U40: Will OU's offense be better or worse against Auburn?
SEC firsts haven't gone well for Oklahoma. After a 25-15 loss to Tennessee in their SEC home opener, the Sooners travel to Auburn, Ala., for their SEC road opener. In this episode we talk about the QB change from Jackson Arnold to Michael Hawkins Jr. We also breakdown the position coaches on offense. Who is pulling their weight? Anyone? Blocking has become a massive issue for this offense. Turnovers at the worst time as well. Can Hawkins step up and fill the void against a stiff Auburn defense? How will the defense replace Kendel Dolby at the cheetah position? Trace Ford did it a week ago, but this Auburn offense has had interception issues. And we loved hearing from Brent Venables this week during his weekly press conference. He was direct and honest about the issues plaguing his team and in particular, his offense. Trying to diagnose the injury situation has become a full-time affair and we're trying to figure that out with Andrel Anthony and Nic Anderson. U40: It's a massive game in Norman. OU vs. Tennessee
Usually during game weeks, you get a little worn out talking about the same things over and over. But not this week. This is the week you love to try and figure out exactly what we could see happen in the biggest matchup in college football this weekend. Or at least what everyone thinks is going to be the biggest matchup. OU's offense line? Uggh. Can it hold up? Can it protect Jackson Arnold? Can it help the run game? Who will be back? What will guys like Nic Anderson look like coming back? Will he be rusty? Should we temper our expectations? Is Branson Hickman going to be back? And will he hold up? Can the defense and the crowd get to Tennessee's young gun, Nico Iamaleava? Josh is here to update us on the recruiting weekend as well as what has been happening with Cortez Mills and Floyd Boucard, who recently decommitted. It's a huge weekend in Norman. Let us get you ready from the Campus Corner studios. And plenty of insight and talk about Josh Heupel and why Bob Stoops is wanting to sit out all media requests this week. How are things going between those two? THE FULL RUNDOWN FOLLOWS BELOW: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! BIG week in Norman. U40: The run game is what fixes OU's offense
It's Wednesday. There may be some hope in the air after everyone has gotten the doom and gloom out of their system. At least the people inside the Scoop offices. We've heard from players and Brent Venables. We've watched Internet breakdowns of what went wrong schematically Our friends and families have aired their grievances in our direction. And of course, we've seen what you've been saying on the Crimson Corner, X and the YouTube comments section. And now it's Wednesday and we all have different perspectives Carey, Josh, Eddie and George have gathered to talk about what we've learned this week and where the Sooners are heading as they get ready to take on Tulane. What's the latest on the injury front? Who could we see back this week? And how is the defense holding up? Josh also has the latest in recruiting on Cortez Mills and whether he is still an OU commitment or not. All that and more on this week's edition of the Unofficial 40. 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! U40: What can be fixed and who can step up on offense for Houston?
Is the Scoop staff at war with each other over the offensive line situation? Maybe. But mainly we're all just trying to figure out who the hell is going to be the starting center Saturday against Houston. Injuries have ravaged the interior of the OU offensive line and even Brent Venables seemed a bit put off by answering questions about it this week at his weekly press conference. (George did it). And we really dig deep into who could be the youngsters to step up at the receiver position. But then the good happens. We start talking about the defense and the depth and talent that is being developed by Brent Venables in Norman. The Sooners are legitimately two-deep at a lot of positions. And we liked a lot of what we saw from the defensive line last weekend. But again, it's only one game and it was against a pretty bad Temple team. Josh is here to hit on some recruiting as the Tennessee weekend is looking like one to watch for all you recruitniks. The latest with Cortez Mills and Andrew Babalola as well. We also take a look around at college football and the teams that have been duds so far in the early season. Florida State and Florida? We're looking at you. THE FULL RUNDOWN FOLLOWS BELOW: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! What’s going on at center? 17:00 - Wide receiver; who steps up? 30:00 - Defense. Defense. U40: Trying to decipher what hidden meanings the depth chart may contain
So many developments this week as the Sooners get ready to take on Temple inside Gaylor Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on Friday night. We talk about some of our player access this week along with George's excellent profile on Jackson Arnold finally getting to the point where it's his time to shine. We also try and decipher where David Stone really sits on the defensive line when this is all said and done. Is Jayden Jackson the difference maker we all feel he is being made out to be? Or is this depth chart deception that has us taking a deeper dive into what this all means? We're really getting in the weeds with the depth chart. And what about guys like Deion Burks? Guys we talked about and drooled over all spring? He's just kind of flown under the radar. Temple appears to be a bad football team. If OU is dominating at halftime then will anyone but backups play after halftime. And what is this offensive line going to look like on the first offensive snap of the game? Who will be out there? Josh is here for a little bit of recruiting talk and we're really getting prepared to see some football. Can't Wait!!! THE FULL RUNDOWN FOLLOWS BELOW: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! U40: How will the Sooners approach the season opener? Will they hold back?
This week's episode of the Unofficial 40 is presented by the Oklahoma Zooligical Society's 16th annual ZOObrew presented by Byron's Liquor Warehouse. Event to take place at the OKC Zoo September 27th! We're inching closer and closer to the season as the Sooners get ready for their season opener. After a full preseason camp we've gleaned a lot of information from interviews and sources. But there are a lot of things we still wonder about. And not just about how players will perform. How will Seth Littrell's offense look to start the season. Will they be holding things back for SEC play? Or will they just let Jackson Arnold let it fly so he can gain confidence early? We talk a lot about Woodi Washington and his role in the secondary. Carey says his production is overlooked as people try and push him out at cornerback. What freshman have gotten a lot of love but might end up being shelved at deep positions? What will tailgating look like this year? We're talking about a lot of small stuff because we've broken down the roster so many times we have to talk about something. THE FULL RUNDOWN FOLLOWS BELOW: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! U40: Standouts are emerging in preseason camp
It's a megasized preseason camp edition of the Unofficial 40. We don't leave a single position out of this breakdown of things we've heard from practice, scrimmages, injuries, etc. Carey, Josh, Eddie and George are all here to talk about the positives and negatives coming out of fall camp. After talking to Brent Venables on Monday, there is plenty to digest. We even talk QBs even though there is no controversy. What are our biggest concerns? What are our biggest positives? Where is OU coming up short? Josh also updates us on the latest with Michael Fasusi as his decision grows ever closer. Just dudes talking ball. Well, reporters talking ball. Some say we're right wing nut jobs that can pronounce words correctly. That's actually just Eddie. It's the Unofficial 40 Podcast that Carey finally didn't screw up. U40: Jayden Gibson injury, impressions from preseason camp
Preseason camp is underway and we've had more media access and interview sessions since we last talked. Last night George Stoia broke the news about wide receiver Jayden Gibson's knee injury. We break that down even more early in the pod. We're also joined by Joe Castiglione Jr., who gives his insight on how teams, trainers and players deal with major injuries at OU. We got to watch practice for a bit on Monday and have some impressions on how guys like Andrel Anthony are coming along. We also talk plenty of offensive line and defensive line. The defense is going to be good, but where are our biggest concerns? We also give you our impressions from several interview sessions, including the latest with Jovantae Barnes and Jackson Arnold. And Brent Venables also had plenty to say Saturday with his media session. All the latest from preseason camp. U40: We're rolling into fall camp and Nijaree Canady got how much?
It's that time of the year between talking season and practices starting. We're here for all of it as we had plenty to talk about on today's edition of the Unofficial 40. The office is alive with the sounds of college football as George Stoia and Eddie Radosevich were playing some NCAA Football in the conference room before the show. What type of league has George got himself roped into? We've had some famous people dropping by the studios lately and Skip Johnson was the latest. Skip stopped by to talk with Eddie about the impressive donation recently given to OU athletics. Josh McCuistion is here with the latest on the recruiting trail as the Under the Stars event takes place this weekend. And as we were doing the pod we found out the news of Nijaree Canady heading to Texas Tech of all places. More recruiting as Josh jumps in on recent defensive line commit Floyd Bouchard. And we talk offensive tackles of course. Roster sizes are also changing with a lot of sports at OU and everywhere else in college. More of this with more of that in this episode of the Unofficial 40. U40: Reporting back from SEC Media Days and Josh speaks!
So much to talk about after the gang returns back from SEC Media Days. Brent Venables seemed different this year as the head coach of the Sooners. And it was in a very good way. We talk about impressions from everything that went down with the Sooners this week and more. And what about the conference-wide reception of the Sooners from everyone in attendance? Are the Sooners being treated like a bunch of poors? We also breakdown what we think might happen in the SEC. Who is the dark horse that could upset a lot of these predictions of Missouri and Ole Miss making a run at Alabama and Georgia? And how many people know what OU's record actually was last year and who they actually beat? Josh is back and in action as recruiting for 2025 is coming to a close already. He gives us the latest on OU's remaining targets for the class. We also take a look ahead at what's to come for OU with the start of preseason football. And we do discuss exactly what happened with the audio and camera and George's secret microphone. The full rundown follows below: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! U40: We have reached powerless Josh and SEC Media Days coming
We finally reach Josh who has been without power on the outskirts of Houston for days with no idea when he will be back. He finally gets a chance to address Lamont Rogers and talk about the rest of the OL recruiting class the Sooners are chasing. Also just an update on his life. Which is in shambles. As we all ask? Why do you live in Houston??? Big 12 media days have started and it has a feeling some kind of way about change. Although we couldn't be happier to be going to Dallas next week instead of Vegas in 125-degree weather. We'll be there, along with Jackson Arnold, Danny Stutsman, Billy Bowman and Brent Venables. And we're ready to get down to business talking college football. Talking season has arrived. We also talk about the return of Jeremiah Criddell to Oklahoma as a graduate assistant coach. U40: A lot of opinions out there concerning OU's position in the SEC
What a wild start to the pod this week. We welcome in an uninvited visitor that we still don't know a lot about. But Calf Tat Josh was here for the rescue. The first nine minutes of this podcast are frankly, kind of insane. We also introduce you to another visitor this week that knew all about the Unofficial 40. Let's just say that Tad and Leslie from Orlando are raising their children right. They drove all the way from Orlando and came to SoonerScoopHQ to try and meet Carey. Not Eddie, not George, but Carey. Their children Freddy and Faith are big fans of the show and they have memorized the opening to the podcast. And they prove it in studio! We also take a look back at a wild week of Eddie and George being introduced to the SEC fans through the Paul Finebaum Show. Joe Castiglione had quite the mic drop moment on SEC Now as well. But also, we get knee deep into some football talk as July has started. We take a look at OU's position in the SEC and ask why some national media still don't seem to get it. Or maybe we're just the homers. There has also been some movement along offensive line recruiting and Josh is here to fill us in on the latest. BACITRACIN! The full rundown follows below: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! U40: OU Athletic Director Joe Castiglione joins the show
It was a big day on the Unofficial 40 as Joe Castiglione, the father of one half of The Family Business came in studio to talk with Carey and Eddie about a number of topics. We talked about OU's official move to the SEC and the events and celebration taking place July 1 on campus. We also talk about the new arena proposal in Norman after several city council meetings and a planning commission meeting. Why does Castiglione believe Norman needs this project as much as OU does? We also hit on NIL and the new 1Oklahoma Collective. How should OU fans approach giving to NIL with the new collective? And we can't wait to tour Love's Field with everyone else next Monday. Josh also comes in to put a wrap on all the recruiting action that has happened lately. And the Sooners are making a move for a 5-Star OT. The full rundown follows below: 00:00 - Welcome to the U40! U40: Previewing the ChampUBBQ and recruiting camps
The boys are back in town as Josh McCuistion has been in studio all week and we've got another all present podcast waiting for you. It's recruiting season so this is a recruiting heavy pod. Josh gives us a preview of what to expect this weekend for the ChampUBBQ and we talk about how we think big recruiting weekends have changed with the times. We're also still in the middle of Brent Venables' football camps and offers are still going out. We give you the latest from camp. The Sooners received a couple of commitments since we last talked and Curtis Lofton is officially being hired as the General Manager of OU football. We'll talk about what that means. There have also been some arrests lately. We talk about it. And what we know or what we don't know about Nijaree Canady in the portal. We know OU is being aggressive in trying to lure here to Norman. But is the price so high that Patty doesn't want to deal with the potential disruption it could cause on the team? She kind of knows what good chemistry looks like. U40: City Council meeting not a positive for new arena plan
It did not go well last night at the City of Norman's meeting of the City Council. There was a lot of opposition to the city's $1 billion entertainment district that would be built around a new arena that would house the men's and women's basketball games along with gymnastics events. Carey and George were tuned in to the debate/meeting last night and have the latest on why it wasn't good for OU's plans of building a new arena in a massive new project spearheaded by the city of Norman. Josh is headed back to Oklahoma for another day of Brent Venables' Football camps and we preview some of the names coming in. The quarterback position will be one to watch. George Stoia and Bob Przybylo spent the afternoon at OU sitting in on a presentation about the potential entertainment district in Norman. How impressed was the crew with the new renderings released today? And how much is the school kicking in for the construction costs? The baseball season is over. Josh is in studio because he's touring the state of Oklahoma checking out the top prospects. This week he's out at team camps looking in on some of OU's biggest commitments and targets. The WCWS is about to start and Eddie is here to talk about baseball as long as Carey doesn't ruin it for him. U40: Brent Venables is DT hungry
It's another week inside the Scoop Studios on Campus Corner and Carey, Josh, Eddie and George are back for another edition of the Unofficial 40. This week had us looking ahead to the SEC and how difficult the road could be for the Sooners. Vegas does not have the Sooners favored in a ton of contests in 2024. We're all pretty excited about the Thunder right now as Eddie and George are trying to scheme their way into the arena tonight. Josh has been out on the recruiting trail and the portal is still a thing for Oklahoma who is looking to add more muscle on the interior defensively. Which leads to a discussion about how well the Sooners have been doing and how hungry Brent Venables is for defensive linemen in his program. The full rundown follows below: 00:00 - Welcome to the U40! Thunder hoops 14:00 - You can start listening HERE. OU over/unders in 2024 36:00 - What’s happening on the recruiting front? U40: Why NIL is now working for Oklahoma
We're back with Carey, Josh, Eddie and George for another edition of the Unofficial 40. We take some time to relax and look back at OU's success in the transfer portal and why we think the Sooners are starting to figure this all out. What has changed? What caused that change? And is OU is a good spot to compete in the transfer portal in the future? Josh updates us on recruiting after Trystan Haynes committed to the Sooners yesterday. He's getting set to embark on a massive recruiting tour across Texas and Oklahoma as well. And OU's summer camps should be full of prospects we can't wait to see in action. U40: The latest with Damonic Williams, portal and recruiting
It's the Unofficial 40 back and fully in football mode. We're talking about Damonic Williams. George has put in the work and has all the latest on the saga that has become everything the OU football program is about in this very moment. He's currently in Baton Rouge, but there's reason to believe OU still has a chance to land the biggest defensive player currently in the portal. Here from the gang on everything they've heard leading up to this point. We also talk about the departure of Gavin Freeman and how much processing is going on right now with NIL and the portal. And who else should we be keeping an eye on in the portal? We hit a little bit on the NFL draft, explore the weirdness happening in Colorado and we hit on OU's latest with recruiting. From the commitment of Courtland Guillory to the next steps in the recruiting process for Brent Venables. The full rundown follows below: 00:00 - Welcome to the U40! 5:00 - The latest on Oklahoma’s pursuit of TCU transfer DT Damonic Williams 24:00 - WR Gavin Freeman enters the portal 29:00 - New names to know from the Transfer Portal 42:00 - 2024 NFL Draft talk 52:00 - Is Colorado imploding in front of us? 57:00 - Recruiting: 2025 DB Courtland Guillory commits to OU Learn more about your ad choices. U40: Spring Football wrap-up, Recruiting time is here.
Spring football has finished. And the entire gang is here to discuss what we learned and where this program is heading into the SEC. The transfer portal is obviously a big part of that and George is here to talk about Damonic Williams and whether the Sooners are moving on, or waiting to see what happens on these upcoming visits. Is OU willing to let this all play out? Or will they move on to other players in the portal at the defensive line position. We wrap up some of the loose ends in recruiting from the weekend as OU coaches have descended on Houston this morning. And Bob jumps on to tell us how awful things are going for Porter Moser in the portal. The full rundown follows below: 00:00 - Welcome back to the U40! U40: Get ready for a spring game. Ignore that portal opening.
We're back as we get ready for a huge weekend in Norman. The annual spring game takes place this weekend and there will be transfers and recruits all over the place. As long as the weather doesn't kill everything that is. We get started today though talking about the portal and where OU is looking to fix their issues. And even as we are doing the pod, we again have breaking news as a major defensive line target enters the portal from TCU. Outside of the offensive and defensive lines, are the Sooners even paying attention to other positions? Josh is here to breakdown the latest in recruiting. Any commitments expected out of this weekend. And exactly who is visiting from the portal? We breakdown what we learned from talking to Jackson Arnold and Danny Stutsman after practice on Tuesday. When Bob is done yelling at us from the other room, he stops in to talk about the latest with softball and the Portal Moser situation. It's not off to a great start inside the LNC. Some baseball updates and we reminisce about the awesome time that was Blake Griffin's two seasons in Norman. Congrats on a great basketball career Blake! The full rundown follows below: 00:00 - Welcome back to the U40! U40: Are we worried about the offensive line?
The gang is back together talking spring football and this time we're really focused on the offensive line and how that might be affected some of the reports we're hearing about the quarterback position. How much concern do we have heading into the offseason? How much concern should you have if the line doesn't look great in the spring game? The Sooners are hot on the recruiting trail once again and Josh is here for all the latest, including the commitment of Maliek Hawkins just before we started the podcast. And what about the transfer portal? We all have very strong opinions about where the Sooners need to go and what they need to start doing (tampering) in the portal. The softball team is coming off their first series loss since 1907 and Bob is here to update how much of a terror Patty Gasso will be moving forward. Porter Moser also has no players on his roster but we'll talk about how aggressive the Sooners are going to be in the portal for men's hoops. Plenty of football to digest in this one. The full rundown follows below: 00:00 - Welcome back to the U40! 8:00 - 2025 Frisco Emerson CB and Sooner legacy Maliek Hawkins commits to Oklahoma 12:30 - Sooners secondary filling up in 2025 27:00 - Tough questions of spring ball 42:00 - OU defense *should* be very good; depends on interior DL 51:00 - Diamond sports talk 1:02:07 - Hoops Portal Talk 1:05:00 - 4-star DT Trent Wilson announcing Wednesday night Learn more about your ad choices. U40: Position breakdowns after three practice viewings
The whole crew is back for another thorough breakdown of spring football camp. We're just off of our third viewing of the spring and we're also full of some scrimmage intel as well. Troy Everett is lost for the spring and the early part of fall camp next season. Where do the Sooners go from here? And what do we make of the offensive line so far. There have been few glowing reviews coming out of camp and what we've seen makes it hard to tell how much of a concern this unit really is. But other positions look like they are receiving some upgrades, like on the defensive line where David Stone is getting strong reviews from Brent Venables. We also talk about the buzz surrounding true freshman QB Michael Hawkins. From what we've seen so far, we believe it. Bob joins in and we talk about OU President Joe Harroz and his "threat" to move Oklahoma basketball to another city if the city of Norman doesn't come through with a proposed entertainment district. We also breakdown what is happening with Porter Moser's roster and where he goes after losing more players this week. Josh is here for your recruiting updates and it's a huge weekend for softball at Texas and baseball in Bedlam. The full rundown follows below: 00:00 - Welcome back to the U40! 11:20 - Troy Everett out for spring ball 16:00 - Michael Hawkins has impressed 21:00 - Interior DL/Defensive end talk 48:00 - President Harroz gets a little wild with the OU Daily 59:00 - Portal Moser has his work cut out 1:10:00 - HS Recruiting w/ Josh 1:20:00 - Big weekend for Stickball Learn more about your ad choices. U40: It's spring football paradise right now
I mean, there is not a more beautiful time of the year than right now. The entire crew is here. Almost all of us have been watching spring practice with our own eyes. We had 90 minutes of viewing on Monday, we have another hour and 45 minutes after the pod today. While Eddie and George did a Practice Report on YouTube, Carey and Bob weigh in today with what they saw and Josh is here as well to talk about what he's hearing. There's just so much to talk about regarding this team. We've got some insight into some of the new staff and how they fit in with the program as well as all the player analysis you can handle. Josh is here with the latest in recruiting as always and there was just so much football to talk about but we managed to fit in some hoops, softball, baseball talk in the end. Check YouTube for a brand new stickball episode that will get more in-depth to the baseball and softball. It's a great time to pod and a great time to listen to the pod. Enjoy! U40: It's DeMarco Murray chaos during the pod
It's been a little Porter Moser heavy with his press conference the other day. It got a lot more bizarre for those that watched Virginia play last night. But we're going football heavy as Josh has had back-to-back weekends of watching OU prospects in person at Under Armour Dallas and Houston. And we're also diving into what the latest Kevin Sperry movement could mean for his commitment to OU. We actually put Josh on the spot and ask him if Sperry winds up at OU. We were also blown away at the footage of 2026 RB Jonathan Hatton in Houston. And as we started the pod there was worry that DeMarco Murray might be stolen away by Ohio State. As we were halfway through the pod we got word that Murray had made a decision and was staying with OU. Bob is also here for some hoops talk and what Porter is going to have to do in the offseason so the end of this season doesn't send the program spiraling in a negative direction. Spring is never lacking for action. And that's without football practicing this week due to spring break. The full rundown follows below: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! Spring sports is at it's height with Football, recruiting, basketball, softball and baseball and the Unofficial 40 has a lot to cover. We got to see Drake Stoops and others run their unofficial 40s at OU's Pro Day. What were our impressions? The board of regents met on Tuesday and there was salary news for Zac Alley. What does his salary say about his place in the defensive coaching pecking order? Also a big raise for offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh. We wrap up the Under Armour camp from over the weekend and talk about how many recruits are setting up official visits. It gives us a peak into what weekends the staff is setting up for big recruiting weekends. OU heads into the Big 12 tournament down some important bodies and the women put up a dud in the Big 12 Tourney. Little softball talk with Bob and baseball talk with Eddie. And we even had an appearance from Josh's oldest daughter and we planned her birthday party this summer. The full rundown follows below: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! Josh has updates on the Future Freaks recruiting event this weekend and Norman and everybody is headed to Dallas Sunday for the Under Armour camp where a lot of those freaks will be headed. U40: Spring sports, recruiting is coming and the SEC schedule
Spring is in full swing as softball, baseball are all underway while March Madness looms. The Sooners are looking better as members of the 68-team tournament after a win in Stillwater. With just a handful of games remaining, can the Sooners get one more win to make the NCAA's almost a certainty. The women can clinch the Big 12 with a home win over Texas Wednesday night! Bob Przybylo is here to talk about softball and the opening of Love's Field this weekend. Josh is here to give you all the latest on the recruiting front and George and Carey are joining in to talk SEC and next year's schedule which will be difficult. U40: OU football undergoing a change in operations
It's the whole crew locked in once again this week as we start of with the full gang, but first we get a little springy as Bob Przybylo is here to talk softball and hoops while Eddie updates us on OU's first weekend on the diamond. George joins the show and we're still talking hoops. Has the lack of support for OU hoops eroded some of the passion from the fanbase? A dinosaur arena doesn't really scream, "We care!" And are the Sooners closer to falling out of the NCAA Tournament field or staying in the field? A pretty serious state of the union discussion on OU hoops. Josh is here for all the recruiting talk and Carey is here to talk about his thoughts on what OU is doing to prepare for a new era of college football that has so many more administrative challenges than ever before with recruiting, the transfer portal, NIL, etc. How is OU navigating this new era and everything we know about how this is all being setup. Football officially ended with the Superbowl but several Sooners ended up world champions. Now we turn our attention to spring football. As soon as anyone lets us talk to anyone like maybe Zac Alley or any newcomers. Hoops is coming off a soul crushing loss. The boys try and talk out their hoops issues a lot more peacefully and respectfully this time around. And stickball is here. Softball is already underway and Kelly Maxwell shines as expected. Eddie is excited about the start of Skip Johnson's season. And Josh is here to talk about the latest in recruiting as Houston is becoming a hotbed of activity for the Sooners this year. U40: It's National Signing Day but it already happened
Carey, Josh, Eddie, George and Bob are all here and we're back in action this week. We talk about National Signing Day even though there was no big signing for OU in the second signing period. Should we just get rid of this second signing day? The guys talk about where things stand with the recruiting calendar as coaches have been on the road, junior days have happened and we've already moved on to 2005 commitments. How will all of this be affected by what is happening with the College Football Playoff and the SEC and Big Ten looking to do their own thing? Will the NCAA even be in charge much longer? We also talk about OU's latest commitment and offensive line recruiting in general. We talk with George about the Senior Bowl and the shuffling of the support staff at OU with Jay Nunez leaving for Alabama. Some heated hoops talk with the crew as Eddie, Bob and Carey chop it up about where this hoops season is headed. Softball is coming and we all have our thoughts on Toby Keith's passing as OU started to honor his memory last night at the BYU game. U40: Texas loss a kick in the teeth, OU making tons of new offers
It was a potentially huge night for OU basketball last night as the Sooners took on the Texas Longhorns in their own gym. But the Sooners didn't play with enough intensity and were beaten down until they were out. We talk about why it happened, what it all means and what does Porter Moser have to say about the loss in front of the best OU crowd of the year? We take a look at some of the recent offers that have been made by the Sooners. Josh highlighted 39 new offers this morning on SoonerScoop and we talk about some of them. What do coaches look for when they go visit players at their high schools? We talk about the QB transfer portal and how it might affect the future of quarterback recruiting in the high school ranks. And we celebrate Baker Mayfield's return to the NFL and wonder what his next stop might be. THE FULL RUNDOWN FOLLOWS BELOW: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! U40: 2025 recruiting is all about the OL class
The gang is back and we're talking about the hot issues on the Crimson Corner lately: OU and NIL. Can it be better? And who is supposed to make it better? We usually try and avoid a lot of NIL talk but it's time for the fanbase to get back to the basics on how this all works. Alabama has some big names hitting the portal as well. But would the Sooners be players for more high profile portal transfers? We're also talking about the 2025 recruiting class that is going very, very well at this point. And speaking of the program's biggest issue right now, there are a ton of offensive lineman available in the class of 2025. Josh tells us how the Sooners are faring with the biggest names out there in 2025. Bob is here for some hoops talk as OU gets a very winnable game tonight in the LNC. And Zac Alley has been officially announced as OU's next DC. His salary will give a good indication of whether he really is seen as the new lead dog on defense. The full rundown follows below: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! U40: Frustrations over the portal and NIL growing
We start out the show with a big announcement of two new additions to the Scoop family. The crew is all here and we're trying to figure out OU's position and standing with NIL and the transfer portal. Is OU willing to pay what it takes to land big-time transfers? Is Brent Venables unwilling to deal with transfers who are seeking top dollar? It's a philosophical discussion about OU's philosophy on the transfer portal. Meanwhile, Lane Kiffin is on a boat landing everyone he wants. Can the Sooners close on any of these key offensive line targets in the portal? Sooner hoops is set to take on TCU and Kansas on the road as they try and remain a top 10 team. Bob Przybylo is here to breakdown what is ahead for Porter and the boys. U40: Alamo Bowl Preview show from San Antonio
Eddie, George and Carey met up after this morning's coaches press conferences to breakdown the matchup with Arizona and talk about everything they've learned this week while in San Antonio. Jackson Arnold's debut is the main headline, but the defense shows up to the Alamodome almost fully intact and ready to show what they can do against an explosive Arizona defense. Could Woodi Washington join Danny Stutsman and Billy Bowman and return to Oklahoma for another season? How do we feel about the offensive line heading into this one? And how do we feel about the newcomers we saw this week during practice? All that and more in this edition of the Unofficial 40. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
U40: The pod where we all kind of fall apart after signing day
As you can tell by Eddie's rundown, he basically boycotted the pod today. We also had some audio issues between the 42:00-43:00 mark but it was quickly fixed when George took over for Bob. We hit on national signing day and got into some of Josh's thoughts about the biggest early impact players in the class. Could Danny Okoye be a better player early than David Stone? We had a strange hoops conversation with some awkward fighting. Carey addressed the whole Dillon Gabriel controversy even though there wasn't one as we found out later in the day when we interviewed Dillon. George then came on the pod and told us he was burnt out on OU football this week and wanted to talk about other stuff. Josh and Carey talked whiskey. George went to a Birthday party and we're looking forward to a couple of days off before heading to San Antonio for the Alamo Bowl. Josh decided we didn't have enough Alamo knowledge and decided to give us some. We may have peaked this week. Merry Christmas everybody! U40: Trying to make sense of the Cayden Green situation
The full gang is here and we're trying to make sense of the situation with Cayden Green. He just snuck out of Headington Hall without telling a soul and left his teammates wondering what happened. Hell, he left everyone wondering what happened. We talk about yesterday's open practice portion as well as Jackson Arnold's first start against Arizona in the Alamo Bowl. And what is this offensive line looking like heading into the bowl game? How does it look next year? How is this going to get fixed? Bill Bedenbaugh has some work to do. National signing day is almost here and coaches are out on the visit trail. Josh has the latest from that side of the program. We also finally wrap up the return of Danny Stutsman and Billy Bowman who had their chances to talk to the media for the first time since announcing their decisions. We've even got a little hoops talk for you as the 11th ranked Sooners are getting ready to take on North Carolina next week. The full rundown follows below: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! U40: Who is OU targeting in the portal and SoonerHoop.com
The OU men's hoops team is 8-0 and Bob Przybylo is here to talk about what Porter Moser has cooking inside the Lloyd Noble Arena (maybe he will accidently burn it down). And we're mainly here for transfer portal talk as we talk over the main targets we're seeing early at tight end, defensive line and even offensive line. We also talk Dillon Gabriel and what led to his decision to play another year of college football and why it wasn't at OU. You can't ignore that OU is taking a risk here. We get into some high school recruiting as well as Josh says OU still has a real shot at a five-star defensive lineman. The changes at A&M continue to open up OU's chances to land some elite talent on the defensive side of the ball. Also some typical office shenanigans and Carey thought George looked nice yesterday and we've never been more uncomfortable talking about it. U40: New offensive staff is set, transfer portal gets going soon
The full crew is back this week as Carey, Josh, Eddie, George and Bob all take part in the show. That's right! Bob Przybylo has made his triumphant return following his battle with the black plague. He drops in to get us ready to root for some hoops this season as the Sooners are finally in the AP Top 25 for the first time under Porter Moser. We also hit some more on the new coaching hires as they became official just after our podcast finished taping. The transfer portal is opening and the Sooners will have some definite targets to chase. Some decent names are already starting to enter. Where do the Sooners look first? We also talk about Jackson Arnold's reaction to the Seth Littrell/Joe Jon Finley hires. And is concern over Kevin Sperry? Josh takes us down the recruiting road and Grant Brix is probably best to be where he is. And guess what Josh? He did like the equipment truck! And George spends his time on the U40 taking shots at Eddie apparently. The full rundown follows below: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! U40: DG should finish on Owen Field, but we're prepared for Jackson Arnold
The OGs are back at it again this week because it's a compressed week and Bob and George have to write, write and write some more. Carey, Josh and Eddie, the original U40 crew is back to fight a little bit. Carey is fighting with the Crimson Corner on the pod again. Josh is trying to play peacemaker and Eddie is just stirring the pot as usual. The guys also try and help Carey fill out his Maxwell and Nagurski ballots. And the biggest question of the week. Will it be Dillon Gabriel or Jackson Arnold throwing passes to Drake Stoops in his final regular season game as an Oklahoma Sooner. We also talk about national and Big 12 awards season and the transfer portal is opening soon. Marcus Hicks has already announced his intentions to enter. Who would be surprise entries into the portal? We throw around some ideas. And Josh is here with the latest in recruiting and particularly Grant Brix. Is Oklahoma finally getting off the Brix wagon? And what about the A&M situation? We also make sure to give you plenty of TCU talk since we got killed for not talking any BYU last week. Where do the Sooners have the edge this weekend? The rundown follows below: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! U40: OU still in the hunt for Big 12 title game
It's BYU week and the Sooners set out to see how many refs will be throwing flags this weekend. We're kidding. Maybe. We talk about the uneasiness surrounding Oklahoma and the Big 12 Conference. The Big 12 went ahead and changed their tiebreaker rules, even though they continue to say they are just clarifying what the rules already are. Where does that leave Oklahoma? What has to happen for the Sooners to end up in Arlington for the Big 12 Championship? Also, did the Big 12 plot for Eddie's elevator to fail just before Brent Venables' weekly press conference. We though we lost him for no minute. Could any OU assistants get caught up in the coaching carousel that has only just begun? Eddie had some thoughts on the Porter Moser 3-0 hoops team after catching them in action last night and Josh is here for your recruiting addictions. We pod! The full rundown follows below: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40. U40: WVU week brings back the OG podcast. Carey, Josh and Eddie
West Virginia is ahead for the Sooners, but Josh and Carey weigh in on everything they've heard this week in regards to the state of OU's football program. It's also a throwback episode to the original Unofficial 40 crew that started it all over 9 years ago. So we start from the top. We go back and look at Bedlam and where this program is on offense and defense. No panic, no proclamations of impending doom. Just some level-headed discussion of what we're seeing. We also talk about how the coaching staff is handling things personally. George's steely response from Brent Venables during yesterday's presser and the public missteps that have happened recently with Venables and Lebby. We also dive back into Bedlam, what we saw and what it means moving forward. We also want to shower some praise on some of the good things we're seeing. Like Kip Lewis. U40: Time for OU's defensive line to step up in Bedlam
Josh, Carey, Eddie, George and Bob are back for another full crew episode. We're putting Kansas in the rearview mirror and moving on to Oklahoma State. The college football playoff rankings have been released and it at least gives the Sooners a path back to relevance. But that won't mean anything if the Sooners defensive front doesn't get that chip back on their shoulder as they did against Texas. Oklahoma State's running game and Ollie Gordon will test the Sooners who may or may not have Danny Stutsman in the middle. And if they do have him, how effective can he be? Bob Przybylo is here with his first basketball update of the season as the Sooners tip off tonight with a scrimmage that is free to everyone. We talk about the new faces in the program and try to paint a picture of what this team is going to look like. Josh has the latest in recruiting and the latest on offensive lineman Grant Brix, who many believed was on the verge of committing to Nebraska after his trip. U40: Sooners can build toward CFP run at KU
We're back to work covering another game on the road and we wouldn't have it any other way. The entire crew gets together for this family dinner of podcasting goodness. And we're doing it with half the building recovering from a flood. Josh trolled USC earlier this week on the YouTube recruiting roundup show and we do weigh in on the public mess that is happening in Lala land. We also talk about the sign stealing scandal at Michigan. Do we expect the NCAA to do anything about it? But we're really here to talk OU football and we look ahead to the matchup in Lawrence, Kansas, this weekend. What is going on at the running back position after the suspension of Tawee Walker? Will it be Gavin Sawchuk or could another name appear that we haven't been talking about lately? Josh breaks down what he has seen after film breakdown on the offensive line. Is Savion Byrd ready to finally step up on the right side of the line without Mettauer? We also get into a bit of recruiting with the visit of Reggie Powers last weekend. Also, has Nebraska reached desperation levels with Grant Brix? All that and more in this week's episode of the Unofficial 40. The rundown follows below: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40!
