S2 Ep 8686. Pretty in Pink with special guest Amber Shaw

E

It's the best high school movie of the 80's with the worst prom dress committed to film. We watched Pretty in Pink (1986) with our friend Amber Shaw and we wan't a candy machine in the boy's restroom! John Hughes' masterpiece of the class struggle in American high schools is as timely today as it was in the consumerist 80's. Molly Ringwald's "grandma-chic" Andy is relatable without being a MarySue and Duckie (Jon Cryer) is the archetype coded gay best friend. Is Blane (Andrew McCarthy) too much of a wimp for Andy? Maybe. Do we still strive to be as cool as Iona (Annie Potts)? Definitely. Was Some Kind of Wonderful (1987) redundant? We talk about these questions and so much more in Episode 86 of Movies That Made Us Gay! S2 Ep 8585. What Lies Beneath with special guest Lauren Ogle

E

We wish to Communi-CATE with the spirit. We watched What Lies Beneath (2000) and something is happening in our house! It's not too often you get two powerhouse leads sharing the screen and Robert Zemeckis made it happen with two of our most charismatic movie stars. It helps they're both easy on the eyes. Michelle Pfeiffer is everything as housewife slowly unravelling before our very eyes and Harrison Ford is the stuff daddy's are made of. Are there actually ghosts in this house? Did he have something to do with that missing girl? Are the sex crazed neighbors just swingers trying to send a message? The answer to these questions and more lie within episode 85 of Movies That Made Us Gay! Thanks for listening and don't forget to subscribe, rate and review us on iTunes! S2 Ep 8484. The Matrix with special guest Drew Stanley

E

It's the movie that changed the landscape for every sci-fi movie to come after... and launched a thousand parodies. We watched The Matrix (1999) with our friend Drew Stanley and we would definitely take the red pill. Perhaps it went over our heads at the time, but this Cyber Punk, Kung Fu, Industrial-Goth fairy tale is so jam packed with queer and trans theory it will make your teeny tiny little sunglasses spin. Considering how dated a movie about "hackers" could be, The Matrix has stood the test of time. Break out your vinyl pants and platform work boots, we're plugging in. S2 Ep 8383. The Cell with special guest Ashley Casseday

E

It's like Silence of the Lambs for people who really love The Matrix. We watched The Cell (2000) with special guest Ashley Casseday (Keep It Weird Podcast) and we're still kinda creeped out. Jennifer Lopez plays the most glamorous social worker on earth who uses cutting edge technology and fashion to go into the minds of her subjects. If the dreamscapes look familiar its because director Tarsem Singh cut his teeth directing spooky ooky kooky videos for the likes of R.E.M. and most recently "911" for Lady Gaga. If you love FBI procedurals, dramatic Vince Vaughn and JLo wearing couture then this movie is for you. Thanks for listening and don't forget to subscribe, rate and review us on iTunes! S2 Ep 8282. Marie Antoinette

E

It's not too much is it? We watched Marie Antoinette (2006) directed by Sofia Coppola and your shoes are SO Du Barry! This modern take on the life of the last queen of France divided audiences at the time with its new wave soundtrack and American girl-next-door star but we are here to tell you - like Kirsten Dunst herself, this movie has aged beautifully. We are Sofia Coppola Stans and we spend much of the episode praising her dreamy directing, Kiki's impressive range (aging from 14 to 37!) and gagging over the locations, costumes, shoes... and the WIGS! What would you have done if you became queen of France at 19? Throw a damn party that's what! Was she irresponsible? Maybe. Are we living for her sense of style? Definitely. S2 Ep 8181. Ruthless People with special guest Ben Cheaves

E

My husband worships the ground I walk on! We watched Ruthless People (1986) with our friend Ben Cheaves (TCM Underground presents: Slumberground) and we've been kidnapped by Kmart! In case you were wondering this podcast is slowly turning into a Better Midler catalog review and we're loving every minute of it. Directed by Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker (Airplane, Top Secret) Midler plays spoiled, loud and tacky like no other. The cast is lousy with MTMUG All Stars: Danny DeVito (Batman Returns), Helen Slater (Supergirl), Anita Morris (A Smokey Mountain Christmas). Not to mention cute as hell Judge Reinhold and Bill Pullman (trust us). We had NO business watching this movie as kids, but Bette taught us how to take care of ourselves in a crisis situation. S2 Ep 8080. The Poseidon Adventure with special guest Jackie Beat

E

There's got to be a morning after! We watched The Poseidon Adventure (1972) with the Legendary Miss Jackie Beat and in the water we're very skinny ladies. The 70's were all about Disaster Movies and this one takes the cake. Filled with 70's fashions, over the top acting from some Hollywood legends and a hit song, this movie is a template producers follow to this day. The Morning After walked so My Heart Will Go On could FLY! Where else but a 70's melodrama could a reverend, a former sex worker and a Jewish grandmother/swim champion team up to save the day... and our hearts? S2 Ep 7979. Batman Returns with special guest Dylan Hay-Chapman

E

Honey, I'm home... oh that's right, I'm not married. We watched Batman Returns (1992) with our resident bat-guest Dylan Hay-Chapman and suddenly we feel so much yummier. Before Robin was around to spark a sexual awakening, there was Selena Kyle AKA Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer) to awaken our inner villainess. Clearly the star of this movie - the vacuum sealed (literally) costume, the beat mug and the one-liners made every gay boy (and girl) across the land want to be Catwoman when they grew up. The snappy script by Daniel Waters (Heathers) is pure camp; Danny DeVito's gross Penguin is all puns and Michael Keaton's Batman/Bruce Wayne is the ditzy girlfriend. And in case you were wondering - this is 100% a Christmas Movie. S2 Ep 7878. Pee-wee's Playhouse Christmas Special with special guest Jared Anderson

E

It's Christmas in the Playhouse and we're gonna have a lot of fun! We watched Christmas at Pee-wee's Playhouse (1988) with our friend Jared Anderson and we've gotta call you back - we've got Dinah Shore on the other line! This special episode of the Playhouse is filled with more queer and camp icons than John Waters' address book. Cher, Charo, Grace Jones, k.d. lang, Little Richard and more are all here in their 80's glam prime and we're still blinded by the sequins. The jokes are still fresh, the Spencer's Gifts aesthetic is on and popping and the soundtrack SLAPS. Come for 80's nostalgia, stay for Pee-wee pioneering Holiday Zoom calls with out of town loved ones. S2 Ep 7777. Heathers with special guest Goldyn Gunville

E

Whats your damage Heather?!! We watched Heathers (1989) with our friend Goldyn Gunville and our teen-angst BS has a body count! We learned everything we needed to know about high school life from this movie. Didn't everyone wear structured blazers to class, write in their diary in oversized flowery scrawl while wearing a monocle and play croquet over a plate of pâté? The heightened reality of this movie is off the charts and the made-up teen speak and killer wardrobe are legendary ("it'll be very"). Winona Ryder and Christian Slater are *chefs kiss* as our new wave anti-heroes. The subject matter is dark - but it's a cautionary tale for the '80s. S2 Ep 7676. Titanic with special guest Jennifer Mrazek

E

We have achieved Leo Mania. Officially! We watched Titanic (1997) with our friend Jennifer Mrazek and we promise to never let go! Do you remember where you were when you first saw Titanic? We do - all 15 times between us. We reminisce about this James Cameron directed classic that united the world. Sold out lines around the block, a theme song (and video) that still holds up - even an Oprah special! Titanic was THE movie of 1997 and Leo may have hooked these queers into the theater but the costumes, the wigs and our Queen Kate Winslet made us forever Stans. S2 Ep 7575. Addams Family Values with special guest Andy Ur

E

Break out your "Schizos and Serial Killers" trading cards, we watched Addams Family Values (1993) with our friend Andy Ur and we're all Graceful, Delicate Ballerinas! As Thanksgiving movies go, this is… really the only one we could think of. This movie is full of more queer subtext than you can shake a stick at. Joan Cusack as murderous "Black Widow" Debbie Jellinsky is nothing short of iconic. Anjelica Huston is service face, face, body, face in Morticia drag and Christina Ricci very nearly steals the show as a pre-teen Wednesday revolting against her WASPy fellow campers. Keep an eye out for cameos by queer or queer-adjacent celebs like Christine Baranski, Nathan Lane, David Hyde Pierce, Cynthia Nixon and Charles Busch. Hey its Thanksgiving Day! S2 Ep 7474. Earth Girls Are Easy with special guest Moranne Klassen

E

Do you guys have margaritas on your planet? We watched Earth Girls Are Easy (1988) with our friend Moranne Klassen and you guys are so lucky you crashed in the valley. It's the baddest place on earth! Take a trip with us to SoCal's San Fernando Valley of the 1980's. It was a theme park filled with leggy nail technicians, night clubs inside observatories and dayglow aliens in retro 50's spaceships. The soundtrack featuring songs by Julie Brown is worth the price of admission. They lyrics to 'Cause I'm a Blonde belong in the Library of Congress. S2 Ep 7373. Muriel's Wedding with special guest Devin Lotfi

E

You're terrible Muriel. Or is it Mariel? We watched Muriel's Wedding (1994) with our friend Devin Lotfi (I Don't Want to Hear That Podcast) and our lives are just as good as an Abba song. Get ready to listen to some questionable Aussie accents as we recount this mid-90's gem that introduced the world to ICON Toni Collette. Muriel (Collette) yearns to leave her oppressive family, evil friends and and boring town of Porpoise Spit for the big city life in Sydney. She just happens to steal thousands to get there. Hey, if my mom handed me blank check to kick off my burgeoning MLM business I just might embezzle a grand or two to start a new life myself. Some of you might mis-remember this as a lighthearted comedy but we're here to tell you it gets dark - but only right before Muriel gets her happy ending. Indeed her life is just as good as Dancing Queen.

S2 Ep 7272. The Women with special guest Dennis Griffin

E

Looks like it's back to the perfume counter for me! We watched The Women (1939) with our friend Dennis Griffin and we're all getting our nails done - Jungle Red! This screwball comedy from the golden age of Hollywood has everything we love - quotable female characters, a fabulous wardrobe and a super gay fashion show that stops the movie in its tracks. The only thing its missing is MEN! Famously there are NO males in this movie - actors, extras, or photos. Even the animals were all female (allegedly). If you thought The Golden Girls was the archetype for Sex and The City think again. Watch The Women then get back to us. S2 Ep 7172. The Bride of Frankenstein with special guest Mitchell Ralston

E

To a new world of gods and monsters! We watched The Bride of Frankenstein (1935) with our good friend Mitchell Ralston and we forever Stan Elsa Lanchester as "The Monster's Mate." We take a trip through the "Universal Classic Monsters"catalogue and find out what makes this entry so queer. Mincing mad scientists, screeching hausfraus and ersatz domestic partnerships fill this gothic masterpiece, but it's Lanchester's brief performance that cements this movie in queer cinema history. The Bride did more for gays, goths and cholas with nothing more than 5 minutes of screen time, a shake and go wig and an eyebrow pencil than any of us could muster in a lifetime. They may belong dead but that face will live forever. S2 Ep 7070. Practical Magic with special guest Allison Levitan

E

Hang on to your husbands, girls! We watched Practical Magic (1998) with our friend Allison Levitan and the nudity is entirely optional, as you well remember! This movie has more wicked witchery than Stevie Nicks - and she's heavily featured on the soundtrack. Sandy (Bullock) and Nic (Kidman) are serving major lewks as the bewitching Owens sisters and Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing are giving us major Agnes Moorhead as Endora vibes as their wacky aunts. Tonal issues aside, this movie is a ton of fun and we forever Stan Sandy playing a no-nonsense empowered woman and Nic playing a flighty waif in an auburn wig. Remember, theres a little witch in all of us. S2 Ep 6969. A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master with special guest Jacob Randall

E

The Dream Master? Sounds like a game show host to me. We watched A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master with our pal Jacob Randall (Crime of Your Life) and we have matching luggage again. Smack in the middle of a mini-trilogy within a 7 movie franchise (we don't count Freddy vs. Jason or the remake) Dream Master breathes new life into Elm Street with "fresh meat." Legendary Lisa Wilcox plays Alice Johnson and helped little horror loving gay boys across the land recognize their queerness when we all figured out we wanted to BE Alice when we grow up. Starting the movie meek and insecure, Alice grows into a kick ass, back flipping, nunchuck spinning, laser beam wielding beyotch! Not to mention she gets to bang "Major League Hunk" Dan Jordan (Danny Hassel) in the sequel. Goals!! This movie has everything; body horror rivaling the best of Cronenberg, wall to wall cute boys and a killer soundtrack. S2 Ep 6868. Halloween with special guest Matt Emert

E

Isn't that Devon Graham? I think he's cute! We watched Halloween (1978) with our friend and MTMUG all star Matt Emert and we hate a guy with a car and no sense of humor. This is the mother of all slasher movies (we see you Black Christmas) and our guest Matt is an aficionado of all things Haddonfield. This is a horror movie for people who LOVE the genre - we defy you to count the Psycho references sprinkled in by legendary director John Carpenter (who also composed one of the creepiest movie scores in history). Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) has become the template for the "final girl" and her horny friends gave way to the basic "Scream" rules to survive a horror film (never have sex, drink or do drugs or say "I'll be right back"). Poor Laurie. Scared another one away. S2 Ep 6767. Fright Night with Kevin and Chris from Homos on Haunted Hill

E

We watched Fright Night (1985) with our friends Kevin Jones & Chris Moore but you may know them as the Homos on Haunted Hill. Apparently the filmmakers didn't include the glaring queerness on purpose but the cast alone betrays its homo tendencies. Roddy McDowall, Amanda Bearse and future adult film star Stephen Geoffreys turn up the camp in this tale of a sexy vampire moving to the suburbs. William Ragsdale is cute but harmless as our hero Charley who is so enthralled by the sexy Jerry Dandrige (Chris Sarandon) he's constantly fighting off his perfectly willing (and horny) girlfriend (Bearse). Geoffreys' over the top performance as Evil Ed may have been intended as comic relief but his Bobcat Goldthwait on Four Loko delivery comes across somehow as charming. S2 Ep 6666. Ghost World

E

If you like authentic blues you really gotta check out Blues Hammer. We watched Ghost World (2001) and no we don't want a biscotti with that. If you ever want a peek behind the veil of Scott and Pete's inner (and outer) monologue - look no further than this movie. We too can't relate to 99% of humanity and mostly want to poison rude customers. Since poisoning is out of the question, we simply troll them under our breath like our heroes Enid (Thora Birch) and Rebecca (Scarlett Johansson). While we're nowhere near as upfront as Enid or dry as Rebecca, we feel we've modeled a decent part of our wit off of these two fringe dwelling icons. Much like Enid, we too "just like Don Knotts." S2 Ep 6565. Cruising with special guest Mike Toscano

E

NYC's Meat Packing District has a long way to go until Samantha Jones moves in. We watched Cruising (1980) with returning guest Mike Toscano and we're still clutching our pearls! This infamous movie follows Al Pacino as a police officer who goes undercover in the gay leather & S&M scene in early 80's era New York City. What we get is a snapshot of a gay subculture from a long-gone time, when all we had to worry about was serial killers, getting busted for walking in front of the wrong bar and getting roughed up by giant muscle men in jock straps in the interrogation room. Director William Friedkin (The Exorcist, The Boys in the Band) is up to his old tricks - inserting "subliminal" frames of adult films into the murder scenes! Pacino learning about the hanky code should be required viewing for gays of every age - know your history people! S2 Ep 6464. Sunset Boulevard with special guest Dennis Griffin

E

"We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!" We watched Sunset Blvd (1950) with the very funny Dennis Griffin and we're ready for our close-up! This Uber-meta film about the film industry gave the world one of the most glamorous, tragic and straight up bananas performances of the 20th Century in Gloria Swanson's portrayal of Norma Desmond. William Holden is also giving us major beef-cake daddy vibes as Joe Gillis, the screenwriter turned gigolo who finds himself on the business end of Norma's amorous affections. If you're anything like us, after watching this movie you'll be perfecting your Norma Desmond impression while manufacturing a turban out of a tea towel and prancing around the house in your most glamorous caftan. E

The year was 1998 and GOOP was a mere glimmer in her eye. We watched Sliding Doors (1998) with returning favorite Joshua Clement and we're all booked for blonde highlights! This movie has everything: Gwyneth Paltrow accent work, a makeover with a sassy new 'do, and a charmingly befuddled Englishman. GP was in no less than 5 movies in '98 and this Sliding Doors holds up against some bangers. And yes, we do talk about Brad's matching haircut. It's episode 63 of Movies That Made Us Gay! S2 Ep 6262. Twister with special guests Jessica Granger and Amy Fox

E

It's like Jurassic Park but with Tornadoes. We watched Twister (1996) with the awesome Jessica Granger and Amy Fox (ep 20 Never Been Kissed) and we always knew there was something about that Helen Hunt. Gay boys and girls across the land can all agree, Hunt as storm chaser Dr. Jo Harding definitely turned us gay. From her utilitarian wardrobe, to her trusty pickup (an '82 Jeep HONCHO?!) we always knew Jo was playing on our team. Whether or not the filmmakers knew they were creating a queer benchmark, Twister has gained a life of its own with gay people of a certain age. There may not be a tee shirt on the hallowed walls of Hot Topic, but this 90's gem shaped young queer minds everywhere. S2 Ep 6161. Scream with special guest Tim Murdock

E

Do you like scary movies? We watched Scream (1996) with the always hilarious Tim Murdock (Happy Horror Time) and who says it has to be October to watch horror movies? The slasher that changed the genre forever, Scream embraced everything that was tired and cliche in horror and made it fresh for a new generation of horror fans... and gays everywhere rejoiced. Was quirky video store clerk Randy (Jamie Kennedy) a coded gay character? Were Billy (Skeet Ulrich) and Stu (Matthew Lillard) a little too "close" for comfort? Was Casey (Drew Barrymore) wearing a wig? The answers to all these and more, lie in Episode 61 of Movies That Made Us Gay! S2 Ep 6060. 54 with special guest Blake Knight

E

93 minutes of late 90's Ryan Phillippe wearing dolphin shorts and tube socks... where do we sign up?! We watched 54 (1998) with friend of the pod Blake Knight (A Gay in the Life) and you're not listening to this episode with that shirt on. We take a deep dive into this semi-true story about the legendary 70's disco Studio 54. Did club owner Steve Rubell (Mike Meyers) really have a "no-uggos" rule at the door? Absolutely. Were the real bartenders as hot as Ryan? Maybe. Were Greg (Breckin Meyer) and Anita (Salma Hayek) terribly mismatched? Definitely. We also examine the fabled Directors Cut featuring the steamy Ryan/Breckin kiss left on the cutting room floor. Dust off your Donna Summer records and break out the amyl nitrate, we're about to turn the beat around! It's Episode 60 of Movies That Made Us Gay!! S2 Ep 5959. Outrageous Fortune with special guest Greg Lightner

E

It's a buddy, caper, heist, road movie made for, you know... ladies. We watched Outrageous Fortune (1987) with our friend Greg Lightner and we agree - you boff Romeo over Hamlet any day. Bette Midler and Shelley Long play an Odd Couple at each other throats and apparently they kept it up behind the scenes as well. We talk about the drama behind who got top billing and who spilled tea on Oprah but lets face it - the real reason we watched this movie over and over again was to learn Bette's monologues. Calling actors "bulls*****rs who get paid" in a Brooklyn accent definitely made us gay. It's Episode 59 of Movies That Made Us Gay! This movie did for summer camps what Friday the 13th already did two years earlier. We watched Sleepaway Camp (1983) with the very funny Mike Toscano and we need an adult! What can we say? This movie is wild. The characters in this movie are so rotted you're actually rooting for the killer by the end. And oh, what an ending! Do yourself a favor and watch this movie. Oh... you wanted a twist? This one is gonna leave you gagged. It's episode 58 of Movies That Made Us Gay!! Thanks for listening and don't forget to subscribe, rate and review us on iTunes! S2 Ep 5757. The Lost Boys with special guest Billy Roach

E

My own brother a vampire… you wait until mom finds out! We watched The Lost Boys (1987) with one of our favorite straights Billy Roach. This movie is so 80's we can't stand it. From insane glam rock inspired fashion and hair to the absolutely slammin soundtrack - this movie is a time capsule of the hard rockin MTV 80's. It's also got so many cute boys in the cast we lost count. We get real deep into vampire lore and Pete and Billy nerd-out over a certain vamp themed table top role-playing game. Collectively we've seen this movie close to 100 times but we still have to keep telling ourselves… they're only noodles. S2 Ep 5656. Elvira, Mistress of the Dark with special guest Ben Cheaves

E

She's not just a great set of boobs... she's also an incredible pair of legs. And when all is said and done, she only asks to be remembered by two simple words... any two as long as they're simple. We watched Elvira, Mistress of the Dark with friend of the show Ben Cheaves and you can call us... tonight. This movie has become a touchstone for gays across the land. We talk Elvira's ability to read you to filth at a moments notice, her agency in the face of adversity and her slammin bod. This movie, much like Elvira herself might be raunchy, bawdy and crass on the outside, but wholesome family fun underneath. You can give us your feedback in the comments, but if we wanted your opinion we'd beat it out of ya. It's Episode 56 of Movies That Made Us Gay! S2 Ep 5555. Showgirls with special guest Dan Renzi

E

Somebody get me some brown rice, vegetables and a bottle of Evian! We watched Showgirls (1995) with special guest Dan Renzi (The Real World, The Challenge) and all we want is a burger, fries and a soda. People proclaim Showgirls to be the "best worst movie" but our friend Dan is here to tell you you're half wrong. We hash out why Showgirls is actually a solid piece of cinema in spite of and in some cases because of it's over the top acting, insane script and explicit nudity. Name another NC-17 movie with a wide release (or shall we say - big opening?). We talk the high points of Nomi (Elizabeth Berkley) and Cristal's (Gina Gershon) chemistry, the low points of Mama Bazoom's (Lin Tucci) weird dialogue and the pointless (Showgirls 2: Penny's from Heaven). We are unapologetic fans of this movie and it can only be summed up in the words of Nomi Malone herself: "It doesn't suck." S2 Ep 5454. Back To The Beach the "lost" episode on location from Palm Springs

E

It only took us a year but we finally got our act together. We started recording Back To The Beach (1987) on a lovely Palm Springs vacation when disaster stuck and half of the episode got lost in the mysterious "cloud." We dusted off this artifact from MTMUG past and shined it up like a new penny - for you! This beach movie throwback to the 60's by way of the 80's is so darn charming, funny and full of cute boys in wetsuits you'll be quoting it all summer. Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon are camp excellence, and there are more cameos than the Pee-wee's Playhouse Christmas Special! S2 Ep 5353. Encino Man with special guests Ashley and Handsome Joe from Keep It Weird

E

We're not saying we wouldn't immediately bathe and shave an un-frozen caveman we found in our backyard - but if the end result was anywhere near early-90's Brendan Fraser, break out the shears! We watched Encino Man (1992) with MTMUG All Star Ashley Casseday from Keep It Weird (with an extra special guest appearance by Handsome Joe) and we're all Crazy for Fra-zee! Much like gay icon Missy Misdemeanor Elliott (allegedly), our memories of this movie put their thing down flipped it and reversed it. Turns out we heart Pauly Shore and Sean Astin is totes the villain of this movie. Don't worry your little queer heads, Brendan is still and always will be an Angel-face dream boat. Robin Tunney (The Craft, Empire Records) plays an amazingly trashy character who is horny for homo (erectus, that is) and Ke Huy Quan turns up for a mini Goonies reunion! S2 Ep 5252. The Mummy (1999)

1999 churned out banger after banger and we're bringing you another entry. The winner of our Brendan Fraser lurv poll is The Mummy and we're diggin' this action comedy crowd pleaser. Beside's Brendan's dreamy face and bangin' bod, this movie has tons of gay touchstones. Rachel Weisz is serving face and Patricia Velasquez is snatching trophies in the body beautiful category. The trio of hunky American treasure hunters are the stuff of gay erotic fiction fantasy and there's more than one mincing, fussy, gay-coded British dude. It's Episode 52 of Movies That Made Us Gay! S2 Ep 5151. The Witches of Eastwick with special guests Erika Villalba and Paul Caiola (That Aged Well)

E

Like when Charlies Angels went on the Love Boat - it's time for a Crossover!! We watched The Witches of Eastwick (1987) with Erika Villalba and Paul Caiola from That Aged Well and we agree on one thing - everyone needs to frolic through a mansion at least once in their life. We talk wigs, wardrobe and wicked witchery as we make our way through this George Miller directed 80's classic. Cher is turning lewks, Susan Sarandon is rocking magnificent flame-red curls and Michelle Pfeiffer can walk the Face category in any Ball and snatch a trophy even with the cold sore shes sporting here. We had NO Business watching this movie as kids but it made us the witchy gays we are today. Thanks for listening and don't forget to subscribe, rate and review us on iTunes! S2 Ep 5050. Batman & Robin with special guest Dylan Hay-Chapman

E

It's Episode 50 so we though long and hard about what movies really had a hand in making us gay - and this one really hit the mark. We watched Batman & Robin (1997) with special return Bat-Guest Dylan Hay-Chapman (Episode 13. Batman Forever). From Chris O'Donnell in the new and improved Nightwing suit to Uma Thurman serving up some Eleganza Extravaganza drag excellence, to Bruce and Dick trading barbs, this movie has all the ingredients to turn any kid into a card carrying Friend of Alfred. S2 Ep 4949. Little Shop of Horrors with special guest Mitch Ralston

E

Suddenly Seymour, we're here to provide you some hot takes on Little Shop of Horrors with Mitch Ralston! We go somewhere that's green as we take a deep dive into the off-off Broadway origins of this mid-80's classic. Ellen Greene is an icon and Rick Moranis is mad 2020 as Audrey and Seymour. We spend the entire run of this episode screaming/singing the lyrics written by Howard Ashman (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast). S2 Ep 4848. Go with special guest Hiko Mitsuzuka

E

Our ever-growing list of 90's movies continues - we watched Go (1999) with #friendofthepod Hiko Mitsuzuka (Ep 15, Adventures in Babysitting) and we would like to talk to you about Confederated Products. This movie is quite possibly the personification of the 90's as a decade. An extended rave, a roundtable conversation about tantric sex and a soundtrack featuring banger after banger by the likes of Len, Natalie Imbruglia and Los Del Rio; if a kid asks what the 90s were like, just show them Go. S2 Ep 4747. The Brady Bunch Movie

E

We're heading back to the 70's by way of the 90's and it's a Sunshine Day! We watched The Brady Bunch movie from 1995 and don't want to believe this movie is old enough to rent a car! We get real deep into our love for this iconic family in all their forms - from the original sitcom, to the Brady Bunch Variety Hour, The Brady Brides, A Very Brady Christmas and beyond. It's clear that we are obsessed with all things Brady and this movie is a shining example of why. We still want to be Marcia but we know in we'll always be the Jan. S2 Ep 4646. Poison Ivy with special guest Michael Morgan

E

The 90's was a wild time - when movies could get away with a teen character played by an actual 17 year old, who bones down with her best friends dad. We watched Poison Ivy (1992) with 3 time MTMUG guest Michael Morgan and we are still clutching our pearls. Our forever homegirl Drew Barrymore plays the mysterious nympho Ivy to Sara Gilbert's mousy Sylvie. These two misunderstood teens from opposite ends of the tracks become instant best friends with dangerous consequences! Cheryl Ladd and Tom Skerritt play Sylvie's tragic/trashy parents respectively, who take an unhealthy liking to Ivy. Suggestive attire, inappropriate conversations and questionable tattoos abound in this erotic psychological thriller - featuring a girl on girl kiss between to teens!!! S2 Ep 4545. Single White Female with special guest Jose Galvez

E

If our roommate in a Manhattan pre-war rent controlled apartment tried to kick us out we can't promise we wouldn't go a little crazy ourselves. We watched Single White Female (1992) with friend of the pod Jose Galvez (Very Special Television) and we're all considering changing our name to Hedra. This early 90's noir tackles the real problems of being a single gal in the city - sexism at work, adulterous boyfriends and creepy obsessive puppy kicking roommates who practice casual at-home nudity and attempt to take over your life. This movie is hagsploitation at its finest and the screenplay by Don Roos (The Opposite of Sex, Happy Endings) has enough gay touchstones (Wigs! Male nudity! Stiletto's as weapons!) to make John Waters proud. Thanks for listening and don't forget to subscribe, rate and review us on iTunes! S2 Ep 4444. Interview With The Vampire with special guest Darcy Miller

E

Our extra special, no holds barred, fight to the death, mega bracket of the Kirsten Dunst filmography has led us here! We watched Interview With The Vampire (1994) with special guest Darcy Miller and we want some more! This whacked out Grand Guignol masquerading as a parable for a gay family unit has everything - Tom Cruise mincing about in fine silks and brocades, Brad Pitt sleep walking his way through the script and an 11 year old Kiki Dunst holding her own against her two grown "fathers" spitting dialogue like she's in a gothic Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? If you like vampires that turn to dust in the sunlight rather than shine bright like a diamond then this movie is for you - Anne Rice likes her vampires old school and her gay allegories Flaming! S2 Ep 4343. Soapdish with special guest Mark Rosenberg

E

They don't make Soap Operas like they used to, and they never quite made them like The Sun Also Sets. We welcome back to the pod soap-expert Mark Rosenberg to review the 1991 camp classic Soapdish. Sally Field is at her comedic best against comedy giants Whoopi Goldberg and Kevin Kline and there are major scene stealing moments from icons Carrie Fisher and Cathy Moriarty. The styling of this movie is so early 90's I can't handle it - Teri Hatcher's hair stylist deserves an Academy Award. We dish about classic soap storylines from the 80s and 90s, which networks were superior (CBS soaps are trash) and we all emphatically agree Kevin Kline can get it. S2 Ep 4242. Bedknobs and Broomsticks with special guest Darren Elms

E

This era of social distancing would be the perfect time to begin a correspondence course in witchcraft! We watched Bedknobs and Broomsticks with friend of the pod Darren Elms and we Stan Angela Lansbury. It's WWII and Miss Price (Lansbury) gets saddled with some cockney waifs at her English countryside manor. There will be no bubble and squeak or toad in the hole for these kids - Miss Price only eats flowers and sticks apparently. We grant this movie the dubious honor of "Mary Poppins for kids who read books" and I'm still not sure if thats a read. Practicing witchcraft to support the war effort, putting a child in charge of the flying bed and riding around town on a motorbike with a sidecar are just some of the reasons Eglantine Price is a queer icon. S2 Ep 4141. Hairspray with special guest Brian Boskind

E

I've been cooped up inside this house all day and my diet pill is wearing off. Not to worry, we're back with more social distancing distractions! We watched the John Waters classic Hairspray (1988) with MTMUG all star (and extra in the movie) Brian Boskind (not to worry, we recorded pre-quarantine rules in CA)! Brian fills us in on working with the legend himself John Waters, Debbie Harry oozing coolness in person and Colleen Fitzpatrick almost meeting an untimely end in a teeny tiny car. And we would all lose our gay cards completely if we didn't mention the amazing Divine as Edna Turnblad. Her performance, wardrobe and styling are worth the price of admission. If you haven't seen the movie they turned into a Broadway musical that they then turned into another movie - do yourself a favor and add it to your quarantine watch list. E

She crashed her van into Jesus - she is NOT OK! We watched Saved! (2004) with special guest Tyler Scheulke and we're still speaking in tongues. This ahead of its time classic deals with issues like de-gayification camps, teen pregnancy and rigging the vote for prom queen. Is losing your virginity to your gay boyfriend to keep him straight the Christian thing to do? Can the bible be used as a weapon? Should Mandy Moore be held responsible for that haircut? S2 Ep 3939. Clueless with special guest Brad Liberti

E

We can't remember algebra but we can quote this entire movie start to finish. We watched Clueless (1995) with Brad Liberti and we're totally buggin! We take a deep dive into this quintessential 90's mega hit. Was the slang made up? Did real 90's kids dress like that? Is it weird that Cher (Alicia Silverstone) and Josh (Paul Rudd) end up together? The answer is WHO CARES! This movie is a perfect gem and no one can convince us otherwise. If you worshipped this movie as a kid, you're totally a disco-dancin', Oscar Wilde readin', Streisand ticket holdin' friend of Dorothy now. E

Name a more iconic duo than Joe Eszterhas and Paul Verhoeven, we'll wait. We watched Basic Instinct (1992) with Chip Pope (It Happened In Hollywood Podcast) and we need a drink... hold the ice. The feminist masterminds who went on to bring us Showgirls (we'll get there) started with a little movie that gifted one Miss Sharon Stone upon the world. We talk 90's erotic thrillers, Michael Douglas' dubious sex appeal and Joe Eszterhas' ability to write dialogue that makes American actors sound like Eastern European ESL students. Honk if you miss gratuitous nudity in main stream American cinema! It's episode 38 of Movies That Made Us Gay.
