Ep 352Are We Even A Couple Anymore?

E

I get real about something so many of us feel but rarely say out loud: what the heck happened to my marriage? I speak directly to moms who feel like they’re living parallel lives with their partner—amazing teammates and parents, but disconnected lovers. I share how the mental load, cognitive overload, and constant fight-or-flight nervous system state slowly push intimacy, desire, and playfulness to the bottom of the priority list. Using my own story of realizing my husband and I had slipped into “roommate” mode, I walk through how awareness—not shame—is the first step to change. I then offer five practical ways to start reigniting the spark: seeing each other again through deeper questions, ditching logistics-only conversations, rebuilding connection through touch, having brave “spicy” conversations, and creating things to look forward to together. This episode is a reminder that you’re not “just a mom”—you’re a whole woman who deserves a relationship that feels alive, loving, and deeply connected. Here’s Scottie’s 5‑point list from the episode, ready for your show notes: 1. See each other again Ask real questions beyond logistics: - “What are you dreaming about lately?” - “What do you wish we had going on in our life right now?” - “What’s something you miss from when we first met?” 2. Ditch the logistics energy Go on a date with a "no-kid-talk rule". Even 30–45 minutes at a local spot where you’re just two adults again—not administrators or co-CEOs of the household. 3. Touch each other a lot Rebuild body trust and connection with casual, frequent touch: - Hugs - Hand-holding - Sitting closer - Playful brushes and booty grabs in passing 4. Have the spicy convo Be bold and vulnerable. Send a text or start a conversation that says, “I miss you” or “I want more connection,” instead of just talking schedules and to‑dos. 5. Create something together Make a **shared future** that’s not about the kids: - A couples’ bucket list - A weekend trip - Plans for your life together after the kids leave the house Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 351The “Good Mom” Trap That’s Draining You (and how to get yourself back)

I open up about the “good mom trap” and why so many of us feel exhausted, resentful, and disconnected even though we’re doing “all the right things.” I explain that our real issue usually isn’t time, it’s permission—our nervous system has learned that constant busyness equals safety and goodness, while rest and pleasure feel selfish or even dangerous. Drawing on polyvagal theory, I share how past experiences and subconscious patterns train us to stay on the hamster wheel, chasing praise and productivity while slowly abandoning ourselves. I walk you through small, tolerable steps to show your nervous system that it’s safe to slow down and choose yourself—in five-minute breaks, moments of saying no, or doing something purely because you enjoy it. Ultimately, this isn’t just about self-care; it’s about modeling nervous system regulation for our kids and reclaiming our own joy, identity, and aliveness. You make sense, and you matter. Ep 350You’re Done People Pleasing — Now What? Wiith Diane Sorensen

Scottie Durrett and Diane Sorenson discuss the challenges of modern motherhood, focusing on boundaries, people pleasing, and the pressure to be a perfect mom. Diane shares her journey from a performance-based motherhood to embracing emotional development and relationship-based practices. She emphasizes the importance of self-connection and understanding one's true self beyond societal expectations. Diane also highlights the need for mothers to recognize and address their children's emotional needs, rather than just focusing on behavior. She offers resources and coaching sessions to help mothers navigate these complexities and foster genuine connections with their children. https://www.dianesorensen.net/, [email protected] , Chaos to Connection Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chaos-to-connection-boundaries-and-breakthroughs-for/id1537667173 Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 349I Spoke Up… and My Ovaries Restarted

E

I share a wild story about my body and my relationship with my mom. After almost two years without a period, I was convinced I was in menopause—I'd started HRT, talked about it on the podcast, and mentally moved into that next phase of life. Then I had a 49‑years‑in‑the‑making, honest, loving but unfiltered conversation with my mom where I finally said everything I’d been holding inside. The very next week, my period came back in full force. I’m not claiming a lab-proven miracle, but the timing made me look closely at how deeply our emotions, stress, and nervous system impact our hormones and physical health. I talk about being the “good daughter” and lifelong emotional caretaker, how that chronic stress lived in my body, and how our stress responses (fight, flight, freeze, fawn, flop) shape our decisions and our health. I share how setting a boundary—telling my mom I’m not responsible for her happiness—let my nervous system exhale, strengthened our relationship, and reminded me that our bodies are always listening. I also referenced two old MOMPLEX episodes in this show. You can episode 44 here and 46 here. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ep 348K. Margaret Solario: Finding Calm in Chaos, The Power of Energy

E

I speak with intuitive guide, energy mentor, and author K. Margaret Solario to explore how we can bring more ease, calm, and alignment into our everyday lives as moms—without having to change our entire external world. Kay shares how COVID became her breaking point, shifting her from “holding it all together” to realizing life shouldn’t feel like constant battle armor and a race against time. Over three years, she experimented with energy, mindset, and time, eventually creating the tools she now shares in her book, Make Ease Your Vibe. We talk about reframing our relationship with time, letting go of the belief that big dreams require huge blocks of perfect conditions. Kay shares how she wrote her first draft in just 15 focused minutes a day. We dig into mindset patterns like over-explaining, proving our worth, and arguing for our own limitations, and how shifting these creates more freedom. She also introduces the idea of energetic clutter in our homes—how spaces hold emotional residue—and explains her Home Frequency Reset work, which she does remotely with angelic guidance. Throughout, we come back to one core truth: joy and ease aren’t luxuries for moms; they’re the point, and living that truth becomes a powerful blueprint for our kids. You can connect with K. Ep 347Cougar Puberty: 12 WTF Signs of Perimenopause No One Warned Us About

E

I open up a real, unfiltered conversation about perimenopause and why so many of us feel confused, exhausted, and a little bit like we’re “losing it.” I talk directly to moms who are doing “all the right things” and still don’t feel good—physically, mentally, or emotionally. Instead of brushing symptoms off as “just getting older” or “just mom life,” I invite you to see them as messages from your body asking for attention, care, and support. I share how shifting hormones like estrogen and progesterone impact everything from your period to your mood, sleep, skin, energy, and even your tolerance for other people’s nonsense. I reframe perimenopause as a sacred transition—not you falling apart, but you falling into alignment and meeting a new, more honest, powerful version of yourself. I walk you through simple tools like breathwork, rest, tracking symptoms, movement in micro doses, and getting real medical help so you stop suffering in silence. Most importantly, I remind you that feeling good is your birthright. You’re not broken; you’re evolving. The 12 signs I cover: Unpredictable periods Rage texting/posting Memory/brain fog Sore, swollen breasts Hot/cold flashes Crushing exhaustion Emotional whiplash Skin and hair changes Rising anxiety Heightened senses Low tolerance for BS 3 a.m. existential spirals Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 346Finding Your Classic Style and Embracing Who YOU are with Artist, Author and Mother, Kate Schelter

E

I am joined by artist, author, and creative director Kate Schelter to talk about what happens when motherhood and crisis completely crack your identity open. Kate shares how leaving New York City after twenty years, having two babies in two years, and living through COVID left her feeling stripped of her professional self and flooded with fear and anxiety—even while she was sitting in the “abundant nest” she’d always dreamed of. We dive into how she slowly rebuilt a sense of self by fiercely advocating for her own needs, like non‑negotiable solo trips back into the city, and why doing what lights you up is essential for your kids, not selfish. Kate explains her philosophy of personal style as authentic handwriting, the danger of “snowplow parenting,” and how to model courage, creativity, and self-trust instead of martyrdom. This conversation is a love letter to ambitious moms who refuse to choose between their art, their work, and their children. Ep 3455 Humbling Lessons I’ve Learned as a Mama

I use this Momplex episode to share some of the most humbling lessons I’ve learned as a mom and to call BS on the idea that we have to be perfect. For years, I believed that every mistake meant I was failing and that everyone was judging me and my kids. I now see mistakes as feedback, not proof that I’m a bad mom. Backed by neuroplasticity and growth mindset, I talk about how our brains—and our lives—are always capable of change. I share real stories about chasing gold stars, comparing my kids to others, taking their behavior personally, and gripping so tightly to their outcomes that I missed the actual moments with them. I also admit how long I put my own life on hold. In this episode, I invite you to drop the shame, live your own life more fully, and model self-compassion and resilience for your kids. The 5 things I talk about: Waiting for praise – Depending on others’ validation instead of my own. Holding my kids to someone else’s timeline – Pushing milestones instead of trusting their pace. Taking it personally – Making their moods and meltdowns about me. Being obsessed with their wins and losses – Treating their outcomes like a report card on my parenting. Waiting on my life because of them – Pausing my own dreams instead of showing them what a fully lived life looks like. Ep 344When Life Breaks You Open: Grief, Survival & Finding Joy Again with Alexandra Wyman

E

I talk with Alexandra Wyman, a mom, author, podcast host, and pediatric occupational therapist who became a single mom after losing her husband to suicide just four days before their second wedding anniversary. Alexandra shares how she spent years following the “checklist” for a perfect life—college, career, marriage, house, kids—and how it finally felt like everything had clicked when she met her husband and started a family. When he died by suicide, that entire vision disappeared overnight, and she was left grieving not only her husband, but the life, identity, and future she thought she was supposed to have. We dig into what grief really looks like behind the scenes: Feeling like a shell of a person and having almost no capacity.Letting the smallest things be enough—sometimes just getting out of bed or giving her one-year-old a bath. Finding an anchor (for her, it was her son) as a reason to keep going, even when nothing made sense. Alexandra talks honestly about the social side of grief—how some people you expect to show up don’t, how others quietly check in with simple “thinking of you” messages that mean everything, and how little we’re taught about death, estates, and supporting someone through profound loss. We also explore the inner work she’s done: Untangling people-pleasing, outcome-controlling, and long-held feelings of abandonment and low self-worth.Learning she didn’t need a partner to “complete” her; her wholeness was already within her. Blending neuroscience (understanding what grief does to the brain) with spirituality (leaning on her “spirit team” and a bigger sense of purpose). As a mom, Alexandra is now focused on raising her son to be grounded in who he is, instead of seeking validation from others. She’s shifted away from the idea that kids’ behavior defines a parent’s worth, and instead sees parenting as a mutual learning process where both parent and child are growing, regulating, and healing together. Out of her experience, Alexandra created: Her book, The Suicide Club: What to Do When Someone You Love Chooses Death, written as the handbook she wishes she’d had.Her podcast, Forward to Joy, where she shares tools and stories about grief, healing, and finding meaning after loss. This conversation is for any mom whose life doesn’t look the way she thought it would, who feels like she’s rebuilding from the ground up. Alexandra reminds us that grief isn’t linear, joy isn’t off-limits, and it’s okay to move forward in baby steps—one small act of living and loving at a time. Connect with Alexadra's podcast here. Scottie was honored to be a guest on Alexandra Wyman’s podcast FORWARD TO JOY, continuing the conversation around grief, loss, and how moms survive, find joy and balance. 🎧 Listen here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/scottie-durrett/id1688936836?i=1000746976317 Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 343Soul Saving Mantra for 2026: "They Will Get it When They Get it"

This episode of Momplex is all about releasing the pressure of parenting by milestones and trusting our kids’ unique timelines. I share how I started Momplex in 2021 as a safe space to admit that while I adore my kids, I wasn’t always loving motherhood—and how that honesty became a movement for moms who are tired of guilt and perfectionism. I walk you through my own anxiety when my kids didn’t “measure up” on traditional timelines—my middle son’s delayed puberty, my daughter’s late crawling and hair growth, and how those fears kept me up at night. Through personal stories and what the science actually says, I reframe milestones as ranges, not report cards. I offer mindset shifts and practical tools to help you stop comparing, mute triggering social feeds, and trust that your child—and you—will “get it when you get it.” You’re not behind. Ep 341When You’re ‘Fine’: Identifying the Sneaky Triggers of Mom Burnout

I talk honestly about how overwhelming life can feel, especially during busy seasons like May when it seems like everything happens at once. Despite my best self-care efforts—hydrating, sleeping well, and taking supplements—I still found myself completely exhausted, wanting nothing more than to collapse on the sofa with a Diet Coke and a crime show. I share that these ups and downs aren’t isolated to certain months; as moms, we’re constantly navigating new challenges, whether just making it through the week or managing our kids at home during summer. I get real about how future-tripping in search of relief becomes an exhausting cycle, and how our overworked bodies and minds eventually demand we pay attention. One of the biggest messages I want to share is the power of self-awareness and choice. No matter what’s going on with your family, kids, or community, you have power over your responses. I introduce my favorite practice from Kabbalah—the pause and reflection—and stress that our feelings are valid, but they’re also clues about what we need. I also open up about my personal struggles—a difficult year with the sudden loss of our dog, my father-in-law’s illness, and my daughter’s tough college admissions season. Even when I appeared “fine” on the outside, I was feeling drained inside. I explain how depression doesn’t always look like sadness; sometimes it’s that sense of going through the motions without a spark. To support listeners, I break down the sneaky triggers of depression: emotional overload, nutrient deficiencies, hormones, thyroid issues, poor sleep, alcohol, loneliness, chronic pain, and low libido. I offer practical advice for each, encouraging small, manageable changes—like getting outside, calling a friend, or saying no to just one task today. Most importantly, I encourage everyone to take their feelings seriously, seek professional or community support when needed, and remember that taking care of ourselves sets an example for our kids. I’m here to help, and I invite listeners to reach out for personalized support. My mission is to empower you with tools, truth, and a reminder: you deserve to feel good and truly enjoy your life, starting with simple, intentional choices today. Ep 340Why Healing Yourself Helps Your Whole Family with Melissa Armstrong

I welcomed Melissa Armstrong, whose journey from childhood trauma to holistic healing is both heartbreaking and inspiring. Listening to Melissa recount her experiences—facing family adversity, surviving a school shooting, and enduring the devastating loss of her brother—reminded me how resilient we can be. As she described how the compassion of ICU nurses inspired her to become one herself and later transition into holistic health, I was struck by her courage to keep healing and help others do the same. We talked about the realities of “mom life,” the hidden effects of trauma, and how symptoms like brain fog and anxiety often go ignored. Melissa shared practical, accessible steps like mindful breathing and EFT tapping, which I believe will truly empower our listeners. Her reminder that healing is a choice and that we’re never alone will stay with me. I’m honored to share her story and these transformative tools. Melissa had a chaotic and traumatic childhood that was marked by parental addiction and abuse, surviving a school shooting at 15, and witnessing her brother's tragic death at 18. These unresolved traumas manifested into severe physical symptoms, leading her to explore alternative healing methods. Over more than 20 years, she transitioned from a career in nursing to becoming a Trauma-Informed Functional Health Practitioner. Today, she empowers women and their families to heal their mind, body, and spirit with root-cause healing through the mind-body connection, somatic work, nervous system regulation, lab testing, lifestyle changes, and nutrition. Ep 339Choose You: Why Self-Trust Is the New Self-Improvement

E

I welcome you to 2026 with my mantra, "2026: I choose me," inviting moms to stop abandoning themselves and to embrace their true selves. I rejected New Year's resolutions rooted in shame and ego, urging soul-led goals and specific intentions. I shared personal stories—choosing to wear a bright pink sweater and speaking up at a holiday tea—to illustrate trusting gut over conditioned fear. I encouraged dropping over-explaining, setting simple boundaries, and allowing desires without justifying them to others. I emphasized embodiment over fixing: move from head to body, breathe, take nature walks, and practice rituals that calm the nervous system so intuition can guide action. I reminded listeners that living authentically models courage for our children, helps manifest change, and attracts the right people. I offered calibration sessions to support this work and closed with reassurance: You’re doing better than you think and you are exactly the mama your kids need. Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 3385 Messages Your Higher Self Needs You to Hear Before 2026

I tuned into my higher self and spirit guides to share five guiding themes for the year ahead. I talk about releasing the extra pressure we carry, trusting the natural timing of things instead of forcing outcomes, and widening our focus so life feels richer and more balanced. I encourage opening up to new voices and experiences, and learning to both receive guidance and co-create with it. Along the way I offer simple practices—breathwork, walks, small morning rituals—to help you reconnect with your intuition. The episode is an invitation to move into 2026 with more ease, clarity, and wholehearted presence. Shed what isn’t yours to carry — release burdens and responsibilities that drain your energy. Stop forcing outcomes — trust timing and let things grow on their own. Expand your focus — look beyond tunnel vision and re-balance attention across life’s “pie slices.” Welcome new sounds/channels — be open to new ideas, people, books, and perspectives. Be a receiver and co-creator — listen to your intuition, receive guidance, and let support show up. Get your personalized reading for 2026 Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 337Feeling Like Sh*t Isn’t Normal: How to Get Healthier, Happier & Hotter with Functional Practitioner Layne VanLieshout

I chatted with functional practitioner Layne Vanlieshout about reclaiming health as a mom. I opened up about how exhaustion, brain fog, bloating, and being dismissed by doctors had become normalized — and Lane shared her own turning point of panic attacks and mysterious symptoms that conventional care didn’t resolve. She explained a gut-first, root-cause approach: nourish the body, prioritize regular meals (especially breakfast), support the microbiome, and reduce physical stressors so hormones, digestion, and energy can rebalance. We talked practical steps — add colorful plant foods, protein, fermented foods, and bone broth — and when targeted labs like a GI‑MAP can clarify underlying issues. Lane offers deep one‑on‑one work and a self‑paced 12‑week reset for busy moms. The episode’s core message: normal isn’t optimal. Ep 336What Healthy Boundaries Actually Look Like at the Holidays

E

As a mom, I know the holiday season can be overwhelming. We're constantly juggling expectations from family, social media, and our own hearts, trying to create the perfect experience. In this episode, I share my journey of learning to set boundaries and protect my energy. I've realized that people-pleasing and trying to make everyone happy only leads to resentment and burnout. I want to help moms understand that it's okay to prioritize themselves. Setting boundaries isn't about being difficult; it's about clarity and self-respect. Whether it's limiting event time, choosing what conversations to engage in, or saying no to peer pressure, these small steps can transform the holiday experience. The most important lesson? By taking care of myself, I'm not just helping myself - I'm modeling healthy behavior for my children and breaking generational patterns of self-sacrifice. Book Your Clarity Reading here. Ep 335The Hardest Help: A Story of Alcoholism, Loss & Hope with Holly Thorton

I wanted to create a space for Holly to share her vulnerable story about losing her husband to alcoholism at just 36 years old. Through our conversation, we explored the complex journey of supporting a loved one struggling with addiction, the importance of trusting your instincts, and how moms can find strength even in their most challenging moments. Holly's story is a testament to resilience - showing how we can navigate incredibly difficult circumstances while trying to hold our families together. We discussed the subtle red flags of addiction, the challenges of setting boundaries, and the critical importance of supporting oneself through impossible situations. My goal was to create an episode that would make listeners feel seen, supported, and hopeful, even when life feels overwhelming. Holly Thornton is a writer and advocate dedicated to helping people coping with loved ones’ alcoholism. (The Hardest Help) After tragically losing her husband Steve to alcoholism, she drew on personal experience — and recognized the lack of practical guidance available — to write The Hardest Help. Rather than offering a memoir or purely clinical manual, her book serves as a hands-on guide: blending lived experience with actionable tools, scripts, exercises, and advice rooted in evidence-based methods. Through her writing and outreach (on social media and other platforms), Holly seeks to equip families and loved ones with real-world strategies to support someone struggling with addiction — transforming helpless concern into informed, compassionate action. Ep 330The Mom’s Guide to Reclaiming Joy in Motherhood with Whitney Baker

I brought Whitney Baker on to explore a critical issue for moms: how we lose ourselves in the chaos of motherhood. We dove deep into the ways moms run on autopilot, constantly doing for everyone else while neglecting their own needs. Whitney helped me articulate something I've felt deeply - that taking care of ourselves isn't selfish, it's actually the most generous thing we can do for our families. Whitney Baker is the founder of Electric Ideas, a movement helping modern women—especially moms—wake back up to themselves and reclaim the spark they’ve lost in the noise of roles and responsibilities. Instead, I'm choosing to protect my peace, redefine success on my terms, and show my kids that it's okay to prioritize your own joy. Ep 330How To Say No and Keep The Peace This Holiday

E

I'm diving deep into the art of saying no during the holiday season. I share my personal journey of trying to make everyone happy during my parents' divorce, and how it left me stressed and disconnected. The key is to prioritize your family's needs first. I recommend sitting down together and discussing what everyone truly wants from the holidays. Ep 328The Toxic Instagram Mom Lies keeping you STUCK

E

I'm uncovering the toxic world of mom reels on social media. You know those hilarious videos of moms in messy kitchens making jokes about never peeing alone? I'm calling them out. I'll share how I escaped feeling invisible and overwhelmed by making small, intentional choices that brought my joy and energy back. This isn't about being a perfect Instagram mom or a suffering martyr - it's about finding that beautiful middle ground where you can love your kids and yourself. Ep 327Maxed Out? It’s Not You—It’s the “I Can’t” Lie

E

I dive deep into the reality of burnout for modern moms. I challenge the dangerous "I can't" mindset that keeps us stuck, exhausted, and disconnected from ourselves. Drawing from my personal experience of feeling overwhelmed while standing in a messy kitchen late one night, I expose how burnout isn't just about being tired—it's about losing our identity and living on autopilot. I share startling statistics: nearly 70% of working parents are burned out, and only a quarter of moms report excellent mental health. But here's the truth: burnout is optional. I offer practical strategies to break free, like taking micro-pauses, saying no to draining commitments, and asking for help. My message is clear: you're not broken, you're a badass. Stop waiting for "someday" and start reclaiming your life now. Thriving is available, and you absolutely deserve it. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

I spoke with Kristine Gardner, a wellness coach who helps women over 40 reclaim their joy and live their best lives. We dove deep into the power of morning routines and positive thinking. Christine emphasized that joy is our birthright and showed how small shifts in our mindset can dramatically change our experience. We talked about regulating our nervous system, the importance of self-care, and how taking just two minutes for ourselves can reset our entire day. Ep 325You've Launched Them Successfully, Now What?

E

As a mom who’s poured my heart and soul into raising my kids, I know firsthand how challenging it is when they leave home. This episode is my honest reflection on the identity shift that comes with launching your children into the world. I share my own experiences—like the strange feeling of grocery shopping without my daughter and the anxiety of not knowing exactly where she is. I talk about the emotional roller coaster, the pressure society puts on mothers, and the importance of redefining who I am beyond motherhood. I encourage other moms to reconnect with their dreams, explore new hobbies, and have open conversations with their partners. Most importantly, I remind myself and my listeners that we’re always our children’s home base, but we deserve to thrive too. Ep 32421 Years of Marriage… and the One Thing I’ve Learned After Kids

E

I want to share my insights on maintaining a strong marriage after having kids. Marriage is like a team sport, and the key is remembering you're on the same team. In my 21-year marriage, I've learned that small moments matter more than grand gestures. Flirting, supporting each other, and recognizing each other's efforts are crucial. I've experienced the challenges of parallel lives after having children - feeling disconnected, exhausted, and struggling to maintain intimacy. But I've discovered that redefining romance, embracing micro-moments of connection, and letting each other be imperfect can keep the relationship alive. My message is simple: choose each other every day. Whether it's a quick hug, a flirty text, or helping with household chores, these small acts of teamwork can reignite your connection and remind you why you fell in love in the first place. Ep 323September Is a Mom’s Hunger Games — Here’s How to Win

E

I know how overwhelming it can feel to juggle school, sports, work, and family life. In this episode, I share my own experiences—like dropping my daughter at college while my boys started school without me—and the realization that simply pushing through isn’t sustainable. I want you to thrive, not just survive, so I offer five sanity moves: Here are the five “sanity moves” from the episode: 1. Lower the bar – Give yourself permission to not do everything perfectly. Focus on what you have the bandwidth for and let go of unnecessary expectations.2. The 15-second reset – When stress hits, pause for 15 seconds (or even just five), take a deep breath, and reset before responding.3. Say one brave “No” – Protect your energy by saying no to at least one thing that drains you this week.4. Borrow your calm – Your kids mirror your vibe. Take a grounding breath, step outside, or pause before responding to help set a calm tone for your family.5. Anchor in the joy – Schedule one non-negotiable joyful activity for yourself this month and protect it like an important meeting. Ep 322Why Are There So Many Freaking Apps for Sports?

E

As a mom navigating the chaotic world of youth sports, I'm overwhelmed by the endless apps, group chats, and logistical nightmares. Managing my kids' sports schedules feels like running a Fortune 500 company from my car, with nothing but a team hat as compensation. I've found myself drowning in multiple sports apps like TeamSnap and SportsEngine, constantly worried about missing crucial information about uniforms, practice times, and tournament availability. To maintain my sanity, I've implemented some game-changing strategies: a color-coded wall calendar, limiting group chat responses, and most importantly, delegating responsibilities to my kids. I'm teaching them to take ownership of their sports commitments, just like I did when I played sports without smartphones. The key is simplifying the chaos, staying calm, and remembering that we moms don't have to carry the entire load. We're in this together, surviving on iced coffee and the hope that someday, coaches will unite and use just one app. Tips: 1. Wall Calendar Strategy Get a large white erase board Color-code by kid, sport, and life activities Put everything in one visible spot Update at the beginning of each month 2. Text Chain Management Stop replying to every group chat Catch up with parents in person at tournaments Reduce digital communication stress 3. Delegate to Kids Have kids ask coaches about practice times Encourage kids to write their own schedules Make kids responsible for uniform preparation Let them manage team expectation 4. Simplification Techniques Give some responsibilities to kids Ask partners to help with app management Reduce digital overwhelm Focus on personal communication 5. Mindset Shifts Take radical responsibility for personal wellness Practice deep breathing to manage anxiety Recognize you don't have to do everything Understand that your calm is contagious to kids 6. Practical Tips Prepare uniforms the night before Communicate directly with coaches Keep a backup of all uniforms in a bag Stay organized and proactive Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 320Stop Calling It 'Just Mom Life' — It’s Slowly Killing You

E

As a mom and host of the Momplex Podcast, I’m passionate about helping other mothers rediscover their joy and confidence. In this episode, I call out the myth that feeling exhausted and overwhelmed is just “mom life.” I share my own struggles with burnout, brain fog, and constant stress, and how I learned to listen to my body’s signals. By regulating my nervous system through conscious breathing, movement, grounding, and self-care, I transformed my health and mindset. I encourage you to notice your symptoms, join my free 7-Day Nervous System Reset Challenge, and reach out with what you’re experiencing. You don’t have to accept feeling drained—healing is possible, and when you prioritize yourself, you set a powerful example for your kids. Let’s break the cycle of burnout together and step into our most energized, confident, and joyful lives. I know I gave a few "lists" in this episode but I have shared them with you here. 1. Symptoms of a dysregulated nervous system: - Chronic exhaustion (tired even after sleep) - Brain fog (forgetfulness, confusion) - Mood swings (loss of interest, irritability) - Digestive issues (bloating, constipation, diarrhea, appetite changes) - Sleep struggles (trouble falling/staying asleep, no dreams, waking at 3am) - Anxiety (constant worry, expecting bad news) - Frequent sickness (catching colds easily, slow recovery) - Physical tension (tight jaw, headaches, tense neck/shoulders) - Hormonal shifts (perimenopause effects, feeling weaker) 2. Tips to regulate your nervous system: - Conscious breathing (deep, belly breaths, habit-stacked into daily routines) - Movement (not just exercise—walking, shaking out limbs, dancing, moving during calls) - Grounding (noticing senses: 5 things you see, 4 feel, 3 hear, 2 smell, 1 taste) - Singing and humming (using your voice for regulation) - Pausing before reacting (hand on chest, deep breath, ask how you want to respond) 3. "Nervous system triggered mom moments" (examples of signs you might be dysregulated): - Snack rage (irritation when kids ask for snacks) - Forgetting why you entered a room - Freezing when someone calls "mom" - Anxiety from email/phone notifications - Invisible mental load (remembering everyone’s needs, forgetting your own) - Late-night Netflix/revenge procrastination (staying up for alone time) - Overreaction regret (snapping at family, then feeling guilty) - Super stressed shoulders/neck pain - Digestion issues (bloating, unexplained changes) - Waking up at 3am, frequent illness You will also find this Episode Useful: Stop Doomscrolling & Reclaim sleep (end revenge bedtime procrastination) Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 319How to Talk to Your Kids About Loss—When the World Feels Scary and Sad

E

As a mom and host of the Momplex Podcast, I know how heavy grief can feel, especially when it touches our children. In this episode, I share my own journey navigating loss and offer practical ways to help our kids process grief. I believe in being honest with our children—using clear, simple words like “death” and “died,” rather than vague phrases that can confuse or scare them. I encourage letting kids ask questions and expressing that it’s okay not to have all the answers. Modeling healthy ways to process emotions, like crying or journaling, shows our kids that feelings are safe and normal. Most importantly, I remind them—and myself—that they are loved and safe, and that we’ll figure things out together. Supporting our children through grief not only helps them build resilience, but also heals parts of ourselves. We are the exact parents our kids need, right now. Ep 318How to Offer Comfort to Those Who Are Hurting (Without Making It About Us)

This is about the challenging topic of grief and supporting loved ones through loss. I share insights on how to genuinely help friends and family experiencing profound sadness, emphasizing the importance of showing up consistently and authentically. I offer practical advice like saying the loved one's name, providing specific help, and being present long after the initial mourning period. I also discuss how to help children navigate grief, teaching them compassion and emotional awareness. My message is clear: grief is a lifelong journey, and we shouldn't shy away from supporting those in pain. I stress that it's not about saying the perfect thing, but about making people feel loved, seen, and supported. By leaning in during difficult times, we create a compassionate environment that helps people heal. Ep 314Mastering Communication with Your Kids

E

Once again I dive into the deep end of parenting as our kids grow and push boundaries. I share my own experiences and mistakes, emphasizing the importance of open communication and not taking our children’s behavior personally. I discuss how our approach must evolve as our kids mature, and how their pushback is often a sign of growth, not failure. I talk about the need to stay calm, regulate our own emotions, and set clear, consistent boundaries. I encourage connecting with our children before correcting them, and being curious about what their behavior is really communicating. I remind listeners that our kids’ actions are not a reflection of our worth as parents, but an opportunity to guide and support them. Ultimately, I hope to empower moms to trust themselves, grow alongside their children, and foster stronger, more respectful relationships at home. I dive deep into the realities of traveling with kids—from toddlers to grown children—and how these trips can be both chaotic and magical. I share my own experiences and honest truths about the challenges moms face, like packing for toddlers, managing expectations, and finding moments of self-care and joy amidst the chaos. I talk about the importance of keeping routines for little ones, giving older kids choices, and letting teens have autonomy (and sleep!). I also get real about maintaining intimacy with your partner on family trips and why it’s essential to prioritize yourself, not just your family. Throughout the episode, I encourage you to reframe your mindset around family travel, set clear intentions for your trips, and remember that the best memories often come from imperfect moments. Ep 312How to Embrace the Summer Slowdown (summer series 3)

E

As a mom, navigating the end of the school year and the start of summer, I'm sharing my insights on how we can avoid burnout and truly enjoy this season. In this episode,, I dive deep into the importance of slowing down and giving ourselves and our kids a much-needed break. Summer isn't about constant activity, but about rest, connection, and healing. I challenge moms to let go of the pressure to create perfect memories and instead embrace unstructured time, boredom, and spontaneity. By normalizing mess, creating buffer zones in our day, and speaking kindly to ourselves, we can teach our children (and ourselves) how to regulate our nervous systems. The key is to listen to our bodies, allow for flexibility, and remember that presence matters more than perfection. Ep 311Breaking the Busy Cycle: A Mom's Guide (smr detox part 2)

E

A deep dive into the culture of busyness and its impact on our nervous system. As a mom, I've struggled with the addiction to being constantly productive, believing my worth was tied to my to-do list. I share my personal journey of realizing how chronic stress and the need to always be doing something was harming my mental and physical health. I explore how our subconscious mind equates busyness with safety and significance, and offer practical tips for breaking this cycle. By creating micro-moments of stillness, redefining what "enough" means, and practicing rest without guilt, we can heal our nervous system and reclaim our sense of self. The message is simple: We are not machines, but souls who need space to breathe and heal. As a mom navigating the end of the school year, I'm feeling every emotion possible right now. June has arrived, and I'm simultaneously exhausted and overwhelmed. My nervous system is completely fried from the chaos of May - field days, final projects, teacher gifts, and endless schedules. I'm processing so many feelings about my kids growing up. My oldest is graduating and heading to college, my sophomore is becoming more independent, and my youngest is finishing sixth grade. Each of them is in a different emotional space, and I'm trying to support them while managing my own complex emotions. The key is giving myself grace. I'm recognizing that grief and joy can coexist. Ep 308I’m a Bad MFer & Other Mantras I’m Giving My Kids

E

As a mom and life coach, I'm passionate about understanding the power of our subconscious mind. I've learned that 95% of our thoughts, actions, and feelings are controlled by our subconscious, which means we're essentially living out a script written long ago. By changing our internal dialogue and beliefs, we can transform our reality. I teach this to my kids and myself daily - using positive affirmations, visualization, and understanding that we're both the problem and the solution. Our thoughts are chemical messengers that can trigger stress or healing. By speaking to ourselves with kindness and belief, we can literally rewire our brain and create the life we want. If you’re ready to break cycles, boost your confidence, and raise empowered, emotionally intelligent kids, this one is for you. Ep 306The Green Door Life Vision for Strength and Nutrition

E

I'm diving deep into the real talk about motherhood, health, and reclaiming our bodies. I sit down with Shannon Morse and Lisa Kirby, founders of the Green Door Life, to have the conversation I wish someone had with me years ago. We're not talking about another diet hack or magic pill, but real healing that addresses the root of why so many moms feel disconnected from themselves. Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered, "Who am I?" or felt like your body is constantly screaming at you? Me too. Shannon and Lisa are here to help us stop white-knuckling through motherhood, perimenopause, and life, and start actually thriving. We're breaking down nervous system regulation, intuitive nourishment, and how to build inner strength without shame or self-abandonment. This episode is your permission slip to stop punishing your body and start listening to it. If you're a mom who's ready to feel good again, this conversation is going to be your full-body exhale.
