S1 Ep 194Episode #194: The Secrets of Longevity with Chris Mirabile
If there is one thing that humanity has been striving for since its inception, is the pursuit of longevity. Today I'm with Chris Mirabile, Founder & CEO of NOVOS Labs who brings us one step closer to cracking the code of aging and longevity and offers fascinating insight into the intersection of health, performance, and longevity. We discuss how short-term health strategies may not always contribute positively to longevity, and the nine hallmarks of aging that NOVOS Labs aims to address. These include loss of proteostasis, DNA damage, attrition of telomeres, mitochondrial dysfunction, cellular senescence, altered cellular communication, dysregulated nutrient sensing, epigenetic alterations, and telomere shortening. Chris's interest in health began when he was 12 and evolved into a passion after he was cured of a brain tumor when he was 16. Chris has researched and integrated longevity practices and interventions into his life for more than ten years, has achieved a biological age 13.6 years younger than his chronological age, and according to epigenetic tests like DunedInPACE, is aging 31% slower biologically than chronologically. As we dive deeper into the realm of aging and anti-aging strategies, we bring ourselves one step closer to a future where longevity is not just a dream, but a reality. Chris Mirabile graduated from NYU Stern School of Business and later won their business plan competition with his startup company, Hotlist, a location-based social network that scaled to 220 million people's social plans. Chris has launched multiple successful technology ventures and has advised biotech startups and NYU Langone Hospital. Vist novoslabs.com and use code NAT5 to save. Senescent cells, while often perceived negatively due to their contribution to aging, can also play beneficial roles in certain contexts such as wound healing and limiting fibrosis. However, current senolytics can pose risks due to potential toxicity and lack of precision in targeting the right cells. While strategies such as severe caloric restriction or prolonged fasting can contribute to longevity, they may also have detrimental effects on short-term health and performance. It's crucial to strike a balance and consider the long-term implications of these health strategies. The ideal time to start implementing longevity strategies, like Novos, is around late 20s to early 30s.
S1 Ep 193Episode #193: Gut Health 101: Everything You Need to Know About The Gut Microbiome, Probiotics, and Antibiotics With Colleen Cutcliffe

In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Performance podcast, we chat with Colleen Cutcliffe of Pendulum Life about the effects of our gut microbiome on our mental health, metabolism, energy levels, and learn to pinpoint signs of compromised gut health. Colleen dissects the nuances of probiotics, prebiotics, postbiotics, and synbiotics, and how these elements interact in our gut. Additionally, we examine the often-underestimated impact of antibiotics on our microbiome and how it can be combated with effective strategies. Lastly, we shift our focus to a specific strain of bacteria, known as akkermansia, and explore their role in food metabolism and mood regulation. In the same vein, we contemplate on the potential risks of long-term drug use including GLP-1, and delve into the impact of metformin on gut health. Colleen Cutcliffe is the CEO and Co-Founder of Pendulum Therapeutics. Colleen has over 20 years of experience managing and leading teams in biotech, pharma and academia. Prior to that, Colleen was a Scientist at Elan Pharmaceuticals. However, there isn't a particular diet that will make or break your gut health nor can you eat a nutrient-poor diet and expect probiotic supplements to keep your gut microbiome in good shape. Simply aiming to eat a balanced, nutrient rich diet is the way to go. While antibiotics have a negative impact on your gut health, it does come with a plus side. Given that antibiotics eliminate all bacteria – good and bad – the timeframe following an antibiotic treatment is a great time to focus on fixing your diet so you can repopulate your gut microbiome with the appropriate strains. While many of us blame our poor willpower for our cravings, it's usually our gut microbiome that is to blame. Luckily, there are specific strains one can supplement to help increase GLP-1 and GABA production to stimulate satiety and reduce anxiety, which helps reduce cravings overall.

While there is no one-size-fits-all approach to managing menopausal symptoms through diet, there are certain foods and/ or ingredients that may exacerbate these symptoms for some women and should be avoided. Sleep disruptions are a common symptom experienced by many women during menopause. Three factors which contribute to these sleep disturbances include hormonal changes, hot flashes and night sweats, stress and lifestyle factors, and having to go to the bathroom more often. Weight-lifting is crucial in this stage of life. Women are at risk of losing muscle mass and strength due to hormonal changes. Resistance training helps counteract muscle loss, which can lead to improved functional capacity and overall physical well-being.

Thus, finding the cause of this inflammation in the body is the first step to healing. Afterwards, turning to regenerative medicine is key for undoing the damage caused by the inflammation. Excessive nitric oxide production, often in response to inflammation, can lead to oxidative stress and damage to brain cells. This oxidative stress is believed to contribute to the development of depression and other mood disorders. Research has demonstrated that B cells play a role in tissue repair and remodeling by secreting factors that influence inflammation, fibrosis, and regeneration. Thus, if you are experiencing inflammation in the lungs, addressing the inflammation that is happening in the first place and then using B cell therapy to regenerate the lung tissue may be your best bet for healing.
S1 Ep 186Episode #186: How To Become Fitter in Less Time with REHIT Fitness Workouts with Ulrich Demplfe
Ever heard of REHIT fitness? In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Performance podcast, our guest Ulrich Dempfle shares his quest to replicate this high-intensity, short-duration workout technique that requires a mere 24 minutes of your week. Ulrich shares about the nuanced science behind REHIT and the challenges he faced in finding the right equipment. As we navigate the world of REHIT, Ulrich reveals the surprising benefits of this workout routine. From increasing your VO2 max by 12% - which is comparable to a two-year boost in healthy life expectancy - to a whopping 62% reduction in your METZ score, a risk factor for metabolic diseases like type 2 diabetes. We get into the nuts and bolts of REHIT, discussing how it's less mentally draining than traditional workouts, accommodates your current fitness level, and is ideal for those dealing with cortisol and adrenal fatigue. Ulrich Dempfle is the CEO and co-founder of the Carol Bike, a game-changing exercise equipment that offers efficient workouts in just a few minutes. It's scientifically proven to deliver superior health and fitness benefits compared to normal exercise—in 90% less time. Maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 Max) is a measure of the maximum amount of oxygen that an individual can utilize during intense physical activity. It is often used as an indicator of a person's cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance. Studies demonstrate that only a 12% improvement in VO2 Max is equivalent to a 2 year increase in life expectancy. Given that we lose about 10% of VO2 Max per decade as we age, this is an immense improvement. Sprints are more beneficial than traditional workouts. When you push your limits during sprints, your muscles are forced to mobilize about 25-30% of muscular glycogen—your emergency energy reserve—releasing key signalling molecules (AMPK and PGC-1a), telling your body it must get fitter and stronger. As a result, you develop more mitochondria, your blood plasma volume increases, and your heart gets stronger. The end result is an increased aerobic and anaerobic capacity.
S1 Ep 185Episode #185: Unlocking the Secrets of the GABA Neurotransmitter with Dr. Scott Sherr
Why is GABA, a neurotransmitter that's vital for regulating our feelings, emotions, thoughts, and experiences, often overlooked in the world of neuroscience? In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman podcast, I ponder this question with Dr. Scott Sherr, a repeat guest, who unravels the mystery surrounding GABA's key role in our mental well-being. We venture into the complex labyrinth of the GABA system, elucidating its significance in controlling the firing of neurons, its connection to a leaky blood-brain barrier, and the implications for those of us entrenched in the hustle and bustle of life. Dr. Sherr and I also put under the microscope the intriguing world of supplements and drugs. We peel back the layers on how they interact with the GABA system and the potential mental health risks they harbor. From the influences of alcohol, Xanax, barbiturates, and sleep drugs on the GABA system to natural alternatives, we left no stone unturned. Moreover, if you're on SSRIs, you might find our explorations on supporting the GABA system and rebalancing emotions, thoughts, and feelings very enlightening. In the concluding part of our conversation, we touch upon the intriguing effects of nicotinol GABA, THC, and CBD. We assess the potential benefits of Trozzy, an innovative sleep aid supplement. As the saying goes, 'Sleep is the golden chain that ties health and our bodies together.' Therefore, we also shed light on the importance of good sleep habits and natural ways to enhance the GABA system. While GABA is all over the brain, they're also in a place that are called interneurons. Interneurons are these waystations between neurons that help regulate the processing of information, both downwards and upwards. This is extremely important for how we regulate our emotions, how we regulate our feelings, how we regulate our interactions with other people, and then how we process our thoughts, how we process our experiences, both in the now and also in the past and the future. We may not realize it, but a lot of us are actually GABA deficient. GABA deficiency is a big deal because it's associated with depression, anxiety, and compulsive disorder. It's potentially contributing to things like schizophrenia, mental illness, and alcoholism. We know that SSRIs work on some level to help with mood regulation. However, they do not work right away. It requires anywhere from four to eight weeks for the antidepressant effects to kick in. On the other hand, GABA compounds work right away and elevates your mood.

It's not often just the surface of the skin that's responding to something. It's a systemic issue that's expressing itself through the skin. The best time to use red light therapy is whenever you can. In order to fully benefit from it, you need to use it consistently. There is a difference between red light and infrared light. Red light only goes a bit beyond skin deep and that's because it's absorbed mainly by the blood. Once it hits that capillary bed under the skin, that's about as far as it goes. Now there's always systemic effects, because we get all the benefits of increased ATP, and that information gets delivered to deeper parts of the body. However, infrared light goes significantly deeper than red.
S1 Ep 179Episode #179: Debunking Lyme Disease and Immune Response Myths with Dr. Chris Turnpaugh
What can be done to treat chronic illnesses? That's just what we do in our riveting discussion with Dr. Chris Turnpaugh in this week's episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Performance podcast. This is not the same thing as being reinfected, thus would require a different approach for treatment. This reaction is the reason why some people believe they can never be cured from Lyme disease. Spike proteins are a type of protein found on the surface of certain viruses, most notably SARS-CoV-2. These proteins play a critical role in the virus's ability to infect host cells and is important in vaccines. When the immune system encounters this spike protein, it generates an immune response, including the production of antibodies. The impact of this immune response takes a bigger toll on the body than pharmaceutical companies make it seem. BPC and PTA are a powerful peptide combination. Studies demonstrate it to be extremely effective in reducing pain and accelerating tissue repair.

It was discovered on Easter Island in 1966 and approved for kidney transplant patients in 1996 by the FDA. It has potential as a revolutionary new type of chemotherapy and can be used to better understand cellular metabolism and the aging process. When it comes to achieving healthy longevity, balance between mTOR and autophagy is essential. Our ancestral humans achieved this naturally due to their lifestyle of eating once a day, spending four hours digesting their food, and sometimes going two or three days without nutrient intake. But today, food is available all the time, leading to an over-activation of mTOR and a lack of autophagy. To restore the balance, intermittent fasting, rapamycin, exercise, and eating healthy are advocated. When it comes to rapamycin, it's important to remember that it won't override bad habits and it's not a miracle quick fix. To gain the full benefits, a reasonable diet, exercise, and sleep regularly are necessary.
S1 Ep 175Episode #175: Dr. Bruce Hoffman: Demystifying Mast Cell Activation Syndrome
Could you imagine a condition that affects virtually every organ, eludes the standard diagnostic criteria, and causes multi-system inflammation? Meet the perplexing world of mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS). MCAS is an elusive condition that affects many, yet remains largely misunderstood. MCAS is a syndrome that triggers multi-system inflammation, and due to its diverse range of symptoms, it often eludes typical diagnostic processes. It has a profound impact on both the body and mind. Mast cells are integral to our innate immune system, playing a crucial role in safeguarding us against foreign invaders, allergens, and environmental toxins. This can result in a wide range of symptoms and can be difficult to diagnose. Potential triggers of this hyperactivity can include environmental toxins, mold, and certain foods. Physical and mental health are interconnected when it comes to MCAS. Individuals with this syndrome may have early developmental trauma which can exacerbate symptoms. Learning self-regulation techniques, such as neurofeedback, can be beneficial for managing stress and promoting balance in the body and mind. The treatment and management of MCAS is complex and often involves a combination of nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals, dietary adjustments, and the creation of a neutral environment. Continuous vigilance is necessary to avoid triggers and manage the condition effectively. It is crucial to build resilience against environmental toxins and to focus on overall well-being.
S1 Ep 174Episode #174: Discover the Lifestyle Diet That Suits You Best
As a nutritionist, I've always been fascinated by food and the power of food to heal our bodies. Over the last couple of years, the rhetoric around diets has been heating up–from keto to paleo to vegan, vegetarian, and now even carnivore. Diets are just lifestyles, so what is best? Today I'm exploring this hot topic and sharing tips for adopting a new lifestyle or thinking about a new lifestyle and then applying it. Do your homework before making a dramatic diet change. It's vital to collect data about your health and I discuss the importance of baseline tests and how to measure and monitor your progress when changing dietary lifestyles. Dietary choices should be based on personal health status, lifestyle, and genetic makeup rather than blindly following popular trends or extreme diets. It's important to test and collect data when making a diet change. It's advised to do blood work, assess micronutrient status, and examine the gut microbiome to get a clear picture of one's starting point. Monitoring body composition, such as getting a DEXA scan, is also suggested to measure progress. Long-term health and longevity are complex and cannot be solely attributed to a single dietary choice. Other lifestyle factors such as caloric restriction, periods of fasting, regular physical activity, and stress management are also crucial for promoting longevity.
S1 Ep 173Episode #173: Victor Sagalovsky: The Healing Benefits of Deuterium-Depleted Water
Have you ever heard of heavy water? In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Performance podcast, I chat with Victor Sagalovsky, Co-Founder and CEO of Litewater Scientific, about deuterium-depleted water. Deuterium is a naturally occurring isotope of hydrogen that has an extra neutron in its nucleus, making it twice as heavy as ordinary hydrogen, thus where it got its name of heavy water. Studies suggest that reducing deuterium levels in the body can have positive effects on various biological processes, such as improved cellular function, enhanced energy production, increased support of the immune system, and potential anti-aging properties. Victor also shares how much deuterium we should have in our bodies, how long it takes to see results from drinking deuterium-depleted water, and who is most likely to experience the biggest shift in their health from intaking heavy water. Victor Sagalovsky is the co-founder and CEO of Litewater Scientific, the first and only super deuterium-depleted light water, where he has dedicated himself to the research, development, and production of this rare water. Victor has researched and studied the benefits of deuterium-depleted water through his theory entitled Endogenous Radiation Damage Theory of Aging. It proposes that our biggest obstacle to longevity is the excess deuterium and other damaging isotopes on the planet and proper mitigation will radically extend our lifespans. Key takeaways: Deuterium is a naturally occurring isotope of hydrogen that has an extra neutron in its nucleus, making it twice as heavy as ordinary hydrogen, thus where it got its name of heavy water. Deuterium-depleted water is considered to be a huge factor in why certain people get to live past 100 years old. Not only does it improve mitochondrial function, but it also helps reduced oxidative stress, enhance cellular repair, and regulate hormones that influence aging and lifespan. Deuterium mainly affects mitochondrial function, which plays a crucial role in energy production by generating adenosine triphosphate (ATP). This is because deuterium has a larger mass compared to hydrogen, which can influence the rates of enzymatic reactions occurring in the mitochondria. High levels of deuterium in the mitochondria can also disrupt the balance of cellular redox reactions and potentially impact mitochondrial function.

This results in healthier soil, more nutrient-dense food, and the potential to sequester carbon. There is a common misconception that meat is a major cause of disease. However, the real dietary villains are sugar, carbohydrates, and processed foods. Animal products are our most nutrient-dense foods, but the quality and source of the meat you consume matters significantly. Grass-fed, pasture-raised meat has significant health benefits and is better for the environment than grain-fed, factory-farmed meat. Traditional diets often incorporated organ meats, suggesting that they have long been recognized for their nutritional benefits. Consuming organ meats, such as heart, liver, kidney, and spleen, can be beneficial for their nutrient profile, which includes zinc, iron, B12, and vitamin A.
S1 Ep 170Episode #170: Dr. Dale Bredesen: An In-Depth Understanding of Alzheimer's Disease
In recent years, there has been a significant change in how we approach and address diseases. Previously, the responsibility of maintaining good health largely relied on the healthcare system. However, this mindset has shifted, and individuals are now encouraged to play an active role in advocating for their own health. Understanding the biochemical processes that contribute to illnesses, such as Alzheimer's, has become crucial in managing and taking control of our personal health journey. By recognizing the intricate mechanisms that lead to diseases like Alzheimer's, we can make more informed decisions regarding our lifestyle choices, medical interventions, and preventative measures. I'm joined by Dr. Dale Bredesen, and we're diving into the intricacies of Alzheimer's, its prevention, and even reversal possibilities. We cover the crucial role of the immune system in both Alzheimer's and COVID, and the fascinating connections between these diseases. Dr. Bredesen also discusses his lab's ground-breaking work to understand the neurodegenerative process, which has resulted in three books and thousands of people experiencing improvements in their conditions. Dale E. Bredesen, M.D., is internationally recognized as an expert in the mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, and the author of the New York Times bestsellers The End of Alzheimer's (Avery, 2017) and The End of Alzheimer's Program (Avery, 2020), as well as The First Survivors of Alzheimer's (Avery, 2021). These tests are comprehensive and not typically performed by most doctors. They examine various factors that contribute to cognitive decline, such as ongoing inflammation, toxin levels, and metabolism. Additionally, the tests also cover factors like sleep apnea, as reduced oxygenation during sleep can negatively impact brain health. If an individual has zero copies of the APOE4 gene, their lifetime risk for developing Alzheimer's disease is approximately 9%. While this risk is not zero, it is not considered significantly high. On the other hand, individuals with a single copy of the APOE4 gene have a much higher lifetime risk of around 30% for developing Alzheimer's. Those with two copies of the gene have an even greater risk of about 70%, suggesting that a majority of them will likely develop Alzheimer's during their lifetime. There is an interesting phenomenon associated with receiving certain vaccines early in life, such as the BCG vaccine, which has been shown to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease. It appears that preparing the adaptive immune system at an early stage may be beneficial. On the contrary, when the innate immune system is modified later in life through late vaccinations, boosters, or exposure to substances like beta-glucans, it can potentially elevate the activity of the innate system again.

We don't necessarily have to get upset when someone says something negative to us, as our emotional reactions are our own responsibility. This also extends to taking 100% responsibility for our own personal growth and life journey, and being mindful of our words and actions towards others. Bile serves as the pathway for toxins to exit the liver and enter the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. However, stress, being in a sympathetic state, and estrogen dominance can block bile flow. This can lead to activation of glutamate receptors and hinder the prioritization of regenerative processes. It is easy to fall into an inflammatory state, inhibiting positive growth and contributing to weight gain. Toxins play a role in triggering and prolonging this inflammatory state, preventing us from entering a positive, regenerative state. There are a multitude of environmental toxins that we are exposed to, as well as our own biological waste, which can accumulate if our body's processes are not functioning properly.
S1 Ep 168Episode #168: Dr. Anurag Singh: Mitochondrial Activation and Its Impact on Muscle Performance
Whether you're a professional athlete or someone who just wants to maintain muscle mass as you get older, mitophagy is a process we should all be focusing on. It both produces and consumes the most energy currency, ATP. This is because even small movements like getting up from a chair or climbing stairs require a significant amount of energy. Activating mitophagy, the process by which damaged or dysfunctional mitochondria are selectively removed, has been shown to have significant positive effects on muscle performance. By selectively eliminating these damaged components, it allows for the generation of new and healthy mitochondria, thus enhancing muscle function. Maintaining a healthy immune system can directly impact our overall health and lifespan. Immune cells, just like muscle, brain, and heart cells, contain numerous mitochondria. These mitochondria play a crucial role in supporting the high energy demands of immune cells.

However, in the first few years after menopause, there is a significant acceleration of bone loss. If individuals have not proactively taken measures to mitigate this rapid loss, their condition could worsen. This pattern can be applied to other organ systems as well, where starting the menopausal transition in a good state overall leads to better outcomes. It is essential to understand that the testosterone produced by the ovaries plays a crucial role in promoting overall health and well-being in women. The ovaries have the ability to produce testosterone indefinitely in a different part of the ovary, even after the eggs are depleted. This explains why removing the ovaries, even in post-menopausal years when they are no longer producing estrogen or progesterone, can negatively impact a woman's health and increase mortality. The prime directive of life is reproduction, and humans are the only species on the planet that actively work towards controlling their reproductive fate. Unlike animals in the wild, humans have the capability to make deliberate decisions about when to have children. Setting aside the aspect of choice, it is crucial to understand that the female body is inherently optimized and designed for fertility and reproduction.
S1 Ep 166Episode #166: Martha Carlin: Unlocking the Mysteries of the Microbiome
Imagine a world where you could restore balance to your body, combat chronic diseases, and improve health trajectories through a deep understanding of your microbiome. That's exactly what we're exploring today with businesswoman-turned-research-scientist Martha Carlin, who embarked on this incredible journey after her husband was diagnosed with Parkinson's at a young age. Her captivating research has led to groundbreaking connections between the microbiome and the onset of chronic diseases such as Parkinson's, and she believes that restoring the microbiome could make a substantial difference in our overall health. We're diving into the complex world of microbial peptides, toxins, and pathogens, particularly their influence on the body's immune system. We also discuss the potential links between copper, iron, and neurological diseases, and how copper's role in iron regulation could have far-reaching implications. Martha's fascinating insights also shed light on the connection between glyphosate, food contamination, and how it could be affecting our health. When we eat, our bodies extract various nutrients and compounds from the food, which contain valuable information that gets transmitted to our system. The gut plays a crucial role in this process, serving as the interface or channel for communication between the food and our cells. Heat Shock Protein (HSP) 65 is produced by certain pathogens or microbes, and it is not beneficial to us. On the other hand, HSP 60 and Alpha-b Crystallin play important roles in maintaining our health. However, the presence of the nefarious alpha crystalline and HSP 65 confuses our body, causing it to mistakenly attack our own beneficial proteins. Higher iron levels may increase the likelihood of hosting more pathogens, and the immune system responds by attempting to sequester the iron and prevent pathogen access. However, this defensive strategy often involves storing iron in the body's tissues, which subsequently leads to inflammation.
S1 Ep 165Episode #165: Forrest Smith: The Healing Power of Red Light Therapy
If you've ever suffered from joint pain or inflammation, you know just how much it can take a toll on your quality of life. Whether you're an athlete suffering from a sports-related injury or someone who's noticed more and more aches and pains as you've gotten older, finding a solution to joint pain can seem almost impossible. Luckily, my guest today is here to talk about the light therapy device that is a game-changer for pain management. Key Takeaways: Cartilage, the slow-growing but ever-evolving tissue in our bodies, plays a crucial role in supporting our joints and bones. Similar to bones, cartilage grows gradually and follows a unique process involving specialized cells called chondroblasts. These chondroblasts can be stimulated to proliferate faster through the application of infrared and red light treatment. Locally generated inflammation damages more than just the regional delivery of blood- it also damages the blood vessel tissue throughout the rest of your body, which is a main cause of long term cardiovascular disease. By addressing the localized inflammation, you're preventing it from spreading to the rest of the body. Infrared light has the ability to interact with proteins like hemoglobin, cytochrome C oxidase, and other heme proteins in the mitochondria. By targeting these proteins with infrared light, it reduces the affinity of nitric oxide for their binding sites, enabling them to access more oxygen. This interaction can potentially enhance oxygen delivery in the body.
S1 Ep 164Episode #164: Carolina Oliveira: Healthy Skin Aging, Cellular Senescence, and OneSkin
Our skin was designed to function as a barrier to protect our bodies from environmental stressors and pathogens, but unfortunately, our skin barrier is one of the main factors that is compromised as we age. Many of us are constantly looking for the next best thing to slow down and possibly even reverse these signs of skin aging, and my guest today is here to explain why focusing on products that work on the molecular level is the key to healthy aging. I'm joined by Carolina Oliveira, the CEO and co-founder of OneSkin, to discuss everything you need to know about healthy aging in the skin. We cover cellular senescence, biological age, systemic inflammation, and the research being done at OneSkin to quantify these things. We also talk about some of the other factors that have an impact on skin health, and of course dive into the first peptide developed to reverse skin aging at the molecular level: OS-O1. Carolina Oliveira is the CEO and co-founder of OneSkin. She holds a Ph.D. in stem cell biology and tissue engineering, is a co-inventor of 5 patents and co-author of numerous scientific publications. She relocated from Brazil to Silicon Valley in 2016 to found OneSkin, a fast-growing longevity company developing products to promote skin health by targeting aging at the molecular level. [00:43:22] How OneSkin products can potentially lower systemic inflammation [00:50:09] The different concentration of OS-O1 in each product Key Takeaways: Cellular senescence is a process in which cells stop dividing after reaching their replication limit of around 50 times. These cells have accumulated various mutations that can lead to cancer if they continue to divide. Therefore, cellular senescence functions as a protective mechanism for the body. However, these senescent cells also secrete inflammatory signals that can cause neighboring cells to age faster. When it comes to choosing skincare products, it is important to pay attention to the ingredients list. Some ingredients, like parabens and fragrance, can cause irritation or harm to the skin. Parabens are preservatives that have been linked to endocrine disruption, while fragrance can cause allergic reactions or sensitivity. Websites like EWG can be a helpful resource for checking the safety of skincare products and their ingredients. Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs) are naturally occurring compounds that are formed when glucose reacts with proteins in the body. The accumulation of AGEs in the skin leads to the degradation of collagen and elastin fibers, which are responsible for keeping the skin firm and elastic.

[00:51:52] How to access ketamine therapy Key Takeaways: Ketamine is a type of drug that is known to be dissociative. This means that it can cause a person to feel disconnected from the outside world, as if they are in their own world. Ketamine can also cause a person to experience a highly introspective state, where they are able to reflect on their thoughts and emotions in a deeper way than usual. Ketamine is known to be anti-nociceptive, which means that it has the ability to block the signals that are responsible for registering pain in the brain. This means that ketamine can be used to effectively manage pain in patients who are experiencing acute or chronic pain. Ketamine has been found to be particularly effective in addressing emotional dysregulation, which is a common symptom of various mental health conditions. By acknowledging and addressing this symptom, ketamine therapy can help people gain a better understanding of their emotions and learn how to regulate them more effectively.
S1 Ep 162Episode #162: Dr. Nick Bitz: Senescent Cells, Senolytics, and the Importance of Cellular Senescence
Did you know that by the age of 40-50, people have anywhere between 10 to 30% senescent cells in their tissues? Senescent cells are one of the hallmarks of aging, and can disrupt physiology throughout the body. Cellular senescence is the process by which cells permanently stop dividing but do not die off. These senescent cells linger inside the body and accumulate over time, affecting the healthy function of tissues and organs as we age. I'm joined by Dr. Nick Bitz, and we're diving into everything you need to know about senescent cells and cellular senescence. We discuss why our bodies need some senescent cells, and some of the lifestyle changes we can make to support the body's ability to clear senescent cells. Autophagy is the process by which cells break down and recycle their own components. Promoting autophagy can help reduce the formation of senescent cells, as it can help the body remove damaged cells and other debris that can accumulate and lead to cell senescence. Senescent cells can accumulate in different tissues and organs, such as the skin, heart, and lungs, and can disrupt normal function. Therefore, it is important to address senescent cells in all tissues and organs to ensure optimal health.

It is deeply wired into our cells, body, and connective tissues, ensuring that all these functions happen without us being consciously aware of them. Embracing discomfort and taking risks is key to transformation and development. By stepping outside of our comfort zone and exposing ourselves to "good stress", we can help build resilience and adaptability. Humans are fundamentally tied to nature, and this is reflected in our nurture and survival responses. The human response to nature is complex and multifaceted, incorporating both physical and emotional elements. Our bodies are designed to respond to various environmental stimuli, both positive and negative, in order to ensure our survival.
S1 Ep 160Episode #160: Adam Wenguer: How to Enhance Your Focus, Improve Your Sleep Quality, and Reduce Inflammation With Full-Spectrum CBD
Did you know you can take CBD with your morning coffee? In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Podcast, I chat with Adam Wenguer about the endocannabinoid system, which is a biological system composed of endocannabinoids, neurotransmitters, cannabinoid receptors, and receptor proteins. Adam also shares the benefits of taking CBD both in the morning and the evening. While most of us are aware of the benefits we get from taking CBD to get into a parasympathetic state for better sleep, it works wonderfully to help enhance your focus and cognitive function in the morning. Adam Wenguer is the founder and CEO of Element Health, producer of the most potent full-spectrum CBD on the market. He has a vast knowledge of the medicinal use of CBD/cannabinoids for human optimization and is an expert on the Endocannabinoid system. With a background in applied physiology, kinesiology, and human performance, Adam has over 20 years of experience working with professional athletes, company executives, and other high performers seeking to maximize their physical and mental capabilities. Key Takeaways: We all know that less is more, and that couldn't be more true when it comes to CBD. The goal with CBD is not to infinitely increase your dosage, but to reach a point where you need less of it. See, CBD has a thing called reverse tolerance where over time you you will need less of it to feel the same great results. This is due to CBD not directly binding to the receptors in the ECS. Instead, CBD is involved in communicating how to regulate various responses in the body. So once you've reached a peak in the optimization of whatever it is you're trying to improve with CBD, then your body may slowly need less of that CBD to keep up the same good work. Newsflash: CBD can be used all day long — and not only as a sedative at night. The key to reaping most of its benefits is to take the right dose at the right time, depending on the effect you want to have. So if you want to feel focused without the jitters often associated with caffeine, a small amount of CBD in the morning should help. But if you want to slip into a parasympathetic state, then taking CBD is the way to go. The quality of the CBD you intake is just as important - if not more - than the dosage you take in. You need to do your research to find out what the farming, manufacturing, and overall commercialization process is like for the CBD brands you buy from. You need to be intentional about what you put in your body.

Key Takeaways: One of the most common complaints women make once they reach menopause is that nothing feels good when it comes to love-making. The reason? They just can't get aroused like they used to. Given that your vagina is a muscle and not a gland, it can't lubricate itself without blood flow. Your vaginal tissue requires blood flow to seep through the layers of its tissue to wet the lining. But over time, as women reach menopause, the tissue thins out and tends to dry up. Thus, the importance of doing the work to bring blood flow back to your pelvic bowl - especially as you get older. The #1 reason why women don't enjoy sex is that they're engaging in intercourse BEFORE their bodies are properly prepared for it! See, men tend to be aroused very quickly and are ready for intercourse within a few minutes of foreplay. On the other hand, women need an average of 20 to 30 minutes of consistent stimulation to be fully aroused. As a result, this makes sex less enjoyable as women engage in intercourse BEFORE enough time has gone by to ensure adequate blood flow has made its way toward their vaginal tissue - which would properly lubricate their vagina. And as women get older and the vaginal tissue thins out, it takes even more time to get aroused - making intercourse more painful than it used to be if they rush it. Most women have been having sex like a dude most of their lives if not all of their lives. While it's something that women don't realize early on in their sex life, it becomes a lot more apparent after menopause when their bodies change.
S1 Ep 158Episode #158: Hannah Went: How to Turn Back The Clock On Biological Aging
Would you want to know when you are going to die? In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Performance podcast, I chat with Hannah Went, Director of Operations at TruDiagnostic, about the stories certain biomarkers can tell about our present health and our future health. From predictors of lifespan to predictors of diseases, there is a large array of biomarkers we can target to help identify a patient's biological age. Hannah also shares what lifestyle changes someone can implement to increase their longevity and reverse the clock on their biological age so that it either equals or underpasses a person's chronological age. They all examine different values that are indicative of longevity. Right now, the most precise clock is the third-generation clock as it is trained on direct biomarkers of health and disease, such as grip strength in people, aging-related brain shrinkage, dental health, lung function, and more. Most of us have a biological age that is more advanced than our chronological age. While some factors influencing this premature aging can't be changed, our biological age is heavily influenced by our lifestyle. Alcohol consumption, tobacco usage, sleeping patterns, stress management, and exercise are some of the few lifestyle aspects that can reduce our lifespan.
S1 Ep 157Episode #157: Joy Kong, MD: The Healing Benefits of Stem Cell Therapy for Immune System Disorders, Cancer, and Cardiovascular Disease
Did you know that stem cell therapy can be used as a preventative measure? In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Performance podcast, I chat with Joy Kong, MD, about stem cell therapy. Stem cell therapy is a medical procedure that involves the use of stem cells to prevent, and address various diseases and conditions. Stem cells are unique cells that can differentiate into different types of cells in the body and can also self-renew to produce more stem cells. Dr. Kong explains the different sources of stem cells they can pull from, such as the bone marrow, the fat tissue, and even from birth tissues. Depending on where the cells are sourced from, each source of stem cells has its advantages and disadvantages. We also chat about how stem cells differentiate from exosomes, the future of stem cell therapy, and what the research is saying about stem cell therapy for autism. Joy Kong, M.D. is a UCLA-trained, triple-board-certified physician. She is the president of Uplyft Longevity Center in Los Angeles, California, where she specializes in stem cell therapy, and ketamine therapy, as well as a wide range of therapeutic modalities to improve patients' overall health by enhancing their body's innate regenerative potentials. [00:25:34] Why bioregulators are often used in conjunction with conventional therapy [00:26:35] Why bioregulators don't need to be used indefinitely Key Takeaways: Bioregulator peptides are molecules that can act as epigenetic switches, meaning they can modify gene expression without altering the genetic code itself. By selectively turning on or off certain genes, bioregulator peptides can help regulate a variety of biological processes, from inflammation and immune response to tissue repair and regeneration. There are currently 21 bioregulator peptides that address many different organ systems and can be used to improve your overall health. These peptides are derived from various sources, including plant and animal tissues, and work by signaling cells to perform specific functions. In many cases, bioregulators are used to enhance the effects of other forms of treatment. For example, they may be used alongside medication or physical therapy to help improve overall health and well-being. By using bioregulators in combination with conventional therapy, patients may be able to experience greater symptom relief and faster healing times.
S1 Ep 155Episode #155: James Barry: Pluck Seasonings and The Importance of Organ Meats
You may have already heard how important organ meats are when it comes to health optimization, but many people still shy away from the idea of consuming these organ meats in place of a steak. But the truth is that the nutrients found in organ meats play a crucial role in supporting immune function, brain health, and energy metabolism, and my guest today is here to share why we should all be incorporating these nutrient-rich organs into our diet. I'm joined by James Barry, the founder of Pluck seasonings, to discuss the many benefits of eating organ meats. We discuss why as a society we have moved away from eating organ meats, and the perception that certain foods are healthier than others. James also explains why he decided to start making Pluck seasonings, and how these organ meat seasonings compare to eating the real thing. James Barry's 17 + years in the culinary field started as a private chef cooking for celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Mariska Hargitay, George Clooney, Gerard Butler, Sean "Puffy" Combs, Barbra Streisand, and John Cusack. Most recently, James launched his first functional food product, Pluck, an organ-based seasoning. It's the first of its kind and an amazingly easy and delicious way for people to get organ meats into their diet. James is also a published cookbook author having co-authored the recipes in Margaret Floyd's book Eat Naked and co-authored the follow-up cookbook The Naked Foods Cookbook. He most recently co- authored the recipes in Dr. Alejandro Junger's book, Clean 7. Key Takeaways: One of the biggest myths about eating liver is that it holds a lot of toxins, making it dangerous for us to eat. While it is true that the liver acts as a filter for toxins within the body, it does not store toxins in large quantities. Instead, the liver converts potential toxins into less harmful substances or eliminates them altogether. Organs are often considered to be the most nutrient-dense foods because they are rich in a variety of essential vitamins and minerals that are not found in muscle meat. This is largely due to the fact that organs have distinct physiological functions, and as a result, they contain unique nutrient profiles. It's often healthier to cook at home than to eat out because you have control over the ingredients and cooking methods used in your food. When you cook at home, you can choose fresh and wholesome ingredients to make your meals, avoiding processed foods and excessive amounts of salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats.
S1 Ep 154Episode #154: Danielle LaPorte: Nervous System Regulation, Spirituality, and the Pursuit of Longevity
Did you know there is a connection between spirituality, a balanced nervous system and longevity? When it comes to biohacking, we focus primarily on the supplements we can take, the peptides we can use, and the different technology we can implement into our daily life. But, what many of us forget, is that our mental wellbeing plays a huge role in our health. We can do all the biohacks we want, but if our mental health is not balanced, we'll struggle to optimize our health and longevity…plus, the brain-gut connection is a real thing! My guest today is here to discuss why there's more to the pursuit of longevity than just biohacks and supplements. I'm joined by Danielle LaPorte, and we're diving into the spiritual side of longevity and covering the corollary between the spiritual striving and the physical striving. We also discuss why a person's health history can be the key to healing, things you can do to eliminate any obstacles within your body, and how to balance your sympathetic nervous system with your parasympathetic nervous system. Danielle LaPorte is a member of Oprah's SuperSoul 100 a group who, in Oprah Winfrey's words, "is uniquely connecting the world together with a spiritual energy that matters." Danielle is the creator of the Heart Centered Membership and the Heart Centered Leadership Program with 400+ leaders in 30 countries hosting conversation circles, retreats, and workshops in all kinds of communities and businesses. S1 Ep 153Episode #153: Leslie Kenny: The Hallmarks of Aging and Polyamines
While you may be familiar with the nine hallmarks of aging, over the past several years there have been an additional five added to that list. It might seem overwhelming to have 14 aging processes to keep up with, but it's important to understand that many of them, if not all of them, are essentially interrelated. One thing we've learned about these processes that drive aging are that they are done at a cellular and systemic level. This gives us the opportunity to try and intercept and correct them so that we can live longer, healthier lives. I'm joined by Leslie Kenny, Founder of Oxford Healthspan and Co-Founder of the Oxford Longevity Project. We're talking all about the hallmarks of aging, including how the processes are interconnected, and what we can do to slow these processes down. We also dive into polyamines, specifically spermidine, and how it can boost autophagy. Leslie Kenny is an autoimmune survivor/thriver, certified health coach and Founder and CEO of Oxford Healthspan, bringing to consumers the latest scientifically based molecules proven to slow aging. She is also the Co-Founder of the non-profit Oxford Longevity Project which aims to bring the latest scientific breakthroughs on healthy aging to the general public. Leslie holds degrees from Berkeley and Harvard. What we discuss: 00:01:38 - The symposiums and organizations Leslie is connected to 00:11:21 - The first nine hallmarks of aging 00:15:25 - Inflammation, gut dysbiosis, and autophagy 00:22:22 - The effects of fasting on the body 00:30:09 - The dysregulated RNA process 00:36:03 - What are polyamines? 00:44:42 - How do people get polyamines into their diet? 00:51:40 - Synthetics vs. food derived 00:57:17 - The benefits of spermidine supplements Key Takeaways: Polyamines are derived from amino acids, and they play a role in slowing down the process of aging. The most well known polyamine is spermidine, and it helps to boost autophagy. There are many other molecules in foods and whole food sources, so it is important to consume nutrients through eating whole foods. The body is able to regenerate and self renew itself if we're able to remove the obstacles and facilitate those processes. Leslie's top suggestions for longevity include eating intentionally, joyful movement, sleep, and early morning sunlight. S1 Ep 151Episode #151: Dr. Bill Harris: Fatty Acids and The Omega-3 Index
I'm joined by Dr. Bill Harris, PhD, FASN, President of the Fatty Acid Research Institute and Founder of OmegaQuant Analytics. We're diving into omega-6s and omega-3s and discussing the benefits of these fatty acids and where they come from. We also cover the importance of maintaining a ratio of omega-6 and omega-3, and whether or not omega-3s have an effect on blood clotting and blood circulation. Dr. Harris has been a leading researcher in the omega-3 fatty acid field for over 40 years. He has more than 300 scientific papers on fatty acids and health, the vast majority on omega-3. He has been on the faculty of three medical schools (Universities of Kansas, Missouri (at Kansas City), and South Dakota), and has received 5 NIH grants to study omega-3. He was the co-author on three AHA statements on fatty acids and heart health. As the co-inventor of the Omega-3 Index (and other omega-3 blood tests) and founder of OmegaQuant Analytics, Dr. Harris has been ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide based on the impact of his research. What we discuss: 00:02:38 - Omega-3s and their effects on blood clotting and blood circulation 00:07:23 - The value of omega-6 00:11:54 - The ratio of omega-6 and omega-3 00:18:03 - Where do arachidonic acid and linoleic acid come from, and what do they do? 00:25:22 - The components of omega-3s 00:31:04 - EPA and DHA 00:41:35 - Is there a relationship between omega-6 and omega-3 levels and longevity? 00:46:31 - Fish as a source of omega-3 00:57:21 - Mammalian sourced omega-3s 01:06:35 - 3 things to keep in mind about omega-3s and omega-6s Key Takeaways: Looking at levels of omega-6 fatty acids in the blood can predict future diseases like heart disease and diabetes. Increasing your levels of omega-3 is more important than worrying about getting your omega-6 levels down in order to have a good ratio between the two. It's important to measure your omega-3 levels. These levels are predictive of good health outcomes and even cholesterol levels. S1 Ep 150Episode #150: The Basics of Peptides
You've probably heard about peptides, and you may be wondering, "What are peptides? Why do I need to know about them?" At the end of this episode, you'll have the answers to these questions, plus so much more. We're diving into the basics of peptides, and I'm going to answer some very commonly asked questions about both peptides and bioregulators. We're covering everything from the most important things to remember about peptides, to the different ways peptides can be administered. If you want to learn how peptides work, the benefits of BPC-157, and why most peptides are not FDA approved, you'll want to tune into this episode. What we discuss: 00:03:34: What are peptides? 00:04:26 Insulin is a very well known peptide 00:05:33: Why most peptides are not FDA approved 00:07:49: Why there's not a lot of information about peptides in healthcare 00:09:35: How do peptides work? 00:11:20: The benefits of BPC-157 00:14:14: Using peptides topically 00:17:49: Important things to remember about peptides 00:20:07: The importance of getting peptides from a trusted supplier 00:21:27: Bioregulator peptides 00:23:59: Why bioregulators are highly bio-available orally 00:29:51: Where to find bioregulator peptide supplements Key Takeaways: Bioregulator peptides have been shown to help to extend human life, to reverse biological age and to restore function. When you have a string of amino acids that's either 50 amino acids or less, that is automatically called a peptide. The most common way that peptides are introduced into the body is by subcutaneous injection. Copper peptides are very powerful when used topically, which is why a lot of beauty products incorporate copper peptides.
