Evergreen Theater & Area 509

John Craemer & Janelle Fisher from the Green Bay Press Times are in with their weekly feature: Headlines with the Press Times! John is a multi-media journalist with the local paper, and Janelle covers everything entertainment! This week, they bring in Mike Ajango with Evergreen Theater. Mike shares a number of performances they have coming up over the next few months, and also talks briefly about a great summer program for kids that Evergreen puts on. Discussion of all the great music, theater, and arts in the area reminds us how lucky we are to have many great performance venues, large and small, in Northeast Wisconsin. Then a friend of the show, Reggie Desamour, owner of Area 509 in Appleton, joins to talk about his new food truck, "Busted Spud," and some of the events they have planned this summer. Reggie has an interesting backstory! His passion for cooking started at a young age when he would be in the kitchen with his mother in Haiti. The youngest of three sons, he helped with a variety of chores, but cooking was his favorite. His passion was there! Early in 2019, Reggie decided to turn a hobby into a business and began the process of building his own food trailer. He wanted his food trailer to feature his authentic Caribbean food while allowing him to travel to different communities and connect with people. Roxanne even made us some rum cakes for his visit! The Fringe & Brews

Matt Worzala with the Green Bay Fringe Fest makes a stop to give us an early update on the event, which is coming up July 17th through the 20th. The festival describes itself this way: "The Green Bay Fringe Festival is a confluence of diverse and vibrant artists and audiences. Our mission is to create a radical platform that celebrates art on the periphery and fosters collaboration, dialogue, and innovation between performers and audiences alike. Through an eclectic mix of performances, exhibitions, and educational programs, we aim to make the arts accessible, inclusive, and equitable for all. We strive not just to entertain but to provoke thought, inspire change, and weave the ethos of 'fringe' into the cultural tapestry of our community." We all know that it's a great artistic event in our community, and we love it. Then Brad Stillmank from Stillmank Brewing Company slides in with our Maino & The Mayor Top Craft Pick promotion. Brad and his wife Erin started Stillmank in 2011. Leaning on the popularity of their first creation, Wisco Disco, they purchased the former Builders Supply warehouse on Green Bay's East side. Dipping into hard seltzers and spirits, they continue to try to innovate on new ideas and products. We're happy they're a part of our Top Craft Pick Promotion. Veterans Salute

The hour begins with veteran Chuck Wellens. Chuck has been a guest on the show before, and he joins us to help kick off a new feature we're featuring on our website called "Remembering Vietnam". Like many of the men and women who served, Chuck didn't want to talk much about his experience until many years later. We're all better because he's decided to share his story with all of us. "Remembering Vietnam" is sponsored by THE Dispensary. Our "Veterans Salute" is brought to you by Olson Legal Group, LLC in Berlin and Oshkosh. Then some great friends from Marinette make the drive in. Mayor Steve Genisot and the Director of Marketing and Tourism, Shawn Katzbeck, gave an update on what's going on in the city. From housing and jobs to education and entertainment, Marinette really is a great community to visit and also live. Another Week Begins

We start the morning chatting about Saturday night's Duke loss. We're heartbroken for Kon Knueppel and the rest of the Duke team. We all felt like family after chatting with his mom and dad last week on the show. Then Civic Media meteorologist Brittney Merlot joins the guys to give us a glimpse of the forecast for the week ahead. Jim and John put her on the spot for an extended forecast for the upcoming draft. While we're still a bit too far out to know for sure, she does expect some warmer temperatures, but a possible storm system could move through at some time that week. She told us to stay tuned for more details next week. Weekly Best of Maino and the Mayor for Apr 5

Delorean Walls is back in the studio to discuss food insecurities in Northeast Wisconsin. Did you know that approximately one in three people in our communities is considered food insecure? Working with Feeding America, Delorean is involved with several upcoming events to discuss what can be done in our communities and food drives to combat the situation. One of the events is the Packers Superfan Food Drive coming up at 1st and Goal in Green Bay on Wednesday, April 23rd, from 7-10pm. He will also attend an Advocacy Day in Madison with Feeding America. A very eye-opening segment! Another eye-opening segment included Greta Gaworek and Sarah Kubiak from Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Northeast Wisconsin. LIVE with 7000apart

Our favorite duo from Green Bay and Sweden, 7000apart, joins Maino & the Mayor to grace us with some music. Amelie also announces that she is the Swedish voice for Snow White in Disney's live-action remake and sings a snippet. They also share the process in creating their upcoming 3rd album, Why We Do What We Do: From songs about mental health and self-discovery to anthems made for singing along live, this album is our love letter to you—the people who make it all possible.7000apart Maino & the Mayor's LIVE Music Series broadcasts live from the WGBW studio in downtown Green Bay. Trucker Thursday!

It's a Trucker Thursday, and the morning meanderings are all over the place. From burritos (it's Burrito Day), and scooping poop (it's Pooper Scooper Week). We find out that Maino's family used dog poo as fertilizer on their vegetable garden. That answers so many questions for all of us! The guys also do a quick poll on whether our listeners are more familiar with a couple of songs: Merle Haggard - Mama Tried or Wayne Newton - Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast. Maino felt the winner would be Merle. The Mayor picked Wayne Newton. The winner, according to our listeners: Merle Haggard. Hands down. Veteran’s Salute & Altrusa

Courtesy of Olsen Legal Group, LLC we present today's Veterans Salute with Michelle Wynveen, the Veterans Services Coordinator for Calumet County. The mission of the Veterans Service Office is to support Veterans, their dependents, and their survivors by providing advocacy and professional services to assist Veterans in pursuing all obtainable benefits. She has an incredible story of her service while in the Marines and now helping veterans connect with all the services available in Calumet County. Then, Annie Bongiorno and Kristine Blum bring the energy from Altrusa Hospitality The hospitality program was born of a request from the St. Vincent Cancer Center to The Altrusa Club of Green Bay to assist with the readying of a 3-bedroom, donated home on Porlier Street. The group helps provide a place to stay for out-of-town family members of hospital patients. Altrusa is looking for local homeowners to consider offering their homes to guests during the draft. Humpday!

No more political ads!! I think we're all happy with that. It's Peanut Butter & Jelly Day, and the chatter is about whether chunky or smooth peanut butter is better. And also whether or not grape jelly is any good. (Todd thinks it's great because he grew up eating his mom's tomato jelly. Yuck!) Then, Wayne Stiegelman from A-Frame Acres joins the guys to give some insight into a recent story about millions of bees dying. Although Wayne doesn't have the complete answer, there are thoughts that it may be another virus. More studies will need to be done. However, Wayne teaches the guys that bees are needed to pollinate most things. (Our listeners were surprised that the guys didn't know that blueberries and almonds, among so many other things, all need bees.) Weekly Best of Maino and the Mayor for Mar 29

We continue our special program honoring the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War (March 29th). Gail and Kim Nohr with Veterans 1st of Northeast Wisconsin join Jim and John to give us an update on the tiny home village they're trying to build to help housing insecure veterans have a stable start toward owning or renting their own housing. They share the good news that, hopefully, after several hurdles, they're getting closer to breaking ground on this project. We offer our respect and thanks to Kim and Gail for their hard work on this very important project. Then, Joe Aulik from the Brown County Veterans Services office joins the show to encourage Veterans to do a yearly check-in with the local offices to see what services and offerings are available. From health care to education funds and more, Joe says it's important to do a yearly check-in because programs continue to change and, in some cases, expand. Projects & Pub & Parlor

A musician who has been part of our Friday morning live music segments, Isaiah Dreissen, joins the show to talk about a few "projects" he has going on. First off is the Cedars Project. The "Cedars Project" in Little Chute refers to the Treaty of the Cedars, a 1836 agreement where the Menominee Indian nation ceded approximately 4 million acres of land to the U.S. government, opening up the Fox River Valley for settlement. Isaiah has created a special space to enhance communities through art and commerce. He also fills us in on the 4th annual Cedars Festival. It's coming up on September 12th and 13th and will feature music from Feed The Dog, the Joseph Huber Trio, and more. We're excited to watch this grow organically. Then Dennis Peters, and Ashley McDermid join for the Heights Pub & Parlor Music Series. This week we feature the music of Chris Hendricks. From Chris's website: “Chris’s life story is like a beautiful ballad that has fluid movement, graceful moments, and inspiring emotions. He is an artist, an inspirational speaker and believes passionately in sharing his message of loving kindness, hope and the value of each and every person’s life..." His music and energy are just amazing! So blessed he joined us this morning.
