Recapping the Trojans first day of spring football plus USC Pro Day

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Chris Trevino return to the studio to break down all of the news and notes from the highly anticipated first day of USC spring football. New head coach Lincoln Riley has been at the helm about 100 days and on Tuesday he got his first opportunity to see his new squad practicing officially on Howard Jones Field. Riley called his roster one of the most unique in college football history with tons of turnover and new additions out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. The guys talk about what Riley had to say about not being finished with his retooling of the roster, with 10 or more players to be added between now and the start of fall camp in August. The guys also talk about the offensive position groups, starting with the quarterbacks and highly touted Oklahoma quarterback transfer Caleb Williams. The media was able to talk to Williams for the very first time in a USC jersey and the true sophomore did not disappoint, holding court in front of a large group of reports. Williams showed off his infectious personality and showed why he was able to come in and establish himself as a leader on this team despite only being on campus for a little over a month. They also talk about the running back room that is down to three scholarship backs at the moment and the wide receivers where several high profile transfers came in, including Mario Williams from Oklahoma. They also talk about the USC Pro Day which featured 15 former Trojan football players including potential first rounder Drake Jackson (who looked much bigger than he did just a few months ago). There was still no Drake London due to his injury, but he plans on doing his own workout on campus in early April. Ryan and Chris will be doing regular podcasts together going forward, so make sure you send in your questions addressed to them at [email protected]. USC spring football schedule revealed plus running back Brandon Campbell hits the transfer portal

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Chris Trevino return to the studio to discuss the details of the newly released USC spring football practice schedule that includes more media availability than they thought, but certainly less access than they have seen in year's past. The media will be able to watch the first 20 minutes of 10 of the 15 spring practices and then after the workout some players and coaches will be available to interview. On the closed Saturday practices head coach Lincoln Riley will talk to the media via Zoom, answering questions about how practice went. USC spring practices start on March 22 and run through the ESPN live televised spring game on Saturday, April 23. Fans will be permitted to attend the spring game in the Coliseum, but they will not be allowed to view any of the other practices this spring. The Trojans will also hold a closed Pro Day on Wednesday, March 23. The guys also talk about the latest Trojan football player to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, redshirt freshman running back Brandon Campbell. With the departure of Campbell USC will only have three scholarship running backs available this spring, all of which are transfers from other programs. Campbell came in with a group of Texas players and coaches, many of whom are no longer with the program. We felt he may stick it out and see where he stands after five weeks of spring football practices, but he decided to pull the trigger early, enter the portal and try to find a new home to continue his college career. Ryan and Chris will be doing regular podcasts together going forward, so make sure you send any questions you have for them to [email protected]. Chris Trevino and Ryan Abraham project what USC's 2022 depth chart will look like for the spring

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Chris Trevino are back again breaking down USC's roster position by position and projecting what the football depth chart will look like heading into spring football 2022. There are several new faces from high school and the NCAA Transfer Portal that will be making a splash for the Trojans and in many cases replacing players that moved on to the NFL or transferred out of the program. Ryan and Chris go up and down the roster giving their thoughts on which players will start and compete for playing time in Lincoln Riley's first year as head coach. The guys also discuss the breaking news that Trojan quarterback Mo Hasan, after fully recovering from knee surgery, injured his Achilles and will not be able to compete during spring practice. The unfortunate injury to Hasan likely means more surgery and rehab for the transfer from Vanderbilt and leaves the Trojans with just two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster at the moment. They also discuss the huge recruiting weekend for the Trojans with high profile prospects from all over the country coming to Los Angeles for Junior Day and the USC basketball team getting beat by Arizona (with Riley and quarterback Caleb Williams in attendance). Ryan Abraham and Chris Trevino on failed CFP expansion plus a massive USC mailbag

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Chris Trevino are back again with a huge mailbag issue of the show, with questions coming in over email and on Twitter about the state of the USC Trojans football program as we crawl towards the highly anticipated 2022 college football season. The guys start out discussing how the college football powers that be couldn’t come to a consensus on expanding the college football playoff, meaning we will keep the four-team format until the contract runs on after the 2025 college football season. What does that mean for the Pac-12 going forward and does it really matter as much for Lincoln Riley and USC? Heard It on the Sidelines: USC hoops with Drew Peterson after big UCLA win

The Heard it on the Sidelines podcast with Shotgun Spratling returns with a special guest coming off a career performance in what he describes as the best basketball atmosphere he’s ever played in. In this episode of the Heard It on the Sidelines podcast, a part of the Peristyle Podcast family of shows, we head to the hardwood to talk about USC basketball’s big 67-64 rivalry win over UCLA Saturday night that helped the Trojans improve to 21-4 (10-4) and move into second place in the Pac-12 standings. The star of that victory, fifth-year junior guard Drew Peterson, joins us to talk about what will be forever known in USC lore as the Drew Peterson Game. We talk with the Pac-12 Player of the Week about his career-high 27-point, 12-rebound, five-block, four-assist performance and the reaction he’s received around campus since the game. Peterson also discusses how he turned around a slump to catch fire when his team needed him the most and what it’s going to take for the Trojans to play with the same fire the rest of the season as they did against the Bruins. Coach Harvey Hyde shares his thoughts on the ongoing Caleb Williams saga

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast Coach Harvey Hyde and Ryan Abraham are back talking about the biggest story in college football right now, what is happening with former Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams. The reported deadline to register for classes in the spring semester passed on Friday and as of our recording time on Monday there has still been no word on whether Williams has enrolled at USC or not. The latest on USC's transfers and Caleb Williams

Peristyle Podcast hosts Keely Eure and Ryan Abraham are back in studio together for the very last time, at least the last time with Keely as a member of the USCFootball.com team. Next week Keely will be taking on her new role as a team reporter for USC football and basketball and we wish her the very best! But in the meantime we have her on the show one last time trying to make sense of all of the Caleb Williams drama that is getting crazier by the hour. The former Oklahoma quarterback has about 48 hours from the time of our recording to enroll at USC and take part in spring football, after that he would have to wait until the summer to enroll (or potentially enroll somewhere else that has a later enrollment cutoff date). Will Williams pick the Trojans or end up at another program? We shall see (and hopefully soon). Keely and Ryan also discuss all of the roster turnover we have seen since the end of last season, with 31 players no longer on the team and 20 new additions including 11 players from the NCAA Transfer Portal. Many of the holes on the roster have been addressed, but that quarterback spot is the one that as of this recording is still in need of an answer. Which position group has gained the most through the portal? The trio also discusses the departure of freshman phenom Jaxson Dart. Coach Harvey Hyde on Lincoln Riley quickly making USC football nationally relevant again

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast Coach Harvey Hyde and Ryan Abraham are back at it talking about what has been a crazy USC off-season that has seen the Trojans crawling their way back to becoming nationally relevant again without even playing a game. With the NCAA Transfer Portal action coming fast and furious and players no longer needing to sit out a year when they change schools, new head coach Lincoln Riley is putting college football free agency to work and completely rebuilding the USC football roster. By acquiring talented and productive players from conference rivals and other top programs from across the country, Riley is keeping the Trojan football brand in the news and putting the team in a position to win faster than anyone likely imagined. Tunnel Vision: Making sense of the Trojans football Transferpalooza

Tunnel Vision hosts Keely Eure and Ryan Abraham are back in studio with Shotgun Spratling joining remotely for our first Tunnel Vision episode of the New Year. The last time we had a show the USC football roster looked significantly different than it does today, with 31 players gone and 18 new players added to the squad since the end of the 2021 football season. Head coach Lincoln Riley said they could see 35 players or more turnover on the roster and as we approach the traditional signing day, USC is already close to that number. The team will talk about the players that have left and some of the reasons why they have moved on, the players that were brought in and what sort of impact they can have on the program and what players are still out there that Riley could add in the coming weeks and months. This will also unfortunately be our final Tunnel Vision show with Keely Eure! She has taken a job with the USC athletic department as the director of creative content and team reporter. Emergency Peristyle Podcast - USC quarterback Jaxson Dart has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal

Peristyle Podcast hosts Keely Eure and Ryan Abraham are returned to the studio to discuss the breaking news that true freshman quarterback Jaxson Dart has decided to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal and explore his options with other teams. Dart is the second USC QB to enter the portal this off-season, following Kedon Slovis who has already transferred to Pittsburgh. The Dart news comes at an interesting time with Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams in Los Angeles over the weekend, attending the Rams game and the Lakers game. Rumors are rampant that Williams would follow his former head coach Lincoln Riley to USC, so Keely and Ryan give their thoughts on the Williams rumors and Dart entering the portal. They also talk about former Oklahoma wide receiver Mario Williams and the chances he follows Riley to USC and the Tweet from freshman tight end Michael Trigg stating that he has entered the NCAA Transfer Porta as well (although he isn't currently listed in the portal). They end the show going over the newly announced assistant coaching staff for Riley, with 9 new names plus former USC interim head coach Donte Williams making up the staff. As USC limps towards the finish line, the 2021 football season can't end soon enough

Peristyle Podcast hosts Keely Eure and Ryan Abraham are back in studio reluctantly discussing what was yet another historic loss in the Coliseum, this time falling 62-33 to crosstown rival UCLA. It was the most points scored by the Bruins in the rivalry and by the end of the game, it just didn't seem like the Trojans even wanted to be on the field. Unfortunately for them, there are still two games left against an opponent that is a better version than UCLA (BYU) and an opponent that started off the season poorly, but is now playing really good football (Cal). USC technically still has bowl eligibility to play for, but that would mean pulling the upset two weeks in a row. Keely and Ryan talk about the Trojans playing out the string as them limp towards the finish line and await the announcement of the next head coach. Speaking of that announcement, they also talk about some of the top candidates on the board and how the timing of the announcement could work going forward. Coach Harvey Hyde on USC's embarrassing 62-33 loss to UCLA

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast Coach Harvey Hyde and Ryan Abraham are back trying to make sense of yet another absolute beatdown in the not-so-friendly confines of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, with UCLA putting up 62 points on the Trojans, the most ever by the Bruins in the rivalry. Coach Hyde talks about what he saw out on the field, how the defense couldn't get anything going after the first couple of drives and how he feels true freshman quarterback Jaxson Dart did in his first start. The guys also talk about what USC fans can expect from the remaining two games, both of which the Trojans need to win in order to become bowl eligible. Speaking of bowl eligible, should that even be a goal at this point for USC, or do they need to simply let this season come to an end and move on to whoever the next head coach will be? Special guest Gerard Martinez breaking down USC's struggling 2022 recruiting class and the Trojans head coaching search

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast host Ryan Abraham welcomes in a special guest to talk about the Trojans recruiting class and head coaching search, USCFootball.com national recruiting analyst Gerard Martinez. The last time Gerard was on the show it was an early morning emergency podcast following USC's loss to Oregon State.
