Ep 236Escaping Vacation

Yes I know, I disappeared last week without warning. Apologies. In other news, I'm back and better than ever. Fresh off a cruise with my wife, sister, and bro-in-law. I had no service on the ship so there was no chance to record and upload while away.Today's episode is all about creating a life that you truly love and don't want to retire or escape from. It's about finding work that ignites your passion, helping others along the way, and making a positive impact on the world around you. I believe vacations should serve as a time to connect with loved ones, rather than a means of escaping reality. Keep doing good work.

Ep 235New Business Tax Compliance Requirements

Go to Agorist Tax Advice to learn more about how to structure your business for the best tax advantages. In this episode, we have important information for small businesses, especially registered ones like LLCs or corporations. Starting January 1st, 2024, almost every corporation or business (except sole proprietorship or partnership without an entity) must file a beneficial ownership information report. This one-time filing is required for anyone owning 25% or more of the company or those exercising substantial control. The deadline to file is December 31st, 2024, for companies created on or before December 31st, 2023.If your entity was created in 2024, you have 90 days to file from the creation of your LLC. For entities created on January 1st, 2025, or later, you have 30 days to file. If there are any changes to the beneficial owners, you must file an amended report within 30 days. It's crucial to comply with these requirements to avoid issues with the government. Failure to comply may result in civil fines of up to $500 per day per entity, criminal charges, up to two years of prison time, and a criminal fine of up to $10,000. Despite the inconvenience, it's best not to wait and file on time. Now, let's talk about seeking legal assistance for filling out the report. There is an option to contact Matthew, a tax attorney who is now offering accounting services to select clients. He can provide a consultation to determine if his services are required. The cost for his assistance would be $250 plus $25 for each additional beneficial owner after the fourth. However, it's important to note that this is not necessary for most businesses. So, if you have a formal business like an LLC, it's essential to stay focused and continue doing great work, despite any challenges imposed by the authorities. Remember, complying with these reporting requirements is crucial for your business to avoid any legal complications. Stay informed, stay compliant, and keep moving forward.

Ep 233How can systems help?

In this episode, we delve into the significance of implementing systems in various aspects of life and business. But before we explore this topic, I'd like to share my personal experience with Qualia Mind, a nootropic known for enhancing mental performance. Initially skeptical, I've only encountered one crash since I began using it. If you're intrigued, visit neurohacker.com for more details.Back to the subject of systems, I can't stress enough their importance regardless of the tasks at hand, be it household chores, construction projects, or tending to livestock. Systems play a big role in creating smoother operations and managing unexpected circumstances. For instance, when faced with frozen pipes, I have a system in place to quickly get the water flowing again.Systems are equally important in the world of business. They encompass communication with customers, the quoting process, and handling payments. In my line of work, we ensure consistency and clarity by collecting 50% upfront, another 25% halfway through the project, and the final 25% upon completion. This system benefits both my clients and me. I've also established a specific timeframe to deliver quotes, adding further structure to this area.I urge you to add systems in your own life, whether related to your business, job, or profession. Even if certain aspects involve variability, it is still possible to systematize certain components. By putting systems in place, you eliminate the need for constant decision-making struggles. As someone undergoing substantial changes in their business model, I fully understand the significance of having robust systems in place. Without them, tasks tend to slip through the cracks and deadlines get postponed. I strongly encourage you to assess your daily routines and identify areas where you can implement systems. Not only will this enhance your efficiency, but it will also result in better outcomes.

Ep 232Don't be like unseasoned firewood

In this episode, we delve into an interesting analogy about firewood and how it relates to our own personal growth and impact on others. The host reflects on a recent experience with firewood that was cut shorter than usual, causing difficulties in igniting a fire and producing good heat. This leads to a realization that people can be similar in how they affect those around them. The host draws a parallel between well-seasoned firewood and individuals who have learned from life's experiences. These seasoned individuals have a positive impact on others, just like the firewood that burns efficiently and provides warmth. On the other hand, there are people who constantly complain and whine, making it challenging to achieve positive results or warmth from their presence. The host emphasizes the importance of striving to be well-seasoned individuals who positively influence the lives of others. They encourage us to learn from our own experiences and use them as tools for personal growth and the betterment of others. It is a reminder that we hold the power to choose our actions and how we impact the world around us.In conclusion, the host encourages listeners to do good work in whatever they choose, reminding us of the potential we have to make a positive difference. By being well-seasoned like firewood that produces good heat, we can create a meaningful impact on the lives of those around us.

Ep 2306 Drivers of Success

In this episode, we delve into the concept of success and explore the different meanings it holds for individuals. Success can be defined in various ways, such as maintaining sobriety, achieving financial stability, personal growth, or being a better family member or friend. To attain success, there are six key drivers that we need to develop. The first driver is setting clear goals. By establishing well-defined goals, we can provide ourselves with direction and purpose. Without goals, we risk falling into a pattern of failure or inaction. Secondly, self-discipline plays a crucial role in achieving success. It entails following through on our commitments, even when we may not feel like it, and staying true to our values.Time management is the third vital driver. By effectively managing our time, we can make the most of the limited hours we have. Learning to prioritize and allocate our time wisely becomes paramount in our journey towards success. The fourth driver is self-motivation. Sometimes, external sources of motivation may dwindle, which is when our internal drive becomes essential. By discovering our personal why and cultivating a passion for what we do, we can find the motivation to persevere.Effective communication serves as the fifth driver. When we communicate clearly, we foster strong relationships, collaboration, and understanding. Improving our communication skills can greatly enhance our chances of achieving success. Lastly, perseverance is the sixth and final driver. Success is often met with challenges, setbacks, and obstacles. By remaining resilient and determined, we can stay focused on our goals and overcome any obstacles that come our way.In conclusion, success is achieved through hard work and unwavering commitment to our goals and values. By developing these six key drivers – setting clear goals, demonstrating self-discipline, managing our time wisely, nurturing self-motivation, honing our communication skills, and persevering in the face of challenges – we can pave our path towards success, whatever it may mean for us.

Ep 229The Cost of Inaction: Unknown

In our recent mastermind call, we had the opportunity to hear from a Profit First coach who shed light on the principles of the Profit First book and the obstacles that often hinder individuals from taking action. One particular concept that resonated with me was the idea of the cost of inaction. While many people believe that if they don't make any changes, nothing will change, the coach presented a compelling scenario to challenge this assumption. He asked us to imagine doubling a dollar every single day for 31 days, which would result in over a billion dollars. This illustration showcased the significant cost of delaying action, with each day of delay halving the potential growth. Although this doubling exercise may not be practically achievable, it sparked a personal challenge within me. I began contemplating what I could do to double my own financial resources every year for the next 31 years. The idea of potentially becoming a billionaire by the time I turn 70 excites and inspires me.Furthermore, this concept prompted me to think about the journeys we all undertake to achieve wealth and secure our financial future, especially with the understanding that the world is not necessarily becoming a better place. It is crucial that we take action now to not only benefit ourselves but also ensure the well-being of our loved ones. Additionally, by leveraging wealth as a powerful tool, we can make a positive impact and contribute to making the world a better place. While taking care of ourselves is vital, it is equally important to extend our purpose and fulfillment by reaching out to others. Time is uncertain, and none of us know how much we have left. By consistently doubling our financial resources each year, we can establish a solid foundation for our own well-being and leave a meaningful legacy for future generations. Ultimately, it all comes down to doing good work and making a difference in the world.

Ep 228Small Acts, Big Impact

In this episode, we delve into the power of making a positive impact on the world around us. It all starts with a simple moment during a call with a membership group, where my dog's barking interrupts the conversation. To my surprise, it's a couple of Jehovah's Witnesses at the door, looking to engage in a meaningful conversation. We touch upon a topic that lingers in our minds: Things in the world, will they get better or worse? After bidding farewell to the Jehovah's Witnesses, I find myself contemplating how I can make the world a better place. A recent call from my neighbor, who warned me about the impending cold weather and suggested proactive preparations, echoes in my thoughts. These incidents bring forth a realization: while I might not have the power to change the entire world, I have the ability to improve my own little world - to create a positive impact on the lives of those around me, even if it's just for one person.A smile or a small act of kindness can go a long way in brightening someone's day. We never truly know what others are going through, so by being a beacon of light to those we encounter, we can have a profound effect. Imagine if every person strives to make the day of the person in front of them just 1% better - the collective impact would be tremendous. This realization becomes a guiding principle in my life. No matter what path I choose, I remind myself to do good work and positively contribute to the lives of others. Whether it's through small acts of kindness or finding ways to uplift those around me, I can make a difference, no matter how seemingly insignificant it may appear.Join us in this episode as we explore the simple yet powerful concept of making the world a better place, one small act at a time.

Ep 226Leadership Is....

In this episode, we dive into a thought-provoking discussion about leadership. While traveling home from a disc event in Alabama, I find myself contemplating the concept of leadership, particularly after being inspired by a book called "Company of One". From my perspective, true leadership begins with oneself. It involves having a clear understanding of the type of person one aspires to be and actively striving towards that ideal. It's about becoming someone that others naturally want to follow and emulate.Recognizing the need for personal growth, the next step in leadership is setting a vision and direction for various aspects of life, whether it be family, church, or organization. Just like a captain of a ship charting its course, a genuine leader establishes the direction and gathers a team to work towards that common goal. However, a leader's responsibility extends beyond setting the course; they must also invest in the people who are instrumental in realizing the shared vision.Within a "company of one", it becomes crucial to differentiate between roles, whether it's being a CEO or focusing on sales and marketing. Every action taken should be aligned with the overall vision. It's important to note that leadership is not about having complete control over every aspect; rather, it involves creating a compelling vision and empowering others to contribute to its achievement. Surrounding oneself with competent individuals in areas where one may lack familiarity is essential for success.Having shared my perspective on leadership, I am keen to hear your thoughts and insights on this topic. Let's engage in a thoughtful conversation about what it means to be a leader and how we can continually grow and improve in this role.

This sense of purpose will serve as a powerful motivator during challenging times. Taking care of yourself is another crucial factor. It's easy to get caught up in work and neglect your well-being, but remember that you are the engine driving your business and life. Prioritize exercise, sleep, and hobbies that rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul. Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals is also essential. Find a supportive network that understands the unique challenges of working solo. They can provide advice, encouragement, and hold you accountable to your long-term goals. Joining memberships, masterminds, or attending industry events is a great way to connect with fellow solopreneurs. Embracing failures and setbacks is a necessary mindset shift. Setbacks are opportunities for growth and improvement. Finally, don't forget to celebrate your wins, no matter how small. Recognize and acknowledge the progress you're making towards your long-term goals. Celebrating milestones will help maintain a positive mindset and keep you motivated on your journey. Ep 224How NOT to earn your customers' trust

In this episode, we delve into the importance of authenticity when dealing with customers. Our host begins by expressing frustration towards false advertising and misleading tactics used by some businesses. Specifically, they share their personal experience with purchasing Notion templates online. Being a fan of the Notion app, they were excited about the prospect of buying these templates for $27, and even purchased two additional upsells. However, their excitement quickly turned into disappointment when they never received the templates they paid for. To make matters worse, our host discovered that they had been automatically subscribed to a monthly recurring software without their consent. This information was not mentioned anywhere on the sales page, which focused solely on the templates and resale rights. Only after a closer look did they notice a small blurb at the bottom of the ad mentioning the recurring subscription. Our host describes this marketing tactic as highly inauthentic and sleazy. However, they managed to obtain refunds for the upsells they purchased. Despite the negative experience, our host decided to keep the Notion templates because they genuinely enjoy using them and see the potential for resale in the future. This personal encounter serves as a reminder of the crucial role authenticity plays when interacting with customers. It highlights the importance of being transparent and genuine in marketing and sales efforts.

Register for "Designing Your 2024".In today's episode, we're talking about adaptability and the importance of being flexible in both life and business. I've had a bit of a different day myself, as I had planned to work on the house but ended up helping a sick friend with sales calls instead. This unexpected turn of events has made it challenging to focus on other tasks. Tomorrow might be unpredictable as well, but I'm still determined to work on getting the siding done. If anyone wants to lend a hand, just let me know.We all have those days when things don't go as planned, but it's crucial to remain adaptable. Even though I personally struggle with adaptability at times, I'm learning that it's essential to use changes to our advantage instead of being swept away by them. Going with the flow while still accomplishing our goals is the key.As we continue to grow in both our personal and professional lives, it's important to exercise our adaptability muscle. We need to become more flexible and not let unexpected changes throw us off track. This is something that I'm currently working on as I transition to a new business. If you have any tips or insights about adaptability, please feel free to share them in our Telegram group. Let's keep flexing our adaptability muscle and continue doing great work.

Ep 213One Step at a Time: Learn, then DO

In this episode, I share my recent transition from the construction field into marketing and coaching. I've taken on my friend's mini barn business as one of my first clients, and it has been quite the interesting experience. While I have worked with Google ads in the past, I've come to realize that there are always little changes and updates to be aware of. For example, Google has specific guidelines on how to use punctuation and capitalization in ad titles.Managing these ads has presented a learning curve for me, but it has also taught me valuable lessons about tracking, click-through rates, and cost per click. Moreover, it has been a great opportunity for me to prepare for running my own ads and attracting customers to their businesses.I am grateful to my friend for giving me this opportunity, as they understand that while I do have some experience, there is still room for growth and learning. I have offered them a favorable rate, and we have already started seeing conversions and people clicking through. However, now it's all about refining the process and building a strong customer base.Through this experience, I want to encourage others to start at a base level and continue to refine their offerings as they progress. It's not necessary to know everything before getting started; the key is to do good work and continuously strive for improvement.

Ep 212Habit 1: Be Proactive

In this episode, we dive into the insightful book "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen R. Covey. We start by exploring the first habit, which is to be proactive. This habit urges us to take charge of our lives, rather than being at the mercy of external circumstances. By focusing on what we can control, we empower ourselves to shape our desired outcomes. In contrast, reactive individuals tend to blame outside forces for their problems and lack personal responsibility.Moving on, we delve into the second habit, "Begin with the end in mind." This habit highlights the significance of having a clear vision for our lives and aligning our choices with our core values. When we identify our end goals right from the start, it becomes easier to make decisions that are in line with our ultimate aspirations. To further enrich our discussion, the host encourages listeners to read the book and participate in a discussion revolving around habits 3 and 4 in our next episode. It's an opportunity to deepen our understanding and share insights on these fundamental principles for success. In closing, we are reminded of the importance of doing exceptional work in whatever we pursue. Good work not only reflects our commitment and dedication, but it also contributes to our personal growth and helps us achieve our goals. So, let's strive to make a positive impact through our actions and always give our best effort.

Ep 211The Quickest Path is a Straight Line....or is it?

In this episode, we delve into the concept that the shortest path from point A to point B might not always be a straight line. We explore recent illustrations that challenge this traditional belief and show that going through challenges can actually help us reach our goals faster. One example that caught my attention is a video showing two tracks for a ball to roll down. One track is a simple straight line with a slight angle, while the other track has hills and valleys along the way. Surprisingly, the track with ups and downs proves to be much faster than the straight one. This demonstrates that in life, facing obstacles and embracing challenges can lead to valuable lessons and ultimately accelerate our progress. When we encounter hardships, we learn important lessons by climbing uphill and falling downhill. These experiences teach us far quicker than if everything went smoothly. If everything is easy, we might miss out on important lessons and eventually face a significant failure without the resilience built along the way. While there may be situations where walking straight towards our destination without major barriers is the quickest route, life rarely presents itself in such a straightforward manner. Instead, we should embrace the hardships we encounter as opportunities for growth and learning. These experiences shape us and equip us with the skills and abilities necessary to fulfill our potential, reach our purpose, and make a meaningful impact. So, it is crucial to remember that everything we go through is ultimately helping us become the people we are meant to be. We should embrace the challenges and find peace amidst the hardships. By continuing to do good work and staying dedicated to our journey, we can overcome obstacles and achieve our goals.

Ep 209Discovering Your Core Values

In this episode, we delve into the topic of identifying our core values and how it can guide us in our personal and professional lives. To start off, I emphasize the importance of self-reflection as a means to uncover our true values. I suggest finding a quiet and comfortable space where we can deeply ponder on what truly matters to us. Whether it's by the calming presence of nature or the ambiance of a coffee shop, the goal is to create an environment conducive to introspection. Another approach I propose is to reflect on our significant life experiences. By examining both the positive and negative moments, including achievements, challenges, and turning points, we can gain valuable insight into what truly resonates with us. I encourage listeners to focus on those peak moments in their lives when they felt the happiest, most fulfilled, and proud of themselves.Furthermore, I introduce the idea of utilizing values assessment tools and questionnaires to help narrow down our core values. These resources can provide a structured framework to explore and validate our beliefs. Ultimately, the goal is to compile a list of five to ten core values that truly reflect who we are and how we want to show up in the world.Lastly, I mention the importance of considering role models who align with our desired values. By choosing individuals who embody the values we aspire to, we can gain inspiration and guidance on how to cultivate these qualities in our own lives. I believe that identifying our core values is a crucial step towards living a more purposeful and authentic life, and I provide listeners with practical tips and strategies to embark on this self-discovery journey.

Ep 208Pocket More Profits: Creative Ways to Make Personal Expenses Tax Deductible, Legally

In this episode, we're going to be talking about my recent trip to Ohio and how it allowed me to combine both personal and professional pursuits. I had the incredible opportunity to visit some friends in Ohio and provide relationship coaching. This was something I was really passionate about, so when one of my friends asked me to share my knowledge with their small church group, I eagerly agreed. I'm incredibly excited about this opportunity and I know it's going to be a lot of fun.But that's not all! Another friend of mine in Ohio also happens to be someone I do marketing work for. While our friendship existed prior, the marketing aspect is relatively new. So, this trip is not only a chance for me to spend time with them, but also to work on some marketing projects together. Being self-employed, I feel incredibly grateful for the flexibility that allows me to combine work and personal trips like this.During this episode, I want to encourage you to think about how you can make the most of your vacations, visits to friends, and other events by turning them into business expenses and deducting them from your taxes. Now, I want to make it clear that I'm not offering legal advice as I'm not a tax attorney or CPA. It's always important to consult with a tax professional for guidance. However, if you need a referral, I'd be more than happy to connect you with someone I trust. The goal here is to maximize your deductibles legally, which ultimately means keeping more money in your pocket and preventing it from going to questionable entities at home or abroad. We should always take advantage of every opportunity to keep more money for ourselves. So, let's focus on doing good work and making smart financial decisions.

Ep 207Perpetual Life and Work Success

In this episode, we delve into a captivating community known as 48 Days Eagles, which centers around the transformative work of life and career coach, Dan Miller. This dynamic community is built upon the premise that individuals can discover or create work they truly love in just 48 days or less. Aptly named 48 Days Eagles, the community symbolizes the notion of soaring to new heights, much like the majestic bird itself.Throughout our discussion, we dive into the fundamental concept of ikigai. Picture it as a series of three interconnected circles, representing an ongoing journey towards personal growth. Although I stumble during my attempt to explain this concept, the core message remains clear - ikigai is a gradual, step-by-step process that propels us towards an improved life. The initial step entails embracing God's unwavering love and acknowledging our Creator. From there, we transcend to sharing this love with others and nurturing authentic, trusted relationships. As we embark upon this path, exploring our curiosity becomes paramount. By engaging our innate sense of wonder, we uncover our passions, define our purpose, and cultivate our unique talents. With these foundational elements in place, we then progress to crafting our offers to the world, utilizing our skills and passions to make a meaningful impact. And as the fruits of our labor begin to materialize, we bask in the joyous rewards, both tangible and intangible, that derive from doing work we truly love.Yet, this journey is far from linear. Rather, it is circular, for at each level of achievement, we return to accept God's love once more. This cyclical approach ensures a continual strengthening of our faithfulness, as we consistently strive to fulfill our purpose and experience the undying love bestowed upon us.As I delve into the intricacies of this multifaceted concept, I cannot help but find profound inspiration within it. It illuminates the path to creating a life and work that rekindles our soul and kindles our passion. Ultimately, it compels us to pursue excellence, find fulfillment, and embrace the transformative power of doing good work.Join us as we delve into this awe-inspiring journey of self-discovery and learn how to architect a life and career that transcends boundaries, unleashes our potential, and infuses our everyday existence with boundless joy and purpose.

Ep 206Prioritizing People: Nurturing Relationships Amidst the Digital Age

In this episode, we delve into a personal conversation about the impact of technology on relationships. I, or "we", had a heartfelt discussion centered around how technology has interfered with my relationship with my wife. It became evident that I was at fault for not prioritizing communication and being fully present in our interactions. My wife, being more talkative and relationship-focused, emphasized the importance of connecting and building relationships. While it doesn't come naturally to me, I acknowledged the significance of prioritizing these aspects and making a conscious effort to improve. We discussed how, even after years of marriage, it is essential to keep each other updated on our lives and careers as people grow and change. Without effective communication, assumptions can arise, ultimately leading to a breakdown in the relationship. This realization forced me to face the fact that technology was controlling me, rather than vice versa. It was an uncomfortable realization, but it motivated me to challenge myself and evaluate the amount of screen time and its impact on my relationships. I encourage the listeners to do the same - to carve out device-free moments each day, even if it feels uncomfortable initially. The result is a greater ability to engage in meaningful conversations and maintain strong connections. I personally realized the need to prioritize relationships over technology and career aspirations, as jobs and businesses will always be present, while relationships are delicate and require proper care. Therefore, it is crucial to invest time and effort into fostering and maintaining these bonds. So, let's strive to do good work while prioritizing the people in our lives.

Ep 204Discipline VS Motivation

In this episode, we explore the power of motivation and discipline in achieving our goals. We all have different motivations that drive us to take action, whether it's the desire to achieve a specific goal or the fear of negative consequences. Personally, I find motivation in wanting to finish my house and avoiding the risk of losing it due to my mortgage.I believe it's important to constantly ask ourselves what our motivation is, to dig deep and find that burning desire that propels us forward. But here's the thing, motivation can be fickle. Some days, it's easy to find that fire within us, while other days, it seems to be nowhere in sight. That's when discipline comes into play.Discipline is the backbone that keeps us going when motivation fails us. It's the ability to stick to our routines and commitments, even when we don't feel like it. I won't lie, I struggle with discipline myself. It's not always easy to get up early, hit the gym, or sit down and work on a project when Netflix is calling our name. But discipline is what separates the dreamers from the achievers. If we want to be successful and live a better life, we need to build our discipline muscle. We need to show up every day, put in the work, and stay committed to our goals. It's not always glamorous or exciting, but it's necessary. And the more we practice discipline, the easier it becomes. So, my plea to you is this: do good work. Motivation may come and go, but discipline is what will carry you through. Push through the resistance, build your discipline muscle, and watch as your dreams become a reality. Let's make today count and create a better tomorrow.

Ep 20213 Steps to Reach Your Next Level

In this episode, we delve into the process of creating the life we want to live. We begin by asking ourselves a series of thought-provoking questions, starting with what we want in our lives that we currently don't have. Taking five to ten minutes to reflect on this question allows us to pinpoint what is missing and identify our desires.Next, we examine the aspects of our lives that we have but don't want. By identifying these conflicting elements, we gain a clearer understanding of what is standing in the way of our aspirations.Considering the location of our life is also crucial. We assess if our current surroundings align with our goals and aspirations or if a change of scenery is necessary. We then shift our focus to our desired side hustle or small business and evaluate how it fits into our overall plans. This exploration helps us understand the relationship between our entrepreneurial aspirations and our desired life.To further explore our goals, we move on to developing "how can I" questions. By asking ourselves how we can acquire what we desire, we can assess potential paths to achieve our goals. We also evaluate if these goals genuinely align with our mission and desires.Developing a financial plan is essential to turn our aspirations into reality. We examine if our current finances can support our goals or if we need to explore additional income avenues.Expressing gratitude for what we already have is an important practice. We take a moment to list the things we are thankful for in our lives, recognizing the blessings we often overlook. To navigate our lives more effectively, we analyze our sphere of control, influence, and concern. Rather than solely operating within our sphere of control or concern, we focus on the intersection of these three areas, maximizing our impact. It can be beneficial to tune out the noise of the news and the opinions of others that may lead to unnecessary distractions. Instead, we consider advice and criticism only from those whom we trust and would seek guidance from ourselves.Transforming our "how can I" questions into action-oriented statements is a key step in this process. We select one task related to our desired goals and commit to taking action on it today, moving us closer to our aspirations. We remind ourselves that we deserve the life we desire but acknowledge that it requires hard work and effort to achieve. Believing in ourselves and our abilities is crucial as we put in the necessary work to transform our dreams into reality. It's important to seek inspiration from those who have achieved what we desire. Finding individuals who are willing to mentor us and learning from their experiences can provide valuable guidance along the way.We regularly review our lists and plans, making updates as needed, until we have achieved the life we want. This practice helps us stay on track, making adjustments whenever necessary.Ultimately, action is the key ingredient to pursue the life we envision. Rather than waiting for opportunities to come to us, we take an active role in seeking them out. We create a structure and dedicate time each day to work towards our goals, taking action every single day.Through hard work, dedication, and a belief in ourselves, we can manifest the life we desire. It's up to us to put in the effort and contribute meaningful work to make our dreams a reality.

Ep 201Starting a Purposeful Business

In this episode, we explore the concept of "Ikigai" and how it can help guide individuals in finding their purpose when starting a side hustle or small business. We discuss the importance of considering strengths, interests, and passions when embarking on entrepreneurial ventures. By identifying the things that bring us joy and fulfillment, such as hobbies like fishing or woodworking, we can discover potential opportunities that align with our passions. However, it's not only about what we love doing; we must also assess our skills and abilities. For instance, if someone excels in carpentry, they could provide services like building fences or outdoor living spaces. By recognizing our talents, we can tap into areas where we have a competitive advantage. Moreover, it's crucial to understand what the world needs. By identifying the gaps and demands in the market, we can find opportunities to fulfill those needs. It's important to strike a balance between what we are good at, what we enjoy doing, and what the world requires. The ideal intersection of these aspects lies at the core of our mission, which is our "Ikigai."Discovering our "why" and pursuing a life that serves others and brings fulfillment is key. By intentionally seeking out opportunities that align with our interests, strengths, and the world's needs, we have the potential to create a meaningful and fulfilling life. Embracing our "Ikigai" can guide us on this journey, helping us find purpose and success in our side hustles or small businesses.

Ep 200Finding Purpose: Navigating the Road to a Fulfilling Life

In this episode, we explore the concept of purpose and how it is not always about grand missions or monumental tasks. Instead, I believe that purpose is about using our unique gifts, talents, skills, abilities, and personality to positively impact others while enjoying our own lives. By doing work we love and making a difference for others, we can find true fulfillment.Purpose is not just about the end results or the destination, but about shaping the outcomes of our lives and the lives of others. It requires an investment of time and effort. Our passions and values serve as our compass, guiding us towards what truly matters to us. Purpose is a journey filled with experiences, growth, and self-reflection that influences every aspect of our lives. To discover our purpose, we need to engage in self-reflection. Ep 199Breaking Free from Default: Intentionally Designing Your Best Year in 2024

Join me on Dec 17 to design 2024 as your best year yet!Hey guys, welcome back! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving break. I personally took a couple of days off, so there were no podcasts on Thursday and Friday. But don't worry, we'll be catching up over the next few weeks to make sure we end the year on the right note. Now, let's talk about the number one thing you can do to make 2024 better than 2023. I ask this question because there are always things left unfinished at the end of the year. We set big goals that we don't even come close to achieving. Like last year, I bought a harmonica and promised myself I would practice for an hour a week. But to be honest, I didn't stick to it. I may have practiced here and there, but by mid-February, I had given up on it. It's easy to let our goals fall by the wayside. So why do we set these goals in the first place? It's because we want to achieve something. We want to live life on our own terms. But too often, we let life happen by default and get in the way of truly mastering it.That's why I'm inviting you to join me on December 17th for a goal-setting session. From 3 to 5 p.m. Central Time, we'll come together to intentionally create the best year yet in 2024. It'll be a casual and interactive session, like hanging out with friends. Feel free to bring a drink if you want, and if I can convince my wife, maybe we'll sit by the fire. I'll drop a link in the show notes where you can join the Zoom room for the session.I believe that every year should be our best year yet. This year, despite the stress, has been one of my best years yet because my family and I moved into a house after living in a camper for seven years. It's been a game-changer for us, and it reminded me of how much better things can get.So, what can you do in 2024 to make your life even better? How can you create a change that makes you want to let go of old habits or improve other areas of your life? Let's think about that together. I can't wait to see you on December 17th and hear about how amazing your 2024 is going to be. Keep up the good work!

Ep 198How to Build Trust With Your Clients

Product of the day: LEOPO 12 inch Shelf Bracket for DIY Floating Shelf, 1/5 inch Thick Heavy Duty Bracket, 6 Pack, 11.25” x 6” x 1.5” (affiliate link)In today's episode, we dive into the topic of building trust in business. Trust is crucial for successful client relationships, and it requires effort from both parties involved. As a business owner myself, I've recognized the importance of trust and have implemented various strategies to foster it.One way I establish trust in my construction business is by requiring a deposit before starting a job. This not only provides financial security for me but also demonstrates to clients that I am committed to their project. However, I understand that some clients may be hesitant to provide a deposit upfront. To accommodate their concerns, I offer alternative options, such as requesting a payment when I arrive with the necessary materials. This flexibility helps build trust by showing that I am willing to work with clients to find a mutually beneficial arrangement.Building trust also involves aspects of authenticity, transparency, and open communication. I believe in being genuine and honest with my clients, ensuring they understand the process, timeline, and expectations. This open dialogue creates a foundation of trust and allows clients to feel more comfortable working with me. Additionally, it's crucial to tailor communication to each client's specific needs. Understanding their individual requirements and addressing them directly helps foster trust and demonstrates my commitment to their project.Another important aspect of building trust is demonstrating competence. I showcase my skills and expertise through past projects, social media presence, and client reviews. By providing evidence of my capabilities, I am able to instill confidence in potential clients and establish myself as a trustworthy professional. Furthermore, respecting clients' boundaries is crucial. This includes being punctual for appointments and ensuring that their time is valued. Additionally, creating an inviting environment that puts clients at ease contributes to building trust and fostering positive relationships. In addition to these efforts, consistently providing value and empowering clients to make their own decisions are crucial to building trust. I strive to go above and beyond for my clients, delivering exceptional results and exceeding their expectations. Furthermore, I believe in empowering clients by providing them with the necessary information and options to make informed decisions. By giving them the freedom to choose, it demonstrates trust in their judgment and builds a collaborative relationship.By implementing these strategies, I have been able to build trust with my clients, ultimately enhancing their experience and satisfaction. Trust is the cornerstone of any successful business relationship, and by prioritizing its establishment, we can create a solid foundation for long-term success.

Ep 197Designing Your Best Year: Using SMART Goals to Shape Your Future

In this episode, we discuss the importance of setting SMART goals as we approach the holiday season and the start of a new year. By consciously designing our lives and setting specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals, we can avoid repeating the same year over and over again without making progress or achieving our goals. When it comes to setting goals, being specific about what we want to accomplish is essential. Breaking down our goals into smaller milestones allows for better tracking of progress and the ability to adjust our strategies if necessary. Additionally, having quantifiable metrics to measure our progress is crucial to track success and stay motivated. While it's important to aim high, our goals should also be realistic and attainable. We need to consider the resources and abilities we have available to us and ensure that our goals align with our broader objectives and life plan. By setting goals that are relevant to our overall vision, we can stay focused and motivated on the path towards success.Creating deadlines for our goals is essential in creating a sense of urgency and avoiding procrastination. Establishing a timeline, even if the goals are spread throughout the year and not all due by the end of the year, helps us stay accountable and motivated to take action.Ultimately, setting SMART goals and committing ourselves to do good work allows us to make progress, achieve new things, and create a positive impact in our lives and the lives of others. As we enter the holiday season and look towards the new year, let's take the time to reflect on our goals and ensure they are SMART goals that will lead us towards success and fulfillment.

Ep 196The True Cost of Opportunity

In this episode, we explore the dynamics of virtual events and the mixed reactions from attendees. While many attendees are enthusiastic about the content and strategies offered, they often struggle with the implementation process. Despite wanting to learn and achieve their goals, many individuals hesitate to seek help or invest in assistance. However, it's important to recognize that virtual events exist to provide solutions to those seeking guidance. These events offer a path to success, whether it's financial stability or business growth, and it's up to the attendees to decide if they want to embark on the journey alone or with support. Some may view these events as deceptive, but in reality, they are showcasing what's possible and offering a chance at generational wealth and freedom. The event discussed in this episode focuses on coaching business development, addressing the common challenge of attracting clients despite having the necessary skills and knowledge. When faced with the financial investment required to join these programs, many individuals only see the cost and believe they cannot afford it. However, it's crucial to consider the potential income that can be generated through the business. By reframing the perspective, not joining the program could mean missing out on significant opportunities and potential earnings.Taking action can be intimidating, often due to fear of failure or self-doubt. This is where the community aspect of these programs becomes invaluable. By providing accountability, support, and motivation, the community helps individuals overcome challenges and persist when they may be tempted to give up. It's essential to push forward, take risks, and put in the necessary work to achieve the desired outcome.Overall, virtual events serve as a platform to guide attendees toward their goals and offer assistance along the way. By embracing the opportunity for growth, seeking support, and prioritizing long-term financial stability, individuals can overcome obstacles and achieve success.

Ep 195Shifting Focus: Scaling Back & Moving Forward

In this episode, I announce a significant change in our business direction. I have decided to scale back my construction business, reducing it to only 10-25% of its previous capacity. Although I'm no longer taking on new clients, I will still be serving my current clients and completing their ongoing projects. Ep 194Canva: Ultimate Creative Tool

Sign up for Canva. In today's episode, we will be discussing a technology that has become an essential part of my daily workflow - Canva. Canva is a graphic design app that has been around for quite some time, and I have found it to be the best option out there. While there are other alternatives available, I always find myself coming back to Canva because of its superior features and functionality. It can be accessed through your desktop or mobile app for Apple and Android users, and there is a free version available. However, I personally opt for the paid version, which costs $120 per year when paid annually. I believe it is worth the investment because of the multitude of possibilities it offers. With Canva, you can create a wide range of visual design documents and videos. The app provides pre-made templates specifically tailored for various social media platforms. This means that you can effortlessly design YouTube thumbnails, Instagram reels, Facebook covers, and more. The templates are already correctly sized, saving you time and ensuring efficiency. But Canva doesn't stop at social media graphics. Its capabilities extend to documents, whiteboards, presentations, websites, infographics, photo collages, graphs, book covers, mind maps, virtual backgrounds for Zoom, calendars, planners, invoices, and so much more. In other words, it is an incredibly versatile and comprehensive tool that allows you to bring your ideas to life.I highly recommend giving Canva a try if you haven't already. It is an amazing app that enables you to produce exceptional work. Ep 191Building for Demand: Sell First, Create Later for Success

In this episode, we discuss the importance of considering the audience and demand for our projects before diving into creating them. We share a personal experience of moving into a house that is not quite finished yet, highlighting the need to take a different approach to life projects. Instead of spending months or years creating something without knowing if it will sell, we suggest selling our idea or product first, even before it's fully completed. By finding people who are interested in what we're creating and selling it to them, we can gauge the demand and avoid wasting time and resources on something that won't sell. This strategy allows us to do good work and find success by putting our creations out there and finding those who want what we have to offer. So, let's embrace this approach and sell our ideas before investing too much time into their creation.

Ep 190Adapt Like Water

In this episode, we dive into the topic of overcoming overwhelm and staying focused amidst the challenges life throws our way. I share a personal experience of dealing with my wife's illness, which disrupted my plans and left me feeling exhausted. However, I made a conscious decision to not let it paralyze me. Instead, I embraced the mindset of being adaptable, like water, and focused on taking the next step and then the next one. The key, I emphasize, is to avoid getting overwhelmed by looking too far ahead and instead, just concentrate on doing the next right thing. I discuss the importance of staying committed to our goals and not getting easily swayed by distractions that come our way. Ultimately, I want to remind our listeners that no matter how daunting the situation, we all possess the resilience and capability to handle it. By continuously moving in the direction we want to go, and by consistently doing the next right thing, we can navigate through any challenge that comes our way. So let's stay focused, minimize distractions, and keep doing good work.

Ep 189The best apps for managing your files and documents

Affiliate links:ProtonSkiffGoogleIn today's episode, we are going to discuss some essential applications that play a crucial role in my day-to-day workflow. First on the list is the Google suite of apps. Gmail, in particular, is a fantastic email service that offers excellent spam protection. However, occasionally, it does filter non-spam emails incorrectly. Nevertheless, what truly stands out for me in the Google suite is Google Drive. This feature provides online storage on Google's servers and includes applications such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, and a presentation app. The best part is that most of these apps are accessible for free, and you get a generous 17 gigabytes of free storage. The sharing feature is also phenomenal, making it incredibly easy for me to share files and folders with others. However, it is important to note that by using Google products, you do surrender some of your data, as they mine user data for targeted advertising. For those who prioritize privacy, I highly recommend looking into Proton and Skiff. Both of these alternatives offer email services, online storage (often referred to as their drive), and a documents feature. What sets these services apart is their commitment to security and privacy. They ensure that only you have access to your data and do not use it for advertising purposes. While these options may not be as user-friendly as Google, they provide invaluable peace of mind when it comes to protecting your privacy. I have included the links for Proton and Skiff, so you can explore these options further. Ultimately, I hope you find an application that aligns with your needs. Keep up the good work, and until next time!

Ep 188Investigative Selling

In this episode, I want to emphasize the importance of connecting with people on a deeper level. As business professionals, it is our responsibility to understand our clients, their desires, and how we can best serve them. We play the role of detectives, uncovering details about our clients that they may not readily share. It's about building a connection that goes beyond surface-level interactions, even if we aren't aiming for lifelong friendships. To give you a better understanding of who I am, I'd like to share five things about myself that you may not know. These insights will provide a glimpse into my personality, even if you consider yourself a close friend.Firstly, I am a huge fan of Georgia Bulldogs football. I can't help but get absorbed in their games and have been beyond thrilled with their recent successes. Being a fan allows me to embrace a sense of camaraderie and passion that extends beyond my professional life.Secondly, I have an insatiable thirst for knowledge. I am constantly reading, listening to podcasts, and seeking to expand my understanding of the world. However, I tend to move on from one interest to another once my curiosity is satisfied, without fully mastering a particular subject. On the topic of hobbies, woodworking brings me immense joy. Although I haven't achieved mastery in this craft just yet, the process of building small treasure chests and furniture brings me a sense of fulfillment and creativity.Next, I have an extensive collection of sports cards, with a particular focus on Atlanta Braves baseball cards from the 90s. This collection not only holds sentimental value for me but also gives me a deeper appreciation for the history and nostalgia associated with baseball.Lastly, despite having a plethora of projects and tasks at hand, I must admit that I can also be quite lazy. I cherish those moments of doing nothing, whether it's watching a movie or simply taking time to think and observe. In fact, I strive to create a lifestyle that allows me dedicated lazy time, where I can focus on reading, reflecting, and continuing my learning journey. These five facts about me highlight the significance of getting to know people on a profound level. By honing our detective skills, asking insightful questions, and truly understanding our clients, we can establish stronger relationships and provide exceptional service. It's about going beyond what meets the eye and embracing the depth of human connections.

Ep 187Perspectives Matter: Seeing Beyond our Personal Biases for Deeper Understanding

In this episode, we delve into a thought-provoking story about the six blind men and the elephant. The blind men, each touching a different part of the elephant, form their own opinions about what the elephant is like based on their limited perspective. This tale serves as a powerful reminder of the tendency we all have to view situations through our own narrow lens, often without considering the perspectives and experiences of others.I stress the importance of giving grace to others when we disagree with their decisions. It's crucial to recognize that each individual possesses unique insights and experiences that may differ from our own. While it can be challenging to see things from someone else's point of view, we should make a concentrated effort to understand them before passing judgment.Throughout the conversation, I emphasize the significance of doing good work and approaching situations with empathy and understanding. By recognizing the limitations of our own perspective and embracing the diversity of viewpoints around us, we can foster a more inclusive and compassionate society. So, let's strive to be open-minded, listen attentively, and learn from the experiences of others.
