leveraging our unique gifts, interests, talents, abilities, and personality to leave a positive impact on others. However, we also emphasize that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to uncovering and implementing our purpose. Each individual has their own distinctive path to follow, one that resonates with their core values and aspirations. While we have crafted our own definition of purpose and developed a method that works for us, we acknowledge that it may not be the ultimate solution for everyone.Instead, we encourage our listeners to seek out individuals who inspire and resonate with them. By learning from these individuals and exploring their methodologies, we can discern if their approaches align with our own goals and values. It is crucial to recognize that there are infinite possibilities when it comes to reaching our desired results. Therefore, it is essential not to become fixated on the notion that there is only one definitive right way.Ultimately, we urge our audience to take the first step on their journey towards purpose, remaining open to adaptation and growth along the way. Our paths may evolve and transform as we gain new insights and experiences. Through it all, the most important thing is to engage in meaningful and impactful work that aligns with our purpose and brings about positive change. So, let's embrace the infinite possibilities available to us and embark on this incredible journey of purpose together.

Ep 155"And" VS "But"

In this bonus episode, we dive into the power of words and how a simple change in our language can have a profound impact on our conversations, relationships, and overall worldview. Today, we specifically explore the difference between using the words "and" and "but" in our everyday interactions.Language is a remarkable tool that can either create bridges or build barriers in our interactions with others. By replacing the word "but" with "and," we can create bridges that promote what we are pursuing rather than creating opposition. The word "but" often implies contradiction or disagreement, while "and" allows us to build upon someone else's ideas, acknowledging their value and suggesting enhancements. By using "and," we are able to connect ideas that may not have coexisted before, encouraging collaboration, open-mindedness, and constructive dialogue.Just imagine the potential impact this small linguistic shift could have on our lives and the world. By replacing "but" with "and," we can foster stronger connections, find common ground, and create solutions that benefit everyone. In personal relationships, using "and" instead of "but" allows us to express our needs without creating a cutoff or barrier. It promotes understanding, empathy, and the coexistence of multiple perspectives. While there may still be situations where "but" is appropriate, being mindful of when to use "and" can bring grace and respect to our conversations, making them flow more smoothly. So, let's challenge ourselves to consider using "and" instead of "but" in our future conversations and witness the transformative impact it has on our relationships. Let's harness the power of language to build bridges and foster understanding. Together, we can create a world where our words uplift and connect rather than divide. Let's do good work.

Ep 154Building Meaningful Relationships: Unlocking the Power of Local Connections for Business Growth

In our Building Small Business Men's Mastermind, we recently had a fascinating call with Daniel Andrews from Network in Action. During the call, Daniel shared some incredible insights on how to go beyond traditional networking and actually build meaningful relationships with others in your industry. One of the key takeaways from our conversation was the importance of connecting with individuals who have parallel audiences or clients. Daniel emphasized that, as a business owner, it's crucial to seek out relationships with professionals who serve the same target audience as you do. For example, if you're a realtor, it would be beneficial to establish connections with lending agents, insurance agents, and even local tourism centers. By aligning your business with others that cater to your target audience, you can expand your network and increase your chances of receiving referrals. A similar approach applies to other industries as well. If you're in construction, for instance, it would be wise to forge relationships with those at the hardware store or other professionals involved in the construction industry. The key here is to focus on collaboration and providing impactful services, rather than solely seeking personal gain. By building a network of trusted professionals who offer high-quality work and consistently deliver satisfied clients, you can greatly enhance your business growth. Overall, Daniel's insights shed light on the significance of nurturing relationships within your industry and using those connections to generate referrals and expand your network. It's not just about networking for the sake of networking; it's about building strong relationships that have a real impact on your business.

Ep 153Unleashing Your Best: Lessons Learned from the Game of Baseball

In today's episode, I want to share something exciting with you. The Atlanta Braves, my favorite baseball team, just won their division for the sixth consecutive time! Now, I understand that not everyone may be interested in baseball, but hey, it's my podcast, and I get to talk about what I want. What impresses me the most about this year's Braves team is their exceptional hitting. While their pitching may not be as strong as before, their ability to hit the ball out of the park is outstanding. In fact, they are on track to break the record for the most home runs in a single season. Watching them play has been an absolute blast. This got me thinking about how baseball, just like life and business, has its strengths and weaknesses. The Braves understand the importance of focusing on what they are truly great at and letting the other aspects support their strengths. If they were to prioritize improving their pitching at the expense of their hitting, it simply wouldn't work. They need to lean into their strengths. And the same concept applies to you in your own life and work. It's crucial to identify your biggest strengths and embrace them fully. What are you truly excellent at? What sets you apart from others? Lean into that and let it be your foundation. Of course, it doesn't mean neglecting other areas, but rather, allowing them to fill in the gaps and support your strengths. So, take a moment to reflect on your own unique talents and abilities. What makes you exceptional? Once you've identified your strengths, harness them and channel your energy into doing exceptional work. Remember, just like the Atlanta Braves, success comes from focusing on what you're best at and letting everything else support you.I hope this little reflection inspires you to embrace your strengths and pursue excellence in your own endeavors. Remember, do good work and watch the magic happen.

Ep 152The Missing Piece: Uncovering the Deeper Purpose of Work

In this episode, we delve into the concept of turning a problem into a solution and how it can help in various aspects of life. The main speaker begins by sharing their personal struggle with their construction business, where they no longer find passion and face difficulties with finding reliable workers. With projects often delayed and a busy schedule, they ponder upon creative solutions. A key realization is that some people believe it's hard to find a good job, while others believe it's difficult to find good help. This clash arises from the desire for high-quality work at a low cost. To navigate this, the speaker emphasizes the importance of providing the best service possible and charging what the service is worth. They share an anecdote of a client comparing their construction services to a good dentist, highlighting the value and loyalty that comes with exceptional work. Inspired by this, the speaker has found a solution to their dilemma – starting a small business under their coaching and consulting company, Empowering Forward Momentum. Here, they help men discover their natural talents and build businesses that create positive impacts while also providing for themselves and their families. The goal is to make a bigger impact and fill the void in the market for individuals seeking work and desiring control over their time and finances. The speaker acknowledges that building a business is challenging, but with the right support and guidance, obstacles can be overcome. They encourage listeners to reflect on the problem they are solving in life and strive to make a difference through their work.

Ep 149Unrealized Growth = Untapped Potential

Telegram channel for updatesTelegram group to chat and connectIn this episode, we delve into the concept of finding our purpose and living a life of growth and impact. We explore the idea that instead of simply going through the motions and prioritizing money, we should focus on aligning our actions with our purpose. Personally, I have identified "growth" and "impact" as the defining words for my life. I am committed to continuously growing in all aspects and making a meaningful impact with everything I do. Even the simplest activities, like spending time with friends, can contribute to personal growth and have a positive impact on a smaller scale. However, it is crucial to think beyond the immediate and strive for a greater purpose. To help others discover their own defining words, I have created a formula: "unrealized growth equals untapped potential." By neglecting personal growth and failing to put in the necessary effort, we limit our potential for impact. We may only operate at a fraction of what we are truly capable of. However, when we actively pursue growth and adopt a mindset of continuous learning, we unlock unlimited potential for impact. It is important to remember that growth and impact may not always be immediate or apparent. However, we must persist and remain committed to learning, growing, and positively influencing others. This is how I aim to fulfill my mission of growth and impact in life, and I invite others to join our Telegram group, "Finding the Next Level," to share their own life missions.Let's strive to do good work, continuously grow, and make a meaningful difference in the world.

Ep 148Cracking the Code: From Ignorance to Leadership

In this episode, we delve into the concept of the leadership circle, a modified version of the leadership arc. The leadership circle symbolizes the continuous process of growth and mastery in various aspects of life. It all begins with ignorance, where we lack knowledge or understanding in a specific subject. As we become aware of this ignorance and begin to gain knowledge, we embark on a transformational journey, climbing up the other side of the circle. This journey is not without its challenges, but it ultimately leads to mastery and leadership in that particular area.Once we reach the pinnacle of mastery, we mustn't rest on our laurels. Instead, we move on to the next challenge, entering the ignorance phase again. It is crucial to seek assistance and guidance throughout this cycle of awareness, transformation, mastery, and leadership in order to continue growing.Undoubtedly, the journey can be arduous and demanding, but it is precisely through pushing through these challenges that we are able to become true leaders in our chosen fields. The leadership circle reminds us of the perpetual learning and growth required to excel and make a difference. So, let us embrace the cycle and strive for greatness in all areas of our lives.

It's a surprising realization that focusing on work can help us forget about our pain or sickness. Ep 145The Importance of Action: Why Talkers Who Don't Walk Should Be Avoided

In this episode, we delve into the topic of connecting with others and the impact it can have on our personal and professional lives. We explore the experience of encountering someone who, despite initial expectations, evokes a strong feeling of dislike. There was an indescribable quality about this person that made the host want to distance themselves. It became apparent that this individual was more focused on talking than taking action. The host expresses a preference for conversations that stimulate them intellectually and contribute to the overall flow of activities. On the contrary, random and irrelevant conversations that disrupt the environment are met with resistance. Despite the suggestion from others that the host and this person would get along, an instant aversion is felt upon meeting them. The host acknowledges that their response may have seemed rude, but their priority was to stay focused on work and not indulge in unproductive conversations. It's frustrating when someone boasts about their accomplishments but fails to demonstrate any tangible results. This person perceives themselves as the most intelligent individual in the room, but their lack of action speaks louder than words. Ep 1436 Hacks for Maximizing Your Day

In this episode, we dive into six hacks to help you manage your time effectively like a pro. We all know the importance of time management, but it's not about managing time itself; it's about managing ourselves within the time we have. So, let's explore these six strategies that you can implement today to optimize your time.First, it's crucial to leave some wiggle room between your time blocks. It's easy to fill our calendars with consecutive tasks, but we often forget to account for breaks or unforeseen delays. By incorporating buffer time, you'll not only avoid exhaustion but also increase your overall productivity.Next, getting organized is key. While most of us may not be naturally organized, taking the time to organize ourselves in advance can save us from wasting hours searching for misplaced items. Studies show that, on average, Americans waste about two and a half days each year on such endeavors. Imagine what you could accomplish by simply being organized. The third hack involves applying the 80-20 rule, also known as the Pareto principle. According to this rule, 80% of your results stem from 20% of your actions. Identify the actions that bring you the most significant outcomes and focus on them. Consequently, eliminate the unnecessary actions that don't contribute to your goals. Moreover, instead of wasting time while waiting, make every minute count. Rather than mindlessly scrolling through social media or performing trivial tasks, utilize that waiting time productively. Work on quotes for clients, draft social media posts, listen to a podcast, or read a book. Transform those moments into valuable opportunities.Fifth, organize your tasks in blocks. Time blocking is an effective method to enhance productivity. By grouping similar tasks together, you reduce repetition and become more efficient. For instance, dedicate specific periods during your day to check emails or manage social media. This way, you avoid switching between unrelated tasks and optimize your workflow.Lastly, consider doing less. It's common to take on more than we can handle, resulting in subpar outcomes both in our professional and personal lives. Instead, focus on the tasks at which you excel and delegate or eliminate the rest. Spreading yourself too thin leads to disappointing others because you overpromise and underdeliver. It's better to do fewer things but do them exceptionally well.By implementing these six time management hacks, you'll become more productive and proficient in managing your time. Incorporate buffer time, get organized, follow the 80-20 rule, make waiting time productive, organize tasks in blocks, and strive to do less in order to achieve more.

Ep 139Avoiding The 1 Mistake Small Business Owners Make

In this episode, we discuss the importance of having a specialty when starting a small business. It's a common mistake to want to serve everyone and offer a wide range of services, but this can actually hold you back in the beginning. As you grow and become more established, diversifying your offerings becomes easier. However, when you're just starting out, it's crucial to know what your focus is.For example, in the construction industry, it's important to narrow down your services. Instead of claiming to do everything in a house, it's more effective to specialize in specific areas like remodels and decks. By limiting your services to a few related areas, you can market yourself more effectively. When someone asks what you do, being able to confidently say you specialize in remodels and decks will make a stronger impression than claiming to do everything. The key is to niche down and become known for your specialization. By marketing yourself as the best in a particular area, you attract clients who specifically need those services. Once you have a solid reputation and client base, then you can consider expanding into other areas that complement your initial specialty. Ultimately, the advice is to start as a specialist and become well-known for that before expanding. By focusing on delivering exceptional work within your niche, you'll gain credibility and trust in your chosen field. So remember, when starting a small business, find your specialty, do good work, and watch your business thrive.

Ep 138Attack the day: Creating a strong morning routine

In our recent mastermind session, we delved into the valuable business tips outlined in Donald Miller's book, Business Made Simple. One particular suggestion that resonated with us is the importance of prioritizing high-return opportunities in the morning, when our minds are at their freshest. As professionals driven by our core values, it is crucial for us to understand how to effectively allocate our important tasks during this time. While it is true that everyone's brain functions differently, research suggests that for most people, especially those over the age of 25, the morning is the optimal time for peak performance. During this period, our mental energy and alertness are firing on all cylinders. Unfortunately, many of us fall into the trap of engaging in low-return activities such as answering phone calls or responding to emails before addressing more pressing projects. In doing so, we unwittingly squander our valuable mental energy. Consequently, when we finally have the time to focus on important tasks later in the day, our drained brains are unable to perform at their best. This not only hampers our productivity but also deprives us of the satisfaction of knowing that the most crucial task has already been accomplished. I must admit, personally, I struggle with this issue. Far too often, I find myself wasting precious time and energy in the morning on trivial matters like checking the news, sports scores, or scrolling through social media. Instead, I could be making significant progress in my business by focusing on areas such as marketing, copywriting, web design, or working on estimates and quotes. Rather than easing into the day gradually, I should be attacking it aggressively, tackling the tasks that genuinely move my business forward. It is essential for each of us to evaluate our morning routines and make necessary adjustments. By dedicating our initial hours to important work, we can set the stage for a more productive day overall. I encourage you to reflect on your own routine and ensure that you are prioritizing important tasks in the morning. By accomplishing them early on, you will free up time to handle other responsibilities later in the day, without sacrificing the quality of your work.Let us reinvigorate our mornings, transforming them into a time of heightened productivity that propels both our personal and professional lives forward. Remember, always strive to do good work.
