TRENT PRESZLER | Little and Often Soon Becomes Great
EAs many of you know, in January of this year, my oldest son and I started building a canoe. As we embarked upon this project, many of you introduced me on Instagram to a professional boat builder named @trentpreszler. Fortunately, Trent and I built a relationship as he shared with me some of his own successes and failures. And, when I found out he had a new book coming out called, Little and Often, I knew that I needed to have him on the podcast. Today, Trent and I talk about why he decided to build a canoe with the tools his dad left him, what the canoe symbolizes and how important it has been throughout the history of the world, why we place our fathers on pedestals they don't belong, becoming your own man, why our scars are important, and how little and often soon becomes great. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Taking pride in building a boat Being part of a long history A symbol of self-reliance Feeling a sense of value Leading to extraordinary On the road to freedom Finding purpose in your life Getting back to the adventure Knowing where you came from The pedestal of fatherhood Having empathy toward your father Plowing through uncertainty Feeling a sense of belonging Adding up to a man Forging your own identity Becoming more than a side hustle TRENT PRESZLER My guest today is a man I was introduced to by many of you when I began our canoe-building project in January of this year. His name is @trentpreszler and he is a professional boat builder. Many of you have probably seen his works of art (I call them that because they're absolutely beautiful) which are actually tools that men have been utilizing for thousands of years to improve their station in life. Trent is the CEO of Bedell Cellars, a winery in Long Island, New York but in 2014 he began a new path as he built his first canoe with his rancher father's tools. Since then, Trent has been building beautiful luxury canoes which, admittedly, is not a path he thought he would find himself on. Trent has become a friend of mine and someone who is extremely insightful. And, as strange as it may sound, I believe we were destined in a way to connect. JACK CARR | The Devil's Hand
EOne of my favorite podcast guests and friends is back on the podcast today. His name is Jack Carr, former Navy SEAL and the author of the James Reece series with his latest book just released called The Devil's Hand. Today, Jack and I talk about the differences between a calling and a career, dealing with discouragement from others, the conditioning that takes place in society and how to overcome it, Joseph Campbell's, The Hero's Journey, and how to utilize it in your own life. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Prioritizing opportunity Creating powerful relationships Career versus profession Preparing to be an author Making things possible Working with Chris Pratt Your next calling in life Getting into character The power of social media Getting the job done Dealing with internet trolls JACK CARR As I mentioned previously, my guest today is the one and only Jack Carr. I met Jack years ago when we had a podcast during the release of his first book after retiring as a Navy SEAL. I could tell you a bunch about his books and how successful he is but what you may not know is he's one of the most genuine men you'll meet. He invited me into his home, introduced me to his beautiful family, and broke bread with me like we were old friends. And, since then, we have become friends and it's been incredible to see him become so successful as an author with one of his books being filmed right now with Chris Pratt playing the role of James Reece (which we talk a bit about in this podcast). PREPARING FOR DESTRUCTION It's no surprise to you that the last 12 months or so have been…eventful, to say the least. That's why with as many variables that we, as men, are likely to face, it's crucial that we be prepared for whatever may come. After all, David Gilmore said, "The real man gains renown by standing between his family and destruction absorbing the blows of fate with equanimity." And, that's exactly what we're talking about in the Iron Council this month. We're learning, discussing, and challenging each other to become more prepared for emergencies, natural disasters, violent encounters, and anything else we may potentially run against. If you want to learn more about being prepared and banding with men who will teach you and hold you accountable for doing so, join us in our exclusive brotherhood, the Iron Council by going to www.orderofman.com/ironcouncil. JACK DONOVAN | Men and Gods
EMy guest today is the one and only Jack Donovan. I've been honored to get to know him over the past several years and much of what he has shared regarding men and masculinity has shaped my own personal perspective of how we are to show up as fathers, husbands, and leaders in our business and community. Today, we talk about his latest book, Fire in the Dark. We also do a deep dive into the roles of masculinity, individual responsibility, the heroic ideal, and why we as men look to the Gods and what we can learn from them. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Writing about men's issues Adding value to others Different voices for different ears What defines masculinity The eternal truths Biological constructs Rational division of labor Gender theory studies The slippery-slope fallacy Taking over a culture Learning to be technical Identifying weakness Settling for mediocrity Self-imposed shackles The collapse of Moral consensus Forming a responsible opinion JACK DONOVAN As I said earlier, my guest today is none other than Jack Donovan. Fortunately, I've gotten to know Jack over the past several years and we've spent a lot of time talking about masculinity and what it means to be a man. I was introduced to his work years ago when I read, The Way of Men, and since then, I've been fascinated with his interesting and unique perspectives, and his willingness to share what have only increasingly become polarizing thoughts and ideas. Jack is an extremely fascinated man and has caused me to take a hard look at what I perceive as the responsibilities of men, what it means to be a man, and how we can and should show up in the world. You guys are really going to enjoy this one. PREPARING FOR A DISASTER I think most of us pride ourselves on being prepared to deal with what life has to offer us. After all, it was Douglas Wilson who said, "The real man gains renown by standing between his family and destruction, absorbing the blows of fate with equanimity." But the question remains, "Are you really prepared for what may come your way?" That's the question we're working to answer this month in our exclusive brotherhood, The Iron Council. We'll be discussing and challenging each other to focus on the priorities of preparedness, shoring up our weaknesses, and holding each other accountable to put ourselves and our families in a better position should disaster strike. And, on top of all that, you'll get the accountability, guidance, and direction when you band with us inside the Iron Council. To get prepared for whatever life may throw at you and to unlock access to the accountability needed to thrive, learn more and join us at www.orderofman.com/ironcouncil. RENER GRACIE | Comfort in Chaos
EAs many of you know, several years ago, I immersed myself in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and, frankly, it's been one of the best things I've done for myself in my entire life. And, today, I am joined by a man who has done a tremendous job in getting the art to the masses by codifying a system of learning Jiu-Jitsu that has trained and developed tens of thousands of martial artists. His name is @renergracie, a 4th-degree black belt, the grandson of Helio Gracie, and the founder and chief instructor of Gracie University. We talk about the system he and his brother created, the differences between sport BJJ and combat BJJ, building legacies, training our police force to handle themselves, and how to develop a level of comfort in chaos. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS The starting point of Jiu-Jitsu Becoming the exception Knowing when to strike Doing things the right way The only fight that matters A product of savagery Cracking the code The art of violence The Police Disappointment Gap Spreading the word The Bully-Proof program Enforcing boundaries Expressing dissatisfaction Understanding the consequences RENER GRACIE My guest today is Rener Gracie. He is the grandson of the man who brought Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to America, Helio Gracie. He is a 4th-degree black belt and is the founder and lead instructor of Gracie University where he has instructed thousands of men, women, and children in the art of BJJ. He's also extremely innovative and forward-thinking and has created programs specifically designed for law enforcement, women, and children (through their Gracie Bullyproof program). In addition, he trains many top-level fighters including UFC's Brian Ortega. Needless to say, the man knows what he's doing and he comes from a long line of very capable and proficient tacticians. ACCOUNTABILITY Most of the men who join our exclusive brotherhood, the Iron Council, do so to gain some level of accountability. In fact, that is one of the main reasons I started the organization. But with as many men who are looking for some level of accountability from the programs, masterminds, and brotherhoods, they participate in, few offer as much accountability as we have built into the Iron Council. When you band with us, not only will you get access to the 820+ men who belong to the Iron Council but you'll also have the opportunity to join a Battle Team of 15 men who will hold your feet to the fire. And, with the addition of our new Battle Planning App (included in membership), you'll have the metrics and data needed to achieve at every aspect of your life. ETHAN SUPLEE | American Glutton
EMy guest today is Ethan Suplee. You may know him from his acting roles on Remember the Titans, American History X, and Without a Paddle. But if you saw him today, you likely wouldn't recognize him. That's because he's transformed not only his physical appearance but every element of his life. Today, we talk about his journey to lose over 250 pounds, what it's like to be severely obese in Hollywood and how many people had a vested interest in him being unhealthy, why who you listen to is so crucial on your self-development journey, adding meaning to challenging self-work, and overcoming a sense of complete powerlessness. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Choosing your perspective Being seen as the "fat guy" Avoiding the attention Living an active lifestyle Admitting powerlessness Going to the extreme Confronting your bad habits Finding moderation Crawling out of a hole Living with intention Experimenting with new things ETHAN SUPLEE My guest today is none other than Hollywood Actor, husband, father, and host of the American Glutton Podcast, Ethan Suplee. Many of you have seen Ethan in Remember the Titans, Butterfly Effect, American History X, Without a Paddle, and so many more movies but, more recently, he's gained a lot of visibility and attention by embarking on his own health journey by losing over 250 pounds and, frankly, getting jacked. I really enjoyed this podcast because Ethan is such a humble person and he's taken his years and years of struggle and not only used it as fuel for his own life but fuel for helping others transform themselves primarily through his podcast, American Glutton. MADISON CAWTHORN | Uncompromising Values and Service
EToday I am joined by an incredible man who just so happens to be the youngest U.S Congressman. His name is Madison Cawthorn and he's gained a ton of attention over the past several months for, first, his powerful speech at the Republican National Convention and, more recently, his floor speech on 2nd Amendment Rights. Today, Congressman Cawthorn and I talk about how he views his disability (he is partially paralyzed from a crash he was in years ago) and his masculinity, what he feels is our civic duty to get involved in politics and important topics, the power of words and using them effectively to create change and hope, the danger of the fatherless home crisis we're in, uncompromising values, and so much more… SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Determining what's worthy of attention Getting involved in office Connecting issues to daily life Overcoming discouragement Pushing for term limits Speaking to the American ethos What it means to be a man Supporting good policy The belief in yourself Feeling completely useless Taking care of your family Having a network of guys Dropping out of college Proving your competence Getting rid of the nuclear family Equity Vs. Equality MADISON CAWTHORN Gentlemen, my guest today is a man that likely needs no introduction for many of you. At 25, he is currently the youngest U.S. Congressman but, as we talk about in this conversation, he does not let that keep him from throwing himself into some of the most important (and polarizing) discussions in politics today. What's even more impressive is that in 2014, his life plans came to a halt as he found himself a survivor of a car accident that left him partially paralyzed. After scrapping his plans to attend the Naval Academy, he found his way into politics as a way to serve in spite of not being able to join the military. Gentlemen, this was a very powerful conversation with a man who had a lot of reason to quit in life but has, instead, decided to make the most of his circumstances and become a force to be reckoned with. IRON COUNCIL By now, you've heard all about our exclusive brotherhood, the Iron Council. One thing that you may not know is that each and every month, we focus on a topic to better equip ourselves as men with the tools and resources we need to succeed and thrive. And, for the month of April, we're going to be talking all about being prepared. If this is something that has been on your mind, join us inside the Iron Council as we all work to better equip and inoculate ourselves against tragic, difficult, and unfortunate life events. ROBERT GREENE | The Laws of Power and Human Nature
EIf only more of us, as men, learned more about the laws of power and the dynamics of human nature, we'd be able to lead others more effectively. Unfortunately, many men believe that even exploring these concepts is an immoral pursuit. And, although they can be used to hurt others, they can also be used to fulfill our responsibilities to protect, provide, and preside. Today, I am joined by multiple New York Times Bestselling Author, Robert Greene to talk about the negative stigma that comes with power and human nature dynamics. We also cover embracing weirdness, what he refers to as "power games," how life isn't always a win-win, why so many people have incorporated whining as a tactic for power, and why manipulation isn't inherently wrong. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS The "Crisis Generation" Finding middle ground Dealing with Woke Culture Painful opportunities and lessons Why parents have become so afraid How resistance makes you tougher Influencing people Not taking things personally The Manipulative Side of humans Getting what you want Changing other opinions Virtue signaling as a strategy The human desire for power Gain at the expense of another Becoming more enlightened Asymmetric warfare Operating outside a moral code ROBERT GREENE My guest today is the one and only Robert Greene. Needless to say, his writings and teaching have inspired much discussion and controversy about the laws of human nature and how to harness them effectively. He is the author of many books including The 48 Laws of Power, The Art of Seduction, Mastery, and The Laws of Human Nature. And, for over 25 years, he's been researching, studying, and sharing lessons about how people behave and why they do what they do. This one was a very enlightening discussion and gave me some tremendous insight into not only how Robert's mind works, but other humans as well. IRON COUNCIL Gents, obviously, we've been talking a lot about how humans behave and, along those same lines, I've found that one of the things we, as men, crave most is other men who are willing and able to walk shoulder to shoulder with us in life. Of course, there is the camaraderie of brotherhood but the accountability that comes from surrounding yourself with successful men cannot be overstated. That's why the Iron Council, our exclusive brotherhood, is so powerful. Inside the Iron Council, you'll unlock access to the network of men you can count on to push, teach, mentor, and band with you. And, you'll also find the framework needed to thrive in a world that continues to grow more complex and competitive by the day. EDDIE PENNEY | Living Unafraid
EWe live in some interesting times, to say the least. Coronavirus, the reaction to Coronavirus, political unrest, freezing temperatures across the country, riots, and so much more. Today, I am joined by former Navy SEAL, Eddie Penney to talk about living life unafraid. He's an absolutely incredible human being and has proven himself to be a tremendous asset in the military, to his children, and in later founding the Contingent Group which is an organization designed to provide safety and security needs for people and organizations domestically and internationally. THE IRON COUNCIL I ask every new member of our exclusive brotherhood, the Iron Council, why they decided to band with us, and, overwhelmingly, it boils down to accountability. Accountability just isn't something many men seem to be getting in any other capacity of life. But inside of the Iron Council, we have developed the systems and strategies for maximum accountability to other high-achieving men and, more importantly, accountability to yourself. And, we've found that when a man learns how to harness the power of accountability, he is able to be much more productive, effective, and fulfilled in every other area of his life. Accountability fills the void that many men experience in their lives. So, if you're looking to harness the power of accountability in your life, we invite you to join us in the Iron Council at www.orderofman.com/ironcouncil. He wrote Braveheart, Man in the Iron Mask, Pearl Harbor, and We Were Soldiers among many other incredible motion pictures, many of which he produced and directed and has won several Academy Awards. He is an insanely talented individual – far beyond what I knew when we agreed to do a podcast together – and he is deeply reflective and insightful around the subject of men and masculinity. You guys are going to really enjoy this conversation. It was incredibly powerful and inspiring for me. IRON COUNCIL Gentlemen, very quickly, I wanted to introduce you to the Iron Council if you're not already familiar. Randall and I have talked a bit about in this conversation the power of brotherhood and finding other men who are qualified to be in your corner. Inside the Iron Council, there are over 800 men who are all like-minded and working towards the same goals and objectives. These are incredibly motivated and ambitious men and they have not only the desire to succeed but to help all the men inside the Iron Council do the same. TIM KENNEDY | To Protect and Preserve Human Life
EMy guest today likely needs no introduction. His name is Tim Kennedy and he is one of the most interesting men on the planet. I had the opportunity to talk with Tim remotely years ago but to be able to sit down with him at his home was one of my favorite opportunities since I started podcasting over six years ago. We get into a lot during our discussion together including his plans to replace traditional education with something that will serve our sons and daughters much better, why he believes there are forms of "toxic masculinity" in society, his thoughts on some sort of "mandatory military service," why his wife completely believes in him, and his personal mission to protect and preserve human life. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Apogee Acadamy and Apogee Strong Becoming an FBI profiler The lies about masculinity Lowering the standard Thoughts on mandatory service Fostering culture and commitment To protect and preserve human life How failure impacts us physiologically Finding growth in physical pain A wife's undying support Stepping into the cage TIM KENNEDY As I said earlier, my guest today is the one and only Tim Kennedy and he is one of the baddest men on the planet. He is an Army Ranger Green Beret, a former UFC fighter, and, among so many other things, he is in the process of opening a school that will teach young men and women in ways that are much more conducive to their overall success. On top of all that, Tim is extremely thoughtful and insightful and has always provided me with a new and/or deeper way of looking at my role as a man. Men, you are really going to enjoy this conversation. I know that I did. CRAFTING THE PERFECT DAY It doesn't matter what your goals are if you can't craft a strategy for attacking the day that moves you systematically toward the completion of those goals. And, inside our exclusive brotherhood, the Iron Council, we are talking about exactly this – crafting the perfect day – for the month of February. The truth is that I've spent years of my life floundering around wondering how I was going to make something of myself. To a degree, I believed that when it was meant to happen, it just would. It wasn't until I was introduced to several mentors who explained to me the importance of a powerful morning routine, certain strategies, tactics, and tools to use throughout the day, and how to perfectly recap your day in order to carry the momentum over that I begin to realize what I set out to accomplish. If you're interested in learning those exact strategies and formulas that I learned years ago, please join me in the Iron Council at www.orderofman.com/ironcouncil. EVAN HAFER | A Conversation Amongst Men
EYou know, I've spent the last six years trying to formulate the perfect conversation and keep it within a certain topic. But the more I have conversations with incredible guests like mine today, the more I realize that a real conversation goes where it goes and isn't confined to a particular topic. So, when I had the opportunity to sit down with Evan Hafer, founder of Black Rifle Coffee Company, I realized there was tremendous value in letting the conversation go where it wanted to go. We talked about archery, his recent controversy with both the right and left side of the political spectrum, how to lead and manage well, racism, pop culture, and just about everything in between. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Getting into archery Fist adaptive athlete archery shoot Struggling in business Trying not to focus on the negative Getting through trauma The ego-driven mentality Applying communication differently Dictators Vs. Leaders Being the "nice guys" Having productive arguments Communicating your brand Protecting free speech at all cost Big governments "one size fits all" solution The path of least resistance Adding value to other men Being the maximum version of yourself Flexing the creative muscles Earning confidence Recalling the miserable times Improving things locally EVAN HAFER My guest today is the one and only Evan Hafer. Of course, you likely know that he is the founder and CEO of the leading Veteran-Owned coffee roastery, Black Rifle Coffee Company. But he's also a former Green Beret and a hardened badass. I had the opportunity to sit down with Evan at his ranch in San Antonio and although I'm sure there are preconceived notions about who he is, this man is a marketing genius and has, in a period of six years grown his company from roasting coffee out of the back of a Humvee to an international brand that employs over 400 people - many of who are United States Combat Veterans. I think you gentlemen are going to dig this conversation that we, fortunately, got to do in-person on his ranch in Texas. I enjoyed the hell out of this conversation. You will too. CRAFTING THE PERFECT DAY Gentlemen, inside the Iron Council, for the month of February, we're going to talking about and challenging each other to create and formulate our perfect day. Of course, "the perfect day," is subjective but we're going to be holding each other accountable for the entire month to testing and experimenting with systems, strategies, tools, and resources to maximize each day to its fullest – from the time we wake up, to the way we go about our duties, to the way we cap the day to carry momentum over to the next. The reality is that each of us can squeeze more productivity out of every hour that we have and it's our goal inside the Iron Council to show you how to do exactly that through accountability, teaching, instruction, and brotherhood. BEDROS KEUILIAN | Be a Man, Be The Man
EIn popular culture, it's increasingly frowned upon to utter the phrases, "man up," or "be a man." It's easy to misconstrue what those terms mean and convenient to dismiss them as some sort of misguided sense of masculinity. Without context, anything can be painted as negative or "toxic." With context, however, we can see how powerful those statements can be. My guest and friend, Bedros Keuilian, is back on the podcast to dissect what those phrases mean and teach us how we can incorporate solid principles in our lives and in the lives of the young men looking to us for an example. We talk about the value of harvesting your own provisions, why brutally honest feedback is crucial to your success, losing and regaining your sense of purpose, and our responsibility to the generations of men who will follow in our footsteps. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Fit Body Bootcamp Squire Program Multiple income streams Donating to the Shiners Seeking fulfillment Feeling like an imposter Being crippled by convenience Valuing what you harvest The responsibility of parents How you show up matters Figuring out the needs of people Receiving brutally honest feedback Why consequences matter The lack of commitment Turning off social media The "outraged" economy The loss of balance Losing your sense of purpose Becoming a role model BEDROS KEUILIAN Gentlemen, I have been looking forward to having Bedros Keuilian join us again on the podcast. I met Bedros years ago and I'm honored to call him a mentor and friend. I was fortunate enough to have him invite me to speak at one of his programs a couple of weeks ago and, although you may know him for founding and running one of the largest fitness franchises in the world, you may not know about his programs for men and for young men. These are transformation events and I'm honored to have played just a very small part in what this incredible man is doing in the lives of the men and young men who attend his events. Bedros is an author, entrepreneur, speaker, podcast host of Empire Podcast, and an absolutely incredible man, friend, and mentor. CRAFTING THE PERFECT DAY I'm a huge believer that the way you tee yourself up for the day will determine your results for the day. And, as you compound enough of those powerful days together, you will undoubtedly win. That said, there are a lot of men (you might be one of them) who don't know how to craft the day from the minute they wake up to the minute their heads hit the pillow at night for maximum productivity and efficiency. That's why, for the month of February, we're talking about this exact topic inside our exclusive brotherhood, the Iron Council. We're going to be talking about starting the day right, tools and systems for eliminating distractions, recapping your day so you don't lose momentum each night, and so much more. So, if you want the tools, systems, and accountability to make each day your best and, more importantly, create the success that follows, join us inside the Iron Council at www.orderofman.com/ironcouncil.
