It's like Chris Cason is going, "Here. have a podcast. On me." Back in the ye olden days of June 2011, we got to talk to one Chris Cason at HAMACON 2. Who is this mysterious Chris Cason, you ask? Why he’s a voice actor and ADR Director for Funimation Entertainment. He’s done several roles for Funimation, such as Gluttony in Full Metal Alchemist, Mr. Popo in Dragon Ball Kai, and Holy Roman Empire in Hetalia: Axis Powers, among others. He’s also done ADR work on such series as School Rumble, Birdy the Mighty: Decode, and YuYu Hakusho. It’s good times. But don’t take our word for it! Have a listen. It's a con that knows how to rock out with it's uh, anime out! THE OSMCAST IS BACK! And we have brought back with us the motherload of Middle Tennessee Anime Convention con report in audio form goodness. You can even tell it was even recorded at the con4! (Some parts, more than others. Also we originally planned on releasing this much, much earlier.) Since MTAC decided this year to Go to 11, so did we. We start off being all self absorbed and talked about our panels with the wonderful gentlemen of Akihabra Renditions (and SeishunCon). Then we drug in the guys from Tennesse’s own Chainsaw Buffet podcast to talk about the convention istelf. Finally, we get to have a chat with Nicholas Qualls (Senior Director of Public Relations), Christi Binkley (Director of Media Relation), and the big man himself Lucas Leverett (Convention Chairman, Senior Director of Venue & VIP Affairs). And in-between all these bits are on the spot and off the cuff interviews we had with the con goers themselves. FUN FACT: We would have called this the MTAC Omegacast, but their name for next year is MTAC Omega! So I guess we’ll have to wait until next year as well. Darn! Also, this is probably now officially our longest podcast ever. OSMnotes Sorry that we have been away so long! But rest assured, we are back and ready for action! And by action, we mean Otakon. This is the stuff! It’s BONUSPALOOZA! This time, Basil goes to digitally chill with the intrepid, dashing, and always classy Reverse Thieves on their Speakeasy podcast as we talk about Kekkaishi. You know, the greatest and most awesome shonen series you people still aren’t paying attention to! See, we know this, because we talked about this show on the OSMcast waaaaaay back in show #11. That was back in June of 2008 (holy crap we’ve been doing the OSMcast longer than I thought!), before the anime was licensed and only the manga was coming out under people’s noses. Three years later, it’s been on Hulu, Cartoon Network, and soon to DVD. NOW IS THE BEST TIME TO HOP ON THE KEKKAISHI TRAIN GUYS. JUST SAYIN’. The Reverse Thieves: Fightin' crime and bloggin' about anime and manga. OSMnotes JUST SAYIN’. I meant to get this bonus up sooner, but work intervened. And Infamous 2. And the new Zelda 3DS game. And three volumes of Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service. And a volume of 20th Century Boys. … Maybe I was lazy. (Nah!)

For those keeping track from the previous BONUS, the PSN won. :( The MTAC podcast is on it’s way, but in the meantime here’s a podcast where Basil joins the fine fellows of One Pixel Jump and talk about this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, aka E3. Listen on as they discuss the conferences, the Cheetos, the Reggies, the Vitas, the Kinects, the dramas, the _pathos _of video games. And by pathos I mean ModNation Racers, and also Dragon Quest. Because that’s what you get when you let me (and by me I mean Basil) talk about video games. OK look. ModNation Racers is awesome, and so is Dragon Quest, alright? Really, it’s s shame we never got around to doing a Dragon Quest IX podcast. Maybe one day I’ll hound down Greggo and force him to talk about it for an hour with us. Ah, dreams~

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Basil releases a podcast a week and a half late! Not only is it late, but it’s fractured, depressed husk of a glorious experimental OSMcast that failed to be realized. In other words, pretty much you get Basil, Rail, and Kevin talking about some cool stuff then we tell you all about this awesome local anime con that has now already happened. That said, most of that time was spent getting ready for the con, working said con, the recuperating after previously stated con. So anyway, roughly 20 minutes of it is worth listening to, more or less. Next time, MTAC OMNI SUPER DUPER OSMCAST!

Now let's see who gets back online first, the OSMcast! or PSN! So, unfortunately due to the nature of our producer’s job constantly sending him out of state as bookends to the natural disaster that hit Alabama, we haven’t had a chance to get our MTAC podcast mastered yet. However, Basil has also been pulling regular duty on another podcast, a video game podcast by the name of the Sestren Dreamcast. So here’s the latest of the said podcast! The best movie of 2011 you probably never saw! This podcast was in fact so angry, we had to let it cool down for an extra two weeks just so we could get it out here. It’s all about Nicolas Cage’s latest vehicle of awesomeness, Drive Angry. Always angry special guest Daryl Surat joins us for this drive-filled action packed people talking exciting episode of excitement. We talk about all sorts of things that seemed really important at the time! And quite possibly still do! OSMnotes Sadly, as it turned out that even two eeks ago, Drive Angry was already out of our local theaters. It’s a real shame. But these things do tend to come out in home media form, so when it does, you should watch this film, 3D or no! Also, Momocon has already happened, but it was fun! A good time was had by all. Next up on the OSMcast Road Show? MTAC! We’ll be present two lovely panels for your education and also possibly amusement! We’ll be rocking out with the Getting Your Anime Groove Back panel that was discussed IN THIS VERY EPISODE. And also, Anime’s Creepy Uncle, a Glance at Go Nagai, which may or may not have been mentioned, I can’t remember. Still, it’s gonna be fun. It’s gonna be crazy. It’s gonna be awesome.

Kami-Con's mascot, Kosho. Apparently the con has sister mascots, and she's the dark one. I think. The con season has already kicked into full swing and lo, we bring you once more the REAL SHIT about a recent convention, specifically Kami-Con, in the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa that happened this past weekend. So here it is, a whole lot of on the spot audio interviews. At Kami-Con. OSMnotes I swear we will have a regular podcast at some point! Really! Also, several people asked me (Basil) what clips I showed at the Pain Train at Kami-Con. I’ll probably bang out a new post with that stuff later.

PixelCon 2011 On a whim of a flight of fancy, basil decided to take a quick road trip over to Tuscaloosa to check out PixelCon: A Convention for Gamers, and see what the haps were. Is haps even used nowadays? Hmm. Well, here’s the haps anyway, straight from the con goers mouths, into a microphone, then regurgitated into mp3 format. Share and enjoy! OSMnotes Okay, so actually Rail drove Basil there, but he was too busy _actually playing video game_s instead of harassing people with a microphone. But we all know what was important here! So where will the OSMcast journey to next? Why, to Kami-Con! It’s an anime con, also in Tuscaloosa. And rumor has it, that Basil will even have panels there! It will be exciting! Adventurous! Panelriffic! It will be the haps.

OSMrobo got into the whole video game thing a little bit TOO much... It’s time to kick ass, take names, and chew some gum as the OSMcast wraps up the 2010 OSMawards with 2 hours of video game talk. Which is a lot. OSMnotes The OSMcast have been pretty busy lately! Basil guest-started on the one of the latest episodes of the Chainsaw Buffet podcast, where they did even more year in review hijinks! Although, after a total of almost 4 hours of OSMcast yearing in reviewing you’d think we would cover it all, but no. The Chainsaw guys have proven that the Basil Rock of OSM can be squeezed yet for more blood. Of awesome. And perhaps Basil will actually make use of his blog now? Well, Basil certainly has no clue, but he did churn out a post about liking Ghost Trick a lot. And as always, Lee churns out his webcomic Hazard’s Wake like a MADMAN. A hazardous madman.

According to Lee: "The blue lines aren't because I drew it on notebook paper. They are in fact the enemy robot's barrier shield that the OSMrobo is ripping through." As we all know, the first thing you do in a new year is to look back at the previous year, unless you have a decade to deal with. So to ring in 2011 we have got the first half of the 2010 OSMawards! In this just-shy-of-two-hours BEHEMOTH of a podcast we tackle the “passive” media of 2010. TV shows, movies, anime, novels, stuff you consume but don’t interact with… pretty much everything expect video games. So strap in, get some nice hot cocoa a warmin’, and listen to us yammer for a while! Bonus: And gaze up the MAJESTY that is OSMrobo that Lee drew while recording. His fists are fists of JUSTICE. Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier To finish off the year, we here at the OSMcast decided to give the gift that keeps on giving: chest puppies a podcast! In this case, we talk about Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier, from Atlus by way of Banpresto and Monolith Soft. And in the spirit of fan service, for the second half of the podcast where we actually TALK about the boobalicious video game that gives us our episode title, we’re joined by Gerald from the always awesome AWO, who got roughly five minutes warning to be on the show. That said, the only actual OSMcast player on this one is Basil, as everyone else was brought in from other podcasts. Micah Solusod Back in June at HamaCon here in Huntsville, AL we got the chance to talk to one of Funimation’s freshest talents, Micah Solusod! He’s probably best known for his work as Soul Eater Evans in Soul Eater. However he has already been in several roles, including stuff from Birdy the Mighty Decode, Big Windup!, and Corpse Princess. He recently has reopened his website which you should totally check out. Protip: When conducting podcast interviews, do not record them right beside air conditioning units. This is very important!

Some others will tell you that today is National Coming Out Day, a day of civil awareness and discourse about LGBT, in which I have discovered is NOT the acronym for Legend of the Galactic Heroes, I just always get those confused! BUT NO. Today is actually the OSMcast Releases a Podcast about RIN-NE Day! This Awesomely Recognized holiday (recognized by all human beings that like awesome things, and also puppies) is so called because today was the day we released an episode about Rumiko Takahashi’s latest manga work, RIN-NE. How exciting!

Anime Weekend Atlanta - September 17th-19th, 2010 Another year, another AWA. Another AWA, another podcast about AWA! So here is our con-report on Anime Weekend Atlanta 16, recorded late late Saturday night in our secret lair within the confines of the Renaissance Waverly Hotel. It covers Friday and Saturday since at the time of recording, Sunday hadn’t even officially happened yet! We are joined by the most dapper of gentlemen that are the Chainsaw Buffet podcast. Then at 4 in one of Panel Rooms (Galleria 104) we’ll be hosting the AWA Wild World of Sports (Anime). I bet you’ll never be able to tell what we are talking about! Of course, we _could _be making surprise appearances at other panels. Say for example at 3:30 on Saturday in Kennesaw there is a Podcaster roundtable, and we just happen to be a podcast! That podcasts a lot about anime! Hmmm! And also on Saturday earlier at 1:00 in Galleria 104 there is a Con DJing 101 panel, and we happen to have a DJ on deck, who tends to spin at anime cons… HMMMM. And, as always, one can never tell when Basil is going to assault random con goers with microphones. Good times!

Black Jack. He's a REAL DOCTOR. For this episode of the OSMcast_!_ we decided to tangle with Osamu Tezuka’s Black Jack, being released by Vertical. But frankly the dark doctor was more than we could handle alone, so we had to call in some back up. Who in the world could save us? None other than Clarissa from the Anime World Order podcast! I just wanted an excuse to post this amazing poster. For one, we’ll be hosting an Engrish Jamboree. Yeah, a whole panel of Japanese people trying to speaking English and failing spectacularly. It’s incredibly politically correct! And THEN, or perhaps before (I have no clue which panel comes first), we’ll he hosting AWA’s Wide World of Sports (Anime). In case you haven’t figured it out yet, it’s a panel on sports anime, and why it’s awesome. And if you disagree, why you’re WRONG. And speaking of being wrong, the Expendables was awesome and you like stuff being blown up, shot at, or stabbed and hearing wonderfully horrendous dialog you should have already seen it. Oh wait, I guess everyone already did. So uh, go see Scott Pilgrim! Apparently no one has gotten around to doing that yet.

Truly, only on the master system that is the PS3 can one truly enjoy the Spirit of the Drift™. It’s a veritable two for one interview bonanza here on the OSMcast as we interview not one, but _two _awesome voice actors at once while we were hanging out at this year’s MTAC. Travis is probbaly best known for his work as Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist: (Nazi-verse as well as the superior Brotherhood persuasion) and Guile from Street Fighter IV. Not be out done, Laura played the role of Lust in the Fullmetal Moneymakers as well as Chun-li fom Street Fighter IV.

Gekiga: The Other White Meat, if Meat was Manga, and not Meat After going two months, almost to the day, of not having a podcast with an actual date in the title, we bring it back old school with a podcast about something really old school. We speak of a most super-hyper-mega-awesome manga A Drifting Life, by Yoshihiro Tatsumi: A Drifting Life. It’s his auto-biography, but done in manga form. Since you know, he creates manga and all. But seriously, make sure you get A Drifting Life. The manga is an inspiring work, and anyone with a love for manga is sure to come away a better person for having read it. A work like this is honestly an incredibly rare treat for us, and something that everyone should indulge themselves in. Because sometimes even webcomics needs a shot of espresso. And if you are interested in reading things like online comics, Eric and Lee have kicked off a brand new webcomic called Affogato Style. And if you are not, then uh… Go anyway. It’s got coffee, and explosions, and sometimes, it’s even funny. *Since manga doesn’t exactly have a soundtrack, our stupendous soundman picked out some tracks for the breaks. And lo and behold, it’s another roundtable episode! We had some really good feedback the last time we did it, so we’ve decided to keep doing them whenever we think up a topic we can round about at a table. So we decided to finally dust off our interview from Ohayocon 10 and present to you The Life and Times of Carl Gustav Horn, Dark Horse’s most baddass manga editor. the man has worked on such titles as the manga version of Neon Genesis Evangelion, The Shinji Ikari Raising Project, Clover, and others. He talks to us on how he got started in the industry, he thoughts on the importance of buying anime and manga in the US, and more. Spike Spencer What’s this?! A bonus episode out of nowhere?! Say it ain’t so! This podcast about the movie adaptation of the manga both written and directed by Katsuhiro Otomo is _both _multi-faceted _and _enjoyable no matter what the circumstances might be! It’s not like this movie hasn’t been talked to death or anything! OSMnotes So after recording this podcast and looking where one might want to pick this movie up, we discovered that while the Blu-ray edition is plentiful and can be bought most anywhere, Bandai (via their Honneamise label) never bothered to release an equivalent DVD version. That means the last DVD version of Akira made on DVD was the Geneon Signature Series one released in 2004. Hey remember these guys? Yeah, that’s right. Geneon. On the plus side Right Stuf has it for cheap! Or you could also start buying the manga, as Kodansha has resumed publishing rights the manga series and has put out the first volume, with the rest being released in 2010. After talking about Black Lion and Brutal Legend we felt, “Why stop here?” So we decided to watched what on it’s DVD box cover proclaims as “The most violent, action packed animated film of all time!” And that is the 1986 anime film adaptation of Fist of the North Star by Tetsuo Hara and Buronson. OSMnotes Savvy shoppers can find this DVD pretty easily for around $20-25. If you want to watch the TV show, you can stream it. All 152 episodes. And from what we hear, it is very entertaining. As long as people exploding in amazing fashion along with equally amazing 80’s fashion is your thing (How can that NOT?!}. You may also consider on picking up Nostalgia, if the idea of a classic turn-based J-RPG on the go sounds appealing to you. Which you _should _find compelling, because it’s awesome. While a day late and a dollar short, the OSMcast_!_ returns with some _slightly _less than hot off the presses podcasting action! Since the latest season of anime hitting Japan pretty much blows, we’ve discovered that we’ve ended up playing a lot more video games than usual! So we took the whole Moment of OSM/Whatcha Been Playing segment into the entire podcast. ISN’T THIS EXCITING!?! In the end we talk the most about Brutal Legend, but we cover the bases from Uncharted 2 to Phantasy Star IV and a whole bunch inbetween. Old, new, we don’t care! Dou(gai)jin Recordings CD 001: Renegade Remix Force If the music in this podcast pleased you, perhaps you should make your way to Dou(gai)jin Recordings, where the music came from. We talk about them here from time to time, because they are awesome and people do not talk about them enough. They passed out CDs to the con goers at AWA, and should be uploading their latest said CD online sometime soon. Hell, I dunno either! This latest podcast is all about the anime con that just happened. It’s called Anime Weekend Atlanta. It was pretty awesome. And so here are two nightcap sessions we recorded on Friday and Saturday night. Aside from the usual crew of OSM Central, we also have our ever-present buddies over at Akihabra Renditions. And add that extra something with just adding Basil won’t cut it, Chad Bonin of GaijINside on Friday’s section and Niko of MTAC and GMX fame on Saturday’s section. Oh! And some guy named Dusty who happened to be on the room Friday night. We get the BIG NAMES here folks! MAJOR SCREW UP: And once again, we apologize for mixing up names on the first half. When we say Rikki Simons, we actually meant Jonathan Tarbox. These two gentlemen are both awesome guys and we feel bad for mixing up names. We blame the fact that it was really late at night. Because honestlt, Tarbox is a freakishly amazing name and I have no idea how we could forget such name. I mean, Tarbox. Man. OSMnotes Do you? AWA was amazingly awesome! Most excellent panel shout outs go out to Drew, Richard, and Dave Merrill for the great Classic Mecha panel. Clarissa’s Blackjack panel was also kickass, and major thanks for joining us for the Podcaster’s Roundtable. Gerald’s History of Hentai and AIC ( Darius was awesome too!) panels were wondrous. And, of course, I do in fact Believe in Daryl Surat. Helen McCarthy’s Unknown Tezuka Panel was illuminating. Carl Horn’s and Jonathan “Completely not Rikki Simons” Tarbox’s State of the Manga Industry was excitingly candid. And any other panels I’m not thinking of, were also probably amazing. I'd like to say Rail took the picture at this angle. So I will. … Like Vertical’s which has helped me start working on my Xmas list. See, there was just too much stuff to remember it all. Speaking of the Podcaster’s Round table, I know one or two new podcast start-ups were there talking to us after the panel was over. EMAIL US. Basil commands this! It is [email protected]. From our long and toilsome journey into the VERY HEART OF GEEK MEDIA MAYHEM we bring you, dear listeners, the SEEDY UNDERBELLY of the BEAST known as DRAGON*CON. But only 20 minutes of it. OSMnotes AWA IS THIS WEEK HOLY SHIT. SO NOT READY. So anyway, the OSMcast is going BACK to Atlanta this weekend for Anime Weekend Atlanta! I’m sure we’ll running amok wherever we go, but we’ll definitely be crashing the podcast panel again, and possibly a Gundam panel (since it will be hosted by some guys we know). And I’m pretty sure we’ll be going to these panels. Because by god SOMEONE HAS TO We’ll probably will be submitting some panels ourselves for next year, but this year there just wasn’t time. BUT! In theory we’ll be wearing our brand new OSMcast T-Shirts, but that’s only if the printer found our shirts. Also our pals at Dou(gai)jin Recordings are releasing their newest CD! For free! And while we say pals, the truth is that two of the members are in fact DJ Inubito and Basil.* Our intrepid beatsmith provided a wonderfully oonst-a-riffic rendition of a Blaster Master theme while Basil banged his head at a computer until a cover design came out. So keep an eye out for that! And although AWA will most likely be our last convention stop this year, that doesn’t mean there aren’t cons that YOU should miss out on! The question should be not What is GMX? It should be, Why not GMX? For those that like Nashville and the whole Tennessee shebang, there’s GMX. It should be exciting, new, shiny, and all around fun! We want to go, they want us to go, but previously planned things like college and weddings and whatnot get in the way. So instead, YOY SHOULD GO. And for the Georgia side, there’s Nerdacon! We had a chance to meet them at Dragon*Con, and they seem like they know how to have a good time. So if you can swing that, it’d be swell. Giant robots and signs with the letter N just go well together. And speaking of people we met at Dragon*Con, Basil had the chance to be on a future video podcast episode by Channel Z. They read Naruto fanfiction until they could read no more. (As it turns out, it’s about an hour’s worth.) As soon as they get that out, we’ll let you know. And of course, email us! Call us! Comment! So this CD is really just crammed with delicious OSM.
