Podcast 233: Baja 1000 Ironman Winner Tony Gera
This week on our motorcycle podcast we are joined by Tony Gera, winner of the Baja 1000 Ironman class. Winning this elite race is no easy task, especially when you're doing it on your own as an ironman. And not just that, Tony is his own mechanic stripping down, rebuilding and riding a bike that he bought on Craigslist for $700. Riding with broken bones? No problem for Tony. This guy is the real deal, and only at the age of 22, we expect to hear his name a lot in the future of extreme racing. Send us a self addressed stamped envelope to Motorcycles & Misfits 342 Washington St Santa Cruz, CA 95060 and we'll send you some awesome stickers for free. Podcast 232: Jocelin Snow Returns
This week on our motorcycle podcast we are joined once again by Jocelin Snow, who regales us with her stories from the recent GS Trophy competition in S. Africa. It was there that she won a place on the team to go to Mongolia next year and compete against the best riders in the world. The competition was grueling, including riding blindfolded, deep mud and sand, and being given a new task to compete after already riding for 15 hours. Upon her return home, after just 3 days of rest she headed out for the LA/Barstow/Las Vegas ride just for fun. As good as a rider is, you'd think she knows what it takes to be the best rider in the world, and that's exactly what we ask. Everyone put's in their 2 cents about what riding style requires the most skills. Next up, we announce the winner of our best holiday themed bike photo. Congrats to Dan Hostiuck for the best photo and giving us a laugh. Then we get to some emails, and give a big thanks to our VIP Patreon supporters. Thanks to you! Lastly, it's time for another meeting of the Bikaholics Anonymous, where we confront Bex who's showing the signs of someone losing control. Podcast 200: The Real Vetter Challenge
This week on our motorcycle podcast we take a special trip down to Carmel where we visit Craig, Carol and Zak Vetter at their home. Craig Vetter is an icon in the motorcycle industry most known for inventing the Windjammer fairing, designing the Triumph Hurricane, and most lately working with riders like Electric Terry to create fuel efficient streamlined bikes and hosting the Craig Vetter Fuel Economy Challenge. In August of 2015, Craig was riding his streamlined scooter down a street near his home, when he was struck by a deer and knocked off his bike. It was a day that changed his life forever, and his family's too. Craig suffered from a traumatic brain injury, and lost an entire year of his life that he cannot remember. With the help of his family, friends and community, he has been recovering slowly, and improving every day. So this isn't just his story, it's really his family's story of how their lives have changed taking care of someone with a TBI, and how a small army came to support them and help them through this difficult period. Podcast 189: Lighting It Up with Brake Free Tech
This week on our motorcycle podcast we are joined by Alex and Ian from Brake Free Tech. They have created a helmet mounted brake light like no other on the market. I've often wondered why high viz helmets and vests, headlight modulators and other visibility aids aren't more common. I think it's because they either aren't cool, cost too much, or are too complicated to install. This may be the product that solves all those problems. We also read some listener emails and answer some questions, do a Craigslist Porn Pick, and catch up with what everyone's been up to this past week. With Liza, Bagel, Isaac, Douglas, Nak, Emma, Alex, Ian, Kat, Lucas, Charley, Jon Dalton and Naked Jim. http://www.brakefreetech.com/ https://www.instagram.com/brakefreetech/ Call and leave us a message at 831-291-5112 Go to motorcyclesandmisfits.com to find the links to our Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Patreon and more. Podcast 188: The Handsome Asians Motorcycle Club
This week on our motorcycle podcast, we manage to have survived the storms without washing away, unlike many of our roads. But that doesn't stop people from coming out and spending a day wrenching and riding. And that includes a visit from baby Freya, who made her visit to the garage at just 3 days old. We hear from our guests, Paolo, Erik and Frank from the Handsome Asians Motorcycle Club. They have made some great motorcycle movies and shorts, as well as their web series of the same name. I would describe their show as equal parts motorcycle maintenance, guest interviews and scripted comedy with a sprinkle of Pee Wee's Playhouse and Spinal Tap. We also have a call from Carl Reese, who has an announcement about a new world record he is setting out to beat. Listen and enjoy. Podcast 186: Poll Brown, Tifffany Camhi and the Dirtbag Challenge
This week on our motorcycle podcast we are joined by Poll Brown and Tiffany Camhi. Poll is the man behind the Dirtbag Challenge, a low rent chopper build off that we attend every year. It's hard to accurately describe this event. It's like the mosh pit of bike shows, and is an event that needs to be experienced. Contestants have a limited budget and a short amount of time to build a bike that can endure a lengthy road trip. Poll has a long history with motorcycles, and we learn all about this mysterious man in the striped sweater, including what his UTB bike is. Tiffany is a reporter who experienced the Dirtbag Challenge up close by riding along on the 200 mile journey, while getting to know Poll and the other builders along the way. Like many people who attend this event, she has been inspired to build her own budget chopper. With Liza, Bagel, Nak, Douglas, Mike, Emma, Tiffany, Poll, Mycah, Naked Jim, Charley and the peanut gallery. https://www.facebook.com/DirtbagChallenge/ http://www.dirtbagchallenge.com/ https://ww2.kqed.org/arts/2016/12/16/dirtbag-challenge-shows-what-two-wheels-a-wrench-and-your-wits-can-do/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6GB-s1ib5g Call and leave us a message at 831-291-5112 Go to motorcyclesandmisfits.com to find the links to our Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Patreon and more. She carried on the family tradition and got into racing herself, and taking it all the way to be the first woman to win a race on the Isle of Man’s Mountain Course. She took the honors in the Manx GP Ultra-lightweight class, and is still very much a part of the Manx GP. Podcast 184: Liza Just Doesn't Get It
This week on our motorcycle podcast, we've got a small group and a lot to talk about. This week was the Vampire's Naked Ride, and not everyone made it to the end. Liza struggles to understand why anyone would want to spend a lot of money to soup up their big twin, scooter or any bike that isn't intended for the track. Shout out to the Loud Pipes podcast for making Liza say "Why, but why?" We play a new version of What's It Worth. Lucas lets loose and tells us what bikes he would send to the crusher. We finish up with listener emails. With Liza, Nak, Bagel, Emma, Lucas, Alex, Isaac and Charley.
