Local, Local, Local
The publisher of the Oshkosh Herald joins the show! Karen Schneider started the paper about 7 years ago and tells us that while it has been a slow growth, she understood the need for local news coverage, which helped spawn this hyper-local paper. It was great to hear how she "got here", but we're even happier she is "here"! Then we talk pizza and mac! The mix of the two is in the name of this great local restaurant. Zaroni's! Owner Rob Wilcox and managers Dee and Jared joined to talk about the business and also about giving back to the community. The food is great; the mission is even greater! Ironically, we have more football on the show's menu! We start with Spencer Larson, Stadium Services Manager with the Green Bay Packers. One of his main gigs is running the Packers Hall of Fame. Spencer talks about the wide range of individuals who visit Lambeau and the Hall of Fame. His story starts in Appleton, being a batboy with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, working in Madison, Eau Claire and then to Minnesota with the Minnesota Wild. He found the gig with the Packers and seems to be "all smiles" about it! It's definitely a great story! Then, Northeast Wisconsin's own Tanor Bortolini joins via the phone. From Kewaunee, and having played for the Badgers, he's just finished his first season in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts. It's great hearing how excited he still is with playing professional ball and playing with team members he's watched play for a number of years. He says he was pretty amazed to play against Aaron Rodgers this season. Weekly Best of Maino and the Mayor for Feb 1
The guys are joined by Kate Stapleton, harpist, dancer, theatre and film producer, and writer, to talk about her film "The Inner Sea." Kate shares what the film is about, the inspiration behind it, and where to see it! In a nutshell, the movie has a foundation here in Wisconsin. While she grew up in the western part of the state, some of the inspiration for the film is based on her time in Sheboygan and her experience of looking out over vast Lake Michigan. We're really excited about it being shown at the Door County Film Festival. Then in our Veterans Salute from Olson Legal Group, we speak with Vietnam Marine Veteran Rich Karki. One of the stories Rich shares is that he chose The Marines because he didn't want to be on a boat. Then he found out that the Marines are on boats. He also shares the story of walking and feeling like someone tugged on his uniform. By the time he looked back to see what it was, he was already flying in the air. He walked into a booby trap. Rich says he still thinks and has nightmares about his time in Vietnam, including the time another soldier died in his arms. We're so thankful for the service Rich and other veterans have given to our country. The Veterans Salute on Maino and the Mayor is brought to you by Nate Olson at Olson Legal Group. A veteran-owned business in Oshkosh and Berlin, specializing in estate planning, real estate, and all business matters. Visit them HERE.

Kate shares what the film is about, the inspiration behind it, and where to see it! In a nutshell, the movie has a foundation here in Wisconsin. Trucker Thursday
It's a Trucker Thursday and that means the weekend is relatively close! Celebrity birthdays include Christian Bale, Gene Hackman and Phil Collins. While Jim and his wife Dona love Phil, Maino is not a fan. He feels like his music is "too soft". Do you have thoughts on that? Heights Pub & Parlor Celebration
Another great hour from Heights Pub & Parlor! We have some real stars on the show this morning when Lisa Malak from Local 5 LIVE and Frank Hermans from Let Me Be Frank Productions join the guys for mimosas and bloodys! Local 5 LIVE is one of our favorite local shows because, like Maino & The Mayor, are hyper-focused on talent, businesses, and sports in our community! And Frank, of course, is just part of the music and theatrical world in Northeast Wisconsin. Both of these folks are part of the fabric of our community. We're also happy to welcome a member of the Heights staff, Cassie Schiltz. Not only does she work at the Heights during her summer months, but she's also a member of the UWGB Women's Basketball team. She is a smart, young individual that Jim wants to make sure stays in Green Bay once she graduates! Manufacturing & The Mulva Center
Our partners with the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce helped connect us with Ann Franz, Executive Director of N.E.W. Manufacturing Alliance. Ann comes armed with details on their recent Economic Vitality Study. In basic terms, the study shows us the strength of manufacturing in Northeast Wisconsin and the recruitment need for this industry. She also worked in the U.P., so obviously, she and Maino can connect on that! Then Katy Compton with the Mulva Cultural Center swings by to promote a new exhibit called "Unofficial Galaxies", one of the largest private single collections of Star Wars memorabilia in the world! Then Bryan with Heights Pub & Parlor joins to celebrate their 1 Year Anniversary. Tuesday Meanderings
In April, Bob Dylan is coming to Northeast Wisconsin with a show at the Weidner Center in Green Bay. The guys discuss ticket prices, and that spurs conversation about shows that you missed that you kick yourself for missing. Johnny Cash, Elton John, Paul McCartney, George Carlin, Tom Petty, and the Eagles are shared by our listeners. Jim announces he's lost quite a bit of weight. We're so proud of him, but we find out he's taking Ozempic. Nothing wrong with that, and we're happy he came clean. Jim says he's taking a cruise, and that sparks conversations about cruises and vacations, in general. Radio & Reading
An old friend of Maino joins the show to talk a bit about her broadcast history. Jo-Jo Shutty-MacGregor talks about being the first female traffic reporter in Metro Detroit back in the day. She tells the story of the station she worked at that was just over the border in Canada, CKLW. Her stories of being at a powerhouse radio station back in the day were extremely interesting. We actually received requests to have her back on the show, and Todd thinks she should fill in one morning when the guys are off! We found a great website that offers some great background on Jo-Jo. The excitement on the show continues when we welcome Colleen Rortvedt with the Appleton Public Library to the show. After a very large construction project, the library is about to reopen with expanded space and programs. They have the grand opening planned for Saturday, February 15th. Maino is excited to use the new card catalog. Blue Ribbons & Green & Gold
We have several weeks until Spring and Spring Training, but Bill Morgan with the Green Bay Blue Ribbons baseball joins the show to discuss the new year and new season. The Blue Ribbons are a semi-pro baseball team participating in both the Wisconsin State League and the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. Made up predominately of college-age players, the Blue Ribbons play their home games at historic Joannes Stadium on Green Bay’s east side. Bill also shares some history of the team and also Joannes stadium. Then the director of the "Green and Gold Movie," Anders Lindwall, calls in to discuss the movie. Anders says that the movie is his heartfelt tribute to rural America's strength and perseverance. The movie stars Craig T. Nelson, and at its core, the movie is a tribute to the unsung heroes who shape communities and preserve traditions through kindness and hard work. Sports Medicine & Bacon
Mark Husen from Bellin Sports Medicine is in the studio today to discuss ice safety. Whether you're enjoying winter sports or you're just walking down the street, ice safety is so important this time of year. He also just returned from a conference and wanted to put a plug out for local school boards and the amount of work and commitment the members give to the local communities. Mark also offers tips for getting in shape this time of year. Stretching and hydration are his top tips. Then we're joined by Aaron Ludwig. He's created a podcast called "Dads with Bacon TV". While they may talk about bacon, the word bacon is used in the name because it's Aaron's nickname. Think a bunch of dads sitting around talking about sports, gaming, grilling, family...all topics that are discussed on the podcast. Oh, Canada & Headlines with The Press Times
John Craemer & Kevin Osgood stick around from the USC Auxiliary. They'll be set up at the All Canada Show at the Oneida Radisson Conference Center. The show focuses on general fishing, and John and Kevin will talk about boating safety in Northeast Wisconsin. Anyone can help and volunteer with the Auxillary HERE. Then, it's our weekly visit with Kris Leonardt at the Green Bay Press Times. In our "Headlines With The Press Times" segment, we meet Kerry Yang, who works in the Mayor's office with Green Bay city events. While her "day job" is interesting, she's featured in this week's edition of the paper and we learn about H.A.N.D.S. (Hmong Autism Neurodiverse Disability Support). We learn that the Hmong community, in general, doesn't talk about issues and concerns in life, so this non-profit strives to spread awareness about Autism, disabilities, and other special needs by providing a supportive space for Hmong and Wisconsin families who need extra help through education, group support, and grants. Guests: Kris Leonhardt, Kerry Yang
