Our WSJM Sports Player of the Week is Grace Constable of Berrien Springs Track and Field. Grace is a junior at Berrien Springs high school where she carries a 3.57 GPA During last week’s Rotary Track Meet at St. Joseph. Grace won three of the four races she was involved in. Winning the 100 (12.76 seconds) and 200 Meter Dash (26.74). Grace and her teammates won the 400 meter relay with a time of 49.78, a new school record, and the 800 meter relay team finished with a time of 1:49.08, while it was good for 2nd place, it still was a new school record. Grace is also a member of the Shamrocks Basketball team. The WSJM Sports Player of the Week for 4/30-5/6 was Evyn Pruett of Buchanan High School soccer. Evyn is a sophomore at Buchanan and has a 4.025 GPA. During the week, Buchanan went 2-1. In the Bucks 4-1 win over Constantine, Evyn tallied all four of the goals, and after a loss to Berrien Springs, Buchanan responded with a 6-1 win over Bangor. In the game Evyn recorded the double hat trick of six goals. MLB – Major League Baseball Yesterday Detroit Tigers 6, Cleveland Guardians 2 Kansas City Royals 12, Chicago White Sox 5 St. Louis Cardinals 3, Chicago Cubs 1 Tigers 6, Guardians 2 – Ibañez homers, scores 3 runs as Tigers topple Guardians 6-2 Joey Wentz shrugged off giving up a couple quick hits for his first win and Andy Ibañez homered and scored three runs, leading the Detroit Tigers to a 6-2 win over the struggling Cleveland Guardians. Wentz allowed a double and single to start the game before settling in. The left-hander retired 13 of 14 before giving up a pair of walks in the sixth. Ibañez connected in the fifth inning and Riley Greene drove in two runs as the Tigers won for the sixth time in seven games. José Ramírez homered for Cleveland, which has scored three runs or less in 22 of 35 games. Royals 12, White Sox 5 – Melendez has 4 RBIs, Royals score 8 in 6th, beat ChiSox 12-5 MJ Melendez homered and drove in four runs, Nick Pratto had a three-run double during an eight-run sixth inning, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago White Sox 12-5. Melendez hit a two-run shot in the fourth against Dylan Cease and then had a two-run single in the sixth as the Royals turned a 4-4 game into a rout.
