S1 Ep 243Credibility: The Hallmark Of Great Leaders
Episode #243 // Whatever you try to achieve as a leader relies, at least to some extent, on your credibility. If you have strong personal credibility, it makes everything you do inordinately easier. Credibility galvanizes your team… it instills confidence in the people above you… and it ultimately becomes an integral part of your leadership brand. Without it, every yard you manage to move forward feels hard. There’s no shortage of smart executives in the world, but there are very few great leaders. Credibility is the hallmark of all great leaders. Without exception, great leaders have high personal credibility…It's the type of credibility that’s founded in their competence, their values, their leadership approach and, ultimately, their results. And everyone around them notices—you can feel the difference! In this episode, I expose the key differences between those who are just smart executives, and those who are great leaders. And, with this as the foundation, I reveal some of the critical elements required to successfully build and maintain your personal leadership credibility.————————FREE 5 DAY LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE: Want to boost your leadership capability? Moment #13: Struggling With Simple Decisions?
Moment #13 // Do you have decision fatigue? During the course of every day, our brains are forced to make thousands of decisions, big and small. The cumulative effect of all these decisions is mental fatigue, which can result in poor judgment and irrational decision making, even when faced with relatively simple decisions. But using the decision fatigue label provides an excuse for not dealing with something that we should actually deal with. Making decisions is part of life, it's part of business, and in any senior career you need to be adept at making decisions when they need to be made. You can take a deeper dive into these insights by listening to Ep.80: Decision Fatigue.————————FREE 5 DAY LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE: Want to boost your leadership capability? S1 Ep 242Leading Older Workers: Capturing the value opportunity
Episode #242 // The question we used to ask only occasionally has now become more frequent… “how old is too old?” While most countries still regard the retirement age for the average citizen to be somewhere in their early to mid-60s, one of the big societal trends in wealthier countries is the aging population. As the population ages, many people will choose to work for longer, either to satisfy their need for purpose, or through financial necessity. The bottom line for leaders is that you’re going to be in a position where you have to lead older workers, and integrate them into a team culture that spans at least three generations. In this episode, I explore how to get the best from older workers, not to be put off by the challenge of leading them. I present some of the data on how population and demographics are changing across the world, I examine the strategic potential for value differentiation, and I give you my Six Tips for Getting the Most From Older Workers (which will be available as a free PDF downloadable).Source Material: Article: Centre for Retirement Research at BCHow Does Delayed Retirement Affect Mortality and Health?Research: Our World in DataMedian AgeResearch: Our World in DataAge StructureThe EconomistThe Age of the Grandparent Has ArrivedWikipediaRetirement Age (by Country)————————FREE 5 DAY LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE: Want to boost your leadership capability? Moment #12: Blaming Others Doesn’t Help
Moment #12 // Blaming others when something doesn’t go to plan is one of the most insidious leadership behaviors. It’s a cancer in your culture that has to be eradicated. When a leader tolerates the blame game, excuses become the norm, and organizational politics thrives. You have to learn how to deliver bad news, even when your boss doesn’t want to hear about it. Equally, you have to encourage your people by rewarding those who choose to take the path of strength and proactiveness, creating a “no blame, no excuses” culture! You can take a deeper dive into these insights by listening to Ep.158: The Blame Game.————————FREE 5 DAY LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE: Want to boost your leadership capability? S1 Ep 241Need More People? Here's how to convince your boss
Ep #241 // It’s always been a tough ask to get your boss to provide additional resources, whether it’s money, people, or assets. And it’s certainly not getting any easier in the current environment.Businesses in virtually every sector of the economy are being squeezed with rising costs, high interest rates, and a bear labor market. The mantra of doing more with less has never been more pronounced than it is right now: it’s simply the default position, whether by design, or by sheer necessity. So, you think you need more people to help you achieve the things you’re accountable for delivering? How would you know if this was a sensible move? And if you’re confident that it is essential, how would you sell that concept to your boss, and get the green light to bring on more people? This episode provides a definitive view of the resource landscape, so that you know how to approach any conversation at any level: and this will guide you, whether you’re proposing the case yourself, or deciding whether or not to accept a request from one of your people.————————FREE 5 DAY LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE: Want to boost your leadership capability? Moment #11: What Standard Are YOU Setting?
Moment #11 // One of the most important roles that a leader plays is to set the right standards for performance and behavior. Sometimes, we think we're setting an appropriately high performance standard, but the exceptions we make indicate otherwise. How do you actually set the standard? And if it’s higher than people are used to, how do you communicate what you need from them? Never walk past an inferior standard of performance or behavior—it either builds or breaks your culture! You can take a deeper dive into these insights by listening to Ep.44: The Standard You Walk Past Is the Standard You Set.————————FREE 5 DAY LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE: Want to boost your leadership capability? S1 Ep 240The Talented Jerk: How much should you tolerate?
Episode #240 // We’ve all come across people during our careers who are really good at what they do, but are just awful to work with. They seem to think that their superior performance gives them the license to behave in any manner they see fit, and they don’t observe the usual social protocols that are essential in maintaining a stable team.Talented jerks come in many different shapes and sizes: there’s no one-size-fits-all description of how they show up in a team. Some are just terminally annoying, and you feel as though you want to roll your eyes every time they talk. Others are willfully destructive, and appear to be pushing the company’s leadership to see just how far they’ll be allowed to go before they’re brought into line.Today’s episode is pretty simple: I identify five common types of talented jerk, and give you some ideas for how to approach each situation so that you remain in control, and neutralize their impact on team culture.————————FREE 5 DAY LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE: Want to boost your leadership capability? Moment #10: Why Is Respect Before Popularity So Crucial?
Moment #8 // If you need to be liked, and you have aspirations of being a leader, you’re going to find yourself in trouble pretty quickly. Virtually everything you do as a leader puts you into a potential conflict situation.Seeking popularity will stunt your leadership growth, dull your decision-making, and feed your tendency to procrastinate. Popularity doesn’t matter… respect does, which is why you need to be comfortable with the concept of doing hard things that may make you unpopular. S1 Ep 239Leading In a Low Performance Culture: Can it work?
Episode #239 // The proverbial high performing team has become a leadership cliché, and I can’t count the number of leaders who claim to have built a high performing team (often, despite objective evidence to the contrary). But what if the culture you’re leading in is actually a low performance culture? We get lots of questions from leaders about the difficulties they have applying basic performance management principles and, more often than not, the root cause is a pervasive, low performance culture. It can be particularly difficult to swim against the tide in these types of organizations and, as a leader, you have to decide what type of team you want, what type of results you want, and what you want your leadership brand to ultimately stand for.In today’s episode, I give you a process that will help you to assess your culture for signs of endemic low performance… I explain why it can be so hard to improve low performance cultures… and I give you some tips for where to start if you decide to take on the challenge of leading in a low performance culture.————————FREE 5 DAY LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE: Want to boost your leadership capability? Moment #9: High-Performing Teams Start With High-Performing Individuals
Moment #9 // Many leaders claim to have built high-performing teams but, in my experience, most can’t even clearly articulate what a high-performing team is! And if you really want to build a high performing team—then there’s going to be some pretty tough leadership work ahead. Many leaders fall at the first hurdle: high-performing teams are comprised of high-performing individuals: no passengers, no tourists! S1 Ep 238Navigating Toxic Work Cultures & Office Politics: Q&A with Marty and Em
Episode #238 // Leadership drives culture, culture drives performance.Today, we look at a few very common team culture dynamics, and give some perspectives for how you might be able to handle these situations, when you find yourself in the middle of them. The first is the incredibly common phenomenon of the supposed star performer who ‘manages up’ brilliantly, but doesn’t actually deliver… and the boss is too weak, or too conflict-averse to hold them to account—they’d rather let the rest of the team bear the brunt, as long as the work is getting done somehow. The second focuses on organizational politics, and how deceptive behavior can be leveraged for advantage by those who concentrate more on politics than value creation. In this Q&A episode, I give some incredibly practical tips for how to handle each of these situations, including some of the conversations you’ll probably need to have, and the killer questions you can ask.————————FREE 5 DAY LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE: Want to boost your leadership capability? Moment #8: Permissive Leaders Make People Unproductive AND Unhappy
Moment #8 // Permissive Leaders Make People Unproductive AND UnhappyI've seen the devastating effects of laissez-faire leaders. They seem to think that if you keep people happy, they’ll naturally give you their best work. In my experience, this is almost never the case. Worse still, these leaders often mistake a constructive culture, to mean you can only say positive things to people. Make no mistake, there's nothing soft about a constructive culture. It only exists when a leader demands the best from every individual, and is prepared to stretch them to achieve things they never thought they could. S1 Ep 237Hiring Better People: Are personality profiles useful?
Episode #237 // If you feel as though you’re struggling to hire the right people at the moment, this episode will rebuild your faith in the process, despite the current labor market dynamics.Unfortunately, a few poorly-timed or unexpected resignations can leave critical gaps in your capability. And this feels even worse when you place an ad on an online job board expecting an influx of high-quality candidates, only to hear the sound of tumbleweeds sweeping across the tundra. This can affect your mood, and one of the worrying side-effects of this is that you may begin to feel as though you have to keep all your current employees. You begin to manage your people differently, and lower the standards so you don’t scare any of them off. This episode covers a huge amount of ground:I address the question, “Why is hiring so difficult?”;I explain how you can use aptitude and psych testing to reduce your risk of hiring the wrong person; andI give you my 6 rules of thumb for executing the hiring process so that you can begin to hire better people————————FREE 5 DAY LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE: Want to boost your leadership capability? S1 Ep 236It’s All In the Mind: The mental game of leadership
Episode #236 // Have you ever wondered why people who are clearly at the top of their game all of a sudden have a steep decline in performance? Things that they’ve been able to routinely do at an elite level all of a sudden seem to be beyond their reach.I saw an example of this just recently, where a professional NFL footballer inexplicably lost the plot. His physical abilities were no different after the slump in form as they were prior to the slump. But it looked like his mental state was night-and-day different! What happens if you have a crisis of confidence in your own leadership? There’s a big difference between having healthy doubts, and having the sort of mental collapse that hijacks your very ability to perform. In this episode, I discuss those differences, and give you some tactics for dealing with any performance declines so that, at worst, they’re short-lived, and at best you emerge from them even stronger than before.Resources referenced:ESPN WebsiteBrett Maher 2022 NFL Statsspotrac.comBrett Maher SalaryWikipediaIan Baker-FinchNo Bullsh!t LeadershipEp.229 Confidence, Arrogance, and Self-doubt————————FREE 5 DAY LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE: Want to boost your leadership capability? Episode #235 // Momentum is really picking up for Your CEO Mentor in 2023, so in this episode I thought I’d share our plans for the evolution of No Bullsh!t Leadership.Of course, the fundamentals will remain the same. Our purpose keeps us focused on delivering practical, high-quality content every week to cut through the spin, the noise, and the political correctness that dominate today’s world of leadership development. We’re here for one reason, and one reason only: to improve the quality of leaders, globally. They aren’t going anywhere, and we’re constantly thinking of ways to keep them as relevant and fresh today as they were when we started the business over four years ago. Having said all of that, living in the US has been a bit of an eye-opener for me, and my focus is shifting slightly, as I look to leverage my presence in the world’s premier market. It gets a life of its own, because people get emotionally attached to it, and they protect it. “Busy Work” is activity that keeps you occupied, but doesn't necessarily create value. It's justifiable to anyone who happens to look, based on the hours of effort it consumes. But is it useful? S1 Ep 234Employee to Entrepreneur: The Art of Self-Leadership with Amy Porterfield
Episode #234 // Without Amy Porterfield there would be no Your CEO Mentor, no No Bullsh!t Leadership podcast and no Leadership Beyond the Theory, the program that has transformed thousands of leaders on six continents!Amy’s work laid the foundations for our business model, and it’s her content that enabled Em to develop the strategy that convinced me to quit my CEO gig and start this business, following my true calling. I was incredibly fortunate to have a deeply insightful conversation with Amy, as we talk through her business journey (over $80 million in revenue from online course sales over the past 14 years) and her view on why self-leadership is so critical if you want to take control of your career, be it in the corporate world or as an entrepreneur. We cover so much in this interview: * How to bridge the gap between a brilliant idea and a profitable business * The key to long term success when starting something new* How to consistently innovate* Why it’s important to be in the ‘right room’ of people, and how to get there * The most valuable piece of advice she received from Tony Robbins (this is GOLD) * Maximizing productivity with an all-virtual workforce And so much more! Moment #4 // It’s great to lead from the front, but you have to understand what that means. You can’t do your people’s work for them, only to say, "I'm leading from the front.”That’s not leading from the front, and it’s not setting a virtuous example. Just the opposite. S1 Ep 233The 4-Day Work Week: Q&A with Marty and Em
Episode #233 // Workforce layoffs have continued in the US, as large companies trim the fat in advance of the recession that looks likely to head our way. But the latest data on economic growth and jobs are more positive than most commentators expected.Europe is leading the way, with some better than expected growth figures, and the US added almost 600,000 jobs to the economy in January, which will keep an already tight labor market highly strung. So, with US unemployment at a 50-plus-year low, it could be a seller’s market for some time to come.Meanwhile, we continue to field questions every day from listeners who are navigating their own challenges, with a backdrop of highly-complex and fast-moving shifts in workforce dynamics. In today’s Q&A episode, we’re going to look at some of the phenomena that you’re likely to be wrestling with at the moment, starting with the new push to establish the 4-day work week as a standard in many companies. We also take on the difficult topic of shift workers. Moment #3: Why Most Leaders Avoid Hard Conversations
Moment #3 // Why Most Leaders Avoid Hard ConversationsWhy do so many leaders choose to avoid hard conversations? It's much more about a lack of will than a lack of skill. Avoiding interpersonal conflict isn’t that hard, and it’s easy to rationalize why you don’t need to do it. S1 Ep 232What Motivates Your People? Revisiting a critical truth
Episode #232 // Motivation can be pretty tricky. Trying to work out what you can do to help your people reach a state of motivation and stay there for a little while is more complicated than it sounds.Should you try to make them happy? Should you pay them more? Should you lavish them with praise and positive feedback? The truth about what motivates people might surprise you. Interestingly, the path to motivation isn’t an easy one, and it’s not a path that many people will tread of their own accord. But there are some things you can do that are relatively simple, which have a high success rate. It’s just that, like all the best leadership stuff, it’s not easy, and it forces you to face the spectre of not being liked. That’s enough to turn many leaders off the concept altogether! In this episode, I look at the changing world of work, and how the challenge of motivating your people may have changed. S1 Ep 231Talent Management: Planning for the future
Episode #231 // If you’re a regular listener of No Bullsh!t Leadership, you’ll know that I speak about talent frequently, in a range of different contexts. But the word “talent” is so overused these days that it’s hard to differentiate between the real work of nurturing and developing your best people, and the more mundane aspects of running a business. There’s a number of critical components to understanding and managing the talent you have—and you won’t know who your real talent is unless you implement a robust process across the whole team.Sometimes, as busy as we are, we rationalize that it’s easier just to leave talent growth to happen organically. We tell ourselves that all our people are excellent, and we avoid the hard work of leadership. But if you want your team to perform at its peak, it’s virtually impossible without a focus on performance and talent management. In this episode, I cover the foundations of talent management, providing an overview of the five distinct elements that you need to have in order to make it work. S1 Ep 230Too Many Cooks: Managing complex accountabilities
Episode #230 // In this modern era of enlightened inclusiveness, the pendulum has swung decisively from independently operating silos towards sharing and collaboration. This has seen the resurgence of role sharing, at all levels, in organizations of all sizes.Collaboration is a critical ingredient to working successfully in the complex organizations we now live in. But what happens when accountabilities are split to the point where they become opaque, confused, or misunderstood? From low-level, part-time job sharing to co-CEOs of major global businesses, we witness the hazards of trying to share accountabilities. Humans just aren’t particularly good at it, for all sorts of reasons. If you just want your people to be able to come to work, and feel good about contributing in a team environment with their peers, then shared accountabilities are just the ticket. But, if it’s performance you’re after, it’s very unlikely that you’ll find it in a structure that assumes accountabilities can be spread across multiple people. In this episode, I look at a number of different job-sharing models, and some of the problems they can create. And, of course being a practical podcast, I outline my 3-step process for structuring an accountable team.Source Material: Previous No Bullsh!t Leadership EpisodeWhat is Strong Leadership?Fast Company Article Bret Taylor Leaves SalesforceWSJ ArticleTension Between Benioff and Taylor GrewAcceleration Economy Network ArticleCo-CEO Model is DeadBloomberg Interview (YouTube)McDermott and Hagemann Snabe discuss co-CEO model————————FREE 5 DAY LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE: Want to boost your leadership capability? S1 Ep 229Confidence, Arrogance, and Self-Doubt: The fine lines we tread
Episode #229 // In the world of modern leadership, we’re conditioned to believe that humility is the most essential characteristic we can possess. And there’s no doubt that some measure of humility is important. But it’s easy to misinterpret this to mean that we shouldn’t display confidence… that confidence is somehow the enemy of humility.Nothing could be further from the truth and, in my experience, a leader who lacks confidence can be just as dangerous as a leader who lacks humility. In this episode, I give you a window into my own journey from leadership arrogance to quiet confidence, and I get right under the hood to examine some critical questions: Why is it so important for a leader to develop a level of confidence? What’s the difference between confidence and arrogance? and,How do you overcome the self-doubt that paralyzes many leaders?————————FREE 5 DAY LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE: Want to boost your leadership capability? S1 Ep 228Resilience Myths: What really makes you stronger?
Episode #228 // Since the Covid pandemic, resilience has captured a much greater share of our collective consciousness. And, as tends to happen, the world now seems to be flooded with “resilience experts”, who profess to be able to teach us how to handle the most difficult situations effortlessly. I’m not an expert in resilience per se, but through my own journey I can confidently say that I’ve become an incredibly resilient person. Maybe it just comes with a little age and maturity—but very little fazes me. Over the course of my corporate career, I became very comfortable handling all sorts of crises, while operating at the highest levels. And, if you were to ask the people who worked closely with me over the years, I’m sure they’d tell you that I’m extremely calm under pressure. So, in this world of trite and pedestrian advice on how to become more resilient, I was happy to find a beacon of hope. Steve Magness released a book just a few months ago called “Do Hard Things: Why We Get Resilience Wrong and the Surprising Science of Real Toughness”.In this episode, I look at a few of the principles Magness outlines in the book which, in my opinion, beautifully describe the relationship between the choices we make and our level of resilience. I also examine the link between routine and resilience, and I give you my top four hacks for learning how to do hard things. S1 Ep 227Leadership in 2023: What will we be navigating?
Episode #227 // At the end of each year, I usually spend some time studying a variety of sources to come up with a view on possible future outcomes in business, politics, and society. In this episode, I take a look at what’s likely ahead for leaders in 2023 and, without making any fearless predictions, give you some sense of where the world appears to be heading. Remember, trend is your friend! Rather than just making judgments based on a snapshot at any given point in time, it’s more useful to see which way an issue has been trending over time. From sources as diverse as The Economist, Wall Street Journal, Australian Financial Review, Wikipedia, and the Good Judgment website, I take a look at the macroeconomic drivers that will shape our leadership environment in 2023.I also summarize some perspectives from an outstanding lecture I attended at Harvard Business School, and take a lighthearted look at the new jargon we’ll be using more frequently this year.————————FREE 5 DAY LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE: Want to boost your leadership capability? S1 Ep 225Handling Layoffs Competently: Protecting your talent
Episode #225 // The restructuring and layoff season appears to be in full swing… and many of the examples that are popping up in the public domain feel a little chaotic and destructive. Since then, we’ve come through the Great Resignation, moved onto Quiet Quitting, and now we’re seeing mass layoffs. And the net result of all this? The latest figures in the US show a steep decline in productivity. S1 Ep 222The Power of Simplicity: Unlocking performance
EEpisode #222 // We live in a complex world… a world where, as a leader, you have to find a way to interpret the complexity, uncertainty, and ambiguity, and turn that into clarity for your people. The ability to understand and absorb complexity, to strip it down to its most essential form, and then communicate that to others is one of the most valuable skills you can possess… and it’s a skill that can be developed over time. There’s a big difference between making the complex simple and oversimplifying things that you don’t sufficiently understand… and to lead effectively, you need to know the difference! In this episode, I explain how simplicity enables you to focus on the most important things, and show how to use it to offset the dilution effect of communicating through multiple organization layers. EEpisode #221 // Times are tough. Inflation is on the rise, input costs are escalating, and organizations are tightening their belts. And it won’t be long before companies start to squeeze their suppliers in an attempt to find further cost reductions.Unfortunately, your suppliers are facing exactly the same pressures as you. So how do you make sure that you’re getting the best deal possible from your suppliers, without putting them at risk too?In this episode, I look at what makes a good contract (and it’s not always the cheapest). I show you some ways to extract value, other than just the blunt instrument of price reductions. And I let you in on a critical concept: the illusion of risk transfer. S1 Ep 219Intelligence Is Overrated: So, what matters more than that?
EEpisode #219 // When it comes to business, the relationship between intellect and leadership can be fraught. A strong leader with high intellect can be incredibly effective, and make a huge difference to the companies they work for, and to every person they lead. But highly intelligent people who rely on their intellect, to the exclusion of the leadership skills that would mobilize their people, generally struggle in the big jobs, and it often ends in tears. There’s a massive difference between being a great leader, and being a smart executive… and, unfortunately, I’ve met many more smart executives than great leaders. This episode explores the often counterbalanced forces of intelligence and leadership in some detail, and provides guidance on how to leverage your intellect to enhance your leadership performance.————————FREE 5 DAY LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE: Want to boost your leadership capability? S1 Ep 218Is Working From Home Working? Getting back to the office
EEpisode #218 // The dust is well and truly starting to settle on the Covid pandemic, and life is back to relative normality. But one of the lingering hangovers that hasn’t yet lifted is the issue of hybrid work. Many companies are increasingly keen to see their employees return to the office… but many of their people increasingly don’t want to do so.How is the work landscape developing, and what does it mean for leaders who have to manage their people’s return to the office and, in many cases, set the rules for future expectations and behavior? While we immerse ourselves in arguments about the productivity benefits of working from home, many people are becoming jaded with the new work paradigm, as their sense of purpose, team culture, and identity continue to decline. In this episode, I look at the latest research, surveys, and expert opinions on the return to office minefield. S1 Ep 217Trusting Your Instincts: Data isn’t everything
EEpisode #217 // In last week’s episode, we looked at high-impact decisions. They’re the ones that have potentially significant consequences, and strike fear into the hearts of most leaders when they have to make them. But the vast majority of our decisions just aren’t like that. These days, where we have cheap, instantaneous access to virtually limitless amounts of data, you’d think our decisions would be noticeably better… but they’re not. There’s no substitute for judgment, and there are times when your instincts have to guide your decisions, even to the point where they override the available data.Today’s episode explores the fallacy of over-reliance on data in the decision-making process, and puts a case forward for greater reliance on your judgment, experience, and intuition. I also give you three focus areas to help you improve your decision-making instinct, regardless of where you are now.————————FREE 5 DAY LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE: Want to boost your leadership capability? S1 Ep 215Results Or People...which is more important?
EEpisode #215 // Adam Grant produces a huge volume of thoughtful, intelligent, insightful content on leadership and organizational behavior. And although his podcast, Work Life, isn’t on my high rotation list, I try to catch the odd episode now and then. When I do, I often find myself thinking two things: The first is: “Wow, that is so good, but it would be so easy to misinterpret!”The second is: “Wow, I agreed with you 100%, right up until the point that you said ‘x’!”The crunch for me seems to come with the inevitable leadership trade-off: between doing the things that will make your people happy, and the (often difficult) counterbalance of getting outcomes for your organization. In this episode, I explore the tension between people and results. How should you lead, if you want to create both? It’s even harder to make sure that the value from that training isn’t lost in the weeks, months, and years after you or your people undertake it. S1 Ep 211Successful Delegation: Why is it so important?
EEpisode #211 // Most leaders understand the concept of delegation pretty well, but they struggle to execute. There are any number of ways that delegation can go wrong… and even if it doesn’t actually go spectacularly wrong, unless you learn to optimize your delegation approach, you’ll never get the most out of your people. You’ll always struggle with the massive workload that poor delegation foists upon you, and it will become a bad habit that becomes even more destructive the higher up you go. The good news is, it doesn’t have to be. EEpisode #207 // Transparency in leadership is a huge topic! Virtually every leadership pundit on the planet will tell you what an important quality transparency is for a leader to possess.
