Coach Harvey Hyde gives his thoughts on USC's expanded personnel staff including new general manager Chad Bowden
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together giving their thoughts on the major moves the USC athletic department has been making with the coaching and personnel staffs. Over the past two seasons the Trojans have struggled to a 13-11 record so with these staff moves they hope is that head coach Lincoln Riley has all the help he needs to build a championship roster that can be coached up to make a run at the College Football Playoffs. The guys start off talking about the personnel side, with USC hiring away Notre Dame general manager Chad Bowden to come to Troy in the same role. Coach Hyde wants to know what his job description will entail and how much say he has over the roster working with Riley. Bowden also has some help coming with Zaire Turner hired as the new assistant AD of recruiting Operations and Dre Brown as the executive director of scouting and personnel. On the coaching staff side Coach Hyde gives his thoughts on USC keeping and extending defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn, bringing in NFL veteran Rob Ryan as the assistant head coach for defense and linebackers coach, Chad Savage as tight ends and inside receivers coach and Trovon Reed as the new cornerbacks coach. The guys talk about how the new staff members will help the Trojans on the recruiting trail, especially in Southern California where USC has fallen short the past couple of classes. USC Triple-Double: Alijah Arenas commits, Courtney Jaco talks women’s hoops' winning streak
The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the latest USC hoops action as the Trojan men lose a rivalry game but pick up a five-star commit with some name cache while the Women of Troy continue to win even when short handed. USC's men's program continues to rise even after suffering a loss to UCLA where free throws and a big dagger three-pointer hampered a Trojans' comeback attempt. Eric Musselman got his first big recruiting win at USC as five-star shooting guard Alijah Arenas, the son of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, chose the Trojans over his father's alma mater, Arizona. The No. 4 USC women's basketball team is 19-1 on the season and remains perfect in Big Ten play after pulling away from Minnesota in the fourth quarter to take an 82-69 victory despite an awful first half from JuJu Watkins that she turned around into a 20-point double-double. USC assistant coach and alum Courtney Jaco joins the show for the first time this season to chat about the Women of Troy's progression, including their improved three-point shooting recently. Jaco also discusses Watkins breaking the record for most three-pointers in one game that Jaco had previously held and the work Watkins has put in to increase her range this offseason. She also talks about what the Trojans are getting in five-star signee and McDonald's All-American Jazzy Davidson. Shotgun and Connor look at where both Trojan teams stand and then look forward at the upcoming matchups for the men and women. The men have a big opportunity Saturday as they welcome Tom Izzo and No. 7 Michigan State to the Galen Center for the first time before heading to Northwestern. The USC women hit the road, traveling to Iowa where the Hawkeyes will retire Caitlin Clark's number before swinging over to Wisconsin. The Dedeaux Download podcast, part of the Peristyle Podcast family of shows, is back with Shotgun Spratling and Jack Smith returning with another episode in our four-part season preview, leading up to the start of the 2025 USC baseball season. In part two of the season preview series, Prep Baseball vice president of scouting Shooter Hunt joins the show to break down USC's freshman class and what kind of impact the first-year Trojans could have this season. He also discusses the reputation of the USC coaching staff on the recruiting trail and why the Trojans have struggled to consistently lock up big-name talent over the last 15-20 years under previous coaching regimes. Hunt also talks about the impact NIL is having on the college baseball game and the potential impact other changes that could be coming to the sport could have. After a break, USC senior right-handed pitcher Caden Aoki then joins the Dedeaux Download to chat about the mentality the team has this season after falling just short of making the NCAA tournament each of the last two years. Aoki also discusses his role as a veteran and leader on the team this year and where he's seen the team make strides this offseason. He gives his picks for freshmen pitchers to watch out for and which returners he's seen make the biggest jumps from last year to now. Trojans make a major move hiring GM Chad Bowden away from rival Notre Dame
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about how the major power move made by athletic director Jen Cohen and head coach Lincoln Riley, hiring away Chad Bowden from Notre Dame to take over as the Trojans new general manager. The Trojans have been looking to hire a GM for a while and with the role being so unique and new, there were certainly challenges to getting the right person to help build and maintain an elite college football roster. Bowden has shown he knows what it takes to win, helping to assemble a Fighting Irish squad that made a run to the national championship and beating an impressive list of programs to get there. The guys talk about what an impressive hire this is for USC and what sort of impact they think it will make on the Trojans as they head into the 2025 season trying to bounce back after a disappointing first campaign in the Big Ten. They also talk about new linebackers coach Rob Ryan out on the recruiting trail for USC, Pete Carroll getting the Raiders head coaching job, Penn State hiring DC Jim Knowles away from Ohio State and how some of the players that transferred out of USC fared last season. The No. 4 USC women's basketball team is 18-1 on the season and remains perfect in Big Ten play after shaking off a pair of sluggish starts, using a 12-0 run in the fourth quarter to win 73-66 at Indiana and then a whopping 41-4 run that featured 31 consecutive points at Purdue to overcome an early 14-5 deficit. Senior guard Talia von Oelhoffen joins the show for the first time to chat about the Women of Troy's progression this season and how she feels like she's fitting in after transferring from Oregon State. Dedeaux Download: USC baseball 2025 season preview + HC Andy Stankiewicz joins to discuss progression of team, stadium
The Dedeaux Download podcast, part of the Peristyle Podcast family of shows, returns after a lengthy hiatus as the college baseball season approaches. Shotgun Spratling and Jack Smith are back to break down the latest news and developments around the USC baseball program, including the continued rebuild of Dedeaux Field and the move to the Big Ten Conference, which means the Trojan road warriors will be playing even farther from home this season. The podcasting duo look at the different angles of a second season on the road and the move to the Big Ten Conference, where the Trojans have been picked anywhere from fourth to 11th in an unofficial poll of other Big Ten coaches. They also look at what USC needs to do to get over the hump to make a regional after being oh so close in each of the first two seasons under head coach Andy Stankiewicz. Shotgun and Jack also take a look back to the 2024 season to assess what went well, where the Trojans are set up for success in 2025 and where they'll have to make improvements with a roster that saw a lot of turnover. USC head coach Andy Stankiewicz then joins the Dedeaux Download to talk about another season of unique challenges for the Trojans, but one that should come with a little more familiarity than last season when there were adjustments routinely being made on the fly as USC played at Great Park in Orange County and LMU's Page Stadium. Stankiewicz talks about how the program has to keep progressing forward rather than taking a step back, no matter what challenges they face. He also discusses building a non-conference schedule, the challenges the Big Ten move will present and the hire of experienced pitching coach Sean Allen, who will give the Trojans a little more familiarity when they enter Big Ten play and have to travel east to Michigan, Indiana, Penn State and Minnesota. USC solidifies its defensive staff by extending D'Anton Lynn and hiring Rob Ryan
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about how the USC Trojan defensive staff has come together, with defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn sticking around and getting an extension after Penn State made a strong run at him and the hiring of new linebackers coach Rob Ryan, the longtime NFL defensive coordinator. With so many defensive improvements made in 2024, it was extremely important for head coach Lincoln Riley to keep that side of the ball going in the right direction. Losing Lynn, especially to a conference rival, would have been a major setback to the Trojans defensive revival. The guys also give their thoughts on the Ryan hire and how well they think he can replace Matt Entz, who moved on to become the head coach of Fresno State. USC did lose defensive assistant Taylor Mays to Washington and they discuss the significance of that loss. The portal activity has slowed down significantly with the latest news being defensive back DeCarlos Nicholson getting an extra year of eligibility, entering the portal and then withdrawing his name from the poral. They also discuss how the USC incoming freshmen performed at the Polynesian Bowl including co-offensive MVP Husan Longstreet and the potential issue on the NIL front where Title IX could require male and female athletes to be compensated similarly, which could take away a significant amount of revenue share resources earmarked for football players. USC Triple-Double: Desmond Claude, Willnett Crockett talk big wins for USC men's and women's hoops
The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the men's two game Big Ten win streak and the women's 95-73 victory over Penn State. After discussing the last week in game action, USC women's basketball assistant coach Willnett Crockett joined the hosts to share more about her journey from Narbonne High School to UConn as a player. Crockett also offered her thoughts on what it's like to work with USC's post players and how special it is for her to coach a local program with such high expectations. On the men's side, the Trojans recorded the program's first ranked road win since 2010 when they took down Illinois 82-72 last Saturday. Desmond Claude exploded for 31 points to clinch the victory. The Trojans led 70-60 with 5:18 to play after a Claude layup, and USC hung on despite Illinois deploying a relentless press. Claude was the hero, but Wesley Yates III and Rashaun Agee were catalysts for the upset victory too. Yates scored 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting to go along with six rebounds and two beautiful assists. Agee scored 13 points, which included making 3-of-5 triples, and he grabbed eight rebounds, which tied for the team high. After the Crocket interview, Claude discussed his Illinois performance on the show, and he also broke down his role in USC's 99-89 win over Iowa from Tuesday night. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino are back behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys return to talk about the latest developments for USC in the transfer portal, including the loss of stalwart offensive lineman Emmanuel Pregnon along with replacements on the offensive line the Trojans have picked up after Pregnon's departure and the addition of Boise State receiver Prince Strachan. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Chris and Shotgun sending their thoughts and condolences along to everyone dealing with struggles, both minuscule and catastrophic, stemming from the fires that have ravaged Los Angeles in the last week. Things get personal as Shotgun also discusses his first trip to the Xfinity Center on the University of Maryland campus where the Women of Troy took down the Terps in a top 10 battle. Breaking down the Trojans roster updates, coaching staff moves and GM search
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio to share their thoughts on how this Trojan football team has updated its roster and coaching staff in the early stages of preparation for the 2025 season. The big surprise came following USC's Vegas Bowl victory over Texas A&M, with offensive lineman Emmanuel Pregnon entering the NCAA Transfer Portal. Pregnon had previously committed to the Senior Bowl before changing his mind and deciding to come back to play for the Trojans again. But at the last minute, as the portal closed for USC players 6 days after the bowl game, Pregnon changed his mind once again and jumped in the portal. The Trojans did get some help on the offensive line with Syracuse interior offensive lineman J'Onre Reed picking USC as his landing spot. The 6-foot-3, 316 pounder that likes to be known as 'Big General,' started 25 games at center over the last two years for the Orange. With Zach Hanson moving from tight ends coach to offensive line coach, head coach Lincoln Riley brought in Chad Savage from Colorado State to coach the tight ends and outside receivers. Savage was known for his recruiting with the Rams, rated the top recruiter in the Mountain West Conference by 247Sports over his three seasons. The guys also talk about USC's continued plans to hire a general manager to help Riley manage this roster in this crazy world of NIL, revenue sharing and of course the NCAA Transfer Portal. The No. 4 USC women's basketball team is 15-1 on the season and remains perfect in Big Ten after getting a hard-fought win when it seemed like everything was against them. Stars JuJu Watkins and Kiki Iriafen each scored 21 points, but it was the collective efforts of 'The Others' that led the Trojans to the victory with three freshmen stepping up at various times and senior Rayah Marshall closing out the game with elite defense. Shotgun and Connor look at all aspects of the top 10 victory, briefly discuss the Trojans' 50-point win at Rutgers and look at the USC men's back-to-back losses to Michigan and Indiana that played out in similar fashions with a short-handed Trojan squad fading down the stretch. The Helium Boys return to break down the Trojans' thrilling come-from-behind, last-second 35-31 victory over Texas A&M in the Las Vegas Bowl and discuss the perpetual redesign of the Trojans' roster for the 2025 season. Ja'Kobi Lane's wild string of six consecutive receptions going for touchdowns is included as are fellow receivers Makai Lemon and Ford. USC's young offensive line gets its kudos as well. On the flip side, Shotgun and Chris discuss another up-and-down performance by quarterback Jayden Maiava as well as the confidence of and surrounding Maiava. Then Shotgun goes on a rant about Lincoln Riley's Renaissance Man attempts that have led him to be mediocre in areas he previously thrived. Some younger players that didn't get opportunities in the bowl game and the chance in receiver rotations are also featured. A discussion about the NCAA transfer portal and the impact of both the losses and acquisitions the Trojans have made since the portal opened leads to some puzzled worries from the podcast collaborators. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing the transfer portal as well as USC's searches for a linebacker coach and general manager. There are also questions about offseason momentum, offensive creativity and involvement of the tight end position. Branch Brothers to the portal and OL coach/OC Josh Henson leaves for Purdue
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about the latest roster and coaching staff movement with the NCAA Transfer Portal opening last week and player movement happening at record rates. The biggest portal news for USC happened on Tuesday with the Branch Brothers announcing they would be the latest Trojans to transfer. Wide receiver Zachariah Branch and safety Zion Branch both were slated to play major roles on this team in 2025, but neither will be wearing Cardinal and Gold going forward after they put their names in the NCAA Transfer Portal. With Zachariah's departure, all four five-star players recruited by Lincoln Riley from the 2022 and 2023 classes have now left the program: Branch, cornerback Domani Jackson, wide receiver Duce Robinson and quarterback Malachi Nelson. USC will also be on the market to hire a new offensive line coach and offensive coordinator with Josh Henson departing to join Barry Odom at Purdue. Henson will be the offensive coordinator for the Boilermakers but unlike his role at USC, he will be the primary play caller at Purdue. The guys talk about Riley's decision to hire from within, promoting tight ends coach Zach Hanson to be the Trojans new offensive line coach. They also discuss the other players that hit the portal and some of the candidates to fill the open linebacker coaching spot. CLICK HERE for 50% OFF an annual VIP membership to USCFootball.com! The podcasters then dive into the first two days of entrants into the NCAA transfer portal from USC with 12 players entering their names. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down the Trojans' deflating finish after pushing No. 5 Notre Dame in the Coliseum only to see the game slide through their hands in the final four minutes and the loss of fourth-year junior quarterback Miller Moss to the NCAA transfer portal. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Shotgun discussing the wildness of rivalry weekend and flag planting before Chris uses his 'Two-Minute Drill' to discuss the atmosphere in the Coliseum late in the fourth quarter when USC was driving to try to tie the game against at top five Irish club. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. Action at the 1-yard line is discussed as is quarterback Jayden Maiava's performance through the first 55 minutes. The Helium Boys both have Quinten Joyner and Makai Lemon on their stock up section while the tight ends receive some love after being on the field on nearly every snap. Shotgun also brings up doghouse Ja'Kobi Lane, who played like a dawg becoming the first USC receiver with three touchdown catches against Notre Dame since Dwayne Jarrett nearly 20 years ago despite only getting 22 offensive snaps. On the flip side, Shotgun and Chris discuss everything falling apart late in the game and how 'handling pressure' saw its stock slide while the Trojans struggled to finish strong. The unfortunate end to Woody Marks' reception streak is also brought up as is the performance of the offensive line. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing the impact of USC's wide receiver usage and the debate about signature wins. Coach Harvey Hyde gives his evaluation of the loss to Notre Dame and the disappointing 6-6 season for USC
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together giving their end of the season evaluation following the Trojans 49-35 loss to Notre Dame Saturday afternoon in the Coliseum. Coach Hyde is not happy with the way the season played out and really wants to see head coach Lincoln Riley do a detailed evaluation of his entire program this off-season, from his coaching philosophies to his staff, players and even how he interacts with boosters, the fans and the media. The guys start off talk about how this game played out, in similar fashion to the other losses the Trojans have endured in 2024. Coach Hyde wants to see more from this offense than throwing fade routes, a strategy that worked most of the game but then cost USC late with Notre Dame's game-sealing pick-6 in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Coach says Riley is reluctant to run the football, thinks this team shouldn't be throwing it 50 times a game and when they do pass, he wants to see more variety by taking advantage of the middle of the field, something Riley avoided for most of the game against the Irish. Coach also wants to see improved line play, a lesson can be learned just from watching how Notre Dame dominated the trenches Saturday. On his season evaluation, Coach Hyde agrees with what some of the former players like Matt Leinart, Matt Barkley and Jake Olson have said on social media, this team doesn't have an identity and they should be better than they are in year three of a rebuild. Coach Hyde also feels like if the team continues to lose close games, that means it is more than just the players, it is the coaching. You can have bad fortune and lose game or two late, but not half of the schedule with most of the losses coming against lesser talented teams. Coach Hyde also talks about quarterback Miller Moss entering the transfer portal on Monday and what he would have liked to have seen for a better sendoff for the lifelong Trojan. Tunnel Vision: Pair of pick-6s doom the Trojans comeback bid against No. 5 Notre Dame
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Jack Smith, Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") are back for the final recap show of USC football's regular season, a 49-35 defeat at the hands of No. 5 Notre Dame. After playing an even first half, the Fighting Irish looked to be in control late in the game before the Trojans, down 7, had a first and 10 at the ND 21 with under 4 minutes on the clock with a chance to tie the game. Then Cornerback Christian Gray squashed the Trojans comeback dreams, snatching Jayden Maiava's pass out of the air before returning it 99-yards the other way. The guys talk about how this game was a microcosm of the Trojans entire season, with chances at success that ultimately ended in failure. USC played well enough to win in all three phases of the game, but couldn't bring it all together and make the plays to finish the game, a common theme throughout the season. Triple-Double Podcast: USC basketball teams head to Acrisure Classic in Palm Springs
The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the latest action from the USC women's and men's basketball teams, including the Women of Troy being harassed from start to finish by a Notre Dame team that showed USC has a lot of work it needs to do to reach the big expectations and aspirations for this season. Shotgun and Connor also look back at USC men's 80-69 victory over Grambling State that was a struggle throughout until the Trojans closed strong, finishing the game on a 13-2 run to improve to 5-1. The podcasters look at where the men and women's programs stand after three weeks of action with plenty of concerns still needing to be addressed by both teams as they try to jell with so many new faces on both rosters. Shotgun and Connor also preview the upcoming weekend of action in the desert as both teams travel to Palm Springs to play in the Acrisure Classic tournament. The Women of Troy try to shake the blues and get back on track against a couple of blue teams in Seton Hall and Saint Louis. The Trojans bested Seton Hall last year around the same time of year when playing in a tournament in the Bahamas, but both of these teams have completely revamped their roster with nine new players. The men face their toughest non-conference matchups this season, taking on perennial West Coast Conference-contender Saint Mary's and either Arizona State or New Mexico, who are both off to strong starts this season. Trojans trying to finish strong with an upset victory over No. 5 Notre Dame
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio for a holiday week edition of the Peristyle Podcast that will also serve as our game preview Tunnel Vision show this week. USC is coming off its 19-13 win over UCLA in the Rose Bowl where the team had the flu. The victory was important for a number of reasons, the rivalry with the Bruins, getting back the Victory Bell and of course becoming bowl eligible. But the level of play wasn't great, with both teams looking like they were ready to give the game to the other side at any moment. The Trojans will need to play a much better brand of football this weekend to have a chance to take down the Fighting Irish in the Coliseum. Notre Dame has won 9 games in a row and are blowing teams out with regularity. The guys talk about this important matchup and what USC would need to do to get the upset win and knock the Irish out of the College Football Playoffs picture. The Helium Boys are back to break down the Trojans becoming bowl eligible after a come-from-behind 19-13 victory over UCLA at the Rose Bowl that pushes USC back above .500 at 6-5. They also look forward, giving their thoughts on another rivalry matchup as the Trojans take on No. 5 Notre Dame Saturday in the Coliseum The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Shotgun going stream of consciousness after Chris uses his 'Two-Minute Drill' to discuss the grind this season has been and offer a correction and apology for a mistake he made last year. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. Fourth-down stops are discussed after USC had three, including on each of the final two UCLA offensive drives. Makai Lemon and his dynamic efforts as a receiver, returner and even passer very obviously make the list as do the continued efforts of Trojan punter Eddie Czaplicki. Shotgun also brings up the major improvements in USC's tackling under the first-year defensive staff. On the flip side, the Trojans' saw issues in the red zone, having to settle for field goals three times after being inside the UCLA 5-yard line. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing Duce Robinson's usage and the possibility of Lincoln Riley relinquishing offensive coordinator duties. Coach Harvey Hyde on the Trojans victory over the Bruins in the Rose Bowl
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together discussing the late Saturday night clash in the Rose Bowl between crosstown rivals USC and UCLA. The stakes for this game weren't as high as both programs would have hoped, but a chance to play in the postseason, the Victory Bell and of course Los Angeles bragging rights were still on the line for the Trojans and the Bruins. Coach Hyde gives his thoughts on USC's 19-13 victory over UCLA, evaluating how quarterback Jayden Maiava performed and how the Trojan offense did overall against the Bruins defense. He also goes in-depth on the performance of D'Anton Lynn's defense, holding UCLA to just 13 points and denying all three 4th down conversion attempts for the Bruins. The now bowl eligible Trojans have one tough test remaining, a visit from No. 5 Notre Dame Saturday afternoon in the Coliseum. The guys talk about the opportunity for USC to match last year's regular season total of 7 wins and potentially knock the Fighting Irish out of the College Football Playoffs. Tunnel Vision: The Trojans secure the Victory Bell with a 19-13 win over UCLA
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Jack Smith and Ryan Abraham are back from a late night in the Rose Bowl where they witnessed USC's first ever Big Ten road victory, taking down crosstown rival UCLA 19-13. It wasn't the prettiest game in recent memory, but head coach Lincoln Riley and the team will take the conference win regardless. The Trojans are now 6-5 and bowl eligible with an opportunity to knock Notre Dame out of a playoff berth next week in the Coliseum. This was a far from perfect performance by the Trojans, only scoring one touchdown while struggling in the red zone and allowing over 100 yards rushing to a UCLA squad that struggled to run the football this season. But USC did shutout the Bruins in the 4th quarter and closed out the game on a high note, outscoring UCLA 10-0 in that final period. New quarterback Jayden Maiava didn't turn the ball over and give the Bruins easy scores like he did last week against Nebraska, despite having a flu outbreak on team throughout the week leading up to the game. The guys talk about some of the issues they had with this game including some of the play calling, specifically in the red zone where USC kept throwing low percentage fade routes from inside the 5-yard line instead of just handing the ball off to the offensive MVP Woody Marks (Of the 9 plays the Trojans ran inside the UCLA 5-yard line, Marks only got one touch). Despite having no turnovers and amazing starting field position of USC's own 42 yard line, the Trojans could only put up 19 points, easily the worst offensive performance of the season. Luckily the other side of the ball may have played its best game, picking up three sacks on Ethan Garbers and only allowing 13 points while ending the game forcing two straight four-and-outs. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to discuss some of the traditions missing from his coverage of practices leading up to Saturday's Crosstown Showdown and how Kyle Ford brought back some fire with his mentality about facing off against his former team. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. The way the ball comes off Maiava's hand and his velocity is discussed as well as an unprecedented streak of good fortune that was bestowed upon the Trojans against the Cornhuskers after having only bad luck for much of this season. Play calling and the run game headed by running back Woody Marks after his career-best performance also get a positive review as do defensive linemen Elijah Hughes and Kameryn Fountain along with others. On the flip side, the Trojans' saw issues with their health after an outbreak of flu cases cut through the locker room. The return and departure of Jacobe Covington as well as the limited playing time of Ja'Kobi Lane are also focused upon in the Stock Down portion. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing Anthony Lucas, Zachariah Branch and Lane. Tunnel Vision: Recapping USC's 28-20 win over Nebraska plus left tackle Elijah Paige joins the show
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham and Jack Smith are in studio recapping how the Trojans got an important 28-20 victory over Nebraska and the positive first start for UNLV transfer quarterback Jayden Maiava. After losing four of the last five games, the Trojans were able to get back on the right track and finished the game strong against the Cornhuskers. Now USC just needs one win over rival UCLA or Notre Dame to become bowl eligible and get an extra couple of weeks of practice to help prepare this team for next season. On the defensive side of the ball the Trojans really played well, allowing only 13 points to the Nebraska offense and only 10 points that were not the direct result of USC turnovers. Before the guys give their thoughts on the game, they welcome in the USC left tackle Elijah Paige who played one of his best games against Nebraska, helping Woody Marks run for 146 yards and allow Maiava to complete over 71% of his passes. The interview with Paige was conducted in conjunction with House of Victory, an alumni-backed nonprofit collective dedicated to providing a competitive edge in the NIL space for University of Southern California student-athletes. Coach Harvey Hyde on USC's much-needed win, the play of Jayden Maiava & huge QB flip
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together with the rare opportunity to talk about a big Trojan football victory, following USC's 28-20 win over Nebraska Saturday afternoon in the Coliseum. Both teams came into the game desperate to get a win, with the Huskers losing three-straight and the Trojans dropping four of the last five. The victory brings USC's record to 5-5 with a win over rival UCLA in the Rose Bowl or Notre Dame in the Coliseum necessary to qualify for a post season game. Coach Hyde gives his thoughts on how USC played following the bye week and what he liked and didn't like from the offense after head coach Lincoln Riley inserted UNLV transfer Jayden Maiava as the starting quarterback. Maiava started off slow but then got things going, finishing with three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown, but also an ugly pick-6 and fumble deep in USC territory. Hyde talks about his arm strength and his ability to extend plays and pick up yardage with his legs, and how all of that helped Woody Marks and the run game get going. Defensively this USC defense did its job against a struggling Nebraska offense. The Trojans had five tackles for loss including two sacks and picked off a pair of Dylan Raiola passes including the final play of the game. Coach talks about what he saw from that side of the ball and how that can translate to the final two games of the season. CLICK HERE for 30% OFF an annual VIP membership to USCFootball.com! Tunnel Vision: Previewing USC hosting Nebraska, an extremely important contest for both programs
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Jack Smith and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") were hoping for a chill show following the bye week but nothing is ever chill when you cover the Trojans. The guys will try and focus on previewing this extremely important matchup with Nebraska, with both teams fighting desperately for the privilege of playing in a bowl game. The Huskers are riding a 3-game losing streak, the second-straight Big Ten opponent to have entered the Coliseum after losing three-straight, while the Trojans have dropped four of their last five games. They will also discuss the major offensive changes both programs made during the bye week, with USC benching Miller Moss in favor of Jayden Maiava at quarterback and Nebraska promoting newly hired offensive analyst Dana Holgorsen to offensive coordinator, calling plays for freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola. The early signing period is quickly approaching and the Trojans top-10 recruiting class for 2025 is already taking hits, most notably the de-commit of four-star edge rusher Hayden Lowe. The guys weigh in on this recruiting failure and where USC can go from here to help bolster the defensive line through high school recruiting. USC is also dealing with a minor distraction after being issued a 1-year probation and $50,000 fine from the NCAA for allowing analysts to coach players during 2022 and 2023. USC put on NCAA probation, throwback uniforms plus a 4-star defensive de-commit
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about the breaking news that the USC football program was put on a one year probation and fined $50,000 by the NCAA for illegal coaching by some analysts during 2022 and 2023. The guys talk about this slap on the wrist from everyone's least favorite institution and if these penalties actually mean anything for Lincoln Riley and his Trojan football program. During the live version of the show, news broke that 2025 4-star edge rusher Hayden Lowe had flipped his commitment from USC to Miami. In real time Ryan and Connor give their thoughts on this bad turn of events for USC football recruiting, including how Lowe talked to Connor after his game on Friday and reaffirmed his commitment to be a Trojan. Triple-Double Podcast: Assistant Anthony Ruta joins the show after USC men & women basketball teams start 2-0
The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the 2-0 starts of the USC men's and women's basketball programs and looking forward to the next week of action including a ACC/Big 10 matchup with Cal. Also special guest USC men's assistant head coach Anthony Ruta comes on to discuss the first week of action in the Eric Musselman era. He talks about the positives and negatives of the first two games, discusses the design of schedule building, including what the Trojans were trying to do with their schedule this season, and breaks down how Musselman and his staff try to teach players in a variety of different styles to be able to reach each player better. Shotgun and Connor look at where the men and women's programs stand after the first week of play and preview the upcoming week that will see four games played at the Galen Center between the two programs. The Women of Troy welcome a CSUN squad that is one win away from tying its total from last season when it went 3-27 losing 26 games in a row. They then play a unique afternoon matinee matchup against Santa Clara on Friday. The USC men continue their battle with the state of Texas, facing off against another UT school in UT-Arlington on Wednesday before a strange-to-say ACC-Big Ten matchup against previously familiar foe, California, Sunday evening. However, the Golden Bears, like the Trojans, have a roster that is completely revamped from last season with transfers from all over the country, including Stanford, Vanderbilt, Michigan State, Grand Canyon and others. Helium Boys: Playcalling woes in Washington, Jayden Maiava time and Shotgun invades Paris
Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down another disappointing USC loss, this time with a slightly different script but with all the familiar elements as the Trojans held a fourth-quarter lead on the road only to relinquish the lead and not be able to find the end zone for the game-winning score. They also look forward, giving their thoughts on what to expect following Lincoln Riley's decision to bench Miller Moss in favor of Jayden Maiava. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Shotgun discussing the anniversary of a classic Helium Boys road trip as well as the Women of Troy getting a gutsy season-opening victory in the Aflec Oui-Play event in Paris. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to tell an epic story of trying to find food after the conclusion of the USC-Washington game. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. Zachariah Branch had one of his best games this season while young pass rushers Sam Greene and Kameryn Fountain continue to earn more opportunities. Maiava's stock is obviously on the rise as he takes over the reins of the USC offense and the Trojans' run game, when given a chance, continues to excel recently. On the flip side, the Trojans' saw some weak points at right tackle as well as one of their cornerback spots. Those and Riley's playcalling are focused upon in the Stock Down portion. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing young players that could become starters next season and USC women's basketball's dramatic win in Paris. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the Trojans and what stood out from Shotgun's trip to Paris.
