How active will USC be as the spring NCAA Transfer Portal opens
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about the highly anticipated opening of the spring NCAA Transfer Portal Window and how active will the Trojans be? Head coach Lincoln Riley has said USC would do their portal evaluations and add the "right couple of guys" to help them get ready for the season. With the House settlement potentially passing, allowing athletic departments to share revenue with student athletes, will that make this spring portal a Portal Palooza or more of a Portal Passivity? All eyes will be on the quarterback position, where following the season many thought the Trojans would be in the market for a signal caller. It still isn't out of the question that USC brings in a QB, but it just doesn't seem very likely at this point. We have heard the Trojans aren't interested in former Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava, but with Tennessee now scouring the country for Nico's replacement, that could cause a domino effect that opens up a potential quarterback poaching opportunity for Lincoln Riley. The guys also discuss all of the news and notes from spring practice including tight end Lake McRee shutting it down for the rest of spring due to an undisclosed injury and redshirt freshman defensive end Lorenzo Cowan entering the portal. Coach Harvey Hyde assessing USC's quarterback situation following the Nico Iamaleava fiasco
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together taking a detailed look at USC's quarterback situation and the potential national QB shakeup with Nico Iamaleava and Tennessee parting ways. The Trojans are in good shape with returning starter Jayden Maiava, five-star freshman Husan Longstreet and former five-star prospect Sam Huard occupying Luke Huard's quarterback meetings, but should head coach Lincoln Riley look to get in on Iamaleava? Coach Hyde and Ryan give their thoughts on the entire QB picture for USC and what this stunning NIL development means for the future of college football. Coach Hyde also discusses who he feels is the current face of the Trojan football program, what areas he feels this team has improved on this off-season, if the offensive philosophy has or should change going forward, how tough will the Big Ten be in 2025 and why is spring football such a big secret all of a sudden. Dedeaux Download Podcast: Midseason All-American Ethan Hedges joins after Trojans rally to sweep Ohio State
The Dedeaux Download Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and podcast co-host Kasey Kazliner breaking down USC baseball's 4-0 week that featured a midweek win over San Diego State and the Trojans' first Big Ten series sweep after they rallied late in back-to-back games to finish off Ohio State. That included being down to their final out Sunday before Brayden Dowd hit a game-tying home run, and USC won on a Dean Carpentier walk-off. Shotgun and Kasey break down all the action, looking at the positives of the Trojans improving to 20-11 with a 9-6 mark in the Big Ten with their comeback ability and the clutch gene of Dowd. The podcasters also look at three negatives on each side, including the continued black hole that is USC's Sunday starting pitching role. USC two-way star Ethan Hedges then joins the show to talk about his transition to being on the mound this season after being exclusively a hitter his first two seasons with the Trojans. He discusses how he's been able to unlock his power potential, hitting 11 home runs already this season after having just four combined in his first two seasons. Hedges also chats about the 'one-more-run' mentality the Trojans have this season and how that's helped them come from behind in multiple games this season. After a break, Shotgun and Kasey take a look at where the Trojans stand after winning another conference series, including multiple players ranking amongst the Big Ten and national leaders. The podcast then previews USC's upcoming week of action, beginning with a midweek matchup at their home away from home as the Trojans will be the road team against Loyola Marymount at Page Stadium where USC has been playing its midweek 'home' games. The Trojans then head to Penn State to take on the Nittany Lions in a battle of two teams tied for fifth in the Big Ten standings. The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the conclusion of the Women of Troy's remarkable 31-4 season as the Trojans advanced to the Elite 8 with a 67-61 win over Kansas State before falling in the Elite 8 to UConn for the second consecutive season. The Dedeaux Download Podcast goes to Dedeaux: Sergio Brown shows us around, talks progress, player development
The Dedeaux Download Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and podcast co-host Kasey Kazliner breaking down USC baseball's 2-2 week that featured a missed opportunity against a ranked UC Irvine team in the midweek and an outstanding come-from-behind win to take a road series win at Indiana behind another big performance from Ethan Hedges. The podcasters get to see the progression of how construction is going and get a lay of the land of where everything will be when everything is completed before next season begins. USC director of player development Sergio Brown, who showed the podcast duo around the grounds, joins the show to talk about the latest development and progression of both the stadium and the Trojan players. Brown discusses the unique elements the new Dedeaux Field will have and how valuable it has been for the team to be able to use the field surface for practice while the stadium is essentially being built around them starting about a month ago. The interview with Brown concludes with some discussion about the Trojans' series win over Indiana where USC rallied from down 12-3 to win the series finale with 10 unanswered runs capped by a Brayden Dowd go-ahead two-run homer in the ninth inning. After a break, Shotgun and Kasey take a look at where the Trojans stand after getting another conference series win to get back to .500 in Big Ten play. Peristyle Podcast - Coach Harvey Hyde on what he wants to see the USC football team accomplish this spring
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the highly anticipated start to spring football 2025, where head coach Lincoln Riley and the Trojans have 15 practices to acclimate the new players and coaches in preparation for the upcoming season. As a former division one head football coach, Hyde talks about what he would like to see this team get done in the spring in order to get the program going in the right direction, competing for conference championships and a spot in the College Football Playoffs. USC lost a lot of close games last season, including five where the Trojans had a fourth quarter lead. Coach Hyde talks about what he feels this team needs to do in order to be prepared for the end of game scenarios, turning those close losses into victories (and ensuring the game isn't close against overmatched opponents). Coach Hyde also gives his thoughts on the new-look roster with some prominent names missing and some promising new faces roaming the sidelines. From a deep and talented running backs room to a bigger and more athletic defensive line, the guys discuss where they think this team will be better on the field and where they feel they still need to improve. He also talks about the traditional spring game being removed and what Riley had to say about the reasoning behind it. CLICK HERE for 50% OFF an annual VIP membership to USCFootball.com! The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the Women of Troy's advancement to the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive season and the monumental cost that came with USC defeating Mississippi State, 96-59, in the Round of 32 matchup. Shotgun and Connor recall their immediate reactions of JuJu Watkins' devastating knee injury and discuss the impact the injury will have not only on this year's NCAA tournament but also on the future of the Trojans' program. They also talk about the charged-up atmosphere inside the Galen Center and debate whether or not the home crowd took it too far in their booing and jeering of the Bulldogs. After a break, USC freshman point guard Kayleigh Heckel joins the show. She talks about the Trojans' bouncing back from the loss of their teammate to go out and pummel Mississippi State for the rest of the game as the Trojans outscored MSU 83-57 after Watkins went down to the floor in pain. Heckel discusses how the team dynamics change without Watkins' presence and discusses the freshman class she is a part of that will need to step up the rest of the way this postseason. She chats about the bond the freshman group has as well as her relationships with some of the older players, including Kiki Iriafen and Watkins, who helped recruit Heckel to USC. Shotgun and Connor then look at where the Women of Troy stand heading into a Sweet 16 matchup with No. 5-seed Kansas State and debate who needs to step up the most for the Trojans to continue their season. The podcasting duo also do as much looking ahead as possible with undetermined rosters at the men's basketball team's Crown Basketball Tournament in Las Vegas. USC pitching coach Sean Allen then joins the show to talk about his impressions of the Trojans' pitching staff as the season approaches the halfway point. Allen discusses how Caden Hunter and Caden Aoki have both been successful despite attacking things in two different manners and chats about his mound visit philosophy. Following Hunter's appearance, Shotgun and Kasey take a look at where exactly the Trojans stand after getting another conference series win. USC Triple-Double: Trojan hoops enters stretch run for men & women; Rashaun Agee joins the show
The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the latest USC hoops action as both the men's and women's teams went 1-1 in the last week with the results featuring a pair of top 10 upsets. The USC men recorded the biggest win of the Eric Musselman era last weekend when the Trojans beat No. 7 Michigan State at home 70-64. Point guard Desmond Claude injured his knee, was sent to the locker room and sat out six minutes, but managed to return to the game and scored a team-high 19 points. Claude did however miss USC's next contest due to what is being called a bone bruise, and the Trojans fell 77-75 in dramatic fashion on the road to Northwestern. USC had stormed back from 15 down only toe give up the game-winning basket in the final seconds. The Women of Troy lost their first conference game of the season on the road at Iowa, 76-69, last weekend. USC got off to an awful start to trail 18-1, but battled back to take a lead into halftime. Lindsay Gottlieb's team struggled in the fourth quarter though, particularly on defense allowing Iowa to score 25 points in the final frame. The Women of Troy bounced back to beat Wisconsin on the road 86-64 Wednesday night. USC men's basketball senior forward Rashaun Agee also joins the showto talk about returning to his home state of Illinois to play Northwestern. He also discussed Musselman's coaching style, what the Big Ten road trips have been like for USC and much more. Agee has been playing his best basketball of the season lately averaging 12 points per game in USC's last seven contests. Shotgun and Connor then look at where both Trojan teams stand and forward at the upcoming matchups where another pair of top 10 matchups loom this weekend. The men finish up their road trip with at trip to West Lafayette to take on No. 2 Purdue Friday while the USC women return home to take on No. 8 Ohio State in the Galen Center Saturday. Initial reactions to meeting the new USC coaching and personnel staff
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about USC's big 2025 Signing Day press conference where they heard from head coach Lincoln Riley and all of the new coaching and personnel staff members. The Trojans have added some impressive talents and personalities that should help this program get to the next level. Both Ryan and Connor were very optimistic about the new hires after the press conference, with assistant head coach for defense and linebackers coach Rob Ryan standing out for his outgoing personality and exceptional story telling. They were also impressed with Chad Savage as tight ends and inside receivers coach and Trovon Reed as the new cornerbacks coach, both young coaches are exceptional on the recruiting trail and should help the Trojans tremendously. It does appear that USC will be losing one staff member with assistant linebackers coach Bryson Allen-Williams heading to Georgia according to a 247Sports report. On the personnel side, Chad Bowden coming over from Notre Dame is looking like a homerun hire. He is filling out his staff, with the latest edition being Wisconsin general manager Max Stienecker who will join the previously announced Zaire Turner hired as the new assistant AD of recruiting Operations and Dre Brown as the executive director of scouting and personnel. The guys also talk about the two new additions to the roster, with USC announcing the signing of Jadyn Ramos, a defensive end from Conroe (Texas) and AJ Tuitele, a linebacker from Mojave (Nev.).
