Maino Oversleeps

For the first time during the Maino & The Mayor show, Maino is about a minute late. He lost his phone last night, and his alarm clock didn't go off. In the business, we call that a "double whammy." He makes it in just in time to talk with "Cheese Curd" Nick Slupski from The Doghouse about what's new with the NFL Draft. We learn that if your business operates within "the zone" of the draft, the NFL takes 30% off the top! Who knew? We do now! We also talk about the bitterly cold weather and how it affects your car's engine and tires. Green Bay and on WISS in Appleton/Oshkosh. Veterans Salute & Coffee & Spirits

A great friend of the show, Sam Floyd from Operation Coffee, is in to update us on his business. Sam served in the Marine Corps from 2002-2006 and was deployed to Afghanistan from 2003-2004. He started Operation Coffee in 2017 after 11 years of battling mental health and struggling to adjust to civilian life. His mission is to start conversations over coffee and to help our heroes find their new mission. He recently moved into a new brick-and-mortar location in Kaukauna and is now working toward having a coffee shop where customers can enjoy a cup of joe and some baked items. When we asked what folks can do to help Sam's fellow veterans, he responded with, "Be available. Listen without planning to give advice. Be there, and be ready to listen." Then Todd McLean from Sturgeon Spirits in Oshkosh joins the show to talk a bit about the business which supports local suppliers, promotes local history, and helps to make Oshkosh a special place. Housing, Music and Mortgages

Crystal DeCleen from Ecumenical Partnership For Housing in Green Bay joins the show with Dr. Kim Shefchik from Doctors in Recital. EPH provides safety, stability, and solutions leading to self-sufficiency for families with children facing homelessness, and the Doctors in Recital show on Saturday helps raise money for their programs. Doctors in Recital is an evening of musical excellence put on by area physicians donating their time and talents to raise money for local causes. Then our mortgage guru, Kristen Ambos is in from Point Mortgage Corporation. She says she loves to "shop around" for programs that would benefit home buyers and shares a program we'd never heard of: a family-occupied mortgage. Civic Media Meteorologist Brittney Merlot tells us how long this cold spell will last. She says that the wind will continue for the next several days, keeping things very cold. Sports Medicine, Ueck, Veterans Night

It's Friday, which means a great visit with Mark Husen from Bellin Sports Medicine is in the house!! The guys are on a mission to learn and play pickleball, and Mark admits that there is an uptick in injuries for older athletes in that sport. Other injuries this time of year include slips and falls. Mark says you can slip and hit the ground in a matter of seconds. Watching your step and even wearing spikes on your shoes can help create a safer environment. Also, Maino is suffering from gout, and is only wearing one shoe. Enjoy that thought today! Then CBS 58 Sports Director Lance Allen joins to talk about his relationship with the late Bob Uecker. Lance kinda got his start here in Green Bay at TV 5 but moved to Milwaukee many years ago. He says that meeting and working with Uecker was a high point in his career. TGIF & RIP

We're glad it's Friday, but also sentimental over the loss of Mr. Baseball, Bob Uecker. We reminisce about some of our favorite "Ueck" stories and play some audio from The Tonight Show in 1971. That spurs conversation about some of the best sportscasters in the state. Uecker, Irwin, and Garcia are brought up, along with folks like Big Al Sampson. Then our news director, Lisa Hale, joins to give a preview on what's in store this weekend on NEWisco Weekend. It's all about the importance of art in our lives. Polar Plunge!

Addie Teeter joins us on this cold winter morning, and she brings even more of a chill with her by talking about the Special Olympics "Polar Plunge" coming up over the next several weeks in Northeast Wisconsin. From Madison to Milwaukee, to Wisconsin Rapids to Whitewater, the Special Olympics likely has a plunge coming to a location near you! Special Olympics works to create a new world of inclusion and community through sports. Then Rob Demovsky from ESPN joins to talk about the atmosphere at Sunday's Packers/Eagles game. Apparently, there was a woman sitting in front of the press box, and she was screaming vulgarities at the broadcast crew and the Packer's staff. Rob had to "gently" remind her to have a seat and close her mouth. :) Maino and the Mayor is a part of the Civic Media radio network and airs Monday through Friday from 6-9 am on WGBW in Green Bay and on WISS in Appleton/Oshkosh. The “Juice Of Life”

Those were the first words out of Maino's mouth when he walked into the studios this morning. He was carrying a bullet blender full of some concoction. Blueberries, raspberries, chia seeds, protein powder and Tang. We all taste-tested it, and it was actually pretty good. Then Maino goes off about parking meters at the Green Bay library, which opened up the door to a whole segment on parking in the city. We return from break and the guys talk about bubble baths, cutting toenails, and ordering flowers. Then learning, but not really learning, Latin in school comes up in the conversation.
