Ep 268Holidays 2023- Happy Easter, Passover and Ramadan

bonus

In this Bonus Episode we're going to talk a little bit about three major religious celebrations that happen around the world. This year is unique as it is the second year in a row that Passover, Easter Sunday, and Ramadan will occur during the same weekend. I'm your host, Michael Herst, Diane is taking a little break while we celebrate the holiday….welcome to One More Thing Before You Go.Typically, this event happens three times a century or once every 33 years. These celebrations may differ in their religious significance, but they all have one thing in common – they bring people together to celebrate and find joy in their shared traditions. Let's explore the benefits and joys of these celebrations!Passover, which this year started in the evening Wednesday, Apr 5, 2023, and runs through- the evening of Thu, Apr 13, 2023, is a Jewish celebration that commemorates the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt. It is a time for reflection and remembrance, but also a time for celebration. Families come together for the Seder meal, where they retell the story of the Exodus and enjoy traditional foods such as matzah and charoset. Passover teaches us the value of freedom and the importance of standing up against oppression and injustice.Easter which falls on Sunday April 9, 2023, is a Christian celebration that commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is a time for reflection, repentance, and renewal. But Easter is also a time of joy and celebration. Families come together to enjoy traditional foods like hot cross buns and Easter eggs, and children participate in Easter egg hunts, which is always a fun time. Easter reminds us to appreciate the rebirth and renewal of nature as well, bringing us closer to our communities.Ramadan which begin in the evening on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 and ends on Thursday, April 20, 2023is a Muslim celebration that is observed by fasting from dawn to dusk for an entire month. It is a time for spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and charitable acts. Despite the physical challenges of fasting, Ramadan is also a time of joy and celebration. Families come together to break their fasts with traditional meals such as dates and sweet drinks, and the night-time Taraweeh prayers are a spiritual experience shared by Muslims worldwide.Celebrating religious holidays such as Easter, Ramadan, and Passover can bring us together as a community, create a sense of belonging, and provide us with moments of joy and reflection. They teach us about the values of love, compassion, and forgiveness, reminding us that we are all connected, and we can all celebrate our differences. As we celebrate the holiday ourselves. We wish you a happy holiday and hope that you could spend it with family and friends. and One More Thing Before You Go… Have a great day, have a great week and thanks for watching! Ep 259The Fableman's: A Spielberg Storytelling Masterpiece - A Film Review

In this episode of Over The Teacup Sunday, we're going to wrap up what we could accomplish with our limited series about the 2023 Oscar nominated films and talent. Today we're going to explore The Fablemans, the 2023 Oscar nominated film produced and directed by Steven Spielberg. This film is loosely based on Spielberg's childhood and is the story of Sammy Fabelman, as a young man from seven to eighteen. Through Sammy's journey, we discover a shattering family secret, a true purpose in life to create movies, and the power of those movies to help us see the truth about each other and ourselves. The Fablemans is produced and directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg. Starring Michelle Williams, Gabriel LaBelle, Paul Dano, and Judd Hirsch, this film is a loose adaptation of Spielberg's childhood growing up in post-World War II era Arizona and how he moved to California changed everything. The film steeped in nostalgia and emotion. Set in post-World War II Arizona, we follow a young man named Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel LaBelle) as he discovers a shocking family secret. We follow him through his childhood, adolescence and young adulthood as he explores the power of films and how they can help us to understand the truth about ourselves and each other. It is not an easy task, as he faces daily bullying from his classmates and a strained relationship with his parents. Through it all, he finds solace in the movies he watches, finding an escape in the stories and characters that he watches on the big screen. The performances from the cast are simply outstanding. Michelle Williams and Paul Dano both give nuanced and heartfelt performances as Sammy's parents, while Gabriel LaBelle captures the wide-eyed innocence of Sammy as he navigates through his own personal journey. Judd Hirsch is a standout as Sammy’s Grandfather, but the entire cast is excellent, but it's LaBelle who truly stands out among the rest. The younger Sammy is played by Mateo Zoryan, his sisters through the years are played by Keeley Karsten, Alina Brace, Julie Butters, and Birdie Borria and they all do a brilliant job! The Fablemans explores the importance of family secrets and how the power of movies can help us to come to terms with them. Overall, this movie is a powerful and moving film that will leave you thinking and feeling. The performances of the actors, the beautiful cinematography, and the examination of the power of movies makes this an incredible film that captures the pain, anguish, and joy of growing up, as well as the power of friendship, love, and family and it should not be missed. https://beforeyougopodcast.comThis podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podcorn - https://podcorn.com/privacy

Austin Butler’s portrayal of Elvis is nothing short of brilliant. His performance captures the essence of Elvis – the music, the energy, the charisma. He is supported by a talented cast that includes Tom Hanks as Col. Ep 255The Banshees of Inisherin & All Quiet on the Western Front-Oscars 2023

In this episode of Over the Teacup Sunday, we take a look at two of the most talked-about movies which have won a plethora of film awards across the world, All Quiet on the Western Front a third remake of the critically acclaimed film, and part two The Banshees of Inishiren a 2022 tragicomedy directed, written, and co-produced by Martin McDonagh…. welcome to the show as we continue to take a deep dive into the world of 2023 Oscar nominated films and talent. Today…The Banshees of Inisherin isa 2022 tragicomedy film directed, written, and co-produced by Martin McDonagh. Starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as two lifelong friends who find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends the relationship. The movie received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising McDonagh's sharp writing and the performances of Farrell and Gleeson, while others found the film to be overly dark and muddled in its tone. However, most agree that The Banshees of Inisherin follows their relationship to a dramatic breaking point and alarming consequences for both of them; Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan also star. In my opinion is a unique and thought-provoking film that tackles serious themes with humor and heart. The story itself is a mixture of comedy and tragedy, and McDonagh navigates these tonal shifts with skill and confidence. The film deals with themes of grief, regret, and the complexity of human relationships, and it does so with both humor and pathos. Celebrated for its complex display of friendship, life on a remote island and depression at its peak. The Banshees of Inisherin is an unforgettable exploration of friendship, loyalty and the consequences of actions. The story itself is a mixture of comedy and tragedy, and McDonagh navigates these tonal shifts with skill and confidence. The film deals with themes of grief, regret, and the complexity of human relationships, and it does so with both humor and pathos."All Quiet on the Western Front" is a powerful and moving film that depicts the brutal realities of war through the eyes of a young German soldier named Paul Baumer (played by Felix Kammerer). Directed by Edward Berger, the film is an adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque's classic anti-war novel of the same name and has been nominated for several Oscars. The film takes us through the harrowing journey of Baumer and his fellow soldiers as they are sent to fight on the frontlines of World War I. The horrors of war are shown in all their starkness, from the deafening sound of artillery and machine gun fire to the relentless physical and mental exhaustion of the soldiers. Berger's direction and cinematography capture the devastating impact of war on both soldiers and civilians alike, leaving the audience deeply affected. Kammerer delivers a standout performance as Baumer, capturing the character's transformation from a naïve and enthusiastic recruit to a traumatized and disillusioned soldier. He portrays the physical and emotional toll of war with a rawness and intensity that is both moving and alarming. The supporting cast also delivers strong performances, particularly Sebastian Hülk as the grizzled veteran Katczinsky and Tobias Moretti as the sympathetic and conflicted Kantorek. The ensemble cast works together seamlessly to create a powerful and emotional depiction of the bond between soldiers and the impact of war on their lives. "All Quiet on the Western Front" is a sobering reminder of the devastating human cost of war. It is a film that is both beautiful and harrowing, leaving a lasting impact on the viewer. With its powerful performances, skilled direction, and poignant message, it is a deserving Oscar nominee that is not to be missed. Ep 251“Blonde” The Remarkable Life & Tragic Death of Marilyn Monroe -a Film Review

In this Episode of Over the Teacup Sunday, where we'll be taking a closer look at the remarkable life and untimely death story of Marilyn Monroe, an icon in the Hollywood industry, and her relationships with Joe DiMaggio, Author Miller, and JFK. Join us on our 5-week journey as we discuss all things pop culture; from the 2023 Oscar nominated films, cast, direction and cinematography. We start with Blonde, starring Ana de Armas who is nominated for Best Actress in a Lead. Screenplay and Directed by Andrew Dominik, based on Blonde: A Novel, written by Author Joyce Carol Oates who published back in 2000. Oates makes it very clear that while the subject was real, her book is a work of fiction. The film was released September 16, 2022, and is generating a lot of controversy as it is a somewhat biographical-fictionalized but really close to home film on the life of Marilyn Monroe through the eyes of Marilyn. Join the Conversation as we explore this captivating glimpse into the life of Marilyn Monroe through the eyes of one of the most iconic figures in Hollywood. Blonde premiered at the 79th Venice International Film Festival on September 8, 2022 and began a limited theatrical release in the United States on September 16, 2022, before its streaming release on September 28 by Netflix.Although numerous movies, series and books have focused on Monroe's life story, this film is “Blonde” so controversial because it depicts Monroe's life through a narrow, misogynistic lens, primarily focusing on the trauma that Monroe endured throughout her life.DISCLAIMER: Blonde is rated NC-17: Netflix rated Blonde NC-17 as the movie contains bits of sexual content. The BFFC gave Blonde an 18 rating in the UK for sexual violence and domestic abuse.Find oit more at https://beforeyougopodcast.com This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podcorn - https://podcorn.com/privacy

Ep 236That Thing About Gray Area Drinking

In This episode: Have you ever asked yourself; “Am I an alcoholic? Could I be a Gray Drinker? What exactly is grey drinking, and will it affect my relationships? Are you one of those individuals that whenever you have a tough day, or you feel a little bit anxious that you just grab a glass of wine or a beer to help you relax” what happens when you have to have another one to take the edge off of that really rough day. That’s totally acceptable in today’s society… or is it?According to Kimberly Dawn Neumann in an article in Forbes from April 2022: “Many people who drink alcohol think their consumption falls within the “acceptable” range for alcohol use, but that might not be so true. Gray area drinking (GAD) is that muddy space somewhere between social and destructive drinking and slipping into gray area drinking is much easier to do than most people think.” The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) defines heavy drinking for men as four drinks on any day or 14+ drinks a week, and for women as three drinks on any day or 7+ drinks a week.My guest in this episode is Carrie Schell who three decades ago began her career as a midwife. Over the years, her role in the health and wellness space has evolved with graduate school, becoming a yoga instructor, and as a Director of Health and Wellness, creating innovative programs at an addiction center, and presently as a speaker and author. She comes from a perspective of having been a gray drinker herself. We’re going to learn through her journey how you can recognize whether you fall into this category and how Carrie's mind, body, spirit approach to wellness, along with her humor and wisdom, can help you with your desire to seek wellness.
