Today, Joel shares about what makes his mindset and process unique and shares some surprising testing and tracking results with us. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFz6C5i46Ec Quotes: “We actually don't believe that how much you spend is completely tied to your success. At the end of the day, we're just looking for one thing—and that's to make our clients more money.” – Joel Neustaedter “We often find that using real people in hero images works much better than cartoons or images that people can't relate to as easily.” – Joel Neustaedter “Growth is always stressful—learning new things along the way and constantly improving our processes.” – Joel Neustaedter Takeaways: 00:55 A successful agency should focus on understanding client goals beyond simple performance indicators. 09:15 Tailoring marketing approaches based on traffic "temperature" can improve overall campaign effectiveness. 13:28 Two-step landing pages with micro-commitments can significantly improve conversion rates by reducing user resistance. 17:06 Testing different landing page elements - like number of form fields or discount amounts - can yield surprising and counterintuitive results. 20:06 Successful digital marketing isn't just about traffic metrics, but about directly impacting a client's bottom line.
349: Build a Messy Beast of an Online Business That Focuses on Traffic, Lead Capture, and Offers
Let's talk about creating your online funnel (opt-in page, follow-up sequence, sales letter, download page, membership site, blog, traffic, and more) by dumbing things down and keeping them simple... Ugly websites sell better: what matters most is that visitors do what you want them to do on your web page Absorb your competitors (they absorb you back, arms race) Strengthen Your Content Muscle: get ahead of this month in the calendar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OA0EGu0UGyc We also cover one of my best secrets: daily marketing emails... and: Is it possible to email too much? (how to send those emails every day) Why the "exclusion list" balances things out so your buyers aren't "bombarded" How to provide value and use the restaurant mentality Why it's okay to be overloaded (and it's okay to stay in constant contact with your list) Quotes: “Ugly websites sell better, and I think the reason is usually because there are fewer distracting elements like links or fancy graphics. That way, people focus only on what's on your web page.” – Robert Plank “We all get excited about these super advanced, super crazy ideas, but a lot of the time, those are things that either only excite us or maybe only excite our competitors—and don't excite our customers.” – Robert Plank “It's scary to put yourself out there, but what's scarier: being slightly uncomfortable now for the chance that your business will take off and make money, or not having money and not being able to pay your bills?” – Robert Plank Takeaways: 03:50 Creating an ugly, simple website is better than spending months on a perfect design. 13:07 Focus on solving customer problems, not impressing competitors. 27:48 Emailing your list daily keeps subscribers engaged and increases sales potential. 40:09 Entrepreneurs should absorb information selectively and avoid getting distracted by every new idea. 49:31 Build a basic business foundation first, then improve and experiment with new techniques. 348: Self-Install the Correct Mindset to Make Money: Traffic, Lead Capture, and Offers with Lance Tamashiro
Lance Tamashiro from Income Machine returns to the show to talk about the missing pieces in your online business. There are two major categories: first, have the right mindset (the goal is LESS time to make MORE money) and second, avoid email and other distractions. Lance also unpacks how your business should solve a problem, narrow down into a niche. Focus on Traffic, Lead Capture, and Offers. Don't be afraid to ask for help and break out of the mediocrity cycle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGaQSdWtxNk Quotes: “If you're going to make money online, the very first thing you have to change about your online business is your mindset.” – Lance Tamashiro “Time does not equal money online. The only thing that equals money online is that less time equals money.” – Lance Tamashiro “If you're learning something and it doesn't look exactly the same way, don't be afraid to ask.” – Lance Tamashiro Takeaways: 16:15 Time spent doesn't equal money in online business; speed and efficiency matter more than hours worked. 23:40 Break your online business into three core areas: traffic, lead capture, and offers to stay focused and avoid distractions. 29:10 Don't get stuck in a "chicken and egg" cycle where you believe you can't start one thing without another being perfect first. 32:16 When learning a new skill or system, use a template exactly as instructed before making your own modifications. 37:52 Ask clear, specific questions when seeking help to get the most effective guidance and support. Whether you're looking to up your game with real estate, or you have disposable income and are looking to grow your money, Abhi is here to tell you that you can get more creative with real estate. You aren't stuck choosing between flipping or renting. There are many options available to you based on your personality. For example, Abhi recommends real estate wholesaling, where you gather leads (from knocking on doors and stand-up signs) and perform research on viable properties and their sellers (homeowners), then create a contract and sell that information to a buyer (investor). That's just one of the many creative real estate cashflow ideas Abhi has to share with us today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8cA0PeHo9U Quotes: “Don't be told what your investment strategy should be. Understand your investing personality.” – Abhi Golhar “Too many times, I see pros in the space fall out of love with real estate for two reasons: one, they haven't crossed the hump of scaling a business, and two, they've created a job for themselves instead of a real estate business.” – Abhi Golhar “Work on the business, not in the business. Too often, people don't work on the business and get caught working too much in the business.” – Abhi Golhar Takeaways: 04:28 Understand your personal investing personality and choose a real estate strategy that matches your goals, whether it's flipping, rental income, or wholesaling. 07:46 Build a real estate business, not just a job by focusing on systems, technology, and team building instead of getting stuck in daily operational tasks. 10:57 Develop relationships and build trust in local communities to generate consistent real estate investment leads. 17:48 Explore creative deal-finding methods like checking probate records, door-to-door networking, and targeting underdeveloped land for potential high-profit opportunities. 22:12 Diversify real estate investments across different strategies: 40% flipping/developing, 40% cash-flowing assets, and 20% in commercial real estate to protect against market corrections. 346: Get Stuff Done: Create Balance, Develop Productive Habits, and Make the Best Use of Your Time with Yvonne Heimann
Yvonne Heimann from Ask Yvi wants to know: do you want to get more done in a day? Do you want to enjoy your (limited) time more? Do you want to have fun now and balance work and life at the same time? If you'd like to get more organized and stop wasting time, these are the steps Yvonne says you need to follow: Start using her Protopreneur Planner to get your business goals and daily activities clear Use a scheduling program to manage your meetings Use templates for email responses Use questionnaires for client intake Use apps/programs to connect services and automate https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vm1g1TYzA7M Quotes: “Working for retirement, to me, is like not knowing if you'll ever make it. So I want people to have fun now, but we also know we need to make money.” – Yvonne Heimann “When you write things down with a pen, your brain considers it to be true. It's reality to your brain, unlike when you're typing it in.” – Yvonne Heimann “Don't beat yourself up if you didn't go to your workout today, even though it was on your schedule. What's important is getting up every single day and promising yourself you're going to do the best you can that day.” – Yvonne Heimann Takeaways: 03:20 Efficiency and time management are critical for entrepreneurs who want to build successful businesses without sacrificing personal happiness. 19:49 Setting broad goals with flexible quarterly plans is more effective than rigid, detailed annual planning. 26:26 Personal productivity hinges on self-awareness, showing up consistently, and experimenting with different accountability techniques. 32:35 Using the right digital tools can dramatically reduce administrative work and free up time for core business activities. 35:10 Regular financial tracking and budgeting are essential for understanding and improving business financial health. 345: Easy Small Business Systems: Organize, Systematize, Architect the Business You Want, and E-Myth Your Way to a Sellable Business with David Barnett
David C. Barnett from Easy Small Biz Systems returns to the show, and his most recent passion is getting your business into a "sellable" state to make it easier to offload or easier to hold and continue. It's possible using David's "12 plus 1" step program. No matter what your business is or does, it still requires capital, people, and a place. Instead of "winging it" you should describe your ideal life 10 years from now (step one), then sketch what your business looks like to support that lifestyle (step two). Create an org chart and break down tasks, including their roles for the future. Think about those roles that don't exist, ask what's causing the stagnation, assign tasks to a workflow, and explain what negative things might happen if tasks are NOT fulfilled. David's brand new book is Build a Business That People Will Want to Buy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1XegA-1D8Y Quotes: “The business is an asset. It's like a money machine, and you have to treat it as something outside of yourself. You have to look at it objectively.” – David Barnett “When you have a business that hasn't been properly organized—without systems, policies, procedures, workflows, and everything detailed and written down—the only person you can really sell it to is someone else just like you.” – David Barnett “People who have the worst stories about business failure are the ones who didn't know their business was failing until it was too late.” – David Barnett Takeaways: 04:31 Systematizing your business can transform it from a stressful job into a more manageable and potentially more profitable enterprise. 10:46 Many business owners accidentally create a job for themselves instead of building a business that provides freedom and flexibility. 14:19 Without a clear 10-year plan, your business will likely remain stuck in its current state. 21:42 Creating clear job roles with specific purposes helps employees understand their importance and improves overall business efficiency. 26:30 Every business fundamentally consists of capital, people, and a place, making systematization possible across different industries. 344: Explore Your Entrepreneurial Creativity, Mental Blocks and Destiny with Leslie Nolan
Leslie Nolan is an entrepreneur, visionary artist, motivational speaker and founder of Leslie Nolan Design. She works with creative entrepreneurs who have lost their mojo and inspirational vision and helps them reclaim their power so they can find the courage to create their Great Work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beUvtXykCXU Quotes: “Sometimes we're just so busy running around getting things done that we don't take the time to stop and reassess what we're doing.” – Leslie Nolan “A flower is going to shoot out from the ground, and you can't yank that shoot out to make the flower bloom. Some flowers come up in spring, some are evergreen, and some are seasonal with one bloom. Each person is different.” – Leslie Nolan “From the beginning of time, before there were words, we worked in symbols. We used our hands on cave paintings, used fire and coal and other materials to draw. We're very visual people.” – Leslie Nolan Takeaways: 05:15 Setting clear, positive intentions in the present tense is crucial for personal and professional growth. 14:03 Slow down and be present in the moment instead of constantly pushing to reach an end result. 17:36 Symbols in paintings are unique to each person and can hold deep personal meaning. 21:46 Creative problem-solving happens when you stop overthinking and allow your subconscious mind to work. 23:24 Taking a break through creative activities can renew and refresh your perspective on life and work. 343: High Converting Sales Copy Formula: Find Your Sales Hook Through Empathy and Make Money By Following a Simple Copywriting Formula with Alyson Lex
Alyson Lex is a copywriter who specializes in high converting sales letters and in empathizing with prospects to create more effective sales letters. She believes in four levels of research: socially (how prospects relate to friends) relationally (how prospects relate to you, i.e. have they bought or tweeted you) psychologically (what keeps them up at night) demographics (gender, age, location) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBuLDRJnaO4 Research for Alyson consists of checking out industry news articles, social media (especially the comments section) and sites like RipOffReport to get a handle on peoples' problems, frustrations, fears, and beliefs. Then, her five step copywriting process is as follows: get attention (headline, pre-head, sub-head) identify the problem introduce a solution explain how to get it don't let them walk away without it Alyson also talks about common copywriting mistakes, such as using the word "I" within the first three paragraphs of a sales letter. Quotes: “They don't care about you as the copywriter, product creator, or business owner at all. They care about themselves—their fears, their aspirations, and what you can do for them.” – Alyson Lex “I want my clients to be successful. So if they have someone who is more of an expert than I am in something like web design, then it doesn't serve my client for me to hold on just because I think it should be a certain way.” – Alyson Lex “I like to learn principles rather than shiny techniques, because at the base, those principles stay the same. They just adapt to the technology and the trend.” – Alyson Lex Takeaways: 04:08 Effective copywriting starts with deep research into your target audience's psychological, social, and relational experiences. 11:20 The language you use in sales copy should mirror exactly how your customers speak, not industry jargon or technical terms. 24:02 Sales copy principles remain constant, even as design trends and graphic styles change over time. 29:05 The first few paragraphs of any sales letter should focus entirely on the customer's problems, not on the writer's experiences. 34:23 Entrepreneurs can overcome writer's block by following a structured copywriting formula and conducting thorough audience research. We talk about how to get excited, how to deal with any personal issue you have (step 1: vocalize it, step 2: get perspective, step 3: listen to advice). Don't keep a to-do list, use an online calendar, get a coach, complete some daily actions, move closer to the goal, and remember: somehow you've made it through your difficulties up till now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q51emEI7HvA Quotes: “If everything is a top priority for your business, then nothing is a priority. Not everything can be the top priority. There has to be one or three things that are the top priority for that day.” – Lance Tamashiro “Your business is either growing or dying. It's never staying the same.” – Lance Tamashiro “Don't beat yourself up because you're not where you think you need to be or not making the progress you think you should be making.” – Lance Tamashiro Takeaways: 06:56 Breaking big projects into smaller 45-minute focused tasks helps prevent burnout and increases overall productivity. 12:47 Eliminate your to-do list and focus only on the three most important tasks for the day. 17:05 Build systems by consistently working on tasks and making small improvements over time. 32:33 Wake up early and use your most productive morning hours to complete critical work. 39:10 Vocalize your anxieties to trusted people to gain perspective and reduce mental burden. 341: Innovation and Growth Hacking: Tailor Your Marketing Message to Your Audience Using Facebook Messenger Chatbots with Nick Kullin
Tune in right now to hear from early-stage growth hacker Nick Kullin, from Second Flight Consultancy. Nick believes that most people are too close to their product (or service), and that you need to identify what makes your audience tick. Instead of being one of those marketers 2-3 years behind who merely jumps on the bandwagon, be an innovator and see how communications are evolving. That means instead of boring email marketing, focus on Facebook ads, social media content, and Facebook Messenger chatbots. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtlhSvdRnW4 Quotes: “When no one's being innovative and everyone's doing the same thing, things become more expensive. Results become stagnant, and then people start trying to figure out why it's not working for them.” – Nick Kullin “There's so much information out there, and the majority of people, when they look at content, don't look to learn something. They look to learn how to get out of something more.” – Nick Kullin “The more relatable and humanistic we can make the digital world, the more receptive and trusting people will be, because they feel like they understand it.” – Nick Kullin Takeaways: 02:47 Marketing success comes from understanding what truly keeps your customers up at night, not just pushing product features. 12:15 Facebook Messenger chatbots offer dramatically higher engagement rates compared to traditional email marketing. 19:22 Personalized marketing means talking differently to different customer roles, not creating entirely separate campaigns. 23:50 Most marketers are lazy, shooting without aiming and then trying to fix mistakes through split testing. 26:02 Small customer interactions and micro-commitments can guide potential buyers further through your sales funnel. Kay Sanders from KaySanders.com is a business coach who can transform your business and life to get more clients and more sales. Kay helps her clients setup that foundation: niche down, find your target market, and establish that online presence. She also helps people become more productive and overcome obstacles through mindset techniques such as EFT. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgHNPIfITrE Quotes: “No matter how good your system of strategies is, if your mindset or vibration isn't right, if you have negative energy around you, you're not going to be able to attract any clients.” – Kay Sanders “The universe is unlimited. You have unlimited opportunities and abilities. You can make as much as you want—but we put limitations on ourselves.” – Kay Sanders “If you don't have the calls, if you don't have those conversations, no one is going to know that you exist, what you do, or who you are.” – Kay Sanders Takeaways: 04:40 Building a successful business requires creating repeatable systems and strategies that can be tested and improved over time. 11:14 Overcoming fear of client interactions starts with believing in your own abilities and focusing on serving others, not just making a sale. 15:37 Personal growth and mindset work are critical for entrepreneurs to break through self-imposed limitations and expand their business potential. 20:42 Using tools like EFT can help release negative energy and shift internal beliefs that block professional and personal success. 24:31 Pre-qualifying potential clients through detailed questionnaires helps filter serious prospects and saves time for business owners.

And podcasts are one of these growing things—they're only going to get more popular.” – Robert Plank “I think what's more important is quantity instead of quality, because the quality will sort itself out. 336: Relationship Building, Social Media Marketing, and High Ticket Coaching with America’s Leading LinkedIn Coach Ted Prodromou
Ted Prodromou, The Social Media Guy, knows why you aren't getting business from LinkedIn. Many people use LinkedIn (and social media) as a spamming tool, and you should instead spend a few minutes a day to build relationships. Treat your job title as a headline, view the profiles of people you want to connect with, and connect with a few people a day. Ted walks those prospects up the ladder by asking people something fun about their business, then tells them about his business and websites. He adds those people to Facebook audiences, retargets them with a Facebook pixel, and sends them through three surveys before getting them on a discovery call. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgXaRXivwnE Quotes: “If you treat people like we're talking face to face right now, and treat each conversation on LinkedIn like we're having this one here, it works like magic.” – Ted Prodromou “Your profile is the key to success. Sixty percent of traffic is mobile now, so the first thing they see is your picture. The key is to push it out through email and social media, and to make sure you're engaging with people on social media.” – Lyndsay Phillips “Social media and content marketing are a long game. 329: E-Commerce Traffic and Conversion Using Heatmaps and User Testing with Jon MacDonald
Jon MacDonald is President and Founder of The Good, a conversion agency that believes in removing bad online experiences so that only "the good" remains. Jon and his agency prefers to work with e-commerce websites with at least 15,000 visitors per month. Their job is to remove barriers that web browsers experience. They come to a website with a specific paid or need, and they need to find the solution they're looking for in order to convert. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNofLls-YkM He installs simple tools (on any platform) to track cursor movements, clicks and scrolls to see where users navigate and uncover sales leaks. He combines that information with real live user testing to back it up, and then runs multivariate tests to improve conversions. Quotes: “Conversion rate optimization isn't about doing one thing to your site that will double your conversions overnight. You have to think of it like interest in a savings account—it compounds over time and continues to grow.” – Jon MacDonald “Marketing is really just to get people to the website. Once they're there, the marketing has done its job. Now it's about serving the needs of the consumer once they're on your website.” – Jon MacDonald “Usually, when price is a challenge, it means value is a challenge—it's not being articulated correctly.” – Jon MacDonald Takeaways: 05:34 Marketing teams often create cluttered websites that fail to serve customer needs effectively. 09:30 Data-driven testing through heat maps and user testing can reveal hidden barriers to conversion. 16:11 Emphasizing product value is more powerful than offering discounts to increase sales. 22:46 Conversion optimization is an ongoing process that requires consistent small improvements over time. 25:34 Websites should function as sales tools, not just marketing platforms. 318: Add Storytelling to Your Marketing for Amazing Results in Any Startup Pitch Meeting, Stage Presentation, or Job Interview with The Pitch Whisperer John Livesay
John Livesay is The Pitch Whisperer which means you should use micro-stories in your presentations, at job interviews, or perhaps at a pitch meeting where you're seeking funding. Every good story contains exposition (who, what, where, why), a problem, solution, and resolution. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3zCZa5bUEI You can discover your own stories by thinking about your family or vacations you've traveled to. Then fit that interesting material into a narrative. For example, Johnny Walker uses a rags to riches story in its marketing and Prudential uses a rebirth story. Think about your origin story of tenacity and perseverance, what inspired you, and then test that material on others to get feedback. When you're speaking and pitching, people are asking themselves: do I trust you and do you make eye contact? (gut), do I like you and do you display empathy towards me? (heart), and will this work for me? (head) You can also build your confidence by being prepared: know your opening, closing, and takeaways to bring to that presentation. Quotes: “Storytellers rule the world. Forget selling—tell stories instead. Then you'll pull people in, get hired, gain new clients, or secure funding.” – John Livesay “A good story has four elements: exposition (who, what, where, when), a problem, a solution, and a resolution.” – John Livesay “People buy emotionally and then back it up with logic. If all you're doing is talking numbers, you're going to bore people.” – John Livesay Takeaways: 05:28 A good story has four key elements: exposition, problem, solution, and resolution. 11:02 Everyone has interesting stories to share, often found in family histories or personal experiences. 15:01 Practice and preparation are critical for building confidence in high-stakes presentations. 19:47 When pitching, focus on building trust through eye contact, showing empathy, and demonstrating how your solution works. 21:24 People make emotional decisions first and then justify them with logic. As a result, they've spent most of their time recording an album but very little time marketing, and as a result, their business somewhat half-baked. Bree explains that musicians need to setup a real web presence, especially a homebase. That doesn't only mean posting on Facebook... it also means creating a modern looking blog with a .com domain name and landing pages. It means building an email list with a squeeze page, running Facebook ads, recording behind the scenes videos, posting on Twitter and Instagram, possibly using crowdfunding, and using Facebook Live to build that following. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzP7oOkR-TY Quotes: “They've got all these ideas coming into their head all the time—new songs, ways you can market, shows you can do. Those are cool. Those are great. I don't want to stop you from having those. But if they don't have anything to do with your 90-day goals, I want you to write them down, put them in what I call an inspiration vault, and save them for later.” – Bree Noble “The CD does not create fans. Your fan base is your vehicle to sell CDs, do live shows, and actually make money—not the actual recording of the CD.” – Bree Noble “They don't realize that if they don't work on the marketing side, they're eventually going to run out of money and won't be able to keep doing the thing they love.” – Bree Noble Takeaways: 02:22 Musicians must treat their music career like a business, not just a creative pursuit. 12:09 Focus on one big goal for 90 days and create a clear plan to achieve it. 33:06 Spend 80% of your time marketing and 20% creating content to build a successful music career. 07:14 Build a fan base before expecting industry professionals to discover and support you. 17:54 Create a strong online home base with a well-branded website that represents your music and allows fans to connect. The best way to do that is for you to invest in it.” – Erin Chase “I've always been a bit obsessed with efficiency—more so than productivity. I’d call myself a pretty productive person, but I want things to be efficient, both in my own work and within our team.” – Erin Chase Takeaways: 06:36 Efficiency and productivity are critical skills that can be developed and applied across personal and professional life. 14:58 Creating a list of 20 family-favorite meals helps break routine cooking patterns and expands meal variety. 21:46 Small morning decisions and organizational habits can prevent a cascade of stress and poor choices throughout the day. 25:08 Developing software or tools should focus on intuitive design that allows users to navigate without extensive instructions. 28:49 Many entrepreneurs struggle with implementing plans and evaluating project progress, which hinders business growth. 314: Day Job to Dream Job: Have a Plan B, Become Your Own Boss, and Enjoy What You Do While Making Money with Kathy Brunner
Kathy Brunner says that you must have a Plan B where you hope for the best but plan for the worst. She's an expert in helping people either change career paths or retire and become full-time entrepreneutrs. 70% of her clients end up starting a business and 30% simply need a career change. Many times, her clients initially come to her feeling burned out, a disconnect, or no way to control her work day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEk31L0F8BA Her solution is to ask a series of thought-provoking questions, such as: What decisions in the past have you regretted? (very few, so take the risk that improves your life) What decisions have you made based on the opinions or suggestions of others? (most likely ones that you're unhappy with today) What decisions are you glad you made? (usually, those that involved taking a leap of faith) If you're ready to break the cycle of being too comfortable, then listen in to what Kathy has to say. Quotes: “Sometimes people need to leave a job because, even if they've had expert training in it, done it for many years, and done it well, they just don't have a passion for it anymore.” – Kathy Brunner “The number one thing that holds many people back is what their mind tells them they can't do.” – Kathy Brunner “For many people, what someone else has already planned for them is what they've settled on for themselves.” – Kathy Brunner Takeaways: 01:37 Always have a Plan B, as job security is never guaranteed. 07:57 Passion and skills can be transformed into successful business opportunities. 10:55 Burnout often stems from feeling underappreciated and lacking control in your work environment. 18:46 Your mindset is the biggest barrier to making significant career changes. 23:46 Identify past decisions driven by others' opinions to break free from limiting beliefs.

You have to constantly be willing for people to say no to you. And every once in a while, it's going to work—and when it does, it makes up for all the no's and all the failures, and more.” – Josh Bauerle “You need to have those numbers. You should be able to go at any point in the year and say, ‘Okay, year to date, I've made this much, I've spent this much. Simplify it, break it down, and give them one simple thing.” – Nagina Abdullah “People actually listen when they're paying money for something. 311: Disruptive Advertising: Boost Organic Search Engine Rankings, Master Pay-Per-Click Ads and Optimize Your Site with Chris Dayley
Chris Dayley from Disruptive Advertising is an expert when it comes to search engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, and conversion optimization. Many SEO agencies are short sighted and simply look for a "trick" to provide their clients, such as ranking them in Google. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiON22IAQiw However, Chris and his agency like to make data-driven decisions. A "great" looking website is an essential ingredient, but they also run A/B tests, think about what the customer is expecting to see on the page, improve load time, and use the data from heatmapping software (HotJar) to change navigation. Additionally, Chris says that every website needs to have: a value proposition (identified by the audience), a call-to-action (that they can identify in 2-3 steps), content (watch how much they're consuming), clarity/conciseness/readability, removal of all diversions/distractions (such as banner ads), and handling any anxiety people have when visiting that website. Quotes: “The hardest part for a lot of businesses is, number one, actually doing it, and then number two, it can kind of be a blow to the ego.” – Chris Dayley “When there are a lot of offers, people can get really overwhelmed, and it's much less likely that they will click on the one thing they want.” – Chris Dayley “The hardest part for a lot of businesses is, number one, actually doing it, and number two, it can be a blow to the ego.” – Chris Dayley Takeaways: 03:21 Traffic without conversion is pointless for business growth. 12:56 Always test website elements scientifically before making major changes. 17:30 Small website changes can dramatically improve sales performance. 20:27 User behavior data matters more than personal website design preferences. 28:40 Mobile websites should be customized, not just made responsive. 310: Become an Online Superhero by Creating a Socially-Focused Business with Leon Jay
Leon Jay is the author of How To Become A Superhero: Build A Better Business And Help Save The World" and his website is SocialPreneur.tv. He quickly realized the money isn't everything, and that it's all about the 4 R's: reduce, reuse, recycle, and restore. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nayRfp2Tdis In our discussion today, Leon shares how you can not only find that higher purpose that's greater than money, it can actually make you more money and give your business that "differentiator" to stand out in the marketplace. Your Purpose leads to your Passion, which leads to the right People, and you discover the Place you need to be, which leads to Profit. Quotes: “In every problem lies an opportunity within its solution. So if you look around and see all the problems in the world, we're surrounded by opportunities in finding solutions for those problems.” – Leon Jay “If each of us tries to focus on solving one specific problem, then with seven-plus billion people on the planet, we would eventually make some serious impact.” – Leon Jay “All the best heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary.” – Leon Jay Takeaways: 03:37 Every business problem contains an opportunity for creating a meaningful solution that can positively impact the world. 10:13 Successful businesses can differentiate themselves by matching product quality while adding a social or environmental mission. 17:33 Entrepreneurs should prioritize purpose over profit, starting with understanding what truly matters to them. 31:21 Fear often blocks people from pursuing their true purpose, but taking the first step is crucial to making a difference. 25:24 Businesses currently contribute to global problems, and conscious entrepreneurs must work to reduce their negative impact. 309: Fail Less and Grow More: Focus on Your Marketing, Discover Your Buyer’s Journey, and Use Both Tactics and Strategies with Growth Partner Chris Deardorff
Chris Deadorff from The Market Compass (contact him at [email protected]) is a marketing professional from Boulder, Colorado. His business model is to become a "growth partner" with startups who need a more strategic approach. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xjugaWMulo Chris noticed that many startups are focused too much on tactics (i.e. a case study or video) and are missing the strategy side. Startups need to know their objectives, find their target audience, and understand the buyer's journey. They can start that process with a simple 2-page marketing plan. Quotes: “Marketing is about truly growing your business by telling a compelling story about why your product or service will make your customers' lives better.” – Chris Deardorff “I can't emphasize enough the importance of being strategic about marketing. It doesn't have to take a lot of time, but it will save you a ton of time and money, and make your marketing more effective.” – Chris Deardorff “If you want to have good marketing, you have to provide some sort of incentive. To really get their attention and to get them to engage, you have to provide some sort of incentive.” – Chris Deardorff Takeaways: 00:30 Startups need to view marketing as a growth engine, not just advertising. 02:59 Strategic marketing matters more than random tactics for startup success. 07:13 Create a simple two-page marketing plan that outlines clear objectives and quarterly goals. 18:23 Pay for quality market research to truly understand your customer base. 23:43 Build marketing systems that can run with minimal manual intervention.
308: How to Quit Your 9-5, Motivate Yourself, Experience the Entrepreneur Lifestyle, and Take Action with Ryan Grant
Ryan Grant from the Online Selling Experiment decided that working for someone else (as an accountant) simply wasn't for him. In order to make "the jump" from a corpoate 9-5 to becoming a full-time entrepreneur, Ryan decided he needed to have the following in place: $500-$1000 per month income from 10 hours per week (which he could 4X if he had to in an emergency) A cushion of money (savings) A stream of real estate income (Ryan occupied one end of a duplex, rented out the other end, and found a roommate to share his unit as well) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jC8jj6QW-fY Since going full time, Ryan has built and scaled a business (with employees) with Amazon FBA. He started with retail arbitrage, then expanded to wholesaling and private labeling. Listen to what he has to say about system thinking, self motivation and avoiding bright shiny objects. Quotes: “Ideas are only worth something once they're executed, and you won't really know what you're capable of or what's possible until you try.” – Ryan Grant “The only person to keep you motivated and to keep you going is yourself.” – Ryan Grant “Most people tend to bite off more than they can chew. I've taken that approach and found that it doesn't actually lead to results in very many places. It leads to doing a bunch of things at a fairly low level.” – Ryan Grant Takeaways: 04:03 Start planning your business exit strategy while still working your day job to ensure a smooth transition. 16:51 Proactively manage potential isolation in entrepreneurship by intentionally creating social interactions and networking opportunities. 18:28 Systematize one business method completely before adding new income streams to prevent spreading yourself too thin. 22:45 Avoid chasing multiple shiny objects simultaneously, which leads to doing many things poorly instead of excelling in one area. 25:36 Take small, concrete actions to test a business idea, like scanning product barcodes with a free app and investing $50-$100 in initial inventory.
307: Elevate Your Brand, Create Evergreen Podcasts, and Build an Audience with Podfest Founder and Tampa Event Planner Chris Krimitsos
Chris Krimitsos has run over 1700 live events in the Tampa, Florida area, created the Florida Podcaster's Association, and most importantly, runs the PodFest conference for podcasters in Orlando every year. He explains to us how he built a following for his live events and how to get your branding right (start with problems and people instead of keywords). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRVG-yGkB_s He also has a very concept called evergreen podcasts: look at the 5-10 frequently asked questions (FAQs) on your sites and create a podcast episode answering each of those questions in order to have a podcast that promotes your offers forever. Quotes: “Audio strategically placed well within the podcast medium makes it searchable online content that people might stumble upon.” – Chris Krimitsos “Keep your feet on the ground and your eyes on the stars. Take action and prioritize what truly needs to be done.” – Chris Krimitsos “If you have a business and want people to truly understand what you do, replace the FAQs on your website with a five- or ten-episode evergreen podcast.” – Chris Krimitsos Takeaways: 05:02 Networking and personal connections can be more effective than broad marketing strategies. 13:37 Most podcasters are introverts who prefer speaking into a mic without seeing their audience. 18:29 Build your brand by understanding what unique experience or information you can provide to your target audience. 22:06 Create podcast content that addresses specific audience pain points and provides clear value. 27:53 Marketing your content is just as important, if not more important, than creating the content itself. 306: Success, Positioning, Aspiration, Inspiration, and Perspiration: Start a Movement with Giving Back Podcast Host Rob Lowe
Rob Lowe has interviewed over 100 social entrepreneurs in the Giving Back Podcast to bring attention to the charity-based movements created around the world. He shares how he built his podcast, as well as the common threads he's discovered while interviewing these experts who are giving back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySIvr_Zvu6k Quotes: “Passion is crucial. Things will get tough—really tough. The one thing that will carry you through hard times is your passion.” – Rob Lowe “For the most part, or sometimes entirely, these organizations are made up of volunteers. A key aspect is engaging them and presenting opportunities.” – Rob Lowe “I'm not really smart enough or wise enough to be a coach or a mentor, but what I do bring is that I am a very good accelerator.” – Rob Lowe Takeaways: 03:14 Finding and highlighting unsung heroes who are making a difference can inspire broader community involvement and create meaningful social impact. 08:00 Inspiring others through personal action can create a ripple effect of community engagement and positive change. 17:19 Success in social impact follows similar patterns to business success, requiring passion, focus, and perseverance. 21:47 Organizations thrive when they genuinely listen to volunteers and match their skills with meaningful opportunities. 26:58 Building a successful movement requires connecting people, resources, and helping them accelerate their goals. 305: Boost Your Confidence, Get More Opportunities, and Discover Deals with Negotiation Consultant Kwame Christian
Negotiation consultant Kwame Christian from the American Negotiation Institute wants to give you the confidence (competence breeds competence) to get what you want in your business relationships with others. Go into negotiations with information beforehand, ask open-ended questions, then adjust (be flexible). Use curiosity to find the right deal, and discover if a deal exists. Spend 70% of your time listening and 30% of your time speaking. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_hFxSu9gfc Quotes: “Negotiation isn't the art of deal-making; it's the art of discovering deals.” – Kwame Christian “Competence breeds confidence. Success or failure in negotiations isn't determined by your ability to think quickly and deliver witty retorts; it's rooted in thorough preparation beforehand.” – Kwame Christian “Every negotiation begins with an ask. We need to articulate our needs, and that's where most people stumble.” – Kwame Christian Takeaways: 01:49 Negotiation is about discovering deals, not forcing predetermined outcomes. 09:33 Research your counterpart thoroughly, like you're preparing for a first date. 14:59 Practice "rejection therapy" to build confidence and overcome fear of asking. 17:50 Create high-value service packages with multiple elements to expand client budgets. 21:49 Ask open-ended questions and listen 70% of the time during negotiations. 304: Don’t Be Forgotten or Passed Over Online, Create a Membership Site Instead
Do you fear being "forgotten" online? What if you put in all this time, money, and energy, and it doesn't lead to making money? What if, 1.5 years from now, you look back and realize that all the work you've done building an internet presence, putting in the work day-in and day-out, pursuing your dream, all amounted to nothing? (scary) I'll be completely honest. You SHOULD be afraid of time running out, and going out of business, but (possibly) not for the reason you think... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mfdGfZp8kg Worried About Online Competition? You SHOULD Be! YouTube users watch over 1 billion hours of video content per day, and according to the Wall Street Journal, that's set to eclipse TV viewership in 2017. Over 6,000 books are published PER DAY according to UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), (1200 in China and 800 from the U.S. alone -- every single day) As of late 2016, 60 million business are actively marketing on Facebook (4 million of them using paid ads) Are You Worried About Giving Up, Burning Out, or Quitting? According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, there are 28.8 million small businesses in the United States, and only one-third survive ten years. 82% of businesses fail because of cashflow problems, either not being cashflow-positive or from mis-management. The U.S. Census Bureau reports that: 400,000 new businesses appear every year, but in that same year, 470,000 close up shop! The good news is: being a lean startup or "one person business" is easier that ever. According to a study performed just a few years ago, 8.6% of the U.S. workforce consists of solopreneurs and is expected to grow to 24 million people by 2018. Compare that to a McDonald's franchise that costs $750,000 in LIQUID assets to start-up, in addition to about $1 million in startup costs and now you're forced to pay up to 12% in gross sales back to that corporate office... no thank you. And, I'm sure you've experienced those moments of doubt, uncertainty, and panic about what you're doing with this "Internet" stuff. Are You Worried That Your Internet Business Will Eventually Fail, Leaving You With Nothing To Show But A Lot Of Wasted Effort? I'm sure that you have way more ideas in your head than you have time to implement in just 24 hours every day Chances are, you've started more projects, websites, and membership sites, than you've finished I imagine that, like me, you've seen one or two sites out there and been JEALOUS that they beat you to the market -- and -- probably set something up better than you had imagined It is my hope that you've skipped right past the low-baller stuff like affiliate marketing, CPA, solo ads and banner ads and instead looked to the low-hanging fruit of making money online: membership sites Now, have you thought about this? What If, Without A Guide, You Sort Of "Fudge It" And Crank Away From Membership Content? Again, without anyone to guide you, what if you created a "sales letter" and added some stuff to get people to buy? What if you only "guessed" about price points, where to get traffic, how to setup drip content, weren't sure about membership software or where to host your site, your design (website theme)? Doesn't that seem like only 1 possible way to go right and about 200 ways to go wrong? (In the same way you might embark on a cross-country road trip with GPS vs. no map and no direction... how likely is it, with random trial-and-error, that you'll arrive at your destination?) Can I Make It Simple For You? First, decide who you are and what you do. What solutions you have to offer. How can you help "me" to get what I want? (With stock trading, real estate, WordPress, etc.)? Seriously, don't skip this. What will I HAVE at the end of your course and your training? For example, if you teach me how to sell on eBay, I shouldn't end your course with "some ideas" on how to ...
