Being able to have electric cars and I think that's a shame, because a great way to get interest in grassroots motor racing is for people to be able to enter some street cars and hill climb is a great opportunity for that. When I think of record prices at auctions for classic cars, I think of the exotic, the very rare, and perhaps those with provenance for the vehicle. Now typically this has been things, to me, like Ferraris and here in Australia our 1970s muscle cars. But as time passes, what is bubbling to the surface in terms of collectible cars? Well, Collecting Cars Australia, the online auction house, has an item that might get a huge figure that is based on a more perhaps familiar model. Rich Fowler, is the General Manager of Collecting Cars in Australia, and he joins us on the line now.

One of the initial problems with our attitude to electric vehicles that still exists to a considerable extent today is the attitude that if it doesn't suit me, then it's no use to anyone. But good management is understanding the actual needs and opportunities in developing technologies. And in this case, electric vehicles, whether they be powered by batteries or hydrogen fuel cells. Two companies have just made a joint cooperation agreement announcement of that to encourage hydrogen fuel cells in vehicles in a particular location. Geoff Drucker is the managing director of Countrywide Hydrogen, and he joins us from Tasmania. Most car companies now have a new measure of how good their vehicle is. It's not just the power of the engine or the speed it can reach or the acceleration. It's the number and size of screens in the vehicle, with an emphasis on the quantity of information that can be shown. There's the dials and information screen in front of the driver, the centre console with the infotainment system and, if you are lucky, the heads up display. The preparation now to go to the snowy Mountains means carrying snow change, which you might have to suffer the imposition of turning off the entertainment system, getting out of the car to fit them in the special laybys provided on the side of a sealed Rd. Second hand car prices have been on a roller coaster ride with the impact of COVID, semi conductor shortages and geo political instabilities. Tanim Ahmed is Head of Business Intelligence & Product at Datium Insights which provide industry information particularly on the price of second hand cars. He summariesed the fluctuations since 2019 So prices increased for about to about one and a half, two years, and it peaked around March, April last year where prices were about 50% higher than where they were pre-COVID. So an average $10,000 car, you're going to look at spending 15,000. This is a massive, massive increase. And that's something that's been, you know, consistent with overseas markets as well. So if you look at the US, if you look at Europe, the UK, they experienced very similar trends, very strong price growth even over very New Zealand. Price growth wasn't as strong, but it was just very similar trend. However, since March, April last year, that trend has reversed. Currently second hand prices are around 40% higher than the beginning of 2020 and are not predicted to get all the way back to the pre COVID levels

David Lange is in segment management, the Michelin for East Asia and Oceana, particularly for their larger passenger car tires, which involves tires for performance vehicles, but also for electric vehicles. He is stationed in Thailand where I caught up with him on the line and asked him, what are the major factors that need to be considered when making tires for electric vehicles or EVs?

Brian Jubb has done a beautiful restoration of a 1923 Peugeot Van. In our conversation he revealed: The block and the head in the engine are one solid lump of iron, not separate castings. An engine that does not have an exhaust manifold, petrol pump, oil pump and the petrol is drip feed into the motor. Maximum Speed 60-65 km/hr First gear is very low but is needed to be especially if the engine is cold Pushing the gear lever up gets first gear – pushing it further gets reverse! Why little vans were a critical part of post-WWI development.
