How CORTISOL affects Blood Sugar Dr. Beverly Yates ND is an internationally acclaimed diabetes expert who uses the Yates Protocol to help people get control over their blood sugar, reclaim their energy, and enjoy life again. Many people feel hopeless in their struggles to control their blood sugar. In fact, when people who have type 2 diabetes do seek help, all too often they are shamed and blamed by the doctors and health professionals they consult, who make assumptions about them without first seeking to understand what's behind the chronically high blood sugar levels that affect many other areas of health. There is no "shaming and blaming" here. It's been my experience that for most people, there are 2 key lifestyle aspects (other than nutrition and exercise) they don't know about that make a profound difference in blood sugar control. The Yates Protocol was developed over the course of her 20-plus-year clinical career, using the Systems Approach from her prior career as an MIT-trained Electrical Engineer. Dr. Yates wanted to help the growing number of new patients who wanted to get control of their blood sugar, naturally. The Yates Protocol has helped thousands of people around the world to get control of their blood sugar, and I'd like to help you, too. I invite you to take action right now. Catharine started ENERGYbits after her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and advised by her oncologist that an alkaline diet would help her heal. Catharine immediately sprung into action to help her sister research alkaline foods and in the process she discovered algae. When Catharine learned that algae was the most alkaline, plant-based, nutrient-dense food in the world and had been used for fifty years in Asia to improve health and longevity, she knew she had discovered something big (and yes, her sister fully recovered - thanks for asking). As Catharine dug into the science of algae, she learned it had 64% protein, 40 vitamins/minerals and was endorsed by the United Nations and NASA as the most nutrient dense food in the world. She also discovered there were 100,000 studies documenting its long list of benefits and it was the most sustainable, eco-friendly food crop in the world. And yet algae remained virtually unknown outside of Asia. How could this be possible? Catharine knew algae could be a game changer for our health, our children and our world if she could only convince people it wasn't weird. And so ENERGYbits was born. 291: Fashion Do's and Don'ts in Midlife with Wendy from Goodbye Crop Top

Wendy first created Goodbye Crop Top in response to a profound lack of women her age across the media landscape. 49 years old at the time, she noticed it was a rare thing to see women over 40 portrayed in a positive way in print, on television or across social media platforms. Even worse than stereotypical representation, it seemed to her that women over 50—and even women over 40—were largely erased out there and made irrelevant. She feels so great about getting older, that she felt insulted when she didn't see the full dimensions of her experience reflected. She decided to plant her flag as a kind of age-activist. It became her mission to be that which she wanted to see. She is grateful for the privilege of growing older and rejects the narrative that women should stop wearing red lipstick or long hair or mini-skirts or—gasp!—crop tops after some arbitrary birthday determined by a bunch of dudes in a boardroom way back in 1950. Goodbye Crop Top is a place where women of any age——but particularly those with a few crow's feet—can go for camaraderie, validation, information and style. Of course, style is about so much more than the clothes you put on your back: It's about who you are underneath—about what you say, what you do, the company you keep and how you move in the world. Style is a feeling...a feeling of being comfortable in your own skin, of living in alignment with your inner and outer worlds. 284: Avoiding the Emergency Room in Midlife with Dr. Alex Jabourian

One of the worst days in someone's life is the day they end up in the emergency room, life or death. Most of what got them there (even for heart attacks and strokes) can be prevented with lifestyle modifications! Especially if you're middle aged and midlife! Dr. Alex Jabourian is a trained physician in emergency medicine and shares with us how to avoid the ER in midlife! Dr. Alex Jabourian has been practicing medicine since 2014 and his expertise in emergency/critical care and personal athletic endeavors provides a unique skill set well suited to help patients reach their goal of health, longevity, and performance. After completing his emergency medicine residency, he went on to further develop his skills by completing a fellowship in emergency medical services. Things Recommended to Get Tested For Did you know that up to 30% of the U.S. population has metabolic syndrome? Some markers we can test for metabolic derangement/disorder include increased waist circumference, glucose dysregulation, increased triglycerides, and low HDL – including your ability to manage your sugar levels, the amount of cholesterol in circulation – which are a marker for your risk of developing cardiovascular disease (heart attacks, strokes, etc.) To play safe, everyone, especially when you have a history of heart disease in your family. And honestly, the sooner, the better. Optimal vs. Traditional Levels Depending on where you get your labs, ranges can be huge. However, it's scientifically backed that we see a lot more improvement in overall health with a narrow range of labs. If you're working in the ER and just need to be stable, numbers are one thing, while if you're trying to OPTIMIZE yourself, the number is another. Sometimes you might be at the high end of a traditional "normal" or "stable" level, but in reality, that number is way off the charts for what is optimal– especially optimal for reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and best optimizing hormones. Hormones and Lifestyle In mid-life it's so common for women to say things like "I'm so tired" or "I'm fatigued" or "Something is off" – "it must be my hormones!" And it's common for women to say these things even BEFORE they clean up their diet, and start moving their bodies, and actually taking care of themselves. Your lifestyle should be your foundation of success – before any kind of supplementation or pharmacological treatment. Nutrition Sleep Exercise Stress Management Addressing these (barring from some genetic abnormalities) can most often control these markers and you may not need pharmacological treatment. However, for some, doing both simultaneously is the right answer. However, yes, hormones and female physiology DO matter and can play a part. Through our typical 28 day cycle hormones shift, and some of us are in fact more sensitive to that. But even still, it's important that you dial everything else in first (your lifestyle foundation) before you can attribute everything to hormones! If you are pre-menopause, peri-menopause, or post-menopause, it's increasingly more important for you to test your hormones. How Do I Get Tested? Call me crazy, but remember, I lost my dad to a heart attack at a young age and I've got a lot of things that run in the family – so I personally test every 90 days. Hormonal diagnostic labs to check your bio-markers for deficiencies so that you can get in balance and feel like yourself again. A thorough Video call lab session to review/analysis and MOST importantly, provide you with simple tweaks and solutions to improve how you function and feel. This can likely result in a metabolic boost, increased libido, mood, cognitive health, improved skin texture, and more! We provide individual care for maximal results all within the comfort of your home. Marek is a tele-health platform built on streamlining health optimization.
