Narelda Jacobs grew up in a big, rambunctious family. Her mother, an Irish trailblazer, came out to Australia and married Narelda's dad, a member of the Stolen Generation who went on to become a religious minister. Narelda Jacobs is a proud Whadjuk Noongar woman and there’s so much to her story: a strictly religious upbringing, four older sisters, teen pregnancy, a shotgun marriage, a divorce…..there are many plot twists in her life and she recounts them with such warmth, wisdom and humour. Imagine being ousted from your community, from your family, your whole life, because of a condition you'd developed during childbirth. A condition that most Australian women can have fixed relatively quickly and easily.  Dr Catherine Hamlin wasn't having any of that. She and her husband created the legendary Hamlin Fistula Hospital and began saving women's lives back in the 1960s.  Over her sixty years in Africa, Catherine became a national treasure of Ethiopia and Australia and we didn't want her recent death to pass without remembering her remarkable life. We wanted to update and revisit an interview I did with Holocaust survivor, Eddie Jaku, who describes himself as The Happiest Man Alive. Today his 100th birthday (I called up his granddaughter Danielle to find out how he's planning to celebrate) but as well as that, people are looking for wisdom and perspective and joy right now. Eddie is full of life, advice and stories about a world few people remember. A world that few people survived. A world that many people want to forget about. But not Eddie. The first time Simi Polonsky Hoffman was on No Filter, she was deep in grief.  Her husband, Shua, had died of a sudden illness, leaving her with two children and another on the way. Before they met one another, Kate Jones and Mandy Hose were both pregnant with twins at the same time. Ellie Cole lost her leg to cancer when she was just 3 years old and shortly after, her family received a list of things from the doctor that she wouldn't be able to do. The list included things like rollerblading and riding a bike but Ellie had other plans. Ellie doesn't remember much about losing her leg and she grew up with a family who treated her like everyone else, so she set about ticking off every single item on that doctor's list. When Louisa Hope walked into Sydney’s Lindt Cafe 5 years ago she didn't expect her life would change forever. Louisa is one of the Sydney Siege survivors. She and her mother were held at gunpoint and trapped for 17 hours before the gunman executed cafe manager Tori Johnston on his knees in front of her. Another hostage, Katrina Dawson was killed moments later in gunfire when police stormed the cafe. Louisa joins Mia Freedman to talk through what happened that day and how she feels five years on. Towards the end of the siege, Louisa was shot in the foot and went to The Prince of Wales Hospital where she spent 3 months as a patient. For 10 years Nicole Lee and her children were trapped, living with an abusive partner who was also Nicole's primary carer. Nicole uses a wheelchair and what began as a whirlwind romance turned toxic after the birth of their first child.
