Ep 1316OVER: John Mateer's Career At Oklahoma is DONE After New Gambling Scandal Goes Viral, Rumor Alludes
A scandal has recently emerged involving Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer, stemming from screenshots of his past Venmo transactions that circulated on social media. The screenshots, which were reportedly from November 2022 when Mateer was a freshman at Washington State, showed payments with descriptions such as "sports gambling" and "sports gambling (UCLA vs USC)." This came to light on social media on Monday, August 11, 2025. Mateer has since deleted or made his Venmo transaction history private. In response, Mateer released a statement denying the allegations. He claimed the Venmo descriptions were "inside jokes between me and my friends" and that he has never gambled on sports. He stated he understood how the descriptions could be taken out of context but assured his teammates, coaches, and the NCAA that he has not engaged in sports gambling. Oklahoma has also issued a statement, saying they take any gambling allegations seriously and work with the NCAA. The university said it was "unaware of any NCAA investigation and has no reason to believe there is one pending." NCAA rules prohibit student-athletes from gambling on any sports the NCAA sponsors. If a player is found to have wagered on their own sport at another school, a loss of 50% of one season of eligibility is a possible consequence. However, wagering on their own team can result in a permanent loss of eligibility. The outcome of this situation for Mateer is currently unclear. Ep 1313CRIMINAL: BYU, Baylor Left OUT of AP Poll, Texas Tech FORGOTTEN, SEC Dominates Via Media, Brand Bias
The omission of Utah, Baylor, and BYU from the 2025 preseason polls represents a significant and questionable oversight by the voters, as a compelling case can be made for all three. The exclusion of the University of Utah is arguably the most glaring error. Fresh off a dominant 10-2 debut season in the Big 12, the Utes proved they are a legitimate conference power. Under the steady hand of esteemed coach Kyle Whittingham, Utah has a well-established identity of toughness and discipline, particularly on defense. Returning a significant portion of that formidable unit, along with their proven track record, should have made them a lock for the Top 25. Similarly, Baylor's 9-3 record last season showed a program on a sharp upward trajectory, consistently outperforming expectations. With the return of most of their powerful offensive line, the Bears are primed for another explosive season and their absence from the poll seems to ignore their clear momentum and potential. While perhaps a step behind the other two, BYU's respectable 8-4 record in the competitive Big 12, coupled with the return of their starting quarterback and other key players, demonstrates their capability and experience. Their performance was strong enough to merit consideration over several teams with similar records from other conferences that likely received votes based on brand recognition rather than recent results. When viewed collectively, the snubbing of these three proven Big 12 teams suggests that voters overlooked their tangible on-field success and returning talent in favor of more traditional, yet potentially less deserving, "helmet schools." Their combined credentials paint a clear picture of programs that earned a spot among the nation's best, making their collective absence a serious flaw in the preseason rankings.FanDuelToday's episode is brought to you by FanDuel. Ep 1312BRUTALLY HONEST Quarterback Update for BYU, West Virginia, Can Bear Bachmeier, Nicco Marchiol Lead?
Both West Virginia and BYU enter the 2025 season with significant question marks at the quarterback position, a situation that could prove costly in the highly competitive Big 12. While both coaching staffs express confidence, the lack of a clear, proven starter is a major concern.West Virginia's Quarterback CarouselWest Virginia's quarterback situation is a true position battle. Head coach Rich Rodriguez has been open about the competition between three players with college experience. Nicco Marchiol: The returning starter who led the Mountaineers to some key wins in 2024. Jaylen Henderson: A transfer from Texas A&M who saw some success there but didn't play in 2024. Max Brown: A transfer from Charlotte who is also vying for the job. While Rodriguez has said he "has three guys who could win in the Big 12," the lack of a named starter heading into fall camp creates uncertainty. Fans worry that rotating quarterbacks or having an inexperienced player take the reins could lead to inconsistent offensive production, which would be disastrous in a league full of veteran signal-callers. The constant shuffling in the quarterback room and the lack of a defined leader could hinder offensive continuity and chemistry. BYU's Unexpected Void BYU's situation is even more precarious after the unexpected departure of quarterback Jake Retzlaff, who led them to an 11-2 record and an Alamo Bowl win in 2024. His transfer has left a major void, and the Cougars are now scrambling to find a replacement. The quarterback battle in Provo is between a trio of players, none of whom have started a significant number of games at the Power Four level:McCae Hillstead: A transfer from Utah State who showed flashes of brilliance as a freshman but had durability concerns.Treyson Bourguet: A transfer from Western Michigan who has a strong arm but is still getting comfortable with the system. Bear Bachmeier: A talented true freshman transfer from Stanford who has the highest upside but the steepest learning curve. While all three players are talented, none have the on-field experience or the command of the offense that Retzlaff brought. Their Week Zero opener against Portland State is not a difficult matchup, but it won't prepare them for the challenge of a Big 12 schedule. This lack of a clear leader at quarterback could be a significant weakness for a BYU team that has been predicted to contend for the conference title.FanDuelToday's episode is brought to you by FanDuel. Ep 1311EXPERT: ESPN is BLATANTLY Rigging Strength of Schedule for SEC, Crushing Big 12, ACC, Big 10
ESPN's Strength of Schedule (SOS) metric, a key component of its Football Power Index (FPI), is often criticized for a methodology that, by its very design, appears to skew in favor of the SEC. While the exact, proprietary formula is not public, its known inputs and a self-reinforcing cycle create a scenario where the SEC's schedule is almost always deemed the most difficult. The core of the issue lies in the recursive nature of the FPI system. Here's a breakdown of how it works:Preseason Team Ratings: FPI starts with preseason ratings that are heavily influenced by a team's performance over the past four years and, crucially, its recruiting rankings. The SEC has a long history of on-field success and consistently brings in the top recruiting classes in the nation. This gives SEC teams a high baseline rating before a single game is played.Opponent Ratings Dictate SOS: A team's Strength of Schedule is calculated based on the combined rating of its opponents. Because a significant number of SEC teams begin the season with high FPI ratings, simply playing an all-SEC schedule automatically gives a team a top-tier SOS. For example, a team might get a high SOS for playing a team ranked No. 15 in the preseason, even if that team finishes the season unranked. The Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: This creates a feedback loop. High preseason ratings for SEC teams lead to high SOS ratings for all teams that play them. That high SOS, in turn, boosts a team's final ranking, even if they have multiple losses. This allows more SEC teams to remain ranked, which further solidifies the conference's "strength" in the eyes of the metric.Critics argue that this creates an unfair advantage, where a team from the SEC with a few losses might be ranked higher than a team from another conference with a better record simply because the metric values the "difficulty" of their SEC schedule more highly. This perception is often a point of contention in discussions about the College Football Playoff selection process, where SOS is a key factor.Sources Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 1309REPORT: SEC Attempting to STEAL WEST VIRGINIA from Big 12 in Realignment Move... Or is it Fake?
The rumors and discussions surrounding West Virginia's potential move to the SEC are primarily speculative, often originating from fan discussions, message boards, and independent content creators who are "connecting the dots" based on past realignment talks and geographic considerations. Here's a breakdown of the current situation: No Official Sources: There have been no official reports from respected journalists like Pete Thamel or Ross Dellenger, nor have any SEC or WVU officials confirmed any such talks. The SEC's current expansion focus, as reported by sources, is primarily on poaching elite brands from the ACC, with schools like North Carolina, Florida State, and Clemson being the top targets. Historical Context, not Current Reality: The idea of West Virginia joining the SEC is a long-standing rumor that dates back to the early 2010s. At that time, West Virginia was a highly successful program and the SEC did reportedly flirt with the idea of adding them. However, West Virginia ultimately moved to the Big 12, and the SEC expanded with Texas A&M and Missouri instead. This historical interest is often what fuels the current speculation. WVU's Strong Commitment to the Big 12: West Virginia Athletic Director Wren Baker has been a vocal and public supporter of the Big 12. He has openly criticized the Big Ten and SEC's proposals for the College Football Playoff, calling them "unfair" and "a non-starter" for the Big 12. Furthermore, Baker recently signed a contract extension through 2032, signaling a strong commitment to West Virginia and the Big 12. The Big 12's Strategic Advantage: For West Virginia, the Big 12 has become a more stable and geographically sensible home, especially with the recent additions of Cincinnati and UCF creating an "eastern pod." This gives West Virginia a competitive advantage and reduces travel, which would be a major issue if they were to join the geographically sprawling SEC. While the dream of joining the SEC may persist for some fans, the reality of the current realignment landscape and the public comments from WVU's own leadership indicate that the Mountaineers are firmly committed to the Big 12. Ep 1308EXPOSED: ESPN Caught TANKING BYU, Big 12's Recruiting Rankings, Strength of Schedule In Favor of SEC Money
The phenomenon of a recruit's ranking dropping after they commit to a Big 12 school, particularly to programs like BYU, has become a hot topic and a source of frustration for fans. While recruiting services would deny any intentional bias, the perception is widespread and supported by recent examples. The core of the issue stems from the differing ways recruiting services, like Rivals, On3, and 247Sports, evaluate and update their rankings. Initial evaluations are based on pure talent, film, and camp performances. However, once a player commits, their ranking can be influenced by a number of factors, including:The "Blue-Blood" Effect: There's a widely acknowledged belief that a player who commits to a traditional powerhouse like Alabama, Ohio State, or USC often sees their ranking solidify or even get a small bump. The logic, from the services' perspective, is that if an elite program with a history of developing NFL talent is chasing a player, it validates their skill. The Big 12/Non-Blue Blood Effect: The opposite is often perceived to be true for Big 12 schools, and it's a sentiment that has gained traction with recent events. Five-star quarterback Ryder Lyons, a top-tier prospect in the 2026 class, saw his ranking on Rivals reportedly plummet from a five-star to a four-star immediately following his commitment to BYU.The "Exposure" Factor: Recruiting services place a heavy emphasis on their own camp series and national events for evaluation. If a player commits to a school that doesn't actively push them to attend these events, or if the player isn't seeking that kind of exposure after their commitment, their ranking may stagnate or drop.Lack of Transparency: Fans and analysts have criticized these services for a lack of transparency when rankings change. In the case of Ryder Lyons, his downgrade occurred without any new on-field performance or a clear scouting report to justify the change, leading to accusations of bias against BYU and the Big 12 as a whole. While recruiting services would argue these are simply fluid re-evaluations based on a continuous process, the timing of these ranking changes—so often following a commitment to a school outside of the traditional elite tier—has created a narrative of bias and has led fans to question the integrity of the entire system.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYTime to fuel up and turn it up with 5-hour ENERGY®️ Transfusion! Ep 1307RIGGED: BYU to Iowa State, Coaches Poll BURIED Big 12 Teams At Bottom, Texas Tech Should Be TICKED!
The recently released 2025 preseason Coaches Poll delivered a significant blow to the Big 12's national standing, with the conference lagging behind its power conference peers in the rankings. While the Big 12 has often been praised for its competitive depth, the poll reflects a perception that its top teams are not on par with the elites of the SEC and Big Ten. The SEC, in particular, dominated the conversation, placing a staggering nine teams in the preseason Top 25. This includes the new No. 1 team, Texas, along with other highly ranked programs like Georgia, Alabama, and LSU. The Big Ten also fared better, with six teams making the initial cut. In stark contrast, the Big 12 had just five teams represented in the Top 25. The highest-ranked of those was Arizona State, coming in at No. 11, followed by a cluster of teams in the lower half of the poll: Kansas State at No. 20, Iowa State at No. 21, BYU at No. 23, and Texas Tech at No. 24. While five ranked teams does demonstrate some competitive balance, the lack of any Big 12 program in the Top 10 highlights a clear national perception that the conference lacks a true championship contender. This Coaches Poll ranking sets a challenging narrative for the Big 12 heading into a new season, suggesting that its teams will once again be forced to prove their worth on the field to gain national respect and secure a place in the expanded College Football Playoff.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYTime to fuel up and turn it up with 5-hour ENERGY®️ Transfusion! Ep 1306NEW: Washington State, Oregon State ABANDONING PAC-12 To Join Big 12 in Expansion IS ULTIMATE GOAL!
In the ever-shifting landscape of college athletics, the Big 12 Conference faces a strategic decision in its expansion considerations. While programs like North Carolina State, Wake Forest, and Pittsburgh offer established East Coast presences, a compelling, data-driven argument can be made for extending invitations to the Pacific Northwest's Washington State and Oregon State. This case is built on key metrics including media market penetration, competitive consistency, and strategic geographical positioning. Here are bulleted reasons, supported by hard facts, for why the Big 12 should prioritize the additions of Washington State and Oregon State: 1. Unlocking New and Underserved Media Markets: The addition of Washington State and Oregon State would grant the Big 12 access to significant West Coast media markets, a region currently untapped by the conference. According to 2023 Nielsen DMA (Designated Market Area) rankings, the Seattle-Tacoma market, where many Washington State alumni reside, is the 12th largest in the nation. The Portland market, central to Oregon State's viewership, ranks 22nd. In contrast, the ACC already has a strong foothold in the regions of the other candidates. The Raleigh-Durham market (NC State) is ranked 24th, and the Charlotte market (near Wake Forest) is 21st. The Pittsburgh market comes in at 26th. Adding these schools would lead to market overlap and redundancy for a national conference. By expanding west, the Big 12 would introduce its brand to millions of new potential viewers and increase its national appeal. 2. Demonstrably Stronger and More Consistent Viewership: Despite recent conference instability, Washington State and Oregon State have maintained respectable television viewership, a key indicator of fan engagement and brand strength. In the 2023 college football season, a year marked by uncertainty for the Pac-12, Washington State still commanded an average of 597,000 viewers for its televised games. This figure is notably higher than that of Wake Forest, which averaged 498,000 viewers in the same season. While NC State and Pittsburgh had higher average viewership in 2023, the Pacific Northwest schools offer a dedicated late-night broadcast window, a valuable asset for television partners seeking to maximize their programming schedules and capture a national audience across different time zones. 3. Recent On-Field Competitiveness and Program Trajectory: In the crucial sport of football, both Oregon State and Washington State have demonstrated recent success and a positive trajectory. In the 2022 season, Oregon State finished with a 10-3 record and was ranked in the final AP Poll, a feat not matched by NC State (8-5), Wake Forest (8-5), or Pittsburgh (9-4) that year. Washington State achieved a 7-6 record in 2022 and has consistently produced competitive teams that have reached bowl eligibility in eight of the last ten full seasons. This level of consistency is a strong indicator of a program's ability to compete and win within a Power Five conference structure. Ep 1305NEW: Louisville WANTS INTO BIG 12, Brett Yormark Doing Them A FAVOR By Robbing Cardinals From ACC
If UNC were to successfully leave the ACC, it's highly likely that Louisville would embrace a move to the Big 12. For the Cardinals, such a move would not be about loyalty but about financial stability, competitive necessity, and fan-driven desire for a better conference fit. Here's why Louisville would likely embrace a move to the Big 12: Financial Security: This is the most critical factor. Louisville's athletic department, like many across the country, is facing financial headwinds. The university's 2026 budget projects a $12.5 million deficit in the first year of the revenue-sharing era. A move to the Big 12 would immediately provide a significant revenue increase, as the Big 12's media rights deal is far more lucrative per school than the ACC's. This would help the athletic department balance its books and invest in its athletic programs to remain competitive. Geographic and Travel Relief: Louisville's time in the ACC has brought a lot of long-distance travel, especially with the additions of West Coast schools. A move to the Big 12 would allow them to join a growing "eastern pod" with West Virginia, Cincinnati, and UCF. This would create a much more regionalized schedule, drastically reducing travel burdens and costs for all sports and making it easier for fans to attend away games. This is a major selling point for fans and administrators alike. Reviving Storied Rivalries: Louisville has deep historical ties to the Big East, and many of its fans still feel a sense of rivalry with schools from that era. A move to the Big 12 would put them back in a conference with West Virginia and Cincinnati, reviving competitive matchups that have been largely absent. The potential to reunite the "Backyard Brawl" with Pitt if they were also to move would be another huge driver of fan excitement and engagement. Basketball Prestige: The Big 12 is widely considered the best men's basketball conference in the nation. Adding Louisville, with its championship pedigree and strong basketball tradition, would be a huge boost for the program's visibility and its ability to compete against a slate of elite opponents every year. For a school that has struggled with coaching buyouts and program stability, moving to the best basketball conference would provide a powerful narrative of renewal and opportunity. While there may be some who prefer the ACC's brand or the long-standing relationships with certain schools, the overwhelming financial and logistical benefits of joining the Big 12, coupled with the opportunity to revive regional rivalries, would be something that Louisville and its fanbase would almost certainly embrace. Ep 1304NEW: Big 12 Wants to Add Louisville In Realignment BOMBSHELL As North Carolina Goes From ACC to SEC?
The Big 12 is in a prime position to add Louisville as the ACC crumbles, and they should do so with a clear, strategic plan that benefits both the conference and the Cardinals. This isn't just about adding a school; it's about solidifying the Big 12's footprint, enhancing its athletic prestige, and strategically positioning the conference for the future. Here's how the Big 12 should handle adding Louisville:Offer an Immediate and Full Revenue Share: Louisville's primary motivation for leaving the ACC would be financial. The Big 12's per-school revenue is significantly higher. To lure them, the Big 12 should immediately offer a full share of its media rights revenue, sending a clear message that Louisville is a valued partner and not a second-tier addition. This would make the financial decision to pay the ACC exit fee much easier for Louisville's leadership.Emphasize Geographic Alignment: The Big 12 can sell Louisville on creating a much-needed "eastern pod" with West Virginia, Cincinnati, and UCF. The conference should highlight how this regional grouping would significantly reduce travel costs and logistical headaches for all sports, a major pain point for Louisville in the ACC and for WVU in the Big 12. This improved geography would make scheduling more manageable and potentially boost fan engagement for away games within the pod.Showcase the Athletic Benefit: The Big 12 can and should sell Louisville on the competitive upside.Basketball: The Big 12 is arguably the best men's basketball conference in the nation. Adding Louisville, with its rich basketball tradition and strong fanbase, would make the conference even more formidable and provide a huge platform for the Cardinals' program.Football: While Louisville's football has had ups and downs, the program has proven it can compete at a high level. They would be a competitive addition to the Big 12 and a strong rival for West Virginia, reviving a cherished Big East matchup.Make a Package Deal (if possible): The ideal scenario for the Big 12 would be to package Louisville with another ACC school, with Pitt being the most logical choice. A joint offer to both schools would be incredibly enticing. This would not only bring in two strong athletic brands but also permanently reunite the "Backyard Brawl" and further solidify the eastern pod. A package deal demonstrates the Big 12's commitment to building regional coherence, a key selling point for schools tired of coast-to-coast travel.Aggressive and Swift Action: The Big 12, under Brett Yormark, has a track record of being proactive. They should move quickly to secure Louisville (and Pitt, if possible) if a significant brand like North Carolina makes an initial move. Being the first to the table with a concrete and compelling offer is crucial in the high-stakes world of conference realignment.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYTime to fuel up and turn it up with 5-hour ENERGY®️ Transfusion! Ep 1303WOW: Rich Rodriguez is PERFECT for West Virginia, Goes On VIRAL RANT On Fixing College Football
West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez delivered a passionate and candid press conference on Thursday, July 31, 2025, following the team's second day of fall camp. His comments, which quickly went viral, touched on a variety of topics, from his team's performance to the broader state of college athletics and society at large. Here are the key takeaways from his "rant": "Softness" in Society and Athletes: The central theme of Rodriguez's comments was a belief that "we're softer as a society" and, by extension, "we're softer as athletes." He argued that modern players are constantly surrounded by a culture that tries to "make it easier for them" instead of challenging them to get through adversity. He said his job is to teach them to be "uncomfortable." A Practice to Forget: Rodriguez's frustration stemmed from a disappointing Day Two of practice, where he felt the team "didn't take great steps." He noted that only two of the team's running backs finished practice without having to tap out, a fact that seemed to particularly irk the head coach. The "Fantasy World" of College Athletics: In a moment of unfiltered honesty, Rodriguez described the lavish facilities and amenities available to today's college athletes and coaches. He pointed out the access to state-of-the-art buildings, free food, medical care, and even an "ice cream machine with sprinkles," concluding that they "live in a fantasy world." He contrasted this with the hard work and "weed pulling" that were once necessary to succeed. Threat to Use the Transfer Portal: Rodriguez delivered a thinly veiled threat to any players not meeting his standards. He noted that there were "still 4,000 kids in the portal" and that he had "a spot or two open," making it clear that he would not hesitate to make roster changes if a lack of toughness or effort persists. A Pattern of Tough Love: While the comments may have seemed out of the blue, reports from sources close to the program indicated that Rodriguez's wife, Rita, mentioned that he's "always like this the second day of practice," suggesting that this "tough love" approach is a deliberate part of his coaching style. In summary, Rich Rodriguez's press conference was a fiery call to action for his team, challenging them to reject the comforts of the modern era and embrace the mental and physical toughness required to win. Ep 1301NEW: Florida State, Clemson FOLLOWING NORTH CAROLINA OUT of ACC Is Ultimate Plan for New Realignment
The current college football landscape is dominated by the financial disparity between the SEC/Big Ten and the ACC. With reports indicating that North Carolina (UNC) is actively exploring a move to the SEC, primarily driven by the pursuit of significantly higher media rights revenue, it's almost a certainty that Florida State and Clemson would aggressively pursue an early exit from the ACC if UNC makes such a move. Here's why Florida State and Clemson would likely follow suit: Accelerated Financial Imperative: FSU and Clemson have been the most vocal critics of the ACC's financial model and its Grant of Rights (GOR) agreement, even going as far as to file lawsuits against the conference. Their primary motivation has always been to close the massive revenue gap between the ACC and the SEC/Big Ten. If UNC, a fellow blue-blood athletic and academic brand, were to successfully navigate an exit to the SEC, it would intensify the urgency for FSU and Clemson to follow suit. Weakening of the ACC Brand: The departure of UNC, especially if it goes to the SEC, would be a devastating blow to the ACC's brand and media value. UNC, FSU, and Clemson represent the ACC's most valuable football and basketball brands. Losing one of these pillars would significantly diminish the conference's appeal to broadcasters and its standing as a "Power Four" league, making the remaining financial outlook even bleaker for those left behind. Reduced Exit Fees as a Pathway: The recent settlement of the lawsuits between FSU, Clemson, and the ACC has provided a crucial pathway. It revealed that the ACC's exit fee, which was once considered prohibitive (estimated at over $500 million when accounting for forfeited media rights), is set to significantly decrease. By the 2030-31 school year, the exit fee will be a more "manageable" $75 million. This timing aligns with when the Big Ten and Big 12's media rights deals are also up for renegotiation, creating a perfect storm for further realignment. Seeking Top-Tier Competition and Exposure: Beyond money, FSU and Clemson want to compete consistently at the highest level of college football and basketball. Moving to the SEC or Big Ten would provide more consistent exposure against elite competition, which is vital for recruiting and national relevance, especially in the expanded College Football Playoff era. "Domino Effect" and Survival: Conference realignment is often a domino effect. If a foundational piece like UNC leaves, it creates immediate instability. Florida State and Clemson would be compelled to act quickly to secure their own futures in a top conference, rather than being left in a potentially weakened ACC. In short, if UNC makes the leap, Florida State and Clemson's departure from the ACC would likely shift from a desire to a necessity, driven by financial imperatives and the need to remain competitive in the evolving landscape of collegiate athletics. Ep 1300YIKES: Big 10, SEC Both DO NOT WANT MIAMI In Expansion, Big 12 Is Only Option After ACC Collapse
While Miami boasts a nationally recognized brand and a strong history of football success, both the SEC and Big Ten might hesitate to add the Hurricanes in future expansion due to several strategic and operational considerations. For the SEC:Market Overlap: The SEC already has a strong foothold in Florida with the Florida Gators. Adding Miami, though in a large media market, wouldn't necessarily deliver significant new and exclusive viewers or recruiting advantages that aren't already covered. It could lead to market saturation rather than true expansion.Gameday Experience: The SEC highly values vibrant, packed on-campus stadiums. Miami plays its home games at Hard Rock Stadium, a professional venue far from campus, which often struggles with consistent sellouts and lacks the traditional college gameday atmosphere characteristic of most SEC schools. This presents a cultural mismatch.Inconsistent Performance: Despite past glory, Miami's on-field football performance has been inconsistent for the better part of two decades. The SEC typically seeks programs with sustained elite performance or an undeniable present-day media draw, which Miami hasn't consistently provided recently. For the Big Ten:Geographic Distance and Travel: Despite recent westward expansion, Miami is still quite a geographical outlier for the Big Ten. This would significantly increase travel costs and logistical complexities for all sports, impacting student-athlete welfare.Academic Fit (Comparative): While Miami is a respectable academic institution and has recently gained AAU membership (a key Big Ten criterion), the Big Ten generally prioritizes large public research universities with a deep alignment to its academic mission. Other Florida options, like Florida State, might be seen as a better academic and athletic fit.Alternative Florida Targets: If the Big Ten were to expand into Florida, Florida State is often considered a more desirable target due to its larger statewide fanbase, more consistent recent football success, and a perceived better overall fit for the Big Ten's public university profile.Current Value vs. Historical Brand: The Big Ten's expansion strategy is driven by adding current media market value and large, engaged fanbases that translate directly to viewership. While Miami's brand is nationally recognized from past eras, the Big Ten may question if that history consistently converts into the immediate, substantial viewership increase they require to justify revenue dilution. In essence, while Miami's brand is valuable, the unique challenges of market overlap for the SEC and geographic/gameday/academic concerns for the Big Ten mean Miami is not likely at the top of their expansion wish lists compared to other highly sought-after ACC programs.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYTime to fuel up and turn it up with 5-hour ENERGY®️ Transfusion! Ep 1299BOOM: West Virginia Is MOST UNIQUE School in Big 12, Oklahoma, SEC Gets DUNKED ON By Wren Baker
West Virginia University Athletic Director Wren Baker has definitively denied recent speculation linking him to the open Athletic Director position at the University of Oklahoma, emphatically stating that there is "no truth" to the rumors. The rumors gained traction after longtime Oklahoma AD Joe Castiglione announced his retirement, and Baker's name quickly surfaced as a potential candidate due to his Oklahoma roots; he is a native of Valliant, Oklahoma, and earned his master's degree from Oklahoma State. However, Baker has consistently pushed back on the speculation. Speaking on the John Fredericks Radio Show and in interviews with various West Virginia media outlets, Baker made his position clear: No Interviews or Conversations: Baker stated, "There's no truth to any of the speculation or rumors at this point. This is like the fourth or fifth time since I've been here that people had me out the door. And not one time have I taken an interview or even had a conversation with anybody about another job." Family Happiness in West Virginia: He emphasized that he and his family are very happy living in Morgantown. "We love living here," Baker said. "It's a great place to live. I love the outdoors…more importantly, I have a wife and two daughters, and they're very happy here." Commitment to WVU: Baker reaffirmed his dedication to West Virginia University, stating, "I love being here. I feel like it's a privilege to be in this program, to represent this university, and more importantly, represent our state." He further explained that he generally doesn't address such rumors publicly, but felt compelled to speak directly to this instance. Recent Contract Extension: Further solidifying his commitment, WVU recently extended Baker's contract through 2032. This new deal, finalized in May 2024, adds two more years to his previous agreement and includes significant raises and retention bonuses, underscoring the university's desire to keep him. Baker's tenure at West Virginia, which began in November 2022, has been marked by significant activity, including navigating coaching changes (most notably, the hire of Rich Rodriguez for football) and steering the department through the complexities of the new Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) and revenue-sharing landscape. His success in these areas has undoubtedly raised his profile nationally, which is why his name frequently appears in discussions for high-profile athletic director openings. Despite the persistent "dot-connecting" from outsiders, Wren Baker's public statements and his recent contract extension clearly indicate his intention to remain in Morgantown and continue building the future of West Virginia Mountaineer athletics. Ep 1298BOMBSHELL: Deion Sanders CURED of Bladder Cancer, BUT Will Prime Coach Colorado Football This Fall?
Excellent news has just broken regarding Deion Sanders' health and his future at Colorado! In a highly anticipated press conference held today, Monday, July 28, 2025, alongside his medical team from CU Anschutz Medical Campus and UCHealth, Deion Sanders announced that he had been diagnosed with bladder cancer in April. However, the critical update is that he has since undergone bladder removal surgery, and his doctors confirmed that the cancer has been cured. This is a monumental development, as it directly addresses the "undisclosed illness" that had kept him away from Colorado's campus for much of spring and summer, fueling widespread speculation about his potential retirement. Despite having to draft a will due to the gravity of his health situation, Coach Prime is now confirmed to be cancer-free. Deion Sanders confirmed during the press conference that he plans to coach the Colorado Buffaloes during the upcoming 2025 college football season. This is a massive relief for Colorado fans and the Big 12 conference, as his charismatic leadership and the "Prime Effect" have brought unprecedented attention and energy to the program. His ability to return this fall is a testament to his resilience and the work of his medical team. While he acknowledged the process "wasn't easy," his positive outlook and commitment to the team are clear. This news puts to rest the retirement rumors that had gained significant traction in recent days, allowing Colorado to focus on the season ahead with their head coach firmly at the helm.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYTime to fuel up and turn it up with 5-hour ENERGY®️ Transfusion! Ep 1297WOW: Miami, Louisville LEAVING ACC TO JOIN BIG 12 After North Carolina's Exit to Join SEC is COMING!
Recent reports indicate that the University of North Carolina (UNC) is actively exploring a departure from the ACC, with the SEC as its primary target. This speculation has intensified following the recent settlement of lawsuits between the ACC, Florida State, and Clemson, which revealed a decreasing exit fee for schools. The exit fee is set to drop to a more "manageable" $75 million by the 2030-31 school year, a date that is seen as a key window for potential realignment.Should UNC indeed announce an attempt to leave the ACC, it is widely anticipated that this would trigger a significant ripple effect, leading other prominent ACC schools, including Louisville and Miami, to explore their options, with the Big 12 being a highly probable destination. Here's why Louisville and Miami are expected to explore joining the Big 12 in such a scenario:Financial Imperative: The driving force behind any realignment is almost always financial. The Big 12's current media rights deal, while not as lucrative as the SEC or Big Ten, offers significantly more revenue per school than the ACC's. As the revenue gap widens, schools like Louisville and Miami, which have strong athletic programs and significant fan bases, will be highly motivated to seek a conference that can provide greater financial stability and resources to compete in the evolving NIL and collegiate sports landscape.Decreasing Exit Fees: The reduced ACC exit fee by 2030-31 makes a move financially feasible. While still a substantial amount, it's far less prohibitive than the hundreds of millions initially discussed, allowing schools to justify the cost for a more lucrative future.Big 12's "Open for Business" Stance: Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark has been very aggressive and public about the conference's willingness to expand and innovate. The Big 12 has already demonstrated its ability to adapt and grow by adding former Pac-12 and AAC schools. They are actively looking for valuable additions that enhance their media markets and competitive profile.Attractive Athletic Programs:Miami: The Hurricanes bring a historically strong football brand and a significant media market in Florida. While their football program has been inconsistent, the potential to revitalize that brand within a financially stronger conference is appealing. South Florida is also a fertile recruiting ground that the Big 12 would love to tap into further (they already have UCF in Florida).Louisville: The Cardinals boast consistently competitive programs in both football and men's basketball, two key revenue-generating sports. Their basketball program, in particular, would further strengthen the Big 12's already elite basketball conference. Geographically, Louisville also provides a relative bridge for the Big 12's easternmost schools like West Virginia and Cincinnati.Maintaining "Power Conference" Status: If UNC, Florida State, and Clemson (who are also widely speculated to be looking at the SEC or Big Ten) were to leave the ACC, the remaining ACC schools would face a significant downgrade in perceived "power conference" status. Joining the Big 12 would allow Louisville and Miami to remain in a strong, stable, and financially competitive league, ensuring their long-term viability at the highest level of college athletics. While no official announcements have been made by Louisville or Miami regarding their intentions to leave the ACC after a hypothetical UNC departure, the current realignment climate and the financial incentives strongly suggest that such moves would be actively explored if the ACC's top brands begin to exit.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYTime to fuel up and turn it up with 5-hour ENERGY®️ Transfusion! Ep 1295HUH: Is Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints MAD at BYU for Ryder Lyons' MASSIVE NIL Deal?
When discussing how much five-star quarterback Ryder Lyons is "being paid" (referring to his Name, Image, and Likeness or NIL valuation), it's important to understand a few things:NIL Valuations vs. Actual Deals: Recruiting services like On3 provide an "NIL Valuation" for top recruits. This is an estimated annual value of their NIL based on factors like social media following, on-field performance, perceived marketability, and the NIL landscape. It's not necessarily the exact amount of money a player is guaranteed to receive from a specific deal or collective. Ryder Lyons' On3 NIL Valuation: As of late June 2025, Ryder Lyons holds a $785,000 On3 NIL valuation. This places him among the top prospects nationally in terms of his potential earning power through NIL. His Comments on NIL: Interestingly, despite his high valuation and the fact that he received numerous offers from major programs known for their substantial NIL backing (like USC and Oregon), Lyons himself has stated that NIL money was not the primary driver of his decision to commit to BYU. During an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" after his commitment, Lyons acknowledged the complexity of NIL: "It's hard," he said of his recruitment and NIL offers. "It's hard for sure. I do have someone who handles it for me. I have an agent. I have a whole team. But it definitely makes it just confusing. I mean, you're thrown a lot of money from a lot of different places." However, he emphasized that his long-term goal is to make it to the NFL, "because that's where the serious money is." BYU's NIL Approach (Less Transparent but Effective): BYU, as a private university, is less transparent about its NIL efforts. However, their ability to secure commitments from high-profile recruits like Lyons (and previously five-star men's basketball prospect A.J. Dybantsa) suggests that their collective (Royal Blue NIL) is competitive and effective, even if they don't publicly disclose specific deal amounts. Lyons' decision indicates that BYU's unique cultural fit, early belief in him (they were his first offer), strong quarterback development history, and his own LDS faith and mission plans outweighed potential higher NIL offers from other schools. In summary, while Ryder Lyons has a significant estimated NIL valuation and clearly received substantial offers from various programs, he has personally downplayed the role of NIL money in his commitment to BYU, suggesting other factors were more important to him. Ep 1294HUGE: Big 12 REJECTING Memphis Just Exposed ACC OFFICIALLY COLLAPSING | Realignment, Expansion News
The Big 12 is eyeing the 2030-2031 timeframe as a potential window to "steal" schools from the ACC due to the evolving dynamics of the ACC's Grant of Rights (GOR) and media deal. While the ACC's primary media rights deal with ESPN runs through 2036, recent developments indicate a potential softening of the exit fees for member institutions. Here's why the Big 12 could make a move in that period:Decreasing Exit Fees: The ACC's exit fee, which was initially estimated to be in the hundreds of millions, is reportedly set to decrease. Court documents from lawsuits between Florida State, Clemson, and the ACC have revealed details about this. The exit fee is expected to level off at $75 million in 2030-31. This significantly lower figure makes leaving the conference a more financially palatable decision for schools looking to maximize their revenue.Alignment with Other Media Rights Negotiations: The 2030-31 timeframe is crucial because it aligns with when the Big Ten and Big 12's current media rights deals are also up for renegotiation. The SEC's deal runs through 2034, but there's a possibility of an early look-in. This means that the Big 12 would be entering a new media rights negotiation cycle potentially with a stronger, expanded footprint, which could increase its overall value.ACC Schools Seeking Higher Revenue: Schools like Florida State and Clemson have been vocal about the financial disparity between their ACC revenue shares and those of the Big Ten and SEC. Even with the ACC's new revenue distribution policies that include performance incentives, the gap is expected to widen. The prospect of earning significantly more money in the Big 12 (or SEC/Big Ten) would be a powerful motivator for these schools once their exit fees become more manageable.Strategic Expansion for the Big 12: Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark has consistently stated that the conference is "open for business" and is looking for opportunities to grow and innovate. Poaching established ACC programs would enhance the Big 12's geographic reach, potentially adding valuable media markets and strong athletic brands in both football and basketball. Schools like Miami, Louisville, and Pittsburgh have been mentioned as potential targets due to their strong athletic programs and strategic locations.ACC Instability: The ongoing lawsuits and public discontent from some ACC members regarding the GOR and revenue distribution create an environment of instability. This internal strife within the ACC could make it more vulnerable to raids when the financial penalties for departure become less prohibitive. In essence, the combination of a more accessible exit fee from the ACC, the timing of other major conference media rights negotiations, and the Big 12's aggressive expansion strategy creates a fertile ground for potential realignment in the early 2030s.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!GametimeToday's episode is brought to you by Gametime. Ep 1296BREAKING: North Carolina JOINING SEC, KILLING ACC As Clemson, Florida State Follow Is Now VERY REAL!
UNC Exploring Potential Move to SEC: What You Need to Know Recent reports, notably from Inside Carolina and corroborated by outlets like ESPN and On3, suggest that the University of North Carolina is actively looking to depart the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and has the SEC as its primary target for future conference alignment. This comes amid ongoing conference realignment discussions and legal battles within the ACC. Why UNC Would Want to Join the SEC: Financial Imperative: This is the overwhelming driving factor. The SEC's media rights deals offer significantly higher annual payouts to its member institutions compared to the ACC. UNC, like many other ACC schools, is seeking to maximize its revenue to remain competitive in the evolving landscape of college athletics, particularly with the escalating costs of NIL and overall program investment. Reports indicate the ACC's exit fees are currently around $165 million, but are set to drop to a more "manageable" $75 million by the 2030-31 school year, which is seen as a key target date. Strategic Positioning: UNC wants to ensure its long-term stability and competitiveness in a "power conference." The SEC, along with the Big Ten, is widely considered one of the two dominant conferences in college sports, particularly in football. Leadership's Vision: Under Chancellor Lee Roberts and incoming Athletic Director Steve Newmark, there's a reported strategic push to position UNC for this kind of move. UNC's leadership is also said to have played a key role behind the scenes in negotiating the recent settlement between the ACC, Clemson, and Florida State, which has potentially made it easier for schools to explore departure pathways. The "Belichick Effect": While directly unrelated to conference alignment, the recent hiring of legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick for the UNC football program has generated unprecedented excitement and ticket sales, with all home games reportedly sold out for the upcoming season. This heightened profile could align with a desire for a more prominent conference stage. Why the SEC Would Want UNC: Basketball Blue Blood: UNC is one of college basketball's most iconic and successful programs, a true "blue blood" of the sport. Adding UNC would significantly elevate the SEC's already strong basketball profile, giving it another national brand alongside Kentucky. Valuable Media Market: North Carolina is a large and growing media market. Bringing UNC into the SEC would expand the conference's geographic footprint and deliver a new, significant audience to its media partners. It's noteworthy that the SEC Network headquarters are located in Charlotte, North Carolina, making the state a natural fit. Academic Profile: UNC is a highly respected academic institution, which is often a factor that appeals to conferences like the SEC (and Big Ten) when considering expansion, as it can enhance the overall academic prestige of the league. Competitive Balance (Football): While UNC is known more for basketball, its football program has shown flashes of strong performance and has a national following. While not an immediate football powerhouse like some SEC stalwarts, it offers a solid program in a new territory. Challenges and Timeline: ACC Grant of Rights & Exit Fees: The ACC's grant of rights agreement historically tied schools to the conference's media deal until 2036, making departures incredibly costly. While recent legal settlements might have eased some of these constraints, the exit fees remain substantial in the short term. The 2030-31 academic year, when the buyout reportedly drops to $75 million, is often cited as a more realistic window for a potential move. SEC's Current Stance: SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey has stated that the conference is content with its current 16 members (after adding Texas and Oklahoma). This suggests that any further expansion would not be immediate and would likely be driven by significant strategic advantages. Other ACC Schools: UNC is reportedly not alone in its exploration; Clemson and Florida State have been publicly battling the ACC over similar issues. It's possible that any future realignment involving UNC could be part of a larger move involving multiple ACC institutions. In conclusion, the desire for increased revenue and competitive stability is strongly motivating UNC to explore a move to the SEC. While the timeline is uncertain and significant financial hurdles remain, UNC's strong brand, particularly in basketball, and its valuable media market make it an attractive target for the SEC should the conference decide to expand further in the future. Ep 1292WOW: ESPN's Paul Finebaum BLASTS Deion Sanders, Tells Him "Stick to Coaching," More Prime Disrespect
Paul Finebaum, a prominent ESPN analyst and a well-known voice in SEC football, recently offered blunt advice to Colorado head coach Deion Sanders: "stick to coaching." This came after Sanders' remarks at Big 12 Media Days where he called for a college football salary cap to address the escalating Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) spending. Finebaum's comments, delivered on ESPN's "Get Up," highlighted several points of contention:Hypocrisy Perception: Finebaum suggested that Sanders' stance on a salary cap was self-serving and ironic, especially given that Colorado's success in 2024 was heavily reliant on high-profile transfers like his son Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, who reportedly commanded significant NIL deals. Finebaum questioned if Sanders would have advocated for a cap when those "generational" talents were being lured to Boulder. Changing Narratives: Finebaum accused Sanders of changing his narrative depending on his team's roster. With Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter now heading to the NFL, Finebaum implied that Deion's focus shifted from attracting top NIL earners to wanting to limit spending, which might benefit Colorado more in the current transfer landscape.Bigger Problems: Finebaum argued that college football has "more basic problems" to solve than implementing a salary cap, suggesting that Sanders should focus on building his team and winning games rather than trying to shape policy for the entire sport. He essentially told Sanders to "let the college football leaders screw up the game the way they have already.""Politician" Label: Finebaum went as far as to call Sanders a "politician," suggesting his comments were calculated rather than purely driven by a desire for fairness. This isn't the first time Finebaum has been critical of Sanders' outspoken nature or his methods. Finebaum's "stick to coaching" message underscores the ongoing tension between Deion Sanders' high-profile, often unconventional approach to coaching and the traditional media's expectations of how college football coaches should operate, particularly as the sport navigates its evolving business side. Ep 1291BOMBSHELL: Big 12 RECONSIDERING ADDING MEMPHIS After LANDMARK No-Risk Clause Is Good Idea After All?
While the Big 12 has recently shown disinterest in adding Memphis, despite a highly aggressive and financially substantial proposal, there are indeed arguments for why it would be a smart move for the conference. These arguments often revolve around market penetration, competitive upside, and financial innovation, even if the current conference leadership isn't swayed. Here's why some believe adding Memphis would be a smart play for the Big 12:Massive Financial Incentive & "No-Risk" Proposition: Memphis has made an unprecedented offer, reportedly between $200 million and $250 million in sponsorship commitments from corporate partners like FedEx, Lowe's, and AutoZone. Crucially, they also offered to forgo any revenue distribution from the Big 12 for at least five years. This is presented as a "no-risk" concept: the Big 12 gains significant immediate revenue and corporate partnerships without diluting the existing schools' media rights payouts during the current deal. There was even a reported clause allowing the Big 12 to expel Memphis after 2030 if they weren't adding value.Significant Media Market & Corporate Hub: Memphis is the largest city in Tennessee and a significant media market without an NFL team, meaning college football and basketball hold considerable sway. Its corporate ties, particularly with FedEx (a global logistics giant), offer unique opportunities for conference-wide sponsorships, potentially including naming rights for conference events or even the league itself in the future. This aligns with Commissioner Brett Yormark's stated goal of exploring new revenue streams and global partnerships.Strong Athletic Programs (Basketball & Football):Basketball: Memphis has a rich basketball tradition with a consistently competitive program, a strong fanbase, and plays in an NBA arena (FedExForum). Adding them would undoubtedly bolster the Big 12's already elite basketball conference.Football: While not a consistent national title contender, the football program has achieved significant success in the Group of Five, with multiple 10-win seasons in recent years. They've shown the ability to develop talent and can be a competitive addition to the league. They also play in a former NFL stadium (Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium) which has seen recent renovations.Geographic Bridge & Recruiting Footprint: Adding Memphis would establish a clearer geographic bridge between the western Big 12 schools (like Houston and UCF) and potentially provide a stronger foothold in the Mid-South for recruiting. This region is rich in athletic talent, and having a Big 12 presence there could enhance recruiting for other conference members as well.Setting a Precedent for Future Expansion: Memphis's aggressive financial offer could set a new precedent for how conferences consider expansion. In an era where media rights are paramount, a school willing to "buy its way in" with substantial, guaranteed corporate revenue, rather than relying solely on perceived media value, presents a unique model. While the Big 12 has rejected it for now, the innovative nature of the proposal might be something that future "Power" conferences consider if the landscape continues to evolve towards a Super League model.Despite these potential benefits, the Big 12 has, for now, decided against adding Memphis, citing that the proposal did not garner enough support from the existing member institutions. Their reasoning has been that Memphis was vetted previously when Cincinnati, Houston, UCF, and BYU were added, and not much has changed to make them a more attractive addition now, at least from the perspective of their current valuation.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!GametimeToday's episode is brought to you by Gametime. Ep 1290BREAKING: Memphis GIVING BIG 12 $250 MILLION to Exit American, But Realignment BOMBSHELL Won't Last?
Memphis has made an incredibly aggressive and financially substantial push to join the Big 12 Conference, but as of today, Monday, July 21, 2025, they have reportedly been rejected or do not have enough support from the Big 12.Here's what you need to know about Memphis's efforts and the Big 12's response: Memphis's Offer to the Big 12: Massive Financial Commitment: Memphis has reportedly made a proposal worth over $200 million, potentially as high as $250 million, to the Big 12. This is one of the most aggressive and financially significant membership propositions in college athletics history. Structured Payments & Sponsorships: The proposal includes:Forgoing Revenue Distribution: Memphis would reportedly agree to take zero revenue distribution from the Big 12 for at least the first five years (similar to SMU's deal with the ACC). Corporate Sponsorships: The offer includes substantial sponsorship commitments from UM-affiliated corporate partners, such as FedEx, Lowes, and AutoZone. These sponsorships could add as much as $3 million annually to each Big 12 school's coffers.FedEx Involvement: There were specific mentions of a plan for FedEx to sponsor the conference and its championship game, leveraging the company's strong ties to Memphis. Long-Term Strategy: Memphis president Bill Hardgrave has reportedly spent over a year meeting individually with presidents and athletic administrators of many Big 12 schools to build support for their bid. "No-Risk" Concept: Memphis is presenting this as a "no-risk" concept for the Big 12, given the significant financial guarantees and the willingness to forgo revenue sharing initially.Expulsion Clause: Interestingly, the proposal also reportedly includes a clause where Memphis would subject itself to expulsion after 2030 if the Big 12 deems it is not adding value. This highlights Memphis's determination to prove its worth. Big 12's Response and Current Status: Lack of Support (Reported Rejection): Despite the lucrative offer, multiple reports indicate that the Big 12 is currently "not interested" in adding Memphis or that Memphis does not have enough Big 12 support for the move. Super Majority Requirement: Any expansion move in the Big 12 requires the support of a super majority of the league's presidents and chancellors, which is 12 out of the 16 current schools. It appears Memphis has not been able to secure this level of consensus. Previous Expansion Strategy: The Big 12 has recently undergone significant expansion, adding BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, UCF, and later Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah. The conference appears to be content with its current 16 members for now and is not willing to let a checkbook alone dictate its next move.Value Beyond Money: The Big 12 has demonstrated that while money is important, it also values factors like overall fit, long-term upside, and broader visibility in its expansion decisions. Memphis Remains in the AAC: For now, Memphis remains in the American Athletic Conference (AAC). Why Memphis is So Eager to Join a Power Conference: Financial Security: Joining a Power Four conference (Big Ten, SEC, Big 12, ACC) would provide Memphis with significantly higher media rights revenue, ensuring long-term financial stability for its athletic department.Increased Exposure: Competing in a higher-profile conference would provide more national television exposure for its athletic programs, especially football and basketball.Recruiting Advantage: Being a "Power Four" school is a significant draw for top recruits across all sports.Prestige and Legitimacy: Membership in a top conference offers a level of prestige and validates the athletic programs, which have seen considerable success at the Group of Five level.Strong Athletic Department: Memphis has a history of strong basketball and a growing football program, with recent consecutive double-digit win seasons under coach Ryan Silverfield. They are often considered one of the strongest athletic departments outside the current Power Four. Media Market & Corporate Ties: Memphis is a significant media market, and the university's strong ties to major corporations like FedEx (headquartered in Memphis) are a unique asset they hope to leverage. In summary, Memphis has pulled out all the stops with an unprecedented financial offer to secure a Big 12 invitation, but the current consensus within the Big 12 appears to be a "no" for now. This highlights the intensely competitive nature of conference realignment and the complex factors beyond just money that influence these decisions.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!GametimeToday's episode is brought to you by Gametime. Ep 1286BOOM: Baylor, BYU, Texas Tech Are BLOWING OUT THE SEC In Recruiting, College Football HUGE In Big 12
The 2026 recruiting cycle is still relatively early, but BYU, Texas Tech, and Baylor have indeed made some impressive waves, showing a strong surge in their recruiting efforts. It highlights the impact of their new Power Four conference affiliation and aggressive strategies under their respective coaching staffs. Here's a look at why their 2026 classes are generating so much excitement: BYU Cougars BYU's 2026 class is shaping up to be one of the best in program history, a significant leap for a program that often hovered outside the top 50 in recruiting rankings. As of mid-July 2025, BYU's class has been highly ranked nationally, even briefly reaching the No. 1 spot in the Big 12. Key highlights and reasons for their success:Elite Talent: The class is headlined by five-star quarterback Ryder Lyons (Folsom, CA), a massive get for the Cougars. They've also secured commitments from highly-rated in-state talents like four-star tight end Brock Harris (Pine View, UT) and four-star offensive lineman Bott Mulitalo (Lone Peak, UT). National Reach: While traditionally strong in Utah, BYU is expanding its reach, landing commitments from players in Arkansas (LB Braxton Lindsey) and Oklahoma (DL Nehemiah Kolone), among other states, often beating out other Power Four programs. Jay Hill's Impact: Defensive coordinator Jay Hill has been credited with the significant improvement in recruiting, noting that being a Power Four program has made a "world of difference."Consistency: The Cougars have accumulated a solid number of commitments early in the cycle, with many highly-rated three-star prospects and several four-stars, signaling a consistent ability to attract talent. Texas Tech Red Raiders Texas Tech has also been on an incredible run in 2026 recruiting, demonstrating the impact of a strong NIL program and Coach Joey McGuire's relentless approach. They have also held the No. 1 spot in the Big 12 recruiting rankings at points. Factors contributing to their strong class:Five-Star Anchor: A huge commitment from five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo (Mansfield Lake Ridge, TX) immediately elevated their class to an elite level. This is the type of blue-chip talent that can transform a program.Beating Out Powerhouses: Texas Tech has reportedly beaten out traditional giants like Ohio State, Texas, Notre Dame, and Michigan for some of their elite prospects, showcasing their growing appeal and resources.Depth of Talent: Beyond Ojo, they've secured commitments from multiple four-star prospects, including running back Ace Rowden and safety Donovan Webb, along with a strong contingent of highly-rated three-star players, particularly from the talent-rich state of Texas.NIL Prowess: Reports suggest that Texas Tech's NIL program is among the most competitive in the country, playing a significant role in their ability to attract and secure top talent. Baylor Bears Baylor has shown strong momentum in the 2026 class, particularly with a flurry of recent commitments that have propelled them up the Big 12 and national rankings. Key aspects of their strong recruiting:Blue-Chip Additions: Baylor has landed commitments from several four-star prospects, including defensive lineman Jamarion Carlton (Temple, TX) and wide receiver Jordan Clay (San Antonio, TX). They also recently secured a commitment from four-star safety Jordan Deck. Local Focus: The Bears have been effective in locking down talent from their strong recruiting grounds in Texas, with several key commitments coming from within the state.Consistent Flow: Baylor has been steadily adding commitments, showcasing a consistent effort from the coaching staff to build out their class early. Recent weeks have seen a surge in pledges, indicating strong momentum. Overall, the early success of BYU, Texas Tech, and Baylor in the 2026 recruiting cycle is a clear signal of the shifting landscape in college football, particularly within the newly expanded Big 12. These programs are leveraging their conference affiliation, coaching stability, and, importantly, the opportunities presented by NIL to compete for and win battles against traditional recruiting powerhouses. It promises to make the Big 12 even more competitive in the coming years. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!GametimeToday's episode is brought to you by Gametime. Ep 1287EXPOSED: Rivals Found TAMPERING With BYU, Baylor, Big 12 Recruiting Rankings, CFP Odds ON THE LINE!
The assertion that Rivals (and other recruiting services) "dilute" Big 12 recruits' rankings after they commit to schools like BYU and Baylor is a common sentiment among fan bases outside of the traditional recruiting powerhouses (SEC, Big Ten, and increasingly, ACC). While "dilution" might be a strong word, the perception stems from a few factors inherent in how recruiting services operate and the biases that can exist, even if unintentional. Here's a breakdown of the perceived issue:1. The "Big Board" vs. "Commitment" Bump/Drop:Initial Evaluation: Recruiting services like Rivals, 247Sports, and On3 create initial rankings based on film, camp performances, and in-person evaluations. These are often considered a "pure" assessment of talent. The "Blue Blood" Effect: There's a widely acknowledged, though often denied, phenomenon where prospects who commit to traditional powerhouses (e.g., Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, USC, Notre Dame) sometimes see a slight bump in their ranking or are less likely to see a significant drop. The rationale, from the services' perspective, is that if these elite programs are investing heavily in a player, it validates their talent, as those programs have a strong track record of identifying NFL-caliber players. The Perceived "Big 12/Non-Blue Blood" Effect: Conversely, when a highly-rated prospect commits to a Big 12 school, or a school traditionally not in the top tier of recruiting (like BYU or Baylor, despite their recent successes), there can be a perception that their ranking either stagnates or even slightly drops. Fans interpret this as the services doubting the player's true potential now that they're not going to a perceived "NFL factory." The argument is that the lower-tier program doesn't "validate" the player's talent in the same way, or that the services' scouts subconsciously put less stock in a player heading to a perceived lesser conference.2. Focus on Exposure and Camps:Rivals, in particular, has a strong emphasis on their camp series (Rivals Five-Star Challenge, etc.) for evaluations. Players who attend and perform well at these national events tend to maintain or improve their rankings. If a player commits early to a school that doesn't push them to attend such events, or if the player isn't actively seeking that kind of exposure after committing, their ranking might not get the same re-evaluation bumps that uncommitted or "blue blood" committed players might.3. The "Composite" Factor and Individual Service Differences:It's important to remember that most discussion around "star ratings" often refers to the Composite ranking (e.g., 247Sports Composite), which aggregates rankings from multiple services (Rivals, 247Sports, ESPN). A perceived drop by Rivals might be offset by another service, or vice versa. Each service has its own methodology. Rivals, for instance, has been criticized in the past for putting more emphasis on camps, while 247Sports might lean more on film. These different approaches can lead to disparities.4. The "Under-Evaluation" Argument for Big 12 Programs:Many Big 12 fans argue that their schools, especially those with unique recruiting strategies (like BYU with its mission-first approach, or Texas Tech/Baylor with strong regional ties and developing NIL programs), often find and develop talent that recruiting services might initially overlook or under-rate. When these players go on to succeed at the collegiate level, it reinforces the perception that the services might have initially "missed" on their true potential, perhaps due to a bias towards more traditional pipelines. In the specific context of BYU and Baylor's recent 2026 recruiting success: Both programs have landed highly-rated recruits, including five-stars for BYU (Ryder Lyons) and Texas Tech (Felix Ojo), and multiple four-stars for Baylor. If any of these players see a decline in their ranking after commitment, despite continued strong performance, it will undoubtedly fuel these "dilution" concerns among their respective fanbases. The hope for these programs is that their new Power Four status will eventually translate into consistent, higher evaluations for their recruits from all services.Ultimately, while recruiting services strive for objectivity, the human element in evaluation, combined with the weight given to "blue blood" programs and national exposure, can lead to the perception (and sometimes reality) of certain conferences or schools seeing their committed recruits evaluated differently.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!GametimeToday's episode is brought to you by Gametime. Ep 1285WOW: Utah Football Player Claims BYU Is TAMPERING with Big 12 Players BEFORE The Go Transfer Portal
Utah Utes defensive back Smith Snowden found himself at the center of intense speculation regarding potential tampering by BYU, particularly concerning Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) offers, as the transfer portal period opened. These rumors were widely discussed on various fan forums and local sports talk radio, especially given the intense "Holy War" rivalry between the two programs. While official comments from Snowden himself directly addressing specific tampering allegations have been limited, his actions and subsequent social media posts spoke volumes. After significant buzz about large NIL offers from BYU, Snowden ultimately reaffirmed his commitment to the Utah Utes.In April 2025, amidst the swirling rumors, Smith Snowden posted a message on social media that read: "The pride and tradition of the Utah Utes will never be entrusted to the timid or the weak. Go Utes." This public declaration was widely interpreted as a direct response to the rumors and a strong commitment to staying with the Utes, despite any outside influences or offers. This situation highlights several key aspects of the current college football landscape:The Wild West of the Transfer Portal and NIL: The NCAA's current framework for the transfer portal and NIL has created a very fluid environment where allegations of tampering are common. While direct evidence is often scarce, the intense competition for talent, coupled with significant NIL opportunities, fuels speculation. The Intensity of the Utah-BYU Rivalry: The "Holy War" ensures that any player movement, especially between the two programs, is scrutinized heavily and often leads to accusations and counter-accusations from both fan bases. The idea of a Utah player, particularly a promising local talent like Snowden, transferring to BYU for NIL money ignited a fierce debate.Player Agency and Decisions: Ultimately, the decision rests with the student-athlete. While external factors like NIL offers undoubtedly play a role, players also weigh factors like fit within the program, coaching relationships, academic pursuits, and potential for NFL development. Snowden's decision to remain at Utah suggests that, for him, the overall package offered by the Utes outweighed any potential offers from their rival. While no formal NCAA ruling on tampering was publicly announced regarding Snowden's situation, his public commitment to Utah served as a powerful statement in the midst of a highly charged rivalry.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!GametimeToday's episode is brought to you by Gametime. Ep 1283Brett Yormark's BOLD Big 12 Media Days Take AND How LDS Faith at BYU Impacts League
Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark has consistently emphasized that the "Big 12 is open for business," a mantra he first declared at his introductory press conference in July 2022 and has continued to reiterate, most recently at the 2025 Big 12 Media Days. This isn't just a catchy phrase; it represents a comprehensive and aggressive strategy to elevate the conference's profile, financial standing, and global reach in a rapidly evolving college athletics landscape. Here's what "open for business" truly signifies for the Big 12 under Yormark's leadership:Beyond Realignment – Monetizing Opportunities: While expansion (such as the recent additions of Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah) has been a significant part of the Big 12's recent past, Yormark's "open for business" philosophy extends far beyond merely adding new members. It's about actively monetizing every possible opportunity for the conference and its institutions. This includes:Diversifying Partnerships: The Big 12 has actively pursued new sponsorship deals, bringing marketing and sponsorship sales in-house, and forming partnerships with major brands like WWE and Microsoft.Innovation in Revenue Models: Yormark is exploring novel revenue streams that other Power Four conferences might shy away from, such as naming rights for conference assets, exploring private equity investment, and even considering uniform patches. He's determined to be at the "cutting edge" of commercialization in college athletics.Global Expansion: A key part of the "open for business" strategy is to make the Big 12 a global brand. The conference has already scheduled football games in Dublin, Ireland (Kansas State vs. Iowa State in 2025, TCU vs. North Carolina in 2026), and has plans for women's basketball in Paris and potential baseball games in Mexico City. Yormark sees these international ventures as crucial "impetus" for future global engagement, believing the Big 12 can "win globally big time."Strategic Positioning for Long-Term Relevance: Yormark's vision is about securing the Big 12's long-term relevance and financial health in a landscape increasingly dominated by the SEC and Big Ten. He wants the Big 12 to be consistently part of the "conversation at the highest levels" of college athletics. His proactive approach, including securing a new media rights deal early (a six-year, $2.28 billion deal with Fox and ESPN), has helped stabilize the conference and position it favorably.Confidence in Competitive Depth: Despite facing skepticism about its standing among the "Power Four," Yormark consistently expresses strong belief in the Big 12's competitive balance, proclaiming it will be the "deepest football conference in America." He ties this to his advocacy for the "5+11" College Football Playoff model, which he believes allows teams to "earn it on the field" and will enable multiple Big 12 teams to earn playoff bids annually. He sees this as a defense against a "professional model" that might guarantee more spots to other conferences. In essence, Brett Yormark's "Big 12 is open for business" declaration is a statement of intent: the conference is not content to merely exist; it is actively pursuing growth, seeking out new opportunities, and aggressively positioning itself as a modern, market-savvy powerhouse in college sports.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!GametimeToday's episode is brought to you by Gametime. Ep 1284PER THE ATHLETIC: BYU, Utah is NOT A RIVALRY and Holy War is MEANINGLESS to College Football, Big 12
The Athletic, a prominent sports media outlet, recently released a ranking of the top 100 rivalries in college football. Much to the potential dismay of fans of the Utah Utes and BYU Cougars, the "Holy War" did not land within the top 25 of this list. While the exact ranking for the Holy War varies across different articles and lists from The Athletic, it generally falls outside the elite tier. For instance, in a list compiled by Scott Dochterman of The Athletic, the Utah-BYU game was ranked as the No. 28 best rivalry game in the country, sandwiched between Stanford-Cal (No. 29) and Oregon-Oregon State (No. 27). It's worth noting that The Athletic also published a separate ranking specifically for the "best rivalry names," where "Holy War" fared much better, coming in at No. 4 on Chris Vannini's list. This highlights the recognition of the rivalry's unique and impactful moniker, even if its on-field intensity or historical prominence in the national conversation didn't place it among the very top rivalries in college football. The general sentiment for rivalries ranked outside the top 25, including the Holy War, often points to a lack of consistent national championship contention from both programs over the past several decades, compared to perennial powerhouses like Michigan-Ohio State or Alabama-Auburn. Despite this, the Holy War remains a deeply significant and passionate rivalry for fans in Utah, fueled by proximity, cultural differences, and a long history of intense matchups. Ep 1282WILD: BYU's Kalani Sitake Has INSANE Idea That Could KILL COLLEGE FOOTBALL, SEC, Big 10, ACC Games
BYU Head Coach Kalani Sitake has publicly expressed his desire for college football teams, particularly those in the newly formed "Power Four" conferences, to schedule multiple non-conference games against each other. Speaking at Big 12 Media Days, Sitake issued a challenge, stating: "We play three non-conference games. I would love to play an ACC team, an SEC team, and a Big Ten team. Line 'em up; let's do this. Why can't we do that?"Sitake's position aligns with the sentiment of "let's settle it on the field," a philosophy he shares with Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark, who advocates for a 5+11 College Football Playoff model (five automatic qualifiers and eleven at-large bids). For Sitake, this aggressive non-conference scheduling offers several benefits:Boost Strength of Schedule: Playing consistently tough opponents from other Power Four conferences would significantly enhance a team's strength of schedule, which is a crucial factor in College Football Playoff rankings and overall national perception.Attract Elite Recruits: High-profile matchups against top-tier programs are a powerful recruiting tool, demonstrating a program's commitment to competing at the highest level.Fan Engagement: These "must-watch" matchups early in the season would generate immense fan interest and excitement.National Legitimacy: For a program like BYU, which recently joined the Big 12, consistently facing and performing well against established Power Four teams helps build national legitimacy and respect. Sitake believes this would "show everyone who is legit, and who's playing make-believe."Sitake isn't simply "talking smoke"; he has made it clear he's prepared to back up his words with results on the field. This strategic approach aims to elevate BYU's profile and ensure the Cougars are consistently challenging themselves against the best in college football.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!GametimeToday's episode is brought to you by Gametime. Ep 1280BOMBSHELL: Brett Yormark DESTROYS SEC, Big 10 at Media Days, DENIES College Football Playoff Model
Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark is a strong and consistent advocate for the "5+11" model for the future of the College Football Playoff (CFP). He has reiterated this stance, including at recent Big 12 Media Days, as discussions continue about expanding the playoff to 16 teams, which is anticipated by 2026. The 5+11 model, for a 16-team playoff, would feature:Five automatic qualifiers (AQs): These spots would be given to the champions of the five highest-ranked conferences. This typically means the champions from the "Power Four" conferences (SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, ACC) and the highest-ranked champion from the "Group of Five" conferences. Eleven at-large bids: The remaining 11 spots would be awarded to the next highest-ranked teams in the country, irrespective of their conference affiliation. Yormark, often aligned with the ACC, champions this model for several reasons:"Earn it on the field": He firmly believes in a merit-based system where teams earn their playoff spots through their performance, rather than through pre-determined conference allocations. Yormark argues that this approach protects the unique essence of college football and distinguishes it from a "professional model" like the NFL. Fairness and equity: Yormark views the 5+11 model as a more equitable solution compared to other proposals, such as one favored by the SEC and Big Ten that would grant their conferences more guaranteed automatic bids (e.g., a 4-4-2-2 model). While he acknowledges that the 5+11 model might not always immediately benefit the Big 12, he sees it as the correct long-term strategy for the sport and his conference's growth.Confidence in Big 12 competitiveness: Despite shifts in conference alignments, Yormark is confident in the Big 12's depth and believes its teams can consistently earn multiple at-large bids under a 5+11 system. He highlights the parity within the Big 12 and expects its top teams to compete for playoff berths. He has stated he "fully expect[s] the Big 12 to earn multiple College Football Playoff bids this year." Modernizing the selection process: Yormark has noted that a "full audit" of the CFP selection process is underway to modernize how teams are chosen, incorporating new metrics and data. He trusts the selection committee to fairly evaluate teams under the 5+11 model. In essence, Yormark's advocacy for the 5+11 model reflects his vision for a competitive, merit-driven college football landscape where the Big 12 can secure its place among the sport's elite by performing on the field.Sources Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 1279NEW: BYU's Kalani Sitake FIRES BACK At Texas Tech's Joey McGuire On Focus Of Athlete Employment
The landscape of college football has undeniably transformed, with Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities and the ubiquitous transfer portal pushing the sport closer than ever to a professional model. For many, the lines are blurring: is playing college football still an amateur pursuit, or has it become, for all intents and purposes, a job? The arguments for it being a "job" are compelling. Athletes now sign lucrative NIL deals, sometimes worth hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars. The transfer portal allows players to seek better financial opportunities, playing time, or a more favorable "fit," mimicking free agency in professional leagues. The time commitment for top-tier college football players is immense, often exceeding that of a full-time job, with year-round training, practices, film study, and travel. When a player can earn significant income and change employers (schools) with relative ease, the "amateur" label feels increasingly anachronistic. Yet, amidst this rapid professionalization, BYU Head Coach Kalani Sitake stands as a voice for a different perspective. While acknowledging the irreversible changes ("the toothpaste is out of the tube," he's famously said), Sitake consistently emphasizes that college football, particularly at BYU, is about more than just money or individual gain. Sitake's philosophy centers on the holistic development of the "student-athlete." He views his role as helping young men transition into adulthood, focusing not just on on-field performance but also on education, financial literacy, and personal growth. He questions whether simply paying athletes more money is the sole solution, advocating instead for a structure that prioritizes long-term well-being and the value of a degree. The unique aspect of BYU's program, with players often serving two-year missions, further reinforces a sense of commitment that transcends immediate financial incentives. While the transfer portal offers players freedom, Sitake also expresses a desire for more structure to prevent constant movement, highlighting the academic challenges of frequent transfers. For Sitake, the "job" of a college football player extends beyond the field to include the responsibility of representing a university, building a community, and embracing the unique collegiate experience that, in his view, still sets it apart from the NFL. In an era where the financial stakes are higher than ever, Kalani Sitake reminds us that for some, college football remains a calling—a transformative experience that blends athletic pursuit with personal and academic development, rather than solely a transactional employment opportunity. Ep 1278WOW: Brett Yormark DUNKS ON SEC, Big 10 at Media Day, Big 12 is BEST Conference in Football Depth
The argument that the Big 12 may be the deepest football conference, even over the SEC and Big Ten, is gaining significant traction heading into the 2025 season. While it might lack the top-heavy "blue blood" programs of its larger counterparts, the Big 12 boasts unparalleled competitive balance and top-to-bottom strength. Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark has consistently championed this view, stating at recent media days, "Once again, I believe we will be the deepest football conference in America. No league offers the competitive balance that we do." Here's why this argument holds weight:Parity as a Feature, Not a Flaw: Unlike the SEC and Big Ten, which often see 2-3 elite teams consistently contending for national titles while the bottom half struggles, the Big 12 rarely has a dominant, runaway champion. In 2024, the conference saw a four-way tie for first place with Arizona State ultimately winning the league. This parity means that on any given Saturday, almost any team can beat another. There are fewer "guaranteed wins," making the weekly schedule a gauntlet. Returning Quarterback Talent: The Big 12 boasts a remarkable number of returning starting quarterbacks with significant experience. In fact, the conference is set to return nine starting quarterbacks who threw for over 2,400 yards last season. In contrast, the SEC, Big Ten, and ACC combined return only 11 such QBs. This veteran presence under center contributes directly to competitive games and offensive firepower across the league.High-Level Coaching: The conference features a blend of established, successful coaches (e.g., Chris Klieman at Kansas State, Dave Aranda at Baylor, Kyle Whittingham at Utah) and rising stars who are quickly turning programs around (e.g., Kenny Dillingham at Arizona State, Joey McGuire at Texas Tech). This strong coaching collective ensures that teams are well-prepared and strategically sound.Transfer Portal Impact: The Big 12 has been exceptionally active and effective in utilizing the transfer portal. Teams like Texas Tech have brought in top-ranked transfer classes, immediately bolstering their rosters. This fluid movement of talent contributes to the competitive balance, as programs can rapidly retool and improve their standing. Exciting Game Play: The Big 12 led the nation in fourth-quarter lead changes and go-ahead scores in the final minute of conference games last season. This statistic vividly illustrates the constant back-and-forth, down-to-the-wire nature of its contests, making for highly entertaining football. While the SEC and Big Ten will undoubtedly have more teams consistently in the College Football Playoff conversation and likely produce more national champions, the Big 12's depth ensures that its regular season is arguably the most competitive and unpredictable in college football. This parity, which once might have been seen as a weakness by some, is now being championed as its greatest strength. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 1277NEW: ESPN, FOX RUNNING OUT OF MONEY to Give Big 10, SEC In Revenue Deals, YouTube, Netflix Dominate
The landscape of sports broadcasting rights is undergoing a seismic shift, and traditional giants like ESPN and FOX are indeed facing increasing pressure that could limit the astronomical sums they've historically paid to conferences like the SEC and Big Ten. The rising prominence and aggressive spending of tech behemoths like Amazon and Netflix are central to this dynamic. Here's why ESPN and FOX might be running out of money, or at least finding themselves in a tighter financial squeeze:Escalating Bidding Wars for Premium Content: Amazon and Netflix (along with Apple, Google/YouTube, and others) have entered the live sports arena with deep pockets and a strategic imperative to acquire exclusive, high-value content to drive subscriptions and engagement.Amazon Prime Video has secured NFL "Thursday Night Football" and recently acquired a significant portion of NBA rights starting 2025-26.Netflix is making inroads with deals like WWE's "Monday Night Raw" and NFL Christmas Day games, signaling a growing appetite for live sports. This new competition means traditional broadcasters are no longer just bidding against each other; they're up against tech companies whose primary revenue streams aren't solely reliant on linear TV advertising or traditional cable bundles. This pushes rights fees ever higher.Cord-Cutting and Declining Linear TV Revenue: The fundamental business model for ESPN and FOX has historically relied on lucrative carriage fees from cable and satellite providers, augmented by advertising revenue. However, the accelerating trend of cord-cutting means fewer households are subscribing to traditional pay-TV bundles. As viewership migrates to streaming, the revenue base for linear channels erodes, putting pressure on their ability to justify ever-increasing rights fees for content that fewer people are accessing via traditional means. The High Cost of Streaming Transition: To adapt to the "cord-cutting" era, ESPN and FOX are heavily investing in their own direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming services (ESPN+, Fox Sports' digital offerings, and the recent joint venture with Warner Bros. Discovery). Building and maintaining a robust streaming infrastructure, acquiring exclusive digital rights, and marketing these services is incredibly expensive. This diversion of capital impacts what can be allocated to traditional linear TV deals.Content Fragmentation and "Subscription Fatigue": While streamers are eager for content, their entry has led to sports being fragmented across multiple platforms. Fans now often need multiple subscriptions to follow their favorite teams or leagues. This can lead to "subscription fatigue," where consumers become reluctant to add more services, potentially limiting the overall growth of the streaming market's ability to endlessly fund skyrocketing rights. While the SEC's deal with ESPN and the Big Ten's deals with FOX, CBS, and NBC are massive (totaling billions annually), these agreements were largely struck before the full impact of aggressive streaming competition became apparent or as part of a strategic defensive play. As these deals approach their expiration dates (e.g., Big Ten in 2029, SEC in 2034), ESPN and FOX will be operating in an even more competitive and financially constrained environment, potentially capping the massive increases seen in previous cycles. The era of seemingly infinite growth in sports media rights, driven solely by traditional broadcasters, may be leveling off due to the relentless pressure from new-age streaming giants. Ep 1276TRADE: Big 12 Sending West Virginia, Cincinnati, UCF to ACC for SMU, Stanford, California Is GOOD?!
A fascinating, if improbable, scenario has been circulating among college football fans: a six-team trade between the ACC and the Big 12. This hypothetical swap aims to bring geographical and rivalrous sanity back to a landscape often driven purely by television revenue. The proposal suggests the ACC would send Stanford, Cal, and SMU to the Big 12. In return, the Big 12 would transfer Cincinnati, West Virginia, and UCF to the ACC.The theoretical benefits are compelling. For the ACC, acquiring Cincinnati, West Virginia, and UCF would consolidate its Eastern footprint, allowing for more logical travel, reduced costs, and the re-ignition of dormant rivalries (e.g., West Virginia vs. Pitt). For the Big 12, gaining Stanford, Cal, and SMU would reunite former Pac-12 members (with Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Utah) and bring back Southwest Conference matchups (SMU with TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech, Houston), creating clear regional pods. However, the obstacles to such a sensible realignment are immense. The most significant hurdle is the ACC's Grant of Rights agreement, which binds its members' media rights to the conference through 2036. This ironclad legal document makes it exceedingly difficult and costly for any school to leave, let alone three in a "trade" scenario. Any such move would require complex, likely multi-party, and expensive legal negotiations involving the conferences and their media partners (ESPN for ACC; ESPN/FOX for Big 12).Furthermore, the Big 12 previously opted against adding Stanford and Cal during its last expansion, citing concerns about their perceived media value and geographic isolation from their core. While SMU adds a Texas presence, it came at a significant financial sacrifice to join the ACC.Ultimately, while the fan-proposed trade offers an ideal solution for geographical logic and historical rivalries, the intricate financial and legal realities of modern college athletics make it a highly unlikely, albeit appealing, fantasy.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!GametimeToday's episode is brought to you by Gametime. Ep 1275NEW: Is BYU BETTER Without Jake Retzlaff OR Can Utah, Texas Tech Dominate Kalani Sitake's Backup?
The unexpected departure of starting quarterback Jake Retzlaff from the BYU football program, triggered by an Honor Code violation and a civil lawsuit (which was later dismissed with prejudice), leaves a significant void for the Cougars just weeks before the 2025 season. However, this situation also presents an opportunity for other quarterbacks on the roster to step up.While Retzlaff was the incumbent, his on-field performance in 2024 was often inconsistent. His ESPN QBR of 57.1 for the non-conference portion of the season placed him near the bottom of Big 12 starting quarterbacks. This metric suggests that despite some "big-time throws," his overall decision-making and efficiency were often below average, leading to concerns about turnovers and consistency. With Retzlaff now out of the picture, the quarterback competition for BYU's offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick is wide open. The primary contenders, all of whom have the potential to be more consistent or offer a higher ceiling than Retzlaff's 2024 performance, are:McCae Hillstead: A transfer from Utah State, Hillstead brings some prior FBS game experience. He showcased flashes of his talent in 2023, throwing for over 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns in limited action for the Aggies. Hillstead is known for his mobility and ability to extend plays, which could be a strong asset in Roderick's offense. Some analysts believe he has the "best deep ball" among the remaining QBs.Treyson Bourguet: Another transfer, Bourguet comes from Western Michigan, where he started eight games over two seasons, throwing for over 1,300 yards. He possesses solid arm talent and has been in BYU's system longer than true freshman Bear Bachmeier, giving him an advantage in terms of playbook familiarity.Bear Bachmeier: The true freshman is arguably the most intriguing prospect. A former four-star recruit who initially enrolled at Stanford, Bachmeier has elite raw talent, a strong arm, and dual-threat capabilities. While he lacks college experience and has only been with the program for a short time, his high ceiling and physical tools make him a compelling option. He reportedly competed for the starting job at Stanford in spring camp, indicating his readiness to push for playing time. Some experts believe he has the highest ceiling of the group and could ultimately be the best quarterback on the roster.BYU's immediate challenge is managing the lack of depth, as they are down to four quarterbacks, including two true freshmen. However, the unexpected change forces them to give extensive looks to players who might otherwise have been backups. This could lead to one of these younger, talented quarterbacks seizing the opportunity and potentially providing more consistent and higher-level play for the Cougars in 2025 than Retzlaff demonstrated in 2024. The long-term future still looks bright with 5-star Ryder Lyons committed for 2027 after his mission.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!GametimeToday's episode is brought to you by Gametime. Ep 1274WOAH: Washington State, Oregon State LEAVING NEW PAC-12 To Join Big 12, ACC Is Real Expansion Goal
The idea of Washington State and Oregon State, the "Pac-2" holdovers, eventually becoming viable Big 12 expansion candidates is a widely discussed topic in college football realignment, especially with the current state of the Pac-12. While they've recently rebuilt their conference with Mountain West additions and a new media deal, many analysts see this as a temporary arrangement, setting the stage for future moves. Here's why Washington State and Oregon State could eventually be attractive Big 12 expansion candidates:"Power Four" Status and Proven Competitiveness:Despite the mass exodus from the Pac-12, both Oregon State and Washington State have consistently demonstrated their ability to compete at a "Power Five" (now "Power Four") level in football. They've produced NFL talent, had strong seasons, and boast respected coaching staffs. Adding them wouldn't dilute the Big 12's competitive product; in fact, it would enhance it.For example, Oregon State had a strong 2023 season, and Washington State has often proven to be a tough out, even against top-tier opponents.Geographic Expansion and Media Market Foothold:Adding WSU and OSU would give the Big 12 a true coast-to-coast presence, expanding its geographic footprint into the Pacific Northwest. This could tap into new media markets and fan bases, potentially increasing overall viewership and value for future media rights negotiations.Having teams in the Pacific time zone allows for valuable late-night television inventory, which can be attractive to broadcast partners like ESPN and FOX, who already carry the Big 12's primary media rights.Recruiting Territory Access:The states of Washington and Oregon, while not as talent-rich as Texas or Florida, consistently produce solid high school football talent. A Big 12 presence in these states could provide better access to those recruiting grounds for all conference members.Financial Disparity as a Driving Force:This is arguably the most critical factor. The "new" Pac-12, even with its recent additions and a new media deal with CBS Sports, is projected to pay its members significantly less than the Big 12.Estimates for the new Pac-12 media deal (starting 2026) suggest payouts between $7 million and $12 million per school annually. In contrast, the Big 12 is expected to pay its full members around $50 million per school annually starting in 2025.The massive difference (a potential jump from ~$10 million to ~$50 million) creates an almost irresistible financial incentive for Oregon State and Washington State to eventually seek an upgrade to a Big 12-level conference if the opportunity arises.Seeking Long-Term Stability:While Oregon State and Washington State have valiantly rebuilt the Pac-12, the long-term stability of this new configuration remains a question mark, especially as the major conference media rights deals (Big Ten, Big 12, SEC) expire around 2030-2031. If the current Pac-12 media deal doesn't grow significantly by then, its members, including WSU and OSU, will be looking for more financially robust and stable homes. In summary, while Washington State and Oregon State are currently committed to rebuilding the Pac-12, their strong athletic programs, geographic location, and the vast financial chasm between their current media deal and the Big 12's make them highly viable candidates should the Big 12 look to expand further in the future. The question is less about if they're viable, and more about when the circumstances align for such a move. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 1273WOW: Jake Retzlaff to Notre Dame, BYU Has NEW Quarterback, He Was BELOW-AVERAGE Player As It Is?
The situation surrounding BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff has been a complex and rapidly evolving saga, culminating in his recent decision to leave the program. It began with a civil lawsuit filed against Retzlaff by an anonymous woman ("Jane Doe A.G.") in May 2025. The lawsuit alleged sexual assault, rape, strangulation, and biting during an incident in November 2023 at Retzlaff's Provo apartment. The plaintiff sought over $300,000 in damages for emotional distress and other harms, also claiming Provo police discouraged her from naming Retzlaff, a claim the police department denies. In late June 2025, Retzlaff, through his attorneys, filed a robust legal response. He categorically denied all allegations of sexual assault, rape, biting, and strangulation, labeling them "ridiculous and bizarre." Crucially, in this same filing, Retzlaff admitted to having engaged in consensual sexual relations with the plaintiff. He asserted they had "a pleasant and entirely consensual evening together" and presented text messages from weeks after the encounter as evidence of a "flirty" and "fun" ongoing rapport, challenging the plaintiff's claims. Retzlaff's response also painted the lawsuit as an "extortion attempt" timed to coincide with his rising profile as an NFL prospect after BYU's successful 2024 season. However, Retzlaff's admission of premarital sex, while a cornerstone of his legal defense, constituted a direct violation of BYU's strict Honor Code, which prohibits sexual relations outside of marriage. Faced with a potential seven-game suspension from the university for this Honor Code breach, Retzlaff reportedly informed coaches and teammates of his decision to transfer from BYU. This sudden departure creates a significant void at quarterback for the Cougars just weeks before the 2025 season. In a recent development (June 30, 2025), attorneys for both Jake Retzlaff and Jane Doe A.G. filed a joint motion to dismiss the civil lawsuit with prejudice. This means the case is effectively over and cannot be refiled. While the lawsuit's dismissal removes one layer of complexity, Retzlaff's decision to leave BYU due to the Honor Code violation and impending suspension remains, sending him to the transfer portal as one of the most high-profile quarterbacks seeking a new home. His ultimate destination and eligibility for the 2025 season at another institution are now major questions.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!GametimeToday's episode is brought to you by Gametime. Ep 1271NEW: Jake Retzlaff SUING Sexual Assault Accuser, BYU Quarterback COULD PLAY But Broke Honor Code
BYU starting quarterback Jake Retzlaff has filed a robust response to a civil lawsuit filed against him by an anonymous woman ("Jane Doe A.G."), emphatically denying the sexual assault allegations and effectively acting as a countersuit to clear his name. In his legal filing, Retzlaff "categorically denies each and every and all allegations that he bit, raped or strangled" the plaintiff, labeling them "ridiculous and bizarre allegations, all of which are false and untrue." Instead, his attorneys assert that Retzlaff and the accuser "had a pleasant and entirely consensual evening together, playing video games, and a normal evening of consensual sexual interaction that was uneventful but pleasant." They claim the plaintiff slept over and left the next morning. A key part of Retzlaff's defense involves text message exchanges between him and the accuser, which he describes as "fun and lighthearted," occurring weeks after the alleged incident. These messages, some of which banter about the BYU/Utah football rivalry, are presented as evidence that the interaction was consensual and that the accuser was comfortable with him post-encounter. Retzlaff's response also heavily questions the timing and motivation behind the lawsuit. His legal team points out that the plaintiff's first claim of rape, linked to a "large monetary demand," only emerged after Retzlaff's successful 2024 season (11-2 record) and when he was being publicly identified as a potential NFL draft prospect. They allege no contact occurred between the parties during the 2024 season. Furthermore, Retzlaff's defense suggests that the accuser "had sex with one or more Utah football players" around the time of the alleged incident, and initially reported to police that she was assaulted by a "childhood friend from Salt Lake City," implying an attempt to "extort money" from Retzlaff. He is seeking a dismissal of the complaint and full reimbursement of his legal fees. This countersuit sets the stage for a contentious legal battle, with Retzlaff's attorneys maintaining his factual innocence and committing to proving it in court.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!GametimeToday's episode is brought to you by Gametime. Ep 1272BOMBSHELL: Jake Retzlaff LEAVING BYU FOOTBALL After Honor Code Violation, Scandal to Transfer Portal
Latest reports indicate that BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff plans to transfer from the program. This news broke on Sunday, June 29, 2025, with ESPN's Pete Thamel reporting that Retzlaff has "begun informing the staff and players of his plans to leave." This decision comes amid a civil lawsuit filed against Retzlaff in May 2025, alleging sexual assault. While Retzlaff and his lawyers have denied the allegations of sexual assault, they have admitted to a consensual sexual encounter, which is a direct violation of BYU's Honor Code prohibiting premarital sex. Sources suggest that BYU was prepared to suspend Retzlaff for several games (reportedly up to seven games) due to the Honor Code violation. It appears Retzlaff is opting to transfer to avoid this suspension and play his final collegiate season elsewhere. Potential landing spots mentioned in various reports include Notre Dame, Northwestern, and Utah, though these are currently unverified and speculative. The civil lawsuit against Retzlaff remains ongoing. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Gametime Today's episode is brought to you by Gametime. Ep 1270NEW: Texas State LEAVING Sun Belt for Pac-12 Will DESTROY THE ACC In Realignment, Expansion Chaos
The "Pac-2" is officially expanding, and Texas State University is indeed on the verge of joining the new-look Pac-12 Conference, with an announcement potentially imminent! This move marks a significant step in the conference's efforts to rebuild after the mass exodus of its traditional members. Here's what's happening:The Need for Eight Football Teams: After losing ten of its twelve members, the Pac-12 was left with just Oregon State and Washington State. To maintain FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) status and be eligible for the College Football Playoff, a conference needs at least eight football-playing members. The Pac-12 had already added Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, and Utah State from the Mountain West, plus Gonzaga (a non-football member), bringing their total to eight, but only seven football programs. Texas State is expected to be that crucial eighth football-playing institution. Financial Motivation: The timing is critical. Texas State's exit fee for leaving the Sun Belt Conference doubles from $5 million to $10 million on July 1st. This provides strong motivation for both sides to finalize a deal quickly. For Texas State, the move is a massive financial upgrade; they currently receive around $2 million annually from the Sun Belt's media rights, but the new Pac-12 media deal with CBS Sports is expected to pay schools at least $7 million per year, potentially tripling their revenue. Strategic Footprint: Adding Texas State gives the Pac-12 a valuable presence in the state of Texas, a hotbed for recruiting in both football and basketball. San Marcos, where Texas State is located, sits between major cities like Austin and San Antonio, offering a significant and passionate alumni base. The university is seen by some as a "sleeping giant" with strong resources. Program Resurgence: Under head coach G.J. Kinne, Texas State football has seen a significant turnaround, achieving back-to-back eight-win seasons and their first consecutive winning seasons since 2008-09. This on-field success makes them a more attractive addition. New Pac-12 Structure: Texas State would join Oregon State and Washington State, along with the Mountain West transplants (Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah State) and Gonzaga, forming a nine-member conference with eight football-playing schools for the 2026-27 season. The conference recently secured an extended media rights agreement with CBS Sports as its "anchor" partner through the 2030-31 season. While the "new" Pac-12 will look vastly different from its storied past, the addition of Texas State is a strategic move to secure its FBS status, enhance its media rights, and plant a flag in a vital recruiting territory, as the conference attempts to carve out a new identity in the ever-shifting landscape of college athletics.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!RugietRugiet Ready is a next-gen prescription treatment designed to amplify arousal in the brain and boost blood flow. Ep 1267Ryder Lyons' Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Mission Strips A Year From BYU In Best Way!
Ryder Lyons, the highly touted 5-star quarterback who just committed to BYU, will indeed be taking a significant detour before he ever steps onto the field for the Cougars: he plans to serve a one-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This means that while he is a part of the 2026 recruiting class, he will not enroll at BYU until January 2027. His "freshman" season on the field won't be until the 2027 college football season. Here's how this plays out and why it's a unique aspect of recruiting for BYU: Post-High School Departure: Lyons confirmed during his commitment announcement on "The Pat McAfee Show" that he will submit his mission papers in August 2025, shortly after his high school graduation. He expects to receive his mission call, assigning him a location anywhere in the world, within a few weeks. One-Year Mission: While the traditional full-time proselytizing mission for male members of the LDS Church is two years, it has become increasingly common for highly sought-after athletes to serve "one-year missions." This allows them to fulfill a religious obligation while also getting back to football sooner than a full two-year absence would entail. His older brother, Walker Lyons (now at USC), also served a one-year mission. Unique to BYU's Program: BYU, as an LDS-owned and operated university, is uniquely equipped to handle mission deferrals. Their coaching staff and academic advisors are highly experienced in working with athletes who choose to serve missions. This includes holding scholarships, maintaining academic eligibility, and providing a smooth re-entry into the program upon their return. This structured support is a major advantage BYU holds over other major college football programs when recruiting LDS athletes. Impact on BYU's QB Room: For BYU, Lyons's mission means he won't immediately compete for the starting quarterback job in 2026. This allows the current quarterbacks on the roster (like Jake Retzlaff, McCae Hillstead, and Treyson Bourguet, along with true freshman Bear Bachmeier) to develop and compete for the starting role in 2025 and 2026. If needed, BYU can still utilize the transfer portal for a one-year solution for the 2026 season, knowing that a generational talent like Lyons will be arriving in 2027. Anticipation for 2027: When Lyons does enroll in January 2027, he's expected to participate in spring practices and immediately push for the starting quarterback position for the 2027 season. His talent and dual-threat capabilities are highly anticipated by the BYU coaching staff and fanbase. Ryder Lyons's decision to serve a mission highlights the unique intersection of faith, family, and high-level college football that often defines BYU's recruiting approach. While it means a delay in seeing him on the field, it's a well-understood and supported part of the BYU athletic experience. Ep 1268BREAKING: BYU, Nets SHOCK NBA Draft with Egor Demin, VJ Edgecombe is TOP-THREE PICK From Baylor
The 2025 NBA Draft has become a hot topic, and two names frequently appearing in the top 10 discussions are V.J. Edgecombe and Egor Demin. Both possess intriguing skill sets and high upside, making them strong candidates to be lottery picks. V.J. Edgecombe: The Explosive Two-Way Guard Projected Top Pick: Edgecombe, a freshman guard out of Baylor, has consistently been projected as a top-tier pick, with some mock drafts placing him as high as No. 3 overall. He's a highly-touted five-star recruit who lived up to the hype in his freshman season. Two-Way Prowess: What makes Edgecombe so appealing to NBA teams is his two-way potential. At 6-foot-4, he's a hyper-athlete with a high motor, known for his relentless effort on defense. He excels at forcing turnovers (averaging over 2 steals per game) and using his athleticism to create highlight-reel plays, including powerful dunks. Offensive Upside: Offensively, Edgecombe has shown a smooth jumper and the ability to score at all three levels. While his ball-handling and pull-up shooting are areas for continued development, his ability to play with the ball in pick-and-roll situations and his overall scoring versatility make him a dynamic threat. He averaged around 15 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game in his collegiate season. Ideal Fit: Teams like the Philadelphia 76ers (who drafted him at No. 3 in recent mock drafts) see him as a perfect blend of talent and fit, providing a strong two-way presence that can grow alongside their established stars. Egor Demin: The Jumbo Playmaking Guard Rising Stock: Demin, a point guard from BYU (who previously played in Real Madrid's youth system), has seen his draft stock steadily rise, culminating in him being selected as high as No. 8 overall in recent mock drafts, specifically by the Brooklyn Nets. This is a significant jump from earlier projections that had him in the mid-to-late lottery. Elite Passing and Size: Demin's most captivating attribute is his elite passing ability and court vision at his size. Standing around 6-foot-8, he's a "jumbo creator" who can make dazzling, cross-court passes with either hand. His fluidity and ability to play like a guard despite his wing-like frame make him a rare prospect built for the modern NBA. He averaged 5.5 assists per game in his freshman year at BYU. Developmental Areas: While his passing is sublime, Demin's shooting remains a work in progress (around 27% from three-point range at BYU). He'll need to improve his jumper and refine his ball-handling to consistently create his own shot against NBA defenders. However, his performance at the NBA Combine, where his shooting mechanics reportedly improved, has boosted confidence in his development. Upside Bet: Teams like the Nets, armed with multiple first-round picks, are willing to bet on Demin's unique combination of size and playmaking potential, viewing him as a high-upside swing. His potential to be a legitimate playmaker at the NBA level, despite areas for improvement, solidifies his status as a top-10 prospect. Both V.J. Edgecombe and Egor Demin represent the evolving archetype of NBA talent: versatile, athletic players with high ceilings who can impact the game on both ends of the court. Their projected top-10 selections underscore the league's constant search for unique skill sets and untapped potential. Ep 1266HOW BYU STUNNED A NATION: Five-Star Ryder Lyons Dumps Oregon, USC for Big 12, Shows NIL, LDS Power
Ryder Lyons, the highly sought-after 5-star quarterback from the 2026 class, announced his commitment to BYU on June 24, 2025, choosing the Cougars over other top programs like Oregon and USC. His decision was heavily influenced by a unique combination of factors: Deep Religious and Family Ties: Lyons is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), which owns and operates BYU. This strong alignment with his faith provides a comfortable and familiar environment. Furthermore, his father, Tim Lyons, played defensive back for BYU, and other family members have attended the university, creating a powerful generational connection to the program. LDS Mission Plans: Lyons intends to serve a one-year LDS mission after graduating high school, delaying his college enrollment until 2027. BYU's program is uniquely equipped and highly experienced in accommodating missionary deferrals for its athletes, making it an ideal choice for players with similar plans. This understanding and support from the coaching staff and institution were crucial. Early Belief and Consistent Recruitment: BYU was the first program to offer Lyons a scholarship back in 2021 when he was just in eighth grade. Lyons himself highlighted this early belief as a significant factor, stating, "They pulled the trigger on me, they believed in me early, and it's just crazy how it all comes full circle." This long-standing relationship and consistent recruitment effort clearly resonated with him. Program Trajectory and Quarterback Development: BYU is coming off a strong 2024 season, finishing with an 11-2 record, which impressed Lyons. He expressed his desire to "win" and noted the program's positive "trajectory." BYU also has a rich history of developing successful quarterbacks, which likely appealed to Lyons's long-term goal of playing in the NFL. Despite being a private university with less transparency around NIL, BYU has clearly shown an ability to compete for top talent. While other schools could offer high-level football and attractive NIL opportunities (Lyons acknowledged the "confusing" nature of NIL money but emphasized his focus on the NFL), the combination of faith, family heritage, BYU's unique ability to handle his mission, and the program's early and consistent belief in his talent ultimately led Ryder Lyons to choose the Cougars.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!RugietRugiet Ready is a next-gen prescription treatment designed to amplify arousal in the brain and boost blood flow. Ep 1265BREAKING: BYU Lands FIVE-STAR QUARTERBACK Ryder Lyons, STUNS Oregon, USC for TOP Recruit In Football
Ryder Lyons, a highly-rated five-star quarterback in the 2026 class, chose BYU over other prominent programs like Oregon and USC. His decision was influenced by several key factors: Faith and Family Connection: Lyons is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which aligns with BYU's values and mission. Several of his family members have attended BYU, including an older sister who recently graduated from the university and lives in Utah County. He also plans to serve a one-year mission trip for the Church after high school, delaying his enrollment until 2027, a process BYU is uniquely equipped to support. Long-standing Relationship with BYU: BYU was one of the first schools to offer Lyons a scholarship back in 2021, establishing a strong and consistent relationship with him and his family over several years. Quarterback Development and Program History: BYU has a reputation as "Quarterback U," with a history of developing NFL-caliber quarterbacks. Lyons and his family likely saw a clear path to professional development at BYU. NIL Opportunities: BYU has shown an increased commitment to Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities, which was a factor in their ability to land a high-profile recruit like Lyons. Potential for Legend Status: Committing to BYU as a five-star recruit (the highest-rated since 2003 for the program) offers Lyons the opportunity to achieve "all-time legend status" within the passionate BYU fanbase. Academics: Lyons is reportedly a straight-A student who values education. BYU's strong academic programs, including its highly-ranked Marriott School of Business, were likely an attractive aspect for him. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
