ESarah Roberts is a comedian and writer, who is quickly becoming one of comedy’s most exciting new voices. Among her award nods are: Komedia New Comedy Award finalist 2023, Leicester Square New Act runner-up 2022, a 99 Club bursary winner and BBC New Comedy Award regional finalist 2024 as well as Soho Theatre Labs Plus alumni 2022. A graduate of the National Film & Television School’s Writing & Producing Comedy course, Sarah’s graduation project, OnlyFran was featured by Director’s Notes as one of 10 essential shorts from NFTS 2022 graduates and was shortlisted for the Funny Women Shorts Award 2022. Her debut stand-up comedy hour, Silkworm, was listed as a stand-out show at Edinburgh Fringe 2024 by Rolling Stone, The Guardian, PinkNews, and The iPaper, and is now going on tour in Spring 2025, including a run at Soho Theatre. EDuncan Preston is best known for his appearances in Victoria Wood’s television productions, including his roles of Clifford in the soap opera parody sketches Acorn Antiques and Stan in the sitcom Dinnerladies. He reprised his role of Clifford in Acorn Antiques The Musical in 2005. Duncan has made many guest appearances in various TV series, including Secret Army, The Professionals, All Creatures Great and Small, Robin of Sherwood, Bergerac, The New Statesman, Press Gang, Chalk, Boon, Casualty, Heartbeat, Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, Holby City, Peak Practice, Midsomer Murders, Dalziel and Pascoe and My Family. He was also a regular cast member in the sitcom Surgical Spirit and appeared as Dennis Stokes in Coronation Street in 2004. Duncan played Doug Potts in Emmerdale for a number of years and played Kevin's dad in Harry Enfield and Chums. Ep. 453 - Mike Batt
EMike Batt is probably best known as the singer/songwriter/producer of The Wombles music, having written the theme tune plus eight hit singles and four gold albums. Mike moved on to work with various artists as a songwriter and producer, most successfully with Steeleye Span and their most successful single and album All Around My Hat in 1975. He wrote the song "Bright Eyes" for the film Watership Down, sung by Art Garfunkel, which reached number 1 in the UK Singles Chart and five other countries. Mike wrote and produced three more UK Top Ten hits, "Please Don't Fall in Love" (for Cliff Richard), "A Winter's Tale" (for David Essex, with lyrics co-written by Tim Rice) and "I Feel Like Buddy Holly" (for Alvin Stardust). Mike composed and produced the four million-selling album, The Violin Player, which launched classical violinist Vanessa-Mae, and he discovered Katie Melua in 2002. Her album Call Off The Search (containing six of Mike’s songs including "The Closest Thing to Crazy") was released in November 2003. It spent six weeks at number one in the UK Albums Chart, sold over 1.8 million copies, in the UK and three million copies in total, making Melua the biggest selling UK female artist of 2004. Ep. 452 - Richard Vranch
ERichard Vranch is maybe best known for improvising the music in the Channel 4 series Whose Line Is It Anyway?, famously introduced as “Richard Vranch at the piano”. He’s also a member of The Comedy Store Players and improvises comedy live on stage every Sunday at The Comedy Store in London, which he has done regularly for the past 39 years. He’s also part of the Improv All-Stars and Paul Merton and Suki Webster’s Improv Show. The Comedy Store Players have played the Olivier stage at the National Theatre and performed annually at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre. They toured India in 2004 and in 2010 they achieved the Guinness World Record for the longest running comedy show with the same cast. They’ve also appeared at the Globe Theatre annually since the millennium and will be performing there again on the 17th of December 2024. He formed a comedy double-act with Tony Slattery in 1981. The duo hosted the Channel 4 quiz The Music Game and over 100 episodes of Cue The Music on ITV. EWill Eaves is a British writer, poet and professor at the University of Warwick. He began writing for the Times Literary Supplement in 1992 and joined the paper as its Arts Editor in 1995. He left in 2011 to become an Associate Professor in the Writing Programme at the University of Warwick. In 2020, he judged the Goldsmiths Prize and was a Visiting Research Fellow at Merton College, Oxford. In 2016, he was a Sassoon Visiting Fellow at the Bodleian Library. He has written five novels, two books of poetry, and one volume of literary essays. For for book Murmur, Eaves was shortlisted for the Goldsmiths Prize and won the Wellcome Book Prize. He has given talks, seminars and readings around the world and has appeared several times on BBC Radio 3’s The Verb, with Ian Macmillan, and on BBC Radio 4’s Start the Week and Open Book. EPeter York is an author and broadcaster who came to fame writing the Sloane Ranger Handbook with Ann Barr. He was also the Style Editor of Harpers & Queen for 10 years and became a media commentator on English social trends and traits, regularly appearing on television. Peter wrote Peter York's Eighties (1996), this time co-authored with Charles Jennings, which was both a book and a BBC television series. This was followed by Dictators' Homes (2005), which explored the interior design favoured by dictators as a reflection of their despotic characters. Ep. 424 - Major-General Chip Chapman
EMajor-General Chapman joined the British Army in September 1980. He joined 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (2 PARA) and fought in the Falklands campaign, including the Battle of Goose Green. He stayed with 2 PARA until May 1985 which included his first Northern Ireland tour. In 1994 he returned to 2 PARA as a company commander for an 18 month operational tour in Belfast, prior to becoming 2IC 1 PARA and was promoted to Lt Col in March 1996. In July 1998 he became SO1 Operations in NI, and went on to command 2 PARA from August 1999-December 2001. His tour as CO included a NI reinforcement tour and the weapons collection mission (OP BESSEMER) in Macedonia. He was promoted to Colonel in December 2001 and appointed Colonel Military Operations 2 in the MoD (dealing with Counter Terrorism). As a Brigadier, he commanded 19 Mech Bde from 2003-2005, prior to becoming the last COS in NI (his fifth NI tour). He was Head of Counter Terrorism and UK Operations in the MoD from 2007-2010. In 2010, he became the Senior British Military Advisor to US Central Command. EArchie Henderson is an award-winning writer, actor, musician, and creator of viral comedy character Jazz Emu, whose videos and songs have garnered over 50 million streams. He was named as the 26th out of 50 funniest comedians of the 21st Century by The Telegraph. His musical character comedy show at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2022 (Jazz Emu: You Shouldn’t Have), was included on The Telegraph’s “Top Shows To See At The Edinburgh Fringe”, and the British Comedy Guide’s “Best Reviewed Shows At The Edinburgh Fringe”. EElvis McGonagall is a stand-up poet, comedian and broadcaster. Two series of his sitcom “Elvis McGonagall Takes A Look On The Bright Side” have been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 where he appears regularly as well as popping up occasionally on the television. Elvis is the 2006 World Poetry Slam Champion, the compere of The Blue Suede Sporran Club and performs at literary and music festivals, comedy and cabaret clubs, pubs and dodgy dives up and down the country and abroad, including appearances at: Edinburgh Fringe and Glastonbury Festival where he was poet-in-residence in 2007. Elvis also gigs with his band The Resurrectors “an unholy marriage of radical stand-up poetry and Caledonian punkabilly rock ‘n roll”. In 2015 Elvis made the “Hot 100” - The List magazine’s annual run-down of Scotland’s “hottest cultural contributors”. A collection of his poems from 2003 to 2017 entitled “Viva Loch Lomond!” was published in 2017 and a second volume entitled “Complete & Utter Cult!” was published in December 2020.
