Ep 1363BIG 12 BEST BETS: BYU Rolls, Texas Tech Shocks Utah, West Virginia Covers, Baylor Wins, TCU Over SMU
This week is a pivotal one for three of the Big 12's most impressive teams—Utah, Texas Tech, and BYU—as each faces a significant test that will help define their season. Utah vs. Texas Tech The marquee matchup of the weekend is the top-20 showdown between Utah and Texas Tech in Salt Lake City. Both teams are undefeated and have looked dominant in their early games. The game is a classic clash of styles: Texas Tech's explosive, high-scoring offense against Utah's notoriously physical and disciplined defense. The winner will establish themselves as a top contender for the Big 12 championship. Adding to the excitement is the fact that FOX's Big Noon Kickoff will be in town, a clear indication that this is one of the most important games on the national schedule. BYU at East Carolina BYU, also undefeated, faces its first real challenge of the season on the road against East Carolina. While BYU has looked dominant in its first two wins, the team has yet to be truly tested. East Carolina, a tough and gritty team in a hostile home environment, will provide that test. For BYU's true freshman quarterback, Bear Bachmeier, this will be his first career road start, and he will face an aggressive and blitz-happy defense. This game is a classic "trap game" and a potential upset alert for the Cougars, as a win would solidify their status as a legitimate contender. The outcomes of these games will have major implications for the Big 12's standing in the national polls and the race for the expanded College Football Playoff.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYEnough with boring, flavorless caffeine, it’s time to give your caffeine a flavor upgrade with 5-hour ENERGY®️ shots. Ep 1362UPSET ALERT: STUNNING Prediction for Texas Tech, Utah In Kyle Whittingham's FINAL Season, NIL Bowl
The highly anticipated top-20 showdown between Utah and Texas Tech in Salt Lake City is a clash of two of the Big 12's most impressive teams. Both are undefeated and have showcased distinct strengths that make this a must-watch game.Texas Tech's offense has been a juggernaut, leading the conference in scoring with over 58 points per game. Quarterback Behren Morton is a major reason for this success, having thrown for over 400 yards in his last outing and showcasing a high level of efficiency. They will face their toughest test yet against a notoriously physical and disciplined Utah defense.Utah's success is rooted in its defensive dominance and a punishing, physical style of play. The Utes have held opponents to just over 45 points per game and have been excellent at pressuring the quarterback and stopping the run. The key matchup will be Utah's defensive front against Texas Tech's explosive offense. If the Utes can get pressure on Morton and force turnovers, they will have a major advantage. On the other side of the ball, Utah's balanced offense, led by dual-threat quarterback Devin Dampier, will face a surprisingly improved Texas Tech defense. This Red Raiders' unit has made a complete turnaround from last season and has been a major factor in their dominant wins. The game will likely come down to which team can win the battle in the trenches, control the clock, and minimize mistakes.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYEnough with boring, flavorless caffeine, it’s time to give your caffeine a flavor upgrade with 5-hour ENERGY®️ shots. Ep 1360RECAP: Kansas State is FLAILING, Mike Gundy Fired, Texas Tech Meets Utah, Baylor?
The Big 12's 2025 college football season has been a captivating display of depth and competitiveness. The new 16-team format has created a landscape with no clear-cut dominant team, leading to a series of exciting and unpredictable games. The early season has been defined by a number of surprising results that showcase the conference's parity. While some of the preseason favorites, like Kansas State, have stumbled with a 1-3 record, other teams have risen to the occasion. The conference has several undefeated teams, including Iowa State (4-0, 1-0 in-conference), Houston (3-0, 1-0 in-conference), Arizona (3-0), Texas Tech (3-0), and Utah (3-0). BYU and UCF are also undefeated at 2-0. This wide-open field of contenders demonstrates that on any given Saturday, any team has a legitimate shot at winning. The on-field product has been equally impressive. The Big 12 has seen a number of thrilling, back-and-forth games, with the outcomes often decided by a single play. Iowa State's dramatic 16-13 victory over rival Iowa was a prime example of this grit and determination. Similarly, Baylor's double-overtime win against SMU and West Virginia's comeback victory against Pitt were showcases of the competitive nature of the league. The new additions to the conference have also made a significant impact. Utah, in its first season, has looked like a legitimate contender from day one, with a statement win against UCLA and a dominant 3-0 record. Meanwhile, a number of other new teams, including Houston and Arizona, have also started strong, proving that the conference's expansion has successfully added talent and depth rather than diluting the competition. The Big 12's depth is evident in the AP Poll, where multiple teams are currently ranked. Iowa State, Utah, and Texas Tech have all earned a spot in the top 25, showing that the conference has multiple teams capable of competing for a spot in the expanded College Football Playoff. The fact that a number of other teams are also receiving votes speaks to the overall strength of the league, where even a team with a couple of losses can still be considered a dangerous opponent.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYEnough with boring, flavorless caffeine, it’s time to give your caffeine a flavor upgrade with 5-hour ENERGY®️ shots. Ep 1361FRAUDS: AP Poll Ranks NOTRE DAME Instead of BYU, TCU, Baylor and Gives SEC, Big 10 TOO MUCH LOVE!
The Associated Press (AP) Poll is a long-standing tradition in college football, but it often faces criticism for its perceived biases. Fans and analysts have pointed out a few key ways the poll can disadvantage teams from conferences like the Big 12, while simultaneously benefiting SEC schools. The "Quality Loss" vs. The Disrespected WinThis is perhaps the most common criticism of the AP Poll's bias. When an SEC team loses to another SEC team, that loss is often framed as a "quality loss." The team may drop a few spots, but their overall ranking often remains high because voters believe they lost to a good team in a tough conference. This creates a self-fulfilling prophecy where the SEC is viewed as a powerhouse because a large number of its teams are ranked, which in turn gives those teams more "quality loss" opportunities. For a team like BYU, the narrative is often different. If BYU plays a Power Four opponent from another conference and wins, that victory may not be viewed with the same weight as an SEC win. For example, some fans have pointed out that despite BYU's dominant wins, their ranking has not risen as much as some other teams who have had "quality losses." Their wins, even if lopsided, are not always seen as "quality wins" in the same way as an SEC team's, which can make it harder for them to climb the rankings. The Preseason Poll and Brand RecognitionAnother major factor is the preseason poll. The AP Poll's first rankings of the season are based on a mix of reputation, returning starters, and recruiting rankings. The SEC has a long history of national success and consistently brings in top recruiting classes. This means that SEC teams, like Alabama and Georgia, often start the season with high rankings based on their brand name alone, regardless of the previous year's record or key losses. This "anchoring" effect can be a huge hurdle for teams like BYU. BYU may have had a successful previous season, but if they don't start the season ranked, they have to work much harder to gain the attention of voters and climb into the top 25. An undefeated BYU team, even with dominant wins, might find itself just outside the top 25, while an SEC team with a loss might still be ranked due to its brand recognition and a "quality loss." The AP poll's continued reliance on preseason rankings can disadvantage teams that are consistently good but lack the same historical brand recognition as the SEC's traditional powers.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYEnough with boring, flavorless caffeine, it’s time to give your caffeine a flavor upgrade with 5-hour ENERGY®️ shots. Ep 1359AWFUL: ESPN Predicting Kalani Sitake Will LEAVE BYU for UCLA is GROSS, Big 12 Football Disrespect
While speculation linking Kalani Sitake to the UCLA head coaching job is understandable given UCLA's recent coaching change, there are a number of reasons why he is highly unlikely to leave BYU. His deep personal, cultural, and spiritual ties to the university, combined with the professional success he has found in Provo, make it almost certain that he will remain the head coach of the Cougars. The Spiritual and Cultural Fit Kalani Sitake is a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which sponsors BYU. This is not just a job for him; it's a mission. He is the first FBS head coach of Tongan descent, and his roots run deep in the Latter-day Saint community. BYU's mission and values align with his own, and he has often spoken about the unique opportunity he has to coach at his alma mater and a school with which he has a profound spiritual connection. His coaching style, often described as "love and learning," is a direct reflection of the university's principles. This is a level of personal fulfillment and institutional alignment that he would not find anywhere else. Loyalty to BYU and Long-Term Security Sitake has a proven track record of loyalty to BYU. He has had multiple opportunities to leave for other jobs, including those at a higher profile and with larger paychecks, and has consistently turned them down. Just last season, in December 2024, he signed a long-term contract extension, signaling his commitment to the program "well into the future." The contract, which also included a significant increase in the salary pool for his entire coaching staff, demonstrates that BYU is willing to invest in him and his vision. In a college football world where coaches jump from job to job, Sitake's loyalty to BYU and their commitment to him are a rare and powerful combination. Professional Momentum Sitake is not just loyal; he is also successful. He has guided BYU through the difficult transition from independence to the Big 12 and has done so with a high degree of success. The program has had multiple double-digit win seasons under his leadership and is off to another strong start this year. He has proven that he can compete at a high level and has turned the Cougars into a legitimate contender in their new conference. He has built a strong team culture, a consistent program, and a powerful brand. There is no reason for him to leave a place where he has a long-term contract, the full support of his athletic department and university, and a clear path to continued success.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYEnough with boring, flavorless caffeine, it’s time to give your caffeine a flavor upgrade with 5-hour ENERGY®️ shots. Ep 1357BREAKING: ESPN Predicts BYU's Kalani Sitake as UCLA's New Football Coach, Joining Big 10 Conference
Reports of ESPN predicting BYU's Kalani Sitake as the next head coach at UCLA have been circulating on social media. This speculation comes on the heels of UCLA's decision to fire head coach DeShaun Foster after an 0-3 start to the season. While ESPN has not officially made a prediction, the idea has gained traction due to a confluence of factors that make Sitake an attractive candidate for the Bruins.UCLA's Coaching Vacancy: UCLA's athletic department is in a major transition, having recently joined the Big Ten and needing to find a leader who can quickly bring success to the program. The firing of Foster just three games into the season signals the school's desire for a rapid turnaround.Sitake's Success at BYU: Kalani Sitake has built a powerhouse at BYU. He has a proven track record of winning, with a career record of 74-43, including multiple seasons with double-digit wins. His ability to develop talent and consistently field a competitive team, even as an independent and now in the Big 12, is a major selling point.Pac-12 and West Coast Ties: Sitake has deep roots on the West Coast, having played at BYU and coached at Utah and Oregon State. This background gives him an immediate advantage in recruiting in Southern California, a crucial area for a UCLA program looking to regain its footing. His familiarity with the former Pac-12 landscape and his winning record against some of its schools would also be a major plus for the fan base.Proven Fundraiser and Recruiter: Sitake has shown an ability to connect with the local community and, more recently, has embraced the new era of college football with NIL and the transfer portal. His leadership in navigating BYU's move to the Big 12 demonstrates an ability to manage change and lead a program through a major transition. While this is pure speculation at this point, the rumors highlight Sitake's rising profile in the college football world. His success at BYU has made him a top candidate for any major coaching vacancy, and the timing of UCLA's opening makes the connection intriguing.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYEnough with boring, flavorless caffeine, it’s time to give your caffeine a flavor upgrade with 5-hour ENERGY®️ shots. Ep 1356HUGE: Utah STUNS Wyoming, BYU Loses to BYE, Texas Tech Thumps Oregon State, Iowa State? TCU? Cincy?
Both the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Utah Utes have looked incredibly good to start the 2025 college football season, and they are quickly emerging as two of the top contenders in the new, deep Big 12 conference. Their success is a product of high-powered offenses and surprisingly stout defenses. Texas Tech's Offensive Explosion Texas Tech, under head coach Joey McGuire, has been an offensive juggernaut. They're undefeated and have been putting up huge numbers, including a 45-14 win over Oregon State. The Red Raiders' offense is a balanced machine, with quarterback Behren Morton leading the charge. Morton has been a standout, throwing for over 400 yards and multiple touchdowns in their most recent win. The running game has also been highly effective, with multiple players contributing. This offensive firepower, a hallmark of Texas Tech football, has been on full display. What's perhaps most impressive about this Texas Tech team is the turnaround on defense. After finishing last season with one of the worst passing defenses in the country, the Red Raiders have made a complete 180. The defense has been a major factor in their dominant wins, holding opponents to low point totals and consistently creating pressure. This combination of a potent offense and a much-improved defense makes them a legitimate threat in every game. Utah's Physical Dominance Utah has looked every bit the part of a Big 12 contender in their first season in the conference. The Utes are also undefeated, and their wins have been a showcase of their trademark physicality and discipline. They have already secured a statement victory on the road against a strong Big Ten opponent, UCLA, and have followed that up with a 63-9 win over Cal Poly and a 31-6 win over Wyoming. The Utes' success starts in the trenches, where their offensive line has paved the way for a dominant running game. Their defense, a long-time strength under head coach Kyle Whittingham, has been suffocating, holding opponents to very few points and forcing turnovers. The Utes' defense has consistently outshined their opponents' offenses, with multiple players making impact plays and keeping their team in control. In a conference that's already known for its competitiveness and depth, both Texas Tech and Utah have separated themselves as elite teams with a real chance to contend for the Big 12 championship and a spot in the expanded College Football Playoff. Their strong starts set up a highly anticipated matchup between them later in the season.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYEnough with boring, flavorless caffeine, it’s time to give your caffeine a flavor upgrade with 5-hour ENERGY®️ shots. Ep 1355BOOM: West Virginia UPSETS Pitt! Referees Tried to SCREW Rich Rodriguez, ACC Sucks, Backyard Brawl!
In the latest installment of the legendary "Backyard Brawl," West Virginia came away with a dramatic 31-24 overtime victory over Pitt on Saturday at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown. The game was a classic, with a back-and-forth battle that saw momentum swings and a wild finish. West Virginia started strong, jumping out to an early 14-3 lead. However, Pitt fought back, and after a series of critical turnovers and big plays, they appeared to take control of the game. The Panthers' offense, led by quarterback Eli Holstein, scored 21 unanswered points to take a commanding 24-14 lead in the fourth quarter. But the Mountaineers refused to quit. With the home crowd roaring, West Virginia's offense, sparked by quarterback Nicco Marchiol, mounted a desperate comeback. Marchiol led two crucial drives in the fourth quarter. The first resulted in a field goal, cutting the deficit to 24-17. The second, a heroic 87-yard drive, culminated in a game-tying touchdown pass with just 11 seconds left on the clock, forcing overtime. In the extra period, West Virginia had the ball first. They methodically moved down the field, and running back Tye Edwards punched in a one-yard touchdown to give the Mountaineers a 31-24 lead. The defense then held firm, stopping Pitt's last-ditch effort to tie the game and securing a monumental win for the program. The victory marks a significant moment for the Mountaineers, as they not only defeated their archrival but also showed an incredible amount of resilience and grit to come back from a seemingly insurmountable deficit. Ep 1354ANGRY: Kansas State STUNNED at Arizona, FIRE Matt Wells, BENCH Avery Johnson, Chris Klieman TERRIBLE
Kansas State's struggles continued with a tough loss on the road against Arizona, with a final score of 23-17. The game was a tight defensive battle for a while, but Arizona's overall dominance in key statistical categories ultimately proved to be the difference. Here's a breakdown of how Arizona State beat Kansas State:Offensive Disparity: Arizona's offense outgained Kansas State by a significant margin. The Wildcats struggled to move the ball, finishing with only 193 total yards compared to Arizona's 412. This was largely due to Arizona's successful rushing attack, which amassed 234 yards, and a more efficient passing game.Possession and Time of Possession: Arizona's ability to sustain drives was a huge factor. They had 21 first downs compared to just 8 for Kansas State, and they dominated the time of possession, holding the ball for almost 37 minutes, compared to Kansas State's 23. This kept Kansas State's offense on the sidelines and wore down its defense.Red-Zone Efficiency: When Arizona got into the red zone, they capitalized, scoring on all five of their chances, while Kansas State only scored on its lone red-zone trip. While most of Arizona's scores were field goals, it was enough to consistently add points to the board and maintain a lead.Kansas State's Offensive Woes: Kansas State's offense, which has struggled for much of the season, had another tough night. Quarterback Avery Johnson was sacked, and the team struggled to find a rhythm. While they had a few explosive plays, including a 75-yard touchdown run by Jayce Brown, the team's inability to consistently move the ball and convert on third downs (just 3 of 13) prevented them from mounting a comeback. The loss dropped Kansas State's record to 1-3 on the season and highlighted the challenges they're facing on offense.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYEnough with boring, flavorless caffeine, it’s time to give your caffeine a flavor upgrade with 5-hour ENERGY®️ shots. Ep 1353OUCH: Houston BLOWS OUT Deion Sanders, Colorado, Ryan Staub NOT GOOD, Conner Weigman LEGIT In Big 12
Houston beat Colorado tonight with a final score of 36-20. While the final score may not appear to be a complete blowout, a closer look at the game's stats and flow reveals that Houston dominated for long stretches and was in control for most of the night. Here's a breakdown of how Houston beat Colorado:Dominance in the Trenches: Houston's offense, led by quarterback Conner Weigman, was able to control the line of scrimmage, especially in the running game. The Cougars' rushing attack was a major factor, with running back Dean Connors leading the way. Houston's offensive line created running lanes and consistently moved the ball, wearing down the Buffaloes' defense over the course of the game.Weigman's Performance: While Houston's offense wasn't spectacular, Weigman was efficient and made plays when they mattered most. He finished with two total touchdowns (one passing, one rushing) and was a threat to run the ball. The Cougars also used their offensive line to dominate, which allowed Weigman to run for a touchdown.Special Teams and Defense: Houston's special teams were a huge factor in the win. Kicker Ethan Sanchez was a hero, connecting on five field goals, including a 52-yarder. His ability to convert on long field goals was crucial, and his points kept Houston in the lead when the offense wasn't able to get into the end zone. Houston's defense also stifled Colorado's offense for much of the game, especially in the first half when they held the Buffaloes to just 45 yards. The game was a struggle for Colorado's offense, which was making a change at starting quarterback. While Ryan Staub had a solid performance, throwing for 204 yards, the team was sacked three times, and his fumble at the goal line was a major turning point. The Buffaloes' offense was inconsistent, and they struggled to find any sort of rhythm against a tough Houston defense.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYEnough with boring, flavorless caffeine, it’s time to give your caffeine a flavor upgrade with 5-hour ENERGY®️ shots. Ep 1350Picking EVERY Big 12 Game: West Virginia UPSETS Pitt, Utah Rolls, Iowa State, Texas Tech BLOW OUTS!
The Big 12's 2025 college football season has been nothing short of electric, proving to be one of the most exciting and unpredictable leagues in the country. With the addition of new teams and a new 16-team format, the conference has showcased its depth and parity in a way that has made nearly every game feel important. The action started with a bang, with several marquee non-conference matchups that captivated fans. The new members made an immediate impact, with TCU's decisive win over North Carolina, spoiling Bill Belichick's college coaching debut, being a huge statement for the conference. Utah's dominant performance on the road against a Big Ten opponent, UCLA, also provided the Big 12 with a significant quality win. These victories, coupled with high-scoring wins by teams like Texas Tech and BYU, set a tone of high-level play and offensive firepower. What makes the Big 12 so "electric" this season is the number of close, competitive games. There have been no easy wins, and the outcomes of many games have been decided by a single play or a last-second field goal. The Cy-Hawk rivalry game between Iowa State and Iowa went down to the wire, with a clutch 54-yard field goal giving the Cyclones a dramatic victory. Similarly, Kansas State's upset loss to Army and Arizona State's close defeat to Mississippi State were hard-fought battles that could have gone either way.The league's competitiveness is a testament to its coaching and talent. Multiple teams, including BYU, Utah, Iowa State, and Texas Tech, are currently undefeated and ranked, and several others are on the cusp of the top 25. This creates a fascinating and wide-open conference race where a team with a single loss can still be a contender for the championship. The fact that the Big 12 has so many teams that can legitimately compete for a conference title and a spot in the expanded College Football Playoff is what makes this season so compelling and unpredictable. The action on the field has lived up to the hype, making the Big 12 a must-watch every Saturday. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 1348WHAT: ESPN Is Predicting THREE Big 12 Teams in College Football Playoff, Utah, TCU, Arizona Over BYU
In the world of advanced analytics, Bill Connelly's SP+ model is one of the most respected, and its resume rankings often provide a different perspective than traditional polls. While there's no record of a specific tweet by Bill Connelly claiming the Big 12 has three playoff teams based on resume alone, the SP+ rankings themselves do show that the Big 12 has a legitimate case for multiple teams to make the expanded College Football Playoff.Connelly's SP+ is a predictive system that measures a team's efficiency on a play-by-play basis, adjusting for tempo and opponent. The "resume" aspect of the ranking takes into account a team's on-field results, giving more credit for dominant wins over strong opponents. Given the Big 12's strong start to the season, it's very plausible that the model would favor its top teams. The Big 12's Top Contenders in SP+Based on the recent SP+ rankings, the Big 12 has several teams in a strong position:Texas Tech: The Red Raiders have been a surprise, with their high-powered offense and improved defense. Their early-season dominance has likely given them a significant boost in the SP+ ratings. The model would be impressed with their high-scoring affairs, as it often rewards offensive efficiency.Utah: The Utes have also impressed the model with their strong start. Their convincing road victory over UCLA, a Big Ten team, would be a major resume builder. The SP+ system would likely view this as a high-quality win, even if the AP Poll wasn't as impressed.Iowa State: The Cyclones' dramatic win over their rival Iowa, combined with their 3-0 start, has likely caught the attention of the SP+ model. Winning a close, low-scoring game against a quality opponent can be a sign of a team's grit and overall efficiency, which the model would value.BYU: The Cougars have also been dominant in their early games, and the SP+ model tends to be high on them due to their talent and coaching stability. While their resume might not be as strong as Utah's yet, their on-field dominance would be a factor.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYTee up that trip! Ep 1347WOW: Big 12 Just PUBLICLY BURIED Greg Sankey, SEC On Twitter for BULLYING ESPN, Conference Expansion
Texas Tech booster and prominent college football figure Cody Campbell recently took to Twitter to call out SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. Campbell's criticism came after a leaked email from Sankey to the commissioners of the "Group of Six" conferences was made public. In the email, Sankey was reportedly dismissive and condescending toward the other commissioners, suggesting that the power conferences (SEC and Big Ten) would handle the future of college sports and that the other conferences should essentially stay out of the way.Campbell, who has been a vocal proponent for a more balanced and collaborative approach to college sports governance, shared his reaction on Twitter. He wrote, "All I can say is 'Wow!!' Bullying the G6 conference commissioners to prevent them from representing their members and making their voices heard!?" He went on to question if this approach was consistent with the goal of doing what is best for "ALL of college sports—women's sports, Olympic sports, and smaller schools?"The tweet and the broader controversy highlight the growing tension between the SEC and Big Ten and the rest of college football. Campbell, as a key figure in the Big 12, has been a leading voice in advocating for the "other" conferences, arguing that the two superconferences should not unilaterally make decisions that affect the entire college sports landscape. His public rebuke of Sankey underscores the ongoing power struggle and the deep-seated disagreements over the future of the sport's governance.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYTee up that trip! Ep 1346BIG 12 POWER RANKINGS: BYU is Elite, Utah is Deadly, West Virginia Crashes, TCU Holds, Texas Tech?
The Big 12 conference is currently showing itself to be as deep and competitive as advertised. With 16 teams, the league is a true "superconference" with no clear-cut favorite and a surprising amount of parity. The early season results have only reinforced this notion. While some of the pre-season favorites have stumbled—Kansas State's upset loss to Army and Arizona State's defeat at the hands of Mississippi State are prime examples—other teams have emerged as potential contenders. Iowa State, for example, is off to a 3-0 start, including a dramatic win over rival Iowa, and has climbed into the top spot of some Big 12 power rankings. The new additions have made a significant impact as well. Both Utah and BYU are undefeated and have looked dominant in their early games. Utah's convincing road win against a Big Ten opponent, UCLA, and BYU's explosive offensive performance in its first few games signal that these teams are ready to compete at the top of the conference. Other teams like Texas Tech and UCF have also started the season strong, further complicating the championship race. The unpredictable nature of the conference makes for an exciting viewing experience. There is no easy week on the schedule, and any team, even one with an early-season loss, could still make a run for the conference title in December. The wide-open nature of the Big 12 championship race, with multiple teams having a realistic chance to win, proves just how deep and competitive the conference is in 2025.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYTee up that trip! Ep 1345NEW: Big 12 TITLE RUNS THROUGH UTAH, BYU... Unless Texas Tech, Iowa State Can Beat Big 10, PAC -12?
Based on their performances so far in the 2025 season, both BYU and Utah have shown they are legitimate forces in college football. While they come from different backgrounds—one a new Big 12 member and the other an established power—both have demonstrated a high level of talent and are off to a very good start. Utah's Dominance Utah, the new member of the Big 12, has been particularly impressive. They started their season with a statement win, a convincing 43-10 victory over UCLA on the road. This win was notable for a few reasons. First, it came against a traditional power and a team that is now in the Big Ten, which helps the Big 12's credibility. Second, the Utes showcased their trademark physicality on both sides of the ball. Their offense controlled the game with a powerful running attack and efficient passing, while their defense stifled UCLA, holding them to just 220 total yards. Utah followed up that performance with a 63-9 win over Cal Poly. This strong start demonstrates that the Utes, under long-time coach Kyle Whittingham, are poised to be a major contender in their new conference from day one. BYU's Explosive Start BYU has also looked exceptionally good in its opening games. They started their season with a record-setting performance, a 69-0 shutout victory over Portland State. The Cougars' offense was unstoppable, accumulating over 600 yards of total offense, including an incredible 468 on the ground. True freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier was electric in his debut, accounting for five touchdowns. BYU's defense was equally impressive, holding Portland State to negative total yards on the ground and just 51 yards overall. While the competition was an FCS team, the sheer dominance of the performance was a clear sign of the team's potential. They followed that up with a comfortable win over Stanford, cementing their place as a team to watch in the Big 12.Overall, both BYU and Utah have shown that they are very good at football and should be considered serious threats in the new, expanded Big 12 conference.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!5-Hour ENERGYTee up that trip! Ep 1344HAHAHA: Iowa State DOMINATES Iowa, Baylor EMBARRASSES SMU, Big 12 DOMINATES Big 10, ACC in Football!
In a classic, hard-fought Cy-Hawk rivalry game, Iowa State defeated Iowa 16-13 on Saturday at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. The win marks the first time since 2011 that the Cyclones have beaten the Hawkeyes at home, and their second consecutive victory in the series. The game lived up to its reputation as a defensive battle. Iowa State's defense was dominant for long stretches, holding Iowa to just 39 yards of total offense in the first half. The Cyclones were able to capitalize on an early interception, leading to a touchdown pass from quarterback Rocco Becht to tight end Benjamin Brahmer to go up 13-3. However, the Hawkeyes fought back. They put together a long, 17-play, 73-yard drive at the end of the first half, capped by a touchdown run from quarterback Mark Gronowski, to cut the lead to 13-10. The game was tied at 13-13 after a lengthy Iowa drive in the second half that resulted in a field goal. With the game on the line in the fourth quarter, Iowa State kicker Kyle Konrardy, who set a school record with a 63-yard field goal last week, was the hero. He connected on a clutch 54-yard field goal with less than two minutes remaining to give the Cyclones the 16-13 lead. Iowa's last-ditch effort was stifled by the Iowa State defense, as Gronowski was sacked twice, and the Hawkeyes turned the ball over on downs. The Cyclones then kneeled to secure the victory. Ep 1341BEST BETS: BYU Blows Out Stanford, Iowa State Shuts Out Iowa, Missouri Loses, SEC is Buried!
The Big 12 will cover in plenty of games this upcoming weekend in college football. BYU is set to face Stanford in what is shaping up to be a one-sided affair, with the Cougars having all the ingredients for a blowout victory. Stanford, under new head coach Frank Reich, is in a state of transition and has already shown significant vulnerabilities in their season-opening loss to Hawaii. Meanwhile, BYU is coming off a dominant 69-0 rout of Portland State, a performance that highlighted their strengths and a clear advantage in this upcoming matchup. The most significant factor in this game will be the battle in the trenches. BYU's offensive line, which is one of the most experienced in the Big 12, should have a field day against Stanford's defensive front. In their first game, the Cougars ran for 468 yards, a testament to their powerful ground game. This will be a stark contrast to Stanford, whose defense gave up a high number of rushing yards and struggled to generate pressure against Hawaii. Look for BYU to establish the run game early and often, wearing down the Cardinal's defense and opening up opportunities for their true freshman quarterback, Bear Bachmeier. On the other side of the ball, BYU’s defense is a major concern for Stanford. The Cougars' defensive unit is a proven commodity, having ranked highly in multiple defensive metrics last season. They are known for creating turnovers and will be eager to exploit a Stanford offense that looked out of sync in Week 0. Stanford's quarterback, Ben Gulbranson, struggled with accuracy and threw an interception in the opener, which could be a fatal weakness against a BYU defense that thrives on forcing mistakes. Ep 1340REPORT: Utah, Kansas LEAVING BIG 12, JOINING BIG 10 In New Expansion Bombshell is Likely By 2030
Maryland athletic director Damon Evans has commented on the future of the Big Ten, stating that further expansion is likely. This follows a period of significant conference realignment, which has left the Big Ten and SEC as the two dominant "superconferences." While Evans' comments are not an official announcement, they reflect a widely held belief among college athletic administrators that the current landscape is not yet final. The sentiment is that these two conferences will continue to grow and consolidate power, potentially reaching 20 members or more. Why Kansas and Utah are Likely CandidatesBoth Kansas and Utah are frequently mentioned as potential targets for the Big Ten, and for good reason. They possess key characteristics that align with the conference's expansion strategy.Kansas 🏀 Kansas is an extremely attractive candidate primarily due to its elite basketball program. The Jayhawks are a perennial powerhouse, which would further bolster the Big Ten's status as the nation's premier basketball conference. While its football program has historically been less successful, it has shown recent improvement under coach Lance Leipold. Beyond athletics, Kansas is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU), a key prerequisite for Big Ten membership. The university also offers a new media market, particularly in the Kansas City area, which is a valuable asset in securing future media rights deals.Utah 🏈 Utah, another recent conference change, is a prime candidate for different reasons. The Utes' football program has been a model of consistency and success under head coach Kyle Whittingham, a valuable trait for a football-centric conference like the Big Ten. Their recent dominant win over UCLA—a team now in the Big Ten—demonstrates their ability to compete at the highest level. Utah is also a member of the AAU, meeting the academic standards of the conference. Geographically, Utah would help bridge the gap between the Big Ten's Midwest core and its new West Coast members (USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington), creating a more logical travel footprint.Listener SurveyWe’ve put together a survey to learn more about our listeners and make your favorite podcasts even better. Ep 1339BIG 12 POWER RANKINGS: BYU Rises, Utah WAY Up, West Virginia Soars, Texas Tech Elite, Utah Top Team?
The Big 12 conference in 2025 is shaping up to be one of the most competitive and unpredictable in all of college football. The league’s expansion to 16 teams with the additions of Utah, BYU, Arizona, and Arizona State has created a new landscape defined by parity and a deep field of legitimate contenders. Preseason polls and odds reflect this, with multiple teams receiving first-place votes and several teams having a realistic chance at winning the conference title.Unlike other Power Four conferences that may have a clear favorite or a top tier of two or three teams, the Big 12 is a wide-open race. Last year's champion, Arizona State, came out of nowhere to win the title after being picked last in the preseason, and this year's race promises similar chaos. The transfer portal and NIL have played a major role, allowing many of the established programs to reload and new teams to quickly acquire talent, which has flattened the playing field. This season's competitiveness is a product of several factors. The conference's best teams have a mix of veteran talent and exciting new pieces. Utah, a new entrant from the Pac-12, brings its physical brand of football and a new, dynamic quarterback in Devon Dampier, and has already made a statement with a dominant win over UCLA. Texas Tech and Baylor are both seen as strong contenders, each with a seasoned quarterback and a host of playmakers. Kansas State, with its consistent coaching staff and returning star quarterback Avery Johnson, is also a favorite to contend for the championship. The sheer number of quality teams means that the conference schedule is a minefield. There are no easy weekends, and a team that loses a close game early in the season can easily rebound and still make a run for the conference title in December. This dynamic makes every single conference matchup critical and ensures that the race for the Big 12 championship will be one of the most exciting to watch throughout the fall.Listener SurveyWe’ve put together a survey to learn more about our listeners and make your favorite podcasts even better. Ep 1338RUDE AWAKENING: TCU BLOWS OUT Bill Belichick, North Carolina, ACC Gets STOMPED, Gary Patterson Joins
TCU made a resounding statement in their season opener on Monday night, dominating North Carolina with a decisive 48-14 victory in Chapel Hill. While North Carolina started strong with a touchdown on their opening drive, the game quickly became a one-sided affair as TCU's experienced offense and opportunistic defense took over. After that initial score, the TCU defense locked down the Tar Heels, who were debuting under new head coach Bill Belichick. North Carolina's offense struggled to find any rhythm, consistently failing to convert on third downs and turning the ball over. The Horned Frogs capitalized on this, with two of their touchdowns coming directly from defensive scores, including a crucial pick-six that changed the momentum of the game.TCU's offense, led by quarterback Josh Hoover, was efficient and explosive. They amassed nearly 500 yards of total offense, with a balanced attack that saw them gain 243 rushing yards and 284 passing yards. The Horned Frogs' ability to move the ball with ease and run up the score put immense pressure on a North Carolina team still adjusting to a new coaching staff and system. The lopsided final score not only spoils the highly-anticipated college coaching debut of Belichick but also signals that TCU is a force to be reckoned with in the Big 12 this year.Listener SurveyWe’ve put together a survey to learn more about our listeners and make your favorite podcasts even better. Ep 1337ANALYST: Utah Is NEW BIG 12 FAVORITE, BYU and Texas Tech Are Close, Iowa State LEGIT, Arizona State?
Utah's 43-10 victory over UCLA on August 30, 2025, was a dominant performance that showcased the Utes' strength on both sides of the ball. From the start, Utah’s offense had its way with the Bruins' defense. The Utes jumped out to an early 20-0 lead, which set the tone for the entire game. One of the key factors in Utah's dominance was their offensive efficiency and control of the clock. They finished the game with 492 total yards, including 286 on the ground and 206 through the air. The Utes were particularly impressive on third down, converting on 14 of 16 attempts, which allowed them to sustain long drives and keep the UCLA offense off the field. A prime example was their 20-play, 80-yard touchdown drive that consumed nearly 10 minutes of the third quarter, essentially sealing the game. The Utes' defense was equally commanding, suffocating UCLA's offense and holding them to just 220 total yards. They created constant pressure on UCLA's new quarterback, Nico Iamaleava, finishing with four sacks and an interception. The Bruins were held to only 84 rushing yards and struggled to convert on third downs, going just 2 for 11. Utah's defensive coordinator, Morgan Scalley, had his unit playing at a high level, and their ability to stop UCLA's drives and force quick punts was a major factor in the lopsided final score.Overall, the game was a statement win for Utah, as they controlled the tempo and dictated the terms of the game from start to finish, leaving no doubt about their superiority in the season opener.Listener SurveyWe’ve put together a survey to learn more about our listeners and make your favorite podcasts even better. Ep 1336HUGE WEEK: Utah BLOWS OUT Big 10 UCLA, BYU is ELITE, Texas Tech & Iowa State DOMINATE, Kansas State?
The 2025 college football season officially kicked off with a packed schedule on August 30, and the new-look Big 12 conference was a major part of the action.New conference member Utah, under coach Kyle Whittingham, began their campaign with a powerful statement, defeating UCLA 43-10 in Pasadena. The Utes' defense looked sharp, holding the Bruins' offense in check for much of the game, while their own offense, led by a balanced attack on the ground and through the air, consistently moved the ball. This road win against a familiar Pac-12 rival marks a significant first step for Utah in the new conference landscape.Another new Big 12 addition, BYU, had an explosive start to their season, routing Portland State 69-0. The Cougars' offense was unstoppable from the opening whistle, and their defense was equally impressive, pitching a shutout. This dominant performance provides a great deal of momentum for BYU as they navigate their new conference schedule. In Lubbock, Texas Tech’s high-powered offense was on full display in a 67-7 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Red Raiders scored early and often, putting the game out of reach by halftime and allowing their depth to get valuable game experience. The team's ability to put up such a large number of points so early in the season bodes well for their offensive identity moving forward.Meanwhile, Kansas State had a closer call, but still managed to come away with a 38-35 win against North Dakota. The Wildcats were tested by their opponent, but made key plays when it mattered most to secure the victory. Arizona State also started the season on the right foot with a 38-19 win over Northern Arizona. Their defense was solid, forcing turnovers and creating pressure, which helped their offense establish a comfortable lead. This slate of games shows a mix of dominant performances and hard-fought victories for the Big 12, setting the stage for an exciting season.Listener SurveyWe’ve put together a survey to learn more about our listeners and make your favorite podcasts even better. Ep 1335ELITE: BYU, Texas Tech, Iowa State SHOCK Big 12 With MASSIVE FCS Victories, TOOK CARE OF BUSINESS!
Week 1 of the 2025 college football season saw a trio of Big 12 teams—BYU, Texas Tech, and Iowa State—start their campaigns with overwhelming victories, showcasing offensive firepower against outmatched FCS opponents. The day was marked by record-setting performances and explosive plays, leaving little doubt about the outcomes from the opening quarters. In Provo, BYU delivered a historically dominant performance, annihilating Portland State 69-0. The win marked the largest shutout victory in the program's history. The offense was unstoppable, amassing an incredible 468 yards on the ground alone. The Cougars' attack was masterfully led by true freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier, who announced his arrival with a phenomenal debut, accounting for five total touchdowns—three passing and two rushing—all before halftime. Eight different players found the end zone for BYU, underscoring a comprehensive team effort that completely suffocated the Vikings, who were held to just 51 total yards of offense. Meanwhile, No. 23 Texas Tech asserted its will in Lubbock, cruising to a 67-7 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Red Raiders' offense, under the command of senior quarterback Behren Morton, exploded for a 47-0 lead by halftime. Morton was surgically efficient, throwing for 201 yards and four touchdowns before an injury scare saw him exit the game. The contest was interrupted by a 90-minute weather delay at the half, resulting in shortened quarters, but it did little to slow the Red Raiders' momentum as they confidently secured the season-opening win. In Ames, No. 22 Iowa State continued its strong start to the season, dispatching South Dakota 55-7. Coming off a "Week 0" victory in Ireland, the Cyclones showed no signs of fatigue. Quarterback Rocco Becht was nearly perfect, setting a school record for completion percentage by going 19-for-20 for 278 yards and three touchdowns. His precision guided an offense that scored with ease, putting the game well out of reach early on and allowing the Cyclones to move to 2-0 on the young season. Ep 1334ROBBED: Referees STEAL Baylor Win Over Auburn, Deion Sanders BAD Clock Management With Georgia Tech
The highly anticipated matchup between Baylor and Auburn proved to be a nail-biting season opener, with Auburn ultimately prevailing in a hard-fought contest. The game was a tale of two halves, marked by both strategic execution and, at times, inconsistent officiating that became a major talking point among fans. From a game analysis perspective, Auburn's victory was built on a dominant running game and a stout defensive front. Quarterback Jackson Arnold, despite some early jitters, showcased his dual-threat capabilities, proving to be a headache for the Baylor defense. Auburn's offensive line consistently won the battle in the trenches, allowing their running backs to control the clock and keep the chains moving. On the other side, Baylor's offense struggled to find its rhythm early, with quarterback Sawyer Robertson facing consistent pressure. While Robertson's arm talent was evident on several big plays, the Bears' offense as a whole lacked the offensive continuity that Auburn demonstrated. However, the game's narrative was significantly impacted by several officiating decisions. One of the most glaring issues was a missed facemask call on a critical fourth-down play, which could have given Baylor a first down and a fresh set of downs in scoring position. Additionally, there were multiple instances of questionable non-calls, including a lack of consistent holding penalties against Auburn's offensive line. These moments were not isolated; they contributed to a palpable sense of frustration from the Baylor sideline and the home crowd at McLane Stadium. While the officiating did not single-handedly decide the outcome, the inconsistency of the calls altered the flow of the game and added to the high-stakes drama. In the end, Auburn’s physical play and relentless ground attack were enough to overcome the Bears’ late-game surge.Listener SurveyWe’ve put together a survey to learn more about our listeners and make your favorite podcasts even better. Ep 1333EXPERT: Baylor Has HUGE SECRET to BLOW OUT Auburn, SEC Crumble to Big 12, Analytics HATE Hugh Freeze
Baylor enters this matchup with a significant advantage in two crucial areas: continuity and experience at the quarterback position. Head coach Dave Aranda's team finished the 2024 season on a six-game winning streak and returns a proven quarterback in Sawyer Robertson. Robertson, a breakout player last season, threw for over 3,000 yards and 28 touchdowns, and he's now a top returning quarterback with a strong offensive line and playmakers around him. This continuity in offensive leadership and scheme gives the Bears a stable and predictable foundation to build on. Conversely, Auburn is still seeking consistency at quarterback. While transfer Jackson Arnold is a talented player, he had an inconsistent year at his previous school and will be making his first start for the Tigers. This lack of experience in the system, combined with a new offensive coordinator, could lead to early-season struggles and a lack of chemistry that Baylor's seasoned offense can exploit. Furthermore, Baylor's defense, led by coordinator Dave Aranda, has been a major focus for improvement this offseason. While the defense struggled with metrics last season, the Bears have brought in several key transfers to bolster their defensive line and secondary. The defensive line is expected to be more physical and better at stopping the run, while the secondary, despite some injuries, has veteran players and an influx of new talent. While Auburn's receiving corps is elite, Baylor's defense will be far from a pushover, and the unpredictability of a new quarterback in a new offense could play right into Aranda's defensive strategy. In a high-stakes game where both teams need to prove themselves, Baylor's proven offensive leadership and a home-field advantage give them the edge to win a close contest. This week is a massive opportunity for the Big 12 to prove its strength on a national level, with a number of high-profile, non-conference matchups. These games are crucial for the conference's College Football Playoff aspirations, as a strong showing could give multiple teams a boost in their strength of schedule. The most notable games are:Cincinnati vs. Nebraska (in Kansas City): This is a huge neutral-site game and a chance for Cincinnati to make a statement against a rebuilding Big Ten program.Baylor vs. Auburn: A classic Big 12 vs. SEC matchup. A win for Baylor at home would be a massive resume booster.Colorado vs. Georgia Tech: Deion Sanders' team will have the national spotlight on them as they host an ACC opponent.TCU vs. UNC: The Horned Frogs head to Chapel Hill to face a UNC team with a new coaching staff and a chance to make an early-season statement.Key Quarterback Debuts: Several teams are debuting new quarterbacks or seeing new starters in their first full game. It's an opportunity for them to showcase their talent and prove they belong in the new-look conference. Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah will all be in action with non-conference games. This isn't just a week of football; it's a showcase for the depth and competitiveness of the new-look Big 12. Ep 1330ANALYST: Big 12 is WAY Better Than Big 10, Utah BLOWING OUT UCLA Is Easy, Nico Iamaleava Is TERRIBLE
Utah has a strong chance to blow out UCLA in their season opener due to a few key factors. First, the Utes have a historically strong defensive identity under head coach Kyle Whittingham, and that's not expected to change. While they lost some key players from last season, they still have a formidable defensive front and linebacking corps that can dominate the line of scrimmage. This will be a major problem for a UCLA offense that has been historically weak on the ground, ranking near the bottom of the FBS in rushing yards per game last season. If Utah's defense can stop the run, it will force UCLA's new quarterback, Nico Iamaleava, to beat them with his arm, which is a major risk for a first-time starter. 🏈Second, Utah's offense is expected to take a major leap forward under new offensive coordinator Jason Beck and quarterback Devon Dampier. Both were highly successful at New Mexico, where they had one of the nation's most explosive offenses. This new system, combined with a talented and experienced offensive line, gives Utah a huge advantage. They can now attack a UCLA defense that is replacing key pieces. While UCLA has a talented new quarterback in Nico Iamaleava, he is still unproven, and will be playing against a relentless Utah defense that thrives on creating pressure. The Utes' strong run game and improved passing attack should be more than enough to overwhelm the Bruins. Utah is favored in the game, and some advanced metrics models predict a comfortable win.Listener SurveyWe’ve put together a survey to learn more about our listeners and make your favorite podcasts even better. Ep 1329BAD: Big 12 is CANCELLING Yearly Rivalries Like BYU, Baylor and Iowa State, Kansas State but SEC...
The Big 12's decision not to make the Kansas State-Iowa State and Baylor-BYU games yearly rivalries has been a point of contention and discussion among fans and media. This choice is a direct result of the league's new scheduling model, which was implemented following the conference's expansion. "Farmageddon": A Storied Rivalry Lost The Kansas State-Iowa State football series, known as "Farmageddon," is one of college football's longest uninterrupted rivalries, with a history spanning over 100 consecutive games. However, under the new 16-team, non-divisional format, the Big 12 has opted for a rotating schedule with only a few protected rivalries. This means the continuous "Farmageddon" series, which was just played in Dublin, is set to end after the 2026 season. The decision has been met with frustration, particularly from fans of both schools, who argue that the conference is sacrificing a historic and commercially viable rivalry for a scheduling matrix that does not equally benefit all members. Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark has deferred to a committee's decision, stating that "certain things have to change moving forward." This move is seen as a way to prioritize a more balanced schedule for all 16 teams, ensuring that every program plays every other team in the conference on a regular basis. Baylor-BYU: A Budding Rivalry Stunted The Baylor-BYU series is a different case, as it's a newer, "budding" rivalry. The two teams have a number of similarities, including their private Christian university status and their strong fan bases. The matchup had begun to develop into a compelling annual game with a lot of on-field and cultural intrigue. However, the Big 12's scheduling model for 2024 through 2027 does not protect this matchup as a yearly rivalry. While there's a strong desire from some fans and analysts to see the series become an annual tradition, the conference's focus is on creating a balanced schedule where every team plays a wider variety of opponents. This model is designed to promote a new sense of identity and inclusion for the league's eight new members, even at the expense of developing newer rivalries. In essence, the Big 12's scheduling philosophy prioritizes competitive equity and broad exposure for all 16 teams over the preservation of certain traditional or developing rivalries. This has led to the unfortunate situation where matchups like "Farmageddon" will no longer be an annual fixture.Listener SurveyWe’ve put together a survey to learn more about our listeners and make your favorite podcasts even better. Ep 1328NEW Big 12 Power Rankings: BYU Slips, Iowa State Soars, Kansas State Down, Texas Tech Low, Baylor?
The 2025 Big 12 football season is widely considered to be one of the most unpredictable and stacked conferences in the nation, defined by its incredible parity and a lack of a single, dominant powerhouse. While it may not have a top-five juggernaut like the SEC or Big Ten, the depth of talent and the number of teams with a legitimate shot at the conference championship make it a must-watch league. The Contender Cluster Instead of one or two favorites, the Big 12 has a large cluster of contenders. Preseason rankings and expert picks show a high level of confidence in several teams. For example, some experts place Arizona State and Utah in the top 20 nationally, giving the Big 12 two teams with a strong chance to make a run at the College Football Playoff. Other teams consistently mentioned in the mix include Kansas State, Texas Tech, and Iowa State. Even programs like Baylor, BYU, TCU, and Kansas are seen as having the potential to compete for the championship. A New Era of Parity With the departure of Texas and Oklahoma, and the arrival of new teams from the Pac-12, the Big 12 has become a true free-for-all. The conference's new single-standings, non-divisional format ensures that the top two teams in the league will face off for the championship, making every conference game critical. The wide-open nature of the league is highlighted by the fact that the Big 12 has featured a new participant in its championship game in seven of the past eight seasons. Key Factors Contributing to the Depth Quarterback Play: Many teams return experienced and talented quarterbacks, a key ingredient for success in a competitive conference. Names like Avery Johnson (Kansas State), Rocco Becht (Iowa State), and Sam Leavitt (Arizona State) give their teams a chance to win every week. Transfer Portal Impact: Teams like Texas Tech have used the transfer portal and NIL to assemble what some are calling the most expensive roster in the country. This has allowed programs to rapidly improve their talent and close the gap on top contenders. Ep 1327STUNNED: Iowa State DOMINATES Kansas State In Ireland, Avery Johnson NOT the Answer? Rocco Becht Is?
In a rain-soaked and hard-fought battle in Dublin, Ireland, No. 22 Iowa State defeated No. 17 Kansas State with a final score of 24-21 to kick off the 2025 college football season. The game was a slugfest, characterized by sloppy play, key turnovers, and a dramatic finish. Key Takeaways Rocco Becht's Clutch Performance: While his overall stats (14-for-28, 183 yards) weren't spectacular, Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht was at his best when it mattered most. He threw two touchdown passes and ran for another, including a crucial 7-yard rushing score that put the Cyclones up 24-14 in the fourth quarter. His most important play, however, came on a 4th-and-3 late in the game, where he found running back Carson Hansen for a 15-yard gain to seal the victory. Kansas State's Offensive Struggles: The Wildcats' offense had a tough day, particularly in the first half. Quarterback Avery Johnson, while showcasing his dual-threat ability, struggled with consistency and was frequently forced to move out of the pocket due to pressure from the Iowa State defensive front. The Wildcats were plagued by turnovers on downs, and a reliance on big, explosive plays rather than sustained drives. Defensive Battle: Both defenses played well for much of the game, especially early on. The wet conditions in Dublin led to several fumbles and dropped passes for both teams. Kansas State's defense, in particular, looked strong in the first half, forcing two turnovers, but they were unable to get the critical stops needed in the fourth quarter. Coaching Decisions: The game came down to key coaching decisions in the final minutes. Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell's gutsy call to go for it on 4th down instead of kicking a field goal was rewarded with the game-sealing first down. Conversely, Kansas State's decision to go for it on 4th-and-1 in the fourth quarter from their own 30-yard line, which resulted in a turnover on downs, proved to be a critical turning point. The victory marks the third consecutive win for the Cyclones in the "Farmageddon" rivalry and gives them a crucial early-season conference win with potential implications for the Big 12 Championship race. Ep 1326FOOTBALL IS HERE: BOLD Kansas State, Iowa State Preview, Farmaggedon In Ireland Will Be CHAOS!
The annual "Farmageddon" rivalry between the Kansas State Wildcats and the Iowa State Cyclones is set to kick off the 2025 college football season in a historic neutral-site matchup in Dublin, Ireland. This Week 0 game is a crucial early test for both teams, who are looking to establish themselves as Big 12 Championship contenders. The game features a compelling quarterback duel between two returning starters. For Kansas State, the focus is on sophomore Avery Johnson, who takes the reins as the full-time starter after a promising 2024 season. Johnson is a dynamic threat with his arm and legs, and his continued development will be key to the Wildcats' offensive success. He will be joined by running back Dylan Edwards to form a potent backfield. The Wildcats' offense was ranked 31st in the FBS last season in total yards per game.On the other side, Iowa State brings back veteran quarterback Rocco Becht, who threw for over 3,500 yards and 25 touchdowns last year. While the Cyclones lost two key thousand-yard receivers, they'll lean on Becht's experience and the running game led by Carson Hansen. Iowa State's offense ranked 39th in the FBS in total offense last season. This game will be decided in the trenches and on the perimeter. Iowa State's defense, particularly its secondary, is a strong unit. They will look to challenge Johnson and the Kansas State passing game, which ranked 85th in the FBS last season. Conversely, Kansas State's defense, anchored by linebacker Austin Romaine, is strong against the run, which will be a crucial matchup against Iowa State's ground game. Both head coaches, Chris Klieman for Kansas State and Matt Campbell for Iowa State, have a history of developing tough, disciplined teams. The matchup in Dublin adds an extra layer of unpredictability, as both teams will have to deal with travel and a new environment.Predictions from computer models lean slightly in favor of Kansas State, but a close, low-scoring game is widely expected. With both teams' top quarterbacks returning, the game promises to be an exciting showcase of what promises to be a highly competitive Big 12 season.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Rugiet150,000 men have made the switch →https://Rugiet.com/LOCKEDONCOLLEGEUse code LOCKEDONNFL to get 15% off your order!DripDropRight now, DripDropis offering Locked On listeners 20% off your first order. Ep 1325BOMBSHELL: SEC CAVES to Big 12's Pressure, Changes to NINE Game Football Schedule, Greg Sankey DONE!
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has approved a move to a nine-game conference schedule starting in the 2026 football season. This decision, which was recommended by the league's athletic directors and approved by the presidents and chancellors, ends a long-standing debate and aligns the SEC with the Big Ten and Big 12. Key Elements of the New Format No Divisions: The SEC will continue with a single-standings, non-divisional structure. The top two teams in the standings will play in the SEC Championship Game.Three Permanent Opponents: Each school will play three annual opponents to preserve traditional rivalries. The remaining six games on each team's schedule will rotate among the other conference schools.Increased Rotational Play: This new format ensures that every SEC team will face every other conference program at least once every two years, and every opponent home and away within a four-year period.Non-Conference Requirement: In addition to the nine conference games, each SEC team will be required to schedule at least one high-quality non-conference opponent from the ACC, Big Ten, or Big 12 conferences, or Notre Dame. Reasons for the Change The shift to a nine-game schedule is a response to several factors, including:College Football Playoff (CFP) Emphasis on Strength of Schedule: The CFP selection committee has recently stated it will place a greater emphasis on strength of schedule when determining which teams make the 12-team field. The new format ensures that SEC teams have a more rigorous schedule, which could give them an edge in playoff selection.Competitive Balance: A nine-game schedule ensures more competitive matchups throughout the season. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey stated that this format "delivers the most competitive football schedule in the nation."Protecting Rivalries: By designating three permanent opponents, the league is aiming to protect historic rivalries that might have been lost in a fully rotating schedule.Increased Revenue: The new format will lead to more high-profile games, which can generate additional revenue for the conference and its member schools.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Rugiet150,000 men have made the switch →https://Rugiet.com/LOCKEDONCOLLEGEUse code LOCKEDONNFL to get 15% off your order!DripDropRight now, DripDropis offering Locked On listeners 20% off your first order. Ep 1323Locked On Big 12 is BYU Loving, West Virginia Hugging, Texas Tech Propaganda in STUPID Preseason Rankings
The accuracy of any sports predictions, especially in a conference as unpredictable as the Big 12, is a subject of constant debate. "Locked On Big 12," hosted by Drake C. Toll, is not exempt from this. Here’s a breakdown of how the podcast's predictions are generally viewed:In-Depth Analysis: The podcast is praised for its comprehensive coverage. Drake Toll and his guests analyze a wide range of factors, including coaching changes, returning starters, and the impact of the transfer portal and NIL. This thorough approach means that even if a prediction is wrong, the reasoning behind it is often well-argued and based on a deep understanding of the league. Willingness to Make Bold Predictions: The podcast is known for taking bold stances and making predictions that challenge the conventional wisdom of other media outlets. For example, he has made bold claims about teams like BYU and West Virginia, predicting they will exceed expectations. This style makes for compelling listening, but also means the predictions have a higher risk of being inaccurate. The Unpredictability of the Big 12: The Big 12 is known for its parity and chaos. Teams picked in the middle of the pack have often made it to the conference championship game. The Big 12 itself has even decided to discontinue its official preseason media poll due to the difficulty of accurate predictions. This inherent unpredictability makes it challenging for any analyst, including those on "Locked On Big 12," to be consistently right. In summary, "Locked On Big 12" is highly regarded for its deep analysis and passionate takes, but like all college football predictions, its accuracy is subject to the unpredictable nature of the sport and the Big 12 conference itself. Ep 1322FOOTBALL IS BACK: SEC is JEALOUS of Kansas State, Iowa State Kicking Off 2025 in Ireland THIS WEEK!
Get ready for a unique and high-stakes start to the college football season, as the Kansas State Wildcats and Iowa State Cyclones will face off in a highly anticipated Big 12 matchup to kick off their 2025 campaigns.Dubbed the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, this "Week 0" contest will take place on foreign soil at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, on Saturday, August 23, 2025. For fans in the Central time zone, the game will have an early start, with kickoff scheduled for 11 a.m. CT. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.This isn't just a novelty trip; it's a critical conference game between two programs expected to be contenders for the Big 12 title. Both teams enter the season with high expectations and are featured in preseason Top 25 rankings, with Kansas State typically ranked slightly higher around No. 17 and Iowa State near No. 22. What to Watch For Kansas State Wildcats: The Wildcats' success will largely hinge on the development of junior quarterback Avery Johnson. After a strong 2024 season where he set a school record with 25 touchdown passes, all eyes will be on his continued growth as a dual-threat playmaker. The offense also returns key weapons, including running back Dylan Edwards and a talented group of tight ends. The defense is expected to be solid, returning its top two tacklers from a year ago, linebacker Austin Romaine and safety VJ Payne.Iowa State Cyclones: The Cyclones will be led by their own standout junior quarterback, Rocco Becht, who threw for over 3,500 yards and 25 touchdowns last season. He'll be joined by junior running back Carson Hansen, who found the end zone 15 times in 2024. Coming off a season where they shared the regular-season Big 12 championship, Iowa State is looking to prove they are a consistent force in the conference. The Stakes Starting the season with a conference game, let alone one against a ranked rival, raises the stakes immensely. The winner will gain a significant early advantage in the Big 12 standings, while the loser will face an immediate uphill battle. Early betting lines have established Kansas State as a narrow 3-point favorite, signaling that a close, hard-fought game is expected on the international stage.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Rugiet150,000 men have made the switch →https://Rugiet.com/LOCKEDONCOLLEGEUse code LOCKEDONNFL to get 15% off your order!DripDropRight now, DripDropis offering Locked On listeners 20% off your first order. Ep 1321WHAT: With Bear Bachmeier Starting, ESPN Puts BYU, Kansas State in Big 12 Championship, Texas Tech?
Based on the On3 article, here is a more detailed summary of ESPN's updated Big 12 Football rankings for the 2025 season. The article, released just before the start of Week 0, outlines ESPN's latest projections for the Big 12 conference, which are based on the Football Power Index (FPI). The rankings have set the stage for the upcoming season, which kicks off with a key conference matchup between Kansas State and Iowa State in Dublin, Ireland. At the top of the list is Kansas State, holding the number one spot. The article highlights their strong position, noting the return of key offensive players, including quarterback Avery Johnson and running back Dylan Edwards. This continuity on offense is a major reason for their high ranking and the expectation that they will be a dominant force in the conference.BYU, coming off an impressive 11-2 season, is ranked second. Despite facing a new season with a new quarterback, the Cougars are expected to build on their previous success. This high ranking suggests that ESPN's FPI sees the program's overall strength as a significant factor, outweighing the uncertainty at the quarterback position. The reigning Big 12 champions, Arizona State, are ranked third. The team's strong performance in the previous season and their continued momentum have earned them a top spot, indicating that the FPI model projects them to maintain a similar level of success and compete for another conference title.Further down the list, other teams with promising outlooks are mentioned. Kansas, for instance, is hoping to have a much-improved season. Their chances are bolstered by the return of quarterback Jalon Daniels, who is expected to lead the team to a more successful campaign. Baylor is another team to watch, as they are expected to continue their positive trajectory under the leadership of head coach Dave Aranda. The article suggests that the coaching and program stability are key factors in their expected performance. The rankings also shine a light on other contenders within the conference, including Iowa State, Texas Tech, and TCU. While not in the top tier, these teams are considered notable and are expected to be competitive. The article provides a glimpse into the depth of the Big 12, showcasing that while there are clear favorites, many teams have the potential to make a run in the conference. The full list of rankings, from one to sixteen, underscores the competitive landscape of the Big 12 and the challenges each team will face throughout the season.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Rugiet150,000 men have made the switch →https://Rugiet.com/LOCKEDONCOLLEGEUse code LOCKEDONNFL to get 15% off your order!DripDropRight now, DripDropis offering Locked On listeners 20% off your first order. Ep 1320OFFICIAL 2025 Big 12 Standings Prediction: BYU in Title, Utah Up, West Virginia Stuns, Texas Tech?
The accuracy of preseason predictions, especially in a conference known for its parity like the Big 12, is a subject of constant debate among college football fans and media. While "Locked On Big 12," hosted by Drake Toll, provides thorough analysis, the nature of the Big 12 itself makes consistently accurate predictions a significant challenge. The Big 12 has long been characterized by its unpredictability. Unlike some other power conferences where a few perennial contenders typically rise to the top, the Big 12 often sees a different set of teams competing for the conference championship each year. For instance, in the past, a team ranked seventh in the preseason poll made it to the conference title game, while a team ranked fifth beat a team ranked seventh to win the championship a year earlier. This inherent chaos makes any preseason prediction, including those from Locked On Big 12, subject to a high degree of variance. The podcast, however, is praised for its in-depth coverage and willingness to take bold stances. Drake Toll and his guests analyze the conference from top to bottom, covering everything from the established powers to the new members. They consider factors like coaching changes, returning starters, and the impact of the transfer portal and NIL. While the final standings may not always align perfectly with their preseason rankings, the show's predictions are well-reasoned and based on a deep understanding of the league's dynamics.FanDuelToday's episode is brought to you by FanDuel. Ep 1318Texas Tech Just EXPOSED the SEC, BYU Has Starting Quarterback, Big 12 is RICH?
Texas Tech's recent recruiting success, fueled by significant NIL opportunities, has created a stir in the college football world, drawing particular frustration from fanbases in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), including Georgia. For years, the SEC has been the undisputed king of college football recruiting, often landing top prospects with relative ease. However, Texas Tech has successfully challenged this dominance, particularly by securing commitments from highly-rated recruits who were also heavily pursued by traditional powerhouses. Key Recruiting Wins and Fan Reactions Felix Ojo: Texas Tech's recruitment of five-star offensive lineman Felix Ojo, the top-ranked offensive tackle in the 2026 class, was a major statement. Ojo chose Texas Tech over programs like Texas and Ohio State. Reports indicated he received a lucrative multi-million dollar NIL deal, which many SEC fans cited as a sign that players were "chasing the money" rather than competing at the highest level.LaDamion Guyton: The Red Raiders' biggest recruiting coup came with the commitment of LaDamion Guyton, a five-star edge rusher and the top player in the state of Georgia for the 2027 class. Guyton's decision to spurn the in-state Bulldogs for Texas Tech sent shockwaves through the Georgia fanbase. This move, in particular, ignited a backlash from Georgia fans, who are unaccustomed to losing top local talent to a school outside the traditional "blue blood" sphere. The frustration was palpable on social media, with many Georgia fans expressing disbelief and some accusing Texas Tech of "buying" the commitment with a reported large NIL package. The New Landscape of Recruiting This shift is largely attributed to the rise of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals, which have created a more level playing field. Programs with strong alumni and booster support are now able to compete directly with traditional powerhouses. Texas Tech has been aggressive in this new era, leveraging its resources to become a top spender in the college football landscape. The success of Texas Tech's recruiting is seen by many as a signal that the SEC's long-standing recruiting dominance is being challenged. While SEC fans are accustomed to their conference being the premier destination for top talent, Texas Tech's ability to pull top-tier recruits from their backyard is a testament to the changing dynamics of college football and a source of considerable frustration for those who feel their programs are no longer entitled to every top prospect.FanDuelToday's episode is brought to you by FanDuel. Ep 1315AP Poll REALLY Does Hurt the Big 12: BYU, Utah, Baylor Left OUT of Rankings
The AP Poll's perceived neglect of the Big 12 is a common criticism, often stemming from the conference's smaller number of ranked teams compared to others like the SEC and Big Ten. This is particularly noticeable in preseason polls where voters often rely on historical reputation and "brand recognition" rather than recent on-field success or returning talent. 🏈 Preseason Poll Bias The preseason AP Poll frequently favors teams from historically dominant conferences, even if a Big 12 team had a better record or returning talent from the previous season. Voters may overlook the tangible success of certain Big 12 programs in favor of "helmet schools" with a bigger national profile. This can lead to situations where a Big 12 team that has a strong season and is a contender for the conference title is still left out of the initial rankings. The Big 12 itself has even taken a step to combat this by not conducting its own preseason media poll, citing that these polls can create a negative narrative that hurts the league.FanDuelToday's episode is brought to you by FanDuel. Ep 1314BOLD: West Virginia Will SHOCK College Football, Rich Rodriguez Leads Big 12 Championship-Level 2025
Morgantown is buzzing with a renewed sense of optimism as the West Virginia University football program heads into the 2025 season. The return of head coach Rich Rodriguez, coupled with a roster re-tooled with a blend of key returning talent and promising newcomers, has ignited hopes that the Mountaineers are on the cusp of a successful campaign.A primary driver of this optimism is the reappointment of Rich Rodriguez as head coach. Rodriguez, who led the Mountaineers to a period of unprecedented success from 2001 to 2007, brings a proven track record and an exciting, up-tempo offensive philosophy back to Milan Puskar Stadium. His familiarity with the program and the state is expected to galvanize the fanbase and instill a new level of energy and discipline within the team. Assisting him is a new coaching staff, including defensive coordinator Zac Alley, tasked with revitalizing a defense that showed flashes of potential in 2024.On the field, the Mountaineers will be led by a core of impactful returning players. The offense, while undergoing a significant transformation to fit Rodriguez's scheme, will benefit from the experience of several key contributors. The quarterback position will be a focal point, with a healthy competition expected to push the eventual starter to new heights. The real strength of the returning offensive players lies in the backfield and at the receiver positions. The running back room is deep and talented, providing a strong foundation for Rodriguez's ground-oriented attack. The receiving corps also boasts a number of players who have shown the ability to make big plays, offering the new quarterback reliable targets downfield.FanDuelToday's episode is brought to you by FanDuel.
