Specifically not showing up during spring games with the rest of the Heisman winners. It ends up in a deep discussion about fan perception of former players. Josh catches us up on the big recruiting weekend and the gains he sees Oklahoma making on the recruiting trail. We also spark up some softball discussion with Bob and some baseball discussion with Eddie. EFriday afternoon Baker Mayfield held his inaugural No Bogeys with Baker & Emily Mayfield charity event at Top Golf in OKC to benefit Meals on Wheels in Norman. Carey, Eddie and George were in attendance and we had a chance to talk with Blake Bell, Orlando Brown, Grant Calcaterra and Baker Mayfield. The event was sponsored by Riverwind Casino and SoonerScoop.com served as the media sponsor. The interviews were uncut and unedited and do include some language. But it was a great afternoon for a great cause and some of the best interviews we've ever done at SoonerScoop, including a retelling of the Baker Mayfield suspension and Orlando Brown carrying out Baker's "jersey" for the coin toss against West Virginia. It was a great day to celebrate Kyler Murray as well as we got plenty of thoughts from former players about Kyler's big day tomorrow. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

U40: DeMarco Murray and the RB room, spring thoughts and softball is fun
It's been a fun and busy time as softball had a very entertaining series against the Longhorns. But it's spring football madness as we've now had three extended viewing sessions so far. This week we took a hard look at the linebackers after focusing on the running backs earlier. We had a surprise injury in Jovantae Barnes as he was rolling around on a scooter. It was interesting to see how Venables has injured players show up fully suited up to practices. We want to find out more about that quirk. Is Marcus Major deserving of being the No. 1 RB with his injury history? And what kind of coach and recruiter is Murray developing into? Justin Harrington and Dasan McCullough talk. Defensive end talk takes up a big portion of our spring practice discussions as well. Of course we've got you covered on the recruiting side of things and we had to dive into Eddie's football career after Sam Bradford's tales of his greatness. And we have a major announcement regarding the status of Eddie Radosevich's role with SoonerScoop. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

U40: New facilities, a Campus Corner dust up and JR Days
Trying a new format this week as Josh, Eddie, George and Carey are in studio and we bring on Bob to talk about his beat of men's hoops and softball. Even though it's mid-week, there has been plenty of news this week. And that's exactly how we like it. George and Carey were at the Board of Regents meeting this week where several coaches either got extensions or raises and OU added to the Athletic Department master plan by approving construction company involvement in the new football operational facility to be built east of the stadium. We talk about what we learned about facilities coming out of the BoR meeting. Basketball is in a win or go home and softball is heating up as they now have a nice win streak building. Josh gives us updates on how things went and continue to go from last weekend's junior day in Norman. And we recap the NFL Combine from the weekend. We also torture George by asking about his family, which puts Eddie on his worst behavior. It's a jam-packed edition of the Unofficial 40 this week. The rundown doesn't follow below because Eddie accidentally deleted it this week. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
U40: We welcome George Stoia to his new home
It's a massive day at SoonerScoop.com as we welcome in George Stoia to the company. George talks about why he came back to Oklahoma and decided to join up with us in Norman. Spring football is less than a month away but the NFL Combine is taking place and several Sooners are ready to make their best impression on NFL personnel directors. We talked with George about his experiences at the combine covering the Broncos as well. Hoops is playing well after a big win on the road at Iowa State and softball regained their swagger with a beatdown of No. 1 UCLA out in California. And Josh is always here to give us the rundown on a big junior day getting ready to happen this weekend. Eddie gives an update on his continued apartment problems. U40: Football media shows samples of character on team
The offseason is over in a month with the start of spring football. But Brent Venables gave us the opportunity last week to visit with his freshman and transfers so we could get to know them. We got a sample of some of the character of this team. What did we think? Who stood out? Any red flags? Bob is uncomfortable because Josh went to a football camp with '25 and '26 players. You also get to hear Bob and Eddie hold their own therapy session concerning OU basketball. They deserve this after covering this team all year. We also talk about SEC scheduling while plumbers come in and out of the office trying to fix stuff. There is actually a flood in the pod room right now. Brent Venables has scheduled a tour de force media day on Thursday where he will make every newcomer (recruits and wtransfers) available to the media along with holding his own press conference to wrap up the offseason while we move toward spring football. It's something we've never seen before. But we catch up on all the latest with OU hoops and Porter Moser who continues the rollercoaster ride of being OU's head basketball coach. The Sooners soundly defeat Kansas State, but we're not sure what that means. Josh gets us ready as recruiting is getting ready to heat up with 2024 and 2025 visitors and offers starting to take shape. Camps are getting underway as well and Josh is ready to hit the road. We also have seven Sooners heading to the NFL Combine. Who missed out that should have been invited? Also Eddie and Carey's day from hell on Tuesday. The rundown follows below: 00:00 - Welcome back! Coaches are getting some well-deserved time off this week so we talk about some of the latest goings on in the NIL space and catch up with how things are going in the space. Everyone can finally stop sending Jeff Lebby to Alabama as they have hired their new offensive coordinator. Hoops is not going well since the win over Alabama. In fact, it's hit rock bottom. Is Moser on the move? We talk about the rumors of Notre Dame being a possible destination if Moser wants out of OU. Bob is covering softball this year and we talk about the Sooners media day and what has changed since last year's national championship. What is the pitching rotation going to look like? We finally have a Big 12 schedule release and we have plenty of thoughts on why it took so long and how the conference worked things out. It's also signing day and even though the Sooners don't have a lot of action today, Josh is here to breakdown how last weekend's big junior days event came off for Brent Venables and the boys. We do breakdown OU's lone signee today in Taylor Heim. What is his best position at the next level? U40: Why Lebby/Bama makes no sense and OU not done in 2023
Carey, Josh and Eddie were all aboard for this week's edition of the Unofficial 40 podcast. Porter Moser's basketball team appears to be falling into disrepair. And we're tired of the excuses and the lack of action. It's time to do something about Lloyd Noble Center. It's time to stop ignoring what everyone sees. Junior Days have started and Josh has a full update on what's going down. A major recruiting name has predicted David Stone to Michigan State. Josh gives fans reasons not to worry too much. And we get into the Jeff Lebby/Alabama rumor mill. This is what we've heard and when you put it all together, it makes absolutely no sense for Lebby to take the Alabama job. Carey also made Josh's day by finally binging the first season of Ted Lasso. And the trail of disaster continues to follow Eddie. The office flooded yesterday. U40: OU's roster is being remade through the portal
Eddie continues to go through difficult times as his car blew up this morning. But we all somehow made it for a get together as Eddie hunkered down at his parents' house and the gang found a way to make it happen. It's a much needed podcast because everyone is trying to stay up to date on what is happening in the portal. We break down all the new additions to the OU roster, the losses, and the coaching changes as breaking news was flying during the pod recording. We also take a look ahead at what is getting ready to happen in recruiting. And Josh celebrated his ability to let everyone know that you will never win a national championship unless you are Georgia or Alabama or start recruiting on their level. He hates hope, underdogs, upsets, Cinderella, etc. Is Eddie's broken down Hyundai even worth anything as a trade in? Eskridge Lexus, get ready for your newest customer. Bob chimes in with some major hoops knowledge as well. The Sooners just lost a tough one to Kansas and Porter is left searching for answers. Learn more about your ad choices. U40: Recapping Under Armour and All-American practices
The gang is all here to talk to Josh, who has done the majority of traveling the last week going from Orlando to San Antonio covering all-star game practices and workouts. Josh talks about his impressions of the OU signees in Orlando at the Under Armour All-American game as the Sooners had a lot of talent in Florida. He also headed down to San Antonio yesterday. All-in-all, OU had 11 members of their signing class participate in all-star activities and 12 total were selected. We also take some time to breakdown what's going on in the transfer portal as one of the top offensive linemen in the portal has landed in Norman. And he is familiar with a very prominent member of the OU football team. He's a former teammate of Dillon Gabriel's at UCF. All of that, a little what the hell? talk out of Stillwater and an unfortunate update on the latest developments for Porter Moser and the OU hoops team. Learn more about your ad choices. U40: Scoop is in Orlando, no thanks to Southwest Airlines
Eddie and Bob made it to Orlando but got stuck in Atlanta as Southwest Airlines went into full meltdown mode. After a rental car got them to Orlando, they've been attending all the practices and press conferences and have their report from hell. Josh is getting ready to follow them as they leave to cover the Under Armour All-American game. We breakdown OU's chances against Florida State and also the players OU has signed playing in the Under Armour game. Some newcomers joined the team in Orlando and the offensive line needs one more tackle to make us feel comfortable about this offense's chances against the Seminoles. U40: Sooners finish 2023 class with a five-star flip
Oklahoma landed 5-star defensive back Peyton Bowen today and the gang is all here to breakdown how it happened and what to expect from the Class of 2023. The Sooners moved up to No. 7 in the Rivals national team recruiting rankings after Bowen signed. They also got a big transfer portal addition in Texas Tech safety Reggie Pearson. Are the Sooners done? Maybe. Maybe not. But one thing this coaching staff has shown is that they will fight to the end to get anyone still out there that can help this team get better. It's our second pod of the week and another good one. We also look at the national recruiting scene as well. What the hell is going on at Oklahoma State? Learn more about your ad choices. U40: Early Signing Day Preview
Carey, Josh and Eddie stopped by to record a "quick" preview of what to expect for this year's signing day. We also got to check out an OU football practice as well as talk to the players after it was over. What's the latest with Dillon Gabriel and Marvin Mims and why haven't they made any announcements about their futures? What did things look like at practice after some players have opted out of the bowl game? And Josh is here to breakdown everything that is still up in the air in recruiting and the transfer portal. Any surprises looming for players who have been committed? Any last minute additions? We go into it all in this edition of the Unofficial 40. Learn more about your ad choices. U40: Sooners keep adding players, but some needs remain
Even though we haven't talked to a football player since the end of the regular season, there's not been a time when this much is happening between the end of the season and a bowl game. The Sooners are picking up commitments from the portal and the recruiting trail. And they're looking to close strong heading to the early National Signing Day. Could there even be a Bedlam transfer in the works? We also talk about the receiver position where the Sooners seem to moving on from player after player. Josh has a new forecast for a 2023 recruit and we talk about OU trying to make another run at an entertainment district/arena in Norman. We also give our thoughts on the tragic loss of Mike Leach. U40: Tracking OU's moves in the portal and in recruiting
The gang is back and we know OU's bowl destination. But there is so much going on with the portal that we have to start there. Who are the Sooners really serious about? And what areas do the Sooners need to hit the hardest. As more names enter the portal, it becomes harder and harder to track where OU's interest really lies. Also, it's still recruiting season so it's wild out there. Carey, Josh, Eddie and Bob run through all the potential chaos and potential additions. We talk a little bowl game and mainly how the Sooners are going to make up for the losses headed into the Cheez-It Bowl. Bob updates with the hoops as always. The full rundown follows below: 00:00 - We've got a bowl game match-up and it's Transfer Portal SZN 28:00 - Sooners interest in the Portal 41:00 - Recruiting closing out 2023 57:00 - Offensive line development 1:04:00 - Hoops Learn more about your ad choices. U40: Transfer portal: we're speculating, not reporting
The entire crew is back to talk about the start of portal season. And FAIR WARNING we are not reporting anything about players getting ready to portal who haven't. We're just speculating about players who might be possibilities to look elsewhere after this 6-6 season. We know Jordan Mukes and Theo Wease are entering the portal. And we know Eric Gray has been invited to the Senior Bowl. But what do we think about the chances of Dillon Gabriel leaving? Marvin Mims? Could C.J. Coldon return. Who might surprise us by entering the portal. National signing day is starting to approach and we have some interesting news coming out about Peyton Bowen. What is Josh's read on the situation? We also talk about closing out the 2023 class with signing day a few weeks away. And Bob is the king of the show because hoops is outstanding right now. U40: Bedlam win, big recruiting and a final game to win
A little bit of an early Thanksgiving weekend Unofficial 40 as the gang is all here before the holiday hits. We continue to be befuddled by the clock management in Bedlam. The coaches have now had their say in what happened and we still aren't completely clear what happened. The defense is playing well but heading to Lubbock will be a true challenge. Can they keep consistency and play well on the road? We talk about the really big recruiting weekend and what is ahead with OU and some of the biggest names that stopped in Norman this weekend. And again, Texas Tech will challenge the Sooners. They are fourth down maniacs on offense and will present a running challenge at the QB position. Happy Thanksgiving everybody! U40: How is recruiting holding up at 5-5
The Unofficial 40 is a man down as Eddie is hanging on to life after standing in the freezing rain last weekend in Morgantown. Carey, Josh and Bob carry the day as we break into some recruiting as Bedlam will be a big recruiting weekend. Brent Venables is sending messages to recruits in press conferences and it seems like some of the biggest names committed are staying solid with the Sooners. We also talk about the repercussions of OU making or not making a bowl game, the newest collective that has been announced and Bob gets to shine with his latest report on the OU basketball team. The full rundown follows below: INTRO - Eddie may be dead. West Virginia tried to kill him. 00:05:00 - Brent Venables sending messages to recruits 00:13:00 - Bowl game eligible. U40: West Virginia and the future of the OU defensive roster
Brent Venables was peppered this week with big picture questions concerning the program moving forward. The gang sits down and reflects on what we've seen from this team defensively, where it's going wrong and how it gets fixed. Is this about playing younger players, going hard in the transfer portal, or can it only be fixed in recruiting. The guys have a deep discussion about the future of the OU defense and how Venables and staff needs to build it quickly. We also take a look at the Big 12. Now that the Sooners are on the outside of things, who will end up winning it all? We also take you deep into the latest on recruiting as the Sooners just lost a commitment to Texas. Where do the Sooners head now? Josh had a new name on the podcast that was offered by OU just after the show wrapped. We also check in with Bob about the latest with OU hoops after a devastating season opening loss to Sam Houston State. Tons of football though. We didn't let Bob talk too much hoops. The full rundown follows below: 00:00 - Welcome back! OU is headed to Morgantown 27:00 - Pulse of Big 12 football; who wins this conference? 38:00 - Winning at a Championship level 42:00 - Who can come in and help defensively? 58:00 - Colton Vasek flips to Texas 1:09:00 - What's the latest on Anthony Evans? 1:23:00 - Ughhh ... U40: Fans are getting used to winning as Baylor comes to town
Josh and Bob recap their thoughts on the Iowa State win and we take a look ahead at Baylor this weekend. Brent Venables had some interesting things to say this week during his press conference and Dillon Gabriel and Marvin Mims are working to get back on the same page on offense. The defense gives us some belief that Venables is starting to reach these players who have just cratered as seasons have progressed over the years. The offensive line will also face a challenge in Baylor while the defense continues trying to prove they are making strides. Are recruiting weekends still a thing in Norman? And will there be a five-star defensive lineman committed to Texas A&M making a trip to Norman soon? Is Colton Vasek's quiet a good thing after he was at Texas a couple weeks ago? Bob is here to tell us about the surprise departure of an OU hoops assistant. The rundown follows below: 00:00 - Welcome back. OU football is kinda here. Maybe. 34:00 - Recruiting 1:05:00 - Hoops -- Assistant coach Matt Brady out at OU Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
U40: Football heads to Iowa State and some breaking recruiting news
Game weeks are back as the Sooners get ready to hit the road for Ames, Iowa, to take on the Iowa State Cyclones! The whole gang is here and ready to hit the road to cover some more football. In this episode we breakdown the health and availability of the roster heading into Saturday's matchup. Billy Bowman coming back? Is Marcus Major going to play anytime soon? We talk about all of our media availability this week and what we've learned while also kind of taking a look back at who has stood out the most just past the halfway point. And just before the podcast started, there was breaking news about OU wide receiver commit Anthony Evans is visiting Georgia. Josh breaks down whether or not OU fans should be worried. We also cover last week's trip to Denton to see Guyer take on Allen and the stars all over the field that night. And Jackson Arnold wasn't the best player on the field according to Josh. It's someone else OU has had their eye on. We also sprinkle in some Texas A&M talk, some NIL talk and Bob has a basketball exhibition to torture Josh with at the end of the pod. Excuse us, Carey and Eddie have to go be men and use power tools. The full rundown follows below: 00:00 - Welcome back. Headed to Ames. 23:00 - Biggest surprises at the midway point 45:00 - Recruiting; Anthony Evans OV to Georgia 53:00 - What's up with 5-star DL David Hicks? + some laughs about Texas A&M's situation 1:03:00 - Recapping Denton Guyer/Allen 1:16:00 - Rivals250 DT Kayden McDonald decision ahead 1:23:30 - HOOPS Learn more about your ad choices. U40: Bye weeks mean recruiting, recruiting, recruiting
It's a bye week for the Sooners. A much needed bye week for everyone. We look back at the Kansas game with Josh and Bob present this time. And there's plenty of praise for a defense that gave up 42 points. We're actually excited to see this team get back on the field against Iowa State. We breakdown some of the comments by Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark about OU and Texas' move to the SEC and future Big 12 schedules. But really this episode is all about recruiting during a by week, the latest visitors to Norman, and the rumors surrounding players who have been visiting elsewhere. We also talk about preparing for the SEC and OU's $100,000 payday from private tailgating companies. And Bob is here to drive Josh crazy because Porter Moser is also in Kansas City talking about the start of the Big 12 hoops season. Well, exhibition season. 0:00 - We're back. U40: Don't lose to Kansas. DON'T LOSE TO KANSAS!
Brent Venables took to the podium yesterday. Brent Venables has done his weekly coaches show as well. We took a lot out of both those appearances and dissected the state of the OU football program once again. WE DO THIS EVERY WEEK NOW IT SEEMS! The locker room is on the line this week against Kansas. Another disaster performance will probably lose this locker room. Meanwhile, Venables is going into overdrive trying to save this team and get them to dig their way out. Can the return of Dillon Gabriel start to right this ship that has gone terribly off course since the Nebraska game. And what happens to recruiting if so many visitors see a terrible performance against the Jayhawks? What are the stands going to look like? Will there be boos? If they lose their will be boos and booze. OU has to show us something. We can't keep living life like this! Josh chimes in on recruiting as well. The whole gang is here. Welcome to your weekly therapy session. The full rundown follows below: 00:00 - Welcome back. U40: It's OU/Texas and we're trying to find a path to victory
Saturday was bad. Sunday was bad. Monday was, well, it was Monday. But here we are on Wednesday. Has the doom and gloom lifted? Maybe a little bit. We're laying down our blueprint for an Oklahoma win against Texas in the Red River Rivalry. Does that mean we're fully back? No. It doesn't mean that. What has to happen for the Sooners if Dillon Gabriel doesn't play? How can the defense possibly rebound from that performance against TCU? What do the last two weeks mean for recruiting? Any panic yet? We might be all over the map, but what do you expect? It's just Wednesday. You need at least until Thursday to start recovering. Maybe this pod will help with your recovery. We're trying to believe things can get better. We're really trying. We also breakdown what the Sooners are facing against the Longhorns' offense and we talk about recent recruiting trips. Who will Lebby start at QB? See! We're all over the map. 00:00 - Uh, I guess it's OU-Texas 15:00 - The other side of the disaster: OU offense 24:00 - Will OU recruiting suffer? 42:00 - BV managing expectations 57:00 - Let's talk about the Horns 1:15:00 - We went and saw OU commits Jaquiaze Pettaway and Jackson Arnold last week Learn more about your ad choices. U40: A shocker as David Hicks picks Aggies
It's a bit of an emergency pod and a pod replacement. We had a pod earlier in the day and were ready to publish and then come back for an emergency pod after David Hicks' commitment announcement this afternoon. But HIcks did the unexpected and announced for Texas A&M. So we scrapped the first pod and came back with an emergency pod to talk about everything we know and how it went down with Hicks and Oklahoma. It was a rough day full of news and suprises. Josh McCuistion joins us as he was headed back from the Hicks' announcement while Carey chimes in with what he was learning in the moments since the announcement was made. Meanwhile, OU has to go to TCU and has a huge game on their hands. Things haven't been going well for OU fans since the Kansas State game. But we're hoping things get turned around starting Saturday. U40: OU guards against letdown as wounded KSU comes to town
EBack and bigger than ever, the boys are in studio to talk about what we saw last week in Lincoln and what's headed to Norman Saturday. It's a night game, a conference opener and it's in GFOMS. The fans have a lot of respect for Kansas State in Norman. Just about every OU fan can remember the Wildcats pulling off improbable wins on Owen Field. But coming off a loss to Tulane, the worry is that this OU team doesn't take KSU serious after they've just trounced Nebraska on their home turf. The guys start off sharing a little story from practice last night that might show where the program is right now from a mental standpoint. Special teams are becoming special again as Marvin Mims is starting to put on a show returning punts. The offense was opened up last week. What does Jeff Lebby have in store this week? And how will the offensive line play against a stout Kansas State defensive line. And OU's defense line? Eddie has some numbers that will really impress you. We hit the recruiting trail with Josh, talk weekend visitors, the current 2023 class, and Eddie and Bob's trips in Nebraska to see some OU targets. Oh yeah, and some death of Bedlam talk as well. The pod is tuned up and running in tip-top shape. So let's get to it! U40: Nebraska is just one massive unknown for Scoop
The Oklahoma Sooners get set to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Lincoln as the crew is headed to cover the first road game of the season. We're not sure what to expect from a Nebraska team that just fired its head coach. We breakdown what we might see from the Sooners in Lincoln based on what we've seen so far this season. Is Dillon Gabriel ready for this stage? Will there be some nerves? How will the Huskers react after just losing their coach? Will they step up their game after an emotional week? And the defense is going to be tested against a team averaging a lot of points. How will they hold up in a road environment? Emotions will be running high. How far can that carry Nebraska? With Kansas State on the horizon, we're going to learn a lot about Oklahoma's readiness to face the Wildcats. We're also headed to Nebraska to scout recruits. And Josh weighs in with his thoughts on Kent State and his trips to Washington and the Kansas City area last weekend. Eddie also saw Jackson Arnold in person. It's a packed show and we're ready to get going! OU-Nebraska is almost here! The full rundown follows below: 00:00 - OU/Nebraska Week. We'll be there.
