S7 Ep 1Metal Mayhem ROC: Twisted Sister’s JJ French on 2026 50th Anniversary Shows, Legacy, PMRC & Longevity

E

JJ French has lived the full arc of American heavy metal — from club-level survival to global legacy. As guitarist, co-founder, and longtime strategist behind Twisted Sister, JJ French reflects on what it actually takes to last 50 years in a business designed to burn artists out. This is not a nostalgia interview. It is a candid conversation about discipline, reinvention, timing, and truth. JJ discusses the early definition of success, why the UK embraced Twisted Sister before the U.S., the cultural divide between punk and metal at CBGB, the PMRC hearings and their real-world consequences, lineup decisions for the current era, and why the band is returning in 2026 for select 50th-anniversary performances. The conversation also covers milestone performances — including post-9/11 New York City shows, Sweden Rock 2022, and the Morristown Twisted Christmas concert — along with reflections on legacy, music licensing, health, and perspective earned the hard way. Chapters are included for easy navigation. Imbalanced History: Wraps, Gaps, and Playing Taps!

E

Whew! 2025 was a helluva year of loss for Rockers all around the world! But the year also brought back some artists to active duty (Gaps), and as usually happens, some artists have hung up the touring game, or the music, completely (Wraps) in this past year. There's a personal side to this week's episode as well. Here's to a brighter (and healthier) new year for our Rock heroes, who are aging as we do. Did we forget someone? First Concert Memories #30: Amy Winehouse by Amy Linden

E

To kick off 2026 with a bang, we welcomed back music writer Amy Linden of Immaletyoufinish Podcast to share with all you lovely people her tale of seeing and interviewing Amy Winehouse right as she broke in the US. While Frank had been a sensation overseas, it was her new album Back To Black which would take her to dizzying heights of stardom and create an image of a hard-partying girl from North London. Amy Linden not only saw Amy Winehouse's first US performance at Joe's Pub in NYC but also interviewed her later that year and saw her subsequent NYC shows. Amy has been in the business for decades and came on First Concert Memories last year to talk about seeing The Sex Pistols in their final show in San Francisco when she was new to the industry. As an industry insider, she relates the story of pitching the Village Voice to let her cover Amy's US debut. Linden sticks up for Winehouse as a troubled woman who just needed a hug despite her tough exterior. Hear about Winehouse singing with The Dap-Kings and her back up singers/dancers created an amazing show. But you'll also hear how she saw signs in her interview that Amy was troubled and the shows she gave later in 2007 didn't live up to the promise of the early 2007 show at Joe's Pub. Amy Winehouse had the talent to be an enduring superstar but her lifestyle and health problems ensured that she would be known as a shooting star. Great insights from Amy Linden - hear her on Immaletyoufinish Podcast Check out our new website: Ugly American Werewolf in London Website Twitter Threads Instagram YouTube LInkTree www.pantheonpodcasts.com Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 133See Hear - Get Crazy

Aaaaah, 80s cinema. When asked to think about films from the 80s, chances are you recall blockbuster adventures featuring an archaeologist carrying a whip or dancing as a form of rebellion or taking a day off from school and getting into hijinks. If the backers of a film by Allan Arkush hadn't decided to go adopt the Bialystock principle to film production, it's possible that a chaotic comedy about a rock concert on New Year's Eve at a theatre modelled on the Fillmore East may also have been fondly recalled by many people. Welcome to episode 133 of See Hear. In 1983, film director and music nerd (and previous See Hear guest) Allan Arkush wanted to make a film mildly recalling his days working at the Fillmore East while studying at NYU. He had to make certain changes to get it financed, but the backers did everything they could to get that film sunk for tax reasons. That film was Get Crazy. The story behind it is as frustrating as the film itself is entertaining...and Kerry, Charlie and I get into both aspects. The film is a live-action cartoon with the old-fashioned elements of “let's put on a show” and villains who want to destroy the theatre the show is playing in at any cost. It's a film that could only have been made at this time....Malcolm McDowell, Lee Ving, and Bill Henderson show how to be a front man for a band. There are so many jokes that don't land...and many more that do. That doesn't matter. The backers wanted this film to ride the popularity of Airplane / Flying High....and despite Arkush's original plans for the film to be a more serious consideration of his early memories, it works a treat as a musical comedy of bizarre proportions. If you haven't seen Get Crazy, there's a beautiful blu ray available from Kino Lorber, or it's on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrIRmMNi800&t=504s It's wonderful to have Charlie of the Stinking Pause podcast on an ongoing basis while Tim is taking a well needed break. All the best to our listeners as we say farewell / piss off to 2025. Happy new year to us all. Ugly American Werewolf in London: 2025 Part 2 - In Memoriam, Live Concerts & Artists

E

To start our second look back on 2025, we want to thank everyone who listens to our show and interacts with us to share your love of rock music. We've entered our 6th year and want to show appreciation for all of you who choose to share your rock n roll journey with us. It inspires us to keep our curiosity alive and learn more about the music we love. So thank you all. To wrap up the year we had to pay respects to the many rockers and legends we lost, including guest of the show Terry Reid. Superlungs is British Rock Royalty and we're sorry he's gone but glad we had the chance to thank him for the music. From Ace Frehley to Ozzy Osbourne and Brian Wilson to Sly Stone we lost too many this year and we took a moment to honor them. Looking back on seeing Metallica from the owner's box in Nashville to Iron Maiden in Stockholm and legends like Yes, The Black Crowes and Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening stoked the fires of some fond memories. And our 3 episode series on Live Aid at 40 really stirred some nostalgia and gave us the chance to welcome original MTV VJ Alan Hunter to the show. And we had to thank our artists and legendary guests like Metal Blade Records CEO Brian Slagel, artist Hugh Syme, Stu Allen and Scarlet Rivera. 2025 was a great year and 2026 is looking great at The Wolf!! Shout It Out Loudcast: "Bruce Kulick's BK3"

This week Tom & Zeus review the 2010 solo album from former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick, "BK3." BK3 is Bruce Kulick's 3rd solo album. It features a lot of guests, including, KISS members, Gene Simmons and Eric Singer. It also has appearances from Nick Simmons, Steve Lukather and Doug Fieger and also from Bruce's band Union, drummer Brent Fitz and singer John Corabi. The album was filled with a variety of songs and styles. The songs have different singers including Bruce Kulick. Bruce co-wrote all the songs. This is the 8th album by KISS members outside of KISS that SIOL has reviewed. As usual they rank the songs and then rank the album and covers against the seven previous KISS member albums outside of KISS. So "hey guys" tune in or get your ass flapjacked! Yeah Bruce! Only Three Lads: 6th Annual O3L Holiday Party!

E

’Twas the night of the O3L Holiday Party, and all through the cabin The drinks were a-flowin, and the friends were a-blabbin’ Meanwhile, the snow piled up, it was treacherous out there, And Bob Dylan’s words rang true, you ain’t going nowhere. The turntable hummed with a familiar warm crackle, As laughter rang out with a loud joyful cackle. Mixtapes were stacked by the glow of the fire, Each one tells a story, a hope, a desire. (Oh, and incidentally, cassettes melt, so that’s a really bad idea.) From post-punk to new wave, these songs tell our truth, We argued what really defined the music of our youth. There were games full of nonsense, of trivia and cheer, “Did this actually happen?”—the answer unclear. But what clatter arose, and echoed all through the city It was flippin’ “Word Girl” by Scritti Politti, But oh how they danced, some arguably twerked Brett was seething in the corner, like a judgmental jerk And just when they thought it couldn’t get any funner, “Come on Eileen” came on, by Dexy’s Midnight Runners. We all joined in on the chorus, what a jubilant sound, That is, except Uncle Gregg, but perhaps he’ll come around. So settle in close as for the 6th year, Our holiday tradition is finally here. Tonight, we’re all snowed in at O3L cabin So let the memories start, Let the party begin! Join Uncle Gregg and Brett for a holiday party filled with laughter, (mostly) good cheer, and plenty of holiday spirit(s) - including our friends Joshua, Kimberly (who brought along Timmy the Taxi with her!), Lance, Paul, and Matt & Stefan from Paisley Underground legends The Rain Parade. We make the most of the blizzard-like conditions, making themed mixtapes, playing brand new O3L games ("That's Soooo 2025!") and Alternativity") and spinning future holiday classics by Swansea Sound ("Not My Order"), Mossy Ledge ("Christmas Lights"), Autos ("X-Mas Eve At The Metro"), and Slow Owls ("Counting Down To Christmas"). It may be freezing outside the cabin, but inside we're gettin' LIT! Happy Holidays to you and yours from O3L! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ep 190Love That Album Episode 190 - Favourite Musical Discoveries of 2025

Here we are at the end of another year. I won't pretend it was wonderful....part of it was downright horrible to be honest. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, two things made me happy – the kindness of some people and wonderful music. Love That Album is all about the music. Welcome to episode 190 of Love That Album. As long time listeners will know, at the end of most years, I like to reach out to some of my music loving and musically articulate friends to chat about what music excited them that year. The emphasis is on music discovery – some of it may be have been released but some of it may be 50 years old. As long as it's new for my guests, that's all that matters. I now present for you the 2025 edition of this tradition. Joining me for this year's discussion are: - Shane Pacey. Shane is part of the LTA furniture at this stage. Discussing music with him is always a treat. He's the front man for both the Bondi Cigars and the Shane Pacey Trio. He's a great musician, sure, but he's a passionate advocate for music history and a great raconteur in that regard. Check out his music at either https://shanepaceytriomusic.bandcamp.com/ or https://bondicigars.com/ - Farmer John (aka John Couture). Farmer John is the host of the superb Vinyl Relics podcast dedicated to the history of (mostly) obscure bands from the late 60s / early 70s rock era. He discusses albums with musicians who didn't always get their day in the sun but should have. Psychedelia, hard rock, pop and folk are his passions. He's also a guitarist and songwriter for a great band called Newport Electric. Get Vinyl Relics wherever you get podcasts, and find his music at https://www.newportelectricmusic.com/ - Brian Nankervis. In Australia, Brian needs no introduction....but for the rest of you, Brian is most famous for being the co host (with Julia Zemiro of Rockwiz) – previously a TV program (which yours truly had 15 minutes of infamy on), now a live touring show. Brian is indeed a rock music brain. He also hosts a weekly show on the ABC in Melbourne with Jacinta Parsons, The Friday Revue. - Jeff Jenkins. Jeff is a music journalist and has been writing a weekly column called Howzat for many many years, as well as writing books about Molly Meldrum and Skyhooks. He also is a regular guest on RRR's The Australian Mood with Neil Rogers. JJ was also the very first guest to be a part of LTA 14 and a half years ago, back when most people didn't even know what a podcast was. You can read his articles at http://www.livinginthelandofoz.com/howzat.html I'm truly grateful for these marvellous musical folk for giving me their time and great conversations. In the off chance you were interested in what some of my favourite discoveries were this year, I have recorded solo segments I play in between my chats with my guests giving 3 albums that gave me pleasure this year – there were many more, but I didn't want this to be a 10 hour show. If you've listened to an episode this year or sent me a correspondence or posted in the Facebook group to have music discussions or recommended LTA or See Hear Podcast to your friends or have been a guest on the show, I offer my gratitude to you. If you’ve been enjoying the show, please consider giving us a favourable review on whatever podcast platform you listen on and let your friends know that our show exists. If you don't enjoy the show, tell your adversaries to tune in. We don't care who listens..... Love That Album is proudly part of the Pantheon Network of music podcasts. Check out all the other wonderful shows at http://pantheonpodcasts.com You can send me feedback at [email protected] (written or mp3 voicemail) or join the Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/groups/lovethatalbum You can download the show by searching for Love That Album on whatever podcast app you favour (except Spotify). Ugly American Werewolf in London: 2025 Part 1 - The Albums, Authors & Podcasters

What a year 2025 has been! We want to take the opportunity to thank all of our loyal listeners and all the new ones who've found us this year. In a year of milestones we celebrated our 250th episode in September and then wrapped up our 5th year of the show in November. Our love of rock music is stronger than ever and we're so happy we get to share it with like-minded rock fans from around the globe. So thank you for all the support! It has become tradition that we break down our year in review into 2 different shows: one on the albums, authors & podcasters we welcomed on the show and a second on the live concerts we reviewed and artists and legends we hosted. This first edition focuses on the 35 albums we celebrated, which ones we loved, we ones surprised us and which ones made us want to do another by that artist in 2026. Then we walk through all the authors and podcasters who came on our show, usually on our monthly sidecast First Concert Memories. It's a great showcase for fans of rock music to share the stories that helped shape their rock n roll journey and relive some fond (and sometimes not so fond) memories. Next week is Part 2 on the live shows, artists and legends with a special in memoriam to pay tribute to the legends we lost in 2025. Until then, enjoy 2025 Part 1 - The Albums, Authors & Podcasters!! No Singer No Problem - Ep653

E

This week on the Decibel Geek Podcast, Chris is hosting solo, leaning into a music-forward episode that features killer instrumentals; No Singer No Problem. This is NOT a shredder's episode; instead he's pulling from from across classic rock, hard rock, metal, and modern instrumental territory. Before diving in, Chris takes a moment to pay tribute to our late friend and former Decibel Geek staff member, Kate Thompson. Her love of music, dedication to the cause, and presence within the rock community are deeply missed, and this episode is dedicated in her memory. After a quick look back at listener feedback from the previous DBG Times episode and a new round of Geeks of the Week, the show shifts fully into instrumental mode. From an iconic Jeff Beck Group tune from the 60's to the shredder-ific heights scaled by Jason Becker and Criss Oliva to more moody, atomospheric tunes from Aerosmith, Russian Circles, and more, it's a solid mix of tunes. We hope you enjoy No Singer No Problem and SHARE with a friend! Decibel Geek is a proud member of the Pantheon Podcasts family. Contact Us!
