OU versus Florida might happen, it might not because everyone is going home for Christmas. And you have to be fine with that! We record before Camar Wheaton makes an announcement and we still don't know if there is one or who it will be? Who will go and who will stay next year? Will anyone join Tre Brown? We got nothing definitive during yesterday's meetings with players. And who else will Florida be missing when these two "play" in the bowl game? U40: Signing Day review, All Big 12 teams pissed off everybody
EJust before we started our podcast today the Big 12 released their All Big 12 team as voted on by the league coaches. And OU didn't have a single player on the 1st team defense. They were nearly shutout of the season awards as well. We give our takes on how we felt just moments after the release. We've got a signing day review as well with Josh McCuistion and the rest of the gang. What did Lincoln Riley and Alex Grinch think of the recruiting haul? And did we lose a little perspective on just how good this class was because everyone was only concerned with the final decisions of a few players? The Sooners will move on to play Iowa State in the Big 12 Championship game next week in Arlington. Or could they play this weekend? Lincoln Riley met with the local beat writers this afternoon and said he would play Ohio State this weekend if Ryan Day called him. But he also kind of said that would be very difficult to pull off. So he sort of said, 'Bring on Ohio State, but probably not.' It is signing day next week and Bob and Josh give you the full rundown of what is happening on the recruiting trail. We also try not to talk about the OU basketball team's sound defeat at the hands of Xavier last night. Will you make Josh's Christmas card list? EThe Unofficial 40 returns for a holiday sized edition and we had plenty to talk about. Josh and Bob finally get to weigh in on Bedlam, we breakdown the win and look ahead to West Virginia. Plenty of talk about the randomness that is Bookie as well. We also talk about the latest on the recruiting front and why things are so different this year in terms of info. Carey might be on the verge of a mental breakdown because of zoom interviews but the news about 'Coonsie' the walking racoon had everyone very excited. EIt's been a two week wait but Bedlam is finally here. Or will it be? The guys give the latest on where things stand with COVID and injuries. Will Austin Stogner be available for OSU? Lincoln Riley says Spencer Rattler is back to 100%. While everyone believes OU's defensive line versus OSU's offensive line is the biggest advantage in this game, can Spencer Rattler finally prove he's taken the next step against a very good OSU defense? This isn't TCU, Texas Tech or Kansas. This will be a real challenge for Lincoln Riley on the OU offense. We're missing Josh this week because he's moving so no big recruiting segment. This one is all about Bedlam. Carey, Eddie and Bob bring it home in this week's Unofficial 40. U40: Bedlam needed this bye week. But OU's DL vs. OSU's OL is a problem
EWhy do women make men buy new mattresses when they get married? What deep dark secret is Carey Murdock holding that makes his neighborhood hate him? Did Eddie kill his barber? Also, it's a bye week and this week's slate of Big 12 games is not very good. But next week it is on and title matchups could be decided between Iowa State, OU, OSU and Kansas State! It was a little slow on the football front with no football this week, but even though Josh can't stop buying houses and moving, he did give us a breakdown of a recent big-time recruiting trip to St. Louis and might have people concerned about one of OU's biggest defensive line commitments. It's also national signing day for Lon Kruger and OU hoops. Bob kind of joins from the road where he was headed to see Bijan Cortes. The full rundown follows below: 00:00 - Hello and welcome. U40: Perkins and Stevenson add lots of muscle for stretch run
EOn this week's Unofficial 40 podcast we go back and breakdown how big the addtitions of Ronnie Perkins and Rhamondre Stevenson can be for the Sooners down the final stretch of the season. Is OU in the driver's seat? Maybe not completely. But things are looking up for OU's chances to play in the Big 12 title game. And it appears Spencer Rattler and the OU offense have developed a little bit of swagger coming out of Lubbock. It's been a different type of season, but OU is looking like a complete team for the first time all season and one of the more complete teams we've seen in years if the defense continues to build. The guys have been out on the recruiting trail quite a bit as well. With coaches unable to go out and see kids, we're pretty much all you get from in-person scouting. Josh and Bob talk about their recent trips including a big one coming up for Josh this weekend. It's Kansas week, which means we're drinking more than usual. Well, maybe the elections had something to do with that. We're all going to be paying attention to see if the defense can put another solid performance on tape. ECarey and Eddie got their licks in on the OU loss to Kansas State on the Eskridge Lexus postgame podcast. Now Josh and Bob get to join in with their impressions of what went wrong. The defense, the offensive line, the quarterback, the running backs, the receivers. Nothing goes without being broken down after the 38-35 loss. Can the Sooners turn things around and fix the problems before taking on Iowa State this weekend? Also, where is Alex Grinch with this defense right now? Are they mentally in the tank? And the turnovers are still unbelievable. At least, the lack of them. We also hit on the commitment of Jalil Farooq as well as the latest scouting trips across the region. Alex Grinch and the defense took center stage as the secondary and the defensive line gets a tougher test this week. We also found out LIncoln Riley was not happy about the extension of the dead period and we wonder what kind of fallout no visits with an early signing period will have over the next year. EIt has been a crazy few days. Lincoln Riley sent his players home this weekend and we didn't know if they'd ever practice football again in 2020. The Big Ten cancelled their season. Can spring football even happen? So much has happened and we haven't even gotten to recruiting. Oklahoma high school practices are underway and we'll have you covered there as well. Where are we heading? And Josh got his dream pod today. He got to have dad talk and air grievances. It was definitely his day for a COVID therapy session. It got really dorky. U40: If you start playing better defense at OU, you start getting paid
EWell, last week we got pretty controversial with our takes on the Sooner Summit, or at least the potential of the Sooner Summit. This week, Josh McCuistion joins back in and gives his take on what is fact from fiction. We also breakdown the Caleb Williams factor in recruiting and whether it's fair or not that fans are placing so many expectations on him to sign top players from all over the country. The OU Board of Regents voted for raises for all football assistants this week and Alex Grinch is getting paid like one of the top defensive coordinators in the country. It appears the administration is more than happy with the way SpeedD is starting to develop under Grinch. We also get a little bit of basketball breakdown and we talk about COVID19 and it's affect on playing a season. EIt's an exciting time of the year (at least when hoops isn't blowing free throws at the end of games) as spring football begins next week and big-time recruits are flying in and out of Norman. We get you caught up on last weekend's recruiting weekend, some eyeball emojis that went out from Lincoln Riley and what's to come on the recruiting trail. We also dive into OU's Pro Day coming up this week as it seems Jalen Hurts will workout in Norman. We also talk about how much this will mean to Parnell Motley who wasn't invited to the combine. There's plenty of spring football to preview as well. Is Spencer Rattler ready to take over the offense? What players and positions are we most looking forward to keeping track of? We hit on all the key spring notes in this edition of the MidFirst Bank Unofficial 40 podcast.
