S6 Ep 8Mike Faria.
EThanks for joining me for the final episode of season 6 of One For The Road; this week I am joined by Mike Faria.Mike is a 37 year old content creator, born and raised in New Jersey. As a teenager, he experimented with drugs and alcohol to deal with his childhood trauma. In October 2019, he went into a major depression and began drinking more than he ever had in his life. He had to take leave from his job to try to function through the drunken hours, and was hoping the break would help him to quit drinking, but sadly it progressed. In January 2020, he was found barely breathing in his house from acute liver failure, hepatic encephalopathy, and kidney failure. Two weeks prior he had noticed my eyes turned yellow as toxins had built up in his blood from his liver not functioning; Mike was rushed to the ER and was in a coma for almost 3 weeks. He woke up on January 27 to be told he did not qualify for a liver transplant and that he would have to be sober for 6 months to even make the list. Doctors said there was very little chance of survival even with a liver transplant. Mike was 268 lbs when he woke up, and had to learn how to walk and eat all over again. Within three months, Mikes liver miraculously healed and he was given a second chance at life. Mike shares his story with us, and the gratitude he feels to be able to do so.This episode of One For The Road is sponsored by https://tweaklife.co.uk/ Further information and links attached below. If you want to connect with me via Instagram, you can find me on the instahandle @Soberdave https://www.instagram.com/soberdave/or via my website https://davidwilsoncoaching.com/Provided below are links for services offering additional help and advice and for Mike.https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRkjTPyn/https://www.instagram.com/jerzeymike/https://alcoholchange.org.uk/https://www.drinkaware.co.uk/advice/alcohol-support-serviceshttps://nacoa.org.uk/Show producer- Daniella Attanasio-Martinezhttps://www.grownuphustle.com/Instagram - @TheDaniellaMartinez@ GrownupHustleThis season's podcast is sponsored by a great new start up called Tweak Life. EThanks for tuning in to this weeks episode of One For The Road. This week I am joined by film director Philip Barantini. After 20 years of performing in front of the camera - including roles in the massively successful Band of Brothers, Chernobyl, Ned Kelly andHumans, Philip Barantini transitioned into directing in the late 2010s, marking his first short film with the award-winning Seconds Out, written by and starring Robbie O'Neill.Following this, Barantini helmed the BIFA nominated short film Boiling Point, starring Stephen Graham, which was then adapted into the hotly anticipated one-shot feature of the same name in 2021; both movies were co-written with Barantini's frequent collaborator James Cummings.Boiling Point saw its international debut in competition at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and premiered in the UK at the BFI London Film Festival in October 2021. The film has garnered glowing reviews from both critics and audiences, who have called the film "dizzying" [The Guardian] and "utterly compelling" [Variety], commending the film for its "piano-wire tension" [Time Out] and performances - "Stephen Graham is phenomenally mesmerising" [HEYUGUYS]. They are not anti-alcohol; they are for a future in which people drink as a conscious choice, not by default. They want those who drink too much, and their loved ones, to have access to high-quality support whenever it’s needed, without shame or stigma. They help people to find alcohol services in their area and support tens of thousands of people and their families online via our peer support groups and advice hub. Over 200,000 people used their Try Dry app to monitor their drinking this year alone, and many of them were able to successfully reduce or stop drinking.
