If you're ready to listen to Pete quote this entire movie in a questionable southern accent you've come to the right place. S1 Ep 3434. Bonus Episode - Pilot - Cruel Intentions
bonusEIt's our first bonus episode! We dug up our experiment pilot to see if this project would even work. Spoiler Alert - it worked - so we dusted off this gem for your listening pleasure. We watched Cruel Intentions from 1999 and we're still obsessed with Ryan Phillippe's buns. Sarah Michelle Gellar is serving up some fierce be-otch realness and we discuss the legend of production hiding Reese's pieces (was she really knocked up during production?). We'll be back with fresh episodes for Season 2 really soon! Thanks for hanging in there and as always, don't forget to subscribe, rate and review us on iTunes! EWe made it through a whole season of gay as hell movies and our finale is a doozy! We're joined by the very funny Braden Davis so watch the 1980 classic Blue Lagoon. You guys, this movie is bananas! If you're not familiar with this movie - I'll sum it up in 2 words: Full. Frontal. Two beautiful teens are marooned on a tropical island and much male nudity ensues. We tell tales of watching this movie as kids surrounded by our family and definitely feeling some type of way. Brooke Shields is lovely as always but Christopher Atkins - no words. S1 Ep 3232. Smokey Mountain Christmas with special guest Mitchell Ralston
EOur Christmas series continues as we welcome good friend Mitch Ralston to watch the Dolly Parton classic A Smokey Mountain Christmas. Dolly plays a Country star escaping to the Smokies to spend Christmas with nothing but her guitar and some squirrel stew but a ragtag group of squatting orphans, the horny local sheriff and a mountain witch have other plans. Along the way Dolly runs afoul of Lee Majors doing his best Grizzly Adams impression and there's even a last-minute cameo from the late great John Ritter. Sadly, Dolly's final showdown with Witchy Woman Jezebel doesn't include lightning bolts from Dolly's acrylics, but it's satisfying nonetheless. Sorority girls get hassled with obscene phone calls and start dropping like flies. Jess (Olivia Hussey) has problems of her own - her high strung boyfriend Peter (Keir Dullea) at the top of the list. Horny Barb (Margot Kidder) and mousy Phyl (Andrea Martin) round out the sorority sisters under the care of boozy house mother Mrs. Mac (Marian Waldman). EIt's a sequel to a movie based on a 70's TV show; We sat down with #friendofthepod Lola Chee and watched Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle! If you watched these movies and tried to model your style after Drew Barrymore - you're gay now. Demi Moore was a 40 year old mother of three when she made this and looks better than me on my best day in my 20s. EDo you love superhero movies but need more glamour? We've got the solution - we watched Supergirl (1984) with Brian Boskind and we're already shopping for abandoned amusement parks. Supergirl (Helen Slater) gets whisked away to Earth and is bedeviled by wicked witch Selena (Faye Dunaway) her henchwoman Bianca (Brenda Vaccaro) and runner up in the Severus Snape lookalike contest Nigel (Peter Cook). Selena serves a love potion to a hunky gardener in can of Schlitz Malt Liquor and Faye makes that nonsense look glamorous! S1 Ep 2828. Sister Act with special guest Joshua Clement
ESister Mary Clarence - like Clarence Williams III from the Mod Squad? Fellow film maniac Joshua Clement dropped in to watch Sister Act (1992) and we're still practicing the choreo (give 'em a little shoulder action). We know Dolores Van Cartier is supposed to be tacky but what we wouldn't give for a real purple mink - even if it belonged to someone else's wife! Whoopi conducted these little old white ladies dressed as nuns into a real gospel choir and gay (and straight) children of the world rejoiced. We're willing to look past the betrayel of Sister Mary Robert (Wendy Makkena) LIPSYNCING (gay gasp!) because this movie is legit and all of our VHS copies are worn out! Maggie Smith, Kathy Najimi, Jenifer Lewis and the ICON Mary Wickes round out the powerhouse cast. Thanks for listening and don't forget to subscribe, rate and review us on iTunes! S1 Ep 2727. Chasing Amy with special guest Amber Shaw
ENothing says LGBT Ally like a straight-cis-white-male writing a dialogue for a lesbian. We're joined by #friendofthepod Amber Shaw to watch Chasing Amy (1997) and we have some thoughts. Does this quaint tale of sexual politics in the mid 90's hold up to todays "woke" standards? It does not. Is naming your two male leads after Catcher In The Rye characters pretentious? Possibly. Some of the jokes hold up, some of them don't - it was simpler times! It's episode 27 of Movies That Made Us Gay! Thanks for listening and don't forget to subscribe, rate and review us on iTunes! Bored social worker Nina (Jennifer Aniston) falls for her equally boring GBF George (Rudd). Nina gets knocked up by her boring boyfriend but wants to raise the baby with George cause she's still thirsty for that forbidden D. Steve Zahn is playing against type (straight), Allison Janney is also there chewing up the scenery and Audra McDonald is slumming it as a wedding singer. It's episode 26 of Movies That Made Us Gay! S1 Ep 2323. Bram Stoker's Dracula with special guest Sammy Smart
ELove isn't the only thing that never dies, bad English accents are forever. We sat down with Sammy Smart (Too Scary; Didn't Watch) to watch Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992). A horror movie filled to the brim with corseted beauties, hunky heroes and titillating semi-nudity - It's almost as if this movie were made for preteen gay boys to watch under the cover of night. We choose our favorite Hollywood hunk (Keanu 4Lyfe), point out which sex scenes still make us uncomfortable to this day and spend way too much time talking about the costumes. What exactly is the circumference of Wino's waistline in that corset and bustle? Find out in Episode 23 of Movies That Made Us Gay! S1 Ep 2222. Hocus Pocus with special guest Allison Levitan
EIt's been 300 years, right down to the day… and we're finally getting around to watching Hocus Pocus (1993). We sat down with #friendofthepod Allison Levitan to talk about this high-camp fantasy starring our Queen Bette Midler. This movie has united a generation of Millenials through campy songs, Hot Topic fashion and pre-Drag Race era makeup contouring. Gays and straight (girls) alike unite through joint love of this Halloween mainstay, hatred of children and devotion to the master himself - Satan… I mean Garry Marshall. Happy Halloween!! EHello boys and ghouls. It's October and that means spooky movies! We're joined by Ashley & Lauren from Keep it Weird (@keepitweirdcast) for a crossover special extravaganza!! We watched The Witches (1990) and Anjelica Huston is our new idol. Roald Dahl's tale of Real witches and the quest to exterminate the children of England by transforming them into mice has got us thinking - maybe these ladies are on to something. The Grand High Witch (Huston) is seething with glamour, high camp and just enough sex appeal to make us stalk around the apartment screaming VITCHES VORK ONLY VIS MAGICK! Check back every friday - all episodes in the month of October will feature a new spooky, ooky, kooky movie for your listening pleasure. S1 Ep 2020. Never Been Kissed with special guests Jessica Granger and Amy Fox
EWe took our show on the road and met up with hometown friends Jessica Granger and Amy Fox to review the 1999 Drew Barrymore classic Never Been Kissed. From the wilds of Montana we talk about the first ever Flower Films production and its impact on the gayification of our two guests. Like Clueless before it, this film is peppered with future has-beens and a couple of also-rans but it bears the distinction of having future Oscar winner and multi-nominee Octavia Spencer in the role of "Sun-Times Worker." Listen with us as we answer the deep questions like "What is Molly Shannon's job" and "Is Guy (Jeremy Jordan) actually hot?" on Episode 20 of Movies That Made Us Gay! S1 Ep 1919. Yentl with special guest Matt Emert
EIt's our first foray into Barbra territory and Matt Emert (@mattybrooks116) was our guide as we navigated our way through Yentl (1983). Not only our introduction to Babs on film but more importantly - Mandy Patinkin's heinie. Barbra herself starred, directed and produced this "film with music" about a Jewish girl who disguises herself as a boy to enter religious training. Along the way Yentl meets and falls for the super-fine Avigdor (Patinkin), MARRIES the naive Haddas (Amy Irving) and talk-sings (but somehow still belts) her way through every song on the soundtrack. Through it all Yentl somehow manages to keep her secret while I would have risked it all after that infamous skinny dipping adventure. It's episode 19 of Movies That Made Us Gay! ESummer may be winding down but that didn't stop us from watching Summer School with our friend Jacob Carillo (@ralphmustachio). Fresh off the 1986 Sexiest Man Alive cover, Mark Harmon is here to prove why 33 years later he is still flooding the basements of CBS viewers across the nation. Mr. Shoop is the man-child Remedial English teacher to a rag-tag group of juvenile delinquents that includes a duo of horny special effects makeup wizards, a horny yet introspective surfer girl and a horny underage male stripper. And we can't forget the buttoned up, yet secretly horny for Mr. Shoop, history teacher Ms. Bishop played by the foxy Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty) Alley. Get ready for beach volleyball, male strip clubs and Mark Harmon rollerskating shirtless on the beach - it's episode 18 of Movies That Made Us Gay. EAre we on Cops again? Not this time - but we are joined by our most smartest friend of the pod Lauren Ogle (Keep It Weird) to watch the 1999 classic Drop Dead Gorgeous! Get ready for all three of us to attempt to pull off a Minnesota accent and pretty much spend the entire episode quoting this movie. We spend a lot of time gushing over how this movie is perfectly cast - we stan Kiki Dunst - and stand by our claim that this "mockumentary" is just as good as anything from Christopher Guest and company (fight us). We are officially Pageant Kweens and there ain't nothing wrong with that. Dust off your plaid culottes, and go pick me up a pack of smokes - it's Episode 17 of Movies That Made Us Gay! Buy American. Highfalutin Rose and Sadie Shelton are scheming to strip mine Jupiter Hollow while hay-seeds Rose and Sadie Ratliff are on a crusade to save their town. Hijinks ensue including mistaken identity, sexual espionage and a yodeling Bette Midler. This movie has everything a little gay boy wants in life - impeccably dressed powerful women, gaudy dressed funny women, obvious gay characters who's sexuality totally went over our heads, luxury hotels, the (false) idea of making hundreds of dollars for getting good grades and MTMUG all-star Mary Gross. S1 Ep 1515. Adventures In Babysitting with special guest Hiko Mitsuzuka
EWe invited the very funny Hiko Mitsuzuka to sit in with us as we continue our streak of babysitter themed movies and watched the 1987 sleepover mainstay Adventures in Babysitting! We stan Elisabeth Shue super hard and it all started with her epic performance in this movie. We analyze Penelope Anne Miller's influence on todays 80's retro fashion (is Brenda the proto-Barb?). We pick up on some latent homo leanings from Daryl (Anthony Rapp) and we welcome with open arms Keith Coogan into the pantheon of Movies That Made Us Gay All Stars! Buckle up and most definitely, do NOT Eff with the Babysitter! It's Episode 15 of Movies That Made Us Gay! Thanks for listening and don't forget to subscribe, rate and review us on iTunes! EWe're right on top of that Rose! Scott and Pete sat down with the very funny #friendofthepod Mark Rosenberg (This Made Me Think of You - available on Amazon) and watched Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead! This movie has everything a little gay boy could ask for - tricking adults into thinking you're older, drag queens boosting a car and teenage Josh Charles (swoon). Sue Ellen (Christina Applegate) may be in over her head at General Apparel West but the general apparel in her closet is everything! Throw in some lip sync worthy performances by Joanna Cassidy as "Swell's" all too accommodating boss Rose and Jayne Brook's perfectly evil receptionist Carolyn (PER-SO-NNELL) and this movie has the makings of every baby-gay's top ten list. S1 Ep 1313. Batman Forever with special guest Dylan Hay-Chapman
EPete and Scott are joined by friend of the pod and the big bro they never had Dylan Hay-Chapman. They watched Batman Forever (1995) and even though this movie is crazy queer the boys needed help from the straights to sort it all out. They break down NIcole Kidman's questionable (at times) sultry American accent, dissect the evolution of Chris O'Donnell's Robin costume and gag over the draggy performances by Sugar & Spice (Drew Barrymore & Debi Mazar). Also Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones are in this movie somewhere. It's episode 13 and these are the Movies That Made Us Gay! EHello Dollies... this week Scott and Pete watched the 1999 comedy Dick and they can't get enough! They're transported back to the 70's through spot on costumes, period perfect set design and impeccable styling. The only tell being late 90's era pencil thin eyebrows. Another in a long list of female buddy comedies that every gay teenage boy can latch on to amid the backdrop of political intrigue and roller disco. We can say without hyperbole that Michelle Williams and Kiki Dunst have never matched these performances. Say it with us... I love Dick!! S1 Ep 1111. Masters Of The Universe with special guest Chris Cirigliano
EVery Special friend of the podcast Chris Cirigliano (Very Special Television) joined the boys this week to watch Masters Of The Universe (1987). Chris provides the first straight-dude point of view to show as we review this tale of a hyper-masculine beefcake from another world who drops out of the sky into 1980s Earth. This movie has everything; an oiled up Swede, a bio queen, and that girl from the Springsteen video (I wonder if she ever went on to do anything with her career). Did our obsession with this musclebound hero actually turn us gay? Did Evil-Lyn's fierce lewks foster a burgeoning love for drag queens? Find out the answer to all these questions and more in Episode 11 of Movies That Made Us Gay! Thanks for listening and don't forget to subscribe, rate and review us on iTunes! EPete and Scott are joined by longtime friend and resident mom Moranne Klassen to talk about Baby Boom (1987) - the pearl of mid 80's baby-movie mania. We clock the first instances of chunky turtlenecks, rustic kitchens and WASPy diatribes that come to be touchstones in a long line of Diane Keaton/Nancy Myers collaborations. We're also joined by a real live baby who adds a little bit of credibility to our musings on the working moms of the 1980s.
