Evan Wilkes of St. Joseph high school wrestling is out WSJM Sports player of the week. Evan is a senior at St. Joe and has a 3.5 grade point average. At the Division 2 team districts. Evan went 2-0 on the day at 132, winning his semifinal match against Edwardsburg, by pin in :21 seconds, and in the final match against Lakeshore, with the Bears needing a pin in the last match of the day to win the final, pinned former state champion Brady Baker of Lakeshore to give the Bears a 31-30 win in the team final. Jaelynn Little of Bangor high school girls basketball is our latest WSJM Sports Player of the Week. Jaelynn is a senior and a team captain for the Lady Vikings team. Bangor went 2-0 during the week, in the Vikings 42-31 win over Hartord, Jaelynn scored 8 points, but added 8 steals,, 5 rebounds and 3 assists, the win ended Bangor’s 15 game losing streak to Hartford. Three days later, Jaelynn scored 16 points and had 9 steals in a 39-33 win against Decatur as Bangor is off to their best start since the 2012-13 season. Jaelynn, is also a member of the Vikings Cross Country, Track and field teams., and also plays softball in the spring.
